Reader’s Links for April 25, 2021

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. From last year, but I don’t remember seeing it on this blog:
ISIS may be behind one of largest drug busts after more than $1B in drugs seized: Italian police
Italian police have just carried out what they said might be the largest drug bust ever and have placed blame on the Islamic State.

Three shipping containers containing a staggering 84 million “Captagon” pills — about 15.4 tons worth of amphetamines — were seized at the port of Salerno in southwest Italy, investigators announced Wednesday. The Guardia di Finanza police said the operation broke records both in quantity and value. Col. Domenico Napolitano, commander of the Guardia di Finanza in Naples, told the Guardian that the illicit drugs were found in well-concealed paper and steel cylinders.

“We believe that, during the COVID-19 lockdown, the production and distribution of synthetic drugs in Europe practically ground to a halt, and therefore, many traffickers have turned to Syria, where production does not seem to have slowed down during the pandemic,” Napolitano said.

“It is known that ISIS/Daesh finances its terrorist activities in large part with the trafficking of synthetic drugs produced largely in Syria, which has become the leading world producer of amphetamines in recent years,” police said, according to CNN.

The pills bear the Captagon logo, which was initially a legitimate brand of psychostimulant containing the synthetic drug fenethylline. Although discontinued, black-market pills bearing the logo and containing amphetamines are still found in the Middle East and are known to be used by ISIS militants for energy and for bringing money into the terrorist organization.

“The amphetamine pills we seized had a symbol on them,” Napolitano explained. “Two half-moons — the same symbols found on the Captagon seized in the ISIS hideouts in the Middle East. It is the same symbol found on the tablets the terrorists consumed before the attack on the Bataclan in Paris in 2015.”
One of the drug’s users, a member of the Muslim Brotherhood who used to fight in the Syrian civil war, described the chemical’s allure to New York magazine back in 2015.

“When I take Captagon, it doesn’t matter how tired I am, I can keep walking,” he described. “It doesn’t matter how cold it is — I can take off my shirt and keep going even in the rain. It even makes you want sex more.”

Despite assertions from Italian police that the drug came from ISIS, the Syrian government, which is allied with Iran and Hezbollah, has also been accused of producing, or at least being complicit, in its shipment from Syrian ports, Ozy reported last year.

Investigators believe that Italian organized crime syndicate Camorra, a fragmented group of criminal groups with a long history in Italy, was involved in the massive delivery. How or where the Captagon pills were going to be distributed from beyond their port arrival is not immediately clear.

“It is clear the hand of the Neapolitan mafia, the Camorra, is behind drug trafficking of such proportions,” Napolitano said. “A billion-euro drug load cannot arrive in a port without the knowledge of the mafia.”
Brig. Gen. Gabriele Failla, head of the financial police in Naples and the surrounding province, told CNN that he thinks several criminal elements might have combined forces to make the enormous purchase. He didn’t think a single group would be able to handle moving more than 84 million pills.

“This is a remarkable evidence of the ‘nexus’ between terror financing and organized crime interests,” Failla said.

A spokesperson with the State Department told the Washington Examiner that the U.S. has seen ISIS use drug smuggling in the past to fund its terrorist operations.

“We have seen these reports and we welcome the efforts of the Italian government on this matter. We look forward to hearing more from our Italian partners on this seizure,” the spokesperson said.

    • “We Should Be Wary of Blaming Overpopulation for the Climate Crisis” by Heather Alberro – February 13, 2020

The annual World Economic Forum in Davos brought together representatives from government and business to deliberate how to solve the worsening climate and ecological crisis. The meeting came just as devastating bush fires were abating in Australia. These fires are thought to have killed up to one billion animals and generated a new wave of climate refugees. Yet, as with the COP25 climate talks in Madrid, a sense of urgency, ambition and consensus on what to do next were largely absent in Davos.

But an important debate did surface – that is, the question of who, or what, is to blame for the crisis. Famed primatologist Dr Jane Goodall remarked at the event that human population growth is responsible, and that most environmental problems wouldn’t exist if our numbers were at the levels they were 500 years ago.

So, Democrats, pick a lane. When activists force their way into government buildings to interrupt official duties, is it “insurrection” or genuine “protest”?

