German Police Complain About ‘Shortage of Migrant Detention Centres’ in Country (sputniknews, Dec 25, 2019)

“In wake of the 2015 migration crisis that has caused tensions among the governing coalition ranks, German authorities have gone to great lengths in their efforts to tackle the issue, by setting up special detention facilities to effectively facilitate the deportation of rejected asylum seekers.
Federal Police Chief Dieter Romann argued that deportations of illegal immigrants couldn’t be properly executed due to the lack of pre-deportation facilities.
Speaking to Germany’s Funke Media Group, he lamented that the country, which retains the first spot in the number of asylum applications across the EU, “has far too few detention centres.”
He further specified that for the 248,000 foreigners requiring deportation, there are just 577 deportation centres to house them temporarily and then process their deportation. Local authorities have cited the shortage, as the reason why 119,000 would-be deportees, have ultimately been granted permission to stay.
From January to October 2019, authorities registered a total of 20,996 deportations – 1,000 fewer than in the same period last year, per Funke. The drop in the total number of deportations is related to fewer people illegally crossing into Germany of late: roughly 32,945 people in 2019 compared with 38,580 last year.
Deportations are essentially carried out by separate German states, but federal police accompany flights taking spurned asylum seekers to third countries. Earlier this month, German police officers reported feeling the strain from deportations as law enforcement departments had to boost the number of officers accompanying the afore-mentioned flights significantly. The total number of police escorts is reported to have doubled in just four years.
In 2015, Germany took in over one million refugees amid the European migration crisis, and as part of what Chancellor Angela Merkel called an “open-door policy.” Multiple reports have since attributed responsibility for murders (which resulted in the notorious unrest in Chemnitz ) and sexual assault to immigrants and asylum-seekers living in Germany. This has engendered public outcry over Merkel’s immigration policy and caused severe divisions in her coalition government.
In 2018, Berlin sought to avoid the migration crunch, with the German interior ministry establishing “transfer centres” and “anchor centres” to hold and process migrants who had made their way to the country illegally.”

A former prisoner at Her Majesty’s Prison at Woodhill, in Milton Keynes, has recounted how radical Muslims tried to get him to pledge allegiance to the Islamic State (ISIS) and to denounce Queen Elizabeth II as a “false monarch” and an “enemy of Islam”.
The ex-convict, referred to by the pseudonym “Jack”, said that he witnessed a makeshift Sharia style court in the prison in which two prisoners were found guilty of the “crime” of drinking alcohol, he told British newspaper of record The Times.
Jack and Brusthom Ziamani, a man convicted for plotting to behead a British soldier, inspired by the terror-killing of Fusilier Lee Rigby, proceded to beat the ‘guilty’ prisoners until “the smaller one couldn’t open his eye, it was swollen completely shut, so we made him tell the screws he had fallen down the stairs.”
He said that Ziamani, who described himself as the “chief of the Sharia police” inside the prison, was converted to radical Islam by the hate-preacher Anjem Choudary and that the group had access to recordings from deceased al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki stored on a USB stick.
“Ziamani would pass letters about bomb-making plans and all of these strange fantasies he had about himself fighting on the front line in Syria”, said Jack.
Jack said that another inmate imprisoned for murder had shown him a copy of the book ‘Milestones’ by Egyptian Islamic scholar Sayyid Qutb, which the inmate told Jack was banned inside the prison because it was “the inspiration for the 9/11 attacks.”
The issue of Islamic radicalisation in the UK’s prison system has come under increasing security after Usman Khan, a convicted terrorist who was released from prison, shortly afterwards killed two people and injured three others in a terrorist attack on the London Bridge last month.
Professor Ian Acheson, who headed up a review of jail extremism said that the reforms he suggested in his 2016 report have not properly been implemented.
“I’m disappointed that many of the recommendations I made in 2016 to robustly respond to this threat do not seem to have been adopted. This implies a continuing serious failure of leadership and will to confront terrorism that I identified”, Acheson told The Times.
“I urge the government to return to these recommendations as a starting point to check on the reality of counter-extremism capability. If the Prison Service is not equal to the task of managing this lethal and destructive risk it should be divested of that responsibility”, he concluded.
Richard Walton, the former head of Scotland Yard’s Counter Terrorism Command, pointed to Michael Gove being replaced as a pivotal moment in the reform process.
“[Mr Gove] was intent on fully implementing the Acheson review and addressing the problem of radicalisation in jails across the country. His successor [Liz Truss] did not treat this issue with the same urgency and appeared less keen on fully implementing the Acheson recommendations.
“The Ministry of Justice should now revisit the problem of prison radicalisation in light of the recent attack. A full, transparent review of prison radicalisation and the measures in place to address it is now needed”, he added.
The percentage of Muslims in the prison system has doubled since 2008, with 13,000 self-described Muslims incarcerated in England and Wales, comprising 16 per cent of the prison population.
The former inmate who spoke to The Times said that after leaving prison he received messages, offering him help to get to Syria, however, he said that he has chosen “to leave that life” and become a peaceful Muslim.”

