‘EU Cannot Stop Turkey in Eastern Mediterranean’ – Northern Cyprus FM (sputniknews, Jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/analysis/202001241078117950-eu-cannot-stop-turkey-in-eastern-mediterranean–northern-cyprus-fm/
“Foreign Affairs Minister of the unrecognised Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Kudret Ozersay said on Tuesday that some EU countries are attempting to mediate in Cyprus over natural resources.
In an interview with Sputnik, Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister and Northern Cyprus presidential candidate in the upcoming elections in April, Kudret Ozersay commented on the situation around gas-field exploration by Turkey on the Cyprus shelf, Turkey’s agreements with Libya, threats from the EU regarding Ankara and Nicosia’s actions, as well as spoke about his programme for the development of TRNC in case of his victory in the elections.
The recently signed Turkey-Libya maritime deal can be seen as a result of the process of activation of the TRNC in the eastern part of the Eastern Mediterranean to protect its rights and interests, Kudret Ozersay believes:
“In recent years, TRNC has abandoned its previous tactic of verbally protesting against unilateral steps by the Greek community on the island, and has begun to take concrete proactive steps. This process was ultimately marked by the signing of an agreement with Libya”, the foreign minister said.
According to him, Turkey’s steps have weakened Greece’s position in the Eastern Mediterranean:
“Turkey’s policy in the region has managed to weaken the position of Greece and Greek Cypriots, who are trying to have their direct influence on both the mainland and the island part of the shelf”, he said.
However, according to Ozersay, both Libya and Turkey uphold the principle that the maritime jurisdiction of the islands may be subject to less or no influence than that of the mainland. This approach was enshrined in the text of the signed bilateral agreement between Turkey and Libya:
“This is a significant point because, for example, the disagreements between Egypt and Greece are linked to how Greece considers the distance between itself and Egypt, taking the island part as a basis, rather than the mainland part”, Ozersay continued.
In his view, if Turkey and Egypt sit down at the negotiating table to discuss this issue, it will be resolved and the balance of power will take on a new dimension. Furthermore, the issue of determining the side border of territorial waters between Syria and Turkey in the eastern part of the Eastern Mediterranean will also be on the agenda at a certain stage.
“What’s important here is to look at the developing picture on a large scale”, Ozersay explained.
TRNC Foreign Minister has stressed that Southern Cyprus is trying to present Turkey as an occupying country, which is not true:
“Türkiye Petrolleri Anonim Ortakl???, the company to which we have granted the exploration license, is not operating on behalf of Turkey, but on behalf of TRNC. Greek Cypriots, who ignore this fact, persistently try to present Turkey as “aggressor” and “occupant”, he said.
Turkish Cypriot Foreign Minister has added that they are trying to form a misconception about Turkey’s actions in the EU, trying to set European countries against Turkey, an approach that cannot be called reasonable.
According to Kudret Ozersay, the Greek Cypriots are satisfied with the current status quo and therefore seek to link the resolution of all issues to the Cyprus problem. However, the truth is that a settlement has not been reached for over 50 years.
“In my view, the solution to the Cyprus issue, as well as the path towards peace and stability in the region, lies in the establishment of cooperation on specific points. The most striking example is natural gas. Agreement on gas exploration and production should be reached as soon as possible. This kind of phased cooperation will ensure stability in the region”, he said.
Commenting the statement made by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell on the possible imposition of sanctions against Turkey due to its exploration works in the Eastern Mediterranean, Ozersay said that within the EU there is a principle of solidarity: when the question of a state’s foreign policy arises, it pushes other players to show solidarity. However, this principle, unfortunately, deprives the EU of the opportunity to facilitate the settlement of international disputes involving one of its member states.
“For that reason, we do not see the EU as a reliable or neutral player in resolving the Cyprus or gas issue, since Brussels, following its internal principles, will continue to support the Greek side”, he noted.
However, Turkish Cypriot politician does not believe that the EU will implement these threats. It should not be forgotten that the world economy is built on relations of interconnectedness. Earlier, the EU was known to have attempted to impose economic sanctions against Russia over the Crimea but this tactic did not bring the desired result, as EU trade relations with Russia have reached a point where they were unable to impose economic sanctions against Russia at the level they claimed. Similarly, Turkey’s presence in the Eastern Mediterranean cannot be ignored.
“If French, Italian and American companies that invest in the region want to participate in the west and north of Turkey in the future, they must act in the region in a balanced and sound manner. TRNC has the resources to keep the other side from taking the wrong steps in the future”, he concluded…”
TRUE: Erdogan has Western Europe by the balls.
His threat: Unleash all said refugees and more onto Western Europe. Plus, his Turkish cells within Europe. And if successful, he’ll redirect more ‘refugees’ as they come in. All he has to do is open up a ‘refugee’ corridor within the Syria-Turkey safe zone.
Really dumb cowards, those European leaders who allowed the Turkish diaspora to gain so much power through threats. Germany belongs to the Turks although the Germans don’t know it yet, but Merkel does.
