This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

    Hesse’s Minister President Volker Bouffier ( Christian Democratic Union) has made a statement on the suicide of State Finance Minister Thomas Schäfer (†54), brought his death in connection with the Corona crisis. “We are immensely sad,” said Bouffier. “He is exactly the person we would have needed most in such a difficult time.” And further: “We must assume today that he was very worried. Above all, he was very worried about whether it would be possible to meet the expectations of the people, particularly with regard to financial aid. I must assume that these worries have depressed him. He obviously could not find a way out.He was desperate and he left us.”

    “Sweden’s National Board of Health and Welfare has created guidelines for the priority of care for Chinese coronavirus patients that could see elderly Swedish citizens left to die in favour of illegal migrants.

    Sweden’s elderly, along with Swedes with pre-existing health conditions, can be given lower priority than healthy young illegal migrants, according to the new guidelines.

    Dr Thomas Lindén, of the National Board of Health and Welfare, said that health professionals should prioritise based on medical needs and not on the basis of citizenship, according to Nyheter Idag.

    “The principles of prioritisation say that we should prioritise on the basis of medical needs and that all people have equal value. It means for someone who works in the healthcare industry that it is the people you have ahead of you, then you should not think about legal status, citizenship or so, but it is the medical need that should govern,” he said.

    “Another question is what the regions do with people who may not have residence permits such as ‘paperless’ and others. It is important, partly for them to receive care but also for the protection of the infection to work. Both for those individuals and for society at large, it can be important that they receive care to stop the spread of infection,” Lindén added.

    Prior reports had claimed that the Swedish government had begun detailing plans for a triage system in the event that emergency beds and intensive care units become overwhelmed by coronavirus patients.

    The report came after former infection prevention physician Staffan Sylvan stated that the country’s medical system was completely unprepared in the event of a major viral outbreak.

    “At present, our hospitals already have major problems in receiving and caring for urgently ill patients. Why this disinformation about our readiness?” he said late last month.

    Some Swedish authorities have previously prioritised migrants over vulnerable Swedish groups, including in 2016 when various disability and dementia groups were evicted from a building in order to convert it to homes for asylum seekers.”

They wanted to open an emergency exit door to let their male visitors into the hospital.     “Tensions between Tehran and Washington further deteriorated in early January, when top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani was assassinated in a US drone strike on his car in Baghdad.

    Major General Hossein Salami, Chief Commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), has urged the US to use its military for domestic purposes instead of sending it abroad.

    “When the Americans are in the region, they will both harm themselves and the nations [in the region], and their existence results in nothing but the deterioration of their own power and damage to these nations”, Salami pointed out on Saturday.

    He referred to an IRGC missile attack on a US airbase in January, saying that some US officials announced after the strike that they “wanted to carry out limited operations against the Iranians, which was no more than a political bluff”.

    Salami noted that after Washington “tested the power” of the Islamic Republic, the US “knows very well how Iran will react to any efforts to undermine it”.

    He called on US officials to “really care about the lives of their people in New York and the states involved with coronavirus rather than thinking about Hollywood scenarios and killing people in Iraq”.

    “Instead of deploying their troops around the world to displace people, it is better to keep their army in the United States to solve the problems of its people, like Iran, which has used its armed forces to fight the coronavirus”, Salami said, adding that from the first day of the coronavirus outbreak in Iran, Tehran used “all the capabilities of the IRGC […] to combat the virus”.

    Iran has the highest COVID-19 infection rates in the Middle East and ranks sixth in the world in total infections after the US, China, Italy, Spain, and Germany.

    Salami’s remarks come after he signaled on Thursday Iran’s readiness to help the US grapple with the coronavirus, adding that Tehran doesn’t need Washington’s assistance in this regard.

    The statement followed Salami pledging last week that Iran will continue to respond to the US assassination of the top Iranian general in Iraq earlier this year.

    “The Americans assassinated our great commander. We have responded to that terrorist act and will respond to it”, Salami said in a televised address.

    Salami also commented on the economic situation in the country amid the tough US sanctions against Iran, stressing that Tehran’s enemies “have not been able to subjugate Iran through economic pressure”….”

