Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. GoV – Brazilian Establishment Tries to Overthrow Bolsonaro

The continuous effort of the Brazilian establishment to overthrow President Bolsonaro has reached its maximum level

    by José Atento

Jair Bolsonaro was elected president of Brazil in November of 2018 because for most Brazilians he personified the opposition to many of the issues plaguing Brazil and Brazilians. First, the rampant corruption, notably from the leadership of the Labour Party (herein referred to as PT), which ruled Brazil for sixteen years. Secondly, the precarious situation of the Brazilian economy. PT squandered the economy. When PT rose to power in early 2000s, Brazil was a leading member of the BRICS. When PT left power, Brazil was basically bankrupt. Socialists are good at squandering economies.

Bolsonaro is anti-establishment, and in Brazil the establishment is predominantly of the Left. Bolsonaro spoke the language of the people, who are mostly nationalistic and Christian, disagree with gender ideology, are against abortion, and oppose big government, i.e., are against the flags of the Left.[…]

  6. Chinese Officials Tell Peasants to Take Political Responsibility| CCP Virus | COVID-19 | Coronavirus

    • We are seeing a lot of useful idiots and doom and gloomers talking about how China is in the cat bird seat and the west is lost but here are some of the facts they are ignoring.Possibly on orders from the CCP.

Don’t forget the way the Swine Flu took out between 1/3rd to 1/2 of the pigs being grown for consumption, then the Bird Flu took out about 1/2 of the Chickens on their Chinese commercial farms, then a Cold Snap in the North killed off some of the Winter Wheat and prevented the planting of rice.

China is going to get short of food this summer and winter and the CCP was so short sighted that they pissed off 2 of the 3 major food producers (the US and Australia) Canada and Russia will still be available but we don’t know what the crop yields will be in either nation. This and the economic damage from the West not buying very much from China is hurting the credibility of the CCP and the reports of a second wave of the Flu isn’t helping anything either. China is talking big but how much hard currency do they have to spend on the Belt and Road project? Especially with a lot of the countries pulling out of their deals with China.

  12. Al-Issa: Half of Daesh fighters are Western Muslims
    https://saudigazette.com.sa/article/592459/SAUDI-ARABIA/Al-Issa-Half-of-Daesh-fighters-are-Western-Muslims

“Half of Daesh (the so-called IS) terrorists are Muslims from the Western countries. They are more drawn to the so-called political Islam than adopting the true and whole religion which preaches peace and coexistence. This is a dangerous and negative phenomenon.

“Our task in the Muslim World League (MWL) is to explain and propagate the truth,” said Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, the Secretary General of the Muslim World League.

Some extremists, especially the hardcore elements, are provoking the extreme right to react. They are happy to see a growing chasm between Islam and the West, leading to a conflict which is often referred to as a clash of civilizations. The extremists survive and thrive on such conflicts and clashes. They indulge in acts of terror and violence everywhere, Sheikh Al-Issa, who is also chairman of the World Organization of Muslim Scholars, asserted during a TV program on MBC.

A political organization — the Muslim Brotherhood — disguising as a true representative of Islam is responsible for the rise of the so-called political Islam in the West, Sheikh Al-Issa claimed.

“They (the extremists) have reduced Islam, the great religion, to merely a political tool, while true Islam is devoid of any political motives and there are no misconceptions about the religious tenets,” he told the audience.

“Regrettably, the misconceptions have deliberately been created by the Muslim Brotherhood, especially among the religious minorities and some of them have been influenced by these misconceptions,” Sheikh Al-Issa added.

Commenting on the dialogue initiative with the leaders of the extremist right, Al-Issa said: “All of those from the extreme right with whom we initiated a dialogue, are now friends of the Muslim World League. We had a rational and logical dialogue based on true Islamic guidance and wisdom. It is a reality that we should all end up with.”

“Just 10 percent of the common factors (common grounds) can guarantee the establishment of peace and harmony in our world. People cannot coexist in absence of these common grounds. Everyone must realize that difference, diversity and pluralism are among the laws of Allah Almighty,” Al-Issa underlined.

The Muslim Brotherhood, he said, also operates on a wrong premise that there is an inevitable clash between Islam and the West. Therefore, if I engage in a discussion with the West with this premise, I won’t reach any agreement with them, but it may create more differences, deepening the chasm.”

Al-Issa called for increasing awareness among the religious minorities in the West, within the Islamic sphere in general, about insulating Islamic thought from the influence of the so-called political Islam or the ideas of the Muslim Brotherhood.

He drew attention to the fact that many of the clashes some Muslim youth indulge in are the result of the deviant thoughts exported to them.”

