Fire in catholic church St. Johannes Bosco in Essen, Germany
In the church St. Johannes Bosco in Essen district Bochold there was a fire today Thursday morning. Parts of the nativity scene, which is built up in the chancel, have been damaged by the fire. A volunteer worker who was preparing the church for the service planned for 8.45 a.m. noticed the fire and, with the assistance of another worker, extinguished the fire that had broken out in the rear area of the crib. A fire extinguisher and a watering can were used. The alarmed fire brigade removed the burnt remains to the outside and used a ventilator to expel the fire smoke from the church. The service had to be cancelled because the smell of burning was still noticeable after the ventilation. By opening all existing doors and windows, the remaining smoke is to be drawn off. “The China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project under Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), aims to enhance bilateral ties between the two countries through a planned network of roads and railways that would link Xinjiang province of China with Pakistan’s strategic Gwadar Port.
The Pakistani government told the country’s parliament on Thursday that 13 projects worth $11 billion have been completed under the $60 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
It also announced that another 13 CPEC-related projects worth $18 billion are under implementation, whereas projects amounting to $21 billion are in the pipeline.
Informing the parliament that the construction of the New Gwadar International Airport is being facilitated by a Chinese grant, Pakistan’s Parliamentary Secretary for Planning and Development Kanwal Shauzab said it would be the country’s largest airport.
In December, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi declared that the multi-billion dollar project led by China was Islamabad’s “top priority”.
Meanwhile, Pakistan appointed the former head of its military’s media wing, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), Lt. Gen (Retd.) Asim Saleem Bajwa, as the first chairman of the CPEC Authority in November. The panel is responsible for ensuring that the projects are completed on time.
The CPEC’s first phase primarily focuses on energy and roads, while the second phase would prioritise industrialisation, agriculture, and socio-economic development. China’s envoy to Islamabad Yao Jing announced in September 2019 the completion of key projects under phase one.
The multi-billion dollar project is part of China’s Belt and Road Initiative that seeks to establish commercial links between Asia, Europe, and Africa through large-scale infrastructure projects and is often defined as “a modern version of the silk road”.”

“A Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) Boeing 737-800 flying to Kiev crashed on 8 January mere minutes after taking off from Tehran International Airport killing all 167 passengers and nine crew members on board. While both black boxes have since been found, the exact cause of the tragedy remains unknown.
Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council Oleksiy Danilov has presented a list of possible versions for the crash of the Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) Boeing 737-800 in Iran. It has now been narrowed down to terror attack, missile strike, engine malfunction, or collision.
Alleged Air Defence Misfire
Danilov elaborated that one of the theories is based on “internet reports” about the remains of a missile allegedly launched from the Tor air defence system (NATO reporting name: SA-15 “Gauntlet”). Tor-M1 9K331 modifications of this system were produced in the last years of the USSR’s existence and were exported to Iran, among other states. Kiev is currently trying to negotiate with Tehran to visit the area where the missile’s remains were allegedly spotted to investigate these reports.
Engine Malfunction
At the moment, Ukraine isn’t ruling out engine malfunction as a possible cause for the crash. Reuters earlier reported, citing several anonymous sources, that western countries’ intelligence agencies do not believe the jet was shot down, but rather favour the version of a technical malfunction. A video allegedly portraying the jet falling from the sky showed that the plane, purportedly one of its engines, caught fire while in the air.
Mid-Air Collision
The secretary of the Ukrainian Security and Defence Council also noted that the passenger jet could have collided with either a drone or another flying object as it was departing from Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport.
Terrorist Attack
An explosion inside the plane as a result of a terrorist attack is also not being ruled out at the moment by Ukrainian authorities, but no additional information supporting this version has been published so far.
The exact cause of the tragedy, which claimed the lives of 176 people, including nine crew members, will be determined by an investigative committee, but for now Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called to refrain from speculating about the incident.
Ukraine, where the jet is registered and who lost 11 citizens in the crash, has already sent specialists to Tehran to assist in investigating the tragedy. Two of the jet’s black boxes have been found, but their contents still remain secret.”