    According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the firearm industry should fall under the ‘essential businesses’ category during the COVID-19 outbreak. The DHS has advised all states to include gun and ammunition stores as “part of its lists as communities are weighing options for coronavirus safety measures.”

    WUHAN, China (Reuters) – A growing number of imported coronavirus cases in China risked fanning a second wave of infections when domestic transmissions had “basically been stopped”, a senior health official said on Sunday, while eased travel curbs may also add to domestic risks.

    China, where the disease first emerged in the central city of Wuhan, had an accumulated total of 693 cases entering from overseas, which meant “the possibility of a new round of infections remains relatively big”, Mi Feng, spokesman for the National Health Commission (NHC), said.

  33. Canada army not needed right now to help combat coronavirus spread: Trudeau

    OTTAWA (Reuters) – Canada is not planning for the moment to use troops to help combat a spreading coronavirus outbreak, although the option remains on the table, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Sunday.

    All 10 provinces have declared states of emergency and ordered people to stay home. The number of cases rose to 5,866 from 5,655 on Saturday while the death toll is 63, up from 61, medical officials said.

    The province of Quebec – where 8.5 million people are spread across a landmass the size of western Europe – on Saturday said it was restricting access to eight remote regions with often patchy access to healthcare.

    Quebec is also stationing police on the border with the United States to ensure returning travelers know they must go into isolation.

    Trudeau was non-committal when asked about deploying troops to help Quebec or other provinces.

    “This situation is evolving constantly and we are prepared for all kinds of different situations. Of course Canadians know very well that members of the armed forces are always ready to help when they are needed,” he said.

  34. Germany: Police storm Stuttgart shisha bar as party violates corona-ban

    Police squads were deployed outside a shisha bar in Stuttgart on Saturday night, after neighbours reported that a group of Muslims had been partying inside, a violation of the government’s policies enacted to contain the spreading of the coronavirus.

    Footage shows police vehicles and officers along with police dogs arriving at the shisha bar and surrounding it. Upon the arrival of the first policemen, the group of 22 Muslims reportedly barricaded themselves in the cellar.

    Germany enacted restrictions on public life including a ban on gatherings of more than two people outside, and a ban on parties of all kind. The country has over 60,000 confirmed cases of the virus which has killed nearly 500 people as of Sunday.

  35. Britons warned some coronavirus lockdown measures could last months

    LONDON (Reuters) – Some lockdown measures to combat coronavirus in Britain could last months and only be gradually lifted, a senior medical official said on Sunday as Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned the situation will get worse before it gets better.

    Britain has reported 19,522 confirmed cases of the disease and 1,228 deaths, after an increase of 209 fatalities as of 5 p.m. local time on Saturday compared with the previous day, the health ministry said.

    “The important thing is this is a moving target,” Deputy Chief Medical Officer Jenny Harries said.

    “If we do well it moves forward and comes down and we manage all our care through our health and care systems sensibly in a controlled way and that is what we are aiming for,” she told a news conference.

    “This is not to say we would be in complete lockdown for six months but it means that as a nation we have to be really, really responsible and keep doing what we are all doing until we are sure that we can gradually start lifting various interventions.”

    DUBAI (Reuters) – Iran’s coronavirus death toll has risen to 2,640, a health ministry official said on Sunday, as the Middle East’s worst-hit country grapples with the fast-spreading outbreak.

    “In the past 24 hours we had 123 deaths and 2,901 people have been infected, bringing the total number of infected people to 38,309,” Alireza Vahabzadeh, an adviser to the health minister, said in a tweet. “12,391 people infected from the virus have recovered.”

    Health ministry spokesman Kianush Jahanpur told state TV that 3,467 of those infected were in “critical condition”.

    “I am happy to announce that also 12,391 people who had been infected across the country have recovered,” Jahanpur said. “The average age of those who have died of the disease is 69.”

    President Hassan Rouhani urged Iranians to adapt to their new way of life, which was likely to continue for some time.

    California Chief Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye, who was given unprecedented powers by Gov. Gavin Newsom, voted with other judicial leaders Saturday to recommend that courts use remote hearings to get people out of overcrowded jails.

    During an emergency meeting of the Judicial Council, Cantil-Sakauye said the lack of court hearings and the closure of state prisons to new inmates has left California’s jails overcrowded in potentially unsafe conditions.

