Reader’s Links for December 1, 2019

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • After giving up NYT, WaPo, Boston Globe, (WSJ now paywalled), I craved a daily. NYPost is decent, sometimes even fun.

  1. Massively important Red Chinese policy coming into effect Jan.1 is an opportunity for PT to counter tech company subversion.

The new law disallows encryption of any kind by foreign companies, and the sharing of all info with Chinese state-owned firms.

This should bring investment into Red China by every company worldwide to a screeching halt. Any company continuing to do business is subverting the interests of its home country.

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/15230/china-adopts-malicious-cybersecurity-rules

    • The CCP thinks that their restrictions on moving money/capital out of China has caysed the companies to build up so much in China they won’t move off and loose that money. This law is going to force a lot of nations to tell the companies to choose, move out if China or stop doing business in our countries.

China is doing this at the same time their ecnomy is going through a slowdown that some observers say is a recession verging on a depression. If they continue pushing like this the “Sanctions” and “Tariffs” will never be lifted and the Chinese economy will collapse like economy of the Soviet Union collapsed.

If you look at history you can get a real good glimpse of what the future holds. All of the history I have read says that the socialist economic model has a live span of between 70 and 80 years, less if you are using precious metal backed currencies instead of fiat currencies). Remember currencies have value only as long as the consumers have faith in the currency. When all currencies were precious metal backed people have faith in the currencies as long as they thought the rulers hadn’t looted the precious metal repositories. Now the people have faith in the currencies because they believe the governments are going to be able to make good on the promise that the currency is worth something.

Given the printing of money to allow the central banks to buy more national debt to infuse cash into the economy (Quantitative Easing) will work for a short time after that it touches off a round of inflation that requires interest rate correction which slows the economy to the point more QE is required. After a few rounds of this the Banks and Markets become addicted to QE and another weak point is added to the economy.

With the worlds Governments addicted to QE and high taxes we are watching the world develop a very shaky economy that requires lower taxes, lower debt, smaller government and fewer regulations to semi correct.

      • These cycles are punctuated by WARS.
When the macro slides far enough down to bludgeon the micro, nothing’s better than a Major War to tip the table completely. Then all bets are off, it’s all for naught.

It could be the Sampson Option for Iran, China might thin the excess male population in a So. China Sea adventure.

That 70-80 year timeframe fits with the Fourth Turning model. From a 2017 Slimes article [I won’t link], Steve Bannon sees a useful paradigm:

“The book, ‘The Fourth Turning,’ a 1997 work by two amateur historians, Neil Howe and William Strauss, lays out a theory that American history unfurls in predictable, 80-year cycles of prosperity and catastrophe. And it foresees catastrophe right around the corner.

“The book delineates history into four seasonal cycles, or “turnings”: growth, maturation, decay and destruction. It is the kind of wild, provocative idea that Mr. Bannon loves. But it is also just the kind of thinking that his opponents see as evidence that he is too Machiavellian and idiosyncratic for the job of President Trump’s chief strategist.

“The basis of his worldview – which has been described as everything from Leninist to alt-right, an extremist fringe movement associated with white nationalism – is still shrouded in mystery and conjecture. But by his own telling, much of the foundation for his political beliefs can be found in the book, which predicts that America is hurtling toward a crisis on par with the American Revolution, the Civil War and the Great Depression.”

    • Take a little time to think about what the mental problems of the European leaders must have that they are rushing to embrace Iran and China when both are openly murderous and in the case of China genocidal dictatorships.

    • Wishful thinking given a platform by the Kremlin.
How many articles today on de-dollarization, China’s BRI, the Eurasian Century? Collapsing NATO, EU, saintly Assange and Tulsi Gabbard.

  2. I find this article infuriating, but post to invite criticism.

-How was it advantageous to the free world to unleash a billion Chinese slave workers, thereby hollowing out the Western middle class, in the first place?

-How is it that American exceptionalism is not bonafide simply by virtue of the existance of the first and second amendents? Two rights existing nowhere else the same way. In fact, I find the symbolic juxtaposition of the two more significant by the day.

