Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

Updated: Israel Votes 2022: Highest Turnout in Decades!

As of 10 AM on Tuesday, some 1,760,076 people, or 15.9% of eligible voters, had cast a ballot in elections for the 25th Knesset, according to Israeli Central Elections Committee (CEC) CEO Orly Ades.

The 10 AM turnout is the highest since 1981, surpassing the 14.8% figure set during the last election, in March 2021. By 12 PM, that percentage reached 28.4%. The highest percentage in 23 years… At 6 PM, voter turnout was 57.7% with 3,919,367 votes. This continues to be the highest turnout since 1999…

The high turnout reflects the electorate’s trust in the Jewish state’s democratic system, said Israeli President Isaac Herzog {spit} during a visit to the CEC at the Knesset.

It may also represent how serious those on the Left and the Right are taking this election for control over the future of the country.

    • Nov. 2:
      A Seismic Shift is Coming

King Solomon said, “A wise man’s mind (tends) to his right; while a fool’s mind (tends) to his left.”

The world is about to experience a seismic political shift from the left to the right. It all starts on Nov. 1 when Israel holds its fifth election in four years. Current polls give Benjamin Netanyahu the highest number of seats in the Knesset. However, it remains to be seen if he will be able to cobble together a governing coalition of 61 seats…. YES ! He did it !

The past year-and-a-half since Netanyahu was ousted has been relatively chaotic. I wish it weren’t so. But we have a very objective eye over here in America. It certainly seems as if Israel was much better off with Netanyahu at the helm.

Seven days after the Israeli election, America has a chance to right the ship. I believe it will….

It appears that Republican candidates across America are peaking just as voting begins in earnest. Senator Chuck Schumer’s statement to President Joe Biden that “we’re going downhill,” which was caught on a “hot mic,” seems to be prophetic.

Midterm elections tend to be problematic in general for the party in the White House. I remember well the midterm elections of 2014 when former President Barack Obama occupied the West Wing. The Republicans won Congress with 247 seats. That hadn’t happened since 1928. They also took over the Senate by flipping seven seats. We could see a similar “red wave” in 2022.

If this indeed happens, and all indications are that it could, the reconfiguration of the political landscape around the globe will have been dramatic and telling. The rise of crime and a failing economy will have done it in America. The rise of terrorism and lack of leadership will have done it in Israel. The American citizen and the Israeli voter will both follow the wisest of all men, King Solomon, and the world will be a better place.

    • Mansour Abbas Makes Desperate Plea for More Arab Voter Turnout, Accuses Right-Wing of Wanting to ‘Deport’ Arabs

A desperate leader of the Arab Ra’am Party (the United Arab List) – Muslim Bros. – Mansour Abbas begged Arab Israelis on election night to come out and vote. His words came as reports indicate a meager voting rate among Israeli Arabs against an overall national voting rate higher than in recent elections.

Speaking to his supporters, and to all Israeli Arabs, Abbas said, “400 thousand Arabs voted while 600 thousand stayed at home. This is just about the lowest Arab turnout in 20 years compared to the highest Jewish turnout in 20 years.”

“I urge you all to get out and vote,” he added.

But that was not all. In an attempt to stir up his base, Abbas also alluded to what Israel’s Arab communities can expect, in his opinion, should there be a new right-wing government in Israel that includes the right-wing Religious Zionism Party led by Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir. The 2 have called Ra’am a party that supports terrorism and Abbas said that they wish to force Israeli Arabs out of the country.

On that sentiment, to Israel’s Arabs, he exclaimed, “will we allow Smotrich and Ben- Gvir to deport us by ship?”

These comments came after earlier in the day Mansour Abbas accused his rival Arab party Hadash-Ta’al of “stealing” his party’s votes in Tuesday’s Knesset elections. In an exclusive interview he told TPS, “He who wanted to save Hadash-Ta’al is endangering the very existence of Ra’am.”

    • Herzog Calms Biden Administration Fear Over Possible Netanyahu Election Win

Officials in the Biden Administration expressed concern this week over the possibility that next month’s Israeli election could see Opposition leader and former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu return to office.…

Both Israeli and US officials said White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Secretary of State Antony Blinken expressed the administrations concerns to Israeli President Isaac Herzog - {spit} - this week during his meetings at the White House.

