The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has temporarily suspended a federal rule for fuel sales in four states, including Indiana, in response to a fire that occurred at an oil refinery in Indiana last week. It is feared that the incident may cause disruptions in both gas pricing and supply, AP reported.
“As part of the Federal Government’s response to a fire and shutdown at the BP Whiting Refinery in Whiting, Indiana, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan today issued an emergency fuel waiver to help alleviate fuel shortages in four states whose supply of gasoline has been impacted by the refinery shutdown,” EPA said in a statement.

The Arizona Supreme court has shot down a proposed ballot initiative that would eliminate basic election integrity measures under the deceptive name “Arizonans for Free and Fair Elections.”
The Democrat-backed dark money ballot initiative officially titled Proposition 210 would have made it even easier for them to cheat by expanding drop boxes and mail-in voting, voter registration to all regardless of their citizenship status, automatic voter registration, and banning post-election audits — like the Arizona Senate’s 2020 Election audit. Under the new law, it would be a class 6 felony to “provide voted ballots to a person” for the purpose of auditing an election.

On Tuesday, Europe faced a worsening supply crunch after Russian energy giant Gazprom PSJC informed French utility Engie SA that natural gas supplies would immediately be reduced because of contract disagreements, reported Financial Times.
Engie said Gazprom notified it of “a reduction in gas deliveries, starting today, due to a disagreement between the parties on the application of some contracts.”
Gazprom’s reductions in NatGas over retaliation for sanctions related to its invasion of Ukraine have primarily targeted Germany and eastern Europe but now appear to extend to France. The continent is facing the worst energy crisis in half a century, sending prices of NatGas to record highs on supply shortage concerns ahead of the winter season.

“It is not at the level we would like to go into combat,” a US defense official told The Wall Street Journal of the Pentagon’s fast depleting stockpiles due to unprecedented defense aid to Ukraine, and stressed in particular that artillery ammunition is now “uncomfortably low”.
What’s more is that the shortfall will likely last into the future, given the norm is for new purchases and then manufacturers supplying the weapons to take a process of years.
“The U.S. has during the past six months supplied Ukraine with 16 U.S. rocket launchers, known as Himars, thousands of guns, drones, missiles and other equipment. While New York City signaled plenty of virtue over their “sanctuary city” status, the Big Apple failed to put their money where their mouth is when it comes to actual resources, and are currently drowning amid a surge in illegal immigrants after Texas began sending busloads of border crossers.
Department of Homeless Services tells the NY Post that it’s abandoned a plan to operate an intake and processing center for the new arrivals, alongside a 600-room shelter at the ROW NYC hotel on 8th Ave. in Midtown – a yet-to-open facility that was supposed to be up and running two weeks ago.
DHS also admitted that it has yet to select and rent any of the 5,000 hotel rooms the agency said it is seeking to house migrants across the city.
Instead, officials are continuing to commingle migrants with New Yorkers in the city’s existing shelter system — which now includes 15 “emergency” hotel facilities to also help handle a summer population surge, according to the DSS on Friday.
City Hall has refused to say how much the city is spending on housing migrants in the homeless-system hotels, but a Post analysis found the cost could surpass $300 million. -NY Post

Countries drafted joint non-paper about EU-Russia relations
Discussion paper proposes video bloggers offer media literacy
Germany and France want the European Union to drive a wedge between President Vladimir Putin and the Russian people with a campaign to counter propaganda within Russia and a visa policy that signals Europe is still open to ordinary citizens.
In a joint non-paper titled “Defending the international order in an age of systemic rivalry: EU-Russia relations,” France and Germany say the EU needs to continue exploring “creative ways” to allow for the dissemination of independent information to and within Russia, according to a copy of the document seen by Bloomberg. A non-paper is an unofficial document drafted by technical experts from EU member states for closed-door discussions.
The countries also call for open channels of communication with the Russian government, even as they urge broadening sanctions against Russian officials and continued financial and military support for Ukraine.
The paper was circulated to EU member states ahead of a gathering of foreign ministers in Prague on Tuesday and Wednesday, where they’ll discuss the topic of a visa ban for Russian tourists. Baltic states have been pushing to ban EU visas to Russian tourists, but German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has urged more caution.
The Franco-German paper stresses the “transformative power of experiencing life in democratic systems at first-hand,” adding the countries’ caution against far-reaching restrictions on visas, “in order to prevent feeding the Russian narrative and trigger unintended rallying-around the flag effects and/or estranging future generations.”
‘Technical Measures’
The plan to counter domestic propaganda could include using “technical measures against Russian censorship, i.e. via an Internet Censorship Circumvention Hub,” the paper says, as well as providing Russian language content for Russian speaking minorities abroad. Another suggestion includes funding media literacy courses in Russian that could be disseminated by video bloggers on YouTube, Facebook, TikTok, Telegram channels and Vkontakte, the paper says.
Meanwhile, the EU should “retain certain channels of communication with Russia” to minimize the risk of unintended escalation and ensure “a minimum of cooperation” in areas of overriding interest, such as at the UN Security Council or over a nuclear deal with Iran, the Franco-German document says.
French President Emmanuel Macron’s frequent phone calls with Putin previously drew criticism he was too soft on the Russian president. The French leader has since defended the efforts saying he had hoped to find a path forward with Putin “via trust and reasoning.”

