This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

War is hell, General Sherman said that and it is true war is pure distilled hell that brings out the worst in men. But it also brings out the best in men, the men who think a cause is greater then they and at time worth more.
Lets start with the legend of Horatio at the bridge, In the early days of Rome the city was being attacked and one bridge was about to fall to the invaders giving them an opening into Rome. Horatio stood at the far side of the bridge fighting the enemy while his men destroyed the bridge. Legend says he then dived into the river (in full armor and swam to safety, he probably died.
Lets now go to WWI and the Battle of Belleau Wood, the US Marine expedationary force was under heavy attack, they had already suffered 60% causalities and it looked like them might lose. Gunnery Sargent Dan Daley stood up in the heavy German fire and yelled, “Come on you apes you wanna live forever” and charged the attacking Germans. His men and the other Marines followed him into hell and drove the Germans not just back to the positions that they held at the start of the battle but out of them. He was awarded his second Medal of Honor for that action. He received his first for actions during the seige of Peking. At the time of the awards this was the only medal the US gave, during the 80 a commission of officers was told to re-evulate all of the Medal of Honors that had been awarded and reduce them to modern medals if the commission thought that was what should happen. Gunny Daley’s medals were left as Medals of Honor. FYI, when he heard of the battle the Kaiser called the Marines Devil Dogs.
World War II a fighter pilot Marine Captain Richard E. Fleming. Fleming was awarded the medal for diving his fighter bomber into a Japanese Cruiser and setting it afire.
Rodger Young, he had been a Sargent but tuned in his stripes when his hearing got so bad he thaought he was a risk to him men. He was sent on one last patrol before being shipped home to be discharged for medical reasons. While on the patrol “private” Young crawled up on a Japanese machine gun nest he then threw a grenade into the machine gun nest then ran up to destroy the gun. He saw a Japanese column approaching and turned the machine gun on them screaming at the partrol to get back and tell headquarters about the coming attack. He then opened fire on the Japanese column. After the battle a partol went out to see if they could get “Private” Young back. They found him in the machine gun nest out of ammor and riddled with bullets, he died but he covered the retreat of his men as the obeyed his orders to warn the unit of the coming attack.
In WWII the Battle of the Bulge was won by running the Germans out of gas, part of the reason that they ran out of gas was because as the American units were retreating individual soldiers and at times squads said to hell with this, they can kill me but the can’t make me run any further. They dug in and fought, they died and at times were captured but the delayed the advance giving Patton time to move his Army Corps’ into position to attack the Germans on their flank.
Lieutenant Audi Murphy (yes the actor) who climbed onto a burning tank destroyer to hold back a German attack while his men retreated back to the woods like and set up a defensive position. He was finally able to leave the machine gun on the tank destroyer and run for the woods but was shot in the back before he reached cover. His men went out and brought him back to cover, his wounds got him a medical discharge but his actions led to his being awarded the Medal of Honor. (find the movie “To Hell and Back the Audi Murphy story”, he plays himself in that movie. Depending who which account want to believe Audi is suppose to have killed over 100, over 200 or over 400 Germans.
In Viet Nam there were numerous cases of man diving on live hand grenades to to the best of my knowledge only one man survived and he survived because the grenade was defictive and took much longer then normal to detonate. He realized that his friends were no longer in the position and got up and ran for cover, the grenade exploded as he reached cover. He said the action was automatic to cover his friends.
The original American Sniper Carlos Hathcock US Marine sniper in Nam, he was just about to be shipped home when orders came down to send a lone sniper into kill a North Vietnamese General. He volunteered because he thought it was a suicide mission and didn’t any any of his men killed. The chopped dropped him at the LZ and he headed to the compound where the General lived. Once there it took him 3 days to crawl several hundred yards to a small knoll in the middle of the open area that he compund was next to. Once on the knoll he took his time, identify the General and shot him, the NV’s though the shot came from the jungle and opened up on the logical firing places. He then took 1 day to crawl to the woods, got up and headed to the LZ. You can find videos about him and by him on Youtube, he said he identified the General by the way he was waving his hands around while giving orders. He had 78 registered kills and his unofficial count was over 350.

