Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

  1. What does 2024 have in store for us? Who the heck knows. I will choose to care only about tomorrow. The day after tomorrow is a dead chicken problem. I’ll explain later.

    When I go looking for relevant stories and events to post here it sometimes seems overwhelming. Even more lately. There doesn’t seem to be an angle to view the planet where it looks like it did four years ago. Now we are dodging falling skies where ever we look. War, economics, southern borders, injection injuries, viral variants, CBDC master control, and on…

    Almost four years post pandemic and we have a malaise. It is characterized by a dearth of optimism. Where is it, because we can’t live without it.

    The human animal, because of its unique brain, exists in three time zones: it has memories, its functioning present, and its hopeful future. If its future time zone does not hold some modicum of hope the animal becomes depressed. Hope is to its future what water is to a watermelon.

    Hope is in our spirit to hydrate tomorrow into being something worth living for. For most of us this hydration system works generally well enough, staving off the paralyzing sense of despair or despondency that characterizes depression. How arid must be the desert vista to take all hope from a beating heart.

    Remedies are complicated. Since the plandemic, self-medication has skyrocketed. Rose-coloured glasses are the most superficial placebo. Drugs like prozac go deeper to try to mask or correct the condition. All come with a cost. None work for everyone. For some none work at all. Religious belief offers strength for many. Maybe we need Jesus more Jesus.

    Those with a properly-functioning tomorrow hydration mechanism (enter acronym THM precisely because I hate acronyms) will power through incredible hardships. The rest struggle day-to-day. Even describing the condition evinces the temporal.

    Depression seemingly evades or ignores many emotional precursors. What I mean is that it is at once thoroughly illogical and logical. We are all going to die some day, an understanding that is certainly grounds for the black dogs to emerge. Such awareness seems to affect smart people more than stupid people, yet somehow our THM generally sustains us, enabling us to tolerate this inevitability. Our emotions offer distraction from the mortality of our coil, including love, revenge, hate, duty, or for some of us the pursuit of beauty or money, which all are ambitious folly to the depressed, and hope for the happy.

    In extremis, is the death-row prisoner racked by depression, fear, or neither? Existential threats defined by the absence of tomorrow can still defy depression even though it should be the logical response. Somehow, though, we hang onto hope despite all odds. Or in this extreme example is the timeline of no real tomorrow so short that depression is not an option? Could it be that depression afflicts some people precisely because they cannot separate time from mortality long enough to enjoy a walk on the sunny side of the street? Time in this equation nags at me abstractly. Sadness comes naturally and occasionally with the misfortunes of living. It is ephemeral. Depression dances and dwells on an abyss that at once has little, and everything, to do with reality.

    When the Canadian truckers’ convoy became a thing I remember the euphoria that was released like worldwide wildfire. People felt a great sense of relief and optimism. The huge weight that suddenly dropped away was most surprising because people were not fully cognizant of this weight they carried until it fell. This release was a sort of inverse of what Desmet used to explain untethered anxiety in the context of hate, and how it had been constructed by the state to enable otherwise normal people to commit crimes against humanity. In the truckers we found another object on which to anchor untethered anxiety, and that was a return to hope for the freedom we felt had diminished under lockdowns. Either way dear Comintern take note: untethered anxiety is a fire that can fan both ways. I hope 2024 sees this happen again.

    If only we, in all our wondrous technological advancements, could capture hope. Distill it, isolate it, hold it, quantify it, own it, suck it through a straw. Unfortunately, it just doesn’t seem to work that way without bottled endorphins. We must come by it the old fashioned way–through the crude process of living every day, with all its inglorious drudgery and small rewards. Some of us feel like gold miners sifting through a ton of rock for a single lousy gram of the stuff. Others bounce along rich with bright tomorrows, spreading sunshine along their gay way. Gay. Gay. (Note to self: another falling sky about the commie dialectical hijacking of language.) And therein lies the rub. Maybe depression is a form of imbalanced greed for too much life. A buried exuberance. –An unrealistic expectation, or even conversely a very realistic understanding that we can never be fulfilled, and it only abates once we are satisfied by what we have, once we have come to terms, once we find a way to stop it from feeding itself. I don’t know. One thing it tells me is that all the little good things in life really do add up to something.

