This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

He explains how the USD is rising because emerging market countries borrowed to buy basic commodities in USD because the interest rate was less than in their own currencies, then the Fed began to tighten against inflation which caused rates to rise. This is causing pain and default (Sri Lanka) in these markets.

      The article is good and everyone should read it, if anything the man is understating how bad things are going to get. I doubt it will be a full Mad Max situation but things are going to get bad, especially in the big cities and the suburbs. During the last round of riots we saw suburban neighborhoods forming neighborhood protection groups to keep the rioters away from the neighborhood. In a few years this form of protection will become common.

      This will be done all around the world, not just I’m the US. The worlds economy is so integrated that every nation is going to go down. This combined with the water and food shortages are going to create internal and external violence. Putting it another way the Food and Water wars are about to start.

      Sales of Pfizer’s antiviral drug Paxlovid have leapfrogged a rival pill developed by Merck and now dominate the Covid-19 treatments market, but slower than expected patient uptake could dent sales over the next six months and beyond.

      Airfinity, a health data analytics group, said recent data showed the whirlwind pace of new supply deals Pfizer signed had begun to slow because of the lacklustre rollout of a treatment billed as a key tool to help quell the pandemic.

      By the end of 2022 there could be a surplus of up to 70mn courses of Paxlovid on the global market following an increase in Pfizer’s production and weak demand for a treatment that US president Joe Biden is taking to fight his Covid infection.

      Paxlovid, a course of 30 pills taken over five days, is one of the fastest selling medicines in history. Pfizer is forecasting annual sales of $22bn this year because of a surge in initial government purchases.

      But Airfinity said a lack of public awareness about the availability of Paxlovid, concerns among doctors about how the drug interacts with other medicines and inadequate Covid testing in some countries was limiting demand and would hold back future sales.

      Merck would struggle to sign new contracts for its rival antiviral pill Lagevrio because clinical trials show it cut the risk of hospital admission by 30 per cent, compared with 89 per cent for Paxlovid, according to a report due to be published on Monday.

      The downbeat sales forecast could pose challenges for Pfizer and Merck, which had hoped the drugs would provide a sustained revenue boost for the duration of the pandemic. It may also lead to a global supply glut of antivirals, mirroring a trend in the Covid-19 vaccine market, which is experiencing weaker than anticipated demand.

      Harry Cheeld, Airfinity analyst, said slower uptake of Paxlovid would reduce the number of repeat purchases by governments as they would not now run low on stock in 2022. Pfizer could revisit its bullish manufacturing plans to tackle any supply glut, he added.

      Pfizer has said it plans to produce 120mn courses of Paxlovid in 2022 but Airfinity estimates patient demand this year of 50mn courses. Merck plans to produce 30mn courses of Lagevrio by the end of the year but demand is forecast at half this level.

      Take up of both antiviral treatments is highest in the US, with 2.5mn courses of Paxlovid and just over 385,000 courses of Lagevrio prescribed since the treatments were launched in late 2021. But uptake in Europe and the rest of the world is lagging behind, with 10,000 courses of Paxlovid prescribed in Germany and 28,000 in Italy.

      Airfinity estimates Pfizer will generate $23.2bn in sales of Paxlovid in 2022, down from a forecast of $23.6bn made three months ago. Merck sales of Lagevrio are estimated at $5.8bn, compared with earlier estimates of $6.4bn. Sales of a third antiviral made by Japanese pharma company Shionogi are estimated at $0.5bn, down from $2.5bn, because of delays in the approval of the treatment.

      Andrew Hill, senior visiting research fellow in the department of pharmacology and therapeutics at the University of Liverpool, said the pathway for patients getting on either Paxlovid or Lagevrio within the recommended five days of a coronavirus infection was hard because of inadequate testing and a requirement in many nations to obtain a prescription from a doctor.

      “Now within that five days, you think about the pathway to care. Somebody’s got to realise the symptoms of Covid, go get a lateral flow test, get a doctor, get a prescription, and also they’re going to have a detailed check of all these drug interactions. That’s not simple,” he said.


      Most of the Paxlovid and Lagevrio ordered by the UK at a cost of £2bn would probably never be used,       added Hill.

      Pfizer said any updates on future projections for Paxlovid would be made at its quarterly earnings on July 28.

      “We are delivering on our commitments for Paxlovid, which already is having a positive impact on the lives of patients around the world, while continuing our discussions with governments and regulatory agencies around the world about bringing this potential breakthrough treatment to additional markets,” it said.

      Merck said Lagevrio was an important treatment option for appropriate patients and the company has supplied more than 8mn courses to governments in over 30 markets. In addition, more than 3mn courses were supplied by licensed generic manufacturers to low- and middle-income countries in the first quarter of this year, the company added.