Things just got even more complicated for Tehran as the deadly crash of UIA Flight 752 looks set to become the center of a new international diplomatic crisis.
That’s because, just as we suspected, the deadly crash of UIA Flight 752 over Tehran Tuesday night, which occurred just hours after the regime launched a barrage of missiles at American installations in Iraq, was apparently the result of a misfiring of Iran’s missile defense system.
Or at least that’s what Newsweek is reporting, citing senior US intelligence officials.
The Ukrainian flight that crashed just outside the Iranian capital of Tehran was struck by an anti-aircraft missile system, a Pentagon official, a senior U.S. intelligence official and an Iraqi intelligence official told Newsweek.
Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752, a Boeing 737–800 en route from Tehran Imam Khomeini International Airpot to Kyiv’s Boryspil International Airport, stopped transmitting data Tuesday just minutes after takeoff and not long after Iran launched missiles at military bases housing U.S. and allied forces in neighboring Iraq. The aircraft is believed to have been struck by a Russia-built Tor M-1 surface-to-air missile system, known to NATO as Gauntlet, the three officials told Newsweek.

Two Pentagon officials assess that the incident was accidental. Iran’s anti-aircraft were likely active following the country’s missile attack, which came in response to the U.S. killing last week of Revolutionary Guard Quds Force commander Major General Qassem Soleimani, sources said.
Earlier today, Tehran vehemently denied the “rumors” that the plane was shot down, claiming that the plane took a suspicious turn shortly after takeoff that Iranian officials seemed to suggest indicated some kind of mechanical error. Outcry over the attack has been muted, probably because, as we’ve pointed out before, Iran’s commercial airline industry has had several high-profile safety slip-ups over the years, as its aging planes sometimes struggle to stay airborne.

“According to the newspaper Expressen, the Syrian-born politician’s smuggling “fee” ranged from between roughly $2,000 and $3,000. The man also admitted that money was the main reason behind his scheme, the extent of which has yet to be determined.
Rashad Alasaad, who represented the ruling Social Democrat party in the town of Ljungby in Kronoberg County, has been arrested on suspicion of smuggling migrants.
On Wednesday, about ten policemen in plain clothes entered Alasaad’s home and arrested him, the newspaper Expressen reported.
“The person has been taken for questioning and was subsequently arrested. The suspicion is human trafficking”, police spokesman Ewa-Gun Westford said.
Earlier, Expressen revealed that Syrian-born Rashad Alasaad, who entered the local council following the 2018 elections, offered to smuggle people into Sweden in exchange for money.
During a meeting with an Expressen reporter in the Greek port city of Chania on the island of Crete, which was filmed with a hidden camera, he joked about having already smuggled large numbers of people into the country. After the disclosure, the border police launched a preliminary investigation into human trafficking.
When confronted with photo evidence, Alasaad admitted to a “price list” for smuggling that featured SEK 20,000 ($2,120) per child and SEK 30,000 ($3,180) per adult.
According to Expressen, Alasaad ran Facebook ads under a false name, offering to smuggle migrants from Greece to Sweden with the help of borrowed passports.
“Only those who are in Greece. Syrian passports with Swedish residence permits for sale. Only for those who look like passport holders”, he reportedly wrote on Facebook.
Rashad Alasaad said he made his own way to Sweden using the smugglers’ route from Istanbul at the end of 2013. By his own admission, he “helped” many fellow migrants find their way to Sweden without specifying how many.
“Yes, I’ve got my whole family out. I’ve got a lot of people out. It is not difficult at all”, Rashad Alasaad told Expressen.
“Let me tell you why I do it. To be honest with you, the main reason is money. I want money”, Alasaad concluded.
In the spring of 2018, when Alasaad entered the Social Democrats’ ballot, local chairman Magnus Carlsson described it as “a good mix of young people and people from other cultures”.
Following the revelation, he stepped down from office. Rashad Alasaad previously worked for several government agencies, including the Social Insurance Office, the Swedish Tax Agency, and the State Pension Fund.”

