Reader’s Links for January 24, 2022

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • Thanks Kojo for this.

In fact I was just wondering yesterday about a certain phenomenon. I saw a man walking alone down the street wearing an N95. These things are not comfortable. And then I thought about what that Belgian fellow Mattias Desmet has to say about Mass-Line Formation.

What becomes of this masked man, I wondered, in a post-Covid world? This lingering, but exhausted, medical theater does not die quickly, does it? Despite all the science telling him he is not under mortal danger he remains in obedient drag, so to speak. As does this Quebec journalist. The mass-line trance, hypnosis, psychosis, collective mania, or whatever you may call it, doesn’t hold Florida captive because the State does not push it! Mass-line formation does not happen without State input of the narrative that objectifies a target for the free-floating anxiety. The Warsaw Ghetto would not have occurred without the state narrative drilling into peoples’ heads the fictitious dangers of the dirty, diseased Jew. The difference between that mass-line formation and this mass-line formation is that this one has not yet formed to the point where it can convince people that a final solution for the unvaxxed is necessary. Yet knowing Dear Leader as we do, it’s a safe bet that he would, and will, if he can. I am sure it will all fall apart before that point.

The culture shock this Quebec journalist, and the masked man on the street share, is that their State gave them symptomatic comfort by tethering their free-floating anxiety, but in a not so anxious Florida the tether is proven absurd, and back in Canada it is becoming absurd because of the State narrative is failing. So I would ask Mr. Desmet if I could, what rehabilitates the hypnotized? Or does it simply wear off as they return to reality? How can we speed up the process?

Also, the government of Dystopia, its leader and its paid-for media are quantifiably culpable for their part in our mass-line formation. The CBC at very least should be dismantled after this psychological crime against the Canadian people is laid bare in a court of law.

      • In the court of law?

In Canada, judges are appointed from only the lawyers who have proven their loyalty to the Liberal Party of Canada.

        International court?

        All globalist shills.

Courts – on any level – will not give Canadians any relief or justice.

        • Maybe you’re correct, but if rule of law is completely gone what are you fighting for?

          • Kith and Kin.

When your back’s against the wall, when the enemy’s at your door and the lies have no thrall, then you will know your kith and kin, for spirit is all.

  1. Headline: “Unearthed: The secret behind America’s most terrifying killing spree. Seventeen innocents were seemingly slaughtered at random… but a major documentary series uncovers the real motive of the shootings that shocked the world 20 years ago”
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10433345/Unearthed-secret-Americas-terrifying-killing-spree.html

If the two murderers had been, WHITE, CIS-GENDER, CHRISTIAN then this would have been emblazoned. Instead, the hidden surprise is the intentionally benign oxymoron ‘gay lovers’.

“The big-budget six-part series, more than four years in the making and including interviews with up to 300 people, reveals for the first time that the two men were gay lovers. The motivation for the killings was the older man’s obsession with getting revenge on his ex-wife for his defeat in a custody battle”.

I had a conversation yesterday with a man in his sixties, who cannot cope with being male. He still competes with his brother over who has age-privilege, a childhood competition of the older sibling’s birthright. This stress of competition, that also applies to being superior over women, has found relief in cross-dressing to become a new person, as a female. With their maleness totally gone in their head, there is no stress. A strain pacified until it snaps.

And so being ‘gay’ performs the same Smolletization of avoiding a curse to receive a blessing.

    Then the killing begins.

As sure as islam and communism.

    • I had a conversation today with an ex-drug addict, who now works for an organization helping people come off drugs. He ran a men’s group and I was interested in his thoughts.

For him, it was to first recognize he had a problem. And then to learn to avoid the triggers that tempted him. An ex-drug addict for life.

He had explored mindfulness as a calming method of distraction.

My interest was not to know his knowledge, but how much of a child remained in him to speak to the child of others.

Because, a cross-dresser feels the fabric, hears the shimmer, smells the perfume, tastes the lipstick – locked in their mindfulness. But in time, this fades, and the more extreme and flamboyant it becomes. And socialists rescue: to give him a fake pronoun and put a gun at heads of the people who don’t believe.

The ex-drug addict needs to still be able to take the drug, but now like the child they once were, remember exactly how unpleasant it was and grieve at the temptation that once compelled them. No longer an ex-drug addict.

  6. NYT – Eco-Leftists and the Far Right: Vaccine Mandate Forges Unlikely Coalition of Protesters in Germany

The prospect of a vaccine mandate has galvanized a nationwide protest movement attracting naturalists, neo-Nazis and ordinary citizens alike.