** BACKGROUND—Big Oil is All Around Turkey **
Turkey’s oil production doesn’t tell much of a story. Production is less than 70,000 boe/d, and Turkey imports 90% of its oil and natural gas needs.
Nor is Turkey about proven reserves: It only has about 270 million barrels of proven oil reserves and 218 billion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, so it isn’t exactly Iraq—which borders Turkey to the southeast.
https://oilandgas-investments.com/2013/top-stories/turkey-oil-onshore-offshore/
That is why Turkey wants the Greek Islands, the oil and gas around them will reduce its dependence on foreign sources.
The world hasn’t seen this type of conquest since the glory days of the Roman Empire, they would settle military vets in areas they wanted to assimilate into the Empire and let them either pacify the natives or get into trouble and the Rome would send in rescue forces to protect the Roman Citizens. Europe still have the power to kick the invaders out but they don’t have the leaders who will fight for the survival of the European cultures. They are starting to arise and will lead the European counter revolution to preserve what remains of Western Civilization and the European culture that created that civilization.
Fight for Security in France: No Success in Past Two Years – Police Union Representative (sputniknews, Jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/analysis/202001241078114211-fight-for-security-in-france-no-success-in-past-two-years–police-union-representative/
“Recent figures from the Ministry of the Interior show that the number of attacks on citizens is growing inexorably in France. In 2019, 30 injuries per hour were recorded; that is 714 cases per day with their total number reaching 260,500. The number of beatings has increased by 8% compared to the previous year, and five times when compared to 2010.
To this should be added a 9% increase in the number of killings. Last year, 970 murders were committed, with an average of three per day.
Linda Kebbab, National Delegate to the SGP Police Union, says that she is not surprised by the figures from the Ministry of the Interior’s latest report. She believes that the data given is undoubtedly “lower than in reality.”
Regarding violence against women, despite measures proposed by the government and Secretary of State for Gender Equality Marlène Schiappa, the report indicates that 22,900 incidents of rape were recorded in 2019, with an average of 63 cases per day. This indicates an increase of 19 percent. However, in reality, the situation is even worse given that only one fifth of victims turn to the police for help, so about 100,000 rapes were committed over a year.
Theft is Not That Profitable
Even if some figures have fallen, this doesn’t mean that the Ministry of Internal Affairs has started performing better. If the statistics on armed robbery (7,600 per year, unchanged) and robbery without using weapons (79,100, -2%) seem correct, it, first of all, indicates changes in the criminal environment.
“For these acts, they are brought before a jury; so, we are talking about crimes. This is what holds potential robbers back,” Linda Kebbab explains.
“Robbing a jewellery store or a bank is difficult. Moreover, even small shops now have serious security systems in place. That is, robbing a store for €150 is not worth it. The ratio between the risk of being arrested and profit is no longer as interesting as before.”
The police have also noted this over the past few years: “the suspects tell us that armed robberies are only a stepping stone to the drug trade because they need cash to do that.” Instead of robbing shops, criminals prefer attacking and robbing people in public places. This leads to the increase in figures.
Interestingly enough, intentional damage to property has decreased by one point, after a three-point decrease in 2018. In 2019, more than 600,000 cases of intentional damage to property were registered, but the statistics don’t take everything into account.
“Unfortunately, often individuals don’t turn to police if their property has been slightly damaged. If there is no culprit, insurance companies don’t pay compensations,” Linda Kebbab explains.
The figures create the illusion of a calm and peaceful country.
Geography of Crime: Failure of Struggle for Security in the Country
In some regions, the crime rate is higher than in others, but only three departments saw a decrease in the number of attacks – Aude, Hautes-Alpes, and Somme. This indicates the national character of the problem, Linda Kebbab says.
“What are these regions united by? The Ministry of the Interior. This is a total failure. This is a failure of the department, which should force the police to work; this is the failure of law enforcement agencies,” she notes.
“Over the past two years, there has clearly been no success. The strategy doesn’t correspond to what is happening in reality. Too many law enforcement officers are working; at the end of 2019 they were working in overdrive, but this didn’t bring about any result – the employees are exhausted and this is unproductive. And you can’t even blame the Yellow Vests for this – this is a global problem, a problem of everyday strategy.”
This global problem appears to be felt by every employee, at their own level. One police officer said that his job was “the cask of Danaides.” He constantly feels that his efforts ultimately serve nothing. Not to mention the fact that the judiciary is often too lenient and therefore unable to prevent a relapse.
The situation is worrying even in Paris, where until recently there was a low crime rate “due to a higher concentration of police officers.” In 2019, the number of attacks in Paris increased by 9 points.
Given that police officers are exhausted, preventive work – patrolling and identifying offences in the process of wrong-doing – needs to be limited.
“You can’t be effective by forcing law enforcement officers to work 50 hours a week without any support from their command,” Linda Kebbab says.
As you know, the police are sensitive people. They take any problem with their bosses hard. The death of Cédric Chouviat during a police check enabled the French president to demand “good behaviour” from law enforcement officials. That order was poorly received.
“They say they won’t be engaged in preventive activities anymore – if it’s for them take pictures of me, condemn and punish me, it’s all in vain.”