“A Coventry man has been jailed for two years and four months after being caught impersonating a number of other people to take driving theory tests for money.
Swallaxadin Abdul Bashir, 42, had been offering his services at a cost to pass he tests for learners across England.
Mr Bashir was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday for offences carried out at 12 different test centres across the country, which took place between October 2018 and August 2019.
Theory centre staff reported the incidents to the Driver and Vehicles Standards Agency’s fraud investigation team after having suspicions that he was impersonating genuine candidates.
In some cases, Mr Bashir had been turned away before being able to sit the test, while the DVSA rejected all pass results from the exams he was found to have carried out successfully under a false name.

The initial aggression took place at the Geradstetten railway station in the municipality of Remshalden, 11 miles outside of Stuttgart, and saw the 25-year-old Somali randomly attack another man at around 2 pm in the afternoon, newspaper Stuttgarter Nachrichten reports.
According to investigators, the victim not only defended himself but viciously fought back against the Somali man, possibly using a glass bottle, which led to the migrant receiving several lacerations to the face, one tooth knocked out, and injuries to his tongue.
Following the altercation, the migrant called the police and was taken to a local hospital to treat his injuries. While police say they have opened a case against the Somali for the initial attack, they also claimed to have started investigations into the victim for his actions, as well, to determine if the man overstepped acceptable self-defence laws.
Investigators say they are currently looking for witnesses and added that video recordings of the incident were also obtained and are being reviewed by officers.
Since the height of the migrant crisis in 2015, sales for self-defence items have dramatically increased across several European countries.
In Germany 599,940 basic weapons licenses, which allow holders to carry gas pistols, flare guns, and pepper spray, were issued in the first 10 months of 2018 compared to just 261,332 in 2014.
Other countries, such as Italy, have made attempts to liberalise self-defence laws and make it easier for citizens to obtain firearms.
Last year, after he joined the government as interior minister, populist leader Matteo Salvini pushed for self-defence laws that would allow Italian homeowners to confront intruders and defend themselves and their property with firearms if needed.
Sweden, which took in a large share of migrants in 2015, has also seen sales of pepper spray increase last year with retail chain Kjell & Company claiming to have seen a 90 per cent rise in sales over the summer of 2019.”

On Tuesday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told CBS News that his country would retaliate for the U.S. strike that killed the top Iranian general “in a proportionate manner … against legitimate targets.”
The threat already seemed toned down from the Islamic Republic’s original reaction to the death of Soleimani on Sunday when it flew the “red flag of doom” over the highest mosque in the country, warning that Donald Trump had “taken the U.S. ‘to the precipice of war’ with Iran” and that the punishment would be “extreme.”

“Sweden, a country with a population of just over ten million people, granted a total of 1.2 million residency permits in the last decade according to figures from the Swedish migration board.
In 2010, Sweden boasted a population of 9.4 million people and in the last decade, that number has grown by nearly a million people to 10.3 million by the end of 2019 according to data from Statistics Sweden.
Newly released data from the Swedish migration board shows that in 2019, the country handed out a total of 119,568 residency permits from January to December of 2019, with the majority connected to work visas and relatives of those with work visas, followed by family reunifications and asylum claims.
While the overall number of residency permits in 2019 is lower than in previous years, it allows the final statistics for the decade to be calculated and shows that between 2010 and 2020, the Swedish government granted 1.2 million residency permits.
According to news website Nyheter Idag, when the figures are broken down, the country saw a total of 365,000 permits granted for family reunification or chain migration, 300,000 for economic migrants and 295,000 permits granted to asylum seekers.
The statistics reinforce previously released data that showed Sweden to have the second-highest population growth in the European Union in 2016 and that the growth was largely driven by mass migration.
In October of last year, statistics Sweden revealed the extent of the effect of mass migration on Sweden’s demographics, claiming that as many as 20 per cent of the population was foreign-born or one in five Swedish residents.
While previously the most common country of origin for migrants was neighbouring Nordic nation Finland, in 2015 the migrant crisis greatly changed the trend with Syrians surpassing Finnish nationals and remaining the largest single group of migrants coming to Sweden since.
Iraqi migrants have also seen a surge in numbers in recent years, putting Finns in third place as of August of 2019.”

