UN Body Files Intervention Application Against Citizenship Law in India’s Supreme Court (sputniknews, Mar 3, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/india/202003031078459325-un-body-files-intervention-application-against-citizenship-law-in-indias-supreme-court/
“India has been attracting criticism from various countries over its controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) which has widely been termed “discriminatory towards Muslims” and has triggered a series of protests and riots that have led to the deaths of over 40 people.
India’s External Affairs Ministry (MEA) said on Wednesday that the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights had filed an intervention application in the Supreme Court of India with regard to the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019.
This means that the global human rights body wants to be made a party in the existing pleas filed against the CAA in the SC.
Responding to the intervention application, MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that it was an internal matter for India.
“The Citizenship Amendment Act is an internal matter of India and concerns the sovereign right of the Indian Parliament to make laws. We strongly believe that no foreign party has any locus standi on issues pertaining to India’s sovereignty,” Raveesh Kumar said.
Over the questions being raised by the “unconstitutional nature of the CAA”, as alleged by the opposition parties and civil right groups as it grants citizenship on the basis of region, the Ministry maintained that the CAA is constitutionally valid and complies with all requirements of the country’s constitutional values.
“It is reflective of our long standing national commitment in respect of human rights issues arising from the tragedy of the Partition of India,” Kumar said.
Maintaining that India is a democratic country and is governed by the rule of law, the Ministry reaffirmed its faith in the independent judiciary system of the country.
“We are confident that our sound and legally sustainable position would be vindicated by the Hon’ble Supreme Court,” the Ministry emphasised.
CAA is a law that paves the way for illegal immigrants from six religious minorities, Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians, who had fled from neighbouring Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan before 2015 to obtain Indian citizenship. However, since the legislation does not extend to Muslim immigrants, it has triggered a strong backlash among members of the community, leading to month-long protests and deadly clashes.”
Head of Iran’s Emergency Medical Services Diagnosed With Coronavirus – Reports (sputniknews, Mar 3, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202003031078462337-head-of-irans-emergency-medical-services-diagnosed-with-coronavirus—reports/
“Earlier in the day, the Iranian Health Ministry reported 835 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours with 77 deaths and 2,336 infected.
Iranian ILNA outlet reported on Tuesday that Dr Pirhossein Kollwand, the head of the country’s emergency services, has been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus.
Kolivand’s “health is good and there is no need for concern”, the office said in a statement, according to ILNA.
At the same time, several Iranian outlets reported that Adviser to Iran’s Judiciary Head Ahmad Tuiserkani has allegedly died from coronavirus.
The report comes hours after the country’s health ministry released updated information on coronavirus cases in the country, saying that 835 new cases of coronavirus had been registered in the last 24 hours with 77 deaths and 2,336 infected.
Iran is one of the hardest-hit countries outside China – the birthplace of the virus.
Since being registered in December, the novel coronavirus, dubbed the COVID-19, has spread to more than 50 countries, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a global health emergency.
So far, the virus infected more than 90,000 people in mainland China, while over 3,000 people died and nearly 40,000 have recovered. According to the latest WHO data, the number of those infected outside China has exceeded 7,000, while over 100 people have died.”

Iran is among the countries that are most affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
The novel coronavirus was first detected in China in late December and has since spread to more than 50 countries, prompting the World Health Organization (WHO) to declare a global health emergency. So far, the virus infected nearly 80,000 people in mainland China, while over 2,800 people died and nearly 40,000 have recovered. According to the latest WHO data, the number of those infected outside China has exceeded 7,000, while over 100 people have died.”
Pulwama Suicide Bombing: Indian Probe Agency Arrests Duo Who Allegedly Sheltered JeM Commanders (sputniknews, Mar 3, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/india/202003031078461107-pulwama-suicide-bombing-indian-probe-agency-arrests-duo-who-allegedly-sheltered-jem-commanders/
“A convoy of Indian troops was attacked by Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber on 14 February last year in the Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. The incident led to the deaths of 40 Indian security personnel.