    She said she has received “no assurance” that jails in California are practicing social distancing, that inmates can be transported to courthouses with social distancing or that courtrooms can practice it.

    “This is about making sure the courts are not vectors,” she said.

    Apocalypse now? Could the coronavirus be far more deadly than has been predicted?

    The Left has been predicting that global warming would be the planet’s instrument of death and even set a time frame for its demise: 12 years. But could the real angel of death be the coronavirus?

    It sounds like the sort of doomsday prediction you might expect from a lunatic carrying a sign reading “Repent, the end is near.” But two news stories suggest the possibility that, if nothing else, the effects of the virus could be far graver than anyone has predicted.

    The first story is from the Daily Mail. It reports that scientific advisers in Britain have warned Prime Minister Boris Johnson that China may be downplaying the severity of the virus “by a factor of 15 to 40 times.”

    The second story, from Time magazine and other sources, notes that funeral homes are buying burial urns in unheard-of quantities. This calls into questions figures the Chinese government has released about the death toll in that nation. Writes Time:

    “London’s Metropolitan Police Force is appealing to the public to report “hate crime related to the Covid-19 pandemic”.

    “A hate crime is when someone commits a crime against you because of your disability, gender, identity, race, or sexual orientation, religion, or any other actual or perceived difference,” intoned an officer identified as “Constable Paul” in the video message the Met shared to social media.

    “It doesn’t just mean physical violence,” he assured potential hate reporters. “Someone using offensive language towards you, or harassing you because of who you are, or who they think you are, is also a crime,” he suggested.

    Keen to remind viewers that London’s police officers are not only concerned with offensive behaviour face to face, Constable Paul went on to note “someone posting abusive ot offensive messages about you online” as another example of a hate crime.

    He appeared to be at pains to maximise his police force’s “hate crime” workload, telling viewers: “You might want to shrug it off if it happens to you, but if you tell us then we can investigate and stop it from getting worse, for you or someone else. Even if you’re not sure if it’s a crime or not, you should report it so we can investigate.”

    The police force’s efforts to solicit hate crime reports at this time may seem curious to some, given predictions that the country’s lockdown measures could in time lead to unrest among some elements of the populace, and that the coronavirus could slash the force’s manpower by as much as a quarter due to sickness and self-isolation requirements.

    Police in Bristol got a small taste of these potential issues within hours of Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s initial announcement of lockdown measures, with “youths” who were told to disperse by officers reacting by throwing missiles at them and torching two food delivery vans.”

    That didn’t go over so well with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

    The governor said Saturday in an interview with CNN that he didn’t think a quarantine was legal and that it would be a “federal declaration of war.”

    “It would be chaos and mayhem,” Cuomo told CNN’s Ana Cabrera. “It’s totally opposite everything he’s been saying. I don’t think it is plausible. I don’t think it is legal.”

  45. How can you tell whether or not the liberal media will pick up an incident of gun violence and turn it into a national story? It’s simple: If the shooting is successful, they will give it wall-to-wall coverage for a week. If it is stopped by an armed citizen, however, the liberal media will almost always pretend it never happened or glance over the story with only brief mention or coverage.

    This oversight is perhaps a bit more understandable at the moment, given the national coronavirus crisis consuming the country and dominating media coverage. But it’s still absolutely worth highlighting the heroic story of a Florida man who on Friday shot and stopped an armed shooter who opened fire on shoppers at a shopping center.

    “A man with a concealed carry permit reportedly told arriving officers that he shot the woman after she started shooting at customers outside the shopping center,” the Tulsa World reports. “Video reportedly showed the woman was involved in an earlier altercation in the parking lot. The woman left the shopping center and returned about three minutes later, when she pulled a gun and opened fire, according to the news release.”

  48. RIYADH, Saudi Arabia — Two projectiles were intercepted over Saudi Arabia Saturday, state media reported.

    Saudi-owned Al Arabiya reported the attacks before midnight. Multiple accounts on social media shared video of what appeared to be projectiles in the Saudi Arabian skies.

    Reuters reported that the cities of Riyadh and Jazan were the locations of the unsuccessful attacks. The southern city of Jazan is near the border with Yemen