    I remember years ago reading about Hungary having the highest suicide rate in the world. Hungary under communism had a highly educated population. This caged people was deprived of hope for all of its intellectual energy and potential. But what about the other communist countries? They, too, had well-educated people in similarly dire straights. Why was there not more competition for the same dubious statistic? I don’t know the answer to this except to say perhaps there is something in the gloomy Magyar character.

    A friend of mine became a doctor back in the 80s. As a young coroner he was called out at all hours by Budapest police to provide a cause of death for unfortunate souls. One time they picked him up at 3 a.m. and drove him downtown. He got out of the car and stood on the wide sidewalk with the officers, watching them stand and smoke in silence for a long time. Finally he asked where was the body? One of them answered, “Look up.” There, impaled on a tree branch was a man who had jumped off the roof of a building. “Now, doctor,” asked the cop with a smirk on his face, “what was the cause of death?” I guess in some circumstances dark humour is better than no humour at all. I also guess comedians are born in darkness.

    Yet they survive to this day, against all odds, through countless wars and hardships as a people and nation for over a thousand years. Or how about the Jews? Many more thousands of years and counting despite their somewhat neurotic disposition brought on by genetically-high intelligence, yet managing, still, to spit in the face of annihilation.

    Feeling depressed? Be forced to fight or run for your life and see how long that little miasma lasts. There’s no time for it. Yes, it may return, but it got you through the day, didn’t it? This tells me that if one survives a THM deficit at some point in one’s life there is a self-healing mechanism at work, honed to toughness or resilience. In lucky cases it acts as a lifelong immunization. Toughness and depression may not be brother and sister, but they are definitely cousins given their shared all-or-nothing attitude towards life. I wonder if it has some hidden merit in the evolutionary scheme of things, other than population control. It must, because I don’t see evolution wasting millions of years on a single use application.

    Now about those chickens. I recently overheard a conversation between two roosters. I was down at the farm minding my own business, pretending like I wasn’t listening. Ginsberg is a handsome Rhode Island Red in therapy. His therapist, old Dr. Molnar, is trying his clucking best to help the young lad:

    “I just don’t get it,” says Ginsberg. “Why should I have to cross the friggin’ road? My friend, Eddy, says cross the road, Ginsberg. What’s wrong with you, Ginsberg. Everyone crosses the fucking road except you, Ginsberg.”
    “Vaat do you expect?” the doctor says. His accent is thick. “Ev-ery von must cross zee road.”
    “See? You’re just like all the rest. You’re trapped in this stupid-crazy paradigm. Why can’t you step outside your box for one second? Just one second.”
    “Haff you consid-ared zee possibility zatt it iss you who iss out of zee box?”
    “Absolutely I have. I consider it every single time I watch one of my friends or family members get run over by a car crossing the road. I mean splat! Just fucking splat!”
    “I see. Of course. It iss perfectly logical, zen, to be averse to such an event.”
    “Well, there you go. It is, isn’t it.”
    “Yes, except do you not consider zee peril if you do not cross zee road?”
    “What do you mean? Do I consider the peril in avoiding an existential threat?”
    “Yes. Zee peril iss to be left behind in a place vhere you are completely alone, and life ass you know it ceases to exist. You are making zee mistake of zee slipp-ery slope fallacy. Yes, ev-ery time vee cross any road vee are at risk. But vee must not amass ev-ery single low-risk venture into zee unrealistic doom of all future crossings aggregated together.”