India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Wednesday arrested father-daughter duo – Tariq Ahmad Shah and Insha Tariq – who have been accused of providing shelter to Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) commanders and suicide bombers who carried out the Pulwama terror attack on the country’s troops on 14 February 2019.
They were arrested in the Lethpora region of Kashmir.
The probe agency told media that both of them “harboured” suicide bomber Adil Ahmad Dar and JeM commanders before the attack on 14 February last year.
Last month, the NIA arrested Shakir Bashir Magrey, an aide of JeM suicide bomber Dar. According to the agency, Magrey had helped track the movement of the convoy of Indian troops as well as assembling the bomb.
Lately, the investigation agency has been carrying out raids in the South Kashmir region in connection with the attacks to weed out JeM terrorists who have supposedly entered the region. According to media, these raids included the residence of JeM commander Zahid Sheikh in Pulwama district.
The responsibility for the Pulwama attack was claimed by banned terror group JeM. India responded to the attack on 26 February by carrying out airstrikes in Pakistan’s Balakot region and claimed that several JeM terrorists were killed in the attack.”
Outrage as Muslim Tells Hijab Opponent to ‘Move Away’ From Sweden in Televised Debate (sputniknews, Mar 3, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/europe/202003031078457784-outrage-as-muslim-tells-hijab-opponent-to-move-away-from-sweden-in-televised-debate/
“In late 2019, Skurup Municipality in Sweden’s southernmost province of Skåne adopted a ban on religious headwear, triggering a nationwide discussion on the role of Islam in Swedish society.
Tensions have heated up in the recent episode of Swedish national broadcaster SVT’s programme The Meeting, where the local ban on religious headdress in the Skurup Municipality was discussed.
The ban, which was met with resistance from local Muslims and their sympathisers, applies to pupils and staff in the municipality’s preschools and primary schools.
In the debate, local centre-right Moderate Party politician Loubna Stensåker Göransson, who supports the ban, was pitted against local teacher Naouel Aissaoui, who has chosen to defy the ban. Despite both women being Muslims and immigrants, they turned out to have completely opposite positions regarding the hijab.
“I feel confident and strong with my faith that says that God is greater than Skurup Municipality and its decision,” Aissaoui proclaimed, stressing that the veil is associated with “purity”.
Loubna Stensåker Göransson, who chairs the local school and education committee in Skurup, argued that religion was “not in the clothes” and associated the hijab with oppression of women, religious indoctrination and sexualisation of little girls. When she confessed to being annoyed by the sight of small children in the veil, a verbal skirmish erupted.
“Well, move away then if it annoys you. Move away from Skurup or from Sweden. That is my country, too,” Aissaoui replied, accusing her opponent of “pure racism”.
Stensåker Göransson countered by suggesting that the new arrivals should adapt to the prevailing culture.
“You cannot come to a country that is secular and equal and live with medieval values,” she said.
The debate didn’t go unnoticed in Swedish social media, sparking many critical voices.
“Now the Muslims are starting to urge us Swedes to leave our country,” one mused, adding that there “must be a stop to refugees’ racist attacks on us Swedes”.
?“What a terrible attitude. The lady in the veil showed zero empathy, zero understanding and went into attack mode instead”, another one said.
?“This may be the most disgusting clip I’ve seen this year. In principle, an immigrant says to all Swedes: ‘You are racists. If you dislike the veil on children, you can move away from here’. This is NOT your country. Adapt yourself or GO HOME, you and your medieval religion. Damn what the hell,” Yemeni-Swedish journalist Luai Ahmed wrote.
?The number of Muslims in Sweden has soared in a matter of several decades, exceeding 800,000 and amounting to 8.1 percent of today’s population, according to the Pew Research Centre. In recent years, a broad debate on the place and the role of Islam in Swedish society has been going on.”
What I find interesting about this report is something that every other VTB reader also notes. That is the disproportionate upheaval of an otherwise harmonious society when a Muslim population is introduced.