With the arrest of three suspected terrorists following an exchange of fire, police on Thursday claimed to have busted a Daesh-inspired module planning a terror strike in India’s national capital city.
According to law enforcement, the terrorists are part of a Tamil Nadu-based Daesh module involving preparation to carry out militant attacks in the country as part of a bid to establish Islamic rule.
The three were identified as Khaja Moideen (52), Syed Ali Navas (32), and Abdul Samad (28) and hail from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
On 9 January, specific inputs were received that the absconding terrorists had shifted to Delhi from Nepal and taken a room on rent, as well as had also procured arms and ammunition, said Pramod Singh Kushwaha, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Special Cell.

“Khaja Moideen along with Syed Ali Nawaz, Abdul Samad, Abdul Shameem, Thowfiq and Jaffar Ali decided to abscond from their respective places simultaneously. Initially, they divided themselves into two groups of three persons each. Khaja Moideena along with Syed Ali Nawaz and Abdul Samad went to Kathmandu, Nepal after illegally crossing the border with fake documents”, the officer said.
Police said that after setting up a base in Nepal as a hideout, the terrorists came to Delhi after crossing over from the porous Indo-Nepal border.
“In Delhi, hideout and weapons were arranged by their foreign based handler through one of his contacts in city”, the police officer said, adding that further questioning is on-going.

Iranian state TV has released footage purportedly showing preparations ahead of Tehran’s missile attack on al-Asad Airbase housing US forces in Iraq on Wednesday.

New York Bar Association Calls on Congress to Launch Investigation Into Attorney General Bill Barr
The New York City Bar Association is once again attacking US Attorney General Bill Barr.
The New York City Bar Association on Wednesday called on Congress to launch an investigation into Barr’s conduct, saying his public statements threaten “public confidence in the fair and impartial administration of justice.”
“These public statements by Mr. Barr also contravene the norms applicable to his office and warrant further investigation by Congress as part of an inquiry into Mr. Barr’s conduct as Attorney General more generally,” the left-wing group wrote in a 6-page letter addressed to Pelosi, McCarthy, McConnell and Schumer.
The group also criticized Barr’s October speech at Notre Dame University where he touted our founders for believing in God.
Barr said, “the founding generation … believed that the Judeo-Christian moral system corresponds to the true nature of man” and that “Judeo-Christian moral standards are the ultimate utilitarian rules for human conduct.”
Perhaps the New York City Bar Association prefers Sharia Law over the US Constitution which is the best document of freedom ever written and no doubt was inspired by biblical scripture.

Surveillance Video From Outside of Epstein’s Cell During ‘Suicide Attempt’ Destroyed Due to ‘Record-Keeping Error’: Prosecutors
Last month prosecutors told a judge that the ‘missing‘ surveillance footage outside of Epstein’s prison cell on the night of his suicide attempt in July had been found.
In a letter to a judge, US Attorney Geoffrey Berman said footage from Epstein’s suicide attempt in July has been located and the government is in the process of obtaining a copy.
Now prosecutors are saying the surveillance video has been destroyed due to a “record-keeping error.”
Even worse, the backup system for video surveillance wasn’t working due to ‘technical errors.’
“The requested video no longer exists on the backup system and has not since at least August 2019 as a result of technical errors,” the prosecutors wrote.
To be clear, the surveillance footage addressed by prosecutors pertains to Epstein’s first reported ‘suicide attempt’ in late July, not the night of his death in August.
