US Navy, Marine Corps to Ban Personal Firearms for Foreign Troops on US Bases (sputniknews, Feb 25, 2020)

“International service members aligned with the US Navy and US Marine Corps (USMC) will soon be restricted from purchasing and carrying personal weapons on US bases following the 2019 killing of three people by a Saudi airman at Naval Air Station Pensacola in Florida.
Foreign troops training with members of the Navy and USMC on bases in the US or its territories will be prohibited from the possession, use, transport and storage of privately owned firearms and ammunition under a new set of regulations imposed by the services.
“IMS [international military students] are authorized use of government furnished firearms and ammunition when specifically required for official training off of a DON [Department of Navy] installation but under the control of the DON, and aboard DON installations or property,” noted an unclassified message from Acting Navy Secretary Thomas Modly on January 20.
According to Military(.)com, international service members at Navy and USMC bases have until April 15 and May 1, respectively, to sign agreements on the new regulations, or their Pentagon-sponsored A-2 visas or related travel orders will be revoked. Foreign troops’ family members over the age of 18 will also be required to sign.
“Failure to do so will result in immediate expulsion from training or school, and orders generated for immediate transfer back to their home country, to include accompanying family members,” the USMC notice to troops read, according to the outlet.
The unclassified Navy release explained that these changes come as a direct response to the December 6, 2019, mass shooting carried out by Royal Saudi Air Force Lt. Mohammed Saeed Alshamrani at the Pensacola base. It was later determined that the shooter had been able to subvert gun laws, which prohibit a foreigner with a non-immigrant visa from buying a firearm, by acquiring a hunting license. He was then able to legally purchase the murder weapon – a semiautomatic handgun with an extended magazine.
Sputnik reported in December that the FBI had issued a report on May 22, 2019, which specifically warned businesses that “extremists and other criminal actors” could attempt to buy firearms with a “valid hunting license or permit.”
Just days before Modly’s announcement, US Attorney General William Barr asserted to members of the US Department of Justice that the Alshamrani’s shooting was “an act of terrorism” that “was motivated by jihadist ideology.”
While the service is moving to ban private firearms and ammunition for foreign troops on US bases, the USMC announced last month that approximately 3,200 military police officers would now be eligible to bring their own privately owned weapons onto the bases, reported the New York Times. Like the previously mentioned policy changes, this new rule came about as a response to the Pensacola mass shooting.”

“Iran might be advancing its support to Houthi rebels in the conflict in Yemen, a senior US State Department official told reporters.
“I think Iran’s support to Houthis, especially in areas like sending advanced weapons, is continuing without any diminution,” the official said during a press briefing on Tuesday. “They might even be stepping it up.”
According to the official, Iran’s support enables the Houthis to “threaten” Saudi Arabia to launch advanced missiles at civilian airports and, “potentially,” threaten US citizens.
The official went on to say that international donors will suspend many assistance programs in Yemen over the next two months if Houthi rebels do not stop impeding aid operations.
The United States hopes that Houthi rebels will “change their behavior” and the measures to limit aid will not be necessary, the state department official added.
Earlier in February, the United Nations said it could reduce the humanitarian assistance to the northern Yemeni areas over the new restrictions imposed in the Houthi-controlled areas. Similar statements have been made by the United Kingdom and the United States.
Yemen has been engulfed in an armed conflict between government forces led by President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi and the Houthi rebels since 2015, with Iran said to be providing support for the latter.

14% of Recovered Covid-19 Patients in Guangdong Tested Positive Again
About 14% of patients who recovered from the novel coronavirus and were discharged from hospitals in southern China’s Guangdong province were tested positive again in later check-ups, according to the local health authority. A positive test suggests the recovered patients may still carry the virus, adding complexity to efforts to control the outbreak.…
Health authorities in the southern island province of Hainan also confirmed that some recovered patients had tested positive again. The authorities required discharged patients to stay home under quarantine for 14 days, and allowed them to be released after both throat and anal swab tests showed negative.

A forensic psychologist who testified for the prosecution at the Harvey Weinstein trial about “rape myths” was hit by a car while crossing a street and has multiple broken bones, Law&Crime has learned.
Dr. Barbara Ziv is currently hospitalized.
Law&Crime attempted to learn more about when and where the incident occurred. We received confirmation by phone that Ziv is in the hospital, but no more information than that was forthcoming. Ziv is based in the Philadelphia area, so we reached out to Philadelphia Police. We have not heard back.
Though there is no evidence to suggest that Ziv being hit by a car is in any way related to the Weinstein trial, this may be seen as suspicious by some given the timing of the incident. Weinstein’s history of having people followed is well-documented; so are alleged threats against those who have spoken out against him.