The report states that Sweden is now 8.1% Muslim. On the most mundane level Swedes are now obliged to debate the forced wearing by little girls of a political garb under the auspices of a religious tenet. To ratchet the conversation up Swedes now need to consider the safety of their loved ones from rape, beatings, public and religious humiliation. To go one step further Swedes now have to contend with car burning, explosions and hand grenade attacks!
I live in the NYC/Tri-State area and, just off the top of my head, our population is roughly 13 million. The hand grenade attacks alone would cause a huge outcry from the local population and a demand that every law enforcement agency with purview put their shoulder to the wheel to stop it, arrest the perpetrators and deport them from the country. This would make National as well as International news.
And yet, the Swedes muddle on caught up in an unrecognizable culture that demands amendments to a perfectly reasonable social construct.
There is something completely foul about even having these debates with an invading population.

Government’s coronavirus battle plan: Army on standby and police told to stop investigating lower-level crime (telegraph, Mar 3, 2020)
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2020/03/03/governments-coronavirus-battle-plan-army-standby-police-told/
“The Army is on standby and Police would cease investigating all but the most serious crimes when coronavirus peaks, the Government’s “battle plan” for fighting the disease has revealed.
The Government’s 28-page coronavirus action plan also warns that workplaces could have a fifth of their staff off sick at any one time, meaning that essential public services such as the NHS and police would have to focus on core services only.
The Covid-19 battle plan warns:
Coronavirus compared to Spanish Flu
Outbreaks could come in multiple waves
Police will concentrate only on serious crime
Tax mitigation for businesses
Expected increase in deaths
Medical supplies will be stockpiled
School closures and working from home urged
Non-urgent NHS care to be delayed
The Army on standby
Pressure on society will become ‘significant and clearly noticeable’
Police forces would be unable to investigate anything but the most serious crimes if large numbers of officers were off sick, as forces would have to concentrate on “critical functions” such as “responding to serious crimes and maintaining public order”, the plan says….”
Iran orders troops to fight coronavirus outbreak as 77 dead (abcnews, Mar 3, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/net-group-wikipedia-disrupted-iran-amid-coronavirus-69352464
“Iran’s supreme leader put the Islamic Republic’s armed forces on alert Tuesday to assist health officials in combating the outbreak of the new coronavirus — the deadliest outside of China — that authorities say has killed 77 people.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s decision was announced after state media broadcast images of the 80-year-old leader planting a tree wearing disposable gloves ahead of Iran’s upcoming arbor day, showing how concern about the virus now reaches up to the top of the country’s Shiite theocracy. Iranian media reported that 23 members of parliament now had the virus, as did the head of the country’s emergency services.
“Whatever helps public health and prevents the spread of the disease is good and what helps to spread it is sin,” Khamenei said, who has not worn gloves at past arbor day plantings.
After downplaying the coronavirus as recently as last week, Iranian authorities said Tuesday they had plans to potentially mobilize 300,000 soldiers and volunteers to confront the virus. It wasn’t clear if Khamenei’s order would set them in motion helping sanitize streets, direct traffic and track possible contacts those ill with the virus had with others, as initially suggested.
There are now over 2,530 cases of the new coronavirus across the Mideast. Of those outside Iran in the region, most link back to the Islamic Republic.
Yet experts worry Iran’s percentage of deaths to infections, now around 3.3%, is much higher than other countries, suggesting the number of infections in Iran may be far greater than current figures show.
Iran stands alone in how the virus has affected its government, even compared to hard-hit China, the epicenter of the outbreak.
The death of Expediency Council member Mohammad Mirmohammadi on Monday makes him the highest-ranking official within Iran’s leadership to be killed by the virus. State media referred to him as a confidant of Khamenei.
The virus earlier killed Hadi Khosroshahi, Iran’s former ambassador to the Vatican, as well as a recently elected member of parliament.
Those sick include Vice President Masoumeh Ebtekar, better known as “Sister Mary,” the English-speaking spokeswoman for the students who seized the U.S. Embassy in Tehran in 1979 and sparked the 444-day hostage crisis, state media reported. Also sick is Iraj Harirchi, the head of an Iranian government task force on the coronavirus who tried to downplay the virus before falling ill.