  14. Turkey vows to protect Libya from Haftar’s ‘military dictatorship’ (mee, Apr 29, 2020)
    https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/turkey-vows-protect-libya-from-khalifa-haftar-military-dictatorship

“Turkey has vowed to “defend” Libya’s UN-recognised government after eastern-based military commander Khalifa Haftar declared himself the ruler of North African country.

Turkey’s foreign ministry accused Haftar of trying to “create a military dictatorship” on Wednesday and said the military leader showed his true intentions when he withdrew from a landmark UN-brokered agreement to unite the country.

“Turkey will continue to stand by the Libyan people in defending the Government of National Accord and all other legitimate institutions… and to support the efforts for a political solution,” the foreign ministry said.

Turkey’s foreign ministry also urged the international community to respond to Haftar’s actions, adding that the military leader “undoubtedly exposed his intention to establish a junta regime in Libya”.

“With this announcement, Haftar has once again demonstrated that he does not seek a political solution to the crisis in Libya, does not support international efforts in this regard… and aims to create a military dictatorship in the country,” the ministry added.

The comments came after Haftar declared to have a “popular mandate” to govern the North African country, and said the 2015 UN agreement had “destroyed” Libya.

“The political agreement destroyed the country. We will work to create the conditions for building permanent civic institutions,” Haftar said in a televised address.

On Tuesday, the GNA responded to Haftar’s announcement, accusing him of staging a “coup”.

“It’s a farce and the latest in a long series of coups d’etat,” the government said in a statement.

    Russia and US react
Haftar, a former general under Muammar Gaddafi, has been leading an assault on the capital Tripoli since April 2019 with his self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA).

Although the LNA last year managed to advance into the southern suburbs of the city, it lost ground to pro-GNA forces during clashes this month.

Russia and the US urged both parties to resume political process, with Washington saying it “regrets” his nixing of the 2015 agreement.

“The United States regrets LNA commander Haftar’s suggestion that changes to #Libya’s political structure can be imposed by unilateral declaration and reiterates the call for an immediate humanitarian cessation of hostilities,” the US embassy in Libya said in a statement.

Although the US officially backs the GNA, Tripoli has accused Western powers of covertly backing the military leader.

Last year, after Donald Trump spoke on the phone with Haftar, the White House said in a statement that the US president “recognised Field Marshall Haftar’s significant role in fighting terrorism and securing Libya’s oil resources”.”

    • US rejects Haftar’s declaration as ruler of Libya
      https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200429-us-rejects-haftars-declaration-as-ruler-of-libya/

“The United States on Monday rejected Libyan National Army (LNA) commander, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar’s declaration as leader of Libya, describing his actions as “regretful”.

The US embassy in Tripoli said in a statement: “Changes in the Libyan political structure cannot be imposed through a unilateral declaration, adding that the embassy welcomes any opportunity to engage Haftar and all parties, in a serious dialogue on how to resolve the crisis and make progress in the country.”

The statement urged Haftar’s forces to join the internationally recognised Government of National Accord (GNA) in declaring an immediate cessation of hostilities on humanitarian grounds due to the month of Ramadan and the coronavirus pandemic.

The statement pointed out that an immediate cessation of hostilities will lead to a permanent ceasefire as stipulated in talks facilitated by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya on 23 February

Earlier on Monday, Haftar announced that he had accepted a “popular mandate” to rule the country and dismissed the 2015 UN- brokered agreement which led to the formation of the Tripoli-based GNA.”

  15. Saudi Arabia and Qatar look set to battle over English Premier League football rights
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200429-saudi-arabia-and-qatar-look-set-to-battle-over-english-premier-league-football-rights/

“Saudi Arabia has its eyes on claiming a greater slice of the English Premier League once its takeover of Newcastle United Football Club is approved. Riyadh is determined to get the even more lucrative TV rights to air Premier League matches.

All the paperwork for the takeover of Newcastle United is currently with the Premier League governing body, which is going through the formal checks to make sure that no rules have been broken in the transaction. Qatar, however, has claimed in a letter to the League that rules have indeed been broken which should disqualify the Saudi Public Investment Fund from taking ownership of one of Britain’s most well-known football clubs.

Nonetheless the Saudis are expected to be given the green light, a decision that would be seen as vindication of Riyadh, opening up new doors to a slice of the most lucrative football league in the world.

Doha has accused the Saudis of illegally streaming games which Qatar-based beIN Sports has the rights to, using a pirate Arabic-language television network. Riyadh was sued for $1 billion two years ago over the piracy case.

Qatar-based beIN Sports is the current holder of the rights to show Premier League football in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. Sources at Sportmail with Saudi connections said that the Saudis will challenge the Qataris for the rights to show Premier League games once the current deal expires in 2022.

