  1. Five men stood waiting for the elevator. When the first car came the building manager looked inside as the doors opened. A little old lady stood wearing a mask. “It’s ok, Margaret,” he said. “I’ve got a bunch of guys here. We’ll take the next one.” The doors closed and the men stood for a moment, silent, until the manager said, “All I know is I’ve had three shots and Covid twice, so I’ve had it with the masks.” He pressed the button to call the next car.

The next one came and the five men stepped inside. The doors closed and they began to descend. One of the contractors said, “After I got my last Astrazeneca shot–man–I was sick. Thought I was gonna die. I told my doctor. He said it had nothin’ to do with the shot. Yeah, right. Nothin’ to do with the shot.”

The other contractors remained silent. One of them thought about his work. He needed the job. He recalled previous, similar encounters. Try to get out of the elevator without saying anything, he thought. Change the subject if asked. Bring up the cost of materials. That’ll distract them. –Never know who thinks you’re taking up space…

  2. Dramatic financial markets are lost in the shell game of manipulators. If one clears the table with a swipe of the arm, for example, and regards the currency markets as nothing but grand theater, this aspect of the world economy makes much more sense. Every fiat is a derivative of the USD, and all are pegged and derived, to a degree, to this, the mother of all. Their race to the bottom, in order to sustain exports, will be followed by Mother’s final soliloquy. The curtain then falls but Mama takes no bow for her performance.

U.S Fed-paid mouthpieces try to gloss the carnage on msm by saying a “soft landing” is possible. This is the same as Fauci claiming the vaxx is “safe and effective” while you clutch your chest and keel over. We’re cooking in a sauna of captured-media lies. Any safe landing for the world economy is pablum for those who think hope is a strategy for survival. It ain’t, and never was.

Physical silver bullion is draining from London vaults at a rate never before seen. This can only mean the rich are running for cover. But what of silver’s pitiful performance? Why does price not reflect demand? Suppression? Maybe not.

In the broadest sense there may be reasons why precious metals can be kept down without any “hidden hand” at play. Maybe the paper markets are responsible simply by the ebb and flow of the shorts and longs doing what they do by daily rote. Do I believe this to be the case? Not really, because massive, repeated moves during thinly-traded moments are simply too conspicuous.

Will the Fed pivot soon? I think not. It is just too screwed, and so must hang in with its own theatrics to redeem its shredded credibility. Continuing to raise rates to where they must be to stop real inflation (18%), and it pushes the economy into depression. Pivot, and watch inflation run. Note: the effect of recent raises has a lag time into 2023 before we see what they do. Next week’s 75 basis point raise will add to these effects considerably.

  3. the guardian – Iranian woman dies ‘after being beaten by morality police’ over hijab law

Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurd, dies after ‘violent arrest’ for infringing hijab rules amid Iranian crackdown on women’s dress

A 22-year-old woman has died in an Iranian hospital days after being detained by the regime’s morality police for allegedly not complying with the country’s hijab regulations.

Mahsa Amini was travelling with her family from Iran’s western province of Kurdistan to the capital, Tehran, to visit relatives when she was reportedly arrested for failing to meet the country’s strict rules on women’s dress.

Witnesses reported that Amini was beaten in the police van, an allegation the police deny.

The news comes weeks after Iran’s hardline president, Ebrahim Raisi, ordered a crackdown on women’s rights and called for stricter enforcement of the country’s mandatory dress code, which has required all women to wear the hijab head-covering since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Amini’s family were notified that she had been taken to hospital hours after her arrest. She was transferred to an intensive-care unit at Kasra hospital.

According to Hrana, an Iranian human rights organisation, Amini’s family were told during her arrest that she would be released after a “re-education session”.

The police later said that Amini had suffered a heart attack. Amini’s family disputed this, however, and said she was healthy and had not been experiencing any health problems.

Amini was in a coma after arriving at the hospital, her family said, adding that they were told by hospital staff that she was brain dead.

Photographs of Amini lying in the hospital bed in a coma with bandages around her head and breathing tubes have circulated on social media.

Her hospitalisation and death drew condemnation from Iranian celebrities and politicians. Mahmoud Sadeghi, a reformist politician and former MP, called on the supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to speak out over Amini’s case.