As the chaos spreads the people will arm themselves no matter what the law says, and the danger of that is not the people arming themselves but the fact that they are holding one or more laws in contempt. Once you start holding one law in contempt you end up holding all laws in contempt. This fact use to be known to Western Politicians who (for the most part) worked to avoid that result. The left who holds the vast majority of the population in contempt ignore this and end up creating revolutions to remove the politicians that hold the public in contempt.
Look at what is happening in China, the people have lost their respect for the politicians and the law and are starting to fight the police. If this continues and the signs are that China is getting a second wave of the CCP virus that is worse then the first wave. The way the CCP look down on everyone that isn’t a high ranking CCP member is going to cause the CCP to lose control of China. The same thing is happening in Iran, the very real possibility of our getting rid of the Mullahs and the CCP is the sliver lining in a very dark cloud.
Not Crossware, but I’ll give it a go: If you watch old (fairly recent) interviews of Peter Szijjarto (Hungary’s foreign minister, name not easy to spell) by the Western Media, it’s obvious they thought then that Viktor Orban was a Hitler in the making because of his stand on migrants and (shudder) the family and Christianity. So xenophobic and hateful and racist and all the rest.!

Where I live (BC) it was on the Nightly News recently that the one thriving local business is the gun shop. People have been buying guns, ostensibly to hunt for food, but one client admitted on camera that with an uncertain future he was buying it to protect his home and family. It’s probably happening in many places. With non stop Covid19 coverage everywhere some people are preparing for the worst.

This is one of the reasons China has once again decided to expand their borders and why they are removing the Uighur men and sending Han men to live in the houses with the woman and kids. PAKISTAN – Omar Sheikh, a tale of terror trail, to walk free in Pakistan in Daniel Pearl case
Omar Sheikh, the terrorist freed from Tihar Jail in 1999 plane hijack episode, walks free in journalist Daniel Pear beheading case of 2002 in Pakistan.
Born in London to Pakistani parents, he is an enigmatic star in the dark world of jihadi terror. Pervez Musharraf mentioned him in his book. He went to London School of Economics. He was incarcerated in the Tihar Jail of Delhi and his story revolves around two of the most documented plane hijack terror plots. He was sentenced to death for killing American journalist Daniel Pearl. He will now walk free in Pakistan. He is Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh.
A Pakistani court accepted his appeal against the death penalty and commuted his sentence to seven years in prison. He already has served more. He will walk free though the government prosecutor in Pakistan said he will challenge the judgment.
His release order is linked to reports of confession by 9/11 accused Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, who in 2007 claimed to have killed Daniel Pearl. Three other accused in the case have been acquitted.
Daniel Pearl was the South Asia bureau chief for the Wall Street Journal when he was kidnapped and beheaded by terrorists in 2002. The kidnappers initially demanded that all the Pakistani terrorists lodged in Guantanamo Bay prison of the CIA be released in exchange for Daniel Pearl, a video of whose beheading had been sent to the US consulate in Karachi and whose severed body was recovered later.
Omar Sheikh’s name cropped up in this connection. He was arrested and convicted the same year in Pakistan, which had played a role in his release from an Indian jail through its non-state actors – simply put, the terrorists acting at the behest of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of the Pakistan Army.
Omar Sheikh had been arrested in India in 1994 in connection with kidnapping of four foreigners – three British and an American from Delhi. The kidnapping was in the series of similar acts of terror since insurgency erupted in Jammu and Kashmir in 1989.
Omar Sheikh had befriended the four tourists identifying himself as one Rohit Sharma, who uncle had died leaving him a huge property in village. He convinced the foreigners to see his village. The three British nationals were first picked up and taken to Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. They were locked up there.
The American national was held up at a house in Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. The discovery of the foreigners happened accidentally as a team of police following the trail of a robbery case stumbled across the house where the American had been kept. The investigation revealed the terror plot and the British nationals were also freed.
Omar Sheikh was convicted after a trial. Interestingly, a Washington Post report of 2002 said the ISI paid legal fees during the trial of Omar Sheikh. He was lodged in the Tihar Jail till 1999, when a Pakistan-based terror group hijacked Air India flight from Kathmandu to New Delhi.
The hijackers took the airbus to Kandahar and forced Indian government to release four most wanted terrorists lodged in Indian jails. One was Omar Sheikh while among others was Masood Azhar, the chief of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed which he floated after his release from Indian jail.
Omar Sheikh went on to have links with Al-Qaeda of Osama bin Laden. His role also cropped up in the FBI investigation into the 9/11 terror attack in the US.
It was suspected that Omar Sheikh sent $1,00,000 to Mohammed Atta — the Egyptian hijacker and a key conspirator of 9/11 terror attacks in the US in 2001 — using an alias under the instruction from the ISI. The investigation report on this connection never became public but the then ISI chief Mahmud Ahmed resigned as FBI investigation headed in the direction of Pakistan’s spy agency.
Some said he was sacked under, pressure from the US, by then Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf. Interestingly, Musharraf claimed in his autobiography, In The Line of Fire, that Omar Sheikh was an agent of the British intelligence agency, MI6, which had hired him when he was studying at the LSE. Omar Sheikh had dropped out of the LSE in the first year itself.

