Reader’s Links for June 25, 2020

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

This article was an eye-opening read to me.

I’m hearing from friends who work for large companies that they have to listen to racism webinars. 20 years ago at my job (law firm) we had a diversity expert company come in to give sessions on “diversity’ … and 20 years from now, if there’s a victim to be made, if there’s a dollar to be made, we’ll be doing through the same thing.

  2. “White children were left in tears and admitted they felt ‘guilty’ and terrified of saying something racist ‘that could follow them for life’ in a new TV experiment that split pupils along racial lines. ”

Put into groups based on Diversity, (and not talent) – what could go wrong to that society that isn’t already apparent?

  3. Lest anyone think that Americans have ever previously enjoyed physically toppling monuments, here is an account of a lawsuit that spanned 1989 to 2015 over whether a cross on a mountainous piece of public land overlooking a city should stand. The legal process itself helped clarify the function and symbolism of the cross: Was it a war memorial or a focus of worship demonstrating Christian hegemony.? That passions both ways met in court is itself a monument to American ideals.

  4. Two Terrorists Killed, 5 Members of Pakistan-Based Terror Group Lashkar-e-Taiba Arrested in Kashmir (sputniknews, Jun 25, 2020)

“Indian security forces have been engaged in major counter-terror operations in the Kashmir Valley since April of this year. Security forces have eliminated more than 110 terrorists so far, with intelligence services claiming that infiltration attempts from the Pakistani border may witness a sharp increase this summer.

Police in Jammu and Kashmir along with the security forces have killed two terrorists in the Sopore area of Kashmir’s Baramulla district. The encounter broke out during the wee hours of Thursday.

The police have yet to determine what group the two terrorists belonged to. Two to three terrorists are believed to still be trapped, and a search operation at the scene is still underway.

“We had specific information about the presence of terrorists in Sopore. A joint party search was launched and as the security personnel moved near the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired upon security forces leading to an encounter in the area”, a senior police official in Jammu and Kashmir said.

Authorities have suspended mobile internet services in Sopore as a precautionary measure to prevent anything untoward from happening.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir police along with the security forces have also busted a terror module of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and arrested five terrorist associates from Budgam, the officials said.

According to the police, the accused have been identified as Ifshan Ahmad Ganie, Imran Rashid, Mohsin Qadir, Abid Rather, and Owais Ahmad.

“The five were arrested during a search operation. We have recovered heavy arms and ammunition from their possession. An initial investigation has revealed that the group provided logistic support and shelter to active LeT terrorists and had been active in the area for the last few months”, a senior police official said.

He further said a case under relevant sections of Indian law has been registered and an investigation is underway.

Lashkar-e-Taiba is one of the largest and most active Islamist militant organisations in South Asia. The group reportedly operates a number of terrorist training camps in Pakistani-administered Kashmir and is banned by the United Nations. As per official data, around 120 terrorists have been killed in operations in the valley since 1 January.”

  5. London horror: Police speak out on terrifying Brixton violence – 22 officers injured (express, Jun 25, 2020)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1300713/london-news-brixton-party-police-gunshots-met-police-uk-crime-video

“POLICE officers have been attacked in Brixton, London, after a huge party spiralled out of control in the early hours of this morning.

Horrifying video shows lines of police being hit with objects thrown by a crowd in the south London suburb. Met Police confirmed 22 officers were injured, with two requiring hospital treatment. Four people were arrested for assault and public order offences. They remain in police custody.

Shocking video footage showed violent revellers jumping on a Met Police patrol car. Police confirmed a small number of emergency vehicles were damaged during the evening.

It followed reports of a gunshot at a house party earlier in the night.

Met Police said they were called to Overton Road in Lambeth to multiple reports of a large unlicensed music event in the street.

Officers attended to encourage the crowd to leave the location but they did not engage with police. Police said the event continued and more officers attended the scene and the group became hostile towards officers.

Replying to a Sky News tweet on the injured officers, one anonymous police officer wrote: “We came under sustained attack from bottles and missles , no NATO’s or PSU kit…4 on my team struck but ok.