Herzog told the officials, however, that it is too early to know which faction will end up leading the country and urged the Biden administration to ‘let democracy do its thing.’

“Every country has problems in its political system. You experience this here in the US too,” Herzog said…

      • And Netanyahu is well aware of Blinken’s State Department folks and their shenanigans. Pretty boy Zelensky won’t be able to play his money and weapon games either. The pendulum is swinging.

    • US Jewish leaders express quiet CONCERN about potential rise of Israeli far-right

CHICAGO (JTA) – It was 6 p.m. Monday night and the hallway of the Chicago hotel was suddenly filled with Israelis navigating suitcases through a throng of American Jews debating what to eat for dinner.

They were headed to the airport for the last flight to Israel that would allow them to vote in Tuesday’s election there, the fifth in less than four years. Israel does not allow absentee voting, except for people living abroad on behalf of the government, and despite their election fatigue, they didn’t want to sit out a contest that could dramatically change their country’s direction.

Ultimately, they wouldn’t make it home. The direct flight from O’Hare International Airport to Tel Aviv was canceled, Jerusalem Post reporter Zvika Klein tweeted Monday night, because of a broken toilet.
Tell me G-d doesn't have a sense of humor!

Still, their single-minded focus – and the applause they received from the Americans who sent them off – reflected the election anxiety that has been laced through the annual convention here of the Jewish Federations of North America, the umbrella group for local Jewish charitable organizations…

For federation leaders, the election results could present practical challenges. Will local Jews choose to donate to support a country whose leadership is abhorrent to them? It’s one thing to organize trips to Israel to demonstrate support when the country’s enemies are threatening it; what about if the impetus for violence comes from Jews?
      - Poor things, shahada is the answer: zakat relieves you of the burden of freewill -

…A broken promise by Netanyahu is a best-case scenario… drop the extremists and instead create a more centrist government that would be palatable to American Jews.

Another desired outcome: a continued stalemate, in which no candidate gets a mandate to form a government. In that scenario, Yair Lapid, the centrist current prime minister, would continue to ruin run the country.

“The longer he is in charge, the more people will believe that he can be in charge…” THAT's how bad he is!

That’s also the best-case scenario for the Biden administration, according to people at the conference who are in touch with the White House…

“I’m not as confident,” she said. “If I let my thoughts go where they want I would cry.”

Among Duek’s concerns about a government that includes far-right parties is the status of women.
Not an Israeli issue, her concern is personal U$D.

And late Monday night, at a reception hosted by JQ International on behalf of LGBTQ Jews, attendees were fretting about what would happen to queer Israelis if the government includes openly anti-LGBTQ parties.

“Our lives are in play in these elections,” said Ethan Felson, executive director of A Wider Bridge, a group that advocates for LGBTQ Jews in the United States and Israel. He was referring to the contests in both countries. “We may very well be waking up to these nightmares.”

  2. The left has obliterated the credible existence of a real “far right” since they moved the goal posts so far that middle-class values have become extremist in the eyes of paid media. Let’s hope Bibi pulls it off, and when he does let this be the kick-off to a Western renaissance, where men are men, women are women, and the return of real money starves these collectivist cretins of funding.

    • Israeli MSM is another tentacle of the Enemy. Together with the far-left Supreme Court, they managed to sabotage the will of the voters, in order to Make Israel a Colony Again. But fractious Israelis pulled together at last.

WSJ spelled it out, March 18, 2015:
      Netanyahu’s Victory
President Obama loses his bid to defeat a U.S. ally.
The Israeli election that looked like a cliffhanger when the polls closed on Tuesday had turned into a decisive victory for Benjamin Netanyahu and his Likud Party by Wednesday morning.

With at least 29 seats in the parliament compared to 24 for the main center-left party, Israel’s Prime Minister should be able to put together a ruling coalition of center-right parties that is more manageable than his last majority.

The victory is a remarkable personal triumph for Mr. Netanyahu, who is now Israel’s second longest-serving Prime Minister after David Ben-Gurion. He gambled that he could assemble a more stable center-right coalition, as well as by giving a high-stakes speech to the U.S. Congress on Iran two weeks before the election, and in the final days stressing above all the security themes that must be Israel’s abiding concern.

