Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    Viva condemns the Alberta man who accosts Chrystia Freeland with expletives at the elevator. He says the man has set “the cause” back immensely by doing so, and has provided the enemy with ammo to counter attack. He says the man should have taken the opportunity to be more clever so to sway the middle ground demographic to our side. He says this from two thousand miles away because he, himself, found the political climate so corrupted and toxic in Canada that he fled to Florida for safety with his family. He may be right. After all, he is a lawyer. A two-thousand-mile-away lawyer, to boot.

    I ask only: when IS the right time for an emotional response? Is it before or after your grandmother is trampled by horses? Is it before or after you’ve lost your job because you refused the injection(s)? Is it before or after you lost a beloved friend or family member to an adverse reaction? Is it before or after you watched your child’s development retarded by masks and lockdowns? Is it before or after you and your wife split because of all the peripheral stress effects of governmental actions over the last two-plus years? Is it before or after your worries over the unknown actions of your government in the coming winter come to fruition, or do not? When is a hulking, blue-collar, law-abiding man who only feels every visceral effect of the lines of effort and dialectic negations mounted against him, but is not studied enough to articulate these feelings, supposed to get emotional when opportunity presents him with a chance to speak to his oppressor?

    After all, the truckers were peaceful and articulate, but where did it get them? Their leaders have been suffering tax-payer sponsored lawfare ever since. And now we see Dear Leader making the big pivot to the climate-change line of effort, aka narrative, which will undoubtedly have catastrophic economic and financial consequences for every Canadian.

    If not now, then when? When we are all two-thousand miles away? The man accomplished less than nothing, Viva says. But, I ask, what did Romanians accomplish in 1989? What happened when they saw their brothers, sisters and neighbors protesting against all odds, and all government brutality, in the public square? What happened was the realization that they were not alone and that their numbers were great enough, their desperation dire enough, and that they had nothing left to lose, enough. Their revolution ran on emotion because no amount of talk was going to effect change from the dictator. And yes, Desmet makes the case that what we have now is authoritarianism because the people are compliant. Is this the same middle-ground demographic that Viva wants to come to our rescue like a white knight? Well sorry, Viva, but they’re a big part of the problem.

      Trudeau reacted to video circulating on social media of a man verbally attacking Chrystia Freeland in Grande Prairie, Alta. this past week, saying Sunday that it was “cowardly behaviour.”

      Trudeau went on to say people in public life are being subjected to harassment and threats at an increasing rate — even more frequently with specific groups, “particularly women, racialized Canadians, people of minority or different community groups… because of the increasing strength of your voices, your positions, the impact you’re having around the world.”

      The prime minister called on political leaders to take a stance against these kinds of attacks.

  5. CBC – Acadie Nouvelle cartoon sparks backlash over depiction of Muslims

    A controversial cartoon published in New Brunswick’s largest French-language newspaper is prompting pushback over how it portrays Muslims.

    The cartoon, published in the Aug. 17 edition of l’Acadie Nouvelle, shows a caveman dragging a woman by her hair. Below is an illustration of a man wearing a turban and carrying a gun, using a leash to drag a woman wearing a burqa.

    “Evolution?…” is written above the cartoon.

    The National Council of Canadian Muslims issued a statement calling the cartoon Islamophobic and said it spreads stereotypes that “fuel widespread hatred.”

    Lina El Bakir, the organization’s Quebec and francophone community advocacy officer, said she was appalled to see the illustration.

    “We thought that kind of stereotypical and harmful imagery was something of the past and as a country we were past that,” she said. “and that’s really frustrating.”

    El Bakir said the cartoon is being circulated and is iimpacting the Muslim community across Canada.

    “It feeds into a narrative that is destructive,” she said.

    Newspaper explains

    Francis Sonier, the Acadie Nouvelle editor and managing director, declined an interview but said in a statement the cartoon was in response to a news story about the Taliban.

    On Aug. 16, the paper published an Associated Press story about life in Afghanistan one year after the return of Taliban rule. The article was accompanied by a photo showing fighters holding guns and celebrating their return to power.

    The next day, l’Acadie Nouvelle published the cartoon by Marcel Boudreau.

    Sonier said the cartoon was removed from the website, because readers pointed out a lack of context. The news article was only available in the print edition.