“Tactical withdrawal. Everyone of us wanted to kit up and go back in , due to injured officers unable to do so.

“Proud of all officers there last night. Very Hostile crowd.”

A police helicopter was seen circling around the area since Wednesday evening.

Reacting to the violent scenes, one person on Twitter said: “So guys imagine, we’re at a Brixton BBQ, a gunshot goes off and everyone started running!”

Another tweeted: Disgusting, sickening behaviour in Brixton. They are out of control and you want to continue to ease lockdown?!?!?!?! How were they allowed to have a BLOCK PARTY that had hundreds of people and it didn’t get locked off???

Video posted on social media site Twitter shows a large group of people gathering in Angell Town about 7pm.

Meanwhile, other footage shows a pair of violent revellers climbing atop a police car and smashing in the window with their feet.

Revellers can be seeing holding sticks and bricks.

A Twitter user posted: “And this wasn’t even the worst part , weapons were thrown at police, an abandoned police car smashed up, people’s cars parked smashed!! Police driven out onto the main road by these disgraceful people

“shame on all of you !!!!!!”

Police said a Dispersal Zone was authorised under S35 of the Anti-Social Behaviour Crime and Policing Act 2014 to encourage crowds to leave.

They said the event was cleared in the early hours of this morning.

A section 60 was later implemented in the vicinity of the event to prevent violence.

BCU Commander Colin Wingrove said: “Our role is to protect the public and ensure guidelines are adhered to in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19 protecting the NHS and save lives

“Our officers work incredibly hard to engage and explain the public health message and regulations to prevent such gatherings occurring.

“Last night we received numerous concerns from residents complaining about a large gathering, noise, anti-social behaviour and violence and officers responded to those concerns.

“These gatherings are unlawful, as well as posing a risk to public health and against coronavirus restrictions.”

  6. Report: Iran TV airs 355 coerced confessions over decade (abcnews, Jun 25, 2020)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/report-iran-tv-airs-355-coerced-confessions-decade-71442899

“Iranian state television has broadcast the suspected coerced confessions of at least 355 people over the last decade as a means to both suppress dissent and frighten activists in the Islamic Republic on behalf of security services, according to a report released Thursday.

The study published by Justice for Iran and the International Federation for Human Rights outlined cases of prisoners being coached into reading from white boards, with state television correspondents ordering them to repeat the lines while smiling.

Others recounted being beaten, threatened with sexual violence and having their loved ones used against them to extract false testimonies later aired on news bulletins, magazine-style shows and programs masquerading as documentaries, the report said.

The number of those filmed likely is even higher as some say their coerced confessions have yet to air, while others may not have been immediately accessible to researchers, said Mohammad Nayyeri, co-director of Justice for Iran.

“They always live with that fear of when it’s going to happen,” Nayyeri told The Associated Press. “So that fear itself in those cases is not less than the fear and the anguish and pain of those whose confessions have been broadcast.”

Emails sent to Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting, the state television and radio firm, could not be delivered. Iran’s mission to the United Nations did not respond to a request for comment.

Under Iranian law, only the state can own and operate television and radio stations. Satellite dishes, though prevalent across Tehran, remain illegal. YouTube and other Western video streaming services are blocked. That leaves many watching IRIB across its multiple national and provincial stations.

While state TV channels remain a major force across much of the Mideast, IRIB particularly appears influenced by state security agencies like Iran’s Intelligence Ministry, its military and the intelligence arm of the country’s paramilitary Revolutionary Guard.

“IRIB operates as a media hub that links a vast network of security, intelligence, military and judicial organizations,“ the report said. “IRIB is not simply a media organization and by no means an independent one, but rather an organ of state suppression that uses the tools of mass communication.”

That translates to a focus on Iranian military production and exercises to airing confessions long criticized by Europe and the U.S., as well as human rights groups.