New York City has been hit by spate of recent thefts by armed moped thieves who aggressively drive up onto city sidewalks and attack unsuspecting victims
Three of the most recent attacks happened over the weekend where thieves ripped a $12,000 Rolex watch from a man’s arm while he was walking in Chelsea and the very next day, two women walking near the Guggenheim Museum on the Upper East Side fought off thieves on a moped who tried to snatch their jewelry.

Major crime in NYC is on the rise with a 35 percent increase since the same time last year, according to NYPD data. Robberies, grand larcenies, and auto thefts fueling the crime wave.
This weekend’s moped attacks began on Friday when a 64-year-old man was ambushed as he was walking along West 23rd Street toward 7th Avenue in Chelsea around 1 p.m.
Video shows thieves on dirt bikes and a moped jumping the curb and cornering him on the sidewalk. One of the thieves then jumps off the bike and and forcibly grabs a $12,000 Rolex watch off the man’s wrist and then shoves him to the ground.
The man appears to be doing his best to hang on to the watch, but wasn’t able to stop the thief. The victim had minor cuts to his right arm and hand, but refused to be treated at the scene.
The next day, two more brazen attacks involving thieves on mopeds were reported in Manhattan – including one near one of the city’s most popular museums.

In an interview published last week by the German feminist magazine EMMA, Dr. Christiane Nüsslein-Volhard cited hard scientific facts to counter the trendy notion that there are multiple genders.

The COVID-19 pandemic has underscored the importance of strong national capacities for infectious disease surveillance, diagnosis, and response.
International cooperation and assistance play a critical role in building these capacities. Our governments have partnered openly and transparently through the Biological Threat Reduction Program, which is a part of the U.S. Department of Defense Cooperative Threat Reduction Program.
These partnerships are devoted exclusively to peaceful purposes; they have nothing to do with weapons.
These partnerships protect the health of humans and animals in our countries, including in the prevention, detection, and control of infectious disease outbreaks, and in enhancing laboratory biosafety and biosecurity.
As partners in this program, we each have firsthand knowledge of its relevance to our shared goal of cooperating to strengthen global health security and reduce the impacts of infectious diseases on our societies.
Our governments strongly affirm the common view that such cooperation should not be undermined, but rather promoted and reinforced.
Pursuant to Article X, we encourage all Biological Weapons Convention States Parties to work together, including at the forthcoming Review Conference, in support of this goal.

Another One: Poultry Processing Plant Catches Fire in Montebello, California (VIDEO)

A poultry processing plant in Montebello, California was caught on fire on Sunday.
A representative for the city of Montebello said that QC Poultry, located at 1111 W. Olympic Blvd., had building damaged and that numerous commercial cars may have been destroyed by fire, according to KTLA.
The fire was contained with the help of Montebello Fire and other mutual aid fire departments.
“Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 28, your [Montebello Fire Department] responded to a reported structure fire in the 1000 block of Olympic Blvd,” Montebello FD wrote on Instagram.

A federal court on Tuesday canceled a hearing over Trump election lawyer John Eastman’s attempt to reclaim his seized phone.
The court canceled the hearing after the corrupt Justice Department obtained a second search warrant which undermined Eastman’s case.
The hearing was set for September 6, 2022.
“Given that the Government has affirmed to the Court on the record that a warrant has been issued, the Court finds that Eastman cannot make a good faith argument that an evidentiary issue on the existence of warrant remains,” Judge Robert Brack, a George W. Bush appointee wrote.

This was after news broke on Monday that top FBI agent Tim Thibault, who opened the Trump investigation, was escorted from FBI headquarters on Friday.