Where is Red Chinese “modus vivendi” while stealing intellectual property for the last 50 years?Bullshit.

“This week President Trump signed into law “The Human Rights and Democracy Bill”, which will impose sanctions on China over alleged repression in its Hong Kong territory. Beijing has reacted furiously to the legislation, condemning it as a violation of its sovereignty.

This is exactly the kind of baleful move that Kissinger warned against in order to avoid a further poisoning in bilateral relations already tense from the past 16 months of US-China trade war.”

  4. Germany: Man with axe and explosive belt dummy causes deployment of special action police commando+++
The following police report begs more questions as it answers them:

Yesterday afternoon, special police forces arrested a man who threatened several people in an industrial park on the A7 motorway in the Heidekreis district. The 29-year-old perpetrator from the Heidekreis had entered an arcade with an axe and a dog at around 10.55 a.m. and smashed the slot machines with his weapon. Three of the four persons in the premises managed to escape, one escaped into an adjoining room. The called police surrounded the object. During the access by a special task force (SEK) the perpetrator was overwhelmed and the dog was shot. There were no injured persons. The officers found objects with overhanging cables on the man’s body. Bomb squads called in by the police to deactivate the bomb classified the object as a dummy. The man known to the police was arrested and transferred to the psychiatric department of a hospital. According to the current state of the investigation, political or religious motivation can be ruled out. Several criminal proceedings have been initiated.

    • Hong Kong police fire tear gas as thousands take to the streets in fresh protests

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Police fired tear gas to disperse thousands of anti-government protesters in Hong Kong on Sunday, ending a rare lull in violence, as residents took to the streets chanting “revolution of our time” and “liberate Hong Kong”.

The protest in the busy shopping district of Tsim Sha Tsui followed a march by hundreds of people to the U.S. consulate to show “gratitude” for U.S. support for the demonstrations that have agitated the Chinese-ruled city for six months.

Shops and businesses in the area closed early as police sprayed volleys of tear gas at protesters, including some elderly residents and others with their pets, as they marched past the city’s Kowloon waterfront, home to luxury hotels and shopping malls.

Police made several arrests as the tear gas sent hundreds fleeing toward the harbor.

Hong Kong, a major financial hub, had enjoyed relative calm for the past week since local elections last Sunday delivered an overwhelming victory to pro-democracy candidates.

Activists pledged, however, to maintain the momentum of the anti-government movement. Protests in the former British colony since June have at times forced the closure of government offices, businesses, schools and even the international airport.

  6. ‘Surprise for the Enemy’: Iran Launches Mass Production of Jask Cruise Missiles (sputniknews, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/military/201912011077453099-surprise-for-the-enemy-iran-launches-mass-production-of-jask-cruise-missiles/

“Along with missile manufacturing, the country’s Navy has also disclosed five other military projects it is currently involved in, including the sea-launched Pelikan drone, the Sadaf-2 naval mine, the Soren positioning system, the Balaban guided bomb, and the Loqman training vessel.

The Iranian Navy has initiated the mass production of submarine-launched Jask cruise missiles, the chief of the naval warfare service Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said on Saturday.

According to Khanzadi the domestically-developed missile will be fitted onto all of Iran’s submarines, adding that the current range of the projectile will be significantly improved further on, allowing it to hit targets across long distances.

The Navy chief said that the rocket “will surely be a serious surprise for the enemy”.

Khanzadi noted that the missile had been developed as part of the “Jask-2 project”, while another project codenamed “Jask-3″ is also underway.

The official added that Iran will hold a joint naval military manoeuvre with Russia and China next month…”

  7. Decade Old Militant Hideout Busted in Kashmir (sputniknews, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201912011077448384-decade-old-militant-hideout-busted-in-kashmir/

“Jammu and Kashmir has been the scene of separatist violence for the last three decades, thousands of people – security forces, civilians, and secessionists have been killed – in attacks and encounters.