      A Montevideo Court of Appeals Tuesday reversed a previous decision by a lower court halting vaccination of children aged between 5 and 13 years against COVID-19, Health Minister Daniel Salinas announced. The administration of these drugs will be resumed Thursday without prior appointments needed.

      Judge Alejandro Recarey, who was on duty during the judiciary winter recess, had ordered July 7 to suspend “provisionally and temporarily” the use of these chemicals until “all the contracts for the purchase of these vaccines are published in full,” a “the composition of the substances to be inoculated,” and “a text is drafted to be provided to those responsible for the minors – that fully and clearly informs” of the possible adverse effects of these medications.

      The Executive appealed this ruling. Tuesday’s decision is final, meaning there are no higher courts for appeals to go on.

      The Appellate Court found that the plaintiff, lawyer Maximiliano Dentone, lacked standing to seek an injunction and that Recarey’s sentence had stepped onto the “spheres of other branches of government.”

      In other words, the higher court’s ruling was grounded on technicalities and did not delve into the alleged side effects of the drugs or the irregularities in the contracts that Dentone had invoked. “It does not seem reasonable that any subject can appear claiming to represent the diffuse interests of all children under thirteen years of age, taking into account the nature and entity of the rights involved,” Tuesday’s ruling argued.

      “Vaccines save lives,” Health Undersecretary José Luis Satdjian celebrated on Twitter, while Salinas thanked the Ministry’s Legal team. Presidential Deputy Secretary Rodrigo claimed that “Justice prevailed.”

      Presidential Secretary Álvaro Delgado, who had described Recarey’s ruling as “nonsense,” stressed that vaccination “should not have been stopped,” while Defense Minister Javier García concurred: “Justice, common sense and science prevailed” against “an inexplicable ruling that took away children’s rights to protect their health.”

    A few months back, precious metals expert and financial writer Bill Holter predicted the economy was going to tank, and today, the U.S. is officially in a recession. Just the Silver Eagle portion of the deal was 650,000 coins, which was only part of the $50 million deal. Only $27 million of that could be bought in U.S. incremented silver coins. (The rest was used to buy gold U.S. coins.) Holter says that cleared out the wholesale market for U.S. silver coins, including so-called junk silver. Holter contends, “That shows you how thin it really is. By the way, a fair portion, 15% or so, was future deliveries from the mint.     Two black teenage girls have been arrested for a hate crime after brutally attacking a 57-year-old white woman on a New York City bus.
    The New York City Police Department arrested a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl for the attack on Tuesday morning.
    The victim, Jill LeCroix, has three bi-racial children and is a grandmother of five.

    Both of the girls are charged with two counts of assault while carrying out a hate crime and aggravated harassment while carrying out a hate crime. Their names have not been made public due to their ages.

    Following the Uvalde, Texas, mass shooting, Delaware’s Democratic Party — which controls the offices of governor, secretary of state, attorney general, and both chambers of the state’s legislature — rushed through nine gun-control bills in response. They largely ignored not only protections guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, but also broader protections guaranteed by Article 1, Section 20 of the Delaware Constitution: “A person has the right to keep and bear arms for the defense of self, family, home and State, and for hunting and recreational use.”

    No lawmakers were present in parliament when the protesters penetrated the capital’s high-security Green Zone, home to government buildings and diplomatic missions, on Wednesday.

    Only security forces were inside the building and they appeared to allow the protesters in with relative ease.

    Graham Phillips was condemned in April for filming an interview with captured British national Aiden Aslin.

    He was banned from Ukraine in 2014, but managed to return to the country shortly after Russian forces launched their invasion in February.

    He is one of 42 people named in the latest round of sanctions.

    They include leaders of the so-called Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics and 29 regional governors across Russia.

    The move means that Mr Phillips – who says he largely relies on crowdfunding and is currently in the Donbas region of Ukraine – will have his assets frozen in the UK.

    Cass County and Alcona County GOP in Michigan voted this week to reject and rescind the 2020 presidential election.

    The two Michigan counties joined the Texas GOP, the Maricopa County GOP, Arizona GOP, Montana GOP and several Wisconsin counties in recognizing the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent and stolen.

    Recently Landglade, Winnebego, Iowa and Calument Counties in Wisconsin voted to the desertification of the 2020 presidential election.

    Republicans in Ravalli and Lewis and Clark Counties in Montana rejected the 2020 election results earlier this month.

    The New York City Police Department arrested a 15-year-old girl and a 16-year-old girl for the attack on Tuesday morning.

    The victim, Jill LeCroix, has three bi-racial children and is a grandmother of five.