“Thousands of Algerian students stormed the streets on Tuesday demanding a radical regime change.
They affirmed that demonstrations will not stop until their demands on having freedom and democratization are fulfilled.
Meanwhile, calls have been demanding a pause for the rallies after sudden death of the country’s army chief.
The Algerian street is also facing a great division on late Lieutenant General Ahmed Gaid Salah’s military path and relation with the civil rule.
Tuesday marked the 44th week of protests in which people from all ages participated and roamed the streets calling for a “democratic state,” “independent justice” and “free press.”
“A civilian state not a military state” the protesters chanted at the rally, a slogan that was strongly rejected by Salah.
They chanted “No dialogue,” rejecting the new president’s invitation for talks, and said they would continue protests that brought millions onto the streets early this year and tens of thousands in recent months.
Last week, the new president, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, was inaugurated following an election that the army had pushed for, but which the opposition had denounced as illegitimate so long as the old guard of rulers still held sway.
He immediately offered dialogue with the protesters, but although some urged the movement to accept his proposal, others denounced it and rejected Tebboune’s legitimacy as president.
According to journalists who followed the students’ march, their numbers were lower compared to the week before due to a division in the student organizations.
Salah’s death, at a key moment in the crisis after this month’s disputed presidential election, had prompted debate among many protesters over whether they should press on with their weekly march or postpone it.
Some considered it “shameful” to protest this week, while others said that the protests were “directed against a regime and not one of its symbols,” and therefore must carry on.”

Iqbal Khaibar, a PPM leader, said the activists were kidnapped in the Bala Buluk district of Farah Province while traveling from the neighboring province of Herat.
Dadullah Qani, a member of the Farah provincial council, confirmed the incident.

Germany: Eight Arabs attack Christian Christmas party and stab employees of the church community
In Aue-Bad Schlema a knife attack with two injured people occurred in a rectory on Christmas Eve. The Evangelical Lutheran parish of St. Nicolai had invited needy people to the rectory on December 24. No one should have to spend Christmas Eve alone. According to the Chemnitz police department, however, there were disputes with a 53-year-old man from Syria, who was subsequently expelled from the event and the parsonage. A short time later, eight Arabs turned up at the rectory. A new dispute flared up, which escalated into violence against a 34-year-old Iranian guest at the event. During the mediation of the disputes, a 51-year-old member of the church community was seriously injured with a knife in his stomach. He had to have surgery during the night, the head of the Chemnitz police department told a local radio reporter. The Iranian suffered minor injuries. The police are searching for the fugitive suspects.