NUREMBERG, Germany — Maria Liebermann came wrapped in fairy lights and waved a peace flag featuring a white dove. Martin Schmidt carried a Germany flag with the word RESIST scrawled across it in capital letters.

She is a self-described “eco-leftist.” He votes for the far-right Alternative for Germany. They disagree on everything from immigration to climate change, but on a recent Monday they marched side by side against the prospect of a general Covid vaccine mandate, shouting “Freedom!”

At the start of the pandemic, Germany was widely lauded as a model of unity in combating the coronavirus. A general trust in government encouraged citizens to comply with lockdowns, mask guidance and social distancing restrictions.

But that confidence in the authorities has steadily waned as the pandemic enters its third year and the fight has shifted toward vaccines, exposing deep rifts in German society and setting back efforts to combat Covid cases.

Plans by the new German chancellor, Olaf Scholz, to make the vaccine mandatory have galvanized a nationwide protest movement, mobilizing tens of thousands in marches in cities and villages every week even as Covid cases surge to new highs with the spread of the Omicron variant.

Germany, with a vaccination rate of 69 percent, has the largest share of unvaccinated people among big Western European nations, and its organized resistance to vaccines may be more pronounced than anywhere else in Europe.

Most Germans back not just vaccinations but also a vaccine mandate, but the opposition has forged an alliance of strange bedfellows that stretches across the political spectrum. Much of its center of gravity remains on the far right, giving new momentum to the Alternative for Germany, or AfD, a party best known for its anti-immigrant views.

But the opposition is not limited to an extremist fringe. Anti-vax nationalists, neo-Nazis and hooligans are joined by hippies, so-called esoterics and many ordinary citizens spooked by two years of lockdowns, curfews and the prospect of a mandate.

They can all be found, sometimes marching just a few feet apart, from Berlin and Hamburg in the north to Stuttgart and Munich in the south, and across towns and villages in east and west alike. This past week, some 100,000 protested, according to police estimates, in hundreds of decentralized demonstrations.

The diversity of the anti-vax movement was on display one recent Monday night in the Bavarian city of Nuremberg, where the crowd wound its way through the city center, banging drums, blowing whistles and, in at least one case, offering “cosmic energy” to bystanders.

There were naturalists and a smattering of neo-Nazis — men holding up placards against the “Great Reset,” code for antisemitic conspiracy theories — as well as plenty of families with children, and retirees carrying their own hand-drawn signs.

“We are no guinea pigs,” one sign read. “Hands off our children,” read another. One slogan that featured prominently: “Freedom, liberty and democracy.”

Ms. Liebermann, a 64-year-old retired physiotherapist, was among the demonstrators, blowing kisses to people watching the march from their windows.

“We are standing up for our constitutional rights,” she said. “A vaccine is an invasion of bodily integrity. It’s perverse that the state, which is supposed to protect its citizens, wants to force-vaccinate us.”

Asked whether it bothered her that some of her fellow protesters were not shy about their far-right views Ms. Liebermann shrugged defiantly. “This march is a mirror of society,” she said. “The AfD is part of society. We are all here to demonstrate against a vaccine mandate.”

German politicians had long ruled out a vaccine mandate. But even as studies show that vaccination is the most effective way to prevent a Covid infection — and to avoid hospitalization or death if infected — persuading those who are deeply skeptical of vaccines has proved all but impossible.

Oliver Nachtwey, a sociologist at the University of Basel who has studied Germany’s coronavirus protest movement, calls the low vaccination rate “political noncompliance.”

“People are resisting the vaccinations,” Mr. Nachtwey said. “It’s a new and surprising movement because it connects two very separate milieus — people who have an alternative background and maybe voted Green or on the left before, and people who are on the hard right.”

In the former Communist East, the anti-vax movement has been fueled mainly bya far-right ecosystem that ranges from the AfD to neo-Nazi groups like the Free Saxons and the Third Way, which have called for leading politicians to be “hanged.” The governors of two eastern states have received death threats from vaccine opponents in recent weeks.

In western Germany, the picture is more complicated.

A well-established tradition of homeopathy and natural cures has meant that a certain distrust of science and medicine has long been widely accepted in Germany’s middle class. Homeopathic doctors are commonplace, their services reimbursed by public health insurers. Germany’s new age esoteric industry — books, crystals, courses and the like — brings in an estimated 20 billion euros in revenue a year. Bavaria has the highest number of certified healers in the country.

