Germany: Mass brawl in refugee shelter that was put under quarantine
A knife attack between residents of the refugee shelter on the Friedberg in Suhl has turned into a mass brawl.
In the night to today’s Thursday there had been “tumultuous incidents within the area”, as Daniel Wiegmann, the head of the Suhl fire brigade, said during the night. The perpetrators caused fear and terror in the facility. This turned into a brawl between about 50 residents. The men allegedly attacked each other with wooden sticks, iron bars and stones, according to the police. In the facility itself, fire extinguishers were used to spray around, which also triggered fire alarms. According to the fire department, there was no fire. In the widespread panic, a woman jumped out of the window on the third floor and broke her leg. She was taken to hospital. When the paramedics arrived, several men attacked the ambulance and hit it. A total of about seven people have been injured. Some of them so badly that they needed medical care. One man is in hospital with stab wounds, according to the police. But he is not critically injured. To treat numerous residents on site, the ambulance staff had erected a tent in front of the facility.

“GREECE is on the brink of facing a devastating onslaught of coronavirus cases unless “international communities step up” and support the country against the infection “that does not discriminate”.
Humanitarian groups are calling for the likes of the EU, World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations (UN) to help as the threat of coronavirus to the 100,000 refugees currently residing throughout the whole country erupted last week. The first cases of the virus were found in Malakasa and Ritsona camps, which have now been placed into lockdown following the emergence of the infection. The authorities said on Thursday last week the Ritsona camp was forced into shutdown after 20 people tested positive for COVID-19.
One of the places of biggest concern for aid organisations is on the Aegean islands, where there are around 50,000 refugees crammed into tiny unsafe conditions fit to home only 6,000.
Remarkably, there are still no cases of the killer virus within those camps – the latest updates say, but panic continues to grow surrounding the state of the facilities.
Marcus Skinner, Senior Policy Adviser for the International Rescue Committee, told Express.co.uk that groups had to act now to support the vulnerable in these camps because the virus “will come back” if they are not aided properly.
He said: “International communities must step up. There isn’t an alternative.
“This disease or any pandemic disease, you can’t contain it. If you ignore these vulnerable contexts, the disease will come back.
“So it’s in our own interests to do it from a national wellbeing and security perspective, but more importantly, apart from the fact that these are highly vulnerable people who require assistance at the best of times, we provide humanitarian assistance to Greece, Syria and elsewhere, and this is the double challenge we’re facing right now.
“This is a crisis being laid on top of a number of crises so it’s critical that the international communities step up.”
Earlier this week, Germany and Luxembourg were among a number of EU states looking to transfer children from these camps and into their own countries.
Germany’s foreign minister Heiko Maas said yesterday that his country was hoping to accept 500 unaccompanied minors before demanding other states follow suit.
Greece was positive with the response as, according to New Europe, the country’s alternate migration and asylum minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos said the move was “being achieved despite the difficult circumstances of the pandemic and has created a positive example to other European partners”.
It is all part of a scheme created and adopted by the EU last month which will see Germany, Luxembourg, Croatia, Finland, France, Ireland, Lithuania, and Portugal take the youngsters from the Greek islands to help ease the devastation caused by overcrowding in the refugee camps.
And despite this gesture to aid Greece, which has become a hub for migrants moving from war torn countries after Turkey disobeyed an EU pact over migration control, Mr Skinner is still adamant that the issue could still become a major crisis.
He added: “The challenge we face is how you make the case for this when, understandably, western nations are inward looking at the moment, and I think that comes back to the point that this virus does not discriminate.
“You have to address it everywhere if we’re going to protect the populations of western Europe as well as elsewhere.
“But also there is a moral responsibility for continuing to support those whose lives have been wrecked by conflict and displacement and the camps in Greece are a kind of shocking example of that on Europe’s border.“
So far Greece has recorded around 1,700 cases of coronavirus and at least 68 deaths since it announced its first case in February.”