Mr. Netanyahu and Likud were trailing in the polls in the final week as the opposition stressed the rising cost of food and housing and an economy that had slowed to about 3% growth from near 6% in 2010. But in the closing days Mr. Netanyahu played up that foreigners (read: President Obama) wanted him defeated, and he rejected statehood for Palestinians…

While the results may dismay Mr. Netanyahu’s detractors abroad, especially in the White House, they surely reflect Israel’s security consensus…

As for peace with the Palestinians, Israelis have seen Gaza become a launching pad for missile attacks on innocent civilians after Israel left. They have seen the Palestinian Authority reject reasonable land-for-peace offers and the terror group Hamas join the PA’s governing coalition. Israelis have shown they will take risks for peace—recall Oslo in 1993 and Ehud Barak’s sweeping concessions in 2000 that Yasser Arafat rejected—but they are not suicidal.

President Obama might also reflect on his own contribution to Mr. Netanyahu’s victory. Israelis surrounded by hostile nations sworn to their destruction are most likely to take risks for peace when they feel secure in America’s support. But Mr. Obama’s looming concessions to Iran’s nuclear program have united Israelis and Arabs in opposition.

The President has also been so personally and overtly hostile to Mr. Netanyahu, even trying to stop and then belittling his speech to Congress, that he invited a backlash.

It isn’t Mr. Obama’s habit to admit error, or to be gracious to his opponents, but it would serve the interests of both nations if he were. Israel’s raucous democracy is imperfect, like America’s, but it is the only reliable one in the bloody cauldron of the Middle East.

  3. Today the U.S. Federal Reserve is expected to raise interest rates another 75 basis points, or 3/4%. They will do this so as to not show any weakness in their vow to fight inflation. However, Mr. Market will be listening intently to the words that accompany this action. Any wavering will be seen as some sign of mitigation of its resolve.

That precious metals have not been able to efficiently signal inflation as they traditionally have is a testament to the depth and breadth of their financialization since 1987 or, perhaps more accurately, since the creation of the PM futures market (paper) in the mid 1970s.

Real money, and its value truly discovered, will not be suppressed much longer:

  4. This 25 minute vid explains how in 1987 the Thatcher government was convinced by bankers to allow the Bank of England to oversee the London Gold Pool. The result was, effectively, the unconstrained financialization of the precious metals market wherein no physical was required to exchange or settle contracts. Subsequent years have seen trading volumes of pms explode to wild multiples of base physical stocks, so that the volume of daily trades have zero bearing on real metals in hand.

What appears to be price suppression can in fact be what amounts to a mattress on a pea. In other words, without physical collateral being required to settle paper trades, the volume of paper naturally smothers the incredibly small physical beneath it. No intent of suppression may be required while whizz and whirl of hundreds of millions of dollars exchange hands daily in the name, but not substance, of physical ownership.

    • World’s largest iPhone plant under Covid lockdown in China…
Posted by Kane on November 2, 2022 11:46 am

In the days of “Foxconn Great Escape” from the iPhone factory in #china’s Zhengzhou, many commercial drivers risked being criminally charged by CCP by picking up the Covid refugees on foot that are trying to reach for Freedom.

Many Foxconn ??refugees who finally walked home in the countryside after the “iPhone Long March” reaching for Freedom only found themselves lost the Freedom again by being locked up in the quarantine concentration tents.

    • Why Workers Are Fleeing China’s ‘IPhone’ City

The ‘Foxconn Great Escape’: Workers Flee China’s ‘iPhone City’: Hundreds and perhaps thousands of workers fled a Chinese manufacturing complex that accounts for 85% of iPhone assembly capacity. The mass migration, which began this weekend, called into question that country’s COVID-control measures and, more broadly, its reliability as a part of global supply chains.

“Something snapped over the weekend,” Bloomberg News reports. Employees suddenly fled the Zhengzhou plant of Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. Ltd., better known as Foxconn. Videos show, in what is now called the “Foxconn Great Escape” or the “iPhone Long March,” workers scrambling over high chain fences at the plant, known as “iPhone City.”