Add to that a streak of romanticism regarding nature that dates to Germany’s industrialization in the 19th century, and the German backlash against the vaccine is in some ways more mainstream than marginal, said Miro Dittrich, founder and senior researcher at CeMAS, a Berlin-based research organization focused on disinformation and conspiracy theories.

“We were looking for the problem on the fringes of society, but it was always in our middle,” Mr. Dittrich said.

“There is a certain regressive and unscientific worldview that comes from the esoteric corner where alternative cures have long been mainstreamed in a certain Green and lefty nonconformist milieu,” he added. “These are middle-class people who trust their feelings more than they trust experts, and in the pandemic that’s a problem.”

Unlike in the United States, where the anti-vax movement in many ways overlaps neatly with the Republican Party, in Germany no political party has been able to capture the disparate groups of people taking to the streets.

“In Germany we still don’t have the group polarization we’re seeing in the U.S.,” said Edgar Grande, the founding director of the Center for Civil Society Research at the WZB Social Science Center in Berlin. “One part votes for the AfD. But it’s mostly people who no longer feel represented by any party or group. They are politically homeless.”

Sophia, a 22-year-old who described herself as an “energetic healer,” and who was chatting to friends about an hour before the Nuremberg march, lamented the lack of opposition coming from parties on the left like the Greens that had traditionally challenged the status quo.

“Now they’re all backing the vaccine mandate,” she said. In the recent German election, Sophia, who declined to give her last name, supported the Basis party, a newly founded anti-vax party that garnered less than 3 percent of the vote.

Sophia comes from a family of doctors, and both her parents and her older brother got fully vaccinated and have urged her to do the same. But she is concerned that the vaccine was developed too fast, and doesn’t trust the government to disclose any serious side effects.

“My body is telling me that this is not a good idea,” she said. “I have a pretty good connection to my body.”

Her friends concurred. “It’s not about keeping us healthy, it’s about giving us all a QR code,” said Stefan, a 35-year-old father of five who advocates civil disobedience and also did not want his full name used. “They rule with fear. It’s a kind of tyranny.”

“Mainstream science is a religion,” he added.

Distrust in “mainstream science,” and mainstream politics, is one thing esoterics and the far right can agree on, said Mr. Grande of the WZB.

“The common denominator is distrust,” he said. “What unites these two very different groups is an alienation from traditional parties, from science, from media.”

Mr. Grande said the high levels of trust in government shown by Germans early in the pandemic, when nine in 10 backed the coronavirus restrictions, began to erode after the first lockdown as weariness with the pandemic set in.

The danger now, Mr. Grande said, is that the weekly contact with the far right on the streets normalizes that group for those who belong to what he calls “the distrustful center.” Both camps share a belief in conspiracy theories, which have the power to radicalize the movement beyond the fringes.

The vaccine mandate, which will be debated in parliament at the end of the month, is the decisive driver of the protests. “The debate about vaccine mandate is oil into the fire of the radicalization,” Mr. Grande said.

“I fear we have a difficult political phase ahead of us in this pandemic,” he said.

BBC – German Covid protests turn nasty in row over rules and vaccinations

Petra Köpping was at home when she realised that around 30 people wielding flaming torches had gathered outside her house.

The regional politician is responsible for public health in the eastern state of Saxony, and the shouting protesters on her doorstep were apparently furious about measures to tackle the coronavirus pandemic.

The protest last month, widely condemned by politicians and the public alike, was not a one-off. Every week tens of thousands of Germans take to the streets to demonstrate against restrictions and vaccination.

    Turning to hatred

Many protests are peaceful, but others explode into violence and experts are increasingly worried by the aggressive language and threats aimed at politicians and public figures online.

Two security officers stood guard as I interviewed Petra Köpping about her experience.

Some of the hatred towards her, she says, is stirred up and exploited by the far right.

“We have to make a clear distinction between organisers who engage in right-wing extremist ideology and want to change society – they don’t care about vaccination policy – and the people who come along because they’re opposed to vaccination.”

People such as Björn who I met at a recent demonstration in Berlin. He’d brought along his young son and, as he held his hand in the crowd, Björn explained he wasn’t vaccinated himself because he thought the jab had been developed too quickly.

“The discrepancy between what we know and what the media tell us makes me suspicious.”