NYT – Pakistani Court Overturns Conviction in 2002 Killing of Daniel Pearl
The court found there was sufficient evidence to convict Ahmed Omar Sheikh of abducting Mr. Pearl, a Wall Street Journal reporter, but not of killing him.
ISLAMABAD, Pakistan — A Pakistani court on Thursday overturned the murder conviction and death sentence of Ahmed Omar Sheikh, a British-born militant who had been convicted of masterminding the 2002 abduction and killing of the American journalist Daniel Pearl, lawyers said.
The court also overturned the convictions of three other men who had been serving life sentences in the case. All four men were expected to be freed soon, lawyers said.
Mr. Pearl, a reporter for The Wall Street Journal, was abducted in January 2002 in the city of Karachi, while working on an article about Pakistani militant groups with links to Al Qaeda. He was later beheaded.
A two-member bench of the Sindh High Court in Karachi, headed by Justice Mohammad Karim Khan Agha, found that there had been sufficient evidence to convict Mr. Sheikh of kidnapping, but not of murder, said Mr. Sheikh’s lawyer, Khawaja Naveed Ahmed. “The court ruled that the charge of abduction was proven,” he said.
The court reduced Mr. Sheikh’s sentence to seven years. Because he has been imprisoned for 18 years, he was expected to go free along with Fahad Saleem, Syed Salman Saqib and Sheikh Muhammad Adil, the three other men whose convictions were overturned, Mr. Ahmed said.
Lawyers said the court had not yet issued a detailed ruling, only a brief order.
Soon after Mr. Pearl’s killing, Pakistan’s government, then led by President Pervez Musharraf, moved quickly to arrest Mr. Sheikh and the other men, amid a global outcry and pressure from the United States.
But a 2011 report, based on investigative work by students and faculty at the journalism program of Georgetown University and the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists, cast doubt on the four men’s convictions. It found that Mr. Sheikh and the three other men had been involved in the plot to abduct Mr. Pearl but were not responsible for his murder.
American officials have said that they believed Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, the accused mastermind of the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, had personally carried out Mr. Pearl’s murder.
Mr. Sheikh, a British national who was trained in camps in Pakistan and Afghanistan, belonged to the militant group Jaish-e-Muhammad at the time of his 2002 arrest. Pakistani investigators said Mr. Sheikh lured Mr. Pearl by offering him an interview with an Islamic cleric who had ties to Richard C. Reid, the so-called shoe bomber, who was accused of trying to blow up a trans-Atlantic flight in December 2001 with explosives in his sneakers.
Mr. Sheikh has made headlines from his cell over the years. In 2008, soon after Pakistani militants carried out terror attacks in Mumbai, Mr. Sheikh managed to place a call to then-President Asif Ali Zardari, pretending to be the Indian foreign minister and warning of an attack by India. In 2016, the Pakistani military announced that it had foiled a plan to free Mr. Sheikh from prison.