Be sure to give us an answer that does not require first checking the party affiliation of those protesters, or the cause they support.

That last point is where their ideas fail. We’re supposed to be a nation of laws, where we all play by the same rules. But we are not.

If a pro-life march ever decided to block traffic on major thoroughfares or stage a “die-in” at a supermarket to get their point across, the Left would be apoplectic. If some offensive symbol of totalitarian leftism faced the same problem of rioters trying to burn it down that their side shows us every day in the streets of, say, Portland, it would be called an insurrection, a riot, and heads would roll.

Cry havoc! — and let slip the IP addresses of war

When things were rotten. Bill Gates explains the future to David Letterman in 1995, as DOD makes off with millions of IP addresses. Letterman, Gates: YouTube Video. Background: Pixabay, LU Staff

Saturday 24 April brought a little information cluster bomb in the Washington Post with the promising headline “Minutes before Trump left office, millions of the Pentagon’s dormant IP addresses sprang to life.”

It turned out, on investigation, that the “minutes” were a literal reference. The statutory end of Trump’s term was 12 noon EST on 20 January 2021, and according to computer records, the floodgate on the “dormant IP addresses” opened at 11:57:35 AM EST.

This appears to be the only thing any of this had to do with Trump.

We’ll look at that below. The long-story background is at the Post story and AP follow-on, which added a few more useful specifics. Using the information from those stories, with some LU research mixed in, we can tell the short-version as follows: In the 1990s, the Pentagon reserved for itself millions of IP addresses out of the universe of possible addresses that use Internet Protocol version 4, or IPv4, to manage Internet connections.

    • DAILY MAIL – ‘It’s the biggest thing in the history of the internet’: Pentagon quietly transfers 175 million internet addresses worth $4BILLION to mysterious firm at shared workspace in Florida

Transfer of idle DoD IP addresses took place minutes before Trump left office
Huge swathe of 175 million addresses accounts for 4% of the entire internet
They are now under the control of mysterious Global Resource Systems LLC
Company’s address is listed in a co-working space above a bank in Florida
Reporter who visited the address found no representative and was told to leave
Now Pentagon says it is running a ‘pilot’ to ‘identify potential vulnerabilities’

A very strange thing happened on the internet the day President Joe Biden was sworn in.

A shadowy company residing at a shared workspace above a Florida bank announced to the world´s computer networks that it was now managing a colossal, previously idle chunk of the internet owned by the U.S. Department of Defense.

That real estate has since more than quadrupled to 175 million addresses – about 4 percent the size of the entire current internet. It’s also more than twice the size of the internet space actually used by the Pentagon.

‘It is massive. That is the biggest thing in the history of the internet,’ said Doug Madory, director of internet analysis at Kentik, a network operating company.

The sell off of Internet space sparked theories the Pentagon could be eventually responding to repeated demands to monitise its collections of millions of dormant web pages.

But it now seems officials hope to place the pages on the open market in order to allow them to gather huge amounts of intelligence data about Internet users, including hostile actors.

The military hopes to ‘assess, evaluate and prevent unauthorized use of DoD IP address space,’ said a statement issued Friday by Brett Goldstein, chief of the Pentagon’s Defense Digital Service, which is running the project.

But it has not answered many basic questions, beginning with why it chose to entrust management of the address space to a company that seems not to have existed until September.

It also hopes to ‘identify potential vulnerabilities’ as part of efforts to defend against cyber-intrusions by global adversaries, who are consistently infiltrating U.S. networks, sometimes operating from unused internet address blocks.

The statement did not specify whether the ‘pilot project’ would involve outside contractors.

The Pentagon periodically contends with unauthorized squatting on its space, in part because there has been a shortage of first-generation internet addresses since 2011; they now sell at auction for upwards of $25 each.

Madory said advertising the address space will make it easier to chase off squatters and allow the U.S. military to ‘collect a massive amount of background internet traffic for threat intelligence.’

Some cybersecurity experts have speculated that the Pentagon may be using the newly advertised space to create ‘honeypots,’ machines set up with vulnerabilities to draw hackers.

Or it could be looking to set up dedicated infrastructure – software and servers – to scour traffic for suspect activity.