    Ginsberg lit another cigarette. This chicken crossing the road bullshit had driven him crazy since he could remember. Some joke, he thought. Ha-ha. “Ok, doc, so I cross the road and survive. Big deal. There’s another road the next day and the day after that. Sooner or later your number comes up. It’s depressing.”
    “Precisely! Oh, may I haff von uff zose–.”
    “–You want a smoke? Here–.” Ginsberg handed the doctor one of his cigarettes and lit it.
    “Yes, precisely, but you do it again,” the doctor continued. “So I vill say it vunce more so you completely understand.You are self-defeating by joining togezzer zee astronomical odds against survival zhat dooms us in a chaotic univerzum. Hope aggregates zee positive, depression zee negatiff. You must stop aggregating all zee negatives of all zee days ahead. Immediately.”
    “Right. So what’s on the other side of the road that’s so great it’s worth risking everything for?”
    “Chickens. Luff. Life. Your friends and family. Tomorrow. Unknown joys. Ev-ery day iss a risk. Iff you get to tomorrow, it logically means there iss another tomorrow to follow, no? Do not vorry so much about zee day after tomorrow. Zen I promise your mental state vill improof considerably.”
    “So one road at a time.”
    “Yes. It iss difficult at first, but becomes easier viss practice. Similar to muscle memory.”

    I’m left with lingering dissatisfaction with what I’ve written. I’ve gambled and lost, entering into this idea hoping to find some profound, helpful punchline. Distilling this affliction into something as trite as a why-did-the-chicken-cross-the-road joke offers little or nothing to those stricken, so in defeat I end with this:

    “He was so depressed, he tried to commit suicide by inhaling next to an Armenian.”

      On January 1, 2024, two hundred thirty-one current and former service members from various branches of the United States Armed Forces came together to sign the “Declaration of Military Accountability.”

      This document, spearheaded by Commander Robert A. Green Jr. of the U.S. Navy, marks a significant moment in military history, calling for sweeping reforms and accountability within the Armed Forces.

      Veteran Brad Miller wrote on X, “At 4 am EST today (a few min ago), senior military leaders received an email with a letter attached called the Declaration of Military Accountability. I know because I sent the email. I sent it on behalf of myself & 230 other signatories of the letter.”

      “The letter is not addressed to the military leaders but rather to the American people. The email was merely to inform these military leaders that there is group of troops & vets pledging to the American public that we will do everything lawfully within our power to stop the willful destruction of our military by its own leadership. Let’s take our country back in 2024 & let’s begin by defending our military from its own leadership. You can find the body of the letter below. Soon we’ll have it on a website where you can find it as well, along with the names of the 231 signatories.

      “The signatories, in their open letter to the American public, emphasize the importance of moral and religious foundations as articulated by Second U.S. President John Adams, stressing that the Constitution is designed for a society grounded in these values,” he added.

      The letter reads in part:

      The flag and general officers are far from the only ones complicit in recent illegal activities, as a significant number of SES leaders and political appointees contributed. Evidence indicates that other executive agencies are engaging in illegal activity. However, as service members and veterans, we feel particularly responsible for the DoD and, in accordance with our oaths, we will make every effort to demonstrate by example, how an institution can put its own house in order.

      We the undersigned, on behalf of hundreds of thousands of service members and the American people, while appealing to the Supreme Judge of the world for guidance and purity of intention, mutually pledge to each other that we will do everything in our power, through lawful word and action, to hold accountable military.

      The declaration outlines grave concerns about the current state of the nation, highlighting “avaricious corruption” and failures within key institutions, including the Department of Defense.

      A significant portion of the declaration criticizes the implementation of the COVID-19 vaccine mandate within the military. The authors accuse military leaders of ‘breaking laws, trampling constitutional rights, denying informed consent, permitting unwilling medical experimentation, and suppressing the free exercise of religion.’

      In January 2022, Italian police raided the homes of 18 suspects in connection with a series of sexual assaults that occurred on New Year’s Eve in Milan. The suspects are described as illegal immigrants or Italians of North-African origin.