On Tuesday, lawmaker Abdolreza Mesri told Iranian state television’s Young Journalists Club program that 23 members of parliament had the coronavirus. He urged all lawmakers to avoid the public.
“These people have a close relationship with the people and they carry different viruses from different parts of the country, which may create a new virus, so we recommend the lawmakers to cut off their relationship with the public for now,” Mesri said.
The semiofficial ILNA and Tasnim news agencies in Iran also reported that Pirhossein Koulivand, the head of the country’s emergency services, had come down with the new illness. They offered no other immediate details.
An activist group also said Tuesday that Wikipedia’s Farsi-language website appeared to be disrupted in Iran after a close confidant to the supreme leader died of the new coronavirus.
The advocacy group NetBlocks linked Mirmohammadi’s death to the disruption, though Iranian officials and its state media did not immediately acknowledge it. Authorities face increasing criticism from the Iranian public over the outbreak amid concerns the number of cases from the virus may be higher than currently reported.
NetBlocks described the disruption to accessing Farsi Wikipedia as being nationwide, saying its technical testing suggests the online encyclopedia is being blocked by the same mechanism used to block Twitter and Facebook. Those social media websites have been banned since Iran’s disputed 2009 presidential election and Green Movement protests.
Some Iranians said they couldn’t access Wikipedia’s Farsi website since Monday night. Others said they could, including through the site’s mobile-friendly pages.
“The new restrictions come as Iran faces a growing crisis following the loss of senior state figures to coronavirus and a spate of criticism and misinformation have spread through social media,” NetBlocks said in its analysis.
The Wikimedia Foundation, which oversees the volunteer-edited encyclopedia, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. NetBlocks previously reported internet disruptions affecting Iran in recent days and users across the Islamic Republic have reported problems.
The disruption raises fears of Iran potentially shutting off the internet entirely again, as it did for a week during economic protests in November. Iran separately has created its own so-called “halal” net of government-approved websites.
Meanwhile Tuesday, the Middle East’s largest airline, Emirates, said it had to reduce or ground flights due to the new virus. Because of the slowdown, the government-owned carrier has asked its employees to take paid and even unpaid leave for up to a month at a time. Emirates’ operates out of Dubai, the world’s busiest for international travel.
“We have been tested before and Emirates will come out stronger,” Chief Operating Officer Adel Al-Redha said.
The world’s largest airline trade association, IATA, says Mideast carriers have already lost around $100 million in revenue due to a drop in ticket sales because of disruptions caused by the virus.”
Attackers kill police near Indonesia’s giant Freeport mine (abcnews, Mar 3, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/attackers-kill-police-indonesias-giant-freeport-mine-69357034
“Attacks by gunmen on security forces near the world’s largest gold mine in Indonesia’s restive Papua province have killed one police officer and wounded three others, police said Tuesday.
Attackers believed to be members of the West Papua Liberation Army, the military wing of the Free Papua Organization, ambushed a police patrol from a hill on Saturday, killing one officer and injuring two others, Papua police chief Paulus Waterpau said.
In a second attack, gunmen shot at a police car on Tuesday, injuring another officer, he said.
The attacks occurred in the mining town of Tembagapura in Papua, where rebels have been fighting a low-level insurgency for independence.
Riza Pratama, a spokesman for PT Freeport Indonesia, the company that runs the Grasberg copper and gold mine, said gunshots were heard near its work area, prompting the company to turn on sirens to warn employees and their families who live on the site.
He said the company has urged workers to be vigilant, but the attacks would not affect its operations.
The U.S. company Freeport-McMoRan owned 90% of the Grasberg mine when it started operating in Indonesia’s easternmost Papua region in 1973. PT Inalum, an Indonesian state-owned mining company, took over a 51.2% stake of the mine from the U.S. company in 2018.
The mine has been hit by arson, roadside attacks and blockades.”