“What does the supreme leader, who rightfully denounced US police over the death of George Floyd, say about the Iranian police’s treatment of Mahsa Amini?” Sadeghi tweeted on Friday.

The interior ministry and Tehran’s prosecutor launched inquiries into the case after an order from Raisi, state media reported.

Raisi signed a decree on 15 August clamping down on women’s dress and stipulating harsher punishments for violating the strict code, both in public and online.

Women have been arrested across the country after the national “hijab and chastity day” declared on 12 July. One of the women was Sepideh Rashno, a writer and artist who was reportedly beaten and tortured in custody before making a forced apology on television.

Human rights groups have reported that extra security forces have been deployed outside Kasra hospital.

the guardian – Protests in Iran at death of Kurdish woman after arrest by morality police

Despite warnings, hundreds of people have reportedly gathered in Mahsa Amini’s home town of Saqqez for her burial

A series of protests have broken out in Iran after the death of a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Amini, who died in hospital on 16 September, three days after she was arrested and reportedly beaten by morality police in Tehran.

Demonstrators initially gathered outside Kasra hospital in Tehran, where Amini was being treated. Human rights groups reported that security forces deployed pepper spray against protesters and that several were arrested.

Amini’s body was then transported to her native province of Kurdistan for burial, which took place on the morning of 17 September.

“The security institutions forced the Amini family to hold the funeral without any ceremony to prevent tensions,” said Soma Rostami from Hengaw, a Kurdish human rights organisation.

Despite the warnings, hundreds of people have reportedly gathered in Amini’s home town of Saqqez for the burial. Some shouted anti-government slogans such as “death to the dictator”.

Kurdish civil society organisations have called for a general strike in all of Kurdistan.

Videos of protesters in Saqqez tearing down posters of Iran’s authoritarian leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, have spread across social media.

Amini was visiting Tehran with her family on 13 September when she was arrested by morality police for allegedly violating the country’s strict hijab law. Her family were told she would be released from the police station after a “re-education session”.

Witnesses reported that Amini was beaten in the detention van, an allegation the police deny.

The police maintain that Amini suffered a heart attack, an account of events that is not accepted by Amini’s family.

The news of Amini’s death comes amid a crackdown on women’s rights orchestrated by the country’s president, Ebrahim Raisi.

As during previous protests, the Iranian authorities appear to have restricted internet access.

A investigation into Amini’s death has been launched by the authorities, state media reported.

the guardian – Iranian authorities plan to use facial recognition to enforce new hijab law

The Iranian government is planning to use facial recognition technology on public transport to identify women who are not complying with a strict new law on wearing the hijab, as the regime continues its increasingly punitive crackdown on women’s dress.

The secretary of Iran’s Headquarters for Promoting Virtue and Preventing Vice, Mohammad Saleh Hashemi Golpayegani, announced in a recent interview that the government was planning to use surveillance technology against women in public places following a new decree signed by the country’s hardline president, Ebrahim Raisi, on restricting women’s clothing.

The decree was signed on 15 August, a month after the 12 July national “Hijab and Chastity Day”, which sparked countrywide protests by women who posted videos of themselves on social media with their heads uncovered on streets and on buses and trains. In recent weeks, the Iranian authorities have responded with a spate of arrests, detentions and forced confessions on television.

“The Iranian government has long played with the idea of using facial recognition to identify people who violate the law,” said Azadeh Akbari, a researcher at the University of Twente, in the Netherlands. “The regime combines violent ‘old-fashioned’ forms of totalitarian control dressed up in new technologies.”

The hijab, a head-covering worn by Muslim women, became mandatory after Iran’s revolution in 1979. Yet, over the decades since, women have pushed the limits of the stipulated dress code.

Some of the women arrested for defying the new decree were identified after videos were posted online of them being harassed on public transport for not wearing the hijab properly. One, 28-year-old Sepideh Rashno, was arrested after a video circulated on social media of her being berated for “improper dress” by a fellow passenger, who was then forced off the vehicle by bystanders intervening on Rashno’s behalf. According to the human rights group Hrana, Rashno was beaten after her arrest and subsequently forced to apologise on television to the passenger who harassed her.