If I had the time, I’d write a short story about the funniest joke in the history of humanity. This joke was short and sweet and spray-painted graffiti-like on the wall of an inner-city bridge where train commuters would see it every day going to work. It all started somewhere around Philadelphia.
I wish I had the time because, man, it was one funny joke. –Something about a one-eyed imam riding a subway, who sees a kid sitting across from him with his hair dyed blue, green and red. The imam says to the kid he wonders if he’s his son because once-upon-a-time he had relations with a parrot. Anyhow, there’s more to it but I can’t say it. Too dangerous.
See, Philly commuters got it first. No one knows who wrote the joke. There were a lot of conspiracy theories floating around, of course. Some said it was an FSB operation, others said the Chi-Coms were behind it. Others said it could only have come from Jerry Seinfeld working for Mossad. Seinfeld denied it and had to go into hiding. In the end, not one forensics lab anywhere was able to track down the source.
Of course, a joke this funny merits repeating, so it was. It spread slowly, at first, but then exponentially. People most often told it before it had really sunk in–while they could still talk without laughing, because once the full depth and breadth of the punchline got a hold of them, the result was uncertain. Some survived, some didn’t.
Tragically, people were asphyxiated by their own incessant laughter. It was gruesome to witness. Others recovered but with reoccurring giggles. Sadly, medical science tried frantically to find a vaccine for laughter, but could not extract enough Leftism from the ether to make it work.
The World Health Organization was slow to call it a pandemic. They had skin in the game in the form of a bad bond scheme, plus some other dubious optics. The CDC very effectively tracked the spread. It found the joke travelled efficiently across what some scientists thought would be demographic barriers. It translated very well, for example, into Mandarin. Hungarian, a historically-isolating language for its natives, offered a good translation yet Hungarian survival rates were above average. Researchers discovered, surprisingly, that the Hungarian penchant for morosity helped with both resistance and recovery. Following some delay it even adapted to Swahili. In its beginning, Canada’s Prime Minister praised the joke for being the product of diverse and inclusive thinking–right up until he dropped dead. Scientists watched it move vigorously through various religious sectors. Only Islam branded the joke blasphemous. Horrors upon horrors were seen worldwide as observant Muslims beheaded their laughing brothers and sisters, only to then behead themselves upon finally “getting it”.
The joke revealed itself to be resistant to genetic tampering. This was proven when both Angela Merkel and Recep Erdogan ordered their respective court jesters to explain it. In both cases jesters had to insert additional lines of description for their leaders’ understanding. Both eventually succumbed, still.
The joke illuminated weaknesses in global supply chains. It started the repatriation of American manufacturing. It revealed huge cracks in the Chinese Communist Party, leading to revolution. It brought a screeching halt to Globalism. The European Union fell apart. George Soros never got it. Instead, he died peacefully while attempting to taxidermy himself with rose petals. The joke showed the world which countries had responsible health care systems and which did not. The “careful” Japanese turned out to be quite reckless in this regard. It triggered a world-wide debt crisis because Central Banks threw printing presses into overdrive to stave off economic collapse. This resulted in a new world reserve currency nicknamed the Goldback. This was coined by President Trump, who supported it with a gold derivative, resulting in an American rennaissance.
The joke showed us it was more than a Black Swan. For better and worse it shone a light on much of what was working in our world and what was not. It revealed corruption and intellectual dishonesty previously hidden. It also prompted heroism and great acts of selflessness.

Hundreds of residents rallied in Lesbos island’s Mytilene on Thursday, on the second consecutive day of a general strike against government plans to erect new migrant detention centres on the island.
Footage shows people marching across the city and chanting slogans, as well as closed local businesses amid the strike.
A member of the Council of North Aegean Prefecture, Nikos Manavis, mentioned the previous day’s protests and said that “last night was a big win for the people of Lesbos” over “government’s repression forces on the island of Lesbos”.

On Wednesday evening, violent clashes erupted between the riot police and protesters attacking a military camp on Lesbos island.