      The attacks took place in Milan’s Piazza del Duomo, in front of Milan’s Cathedral, during celebrations. Nine women have come forward to say they were assaulted by groups of young men during the festivities. Police believe there may be more victims.

      Police said they had identified 15 young men and three boys, aged 15 to 21, who were the targets of today’s raids in the northern cities of Milan and Turin.

    While Americans shopped, slept and partied in the final hours of 2023, Joe Biden brought the country and the world one big step closer to World War III with Russia.

    As reported at MSN, Biden now admits the United States is at risk of “direct conflict” with Russia “if the Kremlin succeeds in its war in Ukraine.”

    I guess he didn’t think anyone was paying attention to him and his war games.

    All News Pipeline notes that Biden is: “Basically telling us that if Russia wins the war against Ukraine, which is looking more and more likely every day, it’ll soon be the woke and broke US military going toe to toe against the Russian military, and all of the death and destruction that would bring the world with it, Biden didn’t bother to mention in those recent remarks the probability that such a conflict will end up bringing with it nuclear bombs exploding all across America.”

    Does Biden think Vladimir Putin, who sits on the world’s largest nuclear arsenal, is just going to sit back and watch the U.S. invade his country and topple its government?

    Putin previously promised there is no such thing as the US “winning” a war against an enemy (Ukraine) set to completely destroy Russia, even if Russia’s leadership is “all dead and gone.”

  7. M7.6 quake rocks central Japan, triggers major tsunami alert and fire

    An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 rocked a wide area on the Sea of Japan coast Monday, triggering a major tsunami alert and fire in the central prefecture of Ishikawa, with at least two people feared dead and crimping the festive mood of New Year celebrations nationwide.

    The tsunami warning was issued for the Noto Peninsula in the prefecture before being downgraded hours later. It was the first time such a major warning had been issued since the 2011 magnitude-9.0 earthquake and tsunami that devastated northeastern Japan areas and triggered the Fukushima nuclear crisis.

    The quake, which also shook buildings in central Tokyo, occurred around 4:10 p.m., registering a maximum 7 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale on the peninsula, the Japan Meteorological Agency said. A tsunami measuring 1.2 meters or higher reached Wajima Port in the region.

  9. 4 Chinese Vessels Spotted Near Senkaku Islands, Totaling Record 352 Days Entering Contiguous Zone in 2023

    Four China Coast Guard (CCG) vessels were spotted sailing in the contiguous zone (approximately 22 km outside territorial waters) off the coast of Minami-Kojima Island and Taishojima Island in the Senkaku Islands, Okinawa Prefecture, on Sunday morning, according to the 11th Regional Coast Guard Headquarters in Naha.

    This is the 352nd day this year that CCG vessels have been spotted in the contiguous zone, setting a new record for annual incursions since the Senkaku Islands were nationalized in 2012. It is an increase of 16 days over the previous record of 336 days in 2022.

    Former President Bill Clinton will be identified as “John Doe 36” in a trove of court documents related to late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein which are expected to be released this week, according to a report.

    Clinton, 77, is mentioned more than 50 times across redacted documents related to a 2015 lawsuit from Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre, according to ABC News.

    Many of the references to Clinton are believed to stem from Giuffre’s attempts to compel the former president to testify against the late sex offender and his former paramour and co-conspirator, Ghislaine Maxwell.

    Other Clinton mentions are expected to be related to attempts from both Maxwell and Giuffre to make Epstein come clean in 2016 after he repeatedly invoked his Fifth Amendment rights during a deposition in that lawsuit.

    The documents are not expected to implicate Clinton in any illegal activity, ABC reported.

    The names of more than 170 people — known only as John and Jane Does previously — with ties to Epstein are expected to be revealed in the documents after Manhattan federal Judge Loretta Preska ruled just before Christmas they would be unsealed in the new year.