UN watchdog: Iran has 3 possible undeclared nuclear sites (abcnews, Mar 3, 2020)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/watchdog-iran-undeclared-nuclear-sites-69357143
“The UN’s nuclear watchdog says Iran has more than tripled its supply of enriched uranium in the last three months and now has more than a ton stockpiled, in violation of the landmark 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said in a confidential report distributed to member countries Tuesday that as of Feb. 19, Iran’s total enriched uranium stockpile amounted to 1,020.9 kilograms, compared to 372.3 kilograms noted in its last report on Nov. 3, 2019.
The 2015 deal allows Iran only to keep a stockpile of 202.8 kilograms.
————
THIS IS A BREAKING NEWS UPDATE. AP’s earlier story follows below.
The U.N. nuclear watchdog says it has identified three locations in Iran where the country possibly stored undeclared nuclear material or undertook nuclear-related activities without declaring it to international observers.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said Tuesday in a confidential report to member nations seen by The Associated Press that it has sent questions to Iran in three separate letters but has received no reply.
“The agency identified a number of questions related to possible undeclared nuclear material and nuclear-related activities at three locations in Iran that had not been declared by Iran,” the agency said in a report.
The IAEA had previously said that uranium particles of man-made origin had been discovered at one location outside Tehran that had not been declared, which appeared to confirm allegations made by the U.S. and Israel about a secret nuclear warehouse.
The agency said Tehran responded in a letter on Jan. 28 that “Iran will not recognize any allegation on past activities and does not consider itself obliged to respond to such allegations.”
The IAEA responded that its requests for clarification were in line with Iran’s broader commitment to allow inspections of its nuclear facilities and not tied in to the landmark nuclear deal with world powers that Iran made in 2015.
Iran has been slowly violating provisions of that deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, to put pressure on signatories to provide relief from new American sanctions that were instituted after the U.S. pulled out of the pact unilaterally in 2018.”

Google Translate: “Saint-Trivier-de-Courtes (Ain): a fire destroys the church tower” by Dolores Mazzola – Published on 02/03/2020 at 10:46
Updated on 02/03/2020 at 18:50
The church of Saint-Trivier-de-Courtes, in the department of Ain, was ravaged by fire on Sunday evening, March 1. The commune of Haute-Bresse is located on the border with Saône-et-Loire. Around 8:30 p.m., local residents alerted the firefighters. The fire soldiers could not avoid the disaster: shortly before 10 p.m., the church bell tower collapsed.
More than 50 firefighters were mobilized to put out the flames. Aid which benefited from the support of air resources from Ambérieu-en-Bugey and Bourg-en-Bresse. The fire was finally brought under control in the middle of the night. We do not deplore any victim.
According to the first firefighter to arrive, the fire could have been caused by lightning. Lightning which fell on the bell tower around 5 p.m. The fire then brooded for a few hours, according to the fireman. The fire then started very quickly. The firefighter describes a fire “very impressive.”

In Argentina’s north, indigenous children sicken and die from malnutrition
TARTAGAL, Argentina (Reuters) – In Argentina, once one of the world’s richest countries and long a major supplier of beef, children are dying of hunger.
In Argentina’s far northern province of Salta, in a small indigenous community plagued by extreme poverty, eight children died in January alone from malnutrition and a lack of access to clean drinking water, health authorities say.

The issue affects other places, too, and has prompted the national government to announce a plan to tackle hunger. The governor of Salta has declared a public health emergency, vowing to work with the national government to provide clean water in the province.
In the province last week, children from the Wichi community, with a population of just 1,200, played barefoot in the mud, outside homes constructed by hand from wood and cloth.

Sanders campaign embraces radical group that wants to ‘abolish prisons,’ promoted Palestinian terrorists
Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign has embraced a far-left group that seeks to abolish prisons and has promoted a group the U.S. State Department designated as a Palestinian terrorist organization, a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation found.
Sanders’s 2020 presidential campaign website touts an endorsement from the radical group, Dream Defenders, and the group’s co-director, Phillip Agnew, is a top Sanders surrogate.
The group’s political arm, Dream Defenders PAC, has been holding twice-weekly phone banking events in support of Sanders.