‘This greatly increases the space they could monitor,’ said Madory, who published a blog post on the matter Saturday.

What a Pentagon spokesman could not explain Saturday is why the Defense Department chose Global Resource Systems LLC, a company with no record of government contracts, to manage the address space.

‘As to why the DoD would have done that I´m a little mystified, same as you,’ said Paul Vixie, an internet pioneer credited with designing its naming system and the CEO of Farsight Security.

The company did not return phone calls or emails from reporters. It has no web presence, though it has the domain

Its name doesn’t appear on the directory of its Plantation, Florida, domicile, and a receptionist drew a blank when an AP reporter asked for a company representative at the office earlier this month.

She found its name on a tenant list and suggested trying email. Records show the company has not obtained a business license in Plantation.

Incorporated in Delaware and registered by a Beverly Hills lawyer, Global Resource Systems LLC now manages more internet space than China Telecom, AT&T or Comcast.

The only name associated with it on the Florida business registry coincides with that of a man listed as recently as 2018 in Nevada corporate records as a managing member of a cybersecurity/internet surveillance equipment company called Packet Forensics.

The company had nearly $40 million in publicly disclosed federal contracts over the past decade, with the FBI and the Pentagon’s Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency among its customers.

That man, Raymond Saulino, is also listed as a principal in a company called Tidewater Laskin Associates, which was incorporated in 2018 and obtained an FCC license in April 2020.

It shares the same Virginia Beach, Virginia, address – a UPS store – in corporate records as Packet Forensics. The two have different mailbox numbers.

Calls to the number listed on the Tidewater Laskin FCC filing are answered by an automated service that offers four different options but doesn´t connect callers with a single one, recycling all calls to the initial voice recording.

Saulino did not return phone calls seeking comment, and a longtime colleague at Packet Forensics, Rodney Joffe, said he believed Saulino was retired.

Joffe, a cybersecurity luminary, declined further comment. Joffe is chief technical officer at Neustar Inc., which provides internet intelligence and services for major industries, including telecommunications and defense.

In 2011, Packet Forensics and Saulino, its spokesman, were featured in a Wired story because the company was selling an appliance to government agencies and law enforcement that let them spy on people’s web browsing using forged security certificates.

The company continues to sell ‘lawful intercept’ equipment, according to its website.

One of its current contracts with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency is for ‘harnessing autonomy for countering cyber-adversary systems.’

A contract description says it is investigating ‘technologies for conducting safe, nondisruptive, and effective active defense operations in cyberspace.’

Contract language from 2019 says the program would ‘investigate the feasibility of creating safe and reliable autonomous software agencies that can effectively counter malicious botnet implants and similar large-scale malware.’

Deepening the mystery is Global Resource Systems’ name. It is identical to that of a firm that independent internet fraud researcher Ron Guilmette says was sending out email spam using the very same internet routing identifier.

It shut down more than a decade ago. All that differs is the type of company. This one´s a limited liability corporation. The other was a corporation. Both used the same street address in Plantation, a suburb of Fort Lauderdale.

‘It´s deeply suspicious,’ said Guilmette, who unsuccessfully sued the previous incarnation of Global Resource Systems in 2006 for unfair business practices.

Guilmette considers such masquerading, known as slip-streaming, a ham-handed tactic in this situation. ‘If they wanted to be more serious about hiding this they could have not used Ray Saulino and this suspicious name.’

Guilmette and Madory were alerted to the mystery when network operators began inquiring about it on an email list in mid-March. But almost everyone involved didn´t want to talk about it.

Mike Leber, who owns Hurricane Electric, the internet backbone company handing the address blocks´ traffic, didn´t return emails or phone messages.

Despite an internet address crunch, the Pentagon – which created the internet – has shown no interest in selling any of its address space, and a Defense Department spokesman, Russell Goemaere, told the AP on Saturday that none of the newly announced space has been sold.

  6. They’re lying to you – Official NHS data shows only 3.5K have died of COVID-19

For twelve long months the people of the United Kingdom have been repeatedly told to stay at home in order to protect an NHS which seems to have had a holiday when you look at the official NHS data, and save lives. Millions of lives have been put on hold, millions of others have been ruined. Millions of jobs have been lost, thousands of businesses are now closed forever.