Of course, Linda Kebbab regrets the death of Cédric Chouviat, but she fears the social network effect. The SGP union has supported the Grand Amendment in the Senate: if recording police operations is still legal, the police want their faces to be blurred in the videos posted on Twitter and other social networks.
“Posting videos of a police operation is a universal right. But nobody wants to see their face on the internet without any investigation.”
The climate of irriatation appears to be growing daily among police officers.
Political Unrest
Nevertheless, despite this and contrary to the Yellow Vest movement, Linda Kebbab wants to believe that the connection between the police and the people is still strong. Indeed, according to a poll by IFOP, 50% of French citizens still have a positive image of law enforcement officers.
Will urban unrest endanger areas and riots at Yellow Vests’ demonstrations continue in 2020? According to Linda Kebbab, the latter have become a “real turn” and a “significant event of 2019”, a real challenge for police officers, caught between the hammer of protests and the anvil of the current government. No one can answer this question; and, given the circumstances, the lack of good governance may lead to disaster:
“There is an upsurge in violence, constant tension in French society; a spark is enough to make everything explode. There is such detachment from what is happening on the ground… and this is not taken into account,” Linda Kebbab concluded…”
Allow the communities to recruit, train and arm local militias they will serve to protect the locals and preserve a European Europe.

Iran Accuses US of ‘Officially’ Promoting ‘State Terrorism’ Over Threats to New Quds Head (sputniknews, Jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/202001241078120897-iran-accuses-us-of-officially-promoting-state-terrorism-over-threats-to-new-quds-head/
“Iran’s Foreign Ministry has taken aim at the rhetoric of US special representative for Iran, Brian Hook, as the latter unambiguously stated that Commander Soleimani’s successor General Ghaani could meet the same fate.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi has blasted US threats to neutralise the newly appointed head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps’ elite Quds Force, Esmail Ghaani, as “an official publicising and blatant unveiling of targeted and state terrorism”.
“Now, after the Zionist regime [of Israel], the US is the second regime to officially announce that it has employed the resources of its government and armed forces for terrorist acts and that it will continue them in the future”, Mousavi explained, adding that Washington’s recourse to terrorist acts is a clear sign of the US establishment’s “weakness, desperation, and confusion”.
Mousavi called out “brazen remarks and terrorist acts” by US leaders, urging the international community to also condemn them “because the continuation of this trend would sooner or later befall everyone”.
The comments come in response to US special representative for Iran Brian Hook’s Thursday remarks that General Esmail Ghaani could end up like his predecessor, General Qasem Soleimani, killed in a US drone attack near Baghdad Airport on 3 January.
Hook expressed what was perceived as a threat in an interview with the newspaper Asharq al-Awsat on the side-lines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland.
General Soleimani, understood to have been the second most powerful man after the Iranian Supreme Leader Khamenei, was killed amid a controversy over New Year’s raids on the US Embassy in Iraq, with Iran-backed crowds battering down entrances and windows to the facility.
The drone strike was later revealed to have been ordered by US President Donald Trump, with authorities citing imminent threats and alleged evidence of Soleimani preparing new attacks on US personnel abroad…”
Those weren’t threats they were warnings and promises. Trump made the threat when he said he had the palaces of 52 of the Iranian leaders in the cross hairs.

Swedish Police Place Bet on Diversity to Tackle Crime Wave (sputniknews, Jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/europe/202001241078120828-swedish-police-place-bet-on-diversity-to-tackle-crime-wave/
“Despite the multicultural push, the police themselves have admitted to difficulties in meeting the government’s diversity goals, as more than half of applicants with a foreign background fail the admission tests. As of today, only 6 percent of the police force has a foreign background, as opposed to more than a quarter of the general population.
The Swedish government has instructed police to recruit more women and employees with a foreign background. This, as Swedish Radio put it, is meant “to boost competence and increase representation”.
“We need those skills, especially when the police are to grow. It is the language competence but also what I call cultural competence”, police commissioner Max Lutteman, who has a “national assignment to attract competence” told Swedish Radio.
According to Lutteman, immigrants are, among other things, crucial in investigations where the people involved hail from other cultures. By using investigators from the same culture, the police will be able to better understand the circumstances and the motive.
“I hope they feel that you represent a little more diversity. That they recognise themselves more, now that there is a broader culture within the police”, Iranian-Danish Natasha Pedersen, who has been admitted to police training at Södertörn University said.
The police, however, have admittedly struggled to meet those goals. Just under ten percent of those admitted to police training last fall were immigrants and just over two percent were women of an immigrant background.
While about 25 percent of the applicants had a foreign background, more than half of them failed to make the grade and performed poorly in language tests and other admissions tests. The police stressed that lowering admission requirements in order to recruit more immigrants and better reflect the general population is currently not under consideration. At present, only 6 percent of policemen have a foreign background.
In April 2017, the red-green coalition government pledged to increase the number of Swedish police officers by at least 10,000 by 2024 in order to counter gang violence and unrest in society. Currently, there about 30,000 officers. According to a recent report by the newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, there are “difficulties” in meeting this goal as well.