Washington sanctioned a bank supporting IRIB in November 2018 and later its director, Abdulali Ali-Asgari. The U.S. Treasury says IRIB “routinely broadcasts false news reports and propaganda, including forced confessions of political detainees.” U.S. prosecutors even allege an IRIB staffer recruited a former U.S. Air Force intelligence analyst for the Guard.

However, sanctions on IRIB itself have been waived every six months since being imposed by the Obama administration in 2013, in part over what the State Department has described as “Iran’s commitment to ensure that harmful satellite interference does not emanate from its territory.”

The use of televised, coerced confessions dates back to the chaotic years immediately after Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution. State television aired confessions by suspected members of communist groups, insurgents and others. Even Mehdi Bazargan, Iran’s first prime minister after the revolution, warned at one point he could be detained and put on television “repeating things like a parrot.”

There have been a number of famous cases of aired coerced confessions, like that of Newsweek correspondent Maziar Bahari, who got British regulators to revoke the license for Iranian state television English-language arm Press TV over airing his.

The report by Justice for Iran and the International Federation for Human Rights describes in detail the case of Maziar Ebrahimi, who later said Intelligence Ministry officials tortured him and 11 others into giving coerced confessions falsely claiming they assassinated nuclear scientists on behalf of Israel.

“Even after confessing to the assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientists, Ebrahimi was still tortured and pressurized to take responsibility for another unsolved case of the explosion in the missile factory in Mallard,” the report said.

Ebrahimi later was freed and left Iran for Germany. After the BBC’s Persian service reported on his story, Iranian government spokesman Ali Rabiei in August called the Ebrahimi’s torture “unprofessional” and said those responsible would be held accountable.

To date, there has been no public announcement of such a reckoning taking place.

But there are many more, according to the report, including those who have yet to see their confessions broadcast. Those sheer numbers over the last decade came as a surprise to Nayyeri and other researchers.

“It was because of the sheer shock of the numbers that we decided to give it more attention,” he said. ”You put them together and then, only then, you see how huge the problem is. It is not just every now and then. No, this is systematic. This is continuous.””

  7. Lawsuit asks that children in New York be allowed to attend summer sleepaway camp. This planned safety measures impresses me: hiring only people under 50 with antibodies. They are arguing that sleepaway campers have fewer contacts than day-campers. At first I was skeptical, but then I realized that militaries across the world have locked down their bases for the same reason. It is ironic that the left’s argument of unintentional disproportionate impact is being used: New York’s ban (claims to) end up affecting 40,000 Jews and their families, along with towns that benefit from the commerce.

  8. The stunt man practiced to fall at the gentlest shove. It was all he would need.

Much here makes sense, undeniably. There are no protesters–they came the day before. The camera set-up, the blue-shirt guy…it needn’t be a big operation.

How deeply can we be played? I posit we can be played more deeply than we dare imagine if the “player” has the resolve, resources and his specific objectives clearly set. He knows what he is doing. We are played every time we watch a good movie.

Divide and conquer? Is this the explanation with the fewest assumptions? Occam’s Razor? Maybe. It is a reliable strategy and one we see going on even between our friends and family. More specifically in this instance: target the police. They are targeted now in every city. Resignations and lawsuits. Accusations of misbehavior. Brutality.

Is this a Goebbels moment? So well planned and acted. If it is, who will argue effectively that we are not drowning in Goebbels moments every day and on every societal and political level? What if we are? Is this so hard to imagine with so many cameras and free radicals looking to stick it to The Man? What is the broader picture? This prideful little stunt crew certainly sees a broader picture. They see themselves as part of a glorious part of history, where equality reigns, except for the undeserving villains of power. Who is the villain of power? He who disagrees with the revolution. Race is irrelevant. Bow to the new power. Or else. The 1960’s now seems like a dress rehearsal decade.

Who, then, is the hidden hand behind such diabolical intelligence? Who has such depth of understanding of Goebbels in action, and money? Who has the world as his oyster and access to so many halls of power? Who knows, like a surgeon, to cut now into police forces everywhere, weakening our defenders before the next big offensive come November, if required?