Germany: Attackers on the run after church worker stabbed on Xmas Eve in Saxony
A community worker was stabbed and another person was left with minor injuries after a knife fight at St. Nicolas’ Church in the small town of Aue in Saxony on Tuesday evening.
Footage from early Wednesday shows emergency vehicles at the scene of the incident.
According to reports, an argument happened during a church service on Christmas Eve between two men. Later, around 22:20 local time (GMT) a group of several men, allegedly of Arab origin, appeared outside the church and a scuffle broke out.
The community worker who tried to get in the middle of the fight was stabbed in the abdomen and later underwent surgery in a local hospital. His life is reportedly not in danger, according to investigators.
The assailants have reportedly gone on the run and an investigation is underway.

Virginia Governor Northam Increases Corrections Budget In Anticipation Of Jailing Gun Owners
As if Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s wholesale attack on law-abiding gun owners wasn’t enough, the disgraced public official and his Michael Bloomberg-bought allies in the General Assembly now want the state’s hard-working taxpayers to foot the bill for their unconstitutional schemes. The budget bill (HB30) includes an appropriation of a quarter million dollars to carry out a host of gun control measures that Northam and his anti-gun allies hope to enact.
The $250,000 is appropriated to the Corrections Special Reserve Fund in order to provide for the “increase in the operating cost of adult correctional facilities resulting from the enactment” of Northam’s gun control measures. Among the enumerated laws that this allocation is meant to fund is a ban on commonly-owned semi-automatic firearms, the criminalization of private firearms transfers, and gun confiscation orders issued without due process.

China instructs Bible to be rewritten as pro-communist: report
The Chinese Communist Party instructed the Bible and other religious texts to be rewritten in an expressly pro-communist perspective that conforms with the party’s goals.
In November, a group of 16 different experts and religious representatives were called on to attend a meeting of the Chinese Committee for Ethnic and Religious Affairs of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference. Those religious leaders were then instructed to review their religious texts and reinterpret them to conform with the values of the country’s communist party doctrine, according to the Daily Mail.
Wang Yang, Chairman of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, reportedly told the gathered religious leaders they must interpret their religious views in their texts to meet the instructions of Communist Party Chairman Xi Jinping and fulfill “the requirements of the era.”

Japan’s Abe tells China no improvement in ties without stability in East China Sea
CHENGDU, China (Reuters) – Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Wednesday told Chinese Premier Li Keqiang that there would be no true improvement in bilateral relations without stability in the East China Sea, Japan’s foreign ministry said.
The two leaders held a bilateral meeting in the Chinese city of Chengdu, on the sidelines of a three-way summit with South Korea.

“The past year has seen at least two deadly incidents on train platforms in Germany. One of them occurred in July in Frankfurt, when a 40-year-old Eritrean man allegedly pushed an eight-year-old boy and his mother in front of an approaching high-speed train.
Christmas Eve was marred by a life-threatening incident at Nuremberg Central Station, where two men, a 32-year-old and a 33-year-old, got into a fight. The older of the two was pushed onto the tracks in front of an approaching train, Die Welt reports.
The man was trapped under a railcar and critically injured on Wednesday night, according to the police. Emergency services had to free him before taking the victim to hospital. The suspected attacker tried to escape, but was caught and arrested by law enforcement. He is set to be brought before a court during the Christmas holidays.
According to the outlet, both the victim and the alleged attacker are Iraqi nationals residing in Nuremberg. A homicide team has reportedly taken over the investigation. Forensic specialists were deployed at the scene. Details of the attack, including the cause of their dispute and information about the suspect, have not been reported yet.
As Die Welt points out, train and subway stations have become scenes of horrifying incidents more and more often. At the end of July, Germany was shaken by the death of an eight-year-old boy who was, along with his mother and another woman, pushed in front of an arriving high-speed train in Frankfurt. The suspect, a 40-year-old Eritrean man named Habte Araya who illegally arrived in Switzerland in 2006 but later lived there legally, was suffering from “psychological problems” and receiving treatment, the investigation found. As local police indicated, the suspected attacker’s home was searched, but no “evidence pointing to his radicalisation or any ideological motives” was found.
Another attack left a 34-year-old woman dead on 20 July in the Lower Rhine city of Voerde after a man, 28 years old, pushed her in front of an oncoming regional train.”
Chinese woman sues hospital for refusing to freeze her eggs
A woman in China is suing a hospital after doctors refused to freeze her eggs because she is unmarried, in line with a law on assisted reproduction.
Teresa Xu visited Beijing Obstetrics and Gynaecology Hospital last year with the aim of freezing her eggs while she focused on her career.
The freelance editor, 31, said hospital staff had urged her to have a child instead of freezing her eggs.
She said she had been told later she could not proceed with treatment.
“I came here for a professional service, but instead I got someone who was urging me to put aside my work and have a child first,” Ms Xu told Reuters news agency.
Chao Wei, a spokesman for the hospital, said the facility was complying with government regulations on assisted reproductive technologies, the New York Times reported.