To put a damper on the raging gang wars and outbreaks of violence that include shootings and explosions, the police launched Operation Hoarfrost. According to the Crime Prevention Council, the total number of blasts alone has increased from 162 in 2018 to 263 in 2019. The police have yet to figure out what has caused the drastic increase.
“This is relatively new, so we cannot say for sure what the increase depends on. But our impression is that it is an effective means of pressure within organised crime”, Stefan Hector, the commander-in-chief for Operation Hoarfrost told Svenska Dagbladet.
One hypothesis is that the increased penalties for crimes involving firearms spurred the criminals into taking other means.
So far, very few of the explosions have been solved by the police. In police region South, where over 100 explosions occurred last year, only one person was convicted. According to the police, blasts are particularly difficult to investigate as any evidence is lost.
Since Sweden embraced mass immigration in the late 20th century, it has quickly gone from one of Europe’s most homogeneous nations to one of the most diverse, with more than a quarter of the Swedish population of 10 million having a foreign background. While numerous independent reports have highlighted immigrants’ overrepresentation in various crimes, including those of a sexual nature, the Swedish authorities have consistently denied any link, pinning the increase in crime on “social injustice” and “segregation”.”
We’re leaving! Historic moment EU chiefs sign off Brexit deal as UK one week from freedom (express, Jan 24, 2020)
https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1232740/Brexit-news-Ursula-von-der-Leyen-Charles-Michel-Boris-Johnson-deal-latest
“EUROPEAN UNION bosses have signed the Brexit withdrawal treaty confirming the United Kingdom’s departure from the bloc.
The EU commission’s Ursula von der Leyen and Council’s Charles Michel put their signature to Boris Johnson’s Brexit deal at a sombre ceremony today in Brussels. A copy will now be sent to Downing Street to allow the Prime Minister to complete the process ahead of its ratification in the EU Parliament next week. Writing on Twitter, EU Commission President Mrs von der Leyen said: “Charles Michel and I have just signed the Agreement on the Withdrawal of the UK from the EU, opening the way for its ratification by the European Parliament.”
EU Council chief Mr Michel added: “Things will inevitably change but our friendship will remain. We start a new chapter as partners and allies.”
Michel Barnier, the EU’s chief Brexit negotiator, also attended the event in the bloc’s Justus Lipsius building.
The EU’s presidents flew back from Israel, where they had been attending events to commemorate the Holocaust.
The 600-page withdrawal agreement will now be transported to the Prime Minister in London to complete the process.
EU Council officials will oversee the depository of the document today in London.
Downing Street has been keen to keep news of the historic event quiet.
Last night MEPs in the EU Parliament’s constitutional affairs committee recommended their colleagues back the deal in a institutional vote next week.
Just hours before Brexit was enshrined in UK law when the Queen granted Royal Assent to Mr Johnson’s deal with Brussels.
The Prime Minister’s spokesman said: “It has been a long three years but we have got Brexit over the line and the PM wants to move the whole country forward as one to a brighter future.”
Once Mr Johnson has added his signature to the withdrawal agreement, it will be transported back to Brussels where it will be stored in the bloc’s official archive.
Hailing an end to the long battle over Brexit, the moment marks the close of more than three years of wrangling over Britain’s departure.
The country is now set for a smooth exit from the bloc on January 31, some nine months after the orginal departure date…”

Machete Man With Violent Past Who Attacked UK Police Officer Locked Up For 16 Years (sputniknews, Jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/uk/202001241078126033-machete-man-with-violent-past-who-attacked-uk-police-officer-locked-up-for-16-years/
“Social media has reacted strongly to the news that a man who attacked a London police officer with a machete had a string of convictions for violence and rape. The Metropolitan Police has released video footage of the officer being attacked.
A man with a string of convictions for violence has been jailed for 16 years by a judge in London for a machete attack on a police officer.
Muhammad Rodwan, 56, attacked PC Stuart Outten last August after he made a routine traffic stop amid concerns that Rodwan was driving a van without insurance.
The Metropolitan Police has taken the unusual step of releasing footage of the incident, including graphic pictures of PC Outten covered in blood from wounds to the head and hands.
Police officers and members of the public reacted angrily on social media when Rodwan was acquitted of attempted murder.
Rodwan, who was living in Luton at the time of the attack, was convicted of grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of an offensive weapon.
?Twitter users were outraged on Thursday, 23 January, when it emerged that the jury had not been aware of Rodwan’s previous convictions.
In 1982 he was jailed for three years for rape and 15 years later he was convicted of wounding with intent after attacking two people with a machete.
Under English law juries are usually forbidden from hearing about a defendant’s previous convictions for fear that it will unfairly influence their verdict.
The trial heard that when Rodwan was brought to a police station after his arrest on 8 August last year he told the custody sergeant: “My life is worth more than his life.”
At the sentencing hearing on Friday, 24 January, Rodwan’s barrister tried to persuade the judge he should get a lower sentence because he claimed PC Outten used “excessive force” in attempting to arrest him.