By LU Staff March 3, 2020
His overseers at MSNBC had no problem when he famously declared that Barack Obama gave him tingles up his leg. But the voluble host of “Hardball” for twenty years, Chris Matthews, touched a nerve last week when he dared to suggest that maybe the Democrats would be better off with four more years of Donald Trump than with Bernie Sanders. (RELATED: As Left enters desperation mode, MSNBC’s Chris Matthews floats Adam Schiff for president)
Almost instantly, a furor went up liberals everywhere calling for Matthews’s head. Not that the 74-year-old host helped himself that much by comparing Sanders’s victory in Nevada to France falling to the Nazis in 1940:
When Matthews announced his “retirement” at the beginning of the show, the powers that be at the network decided it should be about something other than the Sanders kerfuffle. They had him pretend that he was too old and feeble to host the show. From his farewell address:

At The Federalist, Margot Cleveland has done her usual stellar job of harvesting analytical nuggets from the densely packed record we have growing on Spygate. The latest pretext is the tactically-timed disclosure by the New York Times of the identity of FBI Case Agent 1, in the DOJ IG report on the handling of Operation Crossfire Hurricane.
The identity is that of Special Agent Stephen Somma, who at the time Crossfire Hurricane was launched, on 31 July 2016, was working at the FBI’s New York Field Office. Somma was moved to Washington to take part in Crossfire Hurricane, presumably because he had a unique distinction: he had been Stefan Halper’s FBI handler since 2011.
I put it in those terms because – up front – that’s what makes all the difference in how we see Crossfire Hurricane.
We can analyze it as if it was an investigation initiated in reaction to the “intelligence” about George Papadopoulos passed to the U.S. by Australian official Alexander Downer. If we do that, we end up with a lot of questions that still need some kind of focusing filter.

Greece accuses Turkey of using migrants as ‘pawns’ to pressure EU
Greece: UNHCR evacuates refugees stranded on the seaside in northern Lesbos
The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) evacuated nearly 120 migrants and refugees, who had arrived at the Greek island of Lesbos from Turkey on boats in the past few days.
Footage filmed on Tuesday shows a group of asylum seekers, mostly from Afghanistan, getting into UNHCR vans.
The agency’s official working there did not provide any details on where exactly the refugees would be taken to after the registration.
The UNHCR helped the new-comers to set up temporary tents right on the seaside, as roads to Moria refugee camp remained blocked by local residents, opposing the new influx of migrants from the Turkish side.
Greece: Police detain Muslims near border with Turkey
Police officers detained three Muslims on a highway near the town of Orestiada town near the border with Turkey on Tuesday.
Footage shows two Muslims sitting on the roadside and the third one walking through the field.

Greece migrants: It’s an invasion, Turkey has become a human smuggler ! Prime Minister Mitsotakis
Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Tuesday a migrant crisis on its borders with Turkey was an “asymmetrical threat” to the borders of the European Union, noting that Greece and the European Union will not be blackmailed.
“This is no longer a refugee problem. This is a blatant attempt by Turkey to use desperate people to promote its geopolitical agendaand to divert attention from the horrible situation in Syria,” he told journalists at a joint press conference with European Council President Charles Michel, European Commisson head Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament head David Sassoli, with whom he toured the Greek-Turkish border earlier in the day.
Mitsotakis said he people who tried to enter Greece in the past few days did not come from the war-torn Syrian province of Idlib, but had been living safely in Turkey for a long period of time.
“Europe will not be blackmailed by Turkey over the refugee issue. We stand ready to support Turkey in dealing with its refugee problem and find a solution to the Syria conundrum but not under these circumstances. My duty is to protect the sovereignty of my country,” he said.

MARCH 03 2020 – LESBOS – Muslims gather at Lesvos port amid evacuation rumors
More than 2,000 Muslims, holding their belongings, gathered at the main port of the island of Lesvos on Tuesday afternoon, following a rumor that a passenger ferry would transport them to the mainland.
The group walked the 10 kilometers from the overcrowded camp of Moria to the town of Mytilene, filling up the quay and surrounding streets, state-run news agency ANA-MPA reported.