To avoid detection, workers traveled through cropland by day. At night, they took to the roads. “Some people were walking amid wheat fields with their luggage, blankets, and quilts,” said a poster on WeChat, the popular Chinese social media platform. “I couldn’t help but feel sad.”

Residents of neighboring areas rallied, for instance leaving water and provisions in the open on roadsides. Social media postings reported signs such as “For Foxconn workers returning home.”

Truckers also pitched in. Risking criminal prosecution, they took workers in pick-up, dump, and flatbed trucks. One video shows a woman standing on the back of a big tank truck speeding down a highway in the rain.

  5. Pelosi’s Ex-Neighbor Reveals Security She Saw Always at Speaker’s Mansion – Says Even Her Computers Were Scrambled

The home invasion beating of Nancy Pelosi’s husband has one of her former neighbors perplexed.

Marjorie Campbell expressed her surprise that the crime happened, speaking in an interview with the Daily Mail published on Tuesday.

The ex-neighbor described the constant presence of a security detail outside the residence.

A 42-year-old man is charged with entering the Pelosi home and beating Paul Pelosi with a hammer early Friday morning, expressing his intent for a confrontation with the Speaker herself.

‘There were black cars outside that house, particularly up on Normandie Terrace, all of the time,” Campbell said of her experiences as a Pelosi family neighbor

  6. What can one expect having the Prime Minister, Deputy PM, and many other globalists in cabinet- – working for Klaus Schwab?

Kary Mullis, won the Nobel Prize Chemistry for his invention of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) method. He stated the PCR test was a research tool and should NEVER (and he did capitalize NEVER) be used to diagnose a disease in a human being.

Michele Rempel Garner tweeted “Breaking – – I just got documentation that shows the Liberals spent $411 million on mandatory COVID airport testing in 2022 alone..

Amidst industry begging to end the practice, long after other countries stopped doing it, and while airports were in chaos…..$411 million

  7. US Military Goes on High Alert After Intel Reveals ‘Imminent’ Attack: Report

As widespread anti-government protests continue to rage in the streets of Iran, leaders of the Islamic Republic seemingly seek a deadly distraction.

According to The Wall Street Journal, that distraction could come in the form of potential terrorist attacks on multiple U.S. targets in Saudi Arabia and Iraq. The outlet was told by officials from both countries that attacks could be “imminent.”

During a Tuesday news conference, Pentagon press secretary Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder told reporters that “the threat situation in the region” has American officials “concerned,” according to a report by Fox News.

    • Saudi Arabia shares intel with US on ‘imminent’ Iranian attack

Saudi Arabia has shared intelligence with the United States indicating that Iran is planning an “imminent” attack on the kingdom, the Associated Press reported on Tuesday.

The U.S. National Security Council said in a statement on Tuesday that the United States was “concerned about the threat picture” and was in “constant contact” with the Saudis via military and intelligence channels.

“We will not hesitate to act in the defense of our interests and partners in the region,” the statement added.

According to the report, which cited three U.S. officials, the heightened concern in Washington comes as the Biden administration is stepping up its criticism of Tehran over its ongoing deadly crackdown on nationwide protests, and for supplying arms, in particular kamikaze drones, to Russia for use in its war in Ukraine.

Iran is reportedly preparing to send approximately 1,000 additional weapons, including short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missiles and attack UAVs, to Moscow.

      • I guess the Saudis haven’t quite firmed up a protection deal with Uncle Vlad. Turning back to the U.S. for support given recent energy issues seems a bit rich. Understanding geopolitical bedfellows in the twilight of the petrodollar is challenging.

        • SA and Russia are the top two producers of OPEC+, so they’re partners on good terms.

Trouble is, Uncle Vlad needs Iran as its tool. That’s as much of a problem for Saudi as it is for Israelis.

Monday witnessed a massive Russian attack (reportedly the largest since February 24th) using high-precision long-range air- and sea-based armament on Ukrainian facilities that control communication and energy systems throughout the country, which reportedly disrupted the command control and logistics operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) and their logistic networks. You got to ask, “What took them so long?”