The trial heard that when Rodwan was stopped by police he began arguing with PC Outten and his colleague PC Helen Brooks.
He punched PC Outten in the face and when the officers tried to arrest him for assaulting a police officer he returned to his van and brought out the machete, which had a 19 inch blade and had been specially sharpened.
The jury heard that PC Outten eventually managed to incapacitate Rodwan with his Taser but suffered dreadful injuries.
PC Brooks managed to kick the machete away from Rodwan, who was arrested when police reinforcements arrived.
PC Outten suffered a fractured skull, broken fingers and several deep wounds in his right arm, said: “What happened that day will always stay with me, I’ll always have that memory of how a plain and simple job can escalate into you having to fight for your life.”
He said: “I’ve been Taser trained since 2013 and luckily my training kicked in. When the first shot didn’t work, I remember thinking that if the second one didn’t work, that would be it and I’d be dead, but thankfully it did.”
Detective Chief Superintendent Richard Tucker said: “This frenzied, brutal attack on PC Outten is a stark reminder of the dangers London’s officers face and confront every day to keep the public safe and tackle crime.””
To stand and face the truth is required for any redemption. An award-winning poet and translator who can help with this redemption are important. A poet and a translator who mistakenly characterize Hungary’s current noble struggle–to be free from greater forces North, South, East and West–as a slide towards totalitarianism, undermines their own legitimacy. Being trapped in a Leftist ideology, they undermine their own truth.

France Asserts to Provide No Concession to Pakistan on Terror Funding During FATF Meeting (sputniknews, Jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/world/202001241078123522-france-asserts-to-provide-no-concession-to-pakistan-on-terror-funding-during-fatf-meeting/
“Pakistan is expected to be taken off the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, as major powers including the US, UK, France, Germany, and even Japan appear to be in favour of Islamabad, due to the changing geopolitical equation in the region.
A day after a possible reprieve to Pakistan from the terror financing watchdog’s list, France has claimed that it would objectively evaluate steps taken by Islamabad during the FATF plenary session in February.
The meeting of the FATF’s Asia/Pacific Group, which was held in Beijing between 21-23 January, analysed Pakistan’s situation from a technical point of view.
“France is determined to continue combating money laundering and terror financing, and on this occasion (February plenary session), will objectively evaluate, without any concession, Pakistan’s actions,” a French diplomatic official said in New Delhi on Friday.
Pakistan will present another report on actions undertaken by the Imran Khan government for implementing the plan of action which was given by the watchdog in June 2019, and required the implementation of 27 actions, or face the risk of being blacklisted in February 2020.
On Thursday, the Chinese foreign ministry extended its full faith in the steps taken by Pakistan. “Pakistan has made great efforts to strengthen its domestic counter-terrorism financing system with visible progress. Its political will and active efforts should be recognised and encouraged by the international community,” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said in Beijing on Thursday.
Not only China, but Islamabad had received support from almost all western countries. The Indian Express, Indian English daily citing diplomatic sources, reported: “There is a strong case against Pakistan since it was put on the grey list, but it was geopolitics at play- it seems the changing geopolitical environment helped Pakistan.”
Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has actively played the role of peacemaker during the recent Iran-US crisis and sent the country’s foreign minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi to Saudi Arabia, Oman, United States and Qatar on efforts to defuse tensions and promote peace in the Middle East.
Meanwhile, US Acting Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells, concluded a four-day visit to Pakistan where the two countries reaffirmed their resolve to continue to support the Taliban-US peace process.
US President Donald Trump, during a bilateral meeting with Imran Khan in Davos, stated: “We are getting along very well. I would say we’ve never been closer with Pakistan than we are right now”.
The statement is in sharp contrast to the January 2018 statement where Trump called US support of Pakistan ‘foolish’ since Islamabad had given the US “nothing but lies & deceit”. Last month, the Trump administration also announced the resumption of military training for Pakistan, which was suspended since 2018.”
Muslim Cleric Issues Fatwa Against Bollywood Film Director for ‘Showing Quran in Bad Light’ (sputniknews, jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/india/202001241078123594-muslim-cleric-issues-fatwa-against-bollywood-film-director-for-showing-quran-in-bad-light/
“The Bollywood movie “Gul Makai”, based on the story of the life and struggle of 22-year-old Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, has drawn the ire of a Muslim cleric.
A Muslim cleric from the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has issued a fatwa, an Islamic legal decree, against Amjad Khan, the director of a film about Pakistani Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai, who was shot by Taliban militants at the age of 14.
A poster for the film “Gul Makai” shows a girl holding a burning book in her hands with an explosion coming out of it. The cleric alleged that the book in question is the Quran, which means, per him, that the poster is against Islam and that the movie is showing their holy text as well as their religion in a “bad light”.
“Darul Ifta Jama Masjid Mufti issues a fatwa against Mehmood Khan, the director of the Bollywood movie Gul Makai. The poster of the movie shows a girl holding a book and the book is Quran, hence it is against Islam and showing their religion in bad light”, a letter issued by the Mosque read.