A man of first-hand experience. An old man. A living link to the Goebbels era. A man of such wealth and power, and driven by the kind of self-fulfilling god complex that only he is qualified to design and deliver the modern Nazi vision. Who does Occam’s Razor tell us this is? Who is the only person I have ever heard say that his best time in life was under Goebbels?

      • The analysis in the video and your analysis do a good job of debunking the entire incident, now if we could just get a lot more people to start thinking and paying close attention to what the left is doing.

      • Oh, yes Johnny. You observed this moment with eloquence. In a time and place that’s clearly out of bounds.

  9. Thanks for this insight: We are played every time we watch a good movie.

Prediction: Soros is a canard, a frontman funded from elsewhere so that–no matter what the outcome–in the end somehow, Jews get blamed, banned, commerce suffers, society teeters further away from the capitalist democratic path to prosperity, free thought, and supportive family relationships.

  10. Johnny–you just haven’t met as many nostalgic Europeans and Arabs as I have…those still yearning for what might have been.

  11. Malca, I went to the cusp of the Jews then pulled my punch. You finished it for me. The canaries are having a hard time breathing now. Redheads are always targets in such times. But I do know those Europeans of which you speak, and too well. I know the Soros, and too well. We of this descent know the broth.

  16. In analytical scrum on new page of Strzok case notes, don’t miss the ‘little’ thing Comey did
    By J.E. Dyer June 24, 2020

The clue solution is in on the newly released page of Peter Strzok’s handwritten notes on the Michael Flynn case: Obama, with the Logan Act, in the Oval Office.

It takes a small bit of elision to get there, because it appears from the notes that then-V.P. Joe Biden is the one who brought up the Logan Act.

And Obama’s role is recorded as telling his subordinates that the “right people” needed to be on this; i.e., the Flynn case. Whatever Obama actually said, that’s a master of bureaucracy’s cagey way of saying “He ordered us to keep investigating Michael Flynn.”

Who’s the master of bureaucracy? I agree with those who assume Strzok’s notes summarize an account by someone else of the 5 January 2017 Oval Office meeting. There’s never been any information that Strzok was there. I assume the someone else was James Comey, Strzok’s top boss. The nature of the notes suggests Strzok was writing while someone was talking (presumably Comey). From everything we know about Comey, it would be in character for him to debrief his team after such a meeting.

  22. UN: Guterres calls on Israel to withdraw from West Bank annexation plans
United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on Israel to back away from its West Bank annexation plans, at a virtual meeting of the UN Security Council, New York City, Wednesday.

“If implemented, annexation would constitute a most serious violation of international law, grievously harm the prospect of a two-State solution and undercut the possibilities of a renewal of negotiations,” Guterres said. “I call on the Israeli Government to abandon its annexation plans.”

“All of us who believe in the legitimate right of both Palestinians and Israelis to self-determination, security and a brighter future must reject this move and consolidate efforts to preserve a sustainable two-State solution,” said UN Special Coordinator for Middle East Peace Process Nickolay Mladenov.

“Israel is testing the resolve of the international community, thinking its colonial appetite will prevail over the collective international will to advance regional peace and security,” said Palestinian Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Maliki.

Israeli Permanent Representative to UN Danny Danon in turn said, “There is a strong and undeniable connection between the Jewish people and their historic homeland of Judea and Samaria. This has been true for over three millennia and no Palestinian propaganda can change that.”

Embracing a Shared Vision for Tomorrow – Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

    ( 6 min 57 )

This week, we have the great pleasure of joining Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health organization who shares his views and perspectives on the need to unite the world in the fight against coronavirus and the implications that the pandemic will have for the industry, health systems and societies overall.

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was asked, by our partner the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the following questions:

0:22 Our decisions are only as good as the data we base them on. Where would you start to improve the data available to WHO to make decisions related to the pandemic?

2:26 How can governments respond to the pandemic without exaggerating inequalities based on gender, age, income, race, and other aspects that divide us?