EU Court of Justice says Poland, Hungary & Czech Republic broke law by refusing to host refugees
The European Union’s top court has ruled that Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic broke the law by refusing to host refugees to help ease the burden on southern states such as Greece and Italy after a surge in migrant arrivals from 2015.
The ruling underscores Europe’s bitter divisions over migration, though the three ex-communist nations face no immediate penalty as the relocation of tens of thousands of people agreed by the EU was only envisaged until 2017.
“By refusing to comply with the temporary mechanism for the relocation of applicants for international protection, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic have failed to fulfil their obligations under European Union law,” the Luxembourg-based Court of Justice of the European Union said in its ruling.
The eurosceptic, nationalist governments on the EU’s eastern flank had cited national security reasons in refusing to take in any of the mostly Muslim refugees and migrants who had fled wars and poverty in the Middle East, North Africa and beyond.
Frontline states such as Italy and Greece complained angrily over the lack of European solidarity as they struggled with mass arrivals that overwhelmed their security and welfare systems.
Wealthy northern European states such as Germany also criticised the ex-communist east for refusing to help while continuing to benefit from generous EU financial aid.
More than a million people reached Europe’s shores from across the Mediterranean in 2015, catching the EU unprepared as they trekked across the continent and triggering a new wave of support in some quarters for far-right, anti-immigrant parties.
The EU has since cracked down on immigration, fortifying its external borders and offering money and aid to countries such as Turkey to help prevent migrants from heading to Europe.
But the internal EU divisions on migration are far from healed. The 2015 mass influx of migrants at least partly contributed to Britain’s 2016 decision to leave the EU, in the worst setback for European integration since World War Two.
The EU now faces a fresh test of its unity from the Covid-19 pandemic, with member states mostly pursuing their own strategies to counter the spread of the disease and the worst affected nations – Italy and Spain – again complaining of a lack of European solidarity and aid.

Germany: Toilet paper drive-in set up by Dornburg store in response to coronavirus panic buying
A convenience store set up a drive-in toilet paper campaign in Dornburg, Hessen, on Wednesday in response to the increasing demand for the hygienic product amid the coronavirus outbreak.
“I thought I better call before I go there, as it may be an April’s fools prank,” said customer Kornelius Schaub, as he discovered the advertisement online.
The campaign began after the store manager Andreas Hoffman got a larger lot of toilet paper through the dealer network due to the increasing demand.
“Every second costumer came into our business and asked us for toilet paper. Because we had no article [toilet paper] at all in our assortment, we then had the idea to get a large amount of them,” Hoffman said.
“We were only able to allow 10 costumers at a time and so we quickly talked about organising a toilet paper drive-in,” explained store employee Annette Neizug.
The campaign came up after the toilet paper have become one of the most demanded products during the coronavirus outbreak.

Malaysia-based Algerian Islamic scholar Sheikh Zoubir Bouchikhi, who had been the imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston until he was deported from the United States in 2011 for immigration-related charges, taught a women’s class at Riyad Al-Jannah, the mosque in Malaysia where he is currently the imam.
The video was uploaded to Riyad Al-Jannah’s YouTube channel on March 20, 2020.
During the class, Sheikh Bouchikhi said that Muslims should not try to hide aspects of the Prophet Muhammad’s life, like the fact that he was a warrior and that he married Aisha when she was 9 or 14 years old.
He said that people only see this as immoral because of their “sick minds” and that only Allah decides what is moral.
In addition, Sheikh Bouchikhi said that disbelievers are the worst of Allah’s creations, that they are worse than animals, and that Muslims should treat them accordingly and feel sorry for them.
He also explained that Muslims should ignore and not even visit or associate themselves with other Muslims who are not sufficiently observant, including family members like a sick uncle who doesn’t pray or a niece who parades around wearing a miniskirt.
To further elaborate his point, Sheikh Bouchikhi referred to a verse in the Quran in which Allah commanded the wives of certain men who did not go to Jihad with the Prophet Muhammad to not speak to their husbands.
Sheikh Bouchikhi added: “Their own children didn’t speak to them.”
Sheikh Zoubir Bouchikhi, an Algerian native, had moved with his family to the United States in 2003.

