Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. BREITBART – Coronavirus: Facebook Removes Post by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro

    Shortly after Twitter removed a post about the coronavirus pandemic by Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, Facebook followed suit also removing the president’s post from its platform as well.

    TechCrunch reports that Facebook has appeared to stray from its general policy of not fact-checking politicians and removed a post by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro relating to the coronavirus pandemic. On Sunday, Bolsonaro shared a post stating that “hydroxychloroquine is working in all places,” to treat the coronavirus, Facebook removed the post to prevent the spread of “misinformation that could lead to physical harm.”

    The company said in a statement to TechCrunch: “We remove content on Facebook and Instagram that violates our Community Standards, which do not allow misinformation that could lead to physical harm.” Facebook says it specifically prohibits false claims relating to cures, treatments, the availability of essential services and outbreak locations.

    The removal of the post was first reported by BBC News Brazil. In the video which was removed Bolsonaro had been speaking to a street vendor and stated that “They want to work.” Bolsonaro also added that “medicine there, hydroxychloroquine, is working in all places.”

    Breitbart News reporter Allum Bokhari reported this week that Twitter had also removed posts by Bolsonaro, writing:

    The deleted videos consist of videos of Bolsonaro discussing the Chinese virus with Brazilian citizens, emphasizing the need to balance concern about the pandemic with economic reality.

    In one of the deleted videos, Bolsonaro tells a street vendor, “What I have been hearing from people is that they want to work.”

    “What I have said from the beginning is that ‘we are going to be careful, the over-65s stay at home,’” he said.

    “We just can’t stand still, there is fear because if you don’t die of the disease, you starve,” the vendor is seen telling Bolsonaro, who responds: “You’re not going to die!”

    In another video, the president calls for a “return to normality,” questioning quarantine measures imposed by governors and some mayors across the giant South American country as an effective containment measure against the virus.

    “If it continues like this, with the amount of unemployment what we will have later is a very serious problem that will take years to be resolved,” he said of the isolation measures.

    Responding to a request for comment, a Twitter spokeswoman cited the platform’s new rules against misinformation, which Breitbart News reported on earlier this month. According to the spokeswoman, the rules cover content that “could be against public health information provided by official sources and could put people at greater risk of transmitting COVID-19.”

    However, as Breitbart News reported last week, Twitter has not clamped down on misinformation about the virus posted by Chinese officials, even after U.S. lawmakers have brought it to their attention.

    Information provided by residents at the epicenter of the CCP virus in Wuhan, China, indicates that the real death toll there could be over 32,000, which is 12.7 times the official figure.The Hubei provincial health commission announced on March 23 that in the whole of Wuhan, 2,524 people had died of the CCP (Chinese Communist Party) virus, commonly known as novel coronavirus. Wuhan is the capital of Hubei.

    The United Nations (UN) held a consultative meeting today (Friday) focusing on anti-terrorism efforts across the world, ARY News reported.

    During the observatory session, Pakistan asked the global peace making body to declare all organisations working against Islam and spreading hate and propaganda in its name with anti-Muslim agendas as terrorists.

  9. The government of Sudan is expected to no longer hand down a death sentence for those found guilty of apostasy, a crime that is highly frowned upon in the Islamic world. The government did say that the law also must go further and also decriminalise blasphemy, which still carries a severe penalty for anyone convicted.

    Sudan is one of the few countries in the world where people have been executed for leaving the Islamic faith.

  12. MOSCOW — An international media freedom watchdog says the autocratic ex-Soviet nation of Turkmenistan has banned the media from using the word “coronavirus.”

    Reporters Without Borders said Tuesday the word also has been removed from health information brochures distributed in schools, hospitals and workplaces. The gas-rich Central Asian nation that neighbors Iran so far has reported no cases of the new coronavirus. Iran has reported more than 44,000 cases.

    Paris-based Reporters Without Borders said people wearing face masks or talking about the coronavirus are liable to be arrested by plainclothes police. Ranked last in the group’s 2019 World Press Freedom Index, Turkmenistan is one of the world’s most closed countries.

    The United States under President Trump is doing better handling the COVID-19 Chinese coronavirus pandemic than the six most populous Western European nations combined, a TGP analysis shows.

    The US with an estimated population of 330 million was compared to the 336 million combined estimated population of Germany (81 million), France (66 million), the United Kingdom (65 million), Italy (61 million), Spain (46 million) and the Netherlands (17 million).     “Despite a large amount of royalties and humanitarian aid collected by the Houthi group in Sanaa, Yemen, the city is drowning in trash and wastewater, local residents reported. Houthi militias had overrun the former capital in 2014.