    Regional instability risks mount in the Red Sea following the Iran-backed Houthi attack on a Maersk container ship on Sunday. US Forces responded with attack helicopters that eliminated three small boats and ten rebels.

    After the skirmish, a spokesperson for the Yemeni militia group warned of “consequences and repercussions” for the US aggression.

    Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea confirmed on the Yemeni TV channel Al-Masirah that US forces killed ten of its fighters.

    “US enemy forces attacked three boats belonging to the Yemeni Naval Forces, which led to the martyrdom and the loss of ten people from the Naval Forces,” Sarea said.

    The spokesman said its fighters were “performing their humanitarian and moral duty” to deter Israel-related commercial vessels from transiting the Red Sea “in solidarity and support for the Palestinian people

    Perhaps even more problematically from a global escalation perspective, Iran dispatched a warship to the Red Sea.

    The Alborz destroyer traversed the Bab El-Mandeb strait, a narrow choke point between the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, on Monday, Iranian state media said, adding that Iran’s naval fleet has been operating in the area “to secure shipping lanes, repel pirates, among other purposes since 2009.”

    The move appears to represent a clear challenge to the US-led maritime security force established last month to protect ships from attack in the region.

    Earlier in the day, US Central Command (CENTCOM) reported it received a distress call from a Singapore-flagged Maersk container ship named “Hangzhou.”

    Tehran announced Monday it has sent a warship into the increasingly contested waters of the Red Sea as navies from other nations work to stem attacks from Iran-backed Houthi terrorists.

    The semi-official Tasnim news agency reported Iran’s frigate Alborz, launched in 1969 on completion by Vickers in the UK, will fly the country’s flag across the key shipping lanes.

    In its report, Tasnim did not specify the details of the Alborz’s mission but highlighted what it claimed were the regional implications of Israel’s war against Hamas terrorists in Gaza.

    “Following rising tensions in the Gaza war, there has been an acceleration in developments in the Gulf of Aden and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait,” it said, repeating words of action long pronounced by Tehran in its war with the west.

    On Sunday, U.S. Navy helicopters sank three Houthi-operated vessels that had attacked a container ship in the Red Sea, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement, as Breitbart News reported.

    The UK defense minister warned on Monday that London is “willing to take direct action” against the Houthis.

    “We are willing to take direct action, and we won’t hesitate to take further action to deter threats to freedom of navigation in the Red Sea,” Defense Secretary Grant Shapps wrote in the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

    According to the outlet, Britain is collaborating with the U.S. for potential military strikes against the Houthis, and that a joint statement giving the militants a final warning to cease their attacks is imminent.

    Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthis have been targeting vessels in the Red Sea since November to show their support for the Palestinian Islamist terrorist group Hamas in its war with Israel.

    In response, many major shipping companies have switched to longer and more costly routes which avoid the area altogether.

    A deadly, fiery crash that occurred outside an entertainment venue in upstate New York early New Year’s Day is being investigated as possible terrorism, a law enforcement source briefed on the case told ABC News.

    Two people were killed and five others injured after a Ford Expedition struck a Mitsubishi Outlander that was exiting a parking lot near the Kodak Center in Rochester, according to the city’s police chief, David Smith.

    The collision occurred around 12:50 a.m. on Monday near a crosswalk, as concertgoers were leaving the venue, Smith said.

    “The force of the collision caused the two vehicles to go through a group of pedestrians that were in the crosswalk, and then into two other vehicles,” Smith said at a press briefing on Monday. “There was a large fire associated with the crash that took the Rochester Fire Department almost one hour to extinguish.”

    Two occupants of the Mitsubishi Outlander were killed and the driver was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the chief said. The driver of the Ford Expedition was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, he said.

    Three pedestrians struck in the crash were transported to a local hospital — one in life-threatening condition and two with non-life-threatening injuries, Smith said.