“The Premier League and Champions League are huge in Saudi and, for the Premier League, it is an untapped market in terms of commercial gain,” former Sky Sports presenter and beIN host Richard Keys pointed out. He expressed his disapproval of the Newcastle takeover and suggested that beIN Sports will be worried about the arrival of the Saudi state as the owner of a Premier League football club.

“If the Newcastle takeover goes through as expected then Saudi will start preparing to buy the Premier League TV rights. It is an open tender process that is due to start next year and they have the financial power to outbid Qatar,” explained Keys. “’The Premier League are going to find other foreign broadcasters wanting reduced deals post-coronavirus and Saudi is the perfect opportunity to make up a large portion of that shortfall.”

Hatice Cengiz, the fiancée of the murdered Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, has also expressed concern over Saudi Arabia’s takeover of Newcastle United.”

  16. Ankara slams Egypt for remarks against Turkey
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20200429-ankara-slams-egypt-for-remarks-against-turkey/

“Turkey on Wednesday slammed a statement by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman on Libya, Anadolu reports.

By targeting Turkey, Ahmed Hafez is trying to cover up Egypt’s maneuvers in Libya, said Hami Aksoy, spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

“It is not surprising that the Egyptian administration supported Libya’s renegade commander Khalifa Haftar, who aims to establish a military dictatorship in Libya,” the Turkish official said in a statement.

By rejecting the Libyan Political Agreement, which was ratified by the UN Security Council Resolution 2259, to support warlord Haftar and claiming commitment to the process of the political solution in Libya is a grave contradiction, the statement added.

“If the Egyptian administration really wants to promote the political solution in Libya and cares about the well-being of the Libyan people, it should stop its support to Haftar’s coup attempts,” it said.

Haftar unilaterally declared himself the ruler of Libya on Monday, claiming that he “accepted the mandate of the Libyan people” and terming the Skhirat agreement of 2015 “a thing of the past.”

Since the ouster of late ruler Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, two seats of power have emerged in Libya: renegade military commander Khalifa Haftar in eastern Libya, supported by Egypt and the UAE, and the Government of National Accord in Tripoli, which enjoys UN and international recognition.

Haftar’s self-proclaimed Libyan National Army (LNA) launched a failed offensive to take Tripoli last April, which caused bloodshed and suffering but stalled on the outskirts of the city.”

  17. Oman urges public firms to speed up replacing foreigners with citizens
    https://english.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2020/4/29/omanisation-to-takeover-foreigners-jobs-by-july-2021

“Oman has ordered state-owned companies to accelerate the process of replacing foreign staff with Omani nationals, especially in senior positions, to create more jobs for its citizens.

The finance ministry gave public sector companies until July 2021 to draw up timetables to appoint Omanis in the place of foreign staff, including in managerial positions.

The ministry said large numbers of expatriates still occupied managerial posts in state-run firms.

Foreigners make up more than 40 percent of Oman’s population of 4.6 million, and have played a major role in the Gulf state’s development for several decades.”

  18. Iftar-to-go: German mosque delivers Ramadan meals to needy non-Muslims
    https://www.reuters.com/article/us-health-coronavirus-germany-iftar/iftar-to-go-german-mosque-delivers-ramadan-meals-to-needy-non-muslims-idUSKBN22B224

“A mosque in the western German city of Wuppertal is delivering meals to elderly Muslims unable to break the fast with their families due to lockdown as well as to non-Muslims struggling to make ends meet.

Volunteers at the mosque, run by one of Germany’s largest associations of mosques (DITIB), provide meals to anyone who places an order.

“People can’t go to the mosque so it’s really nice that they deliver it to my home,” said Nazmiye Odabasi, leaning over her window sill to pick up a sealed meal box, her hair covered with a small blue scarf.

Mustafa Temizer, a member of DITIB in Wuppertal, said the mosque had originally planned to deliver 1,000 meals a day to impoverished residents of the city who rely on food banks that were forced to close by the pandemic.

But as food banks reopened this month and Ramadan started last week, the mosque decided to deliver meals financed by donations to both Muslims breaking their daily fast at sunset and non-Muslims in need. Some 300 meals are delivered each day.

“We are not just serving members of our community but we are working with the city of Wuppertal,” said Temizer, standing near his silver car emblazoned with a sticker reading ‘Iftar delivery.’

“We added a lot of people in need to our list and we deliver to them too. They really appreciate it of course and the more people are hearing about this, the more sign up.”

Mosques, churches, synagogues and other houses of worship will be allowed to open their doors to the faithful starting on May 4 under hygiene rules that include limiting the number of people to 50.”
