Reader’s Links for May 9, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. War with Red China will begin as a years-long stealth battle, with the Chinese waging asymmetrical attacks to degrade its enemies over time. This will include biological weaponry not so overt so as to merit direct retaliation, and cyber-warfare.

Is it not time we recognize we have an enemy, first of all, and then examine the actions of those in our midst for actions that have promoted the enemy’s cause?

    • Yes this type of Gray Zone war will be occurring during the lead up to the Kinetic Portion of the war. I Have Changed My Mind And Do Not Want A Divorce From This Amazing Handsome Man,’ Says Glossy-Eyed Melinda Gates After Receiving Vaccine
MEDINA, WA—In a shocking turn of events, Melinda Gates has changed her mind about divorcing Bill Gates only minutes after receiving the COVID vaccine.

“I have changed my mind and do not want a divorce from this amazing and handsome man,” said Melinda with a glazed look in her eye. “Bill is perfect in every way. I cannot live without him. Also, Windows is the best operating system and Internet Explorer is the best way to surf the world wide web.”

According to sources, her divorce lawyer quickly jumped in to change her mind, reminding her that Bill was a major nerd in high school and that she would get at least half of his mind-controlled zombie army in the divorce.

“I do not care,” she said. “I live only to serve my wonderful husband, Bill.” She then changed into a 50’s housewife dress and began cooking him breakfast.

Bill Gates could not be reached for comment, but his spokesperson released a statement, saying: “Windows is the best operating system and Internet Explorer is the best way to surf the world wide web. All hail Bill.”

‘Conspiracy is hard’: Inside the Trump administration’s secret plan to kill Qassem Soleimani
    Jack Murphy and Zach Dorfman
    Sat, May 8, 2021, 2:00 AM·23 min read

    Qasem Soleimani
Three teams of Delta Force operators peered through their scopes from concealed locations at Baghdad International Airport last January, waiting for their target: Qassem Soleimani, Iran’s most powerful military commander. Disguised as maintenance workers, the operators had secreted into position in old buildings or vehicles on the side of the road.

It was a cool, overcast night and the southeast side of the airport had been shut down on short notice for a military training exercise — or so the Iraqi government was told. The three sniper teams positioned themselves 600 to 900 yards away from the “kill zone,” the access road from the airfield, setting up to triangulate their target as he left the airport. One of the snipers had a spotting scope with a camera attached that livestreamed back to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, where the Delta Ground Force commander was based with support staff.

Long-range marksmanship involves contesting with a variety of environmental factors, including wind, but the Delta teams didn’t rely on guesswork. A member of the Counter Terrorism Group (CTG), an elite Kurdish unit in northern Iraq with deep links to U.S. Special Operations, helped them make the wind call from down range.
The flight from Damascus, Syria, finally landed after midnight on Jan. 3, 2020, several hours behind schedule. Three U.S. drones orbited overhead. As the plane taxied off the runway, toward the closed-off portion of the airfield, one of the Kurdish operatives disguised as ground crew guided the aircraft to a halt on the tarmac. When the target stepped off the airplane, Kurdish CTG operators posing as baggage handlers were also present to positively identify him.

Soleimani had just arrived at Baghdad International. The Iranian general and his entourage loaded into two vehicles and drove toward the kill zone, where the Delta Force snipers lay in wait.

The two vehicles, one containing Soleimani, pulled out into the street to leave the airport. The three Delta Force sniper teams were ready, safeties rotated off on their long guns, fingers resting gently on their triggers. Above them, the three drones glided through the night sky, two of them armed with hellfire missiles.

In the six hours before Soleimani boarded his flight from Damascus, the Iranian general switched cellphones three times, according to a U.S. military official. In Tel Aviv, U.S. Joint Special Operations Command liaisons worked with their Israeli counterparts to help track Soleimani’s cellphone patterns. The Israelis, who had access to Soleimani’s numbers, passed them off to the Americans, who traced Soleimani and his current phone to Baghdad. (The Israeli Embassy in Washington, D.C., did not respond to a request for comment.)

Members of the secretive Army unit known as Task Force Orange were also on the ground in Baghdad that night, said the military official, providing “knob turners” — close-range signals intelligence experts — to help home in on Soleimani’s electronics for the tactical portion of the operation.

As the two vehicles moved into the kill zone, drone operators fired on the motorcade. Two hellfire missiles crashed down on Soleimani’s vehicle, obliterating it in the street. The driver of the second vehicle stepped on the gas to escape. The driver made it about 100 yards before slamming on the brakes when a Delta Force sniper engaged, firing on the vehicle. Just as the vehicle ground to a halt, a third hellfire missile struck, blasting it apart.