Speaking to Sputnik, the director of the film rubbished reports of filing any police complaint, saying:
“The cleric is the victim of misconception. He is a religious scholar, he is thinking that the lead actress, who is depicting Malala in the film, is holding a Quran in her hands. He is assuming that because of his prejudice and because the protagonist of the film is a Muslim, she will only hold the Quran. The film is about girls child education, he is unable to understand this. This is not a dignified move, but I will try to talk to him and will send him a letter”, he added.
Khan denied taking any legal action against the cleric as he doesn’t want him to land in legal trouble.
The movie, slated for release on 31 January, tells the story of Malala Yousafzai, a 22-year-old woman who became the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize for campaigning for girls’ education rights in 2014.”
Finns Party MP Risks Hate Speech Charges for Likening Asylum Seekers to Invasive Species (sputniknews, Jan 24, 2020)
https://sputniknews.com/europe/202001241078123475-finns-party-mp-risks-hate-speech-charges-for-likening-asylum-seekers-to-invasive-species/
“Juha Mäenpää denies being guilty of hatred against people and instead argued it was a spontaneous expression, while his fellow Finns party members have pledged to prevent legal proceding against him.
State Prosecutor Raija Toiviainen has asked for the Finnish parliament’s approval to charge MP Juha Mäenpää with hate speech for his statement made in June of last year, when he compared asylum seekers to an invasive species, the newspaper Hufvudstadsbladet reported.
Mäenpää spoke about asylum seekers with different religions coming to Finland and concluded his speech by citing a government programme to combat invasive species.
A preliminary investigation has been completed, and the police believe there are grounds to suspect that Mäenpää’s comment is incitement of hatred against a group of people.
Toiviainen interpreted Mäenpää’s statements as “improper” and “abusive”, but she also saw mitigating circumstances in the spontaneity of the statements.
For statements made by an MP during a parliamentary session, the parliament’s own approval is required for the state prosecutor to decide whether to prosecute or not. For this, a five-sixths majority is required.
Since the Finns hold 39 of the parliament’s 200 seats, they can in practice stop the prosecution, which they also intend to do. Finns leader Jussi Halla-aho stressed that protection against prosecution is in place “to prevent politics from moving from parliament to the courts”.
Halla-aho himself was convicted of hate speech in 2012 over blog posts dating back to 2008 and was compelled to delete them. Halla-aho likened Islam to paedophilia and said Somalis are predisposed to stealing and living off welfare, which the Supreme Court ruled doesn’t fall under the freedom of speech clause.
Former PM and current Speaker of Parliament Matti Vanhanen of the Cenre Party is deeply critical of the Finns’ interpretation and urged the party not to approach a legal matter in a political way.
At present, two other MPs are under pre-trial investigations into their controversial statements, Hussein al-Taee of the governing Social Democrat Party and Päivi Räsänen of the Christian Democrats.
Al-Taee is being investigated for a series of remarks disparaging religious and sexual minorities on Facebook between 2011 and 2012. The Helsinki Police Department said the right to prosecute has not expired because these posts have been circulated in the public domain for the past five years.
Räsänen is under scrutiny for her tweet in conjunction with Helsinki Pride on 18 June 2019. According to the Helsinki Police Department, the tweet suggested that the event portrays sin and shame as sources of pride and questioned the church’s participation in it.
“How does the foundation of the church’s teachings, the Bible, fit with elevating sin and shame as reasons for pride?” Räsänen was quoted as tweeting.
The Eurosceptic, anti-immigration, anti-globalist Finns founded in the 1990s, slowly emerged as a contender and even entered the government after the 2015 vote. In 2017, the party suffered a bitter schism as half of the Finns leadership, including its founder and perennial leader Timo Soini left. However, the newly minted Blue Reform party flopped bitterly in the 2019 election, leaving the Finns once again as the largest right-wing opposition party at 17.5 percent of the vote.”

Delingpole: George Soros Donates $1 Billion to Combat ‘Authoritarianism.’ Seriously? (breitbart, Jan 24, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/01/24/delingpole-george-soros-donates-1-billion-to-combat-authoritarianism-seriously/
“Financier and “philanthropist” George Soros is giving $1 billion to “universities to stop the drift towards authoritarianism.”
According to the Guardian:
In what he hailed as the “most important and enduring project of my life”, Soros said it was important to fund institutions that would help resist the drift towards growing authoritarianism in the US, Russia and China. He also launched a fresh attack on Donald Trump, calling the US president “the ultimate narcissist”.
Really?
Isn’t this like King Herod setting up a charity for the defence of the first born?
Sure, Soros can’t be held accountable for the “authoritarianism” in Russia and China, but he has probably done more than any man alive to ensure its spread in the U.S. and the rest of the West.
This is why President Viktor Orban drove Soros’s Central European University out of Hungary, by stripping it of its ability to issue U.S. degrees.
Orban didn’t do it for the sheer hell of it; nor, as the left-wing media would have us believe, because he is a far-right anti-Semite.
No, Orban did it because he quite rightly understood that Soros – through his Open Society Foundations – is one of the most pernicious enemies of freedom, free speech and true liberal values in the world today.