The war in Ukraine clearly has entered a new phase, with Ukraine failing to press its offensive and Russia solidifying its lines of defense and launching counter attacks that are pushing Ukraine out of key strategic areas in Donetsk. It appears that the combination of the murder of Darya Dugina, the sabotage of the Nordstream pipelines, the bombing of the Kerch bridge and the spoiled drone attack on Russia’s Black Sea Fleet in Sevastapol convinced the Russians to step up its military strikes to destroy critical electrical and energy infrastructure that they had previously left intact.

Yet, , even while achieving success in systematically turning off the lights and heat throughout Ukraine, Russia is focusing on destroying transformers and key transmission installations rather than blow up nuclear, thermal and water power plants. If those sites are still intact, Russia will face an easier reconstruction task once Ukraine is defeated. It is easier to install new transformers and power lines than it is to build a new nuclear reactor. Right?

The Russian strikes reportedly have eliminated 50% of Ukraine’s ability to supply power and heat, which means life in Kiev, Lviv and Kharkiv will become unsustainable. We are not talking about the inconvenience of being unable to charge your cell phone or watch your favorite show on Netflix or keep your computer battery alive. The loss of power cuts off water supply and degrades the sewer system. As I noted in a previous piece, if your live four or more floors above ground level you will either have to carry buckets of water to the toilet or give up flushing. It also means no heat and the temperatures in Ukraine fall to near 0 Celsius at night. That would be tolerable if you have a fireplace (which most of the apartments in the urban areas do not have). With no radiant heat you must layer up just to avoid hypothermia.

(Richard: There are two reasons Russia didn’t make this move before,

1- It take the to manufacture the munitions that were used in this attack. It can take months to manufacture the munitions that are used in one day’s hard fighting.

2- Putin was waiting until the weather is turning cold. He wants Generals January and February to win the war on his terms.

Given the way Biden and Obama treat our allies it won’t take much to cause a massive split between the US and Britain. Combine the death of Queen Elizabeth with Obama’s treatment of Britain and you see the destruction of the Special Relationship.

The international Left has worked hard to destroy the alliance that destroyed the Soviet Union. This destruction is pretty much completed opening the way for the left to attempt to take over the world. The problem the left has is the way non leftist are fighting back.

We are seeing massive pushback in the US, Israel and Brazil. The other Western Nations are fighting back and scoring victories but the three mentioned are the ones with the victories at the ballot box. Yes I know the left in all three are fighting hard and in the US and Brazil are close to fomenting a revolution. The problem the left has is both nations having a high percentage of the population being legally armed. Armed people tend to think for themselves.

    • (Richard: This is how Russia is replacing the ammo they have been using)

US Accuses North Korea Of Hiding Large Munitions Shipments To Russia
      Tyler Durden’s Photo
      WEDNESDAY, NOV 02, 2022 – 02:50 PM
The United States is once again accusing North Korea of secretly helping the Russian war effort in Ukraine, at a moment there’s been international condemnation of Iranian drones being used against Ukrainian cities.

“In September, the (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea) publicly denied that it intended to provide ammunition to Russia,” National Security Council official and spokesman John Kirby told CNN. “However, our information indicates that the DPRK is covertly supplying Russia’s war in Ukraine with a significant number of artillery shells, while obfuscating the real destination of the arms shipments by trying to make it appear as though they are being sent to countries in the Middle East or North Africa.”

        • Without reading the article I will say that this is what Obama and Biden want to happen.

They may find some temporary protection from China. The problem is that China is in economic trouble. They are ordering about 25% of the shipping containers they ordered last year. They are also selling US Bonds at a discount to get much needed cash. They are in massive economic trouble. With the rest of the world collapsing there is no way they can make even a semi soft landing when the crash starts.

Every aspect of the story should be familiar to U.S. observers save one: the language.

After incumbent Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro’s loss in Sunday’s runoff election, his supporters on the U.S. far right have deployed the same playbook they followed after Donald Trump’s loss two years ago. Allege fraud. Insist that the other side is deeply corrupt. Push for some extra-democratic process by which Bolsonaro might retain power.