Rashno is not the first person to suffer violent repression as a result of going viral on the internet. In 2014, six Iranians – three men and three women – were sentenced to one year in prison and 91 lashes after a video of them dancing in Tehran to Pharrell Williams’s song Happy had more than 150,000 views.

Since 2015, the Iranian government has been phasing in biometric identity cards, which include a chip that stores data such as iris scans, fingerprints and facial images. Researchers worry that this information will now be used with facial recognition technology to identify people who violate the mandated dress code, both in the streets and cyberspace.

“A large chunk of the Iranian population is now in this national biometric data bank, as many public services are becoming dependent on biometric IDs,” said Akbari. “So the government has access to all the faces; they know where people come from and they can easily find them. A person in a viral video can be identified in seconds.”

She added: “By doing that, the government proves a point: ‘Don’t think that a small thing happening on a bus somewhere is going to be forgotten. We know who you are and we will find you and then you will have to suffer the consequences.’”

“Ebrahim Raisi is a real ideologue,” said Annabelle Sreberny, professor emeritus at the Centre for Iranian Studies at Soas University of London. “There are terrible economic and environmental problems facing Iran. The inflation rate may now be reaching 50%, but the government is choosing to focus on women’s rights.”

Sreberny added: “I think it is part and parcel of a failing government that is simply not dealing with these massive infrastructural, economic and environmental issues. And women are seen to be a soft target.”

    • Iran’s Khamenei Appears In Public Despite Reports Of ‘Grave Illness’

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei attended a scheduled religious ceremony on Saturday where he spoke, despite recent rumors and reports of “grave illness”.

There was no mention that he would be speaking at the gathering when the news of his presence at the ceremony emerged. In fact, he was not sitting at his usual spot, facing the crowd. But according to media in Tehran, he gave a short address at the end, after the scheduled mourning ceremony.

The ceremony was held to mark Arbaeen with members of Basij militia from Iranian universities. Arbaeen is the 40th day after the death of the third Shiite Imam, Hussain Ibn Ali, who was killed in a power rivalry by the reigning caliph in a clash in Karbala in 680 AD.

According to the official news agency IRNA, in his short address Khamenei preached about Arbaeen and its significance and urged the Basij students to keep the Shia tradition alive.

The Iranian leader’s official website, Khamenei.ir, had announced Friday that he would be hosting a group of students at Imam Khomeini Hoseinieh, a gathering hall adjacent to his residence and office in central Tehran.

Iran’s 83-year-old leader had not appeared in public for over two weeks after a visit to the religious city of Mashhad, his birth city, to attend a ritual at the Shrine of Imam Reza.

express UK – Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei ‘on death bed with cancer’ – regime risks ‘imploding’

THE Supreme Leader of Iran Ali Khamenei is understood to be on his death bed with experts claiming that it could lead to the collapse of the Ayatollah regime in the Middle Eastern power.

[…] “When Khomenei died and power was transferred to Khamenei the Assembly of Experts had to grant him the status of Ayatollah, which title he never technically earned. This created a bit of a stir in Iran as people felt betrayed and it profoundly angered the religious institutions in Iraq. From their point of view Khamenei exploited the religious institutions and standing for personal gain and brought into question the integrity of the Shia clergy.

“For Khamenei to use his position and power to now anoint his son, Mojtaba Khamenei is bound to generate outrage – especially since the position was promised to President Raisi. Now Raisi is quite a powerful man in Iran beyond his office as his father-in-law is no other than Ahmad Alamolhoda – the custodian and chief Imam of the holy city of Mashhad. Mashhad commands billions of dollars in revenues every year and it has its own militia to protect its clergy, which obviously could present a threat to Tehran should there be a disagreement.”

09 16 2022 – NYT – Iran’s Supreme Leader Cancels Public Appearances After Falling Ill

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is on bed rest and under observation by a team of doctors, according to four people familiar with his health situation.

Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, canceled all meetings and public appearances last week after falling gravely ill and is currently on bed rest under observation by a team of doctors, according to four people familiar with his health situation.

Ayatollah Khamenei, 83, had surgery sometime last week for bowel obstruction after suffering extreme stomach pains and high fever, one of the people said. The four people, two of whom are based in Iran, including one who has close ties with the country’s Revolutionary Guards, requested anonymity for discussing a sensitive issue like Ayatollah Khamenei’s health.