It’s now been over a year since the Jan. 3 killing of Soleimani, who was widely considered second only to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei himself in the Iranian government hierarchy, and the consequences of that strike are still unfolding. Yet many of the details behind the events leading up to his killing are shrouded in secrecy.

This article, based on interviews with 15 current and former U.S. officials, reveals new details about the Soleimani strike and the Trump administration’s long-running deliberations about killing the Iranian general and other top Iranian officials and proxies. It depicts an operation that was more sophisticated, and with a broader list of people potentially targeted for killing, than was previously known. And it describes previously unreported threats to U.S. officials in the aftermath of the strike.

For better or worse, the Soleimani killing was one of the most consequential foreign policy decisions of the Trump administration, with effects that will reverberate for years to come and likely shape the strategic environment President Biden now faces in the region. In audio that leaked in April, Iranian foreign minister Javad Zarif said the Soleimani strike was more damaging to Iran than if the U.S. had destroyed an entire Iranian city. And according to a former senior CIA official who was in favor of the killing, it was “as dramatic a reshaping of the Middle East as we’ve seen in 50 years, and it happened in a matter of hours. It was a game changer.”

The Texas state House of Representatives approved a bill to financially penalize large Texan cities that defund police in a preliminary vote Thursday.

The state House advanced H.B. 1900, which would penalize cities that defund police if they have a population of over 250,000 people by allocating the city’s sales tax money to the Texas Department of Public Safety and be banned from increasing property tax rates, in a vote of 91-55, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Republican state Rep. Craig Goldman, the author of the bill, said the legislation will prevent cities in the state of Texas from defunding their police departments.

Florida gov signs ‘voter suppression’ bill into law

    Fox Business News video

The headline from an NBC News article — “Fla. becomes latest state to enact restrictive voting law as DeSantis signs bill on Fox News” — offers a twofer. First it takes a shot at Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis for following in Georgia’s footsteps and inking his signature to a piece of legislation that is “un-American” and “sick” to borrow Joe Biden’s reaction to the Georgia law. Second it demonstrates how partisan that law is by underscoring the governor’s decision to sign it while appearing on America’s least trustworthy cable news outlet, which is how the Left uniformly views Fox News Channel.

NBC News, which is totally impartial, in case you didn’t know, merely quotes those in the know without tendering an opinion of its own. The network’s Ben Kamisar notes that the Democrats have joined voting-rights groups, which view the law as “political retribution after Democrats posted strong vote-by-mail turnout in the 2020 election.”

Kamisar also directly quotes those groups, which include the NAACP, the Florida chapters of the ACLU, and All Voting is Local, as opining that the bill “seeks to silence voters’ voices based on what they look like or where they come from.”

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin marked the anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe with a speech warning that Nazi beliefs remain strong.

Speaking to the annual military parade on Moscow’s Red Square, Putin on Sunday decried “attempts to rewrite history, to justify traitors and criminals, on whose hands lies the blood of hundreds of thousands of peaceful people.”

“Unfortunately, many of the ideologies of the Nazis, those who were obsessed with the delusional theory of their exclusiveness, are again trying to be put into service,” he said, without citing specifics.

The parade, whose format varies little from year to year, included more than 190 military vehicles traversing the square, ranging from the renowned WWII-era T-34 tank to the hulking eight-axle Yars mobile ICBM launchers.

The anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat, which Russia calls Victory Day, is the country’s most significant secular holiday. commemorating the Red Army’s military feats and the vast suffering of civilians. About 27 million Soviet soldiers and civilians are estimated to have died in the war.

    • Russia: German vaccine tourists receive second dose of Sputnik V in Moscow

The first group of vaccine tourists from Germany received their second and final dose of Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccination, in Moscow on Saturday.

A group of around 50 tourists travelled to the Russian capital in mid-April to get the first dose, after booking a vaccination tour from Norwegian travel operator World Visitors.

As Russia opened its borders to German tourists, clients were able to fly to Moscow to be vaccinated by medical staff at a private clinic in a hotel. The group were also able to combine their trip with sightseeing in Moscow, where there are currently no restrictions.

The cost of the coronavirus vaccine tours is reportedly between 1,200 to 3,000 euros (1,400 – 3,500 dollars).

The Russian vaccine is pending approval by the European Medicines Agency for use in the EU. Nevertheless state premiers of the east German states of Saxony, Thuringia, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Saxony-Anhalt have voiced plans to purchase Sputnik V.

In April Bavarian State Premier ?Markus? Soder also ?announced a preliminary agreement between his state and a plant located in Illertissen, Bavaria, to produce 2.5 million doses of Sputnik V, when it receives approval by the EMA.