Iran: Ramadan events may be put on hold to curb coronavirus spread – Khamenei
Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said mass gatherings in Iran may have to be put on hold through the holy Muslim month of Ramadan to help curb the coronavirus outbreak. The remarks were delivered in a televised address on Tehran on Thursday.
“In the absence of these meetings, remember to heed your prayers and devotions in your lonesomeness,” explained Khamenei.
During the address, Iran’s Supreme Leader called for the people of Iran to remain vigilant of western media attempts of propaganda.
“The coronavirus issue should not cause us to neglect enemies’ plots, the arrogance’s plots,” said Khamenei.
As of Thursday, there have been 64,586 confirmed coronavirus cases and almost 4,000 deaths after being tested for the disease, according to data published by Johns Hopkins University.
Belgium: Von der Leyen calls on EU states to lift medicines export ban amid coronavirus pandemic
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen called on the EU member states to lift the export ban on medicines in order to avoid shortages amid the coronavirus emergency in Europe.
In a video address delivered from Brussels on Wednesday, von der Leyen stressed that the priority of the European Union is “to ensure that Europeans have access to the medicines they need during this public health crisis.”
The President explained that the ban removal will allow redistribution of the medicines inside the EU.
In addition, von der Leyen requested the member states to limit the online sale of the medicines necessary for the treatment of the coronavirus patients and called on the national authorities to fight with disinformation about the pandemic, explaining that it causes massive stockpiling by the citizens as part of the panic buying.

On 30 March, Glenn Fine, principal deputy inspector general and acting inspector general for the Department of Defense, was placed in the IG oversight role on the Pandemic Response Accountability Committee. This was done, reportedly (see links below), based on the proposal of a group of federal IGs.
On Friday 3 April, Trump nominated Brian Miller, former IG for the General Services Administration, to fill the IG role for the specially designated $500 billion coronavirus relief fund administered by the Treasury Department. Politico noted positive reactions to this nomination at the time.
On Monday 6 April, Trump nominated the selfsame Brian Miller to fill what appears to be the role Glenn Fine had been placed in on 30 March.

‘Alexa, help me.’ Nursing home virus patient asked smart speaker for help dozens of times before death
CEDAR SPRINGS, Mich. (WOOD) — In the days leading up to LouAnn Dagen’s death from COVID-19, the Metron nursing home patient repeatedly asked her Amazon Echo Show for help with her pain.
Dagen, 66, died Saturday shortly after her arrival at the Mercy Health Saint Mary’s emergency room in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Dagen was one of 31 residents and five staff members who tested positive for COVID-19 at the nursing home, which is now called Mission Point. The residents with COVID-19 are quarantined away from the rest of the community’s population.
It wasn’t until after her death that her sister, Penny Dagen, discovered the recordings from the Amazon device in her sister’s room at Metron.
“Alexa, help me,” LouAnn Dagen said in one of the exchanges.
There appeared to be 40 such recordings over the last three or four days of her life.

Recall, FBI counter-intel chief Peter Strzok opened a CI investigation into Trump’s campaign in July of 2016 dubbed ‘Crossfire Hurricane,’ based on bogus claims his camp was working with the Russians.
Barr said what happened to Trump was one of the greatest travesties in American history.
Even more alarming was the pattern of events after the campaign to sabotage Trump’s presidency.
“I think what happened to him [Trump] was one of the greatest travesties in American history, and without any basis they started this investigation of his campaign, and even more concerning, actually is what happened after the campaign, a whole pattern of events while he was president to sabotage the presidency,” said Barr.