Fugitive on CBSA ‘wanted’ list arrested in Montreal – again
MONTREAL — Mohamed Ratni, a fugitive on the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) wanted list, has been arrested, according to the agency.
“This arrest highlights CBSA’s commitment to protecting Canadians and keeping our communities safe,” said Annie Beauséjour, CBSA regional director general of Quebec.
This is the second time the 44-year-old has been apprehended. The failed refugee claimant, with apparent ties to an Algerian terrorist group , was first arrested in 2012.
He spent 19 months in detention before the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) set him free under strict conditions; Ratni then promptly vanished.
“The Algerian national had a Canada-wide warrant for arrest and removal after being ruled inadmissible to Canada for violating the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA),” the CBSA states.
Since the ‘Wanted by the CBSA’ list was added to the agency’s website in 2011, 70 people have been located across Canada and 65 of them have been deported.

Migrant Who Murdered Swedish Teacher Has Sentence Reduced (breitbart, Dec 25, 2019)

“A Swedish court has reduced the prison sentence for a 20-year-old Afghan who murdered his 69-year-old teacher, who he was also in a sexual relationship with at the time, because of the migrant’s mental health issues.
The Afghan, who came to Sweden in 2015, reported the murder himself when he called emergency services stating that he had strangled the woman on June 27th, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports.
According to news website Nyheter Idag, the man’s name is Ahmad Nazari and he is said to have been engaged in a sexual relationship with the woman around a year before the murder took place.
While he has denied intentionally trying to kill the 69-year-old, a Swedish court found Nazari guilty of murder stating that he had attacked her without warning when she had let him into her home and showed a measure of trust towards him.
After his conviction for murder, Nazari was sentenced to 11 years in prison to be followed by deportation.

A motorcycle bomb went off in the Amin area of southeastern Baghdad, injuring two people, the source said. Three more people were wounded when an explosive device detonated on the side of the road in the southwest of Baghdad, in Maalif district.
The third explosion occurred near a market in the Sha’ab neighborhood. Four civilians were injured, one of them is in critical condition, according to the source.
The fourth blast also came from a motorcycle, which was parked next to a small football stadium in the Madinat al-Sadr district in eastern Baghdad. Four people were injured.
According to the source, all the victims of the attacks are civilians.

Whether it is symptomatic of Trump Derangement Syndrome, some kind of New Age mysticism or perhaps spending four long years studying impractical liberal arts courses, it’s hard to say. But many people are looking to empower themselves with alternative techniques once ridiculed as sheer quackery.
“In the midst of this physical, political and emotional turmoil, astrology offers us a sense of purpose,” wrote Tanya Ghahremani. “It provides reasons for why the world is spinning as well as hope that it will be less nauseating tomorrow.”
I was always under the impression that the world is spinning due to the so-called cosmic ‘Big Bang’ theory, mixed up with a generous amount of gravitational pull and so on. But never mind. Ghahremani, discussing the feminist roots of astrology, postulates that the stargazing pseudoscience “empowers women… to take more control over their future; it encourages us to learn more about ourselves and go confidently in the direction that makes the most sense for our well-being.”
There is an unsettling, underlying theme, however, that weaves itself through the above-mentioned articles, and perhaps the reader has already noticed it. That theme involves the current political battle raging in the United States. For all of the breathless talk about witch covens, magical spells and incantations, this purported rise among Millennials in mysticism and spiritualism seems to be, partially at least, a cheap political statement against Donald Trump because the Liberals do not like the outcome of the 2016 presidential election.