5:02 Social isolation and economic closure generally suggested by health officials are often unworkable in many societies in the global south, what alternatives if any does the WHO propose?

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was elected as WHO Director General for a five-year term by WHO Member States at the Seventieth World Health Assembly in May 2017. He is the first WHO Director General to have been elected from multiple candidates by the World Health Assembly, and is the first person from the WHO African Region to serve as WHO’s chief technical and administrative officer. Prior to his election as WHO Director General, Dr. Tedros served as Ethiopia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2012–2016. In this role, he led efforts to negotiate the Addis Ababa Action Agenda, in which 193 countries committed to the financing necessary to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

  24. Washington Post abandons journalism for ideological agenda that destroys lives
By Hans Bader June 25, 2020

As part of a race-obsessed ideological agenda, the Washington Post recently destroyed the reputation and livelihood of a powerless woman. Yesterday, it doubled down on that agenda by announcing it will hire a new managing editor to enforce ideological conformity, by overseeing “stories that involve sensitive subjects of race, ethnicity and identity” and “final hiring and promotion decisions.” That will make The Post’s already slanted news coverage far worse: Washington Post news stories generally assume, contrary to court rulings from the Supreme Court on down, that racial disparities are proof of discrimination — even when they are not.

  25. Mother of Montreal teen allegedly targeted in racist video speaks out

The family of the alleged target of a blackface video in Montreal that was widely shared on social media is seeking to file a complaint with the Quebec Human Rights Commission.

The mother, who doesn’t want to be identified by name in order to protect her son, who is a minor, told Global News that her son’s name was mentioned in the video.

“The two girls appeared in the video in blackface and also mentioned his name specifically,” she said. “He was targeted.”

In the video the lyrics expressed hatred for Black people and compared someone with her son’s name to a monkey.

The woman explained that her son was friends with the girls when he lived in Montreal’s West Island but that the friendship soured late 2019. According to her the video hurt her son profoundly.

“I’ve noticed it affects his mood, his decision making,” she noted. “He’s questioning a lot his place in society as well.”

She and the teen are now working with the civil rights advocacy group, the Centre for Research-Action on Race Relations (CRARR), to bring a complaint to the Quebec Human Rights Commission.

“He was basically a target of racist insults in the form of public humiliation,” CRARR Executive Director Fo Niemi told Global News. “So legally he does have a recourse.”

The family will seek financial damages but they are also pushing for something else.

“Blackface, we hope to have it declared as a hate symbol, and a symbol of racism to be outlawed by our existing human rights legislation,” Niemi pointed out.

Global News reached out to the families of the two girls. One family wasn’t available and the other refused an interview. According to Niemi, the school the girls attended, John Renie High School, as well as the Lester B. Pearson School Board (LBPSB) could be held liable.

“[The video] very likely has created a toxic environment for every Black student at the school and at the school board,” he pointed out.

At a special online meeting Monday night the board voted to create an action plan to tackle racism and discrimination.

“It has to be a collaborative and cooperative effort if we are going to ensure as we always strive to, a safe and secure environment for our students and our staff,” Chairperson Noel Burke told the meeting. “To do so even means looking at our own policies.”

The mother of the alleged target of the video is looking forward to seeing what action is taken and she’s looking forward to a fair resolution of the situation for her son.

“This is really putting our foot down to make an impact and saying that there should be repercussions whenever someone does blackface,” she said.

Mother of teen boy targeted in racist video files Quebec human rights complaint

MOTREAL — The mother of a 15-year-old Montreal-area boy who was the target of a widely circulated racist video is filing a human rights complaint against the alleged perpetrators.

The video shows two girls, believed to be local high school students, singing and dancing in blackface as they direct a stream of slurs and insults towards Black people.

The mother, who is not being named to protect her son’s identity, says the video includes her son’s name, and violates his rights to equality, dignity and respect.

The complaint is being filed by a local rights group, the Center for Research-Action on Race Relations, and will include a claim for several thousands dollars in damages as well as mandatory anti-racism training for the alleged perpetrators.