    No additional details on the victims have been released.

    The question of presidential eligibility under the Constitution has been a hot button one, especially in recent years with the controversial campaigns of John McCain, Barack Obama, Ted Cruz, and most recently, Kamala Harris. The controversy arises from the text of the Constitution itself. Article II, Section 1, stipulates that “No person except a natural born citizen or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President.” The core issue centers on the meaning of the phrase “natural born citizen.” The Constitution explicitly lays out three requirements to run for president: (i) be at least 35 years old; (ii) have been a resident of the United States for at least 14 years; and (iii) be a natural-born citizen of the United States.

    The question of natural born citizenship is crystal clear, though it often gets confused with the more controversial debate surrounding birthright citizenship. From the outset, it should be stressed that the two are entirely different constitutional issues. The question of natural-born citizenship as an eligibility requirement for president is well settled, whereas the issue of birthright citizenship is still up in the air.

    There is a reason the Founding Fathers attached the requirement of being a “natural born citizen” to the President (and, with the passage of the Twelfth Amendment, the Vice President) only and no other federal offices. The idea was to elevate the threshold for the highest elected political office of the land; notably, that language is absent in Article I, which stipulates that lawmakers running for the House or Senate need only be “citizens” to qualify. The early debates surrounding the passage of the Constitution add support for the view that the Framers wanted to exclude “the admission of foreigners into the administration of our national government,” as John Jay wrote to George Washington in July of 1787.

    A central concern for the architects of the nascent American republic was that only the most qualified statesmen be eligible for the country’s highest office. In his Commentaries, Joseph Story elaborated that “[i]t is indispensable… that the president should be a natural born citizen of the United States… [T]he general propriety of the exclusion of foreigners, in common cases, will scarcely be doubted by any sound statesman.” Joseph Story, who enjoyed over a thirty-year reign as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, famously elaborated the principles of the republicanism of Alexander Hamilton and John Marshall well into the mid-nineteenth century. His Commentaries specifically distinguished between natural born and naturalized citizens, the latter of whom were ineligible to run for president, despite qualifying for the privileges of citizenship. This view is supported by the best legal commentary of the day, Emmerich de Vattel’s Law of Nature and of Nations, a contemporaneous authority for the Founding Fathers on questions of citizenship. de Vattel’s work states that “[t]he natives, or natural-born citizens, are those born in the country, of parents who are citizens.” The question of natural born citizenship is ergo fundamentally distinct from the ongoing issue of birthright citizenship, raised in the Fourteenth Amendment, which confers citizenship to “[a]ll persons born or naturalized in the United States.” The key word here is citizenship, not eligibility for the presidential office, which, as noted earlier, demands a much higher threshold for qualification.

    Modern legal scholars have further elaborated on the meaning of the Presidential Eligibility Clause. For example, in a 2008 article published by the Michigan Law Review, Law Professor Lawrence Solum argued that the generally agreed-upon meaning of the relevant article was that “anyone born on American soil whose parents are citizens of the United States is a ‘natural born citizen’.”

    John Eastman has also raised the issue of natural born citizenship in the related context of Kamala Harris’ eligibility to serve as Vice President. In a 2020 Newsweek article, Eastman argued that Harris would only qualify as a constitutionally eligible natural-born citizen if her parents were “lawful permanent residents at the time of her birth.” However, in the case of Harris, if her parents were “merely temporary visitors,” then she patently did not qualify as a natural-born citizen pursuant to Article II, Section 1. The logic of Eastman’s argument is straightforward, and I would maintain does not even need to implicate the Fourteenth Amendment or the outstanding question of birthright citizenship, which might otherwise detract from the fundamental soundness of the constitutional issue.