    The waste crisis in Sanaa is a health hazard facing a population of over three million as many of the city’s streets, alleyways and neighborhoods are flooded with trash piles. This coincides with fears of a coronavirus outbreak.

    Locals told Asharq Al-Awsat that toxic piles of garbage now cover a number of main streets and residential neighborhoods, and that pungent odors fill the air. They also reported a lack of response on behalf of Houthi authorities, something which is aggravating the situation.

    According to local residents, the reason behind the accumulation of trash remains unknown, with some suggesting that it could have to do with cleaners going on strike over not being paid or other reasons.

    Residents in Sanaa, in light of the spread of epidemics and deadly viruses, demanded that the Houthi group assumes its responsibilities towards the health and life of Yemenis and accelerate the process of clearing the garbage in the city.

    A neighborhood official in Sanaa, speaking under condition of anonymity, told Asharq Al-Awsat that “the Houthi group continues to deliberately ignore this dangerous environmental problem and has not taken any measures to fix it.”

    “The Houthi group continues to exploit the coronavirus pandemic to get its hands on international aid, as it did with other diseases that had struck Yemen,” the official added.

    Reports confirm that, since the beginning of the Houthi coup, the population of Sanaa suffers from a complete absence of basic services. Houthis have privatized public institutions and spend royalties they collect on their war effort.

    Local organizations and volunteers complained about Houthi obstacles that face their work after the Iran-backed group refused to grant them permits needed to implement epidemic prevention projects in Sanaa.”

    “Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s ruling party said on Tuesday it proposed a bill that would temporarily release roughly 45,000 prisoners in response to the risk that the coronavirus could spread in jails.

    A separate reform included in the legislation, which the AK Party (AKP) and its allies sent to parliament, would release another roughly 45,000 inmates permanently.

    There are about 300,000 prisoners in Turkey’s crowded jails. The government has been working on reforms to ease pressure on the system, while human rights groups have said infections could easily grow there.

    The move comes after the number of confirmed virus cases in Turkey rose to 10,827 on Monday, less than three weeks since it registered its first case. The national death toll is 168.

    Inmates who have completed half of their sentences will be eligible for release under the plan, senior AKP deputy Cahit Ozkan told reporters. It would exclude those convicted of terror or drugs related crimes, offences of a sexual nature and murder and violence against women.

    That would mean that dozens of journalists and human rights defenders would be excluded because many of them have been imprisoned on terror-related charges.

    Amnesty International and other human rights groups had called on Turkey to ensure that the proposed legislation releases journalists, activists, opposition politicians and others imprisoned for expressing dissenting opinions under the country’s vague anti-terrorism laws.

    Separately, Turkish defense and electronics firms are teaming up to produce 5,000 ventilators to help treat coronavirus patients, the head of a military drone manufacturer said on Tuesday.

    Baykar Chief Executive Haluk Bayraktar said 100 engineers from his company, defense contractor Aselsan and household electronics maker Arcelik were working together to have the ventilators ready by the end of May.

    They will be accelerating production of a ventilator made by Turkish biomedical company Biosys, of which only 12 are currently being used.

    “Initially, we are racing to deliver 1,000 ventilators by mid-April,” he told Reuters, adding that they would be handed over to Turkey’s health ministry.

    Turkey diagnosed its first coronavirus patient less than three weeks ago, but the number of cases has surged since then to more than 10,000, with 725 people in intensive care.

    Governments and hospitals globally have pleaded with manufacturers to speed up production of ventilators to cope with a surge in patients struggling to breathe.

    Bayraktar said some components were currently being procured from abroad while his company and Aselsan set up a domestic supply network for the ventilator components.

    The military companies will make the parts for the ventilator, which will be mass produced by Arcelik.

    “It is possible to produce this ventilator for $6,500 while an imported equivalent would cost some 20,000 euros,” he said. “This is the first step of mass production, the costs might fall as production numbers increase.”

    Baykar’s military unmanned aerial vehicles have played a crucial role in Turkish cross-border operations against Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northeast Syria and against Syrian regime forces in Idlib province.

    He said some companies have paid for the production of more than 1,000 ventilators to be given to the health ministry as part of a charity campaign initiated by his company.

    Other countries have also sought to step up ventilator production. Britain has ordered 10,000 devices from a consortium of leading aerospace, engineering and Formula One racing companies, while in the United States Ford Motor Co said it will produce 50,000 over the next 100 days.”

Sachs cooperated with the Iranian state-owned TV and co-produced a documentary titled “The New Great Game”. this documentary stated that Iran’s nuclear program is for “defensive” purposes serving as an effective “deterrent” against Israeli aggression and belligerence. Al Jazeera Arabic was also a contributor.