“The uncertainty and volatility triggered by the coronavirus pandemic currently impacting all walks of life has prompted a surge in demand for physical gold as the “currency of last resort”, with the precious metal enjoying a historic rally.
Gold dealers are struggling to supply clients with small gold bars and coins, particularly popular among retail investors, amid a drastic shortage generated by surging demand, reports Bloomberg.
Desperately contacting clients in the search for those willing to sell their gold bars and coins, some dealers are offering exorbitant premiums of up to 10-15 per cent over spot prices, while others have all but given up amid the dramatic demand on the one hand, and disruption triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic on the other. “People want to buy, not to sell gold,” Mark O’Byrne, the founder of GoldCore, a dealer based in Dublin, is quoted as saying.
The dealer adds:
“We have a buyers’ waiting list and we emailed our clients seeing who wished to sell their gold. At this time there is roughly only one or two sellers for every 99 buyers.”
Those anxious to buy gold bars are prepared to pay well above the per-ounce prices cited on financial markets.
One of the factors impacting the current dramatic shortage is product size, as experts explain that while large bars of 400 ounces used by banks and investors are readily available at big trading hubs, a regular person seeking to invest in physical gold would hardly be prepared to splurge on a $600,000 bar. The practical solution for individuals driven by the worrying global situation is to invest in kilobars, weighing around 32 ounces, 1-ounce bars and coins, or something smaller.
It is these items that are becoming increasingly difficult to procure.
he second reason for the shortage is the supply challenges, as global travel has practically ground to a halt due to the lockdowns and other emergency protocols in place over the pandemic. Operation of some refineries and mints has stopped similarly due to local lockdowns.
Markus Krall, chief executive of German precious-metals retailer Degussa, said he had never witnessed such high premiums, as average price of products in shops was currently between 10 -15 per cent over spot prices. The surging demand, said Krall, was also unprecedented.
Not all products were sparking equally elevated premiums, as gold kilobars manufactured by Argor-Heraeus SA, a big Swiss refiner who had been forced to shut down operations last week due to the COVID-19 pandemic, were selling for over 6 per cent above spot prices, said analyst Ronan Manly.
“We are seeing an unprecedented situation where huge customer demand and the disconnect between physical prices and spot prices is driving buy premiums high,” he said.
Spot prices in London or New York “are completely detached from the reality on the ground,” Manly, an analyst at Singapore dealer BullionStar, was quoted by Bloomberg as saying.
Previously, a note from Goldman Sachs dated 23 March suggested the time was ripe to buy gold.
“We are beginning to see a similar pattern emerge as gold prices stabilized over the past week and rallied today as the Fed introduced new liquidity injection facilities with this morning’s announcement,” Goldman Sachs analysts led by Jeffrey Currie said, after the Federal Reserve announced unprecedented actions on Monday to boost the economy amid the coronavirus pandemic. Unveiled measures included unlimited bond-buying and facilities to aid companies and workers.”

Two military officials in Egypt recorded a spike in IS attacks in March in the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula while security forces foiled another three major assaults.
The virus has spread to Syria and Iraq, with the coronavirus pandemic prompting the US-led coalition to halt training activities in Iraq amid a planned pullout from several bases.
There are signs elsewhere that other militaries, including the US and British, are pulling back because of the virus which could leave a possible opening for extremists to attack.

He said their fighters are likely to exploit the pandemic by accusing governments of mismanaging the crisis in an attempt to win popular support.

In propaganda communiques this week, ISIS and al-Qaeda have each claimed that the highly contagious and deadly coronavirus is God’s wrath upon the West, and the disease itself is a “soldier of Allah,” as one ISIS supporter recently said in an online chatroom, according to the private SITE Intelligence Group.