But a huge majority of the British people think it has been worth it due to the fear propaganda that has played on a 24/7 loop on their television screens, and headlined every newspaper over the past year. Because they have been led to believe that over 125,000 people have died of Covid-19, and they’ve been told that number would have been much higher if they had not complied with the destruction of the economy and decimation of their lives.

But the British people have been lied to on a monumental scale, and today we can prove it courtesy of official NHS data which is available to the public if they know how to find it. This is what we found…

We examined a document titled ‘COVID-19 total deaths – weekly summaries’ which can be found on the NHS England website here. We took a look at the most recent release that shows data up to and as of 4pm on the 31st March 2021, and went straight to a section titled ‘Deaths by Condition’.

The table provides a breakdown of people who have died after receiving a positive test result for SARS-CoV-2 and divides them into people who had a pre-existing condition and people who didn’t have a pre-existing condition. The table shows a total of 86,308 alleged Covid-19 deaths have occurred up to 4pm on the 31st March 2021. Now this isn’t the 125,000 plus that we’ve been told have occurred but this is because this data only covers England and only those who have died in hospital.

Now we’re hope you’re sat down whilst reading this because the numbers we’re about to reveal are shocking. Of the 86,308 deaths occurring in people who have tested positive for “Covid”, 82,766 died from pre-existing conditions. Only 3,542 died with no known pre-existing conditions.

What’s even more shocking about that is that this doesn’t mean the 3,542 who died with no known pre-existing conditions actually died of Covid-19. It just means they didn’t have any pre-existing conditions. This very small amount of people in the grand scheme of things could actually be even smaller, as it is entirely possible they still died of other causes, such as a bad car accident for instance. We cannot of course prove that but it is still entirely possible due to the fact they record Covid deaths as anyone who ha died within 28 days of receiving a positive test for SARS-CoV-2. But we can prove what some of the underlying pre-existing conditions were, as the NHS have told us.

The data shows that of the 82,766 deaths that occurred in hospitals in people who received a positive test for SARS-CoV 2 and who had pre-existing conditions, 14,090 of these had chronic kidney disease. That’s makes up over 11.2% of the 125,000 deaths that have been used to justify the dictatorial tyranny of the past year.

It also shows that 13,391 of the 82,766 deaths were due to chronic pulmonary disease. 13,495 had dementia, and 8544 had heart disease. Sadly the NHS list 62,054 of these underlying conditions as ‘other’ so we’re unable to tell you what caused the majority of the alleged “Covid” deaths, but you can see the rest of the statistics in the table below.

Chronic kidney disease has a high mortality rate within the first 6 months of initiating dialysis. Mortality then tends to improve over the next 6 months, before increasing gradually over the next 4 years.

The 5 year life expectancy for chronic pulmonary disease, a type of obstructive lung disease characterized by long-term breathing problems and poor airflow, ranges from 40% to 70% depending on the severity of the disease. But for severe chronic pulmonary disease the 2 year survival rate is just 50%.

The average person lives four to eight years after the onset of dementia. Do you understand now that the majority of the deaths that the authorities would have you believe were due to Covid-19 have actually occurred in people who were unfortunately already knocking on deaths door? Another important piece of information to support this was also found within the NHS data.

The highest amount of deaths have occurred in people aged over 80 who received a positive test for SARS-CoV 2 and who had pre-existing conditions, with 45,127 deaths occurring. This is an increase of almost 14,000 on the next age bracket with 31,522 deaths occurred in people aged between 60-79 who received a positive test for SARS-CoV-2 and who had pre-existing conditions. We have also seen similar statistics for those who died after receiving a positive test for SARS-CoV-2 but did not have any pre-existing conditions, however interestingly more deaths occurred in the 60-79-year-old bracket, but only an increase of 137 on those aged over 80.

But from the age of 0 through to 59, since March 2020 there have only been 602 deaths that have occurred in England’s hospitals in people who have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and who did not have any pre-existing conditions. Of those aged 0 through to 59, since March 2020 there have been just 5,569 deaths that have occurred in England’s hospitals in people who have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and who also had a pre-existing condition.