    Sachs also made a documentary, The Fence and profiled Zaharia Zubeidi, the leader of the terrorist group Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades as a hero, a leader of the resistance. Al Aqsa is the military are of Hamas, which describes itself as the Muslim Brotherhood hoods in Palestine in its own charter.

    Justine Trudeau has gone out of his way to support Islamist groups and their ideology in Canada. He sent the Islamic Conference “Reviving the Islamic Spirit” a message of “Shared Beliefs, Shared Values and Shared Vision”.

    Justine also appointed Omar Alghabra as an advisor, the same Muslim man who tried to introduce Shari’ah law into Ontario when he was a MPP.

    Now Justine has appointed his trusted friend, Ralph Goodale to investigate the Iranian plane crash that was downed shortly after takeoff, that killed all on board.

    “Saudi Arabia wants Muslims to wait until there is more clarity about the coronavirus pandemic before planning to attend the annual Hajj pilgrimage, the Minister for Hajj and Umrah said on state TV on Tuesday.

    Dr. Mohammad Benten said the Kingdom is ready to serve pilgrims in any case but that priority is keeping them safe.

    Muslims must wait before making any Hajj plans until there is more clarity on coronavirus, he added.

    Some 2.5 million pilgrims from around the world usually flock to the holiest sites of Islam in Makkah and Madinah for the week-long ritual.

    The largest annual gathering of Muslims is scheduled to begin in late July, but the coronavirus outbreak has raised questions about whether it can or should go ahead given the risk of spreading the disease further in large gatherings.

    Saudi Arabia has already suspended the smaller, year-round umrah pilgrimage until further notice, halted all international passenger flights indefinitely and last week blocked entry and exit to several cities, including Mecca and Medina.

    The kingdom has reported 10 deaths among 1,563 cases of coronavirus, which has infected some 800,000 people globally and killed more than 38,000.

    Cancelling the Hajj would be unprecedented in modern times, but curbing attendance from high-risk areas has happened before, including in recent years during the Ebola outbreak.”

    “Mohammad Mohi, a spokesman for the Hezbollah Brigades in Iraq (Kata’ib Hezbollah), has said that the US withdrawal from some of its military bases in Iraq is not real, and it is rather a “repositioning act after being subjected to strong blows from the Iraqi people’s factions.”

    Mohi stressed that the Iraqi people have the right to confront US presence.

    Mohi said in statements to the German news agency DPA that “the withdrawal of US forces from some military bases in different regions of the country is meant to be a repositioning operation toward finding safer areas after they were subjected to strong military strikes by factions of Iraqi people who reject their presence.”

    He stressed: “We will continue to target them wherever they are because we believe that American moves in Iraq are aggressive and their presence is illegal.”

    “We warn the US forces [against] committing any aggression against the Iraqi people and their factions, carrying out any attempted military coup against the political process, undermining the leaders of the popular mobilisation, or assassinating influential Iraqi national figures,” said Mohi.

    He added: “Our stance on the strikes to which US forces are being subjected to in Iraq is clear. Although we disagree with some factions about the type and timing of strikes, which may be inappropriate, we still believe that it is the Iraqi people’s right to confront US presence.”

    The New York Times revealed two days ago information about American plans to destroy a group of Iranian-backed militias that threatened to carry out more attacks against American forces in Iraq. The newspaper pointed out that the Iraqi Hezbollah Brigades are among these militias.

    It quoted that some senior American officials believe that “there is an opportunity to try to destroy the Iranian-backed militias in Iraq, as the leaders in Iran are bewildered due to the corona pandemic crisis in their country.””

That is why, he explained, it is a surprise to see the Saudi air force dropping supplies of the masks in Sanaa and several other provinces, especially in light of the fact that, according to the World Health Organisation, no cases of coronavirus have been recorded in the country…”

    “India and Pakistan sealed off centers belonging to a Muslim missionary group on Tuesday and began investigating how many coronavirus cases were linked to its activities.

    Tablighi Jamaat is a Deobandi Sunni Muslim missionary movement that preaches worldwide. Every year, tens of thousands attend its congregations in the Pakistani city of Lahore and other parts of South Asia.

    India has so far registered 32 deaths from 1,251 confirmed infections, and Pakistan 20 from 1,914.

    The numbers are small compared with the United States, Italy or China but health officials say both countries have weak public health systems that could be overwhelmed by a surge in cases.

    New Delhi’s city administration has flagged a Muslim quarter where the 100-year-old group has a branch as a coronavirus hotspot after dozens of people tested positive for the virus there and at least seven died.

    Authorities said people kept visiting the center, in a five-storey building in a neighborhood of narrow, winding lanes, from other parts of the country and abroad, and that it had preached sermons to large groups despite government orders on social distancing.