Last May Barr appointed US Attorney from Connecticut John Durham to investigate the origins of Spygate.
According to reports, Durham is focusing on former CIA Director John Brennan’s role in Spygate and his lies to Congress.
Hillary’s phony Russia dossier was not only used by the FBI to obtain a FISA warrant on Carter Page, it was also used in the Intelligence Community’s report.
James Comey told the FBI in an email chain in December of 2016 that CIA Director John Brennan insisted on including the dossier in the IC assessment, but the CIA is claiming that it was James Comey who made the recommendation and it was Brennan and DNI chief James Clapper who objected.
Brennan also may have perjured himself during a May 2017 testimony about the dossier.
Recall, in a May 2017 testimony, John Brennan vehemently denied the phony dossier made its way into the IC assessment that was released in January 2017 that concluded Russia interfered in the 2016 election “to help Trump’s chances of victory.”
Brennan also swore to Congress that he didn’t know who commissioned the phony dossier even though it was widely known by senior DOJ, FBI and NatSec officials that Hillary Clinton paid for the document.
The Durham investigation is supposed to wind down some time between June and September, according to reports.

Pennsylvania officials are seeking access to critical medical supplies and equipment from an abandoned rural hospital at the center of a fraud scandal involving Joe Biden’s brother, James Biden.
Ellwood City Medical Center in Pennsylvania, which is currently controlled by a court-appointed bankruptcy trustee, was one of a string of rural hospitals owned by and driven into financial ruin by Americore Health, a business venture linked to James Biden.
In late January, FBI officials raided the Ellwood City Medical Center and the home of Americore CEO Grant White as part of an ongoing criminal investigation, according to court records.
Local officials said the bankrupt Ellwood City hospital, which was shuttered by the Department of Health in November due to public safety risks, could be reopened to treat an influx of patients due to the COVID-19 crisis. They said it could also have unused personal protection equipment, ventilators, and other medical supplies that are needed for the state’s coronavirus response efforts. But city and county officials said they are not legally allowed to access the building because they don’t own the property.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency has been considering whether to designate the facility as part of its coronavirus response efforts. But the agency is “still in the deciding process,” an aide at state representative Aaron Bernstine’s office told the Washington Free Beacon on Wednesday.

The April 9 hearing in Jakarta was held by video conference due to coronavirus concerns as lawyers and judges wearing face masks heard the indictment against 51-year-old Syahril Alamsyah and his wife Fitri Adriana, 21.
The attempted assassination happened in October when Indonesia’s then security minister Wiranto, who goes by one name, was visiting Pandeglang regency on Java island.
“The two decided that the husband would attack Wiranto while the wife would attack anyone else wearing police or military uniforms,” the indictment said.
Alamsyah allegedly stabbed the now 73-year-old minister as he exited a vehicle before he and his wife were wrestled to the ground by security personnel.
Wiranto survived the attack, but he sustained knife wounds to his abdomen and several other people were also injured.
The couple could face life sentences or even the death penalty if convicted under Indonesia’s terrorism laws.
Days before the attack, the pair pledged allegiance to late Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, according to the indictment…”

Turkey rescues 13 Syrian refugees forced from Greek waters

“Turkey said it rescued 13 Syrian refugees in the Aegean Sea on Thursday after the Greek coast guard pushed them back into Turkish territorial waters.
Turkish security sources told the Anadolu news agency that the 13 Syrians, including children, were rescued by the Turkish Coast Guard from a rubber boat off the coast of Bodrum in the country’s southwestern region.
Tens of thousands of migrants have tried to get into the European Union via Greece after Turkey said in February that it would no longer prevent them from doing so, as agreed in a 2016 deal with the EU in return for aid for Syrian refugees.
More than 40,000 asylum seekers are now stuck in camps on islands close to Turkey.
Greek authorities have been accused of using force against refugees and migrants approaching by both sea and land. Footage has shown the country’s coastguard pushing back boats and firing into the nearby water.
Refugees who tried to enter Greece through the land border also accused its authorities of beating them, confiscating their belongings and then sending them back to Turkey.
Earlier on Thursday, Greece said it would transfer about 60 unaccompanied children from overcrowded migrant camps to Luxembourg and Germany next week as worries mount about the coronavirus pandemic.
At least 5,200 unaccompanied minors live in Greece, many of them under harsh conditions in camps on islands in the Aegean. About a dozen European nations have expressed a willingness to take in a number of them.
Germany said on Wednesday that it will accept 50 children and youths after the first coronavirus cases were confirmed among migrants last week in Greece.
The first 12 children will travel to Luxembourg next Wednesday and 50 more at the end of next week to Germany after medical tests, Greek deputy Migration Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos told reporters.
Turkey has been one of the main routes for asylum seekers wanting to reach Europe, especially since the large influx of Syrian refugees coming out of the country’s civil war that began in 2011.
Turkey hosts around 4 million Syrian refugees and has repeatedly complained that Europe has failed to keep its promises under the 2016 refugee deal to help migrants and stem further migrant waves.
Meanwhile, rights groups have accused both Turkey and Europe of playing a dangerous game with the lives of refugees by using them as a tool for political concessions.”