    “The cartoon aimed to denounce the behaviour of the Taliban in a specific region of the world, Afghanistan. Nothing else,” he said.

    Boudreau could not be reached for comment.

    Activists speak out

    Local activists in Moncton held a news conference on Tuesday to speak out about the cartoon.

    Paryse Suddith, a lawyer with the non-profit Old River Productions and Legal Services, said she felt “shame” after seeing it was printed as the newspaper’s cartoon of the day.

    “People are going to think that people who wear turbans are all violent and are always oppressive against their wives,” Suddith said. “Is this the kind of message that the Acadians want people to think that we think?

    “The image to me was Islamophobia.”

    Suddith said she has requested a meeting with Acadie Nouvelle editors to discuss the cartoon.

    ‘Quite disgusted’

    Inda Intiar, a Moncton resident, said she was initially shocked and angry to see the illustration had been published.

    “I also felt quite disgusted,” she told Shift NB. “I just feel there’s so much conversation about all of these lenses of anti-racism, equity inclusion, yet here we are with a cartoon like this getting published.”

    Intiar wrote a letter to the editor in response and is arranging a meeting with the newspaper’s editors. She said her biggest concern is that the cartoon contributes to existing harmful narratives.

    “People have so many different lived experiences and I think we have to be not just respectful of that but also mindful of the impact of the work that we publish,” she said.

    An estimated six hundred men and women remain incarcerated for protesting the stolen election on Capitol Hill on January 6. Many of them are out of jail and awaiting trial. Many of them are sitting in prison awaiting trial in front of crooked, biased judges and juries in Washington DC.

    Most of the January 6 defendants are being denied due process, have yet to be convicted of a crime and languish in solitary confinement on misdemeanor charges as they lose their livelihoods waiting month after month for a judge to begin to adjudicate their case.

    A court in South Africa has ruled that singing „Kill the Boer! Kill the Farmer!“ is not Hate Speech. The civil rights organization AfriForum will appeal the case.

    AfriForum had sued the radical Marxist “Economic Freedom Fighters” and their leader Julius Malema, who sing the so-called “Struggle Songs” to stoke racial hatred against white farmers.

    The Equality Court in Johannesburg ruled on Thursday, Aug. 25, that singing “Kill the Boer!” is not Hate Speech, because it “deserves to be protected under the rubric of freedom of speech,” ruled Judge Edwin Molahlehi. EFF supporters sang the song outside the court to raise racial tensions.

    At least one media channel in Australia is more honest than the US media.

    Senile, mean, and corrupt Joe Biden held a ‘rally’ produced by the Democrat establishment to make it look like some people out there really like him. No doubt the participants were bused in and probably paid. There were enough participants to fill the pictures and that was about it.

    The event was in a small portion of a high school gym with a set to make it look like a Trump rally with tens of thousands of participants. The sound was louder than the crowd so that appeared to be pumped in too.

    On Tuesday, a pilot reportedly “fainted” at 30,000 feet, prompting the plane to make an emergency landing in Greece, according to reports.

    A Jet2 flight from Birmingham, England to Antalya, Turkey, made an emergency landing in Greece due to what the airline called a “medical emergency,” according to Birmingham Live.

    One fuming passenger claimed the ordeal had delayed the start of their holiday by eight hours. They said their family of four was given a €15 euro voucher each which covered a “basic meal,” the outlet reported. According to passengers, Jet2 does not compensate for delays due to medical emergencies.

    The flight was rerouted as a “precautionary measure,” according to a representative from Jet2.

    Per a press release out this morning, more than 37,000 affidavits were delivered to the Gwinnett Country, Georgia Election Board challenging voter rolls and the handling of the 2020 Election. These affidavits included 20,000 from the 2020 Election.

    These affidavits prove that the 2020 Election never should have been certified in Georgia.

    A stunning total of 37,500 affidavits are delivered to the Gwinnett County Board of Elections office in challenge of the voter rolls and handling of the 2020 Election. These affidavits include 20,000 challenges to actual votes that were certified just after the 2020 election. The submitted affidavits only include Gwinnett County vote challenges. Still, the number far exceeds the Presidential spread for the entire state of Georgia and confirms the 2020 election should not have been certified!

    Joe Biden on Friday referred to Trump supporters as “semi-Fascists.”