    Hundreds of people were crammed into the building until the weekend, when authorities began taking them out for testing. More buses arrived on Tuesday to take them away to quarantine centers in another part of the city.

    “It looks like social distancing and quarantine protocols were not practised here,” the city administration said in a statement.

    “The administrators violated these conditions and several cases of corona-positive patients have been found … By this gross act of negligence, many lives have been endangered … This is nothing but a criminal act.”

    TRACING MOVEMENTS
    Authorities are trying to trace the movements of people who had gathered at the Tablighi centers in Delhi and Lahore and the people who were exposed to them.

    In Pakistan, the Lahore Tablighi center was sealed off and dozens of other preaching centers across the country were placed in quarantine after 143 Tablighi members tested positive and three died, officials said.

    Media said the cases included Tablighi members from Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Myanmar, Kyrgyzstan and Saudi Arabia.

    Malaysia’s health ministry had told a news conference in Kuala Lumpur that it was investigating the presence of Malaysians at the Delhi center.

    India, with a population of more than 1.3 billion, is under lockdown until mid-April to try to stem the spread of the coronavirus, but tens of thousands of out-of-work migrants are fleeing to the countryside, undermining the restrictions.

    Musharraf Ali, an administrator of the Tablighi center in Delhi, said the group had been seeking help from police and the city authorities to deal with the large number who were unable to leave after the government announced a lockdown.

    “There was no option … but to accommodate the stranded visitors with prescribed medical precautions until such time as the situation becomes conducive for their movement or arrangements are made by the authorities,” Ali said.

    In Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina told government officials that she might extend a 10-day lockdown due to end on April 4 for a few more days.

    “The Greek Coast Guard on March 31 forced 18 asylum seekers into Turkish territorial waters off the southeastern coast, where they were rescued by Turkey.

    A Turkish Coast Guard team rescued the asylum seekers off the Datça district, in the Aegean, in the Mu?la province, said the coast guard command.

    The team rescued 18 asylum seekers from Palestine, Syria, and Iran, including women and children.

    After being given food and blankets, the asylum seekers were taken to the provincial migration offices.

    Turkey has been one of the main routes for asylum seekers wanting to reach Europe, especially since Syria’s civil war started in 2011.

    Turkey hosts some 3.7 million Syrians, more than any other country in the world.”

    “A migrant hosted in a the Ritsona camp north of Athens has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, after giving birth in hospital in the capital. The announcement was given by the Greek minister for migration, who noted that the infant and medical personnel who had helped the woman are now being tested for virus.

    The father of the infant was tested but does not have the virus. The woman is of African origins but no other details about her were released. The case is the first migrant to be found with COVID-19 in Greece. Local media said that a medical team had gone to Ritsona to track down people who have been in contact with the woman and understand where she became infected.

    At the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, the Greek government imposed strict limits on the movements of migrants living in camps in the country, often in very poor conditions. However, few tests have been conducted on the migrants in the camps, especially since the conservative government excluded many of them from public healthcare services through measures taken in 2019.     Twitter has forced Fox News host Laura Ingraham to take down a tweet reporting on news that the malaria drug Hydroxychloroquine has been used to successfully treat sufferers of the Chinese virus in New York City hospitals.

    In a now-deleted tweet, the Fox host reported that “Lenox Hill in New York among many hospitals using Hydroxychloroquine with promising results. One patient was described as “Lazarus” who was seriously ill from COVID-19, already released. #IngrahamAngle”

    Twitter told left-wing reporters that Ingraham had been locked out of her account and forced to delete the tweet before regaining access. Twitter cited its new rules around “misleading information around COVID-19,” even though it appears that Chinese propagandists on the platform are being given a pass on virus-related misinformation.

    Ingraham’s tweet appears to have been based on comments from Dr. William Grace, an oncologist who touted the virus-busting benefits of Hydroxychloroquine on the Fox host’s show yesterday. Fox said it incorrectly identified Dr. Grace as an employee of Lenox Hill, but it did not say that his medical opinion about the drug was inaccurate.

    ABC News has quoted a different doctor from Lenox Hill, Len Horovitz, who had a similar opinion.

    Given chloroquine’s effectiveness in treating SARS, scientists have investigated if it will be an effective treatment against the new coronavirus responsible for COVID-19. So far, the initial trials are encouraging.

    “There is evidence that chloroquine is effective when they looked at SARS in vitro with primate cells,” said Dr. Len Horovitz, a pulmonologist and internist at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. “The theory of the experiment with primate cells was that chloroquine could be for preventing viral infection or as a treatment for viral infection after it had occurred. In vitro in these primate cells, there was evidence that viral particles were significantly reduced when chloroquine was used.”

    ABC News, unlike Ingraham, is still allowed to describe its report on Twitter.