Fo Niemi, the group’s executive director, says the complainants will also seek a ruling that will declare blackface a discriminatory symbol under the charter, which would make those who use it subject to legal consequences.

Montreal police investigated the video but said last week that the girls would not face criminal charges.

  26. No Justice for Murder Victim Anne Widholm, No Peace for Innocent Victims

With no new trial date, accused murderer Habibullah Ahmadi now eligible to walk free.
    June 25, 2020
    Lloyd Billingsley

On June 5, Ontario courts planned to set a new trial date for Habibullah Ahmadi, charged with the murder of Anne Widholm in Windsor, Ontario, in October of 2017. Like past trial dates for the murder defendant, this one is proving difficult to verify.

Last week Ontario courts found no mention of Habibullah Ahmadi and at this writing an email inquiry to the provincial attorney general remains unanswered. In similar style, the attorney for Habibullah Ahmadi failed to respond to voice and email inquiries. So did the radio station that provided the only photo of Anne Widholm. The 75-year-old grandmother was a victim of a savage beating that left multiple brain hemorrhages, fractured vertebrae and skull fractures, “among the most brutal things I’ve seen in my career,” Dr. Balraj Jhawar told the Windsor Star.

A Windsor Star reporter says the COVID-19 emergency has put trials on hold and pushed the scheduling date into July. A June 20 Star report confirms that trials are in fact taking place in Ontario, so the claim is open to reasonable doubt. In the more likely scenario, Habibullah Ahmadi is now walking free.

    • On October the 8th, 2017, 75 year old Sara Anne Widholm was walking the Ganatchio Trail, in Windsor, Ontario – picking up litter, which she did every Sunday after church.

She was found by other walkers, unconscious.
She had multiple brain hemorrhages, a blood clot on the surface of her brain, extensive skull fractures, fractured vertebrae in her neck, lacerated scalp, baldly bruised face, eyes so bruised, they were swollen shut. She was unconscious and remained unconscious and died 14 months later.
Dr. Balraj Jhawar described the assault as the worst he had ever seen.
Four weeks after the attack, Sara’s husband Alfred died suddenly at 83. Alfred had been a missionary and was retired living in Windsor.

Habibullah Ahmadi, 21, was charged with 2d degree murder, and the charge was changed after Sara died.
The murder trial was set for January of 2019, then oddly changed to March 16, 2020 and was moved to Chatham, Ontario.

According to the Jordon Ruling of 2016, a trial must be held within a 30 month period from the arrest and charges being brought being until final decision at completion of the trial, otherwise defence attorneys can call for charges to be dismissed. The Jordon date in this case is April of 2020. People were reassured that because of COVID 19 things would be different.

I have had a hard time from day one learning anything about this case.

Habibullah was apprehended after someone told he was bragging about the beating.

Thank you Richard for finding this article, this has been a hush hush sham from day one and I do hope it is not over. I am a very strong person, but I am shaken to my core by this news. I do so hope he does not just walk away from this, my faith in mankind is at an all time low. Please if anyone reads anything about this case please, please post it. We MUST ask for JUSTICE. 28. WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The U.S. Senate passed legislation on Thursday that would impose mandatory sanctions on individuals or companies that back efforts by China to restrict Hong Kong’s autonomy, pushing back against Beijing’s new security law for the city.

The measure also includes secondary sanctions on banks that do business with anyone found to be backing any crackdown on the territory’s autonomy, potentially cutting them off from American counterparts and limiting access to U.S. dollar transactions.

The “Hong Kong Autonomy Act” passed by unanimous consent. To become law, it must also pass the House of Representatives and be signed by President Donald Trump.

“The Americans came and killed Osama bin Laden in Abbottabad…martyred him. What happened after that? The entire world hurled abuses at us. Our own ally (US) entered our country and killed someone without even telling us about it. It was this big a humiliation”, the prime minister said.

Imran Khan went on to note that US actions and the war in Afghanistan have claimed the lives of nearly 70,000 Pakistanis…”