Police forces were called in to push them back towards the camp, however many of the protesters returned to the port believing the ferry will arrive in the coming hours.
It was not clear how the rumor started and how it spread among the Muslims residing in Moria.
At the same time, ANA-MPA reported that numerous young Greeks gathered at the port to “defend themselves” after a separate rumor circulated alleging that asylum seekers armed with wooden bars would descend on Mytilene.
A child died and 47 migrants were rescued on Monday after their boat capsized off Lesvos.
At least 1,000 migrants have reached Greece’s eastern Aegean islands since Sunday morning.
Scuffles as more Muslims reach Greek Lesbos
Scuffles broke out on the Greek island of Lesbos between migrants and police on Tueday, as Muslimss went to the port saying they had received a text message urging them to go and board ships for the mainland that had been laid on for them.
Meanwhile, separate groups of migrants who arrived on other parts of the island over the last few days have not been allowed to go to Moria, the island’s main camp, and were housed instead temporarily at the port of Mytilini.
Greece: Riot police clear Muslims away from port area back to Moria camp
Greek police had to push dozens of Muslims back to Moria camp on Lesbos on Tuesday, as crowds gathered around Mytilene amid rumours of a ferry that would take them to the mainland.
Footage shows Greek police officers and riot police chasing migrants in parks and nearby streets in an effort to move them from the port area.
Previously, hundreds of Muslims left Moria camp for Mytilene amid rumours that a ferry docked in its port will take some off Lesbos to mainland Greece or will be used as temporary camp to stay overnight for families with kids.
Dozens of Muslims, most of whom had arrived over the weekend, have spent the whole day in buses parked at the port while other refugees tried to contact them from the other side of a fence.

Audience Member Calls Out Bloomberg For Pushing Gun Control While Using Armed Guards: ‘Does Your Life Matter More Than Mine?’
An audience member called out former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg for “pushing for more gun control” when he has “an armed security detail.”
“How do you justify pushing for more gun control when you have an armed security detail that’s likely equipped with the same firearms and magazines that you seek to ban the common citizen from owning?” the man asked at a Monday evening Fox News town hall in Manassas, Virginia. “Does your life matter more than mine or my family’s or these peoples’?”

MEMRI Canadian Imam Imam Hussein Amer: Coronavirus Is Allah’s Punishment for How They Treat Uyghur Muslims
Canadian Imam Hussein Amer said in a Friday, January 31, 2020 sermon that the coronavirus spread because of a bat soup that was eaten in China, and he criticized the Chinese for eating “everything in the world that moves.”
He claimed that the Chinese even eat aborted human fetuses and that families abort and sell the remains of female fetuses because they prefer having male children.
Imam Amer also said that the coronavirus is Allah’s revenge against the Chinese for how they treat the Uyghur Muslims, and he expressed hope that the effects of the coronavirus will cause China to wake up and see the human side of its treatment of the Uyghurs.
Imam Amer belongs to the Muslims Association of Canada, which describes itself as an organization that has its roots in the Muslim Brotherhood and in the beliefs of the Brotherhood’s founder, Hassan Al-Banna.
Imam Amer posted the sermon on his personal YouTube account.
BBC Delhi riots: ‘My brother died after police beating’ –
Naeem says his brother Faizan died after he was beaten by police during religious rioting in Delhi last week. Video of the incident has gone viral.
More than 40 people died in three days of violence, which largely targeted Muslims – although both Hindus and Muslims were among the dead.
More than 200 others were injured in the violence, which first broke out between supporters and opponents of a controversial citizenship law that critics say discriminates against Muslims.
Delhi police have not responded to a BBC request for comment on Faizan’s death. They have faced criticism for failing to stop the rioters and, according to some reports, standing by as Muslim homes and mosques were attacked.
World Health Organization Warns Against Hurtful Words, Damaged Feelings in Coronavirus Fight (breitbart, Mar 3, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/03/03/world-health-organization-warns-against-hurtful-words-damaged-feelings-in-coronavirus-fight/
“Using “incorrect” words and language may have a negative meaning and fuel stigmatizing attitudes towards coronavirus victims, the World Health Organization (WHO) warned on Monday.