SOT, Nils Stegemann, CEO of bus company in Karlsruhe (German): “A real easy feeling, I have now received the second vaccination. After the first vaccination, I have the feeling that normal life is coming back a bit, with the second vaccination I know in two weeks I will have COVID basically behind me, and it is awesome that this has become possible with the help of Sputnik in Russia. I also did an antibody test in Germany and already found out that I have formed antibodies thanks to the vaccine and I am now looking forward to a normal life at home again.”

SOT, Daniel Eschner [Left], Vaccine Tourist from Berlin (German): “We had our second vaccination today and are now happy that the vaccination has already been completed, of course we hope to travel freely for the summer, enjoy a bit of freedom, we have not for all this time.”

Steven Eschner [Right], Vaccine Tourist from Berlin (German): “I’m actually happy to be flying with a buddy in Asia this year and I know Sputnik is recognised in Asia, so I’m happy for now.”

Daniel Eschner [Left], Vaccine Tourist from Berlin (German): “We will probably choose countries in which Sputnik is recognised. In the EU it is not yet approved and we hope that it will happen.”

SOT, Albert Sigl, Co-owner of World Visitor and head of the vaccination tours project (German): “Now we are here in Moscow with the first vaccination group that will be vaccinated for the second time, we already had the first four vaccines yesterday and today we have nine more who are going to be vaccinated, that was pretty fun yesterday and I hope it will be the same today and everything was fine. At the moment, the increase in vaccination capacities in Germany means, of course, the German market, is a bit down, we have noticed that there are fewer bookings from the German market and other markets are also going up, we have very, very many inquiries from Iran, India and so on, special ones from customers who come from other countries where the borders as before are closed to Russia.”

      • German vaccine tourist gets Sputnik V tattoo after getting fully vaccinated with jab in Moscow

German vaccine tourist, Steven Eschner, completed his trip to Moscow on Saturday with not just the Russian Sputnik V vaccine in his blood but also under his skin in the form of a tattoo.

Eschner and his father decided to book their vaccine trip though the Norwegian travel agency World Visitors amid a slow start to the vaccine roll out in Germany.

To mark the event Eschner tattooed the name of the vaccine in Cyrillic letters on his forearms, as well as the city where he got the vaccine in Latin letters, namely Moscow, and complete with a syringe and a representation of the coronavirus itself.

“We decided to get the coronavirus tattooed and also where we got vaccinated, namely Moscow, so it says Moscow on the tattoo and the kind of vaccination, namely Sputnik V, and corona we tattooed because we think it’s funny and cool. Yes, and most of all we did it because it will be a cool story for us, a funny story that we could share someday, ” said Eschner.

While Russia’s borders are mostly closed for foreigners, authorities have been permitting non-citizens to travel to the capital for vaccination against COVID-19.

The Russian vaccine is pending approval by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) for use in the EU. Nevertheless state premiers of the east German states of Saxony, Thuringia, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, and Saxony-Anhalt have voiced plans to purchase Sputnik V. In April, Bavarian state premier ?Markus? Soder also announced a preliminary agreement between his state and a plant located in Illertissen, Bavaria, to produce 2.5 million doses of Sputnik V, when it receives approval by the EMA.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel warned at the end of April however that any purchase of Sputnik would be dependent on how swiftly it was approved by the EMA, as deliveries of other vaccines that are set to ramp up in the coming months could make additional orders unnecessary.

According to Health Ministry figures, nine percent of the German population has been fully immunised while 32.3 percent have received one dose of a vaccine, as of Friday.

SOT, Steven Eschner, Student from Berlin and vaccination tourist (German): “As a risk patient and three weeks ago there was an absolute lack of vaccinations in Germany, today it is no longer the case but we have now started here and now want to finish it and it is already crazy enough that we flew to Russia to be vaccinated with Sputnik V so we thought to ourselves this morning then we will tattoo the coronavirus including the Sputnik V vaccination on our arm.”

SOT, Steven Eschner, Student from Berlin and vaccination tourist (German): “We decided to get the coronavirus tattooed and also where we got vaccinated, namely Moscow, so it says Moscow on the tattoo and the kind of vaccination, namely Sputnik V, and corona we tattooed because we think it’s funny and cool. Yes, and most of all we did it because it will be a cool story for us, a funny story that we could share someday.”

SOT, Dmitry, Tattoo artist (Russian): “Today we have an unusual order! Friends from Germany arrived in Moscow to do the vaccination with our vaccine and they are getting a tattoo on this occasion.”