Whether it’s encouraging mass migration or pumping up the global warming scare narrative, Soros is a lord of misrule who thrives on and profits by the chaos he provokes and clandestinely finances.
Perhaps nowhere is the damage he has done more evident than in academe. Open debate and free inquiry have largely been suppressed by intolerant, cry bully special interest groups playing the identity politics game which Soros’s Open Society Foundations has done so much to promote.
One thing is for sure: not one cent of those billion dollars will go to a single university department or course worth the candle. Race and gender studies departments and fake sciences such as ecology and environmentalism will engage in a mad scramble for the free Soros money. Old school disciplines that actually teach something of value won’t get a look in.
And imagine, Soros calling Trump “the ultimate narcissist.”
If ever there were a textbook case of projection, this is it.”

MERKEL in Davos
Ohne Sicherheit keine Entwicklung.“

New Swedish Islamist Party Wants to Grant Muslims ‘Special Minority’ Status (breitbart, Jan 24, 2020)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2020/01/24/new-swedish-islamist-party-wants-grant-muslims-special-minority-status/
“A newly formed Swedish political party has proposed making all Muslims in Sweden a “special minority”, claiming that Muslims suffer daily from violence and verbal attacks.
The Nyans Party say they want Muslims in Sweden to be recognised in the same way the country recognises Sami peoples and Jews as special minorities, saying that they want so-called Islamophic crimes to receive a special classification under the law, SVT reports.
The party chairman Mikail Yüksel, who was kicked out of the Centre Party for his association with the ultra-nationalist Turkish Grey Wolves, told the broadcaster: “Sweden’s Muslims daily experience both physical and verbal attacks of a racist nature.”
“It is not the veil that must be fought, it is the oppression. At the same time, parents have the right to raise their children based on their culture and religion,” he added.
When his prior association with the Grey Wolves was raised, Yüksel said that he abstained from Turkish politics saying: “I meet people with different political opinions, but that doesn’t mean I share their opinions.”
Around 60 people are said to have attended a meeting for the party in the Stockholm suburb of Kista, the same area that was rocked by a bombing earlier this week.
The party, which was formed in November of last year, will not be the first attempt to create a Muslim-oriented political party in Sweden.
In 2017, the Swedish electoral authority refused to register the Jasin party after it was revealed that radical Islamists had largely taken over the party. Despite its spokesman claiming the party was for all Swedes, he admitted that many members were supportive of enacting sharia in Sweden.
Several other countries across Europe have also seen the rise of similar parties, the most successful among them being the Denk Party in the Netherlands which won three seats in the Dutch parliament in 2017.”

IRAQ – BAGHDAD – Iraqis mass to urge US troop ouster, youth rallies vie for spotlight
Baghdad (AFP) – Thousands of supporters of Iraqi cleric Moqtada Sadr amassed in Baghdad on Friday demanding the ouster of US troops, prompting rival protests seeking to keep the spotlight on months-long calls for reform.
Sadr’s march rattled the separate protest movement that has gripped the capital and Shiite-majority south since October, urging a government overhaul, early elections and more accountability.
Thousands of men, women and children massed under grey skies in east Baghdad’s Jadiriyah district, chanting “Get out, get out, occupier!”
Some waved signs in Arabic and English reading “Death to America” and one protester carried a cardboard cut-out of US President Donald Trump on the gallows.
Sadr himself did not attend, but a representative read a statement in his name.
It demanded all foreign forces leave Iraq, Iraqi-American security agreements be cancelled, Iraqi airspace be closed to US military aircraft and for Trump not to be “arrogant” when addressing Iraqi officials.
“If all this is implemented, we will deal with it as a non-occupying country — otherwise it will be considered a country hostile to Iraq,” the statement said.
Protesters later began peeling away and had mostly dispersed by early evening.
America’s military presence has been a hot-button issue in Iraq since a US drone strike killed Iranian general Qasem Soleimani and a top Iraqi commander in Baghdad on January 3.
Around 5,200 US troops are in Iraq to lead a global coalition fighting the Islamic State group, but Iraq said the strike against Soleimani violated that mandate.
Joint US-Iraqi operations were paused and outraged parliamentarians voted for all foreign forces to leave.
Baghdad offered to discuss a withdrawal timeline with Washington but US special envoy for the anti-IS coalition James Jeffrey said Thursday there was no “real engagement”.
– Tahrir rallies swell –
Long opposed to US troops, Sadr seized on public anger over the drone strike to plan “a million-strong, peaceful, unified demonstration to condemn the American presence and its violations”.
Even his rivals, pro-Iran factions from the Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary force, agreed to join.
Hashed commander Qais al-Khazali, once mentored by Sadr but now counted among his top competitors, endorsed the rally.
“To Trump, the fool — the people’s message of rejection was clear: if you don’t leave voluntarily, you’ll be ousted despite yourself,” he tweeted.
There had been worries Sadr’s supporters might storm the high-security Green Zone, home to the US embassy and other foreign missions, or the main anti-government protest camp in Tahrir Square.