“The Yemen Press Agency has reported that a southern journalist has posted a document purporting to show the extent of the relationship between the US-supported, Saudi-led coalition and the terrorist group Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) in the central Yemeni province of Al-Baydah.
“An official document from the al-Humiqani tribe warns Saudi-led coalition against sending weapons to terrorist organizations through the Al-Rashad Party, Muslim Brotherhood and terrorist Abdul Rahman Abu al-Harith al-Humiqani, who is affiliated with Daesh,” said Salah Bin Laghbar, posted on Twitter. He speculated that it is part of escalat ions by Saudi-backed terrorist forces against the south, in which UAE-backed separatists are presently in control of the UN-recognised government’s de facto capital, Aden. The letter was addressed to the commander of the Saudi-led coalition, Brigadier General Mujahid Al-Otaibi.
In another, Laghbar explained that a second document from the Saudi Ministry of Defence is said to have directed the coalition to transfer weapons to the same person his tribe warned against. If true, warned the journalist, the ignorance of the coalition will lead to a major disaster.

US stops Russian advances in Syria

“Russia’s efforts to form military units in Syria’s Al-Hasakah province have been foiled by the US, according to local sources, Anadolu Agency reports.
Moscow and Washington continue fighting for control east of Euphrates River.
Russia was trying to recruit insurgents from local militias in Amuda and Tel Tamer towns, which are occupied by the YPG group, said the sources requesting anonymity due to fear of reprisal.
The US forces took action after Russia advanced toward these areas last December.
The Americans met the local people several times asking them not to join the Russian ranks.
The source also said the US warned people that “Russia will use those who join their ranks as mercenaries in Libya”.
It was reported that Russia gave up on this plan because the number of applications to join the military units was under 100.
According to Russia and YPG’s deal, those who join the ranks would be trained by the organization.

After Turkey started Operation Peace Spring on Oct. 9, 2019, against the YPG, Russian forces took over some bases emptied by the US forces.
Since then, Russia increased its bases in areas occupied by YPG, east of the Euphrates river.
In the province of Al-Hasakah, Raqqa, Manbij and Ayn al-Arab (Kobani), Russia has 18 bases and 700 military elements.
Russian forces penetrated the region after Operation Peace Spring, trying to reach the Rmelan oil fields east of Qamishli, but the US soldiers prevented them.

“Shelling in Tripoli has stopped 280 migrants, whose boat was intercepted at sea and returned to Libya, from disembarking and they will have to spend the night aboard a coastguard ship, the United Nations migration agency said on Thursday.
“The situation is tragic. Hundreds of people, drained after a perilous 72-hour journey. They will spend the night on an overcrowded boat in tense circumstances,” said Federico Soda, head of the International Organisation for Migration’s Libya mission, in a statement.
It was not immediately which countries the migrants were from but Libya is a major way station for migrants attempting to travel from Africa to Europe.
At least six boats have left Libya this month carrying about 500 people attempting the sea-crossing to Europe, though Italy has declared its ports unsafe due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Officials in Tripoli said the intensity of shelling on Thursday, some of which had previously targeted the port, meant it was not safe for disembarkation, IOM said.
The IOM is providing them with water and food, it said. A curfew in Tripoli to help stop the spread of the coronavirus is also complicating efforts to bring them off the ship, it added.”