Covid has divided Germany. The unvaccinated are banned from restaurants, non-essential shops, leisure and arts facilities. And politicians are considering compulsory vaccination.

Björn was among several thousand people who marched through the brightly lit streets of the capital.

At the same time, in towns and cities across Germany, around 70,000 people took part in small, simultaneous demonstrations, some of which ended in scuffles and arrests.

    Crying ‘Freedom’

Many take place on Monday nights. By advertising them as Spaziergänge, or strolls, organisers not only seek to bypass Covid laws, which might prevent a mass gathering, but also to invoke nostalgically the symbolism of the Monday night strolls that were used by pro-democracy protesters opposed to the communist regime of the old East Germany.

The crowd in Berlin shouted Freiheit – freedom – as loudspeakers blasted out antivax songs, misinformation and conspiracy: “You’d be surprised by what our politicians and public broadcasters keep secret from you – and why!”

Some German politicians have acknowledged that they’ll never persuade many of these people of the benefits and safety of the vaccine, let alone convince otherwise those who don’t believe Covid exists.

But authorities are worried by the spread of conspiracy theories and the threat of radicalisation. The number of recorded politically motivated crimes rose to its highest level in a decade last year.

“The big shift we’ve seen during the pandemic is that the more inherently violent ideas of overthrowing democracy which we’ve seen from the beginning turn more into concrete ideas,” said Miro Dittrich, who researches right-wing extremism at the Centre for Monitoring, Analysis and Strategy.

He spends his days undercover online, monitoring networks like the messaging app Telegram.

“So it’s not just ‘we’ll do a big demonstration in Berlin’, it’s ‘what are the private addresses of these people who we think are responsible for this and we have to visit their homes’.”

He pointed to an example from Telegram: a picture of the German health minister with text suggesting people storm his flat and “inject him with his own stuff”.

While he believes it would be wrong to assume that all those who express such ideas online represent a physical danger, “we’ve seen its crucial for people who actually do offline violence to feel that they have a community that agrees with them”.

Most Germans dismiss the conspiracy theories and the protesters who are, after all, very much in the minority. But the voice of discontent is loud. It’s disruptive and it’s persistent.

Articles In Emirati, Saudi Media: Biden’s Feeble Iran Policy Is Reason For Houthi Attacks On Us; Biden May Repeat Deadly Mistake Of Obama Administration, Turn Iran Into Nuclear Power

INTRO: On January 17, 2022, the Houthi rebels in Yemen fired drones and missiles at Abu Dhabi airport, killing three people and causing extensive damage. In response to this attack and the continued Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, the Saudi and Emirati media published many articles that sharply criticized the Biden administration, accusing it of adopting a feeble policy vis-à-vis Iran and the Houthis.

The authors of the articles, including senior journalists and newspaper editors, accused the Biden administration of taking a weak stance towards Iran and of “courting” and “chasing” it to sign a new nuclear agreement, which, they said, will eventually enable this country to attain nuclear weapons.

This weakness, they added, and Biden’s insistence on employing diplomacy vis-à-vis Iran and his refusal to threaten military action against it, encourage Iran and its proxies in the region to exacerbate their aggression.

America’s silence in the face of the situation in Yemen, stated the articles, is tantamount to abandoning and betraying its allies Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Condemning Biden’s decision at the beginning of his term to remove the Houthis from the list or terrorist organizations, and stating that this is one of the reasons for their exacerbation of their attacks on Saudi Arabia and the UAE, the writers called on the Biden administration to rectify this mistake by redesignating the Houthis as terrorist.

Houthis second missile attack on the UAE: The new normal?

The Iran-backed Houthis targeted the United Arab Emirates for the second time in a week on Monday morning. This comes in the wake of reports that air-defense systems last Monday had intercepted some of the threats. Last week, the attack involved drones, ballistic missiles and cruise missile…

This is important because unlike Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia, the UAE is a major hub of international trade and tourism. It also is populated by a large expat community from all over the world.

The Houthis, backed by Iran, have a goal to show they can stop air traffic into the UAE and disrupt normalcy. As the UAE has strived to be part of a stabilizing group of countries, it is now being targeted by Iran.

The ability of the Iran-backed Houthis to stop air traffic at a major international airport is important. It shows their growing threat and range. They are graduating to a major regional threat and Iranian proxy….

Iranian media reports have often said the Houthis are waging a war not only against Saudi Arabia and now the UAE but also are part of the broader Iranian “resistance” against the US and Israel…