Security forces have busted a militant hideout in Kashmir’s Sopore and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition including two Ak-47 rifles, 2,000 rounds of ammunition, wireless sets, food items, and clothing.

A joint operation was conducted by the 32 Rashtriya Rifles, Special Operation Group Rafiabad, and 92 battalion of CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) in the Dalri Forest of Baramulla District.

Army sources said that the hideout could be at least 10 years old.

Despite a strict clampdown and patrols by troops and the state police, a large number of militants have managed to sneak into Jammu and Kashmir across the Line of Control – the de facto boundary dividing Indian-controlled Kashmir and Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

Security agencies have set up a counter-infiltration grid in the state and have eliminated several would-be infiltrators, foiling their attempts, yet many still remain active, Dilbag Singh, Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police, said in Ocotber.

“The number of active militants [in Jammu and Kashmir] is estimated at between 200 to 300″, Singh had said.

The union territories of Jammu and Kashmir have been under lockdown ever since the abrogation of Article 370, which gave the state special status under the Indian Constitution.”

  8. Almost 30,000 Asylum Seekers Have Returned to Germany After Leaving – Report (sputniknews, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201912011077448159-almost-30000-asylum-seekers-have-returned-to-germany-after-leaving–report/

“Germany receives hundreds of thousands asylum applications every year, with nearly two million people having entered the state upon since 2010, according to government data.

Thousands of asylum-seekers have returned to Germany multiple times after being deported, German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported citing government figures.

A total of 28,283 individuals that have come to Germany since 2012 on asylum applications but later left the country on a voluntarily basis or after being deported, have made at least one more attempt to remain in the country via asylum procedures, the outlet has learned from official data and federal government answers to an inquiry by AfD party chairman Martin Sichert. The majority of them, 22,050, applied for asylum in Germany a second time, while 4,916 made a third attempt.

In addition, the numbers show that for around 1,000 asylum seekers currently living in the country it was their fourth application, while for others, 294 in fact, it was their fifth or sixth time.

The outlet specifies that it remains unclear whether those who have arrived in Germany since 2012 and then left were deported or migrated voluntarily, fearing deportation, but notes that even those who have been deported and received entry bans were jailed for only a few months upon their return, with longer sentences being quite rare. This data reflects only migrants seeking asylum and does not represent deportations of those coming to Germany on work or family visas.

Hundreds of thousands of asylum applications are received by Germany every year. According to the German Office of Federal Statistics, 1.78 million people have entered the country seeking asylum in the last eight years. In 2019, 3,243 return asylum seekers submitted a new application.

During the European migration crisis Germany has accepted over a million refugees.

Many German politicians have criticised Angela Merkel’s migration policy that has welcomed Syrian and other Middle Eastern refugees temporally housed in other European states, including Hungary.”

  12. SKY NEWS London Bridge attacker ‘appeared to reject Islamic State’

The lawyer for Usman Khan tells Sky News his client appeared to have rejected the extremist ideology of Islamic State and al Qaeda on his release from prison.

Vajahat Sharif said the nature of the de-radicalisation programme his client received in jail – not the length of prison sentence – should be the focus of attention.

  13. SKY NEWS Boris Johnson accused of ‘misleading people’ about London Bridge terror attack

And he tells Sophy Ridge the chances of Jo Swinson becoming Prime Minister are not ‘looking as likely’ as he’d hoped.

  14. SKY NEWS Corbyn: Terrorists ‘should not necessarily’ serve full jail terms

The Labour leader told Sophy Ridge it was important to look at the progress convicted terrorists had made in being rehabilitated in prison before deciding on whether they should be released early.

He was speaking after it emerged that London Bridge attacker Usman Khan had been freed early.

  15. Expert on Islamic extremism says he warned Michael Gove terrorist prisoners like London Bridge attacker Usman Khan were being treated with ‘jaw-dropping naivety’ only for ministers to ignore him (dailymail, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7743755/Expert-Islamic-extremism-says-warned-Michael-Gove.html

“A former prison governor who wrote a major review on Islamic extremism in jails said he warned the government that inmates such as London Bridge terrorist Usman Khan were being treated with ‘jaw-dropping naivety’, only for many of his recommendations to be ignored.