[…]Bannon is a prolific podcaster, and he dedicated part of his show Tuesday to interviewing a reporter discussing the scene in Brazil. He asked if perhaps the protests were “a beginning of a Brazilian spring” — suggesting a popular uprising against the democratic election. The reporter insisted that Bolsonaro wasn’t endorsing any sort of uprising but, instead, declined to concede so that he had time to uncover this purported “fraud.” Bannon replied by disparaging the Biden administration’s rapid and pointed recognition of the election results as suspicious.

    • Bolsonaro Calls on His Supporters to Lift Brazil Road Blocks

Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro called on his protesting supporters to dismantle hundreds of road blocks, saying these harm the economy and aren’t a legitimate form of demonstrating.

In a video posted on Twitter, Bolsonaro said that holding protests elsewhere “is very welcome, it’s part of our democracy”.

Supporters of the president who refuse to accept his defeat in Sunday’s election took to the streets across the country on Wednesday. Some congregated outside army bases, criticizing the electoral process and holding signs calling on the military to intervene to overturn the official results.

According to local media outlet G1, there were demonstrations in front of military installations in at least 24 states, as well as in the Federal District, where the capital Brasilia is located. Bolsonaro, a former army officer, has strong support among the military, though the constitution forbids them from interfering in politics.

The president appeared grudgingly to accept his defeat in a speech on Tuesday. Although he didn’t formally concede, he said he would follow the constitution, and has ordered his chief of staff to begin the transition process.

The demonstrations were still partially or fully blocking 146 highways across 17 states on Wednesday afternoon, while 688 protests had already been dismantled, according to the federal highway police. That compares to more than 200 highways affected on Tuesday morning.

The protests, which threaten to disrupt Brazil’s key agriculture sector, are being held after the president lost to Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva by a margin of less than 2 percentage points, the tightest result in a presidential runoff in the country’s recent history.

  18. Excess deaths in England now higher than during the COVID PANDEMIC | What’s the cause?

‘It’s mostly related to the Pandemic. This should have been dealt with in a more timely fashion.’

Former Chairman of the British Medical Association GPs Committee, Dr Laurence Buckman reacts to excess deaths in England now running higher than during the Covid pandemic.

    • the telegraph –Deaths from cardiovascular disease show a significant excess

Rising non-Covid excess deaths reveal the disastrous legacy of the pandemic

Experts believe higher deaths from heart complaints and diabetes mean the indirect effects of the pandemic will be greater than Covid itself

When Britain first locked down on March 23 2020, the average daily death rate from Covid was around 213, triggering understandable alarm and the ushering in of strict restrictions.

Now, a similar number of unexpected deaths are occurring each day, the majority of which are not primarily caused by coronavirus.

Yet there is largely silence from the Government and health service.

Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) shows that in the past six months there have been more excess deaths from causes other than Covid, than deaths ‘due to’ coronavirus for the entire year.

Figures reveal there were 18,394 deaths ‘due to’ Covid recorded this year in England and Wales. But since May there have been 23,195 excess deaths where the primary cause was another condition.

Some of those people did die with a coronavirus infection, but it was not the main reason for the death.

Experts continue to argue over the reasons behind this recent uptick in unexpected deaths, which shows no sign of slowing.

But it is likely that collateral damage from the pandemic, coupled with long term NHS problems, have collided into a perfect, and deadly, storm.

Amitava Banerjee, the professor of clinical data science and honorary consultant cardiologist at the Institute of Health Informatics, University College London, recently completed work showing how admissions for heart problems declined steeply during the pandemic.

In 2020, there were 31,064 fewer hospital admissions for heart patients, 14,506 fewer emergency admissions and 16,560 fewer elective procedures compared to 2016-2019 in England, Scotland and Wales.

Elective admissions were still down in 2021, with 10,996 fewer operations but, alarmingly, emergency admissions for heart problems had increased by 25,878.

Prof Banerjee fears that the indirect effects of the pandemic will turn out to be greater than the harm from Covid itself, and that it is vital for future preparedness planning to take into account long-term outcomes.

“Treating and preventing underlying diseases is not a can that should be kicked down the road,” he said.

“We should never ever have had a pandemic preparedness team that did not consider the indirect and long-term effects. Traditionally, it has been virologists and infection specialists, but with a pandemic of this scale across so many countries, that is not fit.