COVID-19 has killed more than 47,000 people worldwide but there are relatively few cases in regions where Islamist extremist groups have their strongholds, such as in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the Arabian Peninsula and the Sahel region of North Africa.
ISIS on Tuesday in its official online publication al-Naba said the pandemic’s impact — it has killed more Americans as of this week than the nearly 3,000 who died in al-Qaeda’s 9/11 attacks — shows that America isn’t all-powerful and invincible.
“It is falsehood to worship America and to fear it instead of Allah the Almighty,” ISIS said in its message.
Terrorism experts point out that we have heard all of this before. Jihadi groups have a propensity for calling any natural disaster the will of God exacting vengeance on western powers who have been waging war on them for more than two decades.
“This is apocalyptic fervor. It plays into their end-of-times rhetoric,” Col. Chris Costa, a retired Army intelligence officer whose career focused on jihadist adversaries, told ABC News. “They are opportunistic and taking advantage of a pandemic by suggesting this is divine retribution. If they can’t beat us on the battlefield they can beat us through God’s vengeance, they believe.”
In an op-ed for DefenseOne this week, Costa, a former Trump White House counterterrorism adviser who now is director of the International Spy Museum, argued that the U.S. cannot allow the coronavirus to cause the U.S. to take its foot off the accelerator in confronting enemies such as jihadi groups and right-wing extremists.
In its long communique, al-Qaeda drilled down on the economic impact of COVID-19, which brought America’s booming economy to a dead stop and caused the filing of 4 million unemployment claims and forced Congress to adopt Trump’s $2 trillion emergency stimulus plan.
Bleeding the U.S. economy dry has always been a goal of the terrorist group, and the financial cost of 9/11 was something its late leader Osama Bin Laden often spoke of as a great success.
“ISIS is taking a totalitarian vision, whereas al-Qaeda is trying for hearts and minds” by calling on westerners to use time at home to study Islam and consider joining with jihadis, said Aaron Zelin, an ISIS expert and author of the new book, “Your Sons Are at Your Service: Tunisia’s Missionaries of Jihad.”
Both al-Qaeda and its Taliban allies promote ways to avoid the disease spreading around the world, offering social services to Muslims “like they’re jihadis in business suits.”
Will it succeed? Zelin and Costa expressed skepticism that either the “god’s vengeance” or soft-power approaches will draw in a significant number of converts and recruits.
“They may draw some troubled personalities and in-betweeners, folks on the extreme edges of society,” Costa said.
Both groups have called upon followers to be ready to strike in violent attacks, and federal law enforcement and the NYPD in bulletins have each urged officers to remain vigilant even as thousands of cops nationwide have been put on sick leave or tested positive for COVID-19.
“The last thing they hope for today, is that this difficult time will coincide with the preparations of the soldiers of the Caliphate for new strikes on them, similar to those of Paris, London, and Brussels and elsewhere,” ISIS said on Tuesday in its al-Naba publication.
In a warning late last week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security told police around the country that there are no known plots.
“Violent extremists probably are seeking to exploit public fears associated with the spread of COVID-19 to incite violence, intimidate targets and promote their ideologies, and we assess these efforts will intensify in the coming months,” according to the intelligence bulletin, compiled by the agency’s Counterterrorism Mission Center and Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction Office, and obtained by ABC News.
“I think there is a legitimate concern of some kind of action that takes advantage of our vulnerability right now,” Costa said.
There is no telling where the coronavirus will strike in the coming months but spinning natural disasters in the homelands of their enemies is a default reaction by jihadi groups overseas, said another expert who monitors the group.
“Whether it’s a devastating tsunami, earthquake, wildfire, or the unprecedented situation we are facing now, groups like the Islamic State and al-Qaeda always bend the story into a ‘God’s will’ narrative, or call to carry out attacks amid destabilization,” said SITE Director Rita Katz.”

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has announced the creation of a fund for addressing the global coronavirus pandemic – and he is simultaneously asking nations to contribute the equivalent of at least 10 percent of the annual income of the entire planet to a massive “human-centered, innovative and coordinated stimulus package” that would be administered at the international level.
Although Guterres doesn’t state it explicitly, he seems to be connecting the new fund, which he calls a “dedicated COVID-19 Response and Recovery Fund,” with the massive stimulus package plan, announcing both measures in the same press release.
If countries were to accept the plan, the United Nations or some similar coordinating agency would be given the equivalent of approximately 8.7 trillion USD, an unprecedented amount that would be 2,900 times greater than the UN’s annual budget of 3 billion USD.
The proposed plan would effectively place a global agency, presumably the UN itself, in charge of propping up the economies of the world during the coronavirus crisis, placing it in charge of 10% of global income.