    Our old “friend” Muqtada al Sadr aka Mookie announced he is withdrawing from Iraqi politics and his supporters stormed the Presidential Palace in the Green Zone and are threatening the U.S. Embassy. The situation is chaotic. There are some reports that the United States Embassy is being evacuated via helicopters. There is a contradictory report claiming the Americans are still hunkered down in the Embassy.

    Mookie is an Iraqi Shia cleric. Although he received support from Iran in the past, he is notorious for his independent streak and, when convenient, thumbing his nose at the Mullahs in Tehran. Want makes this current dust up so interesting is that it pits Iraqi Shia loyal to Sadr against other Iraqi Shia’s who don’t follow Mookie. If you recall, Iraq is a majority Shia country and some of those Shia are aligned with Iran.

    The Iraqi Government has imposed an immediate curfew in Baghdad. Remains to be seen if the Government has the ability to enforce it and quell the uprising. Mookie’s supporters claim they have seized 6 Government buildings in Baghdad. Sort of looks like a coup.

    The FDA and vaccine makers say they are confident that shots targeting Omicron subvariants will work safely

    The Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize new Covid-19 booster shots this week without a staple of its normal decision-making process: data from a study showing whether the shots were safe and worked in humans.

    The shots, modified to target the latest versions of the Omicron variant, won’t have finished testing in humans when the FDA makes its decisions.

    Instead, the agency plans to assess the shots using data from other sources such as research in mice, the profiles of the original vaccines and the performance of earlier iterations of boosters targeting older forms of Omicron.

  22. Justice Department tells judge it already reviewed Trump documents
    The DOJ said their team went through the materials before the court called for an independent special master

    The Justice Department announced in a court filing Monday that they already reviewed documents seized from former President Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago, and that they identified a “limited set” of documents that could include information protected by attorney-client privilege.

    The DOJ said they would provide more information in a separate filing, but said that prior to the court issuing a preliminary order to appoint a special master to go through the documents, a privilege review team went through the documents. A special master is an independent, court-appointed individual who in this case would be placed in charge of reviewing documents. A privilege review team consists of federal personnel not involved with the investigation itself, whose role is to sift out privileged information.

    “[T]he Privilege Review Team … identified a limited set of materials that potentially contain attorney-client privileged information, completed its review of those materials, and is in the process of following the procedures set forth in paragraph 84 of the search warrant affidavit to address potential privilege disputes, if any,” the DOJ filing said. Those procedures included asking the court to make a determination on potentially privileged material, asking Trump’s team if they are asserting privilege, or acting on its own and keeping the material away from

    Austria said on Monday it is preparing to pump billions of euros into the electricity company that supplies much of Vienna after a price surge on power markets left it unable to afford the guarantees needed to cover market transactions.

    Wien Energie, which is owned by the City of Vienna, asked the federal government for help at the weekend and the city has identified an “acute financing need” of 6 billion euros($6 billion), the finance ministry said in a statement.

    “The federal government has the instruments and the will to help the City of Vienna in this financial emergency. It is about ensuring security of supply for two million people, which must happen,” the ministry said, adding that talks were ongoing and there remained “many questions”.

    The ministry said it was considering a loan worth billions of euros, to be handled by the Federal Financing Agency that issues government bonds and other debt instruments.

    Wien Energie pointed to a “sudden explosion” in the European power price on Friday – to 1,000 euros from 700 per megawatt-hour (MWh) – that it said increased the size of the guarantees required on the market, even for contracts concluded in the past where delivery is pending.

    Wien Energie sells power futures, contracts to supply power it will generate in as much as two years’ time, while also buying power and gas on the market in long-term deals, it said in a statement. Most of its power generation comes from gas-fired plants.

    “Wien Energie and (its parent company) Wiener Stadtwerke are solid, economically healthy companies with excellent credit ratings. No losses need to be covered,” the company said.

    As Austria’s biggest energy provider by number of customers and the one with the biggest gas-fuelled plants, it is the hardest-hit by market-price pressure, it added.

    The sharp rise in wholesale prices for gas and electricity has put the supplier Wien Energie in financial difficulties, according to Austria’s Finance Minister Magnus Brunner (ÖVP).

    “Vienna Energy approached us over the weekend with the request that we meet urgently because they have fallen into a financial emergency,” the minister told ZIB2 on Sunday.