Indirect effects will lead to more deaths

“We focussed on the direct effects of excess deaths from Covid but from the beginning it’s likely the indirect effects will lead to more deaths, and more morbidity and more economic impacts than Covid deaths itself.”

Some experts have argued that the figures may not be quite as worrying because the ONS does not take into account population changes, simply comparing weekly figures to the expected five year average (excluding 2020). As the population ages, more people would be expected to die each year.

However, other measures which do take the ageing population into account are also showing worrying rises in excess deaths.

A recent report from the Institute of Actuaries Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI) showed that in the third quarter – July, August and September – Britain saw the highest mortality since 2010.

Cobus Daneel, the chair of the CMI Mortality Projections Committee, said: “The third quarter of 2022 saw unusually high mortality for the time of year – higher than any third quarter since 2010.

“There were more deaths than expected from non-Covid causes. This contrasts with most of the pandemic period, when non-Covid deaths were lower than expected.”

The situation is all the more unusual as mortality rates should have fallen after the pandemic because so many people died early, an effect known as ‘harvesting’. Instead we are seeing the reverse trend.

The Government has made a half-hearted attempt to find out what is going on with excess deaths, asking for a report from the Office for Health Improvement and Disparities (OEHD).

The report showed a worrying increase in deaths in people who had heart complaints and diabetes, many of which were preventable.

Recent reports have found that people hospitalised with Covid-19 are more likely to suffer heart problems, particularly in the first month after their release, which could be leading to some of the excess.

Epidemiologist Veena Raleigh, a senior fellow at The King’s Fund, who recently investigated the probable causes for the excess believes this could be a real factor, along with NHS problems.

She told The Telegraph: “The continuing trend of higher numbers of deaths in England and Wales than expected (compared with previous years), apparent since the spring, is worrying.

“From April to mid-October there have been almost 30,000 excess deaths, of which one-third have been due to Covid-19 – a reminder that the virus remains a life-threatening risk.

Bulk of excess deaths are unexplained

“While some 3000 excess deaths occurred during the excessively warm summer periods, that still leaves the bulk of excess deaths unexplained.

“Deaths from cardiovascular disease and diabetes, in particular, show a significant excess; Covid-19 increases the risk of subsequent cardiovascular problems and could in part be driving excess deaths.

“An overstretched NHS coping with a large backlog of care and unprecedented pressures on emergency services could be another factor.”

Health experts are continuing to call for a full government investigation, with Dr Charles Levinson of the private GP service DoctorCall complaining that he had now been “ringing the alarm on this for months and months”.

But some experts believe it will be tricky to tease out which deaths should be included.

Prof Kevin McConway, emeritus professor of applied statistics, at the the Open University, said: “There’s no way of going through the list of people who died and saying ‘This death is an excess death, this death isn’t’, because there’s nothing resembling a sensible way of deciding on an individual basis who would have lived and who would have died.

“That all makes any investigation of the reasons for the excess deaths rather difficult.”

However, experts believe there is still too much attention being paid to the direct effects of Covid at the expense of the wider impacts.

Prof Banerjee said specialists should come together to pool their data on excess deaths in their field.

“What I see is still a focus on the direct effects of Covid,” he said.

“Nobody who is in charge of the NHS, or any of the new health secretaries, are making any noises about it.”

  22. EU Warns Musk Not to Restore Free Speech Protections After Calls from Clinton and Other Democratic Leaders

We have been discussing how Democratic leaders like Hillary Clinton called on foreign companies to pass censorship laws to prevent Elon Musk from restoring free speech protections on Twitter. The EU has responded aggressively to warn Musk not to allow greater free speech or face crippling fines and even potential criminal enforcement. After years of using censorship-by-surrogates in social media companies, Democratic leaders seem to have rediscovered good old-fashioned state censorship.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.) declared Musk’s pledge to restore free speech values on social media as threatening Democracy itself. She has promised that “there are going to be rules” to block such changes. She is not alone. Former President Obama has declared “regulation has to be part of the answer” to disinformation.

The danger of the rising levels of censorship is far greater than the dangers of such absurd claims of the law or science — or in this case both. What we can do is to maximize the free discourse and expression on the Internet to allow free speech itself to be the ultimate disinfectant of disinformation.
For her part, Hillary Clinton is looking to Europe to fill the vacuum and called upon her European counterparts to pass a massive censorship law to “bolster global democracy before it’s too late.”