Ian Acheson said he had warned then-justice secretary Michael Gove about ‘serious gaps’ in the management of terrorist prisoners.

But writing in The Sunday Times, Mr Acheson said there was little sign of ‘any tangible progress’ since his report was published in 2016.

The treatment of terror prisoners has come rushing back into the political agenda after Usman Khan, who was released from prison in 2018, killed two people and injured three others in a knife rampage on Friday.

Khan was one of nine jihadists jailed over a plot to blow up the London Stock Exchange in 2012.

After the Court of Appeal quashed the indefinite jail term he was originally given, Khan was handed a fixed-term sentence and released in 2018.

In his article, Mr Acheson raised questions over whether the risks should have been spotted while Khan was in prison.

Mr Acheson warned there were more than 200 inmates like Khan in the prison system today and said ‘the potential for harm is huge’.

In his report three years ago, he recommended the creation of units to ‘isolate’ and ‘incapacitate’ a small number of prisoners to stop them being able to radicalise others.

He now writes that the so-called separation centres are ‘not filling up’, suggesting a reluctance to use them because of ‘institutional timidity’.

Then-justice secretary Michael Gove said at the time of the review that he was ‘very sympathetic’ to its recommendations.

Mr Acheson acknowledged that 68 of 69 recommendations had been accepted, but said he could ‘only guess’ at whether they were ‘seriously given any thought’ in practice.

‘I remain deeply unconvinced that [the prison service] has the corporate leadership, competence or will to deal with terrorist offenders,’ he wrote, describing how many encounters with prison officials ‘resulted in jaw-dropping levels of naivety’.

‘I’m not sure any tangible progress has been made since my review concluded three years ago. We must ask searching questions about how a convicted terrorist under supervision was allowed to plunge our capital city into terror and grief,’ he said.

Khan and two other plotters had had originally been handed indeterminate sentences after they admitted terrorist offences in 2012.

However, in 2013 the Court of Appeal found that the original decision had ‘wrongly characterised’ the trio as more dangerous than the others.

‘Although we recognise that training terrorists in the use of firearms could only lead to potential loss of life… the fulfilment of that goal was further removed and there were other obstacles,’ Lord Justice Leveson wrote.

That meant Khan left prison in December 2018 after serving half his sentence, and committed the London Bridge atrocity only 12 months later.

The Parole Board said it had played no role in Khan’s early release.

The terrorist ‘appears to have been released automatically on license (as required by law), without ever being referred to the board,’ a statement said yesterday.”

  17. Sadiq Khan After Terror Attack: ‘Our Strength Is Our Diversity’ (breitbart Dec 1, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/12/01/sadiq-khan-after-terror-attack-our-strength-is-our-diversity/

“London mayor Sadiq Khan told reporters that diversity is one of the British capital’s strengths in the wake of the London Bridge attack, and that all great cities are targets for terrorists.

“Look, I’m mayor of the greatest city in the world, and one of our strengths is our diversity,” he told reporters shortly the attack by Usman Khan, a convicted radical Islamic terrorist who had been freed from prison on a tag after serving less than half of a 16-year term, which left two dead and three injured.

“But we do know there are people out there who hate out diversity, hate what we stand for, and are trying to seek to divide us”, he added — although his grounds for appearing to suggest that terrorists despise Britain for being diverse were unclear.

Mayor Khan then flirted with controversy with a statement echoing an earlier, infamous former claim of his with respect to terror attacks — i.e. that “part and parcel of living in a great global city is you’ve got to be prepared for these things” — by telling reporters: “Look, I know, speaking to colleagues around the world, mayors of other great cities, that we’re all targets for terrorists.”