So the question remains, why on earth have authorities demanded that the entire population stay at home? School children have had their education ruined, teenagers have had their young lives ruined, new parents have been left in isolation to struggle alone without the help of their families, the list is endless. The majority of deaths that may actually be due to Covid-19, of which the number is still incredibly small – just 3,542 in all have occurred, the majority of which have been people aged over 75.

The NHS data doesn’t tell us that the majority have occurred in the over 75’s though as you’ll have noticed, as they use quite a broad spectrum ranging from age 60-79. But the UK Government have kindly provided a heat map of ‘Deaths occurring within 28 days of a positive test’ by date of death and by the age demographic.

The above graph can be seen at the UK Gov’s. coronavirus dashboard here. Whats pretty clear from this data is that the most alleged Covid deaths have occurred in people aged 90+. The next age group with the most deaths being 85 – 89, then 80 – 84 and so on and so on. There’s a general decrease in the number of deaths up to about the 65-69 age group but then we see a dramatic fall to pretty much zero in anyone aged under about the age of 60.

This heat map shows that there have generally been no more than 9 deaths in a single day of anyone aged between 60 – 64. In the 65-69 year old group there have been no more than 20 deaths a day. In the 70-74 year old group no more than 27 deaths in a day. In the 75-79 group no more than than 48 deaths in a day, at it’s highest. It isn’t until we get to the 85-89 year old group that we start to see a large increase in the number of alleged Covid deaths. 179 deaths in a day at its highest. Then we have the 90+ age group which has seen no more than 379 deaths in a single day at it’s highest.

The average life expectancy in the UK is 81 years. Yet the UK has enforced dictatorial tyranny, destroyed the economy, decimated businesses and people’s livelihoods and created a flood of mental health issues because people who have lived longer than the average life expectancy of 81 are dying.

One-hundred-twenty-five-thousand Covid deaths in just 12 months? Pull the other one! We’ve only seen three-and-a-half-thousand.

  7. France: Crowd gathers in Paris to protest court ruling in Jewish woman’s murder case

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Paris on Sunday to decry the decision of France’s top court not to pursue a trial over the 2017 murder of Sarah Halimi, a case seen by many as an anti-Semitic hate crime.

On April 14, the Cour de cassation, France’s highest court of appeals, upheld a previous ruling that the killer was not criminally responsible after a psychiatric assessments indicated he was suffering a psychotic episode following a massive use of cannabis.

“This gathering was born of our bafflement, it was born of our anger when we heard of this ruling that has no place in the Country of Human Rights that France is,” said Jonathan Behar, the organiser of the rally during a speech.

Halimi, a 65-year-old retired doctor and schoolteacher and the only Jewish resident in her building, was killed in her apartment by Kobili Traore, a 27-year-old neighbour, who reportedly yelled ‘Allahu Akbar’ and ‘I killed the Shaitan’ during the attack.

Following the ruling, French President Emmanuel Macron said he would seek to change the laws to prevent similar cases from happening in the future.

Where are the police? That’s a question that is being asked and repeated by black-owned businesses operating on the corner of 38th Street and Chicago Avenue, aka “George Floyd Square,” as they struggle to remain open amid plummeting revenues and rising crime.

The chief problem, owners say, is that “police have abandoned the blocked-off intersection, creating a dangerous autonomous zone” a la Seattle’s “CHAP” during the “summer of love.” That’s according to the New York Post, which interviewed several of the area’s storekeepers:

  9. From Prague with love – what’s behind the Czech spy scandal

[…]The day before, Czech authorities expelled 18 Russian diplomats who, according to Prague, were involved in an incident seven years ago. In 2014, an arms depot in Vrebtice was destroyed. The local media justified the Russians’ actions by the fact that the warehouse was used to store weapons for Ukraine. The deliveries bypassed the embargo when the fiercest fighting with pro-Russian rebels was taking place in eastern Ukraine, – reports the Theduran websit.

“I, as Czech Foreign Minister, have decided to expel all employees of the Russian embassy in Prague who have been clearly identified by our intelligence services as officers of the Russian secret services SVR and GRU. Within 48 hours, 18 employees of the Russian embassy must leave the Czech Republic”, – said Jan Gamachek.

[…]There are other oddities in this story. Even the warehouse allegedly destroyed by the Russians draws attention. The private complex was so secret that neither locals nor officials knew about it. Yet the volume of weapons stored there would be enough for a small army.