Prosecutors in the Turkish capital Ankara issued arrest warrants for 36 soldiers, including 35 on active duty, as part of an investigation into FETO’s infiltration into the Gendarmerie General Command, the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office in the province said.
Eleven of them were arrested in operations carried out 22 provinces across Turkey, it added.
The operation was launched after suspects were found to have periodically and successively communicated with FETO members via pay phone.
Prosecutors also issued warrants for 22 suspects as part of a probe into the terror group’s infiltration into Air Forces Command after they were found to engage in a phone constant with FETO’s “covert imams” — senior operatives.
Sixteen of the suspects were arrested in operations launched in 12 provinces.
The office also said, Ankara prosecutors separately issued warrants for 19 suspects, including five on active duty, as part of an operation into FETO’s infiltration into the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK).
Ten of the suspects were arrested in simultaneous operations in five provinces. The suspects are also accused of communicating with FETO members via pay phone.
Fourteen other suspects were also arrested after prosecutors in Ankara issued warrant for 20 suspects, including former judges, as part of a probe into leaking questions of administrative jurisdiction exam in 2013, according to the prosecutor’s office.
The suspects were arrested in 11 provinces, it added.
Warrants were separately issued in 14 provinces for 26 suspects who were previously dismissed from public institutions as part of an Ankara-based investigation against FETO.

“More than 123,000 irregular migrants trying to get to Europe from northwestern Turkey were held since the beginning of 2019, according to data compiled by Anadolu Agency from security sources.
Throughout the country, Turkish security forces held a total of 441,532 irregular migrants, over one-fourth of them — 123,377 — in Edirne, which borders Greece and Bulgaria.
The figures continue a steady climb, as nearly 30,000 irregular migrants were held in Edirne in 2016, over 47,000 in 2017, and 74,000 in 2018.
Infantry forces work to stem irregular migration on the Greek and Bulgarian borders, while gendarmerie and police do the same in settled areas.
Some irregular migrants fell into the hands of human smugglers or lost their lives to traffic incidents, freezing to death, or drowning at sea.
One Afghani irregular migrant who fled to Greece and says he was mistreated by Greek forces praised Turkey’s hospitality.
“Greece treated us badly. We found a warm house atmosphere in Turkey,” said Kemal Azizi, adding that Turkey provided them with humanitarian aid.
According to local security forces in Edirne and media reports, in recent months Greece has been forcibly sending back irregular migrants to Turkey, in a move that violates the Geneva Convention, European Convention on Human Rights, and the UN Convention Against Torture.
Turkey has been a key transit point for irregular migrants aiming to cross to Europe to start new lives, especially those fleeing war and persecution.
The migrants were nationals of mostly Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh.
All of the migrants were either taken to hospitals for medical treatment or transferred to provincial migration offices.
In 2018, 268,000 irregular migrants were held in Turkey, according to the Interior Ministry.”

The Bandung Conference was the first large-scale Afro-Asian conference. It was a meeting of Asian and African states on April 18-24, 1955.

The arrest was carried out based on information provided by the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) to the BCIJ.
After searching the suspects’ houses, police seized foreign residence cards, falsified visas, a batch of passports, electronic devices, mobile phones, stamps, and three cars, said the BCIJ in a statement.
The police took the suspects into custody for further investigation to identify any other persons involved in the case or links between the criminal network in Morocco and other networks abroad, the statement added.
Uncovering and dismantling human trafficking networks is part of Morocco’s security operations against organized crime.
In its annual crime statistics, the DGSN said police arrested 505 organizers of undocumented migration who were part of 62 human trafficking networks.