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern recently repeated this call for global censorship at the United Nations to the applause of diplomats and media alike.

EU censors have assured Democratic leaders that they will not allow free speech to break out on Twitter regardless of the wishes of its owner and customers.

One of the most anti-free speech figures in the West, EU’s Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton has been raising the alarm that Twitter users might be able to read uncensored material or hear unauthorized views.

Breton himself threatened that Twitter must “fly by [the European Union’s] rules” in censoring views deemed misleading or harmful by EU bureaucrats. Breton has been moving publicly to warn Musk not to try to reintroduce protections that go beyond the tolerance of the EU for free speech. Musk is planning to meet with the EU censors and has conceded that he may not be able resist such mandatory censorship rules.

The hope of leaders like Clinton is the anti-free speech measure recently passed by EU countries, the Digital Services Act. The DSA contains mandatory “disinformation” rules for censoring “harmful” thoughts or views.

Breton has made no secret that he views free speech as a danger coming from the United States that needs to be walled off from the Internet. He previously declared that, with the DSA, the EU is now able to prevent the Internet from again becoming a place for largely unregulated free speech, which he referred to as the “Wild West” period of the Internet.

It is a telling reference because the EU views free speech itself as an existential danger. They reject the notion of free speech as its own protection where good speech can overcome bad speech. That is viewed as the “Wild West.”

Many of us are far more fearful of global censors than some whack job spewing hateful thoughts from his basement. That is why I have described myself as an Internet Originalist

The alternative is “internet originalism” — no censorship. If social media companies returned to their original roles, there would be no slippery slope of political bias or opportunism; they would assume the same status as telephone companies. We do not need companies to protect us from harmful or “misleading” thoughts. The solution to bad speech is more speech, not approved speech.

If Pelosi demanded that Verizon or Sprint interrupt calls to stop people saying false or misleading things, the public would be outraged. Twitter serves the same communicative function between consenting parties; it simply allows thousands of people to participate in such digital exchanges. Those people do not sign up to exchange thoughts only to have Dorsey or some other internet overlords monitor their conversations and “protect” them from errant or harmful thoughts.

  23. Axis of Evil: Chinese Tech Powering Iranian Drones in Russia-Ukraine War

The Iranian-made drones Russia is using to kill Ukrainians are being powered by Chinese technology, showing that the Communist regime is playing a larger role in the conflict than previously known, according to a watchdog group.

Chinese Communist technology is “enabling Iran to manufacture and supply drones to Russian forces,” according to the Institute for Science and International Security, a think tank that closely monitors Iran’s military infrastructure.

“It appears that Chinese companies are supplying Iran with copies of Western commodities to produce UAV combat drones.” Components used to power these drones also appear to originate from companies based in the United States and Europe….

“From there, authorities need to systematically expose Iran’s procurement network, identifying trading companies, distributors, shipping companies, agents friendly to Iran, and ultimately those in Iran organizing these purchases.”

  24. 9 hours at an Iranian airport: IDF soldier faces unnerving flight diversion

An Israeli soldier aboard a plane from Uzbekistan landed in Iran last week and spent nine hours on the ground before safely departing, the military cleared for publication Thursday.

According to the Israel Defense Forces, the 19-year-old Russian-speaking soldier, who serves in a non-sensitive position in the IDF’s Northern Command, had been on vacation visiting family in Uzbekistan.

The civilian flight from the Uzbek capital Tashkent to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates last Thursday was diverted due to a medical condition of one of the passengers. It landed at Shiraz International Airport.

The plane spent around nine hours in Iran before taking off again without incident, the IDF said.

Hebrew-language media reports said passengers disembarked and were sent to wait in the terminal. While on the ground the soldier called her parents, who then notified her commanders…

The Mossad spy agency then sprung into action and made contact with the soldier, instructing her to conceal her Israeli identity and not speak Hebrew, the reports said.

While in Iran the soldier presented airport workers with her foreign passport, which had reportedly been issued in Israel, without arousing any suspicion. According to some reports, the soldier was traveling on a Russian passport.…