The race card has already been played once since the coronavirus pandemic hit, with the Left excoriating Donald Trump several weeks ago for referring to the pandemic as the “Chinese virus.” Now it looks as though charges of racism are about to be leveled again, judging from an article that came out in the Atlantic yesterday. The author, Ibram X. Kendi, is identified as the director of the Antiracist Research and Policy Center at American University.

Shenzhen has become the first Chinese city to ban the sale and consumption of dog and cat meat.
It comes after the coronavirus outbreak was linked to wildlife meat, prompting Chinese authorities to ban the trade and consumption of wild animals.
Shenzhen went a step further, extending the ban to dogs and cats. The new law will come into force on 1 May.
Thirty million dogs a year are killed across Asia for meat, says Humane Society International (HSI).
However, the practice of eating dog meat in China is not that common – the majority of Chinese people have never done so and say they don’t want to.
“Dogs and cats as pets have established a much closer relationship with humans than all other animals, and banning the consumption of dogs and cats and other pets is a common practice in developed countries and in Hong Kong and Taiwan,” the Shenzhen city government said, according to a Reuters report.
“This ban also responds to the demand and spirit of human civilization.”
Animal advocacy organisation HSI praised the move.
“This really could be a watershed moment in efforts to end this brutal trade that kills an estimated 10 million dogs and 4 million cats in China every year,” said Dr Peter Li, China policy specialist for HSI.
However, at the same time as this ruling, China approved the use of bear bile to treat coronavirus patients.
Bear bile – a digestive fluid drained from living captive bears – has long been used in traditional Chinese medicine.
The active ingredient, ursodeoxycholic acid, is used to dissolve gallstones and treat liver disease. But there is no proof that it is effective against the coronavirus and the process is painful and distressing for the animals
Brian Daly, a spokesman for the Animals Asia Foundation, told AFP: “We shouldn’t be relying on wildlife products like bear bile as the solution to combat a deadly virus that appears to have originated from wildlife.”

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Democrats are drafting legislation that would create a bipartisan commission to study the U.S. government’s response to the coronavirus pandemic, modeled on one that examined the 9/11 attacks.
The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., are working on separate bills establishing a commission. Draft legislation from Thompson’s committee says the commission would provide a “full and complete accounting” of the U.S. efforts.
“Americans will need answers on how our government can work better to prevent a similar crisis from happening again,” Thompson said.

“The Academy of Medical Sciences of Iran penned a letter to the UN, slamming the world body’s inaction on “cruel” US sanctions amid the country’s battle against the deadly coronavirus epidemic.
“Following correspondence about the US government’s illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its direct impact on the health of the Iranian people, unfortunately, so far, the United Nations and other relevant organizations including the World Health Organization, which claim to defend the rights of humanity, have taken no effective measures to lift the cruel sanctions against our dear children, women, men and patients,” the Academy’s President Alireza Marandi said in the letter on Thursday.

Following correspondence about the US government’s illegal sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran and its direct impact on the health of the Iranian people, unfortunately, so far, the United Nations and other relevant organizations including the World Health Organization, which claim to defend the rights of humanity, have taken no effective measures to lift the cruel sanctions against our dear children, women, men and patients.
Instead, despite the urging of scientists, physicians and even some elected US officials to lift sanctions amid a worldwide Covid-19 disease pandemic, this irrational, ruthless American government has further tightened sanctions against the Iranian people.
Nevertheless, the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s health authorities and officials in the face of inhumane US sanctions have been successful in managing the recent pandemic. Even if a small part of these sanctions were imposed on European countries and the United States, those nations would surely collapse under the strain. As you know, we have been one of the worse-hit nations in this pandemic and would not have reached this difficult state had it not been for the repressive US sanctions imposed on all the world in order to punish Iran.
It is certain that history will judge the ineffectiveness and silence of international organizations claiming the protection of international law and human rights against such crimes. These institutions have become toothless, if not complicit, and we will undoubtedly see the unraveling of our world order because of this refusal to take action against crass violations of international and humanitarian law by the US regime.”