The agency’s director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, released a document that cautioned those who associate the viral epidemic with “China,” “Wuhan” or “Asia” in particular to be more aware of people’s feelings.
He said the “stigma” around coronavirus is “more dangerous than the virus itself.”
When talking about #COVID19, certain words & language may have a negative meaning for people and fuel stigmatizing attitudes https://t.co/yShiCMfYF3 #coronavirus pic.twitter.com/d54qL4LY2H
— World Health Organization (WHO) (@WHO) March 2, 2020
The Ethiopian pointed journalists and commentators towards a special WHO document that outlined all the accepted U.N. protocols for dealing with coronavirus commentary.
In particular, any association between coronavirus and the country and/or city of its origin should not be used. The document says:
Don’t attach locations or ethnicity to the disease, this is not a “Wuhan Virus”, “Chinese Virus” or “Asian Virus”. The official name for the disease was deliberately chosen to avoid stigmatisation – the “co” stands for Corona, “vi” for virus and “d” for disease, 19 is because the disease emerged in 2019.2 UNAIDS terminology guidelines: from ‘AIDS victim’ to ‘people living with HIV’; from ‘fight against AIDS’ to ‘response to AIDS’.
WHO also wants no negative connotations to be held against those who suffer: It says:
Social stigma in the context of health is the negative association between a person or group of people who share certain characteristics and a specific disease. In an outbreak, this may mean people are labelled, stereotyped, discriminated against, treated separately, and/or experience loss of status because of aperceived linkwith a disease. Such treatmentcan negatively affect those with the disease, as well as their caregivers, family, friends and communities. People who don’t have the disease but share other characteristics with this group may also suffer from stigma. The current COVID-19 outbreak has provoked social stigma and discriminatory behaviours against people of certain ethnic backgrounds as well as anyone perceived to have been in contact with the virus.
Ultimately WHO wants an approach that is devoid of any negatives but instead focusses on any positives – however slim they are:
When talking about coronavirus disease, certain words (i.e suspect case, isolation…) and language may have a negative meaning for people and fuel stigmatizing attitudes. They can perpetuate existing negative stereotypes or assumptions, strengthen false associations between the disease and other factors, create widespread fear, or dehumanise those who have the disease. This can drive people away from getting screened, tested and quarantined. We recommend a ‘people-first’ language that respects and empowers people in all communication channels, including the media.
This is not the first time Tadros has cautioned the global community over its perception of the coronavirus and warned that language must change.
As Breitbart News reported, last month he warmly praised China for its response to the deadly outbreak, saying it has “bought the world time” and other nations should watch and learn before making the most of it.
Tedros rejected outright claims China’s bureaucratic paralysis and institutional negligence had in any way contributed to the global spread of the disease.
Instead he wants China to serve as a model of efficiency and advanced medical care.
He reinforced that approach when he made another announcement praising China, expressing confidence in the measures it had taken to control the spread of the contagion, as Breitbart News reported.”
Pension reform in France: anti-government demonstration in Paris
In France, protesters marched against the government’s decision to fast-track pension reform through parliament by using a rarely-used decree that bypasses the need for a vote.
Prime Minister Edouard Philippe caught the opposition off guard on Saturday by announcing that the government would pass the pensions bill by executive decree, abruptly ending a bitter parliamentary debate on one of President Emmanuel Macron’s signature reforms.
The announcement was slammed by leftist unions and parties as proof of what they see as Macron’s authoritarian tendencies

Migrants in, journalists out
Turkish authorities built a fence yesterday and told journalists it was supposed to stop everyone (them and the migrants) from going to the Turkish side of the hot spot. They kicked the journalists out, but kept letting vans with migrants, stopping only those on foot. Now every migrant can go, but no journalist.
A migrant told another channel that Turkey is supplying them with food and water. There also are reports that those near the border are not allowed to go back even if they want to.
Greek authorities said that there was an organized attack at the border during the night.
New hot spot will be near Doiran (close to both the Bulgarian and Greek border)
