Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    A National Guard member who was only 17 years old died after she collapsed while participating in military training at Fort Jackson in South Carolina last weekend.

    Pennsylvania Army National Guard Pvt. Alyssa Cahoon, who was training at Fort Jackson reportedly with her twin sister Brianna, died on Thursday after suffering an undisclosed medical episode during physical training on August 20.

    Bell Media’s vice president of news Michael Melling will be taking leave from the company following the exit of Lisa LaFlamme, according to an internal memo obtained by Global News.

    In the memo, Karine Moses, senior vice president of content development and news, said Melling “has decided to leave from his current role effective immediately to spend time with his family.”

    The news comes just weeks after LaFlamme, the long-time anchor of CTV National News announced she would be leaving the network. At the time, Bell Media said the move was a “business decision.”

    The Ukrainian operator over Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, which is Europe’s largest, is warning Saturday of the risk of a radioactive leak at the site, which since March has been occupied by some 500 Russian troops.

    “As a result of periodic shelling, the infrastructure of the station has been damaged, there are risks of hydrogen leakage and sputtering of radioactive substances, and the fire hazard is high,” Energoatom said on Telegram.

    After Thursday the plant was cut off from the electrical grid for the first time it its history, which was subsequently restored hours later, there’s been growing international alarm over the potential for a Chernobyl-style disaster.

    Energoatom further claimed that Russian troops “repeatedly shelled” key infrastructure at the plant – a charge rejected by Moscow. Instead Russia’s defense ministry countered that it was the Ukrainian side that “shelled the territory of the station three times” in the past day, saying “a total of 17 shells were fired.”

    The agency further warned the plant “operates with the risk of violating radiation and fire safety standards” – in the statement which came midday Saturday (local time).

    Ukrainian authorities are calling for international intervention due to the continued instability of the situation. “Due to the presence of the Russian military, their weapons, equipment and explosives at the power plant, there are serious risks for the safe operation of the ZNPP,” Energoatom said.

    “Ukraine calls on the world community to take immediate measures to force Russia to liberate the ZNPP and transfer the power plant to the control of our country for the sake of the security of the whole world,” it added.

  27. Three Dutch Soldiers Shot at Indiana Hotel While in US for Military Exercise

    Three Dutch soldiers were shot outside a hotel in Indiana while in the United States for a military training exercise.
    The shooting took place on Saturday morning in downtown Indianapolis.

    The Dutch Ministry of Defense said in a statement that one of the soldiers is in critical condition, while the other two are “conscious and approachable,” according to a report from Newsweek. However, the Indianapolis Police Department said that two of the soldiers were in critical condition and the third was stable,” the Associated Press reports.

    “Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived and transported the three victims to an area hospital. Two of the victims are listed in critical condition and the third victim is listed in stable condition,” the department said.

    Starting all the way back in April, some US defense officials had been expressing concern that Ukraine weapons shipments sent from Washington were entering a big “black hole” once they cross the border into the conflict – given there appeared little to no oversight or accountability in terms of arms and serial number tracking.

    Ukrainian government officials have taken pains to to try and assure Western allies and international press that they are indeed carefully monitoring the weapons and munitions provided from allies, also to ensure they don’t end up on the black market or in the hands of unauthorized militants or terrorists.

    But now we have the closest thing thus far to confirmation that indeed there’s a lack of necessary oversight, given on Thursday the Pentagon’s acting Inspector General Sean O’Donnell told Bloomberg that while he believes Ukrainian forces are using up all that they’ve been given by the US, it remains that there’s little “fidelity” as to where the weapons actually end up. This is due in large part, he explained, to the Ukrainians tracking external arms via hand receipts.

    I wrote recently about my optimism that tort law would provide, in the not distant future, a corrective to the current madness of trans medicine. That includes the too-quick determination that children should be, on the basis of questionable science, slip-streamed into taking puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones and later, irreversible surgery. Civil litigation will likely put the brakes on trans medicine; in the U.K., it’s doing just that

    But perhaps the main obstacle U.S. litigants face is the American Academy of Pediatrics that, in a 2018 position paper, stamped its enthusiastic imprimatur on medical transitioning. How can a plaintiff prevail against a physician who points to the “best practices” endorsed by the most respected body in the land regarding children’s medicine?

    Well, we’re now beginning to learn just how fragile the AAP’s “consensus” on trans medicine is. This Quillette piece and this one in the Daily Mail give us the latest.

    Members of the 67,000-member organization are beginning to sharply question the AAP’s stance on transitioning and are finding their questions stonewalled by AAP leadership.     In her recent guest essay in the New York Times, former Times reporter and columnist Linda Greenhouse accuses Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito of weaponizing religious liberty. In reality, Alito merely issued a plea that religious liberty is provided “special protection” promised by the Constitution. It appears Greenhouse actually believes religious liberty should be relegated to a lower tier status than other rights. Doing so would do serious damage to our Constitution and to the fundamental rights millions of Americans enjoy under its protection.

    To support her claims, Greenhouse takes aim squarely at the role religious liberty plays in America, including references to several recent Supreme Court decisions. For instance, she describes the court’s decision upholding the right of a high school football coach to offer a brief, personal prayer after football games as “astonishing.” The case, Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, is indeed astonishing. But not for the reasons Greenhouse asserts.