Ayatollah Khamenei underwent the surgery at a clinic set up at his home and office complex and is being monitored around the clock by a team of doctors, the person familiar with the operation said. The ayatollah’s condition was considered critical last week but has improved, and he is currently resting, the person said. His doctors remain concerned that he is too weak to even sit up in bed.

As supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei wields huge authority in Iran and would be the final arbiter on issues like the nuclear deal that is currently being negotiated with the United States. A former president of Iran and protégé of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, the founder of the revolution that led to the creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979, Ayatollah Khamenei assumed the position of the country’s top religious, political and military authority in 1989.

The Tasnim news agency, affiliated with the Revolutionary Guards, posted a brief item on Friday saying that the ayatollah would attend a religious ceremony with university students on Saturday. But it wasn’t clear if it would take place, given his health.

Ayatollah Khamenei traveled to the religious city of Mashhad about two weeks ago to perform a ritual known as dust cleaning at the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad. He went into a secluded area of the shrine, cleaned it and placed his head on a tombstone in a sign of prayer and submission. A photo of him at the shrine was published by Iranian media.

Ayatollah Khamenei told the people traveling with him that it might be his last time at the shrine, given his age, according to one of the four people, who was familiar with the details of his trip. He got sick soon after arriving back in Tehran, and his situation deteriorated over the past week, the person said.

His office canceled all meetings last week and also an important annual meeting with the Assembly of Experts — the body that will decide his replacement once he dies — on Sept. 6 because he was too ill to sit up, according to four people familiar with his health condition.

A member of the Assembly of Experts, Hashem Hashemzadeh Harissi, told an Iranian newspaper that “in this round, unlike previous rounds, the members of the Assembly of Experts did not meet with the supreme leader” because it would “be a heavy burden on him.”

While Ayatollah Khamenei’s situation prompted some speculation in Iran and among opposition groups outside the country in recent days that he had died, the country’s president, Ebrahim Raisi, traveled to Uzbekistan for a regional security meeting, and analysts said he would probably have canceled his trip if the ayatollah’s life had been in danger. Mr. Raisi is also scheduled to travel to New York for the United Nations General Assembly, where he will be speaking on Wednesday.

Iran usually does not comment publicly on Ayatollah Khamenei’s health. But in 2014, he underwent prostate surgery, and his recovery was widely covered in the official media.

Iran’s United Nations mission in New York said it could not immediately comment without getting approval from Tehran.

  5. Ontario High School Defends “Fetishistic” Large Bust-Wearing Teacher

The Ontario High School at the center of controversy for having a male teaching young students while donning a large prosthetic bust has issued a full defense of the teacher in a newly-leaked email sent to parents.

On September 16, Reduxx confirmed the identity and employment status of the subject of viral images and videos which depicted a male instructor teaching students while wearing an unnaturally large prosthetic bust, complete with prominently protruding nipples.

While the images and videos had circulated for a few days prior, there was widespread confusion and disbelief as to whether or not the images were real, or, as some speculated, part of an elaborate hoax or comedy sketch.

[…]Following the viral news, OTHS has now issued an email statement to parents in which they defend Lemieux’s employment status in the name of inclusivity.

“We are aware of discussion on social media and in the media regarding Oakville Trafalgar High School. We would like to take this opportunity to reiterate to our community that we are committed to establishing and maintaining a safe, caring, inclusive, equitable and welcoming learning and working environment for all students and staff,” the email reads.

The school defers to the Ontario Human Rights Code, suggesting that any concerns about Lemieux would be akin to discrimination.

“We strive to promote a positive learning environment in schools consistent with the values of the HDSB and to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all students, staff and the community, regardless of race, age, ability, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, socioeconomic circumstances or body type/size.”

The school’s defense of Lemieux comes after international outcry following widely circulated photos and videos of the teacher posted to social media. In all of the photos, Lemieux pairs his prosthetic bust with a very tight shirt, and short-shorts or skirts.

The response to the news that the Lemieux was an active teacher of young students was met with overwhelming backlash, with people noting that his appearance was not appropriate in a school environment where children were present.

Many took to trying to get the attention of the Ontario Minister of Education, and the Premier of the province, Doug Ford.