Czech Republic: “No evidence or witnesses” accused agents behind Vrbetice blast – pres Zeman

Czech President Milos Zeman commented on the report released by the domestic national intelligence agency (BIS), saying he agrees “that there is no evidence or witnesses of these two agents being present in the Vrbetice complex,” in a televised statement from Prague on Sunday.

“The second part of the complex was examined before its explosion, no explosive system was found,” Zeman added, shedding doubts on the current narrative that GRU is behind the blast, that saw two killed.

Zeman urged caution with the investigation, adding that these two facts don’t “mean that the suspicion of them being involved is not serious. Firstly, we should be asking, what were they even doing in our country. Secondly, BIS not proving their involvement doesn’t mean they did not infiltrate the Vrbetice complex.”

“If this suspicion gets disproved, it would imply that it was a play of intelligence agencies, that could have serious consequences for our internal political affairs,” Zeman warned.

Diplomats in Moscow and Prague have been expelled as a result of the accusations, which Russia has strongly denied.

SOT, Milos Zeman, Czech President (Czech): “Accusations were made against two Russian agents, operating on our soil, with two covert passes – Tadzikhi and Moldovan. These two agents were accused of being responsible for the explosion in Vrbetice. I can say, that in the BIS report, and I have underlined this sentence, that there is no evidence or witnesses of these two agents being present in the Vrbetice complex. After all, when the second part of the complex was examined before its explosion, no explosive system was found. This doesn’t mean that the suspicion of them being involved is not serious. Firstly, we should be asking, what were they even doing in our country. Secondly, BIS not proving their involvement doesn’t mean they did not infiltrate the Vrbetice complex.”

SOT, Milos Zeman, Czech President (Czech): “Czech police, and also the state attorney office, which is overseeing the case, have my full trust. As a commander-in-chief of the armed forces, that the Czech police is undoubtedly a part of, I want the full capacity to be used in the investigation, and when it ends, for the Czech citizens to be fully informed and nothing to be concealed. I hope we learn the truth.

SOT, Milos Zeman, Czech President (Czech): “We are going to learn whether the suspicion is rightful, and if so, even though I support proper relationships with all the significant countries, it is necessary for the Russian federation to pay for this eventual terrorist act, for instance with Rosatom being excluded from the Dukovany tender. If this suspicion gets disproved, it would imply that it was a play of intelligence agencies, that could have serious consequences for our internal political affairs.”

At least 82 people died and around 110 were injured following a fire at a COVID-19 hospital in Baghdad, on Saturday. Most of the victims and injured people are reported to be patients.

Beds, ICU equipment and the hospital corridors were blackened in the aftermath of the fire that was extinguished early Sunday morning. The faulty storage of oxygen cylinders has been blamed for an explosion that started the blaze.

Meanwhile, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi suspended Health Minister Hassan Al-Tamimi and Baghdad Governor Muhammad Jaber, citing negligence.

Iraq announced three days of national mourning to honour the deceased.

  13. DAILY MAIL – IAN GALLAGHER: Is TV’s favourite Sage member Professor Susan Michie such a big fan of lockdowns because she’s a Communist once known as Stalin’s nanny?

Few of the Government scientists helping to shape the nation’s Covid strategy are as influential and ubiquitous as Professor Susan Michie. Not only is she a senior member of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) but also two other groups guiding Ministers and she is regularly given a platform by the BBC and ITV to share her ideas.

Yet few viewers and listeners will realise that Prof Michie is a key member of the Communist Party of Britain and is dedicated to establishing a new socialist order in this country.

To her critics, it is little wonder that she is prominent among those demanding yet more Covid controls, bursts of short, sharp isolation and seemingly indefinite mask-wearing and distancing – the sort of policies favoured by the Communist Morning Star newspaper.

  14. Prayer stickers a welcome message for Muslim patients

MINNEAPOLIS — Muslims getting care at the Hennepin Healthcare will no longer scramble to locate the right direction for prayer.

The hospital and Muslim leaders have affixed stickers in 60 rooms around the emergency department indicating qibla, the direction they should face when praying . Hennepin Healthcare also made a commitment to put prayer stickers throughout the hospital as a nod of support for their growing caseload of Muslim patients.