Greece: Chios island descends into chaos as residents protest new migrant camps
Several people were injured in clashes between residents of the Greek island Chios and riot police on Tuesday, during protests against government plans to build new migrant camps on the island. Similar protests were also held on the island of Lesbos, where authorities also plan on erecting a new detention centre.
According to reports, the protesters attempted to prevent the arrival of excavating machines, which were to be used in the construction of the new migrant camps.
Footage shows the protesters scuffling with policemen, before tear gas is launched, followed by the protesters fleeing from smoke. According to reports, the police also used flash grenades to disperse the crowd.

SHANGHAI/SEOUL (Reuters) – Asia reported hundreds of new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, including an American soldier stationed in South Korea, as the United States warned of a pandemic, the disease spread in Europe and Brazil confirmed Latin America’s first infection.
World stocks tumbled for the fifth day on fears of prolonged disruption to global supply chains, while safe-haven gold rose back toward seven-year highs.
Stock markets globally have wiped out $3.3 trillion of value in the past four trading sessions, as measured by the MSCI all-country index.

“The Trump administration can withhold millions of dollars in law enforcement grants to force states to cooperate with U.S. immigration enforcement, a federal appeals court in New York ruled Wednesday in a decision that conflicted with three other federal appeals courts.
The ruling by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan overturned a lower court’s decision ordering the administration to release funding to New York City and seven states – New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Washington, Massachusetts, Virginia and Rhode Island.
The states and city sued the U.S. government after the Justice Department announced in 2017 that it would withhold grant money from cities and states until they gave federal immigration authorities access to jails and provide advance notice when someone in the country illegally is about to be released.
Before the change, cities and states seeking grant money were required only to show they were not preventing local law enforcement from communicating with federal authorities about the immigration status of people who were detained.
At the time, then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions said: ‘So-called “sanctuary” policies make all of us less safe because they intentionally undermine our laws and protect illegal aliens who have committed crimes.’
In 2018, the Justice Department imposed additional conditions on the grant money, though challenges to those have not yet reached the appeals court in New York.
The 2nd Circuit said the plain language of relevant laws make clear that the U.S. attorney general can impose conditions on states and municipalities receiving money.
And it noted that the U.S. Supreme Court has repeatedly observed that the federal government maintains broad power over states when it comes to immigration policies.
In the past two years, federal appeals courts in Chicago, Philadelphia and San Francisco have ruled against the federal government by upholding lower-court injunctions placed on the enforcement of some or all of the challenged conditions.
‘While mindful of the respect owed to our sister circuits, we cannot agree that the federal government must be enjoined from imposing the challenged conditions on the federal grants here at issue,’ the 2nd Circuit three-judge panel said in a decision written by Judge Reena Raggi.
‘These conditions help the federal government enforce national immigration laws and policies supported by successive Democratic and Republican administrations. But more to the authorization point, they ensure that applicants satisfy particular statutory grant requirements imposed by Congress and subject to Attorney General oversight,’ the appeals court said.
The Justice Department praised the decision, issuing a statement calling it a ‘major victory for Americans’ and saying it recognizes that the attorney general has authority to ensure that grant recipients are not thwarting federal law enforcement priorities…”

US Blacklists Lebanese Individuals, Entities over Hezbollah Links

“The United States on Wednesday added a host of Lebanese individuals and entities it said were linked to the Martyrs Foundation to its designated “global terrorists” lists, according to a notice on the US Treasury Department’s website.
US officials have previously targeted the Lebanon-based Martyrs Foundation, an organization the department has said channels financial support to several militant groups, including Hezbollah.
“Hezbollah profits from the sale of goods vital to the Lebanese peoples’ health and economy, such as pharmaceuticals and gasoline,” said Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin. “The Trump Administration stands with the Lebanese people, and we are committed to exposing and holding accountable Hezbollah’s terror-funding business schemes.”
The US Treasury Department said in a statement that its Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) had blacklisted Atlas Holding for being owned or controlled by the Martyrs Foundation, as well as senior Atlas official Kassem Mohamad Ali Bazzi, and 10 Atlas-affiliated companies.
Jawad Nur-al-Din and Sheikh Yusuf Aasi were also designated for being leaders or officials of the Martyrs Foundation, which was designated for supporting terrorism in July 2007. Mirath S.A.L., which is owned or controlled by Jawad Nur-al-Din, was also designated.
Hezbollah put the Lebanese banking sector at risk through its deep coordination with Jammal Trust Bank, which was designated as an SDGT in August 2019. Atlas Holding — a company controlled by the Martyrs Foundation and subordinate to Hezbollah’s Executive Council — along with several of its subsidiaries banked freely at Jammal Trust Bank despite their open affiliation with previously designated Hezbollah entities.
In fact, Jammal Trust Bank facilitated hundreds of millions of dollars in transactions through the Lebanese financial system on behalf of Atlas Holding and its subsidiaries, and aided Hezbollah officials in evading scrutiny on these accounts from Lebanese banking authorities, said the Treasury.
As a result, all property of those targeted that fall under US jurisdiction must be blocked and reported to OFAC, whose rules generally bar all US persons from dealing with them. Further, those blacklisted are subject to secondary sanctions under which OFAC can penalize foreign financial institutions which deal with them.
Hezbollah was designated by the Department of State as a Foreign Terrorist Organization in October 1997.”