Maria Bartiromo will be deposed in defamation case against Fox News
Maria Bartiromo will be the next Fox News star to appear for a deposition in Dominion Voting Systems’ defamation case against the network over its airing of false claims made about the company during 2020 presidential election coverage.
According to a filing in Superior Court in Delaware, Bartiromo is scheduled to give her deposition on Sept. 8 as the lawsuit filed last year by Dominion moves forward. The maker of electronic voting software and hardware headquartered in Toronto and Denver is seeking $1.6 billion in damages in the closely watched defamation case.
Bartiromo is anchor of “Mornings with Maria,” a daily program on Fox Business Network. She also hosts “Sunday Morning Futures,” one of the most watched weekend programs on Fox News.
She is among the Fox program hosts who allowed former President Trump’s allies and lawyers Rudolph W. Giuliani and Sidney Powell to promote disproven theories that the election was stolen with Dominion’s assistance in rigging the results.
Dominion’s lawsuit said Bartiromo continued to feature voter fraud claims made about the company “even though she had been specifically notified that independent fact-checkers, government officials and election security experts debunked those lies.”
Other Fox News personalities called to give depositions include prime-time star and Trump confidant Sean Hannity, who is scheduled to appear Wednesday, and the network’s top-rated provocateur, Tucker Carlson, who sat for questioning last week.
The court has also called Lou Dobbs, who is a named as a defendant. Dobbs is a former host of a nightly opinion program on Fox Business Network on which many conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 election were presented.
Meade Cooper, who oversees prime-time opinion programming on Fox News, has also been called, along with other executives.
Dominion has stated in court filings that it intends to show Rupert Murdoch and his son Lachlan, the top officers at Fox News parent Fox Corp., were allowing falsehoods about voter fraud on the network’s programming even though they knew that Trump had lost the election.
The Murdochs and Fox News Media Chief Executive Suzanne Scott have not yet been asked to appear for depositions.
Fox News is expected to counter that the news division’s reporting on the allegations of voter fraud leveled by Trump and his lawyers was newsworthy and protected by the 1st Amendment.
The government’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency found no evidence that voting systems in the 2020 election were compromised. Testimony in the Jan. 6 House select committee hearings has shown that numerous Trump aides and his attorney general, William Barr, saying the level of fraud needed to change the election’s outcome did not exist.
The question now circulating among current and former Fox News employees is whether the company will forgo paying hefty a settlement and be willing to go to trial. The company recently changed attorneys — hiring high-profile Chicago-based trial lawyer Dan Webb — an indication it is ready for that possibility.
The inherent risk in going to trial would be having Fox News personalities testify and likely questioned on internal emails and documents related to the conservative network’s programming procedures.
“We are confident we will prevail as freedom of the press is foundational to our democracy and must be protected, in addition to the damages claims being outrageous, unsupported and not rooted in sound financial analysis, serving as nothing more than a flagrant attempt to deter our journalists from doing their jobs,” Fox News said in a statement.
Fox News is also facing a $2.7-billion defamation suit from Smartmatic that says Fox presented false conspiracy theories and accusations about the company’s role in the election that damaged its reputation.

We will address some common misconceptions we noticed:
– Zaporozhie: The city is not under Russian Armed Forces control, only the nuclear power plant is — which carries the same name. (And its surroundings)
– HIMARS: there’s no such thing as a a “HIMARS type shell”, they’re just normal guided MLRS shells. There’s nothing special about the shell that makes it difficult to intercept. All MLRS are notoriously difficult to intercept due to the nature of their trajectory/approach to target.
– Russia is cut off from supplies in Kherson: – no. Russia is not Ukraine. You can’t completely cut them off from supplies. They don’t exclusively rely on land bridges like Ukraine does. They put down their own pontoon bridges when needed, they can also air lift equipment if necessary. It’s not an ideal situation but it’s not an isolating situation to them. Kherson can always be re-supplied through Crimea. This is the sole reason Russia rushed there in initial days, it’s strategically very important to control that border.
– Ukrainian command: there’s no such thing. NATO controls the war and the strategy. NATO advisors, NATO orders and NATO weapons, ex-NATO military personnel: from troops to officers are on the frontlines. This is not by coincidence.
– Arms control deal between Russia and US: such deals require trust. Russia does not trust the west anymore. They have publicly stated that. Therefore, the chances of a deal on arms control between the two countries are very, very slim.
– Kharkov is getting hit but no action— these statements are simply clueless. People do not realize the scale of this war. The equipment and fortifications are insane. This has never happened in history, positions with such fortifications have not been observed in any war in the past.
It takes pounding and pounding and pounding before the city is strategically weakened. Every hit costs hundreds of thousands of dollars, we can assure you that they’re all strategically dismantling Ukrainian positions.