    On Monday, the Ministry of Finance released a statement explaining the situation. The ministry said that Wien Energie still has sufficient financial resources to secure future supply contracts, but it would need €6 billion to “conclude transactions on the energy exchange”.

    What does that mean?

    Wien Energie also released a statement on its social media, saying it is not “insolvent/bankrupt”.

    The company, which is state-owned by the City of Vienna, said that to ensure customers’ supply, it carries out trading transactions on energy exchanges. But, like all other stock exchange participants, it has to pay a “security deposit”.

    This is where the firm has run into trouble. “Because electricity prices exploded again across Europe on Friday, these necessary security measures have increased unexpectedly,” the firm said.

    That means that as prices sharply rose, the payment it needed to participate in trading also escalated.

    However, Wien Energie added, this “collateral” it needs to pay “comes back once the trades are settled”, just like a security deposit would.

    “Wien Energie & Wiener Stadtwerke are solid, economically healthy companies with excellent credit ratings,” the company added.

    Why does Wien Energie trade in the energy market?

    Energy is traded on the European stock exchange, where companies can make transactions in the “futures market”. This basically means that you can buy and sell energy today, but the actual delivery will only take place in the future.

    Wien Energie sells electricity from its power plants up to two years in advance while it buys electricity and gas on the stock exchange for its customers in the long term, the company explained. It does that to protect itself – at least to a certain point – against future price fluctuations.

    Trading in futures allows the company to close a deal at a specific price, even if the product will only be delivered years later. This way, Wien Energie (and other companies that do the same) can estimate energy prices for customers and power plants for the next few years.

    “This increases planning security and is a proven tool for risk management in the energy sector,” the company added.

    When prices explode, however, like what happened last week, as the cost of electricity in retail rose from €700 to around €1,000 in just one day, the security deposit to participate in those trades also went up.

    What will happen next?

    The talks between the federal government and Vienna are still ongoing.

    “In any case, the federal government has the instruments and the will to help the city of Vienna in this financial emergency. It is about the security of supply for two million people, which must be guaranteed.”, the Finance Ministry said.

    It added that it is considering a loan “in the billions”, which the Austrian Federal Financing Agency would handle.

    On the other hand, if Wien Energie doesn’t make the payments, it would likely be excluded from the stock exchange trading, leading “reversal of its business, which would lead to the energy supply contracts of two million customers being endangered”, the federal government said.

    Austria’s largest energy supplier, Wien Energie faces financial turmoil due to massive inflation in the country. The company is due to repay between EUR 1.7 and 1.8 billion and needs collateral.

    Austrian media outlet ‘Heute’ reported that it came as somewhat of a surprise to the Austrian public when a crisis summit on energy prices was suddenly announced on Sunday morning. The meeting was to take place in the Chancellor’s Office on the same day.

    ‘Heute’ stated that Wien Energie’s financial situation has become tumultuous due to the immense inflation on the electricity market. Between EUR 1.7 and 1.8 billion had to be deposited by the City of Vienna subsidiary at the beginning of the week – and it could no longer cope on its own.

    Since the electricity prices in the wholesale sector (where Vienna has to buy energy) have soared, the securities are no longer sufficient. Now the federal government has to help out, ‘Heute’ reported. Around two million customers are under contract with Wien Energie – so Finance Minister Magnus Brunner will probably have to set up a rescue parachute scheme.

    Wien Energie: “Not bankrupt”

    Wien Energie stated on Sunday evening that it was “not insolvent/bankrupt”, but due to the explosion in electricity prices across Europe, the “necessary security payments had risen [to an] unforeseen [amount]. Wien Energie & Wiener Stadtwerke are solid, economically sound companies with top credit ratings.”

    Wien Energie announced several weeks ago that there would be massive increases in electricity and gas prices for customers from 1 September. For a household customer with an electricity consumption of 2,000 kWh per year, the price adjustment means additional monthly costs of about 36 euros. For gas, about twice that amount will be due.

    The Northern York County School District said in a statement that they granted permission for “the Satanic Temple to use our facility as we were required to do so by Board policy No. 707.”

    “As a public school district, the use of our school facilities must be permitted without discrimination,” the school district’s statement continued. “We cannot and do not arbitrarily pick and choose which organization may or may not use our facilities.