    It makes sense that the constitutional Framers did not license the presidency to anyone born on U.S. soil. The specific requirement of natural-born citizenship, which is absent for both members of Congress and the judiciary, was intended to raise the threshold for presidential officeholders in particular. In Nikki Haley’s case, it is well documented that neither one of her parents were citizens, natural born or naturalized, at the time of her birth in 1972. It has been previously reported that a South Carolina-based newspaper included a quote from the Office of Nikki Haley, stating that “her parents were not U.S. citizens at the time of her birth in 1972 and did not become citizens until 1978 and 2003.” Thus, although the parents may have been lawful residents at the time of her birth on South Carolina soil, which may or may not confer her with the privileges of citizenship, it is important to note that she does not qualify for the Constitution’s higher requirement of natural-born citizenship.

    In addition, the Twelfth Amendment states that “no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.” In short, because Haley is ineligible to serve as president, having not satisfied the Presidential Eligibility Clause, she also cannot serve as vice president. Now, the vast majority of legal scholarship offering an opinion to the contrary will cite the seminal Supreme Court decision, Wong Kim Ark. The relevant issue there, however, was not whether someone whose natural born citizenship was in question might serve in the highest office of the land, but rather whether such a person was entitled to the bare minimums of American citizenship. Thus, the legal issues are completely different. The Court in Wong Kim Ark decided whether citizenship might be conferred upon an individual born on American soil to non-citizen parents. Importantly, in Wong Kim Ark, nowhere does the Court ever state that natural-born citizens are synonymous with citizens. While numerous equivalences are made between “natural-born” citizens (or “subjects;” the terms are used interchangeably throughout, even though there is a relevant legal distinction) and citizens, the Court notably took pains to distinguish between the two categories, merely analogizing the two for the purposes of ultimately arguing in favor of birthright citizenship. Regardless of the ultimate legitimacy of the decision, which many constitutional scholars have contested over the intervening years, the important takeaway is that even in Wong Kim Ark, the supposed authority in favor of Haley’s eligibility to run for president, the Court never asserted that birthright citizenship would hereinafter absorb and eradicate the distinct category of “natural-born” citizenship.

    It may well be argued that the reason the Court in Wong Kim Ark upheld that distinction was that it contemplated future cases like Nikki Haley’s, where a non-natural-born citizen might ask not merely for the bare minimum rights of citizenship but additional rights, namely the right to be eligible to run for president, which runs afoul of both the textual prerogative and original meaning of the Constitution itself. The logic of this is intuitive: the bare necessities of American citizenship, consistent with the principles of natural right, do not entail that additional rights must be conferred on that basis alone. Nature, in other words, does not automatically confer one with the presidential office nor the bare minimum duties, such as age and time residing in the country, requirements that the Framers wrote into the Presidential Eligibility Clause.

    The Framers had a robust understanding of natural right. They fiercely upheld the view that duties must be imposed on the body politic in general and certain outstanding statesmen in particular in order to meet the higher demands of elected office that would, in turn, perpetuate the original social contract for posterity. To the extent that model has broken down in modern times, it is because of flagrant violations lawmakers, like Nikki Haley and Kamala Harris, have committed in the subsequent centuries against the Constitution’s intended meaning over the years. This has gradually whittled the Framers’ once robust tapestry down to the bone, producing a crisis whereby persons, with no historical awareness nor reverence for the Constitution’s meaning or purpose, openly defy its conditions willy-nilly, out of personal vanity or even resentment. Nikki Haley’s flagrant defiance of the Constitution’s textual prerogative, if allowed to continue, will further erode what remnants of that original tapestry still survive, thrusting all that remains of the Framers’ now-enervated handiwork into inexorably aimless waters.

    IDF Document Warns the Next Major Attack Will Come from Jordan and Syria

    Using only known sources, the document details the deployment of Iran’s forces in Syria and raises the concern that the Jordanian army is also preparing to attack from the east.

    The authors of the document suggest that just as the pre-October 7 notion that Hamas was deterred in Gaza, so is the notion that Assad will prevent Iran from opening another front from his territory is unfounded.