    • Pfizer, AstraZeneca COVID vaccines probed in Europe after reports of heart inflammation, rare nerve disorder

Europe’s drug regulator says it’s evaluating an assortment of potential side effects following inoculation with leading COVID-19 vaccines, including heart inflammation, facial swelling and a rare nerve-degenerating disorder. Yet in most circumstances, it’s not clear whether the vaccines are to blame.

In AstraZeneca’s case, the European Medicines Agency’s safety committee, known as PRAC for short, said it’s examining reports of Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) among people who received the drugmaker’s COVID-19 vaccine, according to a report released on Friday. The agency is tracking the data for all coronavirus shots as part of its routine safety procedures.

GBS syndrome is a rare disorder that causes nerve inflammation and can result in pain, numbness, muscle weakness and difficulty walking. GBS was previously identified by regulators as a potential adverse side effect that required monitoring following AstraZeneca’s jab, the EMA said. The regulator asked AstraZeneca to provide more detailed data and an analysis of all reported GBS cases for its next safety report, which are required on a monthly basis.

Concerns of rare but serious blood clots among AstraZeneca vaccine recipients have beset Europe’s vaccine rollout for months. In early April, the EMA said the unusual blood clots with low blood platelets should be listed as very rare side effect for the company’s vaccine, marketed as Vaxzevria.

Additionally, the committee said Friday that it would update its warning for Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine, which has also faced blood clotting issues. The warning will advise patients who have been diagnosed with thrombocytopenia, or low blood platelets, within three weeks of vaccination to be “actively investigated” for blood clot formations.

Despite close monitoring, the EMA committee said it hasn’t found similar blood clot cases among the mRNA shots from Pfizer and Moderna. However, those companies may have some of their own potential safety concerns that require additional observation, the committee said.

PRAC recommended adding a new side effect to Pfizer’s product information for people with dermal fillers, which are soft, gel-like substances injected under the skin. The committee now believes there’s “at least a reasonable possibility” the vaccine causes facial swelling in people with the fillers.

Additionally, the committee said it’s aware of cases of myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle, as well as pericarditis, inflammation of the membrane around the heart, following vaccination with Pfizer’s shot, known as Comirnaty.

At the moment, regulators don’t see an indication that the vaccine caused these cases. As a precaution, the committee asked Pfizer to present additional data, including an analysis of the events according to age and gender, and will “consider if any other regulatory action is needed.” Since Moderna also uses mRNA technology for its vaccine, the committee asked the mRNA biotech to monitor for similar cases.

This isn’t the first time officials have probed the potential risk of heart inflammation following COVID-19 vaccination. Late last month, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said the agency hasn’t found a link between the shots and the myocarditis cases.

Those comments followed the news that the U.S. Department of Defense would investigate 14 cases of heart inflammation among people who were vaccinated through the military’s health services. Israel also said it would examine a small number of cases, Reuters reported.

“We have not seen a signal and we’ve actually looked intentionally for the signal in the over 200 million doses we’ve given,” Walensky said during a press briefing in April.

  15. As discussed on this site not too long ago: Change of C-19 reporting procedure

The CDC will soon be changing how they record covid-19 breakthrough cases. With this change, breakthrough infections in vaccinated individuals will no longer be recorded unless the infection results in hospitalization or death.

As expected, this change is happening at a time when thousands of breakthrough cases are being reported in the fully vaccinated. I suppose when you start seeing numbers you don’t like, it’s easiest to just stop counting. It’s like that classic scientific adage says “What you don’t know can’t hurt you.”.

So in a few weeks, when you start seeing the artificial drastic decline in covid infections among the vaccinated, remember to give the CDC a big ol’ pat on the back for its hard world… or lack of it.

During Blinken’s trip to Kyiv, he called Russia’s current military stance of over 80,000 troops on the Ukrainian border “reckless and aggressive.” However, the situation is not as simple as funneling money and military support to Ukraine to prevent an invasion. A Chinese propaganda newspaper has encouraged Beijing to bomb Australia if Canberra supports US military action in protecting Taiwan.

Hu Xijin, the editor-in-chief of The Global Times, which is seen as Beijing’s mouthpiece on foreign policy to the world, said China should retaliate with ‘long-range strikes’ if Australia gets involved in a potential military conflict over Taiwan.

‘I suggest China make a plan to impose retaliatory punishment against Australia once it militarily interferes in the cross-Straits situation,’ he wrote in an opinion piece.

‘The plan should include long-range strikes on the military facilities and relevant key facilities on Australian soil if it really sends its troops to China’s offshore areas and combats against the PLA (People’s Liberation Army).’