“Scores of Muslims are being beaten mercilessly by pro-government Hindutva mobs, who are burning down Muslim-owned properties, including shops and houses, and desecrating Muslim religious sites, as deadly violence against India’s Muslim population leaves at least 24 people dead on Wednesday, including a policeman, and more than 200 injured.
New Delhi has been rocked by anti-Muslim violence since Parliament approved a new citizenship law in December that provides rapid naturalisation for foreign-born minorities while depriving India’s indigenous Muslim population of those same rights.
Videos surfaced on social media showing Muslims in northeast Delhi leaving their homes with their belongings.
The violence, the deadliest in decades in Delhi, erupted in multiple parts of northeast Delhi on Sunday but turned deadly on Monday, several hours ahead of US President Donald Trump’s arrival, who was on his first official visit to the country.
On Tuesday, fresh violence broke out when armed Hindu mobs went on a rampage in parts of northeast Delhi, which has a sizeable Muslim population – just 18 kilometres away from where Trump and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi were holding talks.
A group of around 50 right-wing Hindu rioters in Mustafabad attacked the anti-CAA protest site, injuring several people including children on Tuesday evening.
Attackers armed with rods and pistols, vandalised two mosques, injuring several children sitting inside the mosques. Many of the injured had gunshot wounds, while one person died on spot, The Wire, a Delhi-based news outlet, reported
What has trigged the violence?
The controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) – rendered unconstitutional, anti-Muslim and a threat to the pluralist structure of India by critics – triggered massive unrest in India after it was passed in December last year. In Delhi prolonged peaceful sit-ins, mostly held by Muslims, went on for months.
On Sunday in northeast Delhi, supporters of CAA attacked anti-CAA protesters, mostly woman, who had blocked a road and were demanding revocation of the law.
A frenzied Hindu mob, armed with iron rods, sticks and stones, charged at Muslim protesters while shouting “Jai Shri Ram” or Hail Lord Ram, a Hindi deity.
Protesters alleged that a Hindu mob, accompanied by police, threw stones at them that triggered massive violence between the two groups.
Police resorted to teargas shelling but struggled to quell the rioters, who were running rampant, burning and looting shops owned by Muslims, pelting stones and thrashing people. The Hindu goons also attacked Muslim localities and vandalised mosques.
A Reuters news agency reported that the police watched as mute spectators and did little to foil the violence.
Eyewitnesses said police stood behind the goons, who were hell-bent on vandalising Muslims properties. They found police stood silent when a mob destroyed shops with Muslim names, pulled out vehicles and set them ablaze.
In some areas where section 144 – which forbids the gathering of four or more people – was imposed, Hindu mobs attacked Muslims, again while the police watched in silence.
Earlier on Sunday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Kapil Mishra, informed anti-CAA protesters that they must vacate the peaceful sit-ins in the northeastern Jafrabad and Maujpur areas of Delhi.
Accompanied by pro-CAA protesters and flanked by the deputy commissioner of police in northeast Delhi, Mishra gave a three-day ultimatum to the police to clear the road where anti-CAA protesters were sitting, or else he would “handle the matter himself”.
Many critics and opposition leaders have criticised Mishra for his speech that allegedly provoked the violence, claiming many lives and leaving scores of people, mostly Muslims, homeless.
However, Mishra, in a series of tweets said he has received multiple death threats. “I have received death threats and some people are abusing me,” Mishra said. “But, I am not scared because I have not done anything wrong by supporting the CAA.”
According to a report by The Caravan, a Delhi-based magazine, Hindu mobs attacked Muslims in areas that fall in the constituency represented by Modi’s BJP in the parliament.
Another local area where Hindu mobs went on their deadly rampage falls in the assembly constituencies recently won by the BJP in elections.
In the Ashok Nagar area of Delhi, a mosque was set on fire by right-wing Hindu goons. In another video footage, a man is seen climbing up the minaret, attempting to place a Hindu nationalist flag atop it. The mob then paraded around the mosque and burnt down shops around it, The Wire reported.
On Monday, a Mazar (a mausoleum or shrine in the Muslim world) was set on fire by a group of pro-government Hindutva rioters who openly accepted they had in a video, with their faces blurred.