Minnesota is home to at least 150,000 Muslims. The Hennepin Healthcare’s emergency department alone serves more than 210 Muslims on average a day.

“This is a historical moment for both Hennepin Healthcare and our Muslim community in Minnesota,” said imam Sharif Abdirahman of Dar Al-Hijrah mosque, which donated about 250 qibla stickers to the hospital. “When patients come to HCMC, a level one trauma hospital, they may experience emotional distress so we want to make sure the environment is welcoming and inclusive.”

Muslims are obligated to pray five times a day and must face toward the sacred structure called the Kaaba in Mecca, the holiest city in Saudi Arabia. Many use a qibla finding app on their smartphones to know which direction to pray. For devout Muslims, prayer serves as a powerful connection to Allah and a source of healing.

Hennepin Healthcare physicians were the first to notice the importance of prayers to their Muslim patients and the additional stress it caused them when they struggled to tell which direction to face when praying. The doctors suggested to the Emergency Management Diversity Committee that it should place qibla indicators in their exam rooms.

Attending the event with local imams was Mike Van Keulen, executive director of Open Path Resources, a Minneapolis non-profit that has been working with the Hennepin Healthcare in the last two years to include certified Muslim chaplains to their staff and improve relationships with Muslims in the East African community. Van Keulen said placing qibla stickers in hospital rooms is part of a larger effort.

“It’s having accurate information about which way to pray, but the bigger thing is, when you walk in the hospital and there’s the qibla sign there, the hospital is saying, ‘We knew you would be here and you’re welcome here and this is your hospital too,’” said Van Keulen. “It’s important for Minnesota to take note that we can make progress.”

Minnesota’s health care systems have been rethinking their relationships with the Muslim community in recent years, hiring certified Muslim chaplains to support patients, most of whom don’t trust the medical system.

With two Muslims employed as chaplains in Minnesota, the gap is still big. But seven are on track to finish the professional training required to serve in that role in hospitals across the state.

Mohamed, the first certified Muslim chaplain in the state, said having qibla stickers in a major hospital like Hennepin Healthcare is a step in the right direction when it comes to building trust with the Muslim community.

“This is the beginning,” Mohamed said. “I hope that other hospitals follow Hennepin Healthcare’s footsteps.”

  15. To the vile Mazin Abdul-Adhim, the man from Iraq, now living in London, Ontario, CANADA, the Canadian leader of the terrorist group Hibz ut-Tharir, I say tread lightly, do not under estimate Canadian Patriots who are swiftly tiring of your Islamic bullshit.

Facebook page of the dispicable Mazin Abdul-Adhim, allowed to live and spew hate in Canada even though we have M-103, the hate speech motion introduced by Muslim MP Iqra Khalid, Mississauga-Erin Mills.

“A murderer in the US was caught committing murder on video was found guilty of committing murder….l and the world was actually surprised. That is the state of things in the US. The only reason why this despicable and corrupt system hasn’t fallen already is only because there is no alternative.

Had the Khilafah simply existed anywhere in the world, the US would be little more than a chapter in the history books like the Roman Empire and Nazi Germany.”

Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm owns up to $5 million in the electric battery and vehicle manufacturer President Joe Biden will promote on Tuesday as part of his push for a $1.9 trillion infrastructure bill.

Biden’s virtual visit to the electric battery producer Proterra comes days after Vice President Kamala Harris paid a visit to Thomas Built Buses, a North Carolina-based school bus company that counts Proterra as its main supplier of electric vehicles. The back-to-back White House visits to Granholm-connected companies risk at least the appearance of impropriety and demonstrate how lawmakers can use policy initiatives to pad their own wallets. Biden’s infrastructure package includes a $174 billion investment in the electric vehicle market, calls for the replacement of “50,000 diesel transit vehicles” in favor of electric alternatives, and creates a Clean Buses for Kids program that will “electrify at least 20 percent of our yellow school bus fleet.”

Granholm has taken a leading role in the administration’s forthcoming infrastructure package. The president in February tasked her with “identifying risks in the supply chain for high-capacity batteries, including electric-vehicle batteries, and policy recommendations to address these risks.”