By Friday afternoon, they did not appear to be heading towards either, but a few thousand youths flocked to Tahrir in a bid to keep the focus on their regime change agenda.
“The return of protesters to Tahrir is meant to prove ourselves, first, and to protect its peacefulness,” Karrar al-Saadi, a demonstrator in the square, told AFP.
He hinted that with all the attention on Sadr’s separate rally, there were fears security forces would try to clear Tahrir Square once and for all.
“When you open up a second front, you leave your back exposed to the enemy — and by enemy, I mean authorities and anyone seeking to use oppressive tactics,” Saadi said.
At least 470 people have died in protest-related violence since October, mostly demonstrators shot by live rounds or military-grade tear gas canisters.
Grand Ayatollah Ali Sistani, Iraq’s top Shiite authority, also tried to refocus attention on reform in his weekly Friday sermon.
He admonished authorities for “procrastinating” on reform promises and parties for being “very late” in naming a successor to premier Abdel Abdel Mahdi, who has acted as caretaker since resigning in December.
– Sadr hedges bets –
Sadr, 46, battled US forces with his Mehdi Army militia after the 2003 US-led invasion but is now a fickle politician, notorious for switching alliances quickly.
He backed anti-regime protests early on, but also controls parliament’s largest bloc and top ministerial posts.
His spokesman Saleh al-Obeidy hinted that while others blamed either Washington or Tehran for Iraq’s instability, Sadr would choose a middle path.
“We believe that both are behind this ruin, and Sadr is trying to balance between the two,” he said.
Carnegie Middle East Center expert Harith Hasan said Sadr sought to sustain his “multiple identities”.
“On the one hand, (he seeks to) position himself as the leader of a reform movement, as a populist, as anti-establishment,” Hasan told AFP.
“On the other hand, he also wants to sustain his image as the leader of the resistance to the ‘American occupation’,” partly to win favour with Iran.
Playing both sides could empower Sadr as divided parties negotiate over the next premier, but the intra-Shiite alliance on display Friday was not likely to last, Hasan added.
“Once this protest is over, this honeymoon between Sadr and the other pro-Iran factions will eventually vanish,” he said.

DAILY MAIL – French schoolgirl, 16, is told by police to go into hiding after she receives death threats for insulting Islam on social media
Mila, from Lyon, told online followers Islamic holy text was full of hate
She said it was in response to homophobic abuse from religious fanatics
Her comments on Instagram have led to a torrent of abuse and death threat
A 16-year-old French high school student has been told to go into hiding after receiving several death threats for insulting Islam on social media.
Mila, from Lyon, in eastern France, shared a series of short Instagram videos in response to what she said was online homophobic and racist abuse from religious fanatics.
The teenager, who regularly posts videos of herself singing on her Instagram profile, told those who were abusing her that she hated religion, there was nothing but hate in the Islamic holy book and that Islam itself was sh*t.
She subsequently received a torrent of abuse, alongside a number of serious death threats, that has led to her requiring a police escort.
The high-school student is also reportedly no longer able to set foot inside her school in the city in the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region and fears the incident will put an end to her dreams of a singing career.
‘I can no longer set foot in my high school, and I can’t even change my high school because it’s the whole of France that wants me dead,’ she told feminist publication Bellica.
The threats came about after Mila, who loves singing and whose profile is adorned with an LGBT flag, was talking with her followers on Instagram and one of them reportedly began harassing her.
After rebuffing the follower’s advances, he reportedly began insulting her with homophobic attacks and accusations of racism.
Then the attacks took a religious tone, with some users reportedly accusing Mila of insulting ‘our God Allah, the one and only’ and hoping that she would ‘burn in hell.’
It is then that Mila decided to post footage criticising religion in general and Islam.
‘I hate religion, […] there is nothing but hate in the Koran, Islam is sh*t, that’s what I think,’ she said in the videos.
‘I am not racist, not at all. You cannot be racist towards a religion. I said what I thought, you will not make me regret it. There are still people who will get excited, I clearly don’t give a damn, I say what I want, what I think.’
French media point out that under French law, Mila has done nothing illegal, there being no restrictions on ‘blasphemy’ in France.
Mila told feminist site Bellica: ‘I have not insulted anyone, nor threatened anyone, nor called for violence against anyone. What I did was blasphemy, general criticism of religions, and nothing else.’
Mila’s initial comments made on January 19 were shared in Instagram stories, that disappear after 24 hours.
However, they were recorded and reposted on various social media platforms by tens of thousands of users.
People commenting online are split between those who have defended her right to free speech, and those who have slammed the French schoolgirl, with some going so far as to issue threats to her life.
According to French newspaper Liberation, the head of Mila’s high school has flagged the incident to the prosecutor’s office.
Local media report that the local education authority has said that ‘the young girl is in security’, and that she has been provided with ‘physical and psychological support.’

EXCLUSIVE: FBI Must “Sequester All” Information Related to Fraudulent Carter Page FISA Warrant Indicating Related Indictments May Be Voided
It’s about time. The FISA Court’s communication yesterday indicates that the Deep State’s Carter Page FISA warrants were illegal and the related indictments may be voided.