In another video, verified by AltNew, a fact-checking website, a group of injured protesters lying on the roadside were being beaten and forced to sing the Indian national anthem by the police.
In some videos, the police were visibly seen taking sides and helping the goons attacking Muslims. “Go ahead and throw stones,” a policeman was seen shouting to the supporters of CAA.
“We are planning to leave Delhi if the violence does not stop. We feel scared, anything can happen anytime as violence against Muslims is going unabated,” a group of Muslim students told The New Arab.
Delhi’s Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, called on people to maintain law and order. He said the situation in Delhi is “alarming and the army should be brought in to control further riots.”
Before meeting Amit Shah, India’s home minister on Tuesday, Kejriwal claimed that the police could not do anything because they were not getting orders from the seniors.
However, the Union Home Ministry, under whom Delhi’s police forces work, ruled out calling the army, saying adequate forces and police are on the ground.
Denying allegations that not enough forces are present on ground to control the situation, a Delhi police official said, “We have enough forces on the ground. Senior police officials are constantly monitoring the situation. The home ministry is continuously supporting us.”
All the private and government schools in northeast Delhi were closed following orders released by the Delhi government.
On Wednesday Modi appealed for calm, saying agencies are working on the ground “to ensure peace and normalcy.”
Media and journalists attacked
Scores of journalists covering the incidents of violence claimed that they were attacked by the frenzied mobs, who were taking their equipment, checking photos and videos and asking them to prove their religion.
Akash, a correspondent for JK 24×7 was shot at in east Delhi’s Maujpur, while covering the violence. He was rushed to nearby hospital in a serious condition.
Times of India, one of the leading English-language daily newspapers, published a first-hand account by a photojournalist, who surrounded by a Hindu mob trying to snatch his camera and asking him to “prove his religion.”
“They threatened to take off my pants to confirm my religion. I then folded my hands and said I was just a photographer,” he wrote.
Another account by female journalist published by Firstpost revealed the horrific violence going on in northeast Delhi areas, where she wrote about being chased by the Hindu mobs, only narrowly escaping.
Two journalists belonging to the NDTV news channel were also badly beaten on Tuesday morning.
President Trump, who held bilateral meetings with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, declined to comment on the situation.
“I don’t want to discuss that. I want to leave that to India and hopefully they’re going to make the right decision for the people,” he said.
Amnesty International on Monday said that “anti-Muslim sentiment permeates” the policies of both United States and Indian leaders, who share values of “bigotry and hostility”, in a joint statement ahead of Trump’s visit.”

“I notice that some people, who have a political project to impose standards that are incompatible with the values of the [French] Republic but based on a misguided conception of religion, are using the status of associations to implement the project of political Islam,” denounced Attal on French television channel CNews.
Associations are non-governmental organizations that benefit from legal status under a law adopted by France in 1901. The legal status allows associations and NGOs to benefit from several advantages, such as tax exemption.
“I made proposals to the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister to thwart [Islamism] projects,” added the French official.
According to Attal, France “must supervise the opening of associations better, especially when their services target minors.”
Authorities should also “better punish” associations promoting Islamism, and “support” those defending “the values of the Republic.”
Associations that teach Arabic lessons “aim sometimes to attract children and families and recruit them [for Islamism agendas],” he added.
In 2019, French authorities closed five unofficial religious schools functioning under an association’s legal status. Authorities also prevented 27 similar institutions from opening, revealed Attal.
The French official’s statement comes amid the raging debate in France about the rise of Islamism. The increasing numbers of terrorist attacks in Europe are also adding fuel to the debate.
According to recent statistics from the French Ministry of the Interior, France recorded an increase of 130% of racist incidents between 2018 and 2019. The number of attacks against Muslims increased by 54%.”