Some critics of the Mayor of London have suggested that such attacks only appear to be a feature of life in cities such as London, while in a relatively homogenous place like the Japanese capital of Tokyo they are exceedingly rare — although not entirely unknown…”

  18. Six More EU Countries Join ‘Barter’ System to Evade U.S. Sanctions on Iran (breitbart, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/12/01/six-more-eu-countries-join-barter-system-evade-u-s-sanctions-iran/

“Paris, London and Berlin on Saturday welcomed six new European countries to the INSTEX barter mechanism, which is designed to circumvent US sanctions against trade with Iran by avoiding use of the dollar.

“As founding shareholders of the Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges (INSTEX), France, Germany and the United Kingdom warmly welcome the decision taken by the governments of Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Netherlands, Norway and Sweden, to join INSTEX as shareholders,” the three said in a joint statement.

The Paris-based INSTEX functions as a clearing house allowing Iran to continue to sell oil and import other products or services in exchange.

The system has not yet enabled any transactions.

Washington in 2018 unilaterally withdrew from the international agreement governing Iran’s nuclear programme and reinstated heavy sanctions against Tehran.

The accession of the six new members “further strengthens INSTEX and demonstrates European efforts to facilitate legitimate trade between Europe and Iran”, France, Germany, and Britain said.

It represents “a clear expression of our continuing commitment to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action” — the 2015 Iranian nuclear deal — the trio added.

They insisted Iran must return to full compliance with its commitments under the deal “without delay”.

“We remain fully committed to pursuing our efforts towards a diplomatic resolution within the framework of the JCPoA.”

The 2015 deal set out the terms under which Iran would restrict its nuclear programme to civilian use in exchange for the lifting of Western sanctions.

Since the U.S. pullout, Iran has taken four steps back from the accord.

The latest was on November 4th when its engineers began feeding uranium hexafluoride gas into mothballed enrichment centrifuges at the underground Fordow plant south of Tehran.”

    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/12/01/greeks-ask-nato-for-support-face-turkish-aggression/

“Greece´s prime minister says he will ask other NATO members at the alliance´s London summit to support Greece in the face of fellow member Turkey´s attempts to encroach on Greek sovereignty, notably last week´s agreement with Libya delimiting maritime borders in the Mediterranean.

Kyriakos Mitsotakis told the ruling conservative New Democracy party´s congress Sunday that the alliance cannot remain indifferent when one of its members blatantly violates international law and that a neutral approach is to the detriment of Greece, which has never sought to ratchet up tensions in the area.

Cyprus, Egypt, and Greece have all condemned the Libyan-Turkish accord as contrary to international law. The foreign ministers of Egypt and Greece, Sameh Shoukry and Nikos Dendias, were discussing the issue Sunday in Cairo.”

  20. Sweden Arrests Islamic State Returnee For Multiple Crimes (breitbart, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/12/01/sweden-arrests-islamic-state-returnee-for-multiple-crimes/

“Swedish authorities have arrested a 35-year-old Islamic State returnee for attempted destruction, possession of illegal weapons, and unlawful threats.

The 35-year-old was arrested by police in Gothenburg on Friday after investigators were alerted to serious illegal threats made by the man. They also were alerted to a potentially dangerous object but technicians later claimed the object to be harmless, Nyheter Idag reports.

According to the Swedish newspaper the Gothenburg Post, the man had joined his relatives in Syria who were members of the Islamic State terror group, along with his young child. He later returned to Sweden after his two relatives were killed in combat.

“We consider him an ISIS returnee. Säpo [Swedish security police] has had a good look at him,” a police officer told the paper.

In March of this year, it was claimed that at least one in three Islamic State returnees had committed serious crimes after returning to Sweden from the Middle East.

The various offences have included drug-related crimes, fraud, extortion, money laundering, abuse, and a 31-year-old charged with attempted murder for attacking another man with a pair of scissors last year in July.

Sweden had had problems deporting radical Islamic extremist migrants as well, including several imams and others who were set for deportation until a court overruled the government, police, and the migration board.

On Friday, the Swedish parliament debated potential ways to handle those deemed threats to national security who cannnot be deported, with Moderate Party legal spokesman Johan Forssell stating that such persons should be kept in custody longer but not be detained indefinitely.

Interior Minister Mikael Damberg, meanwhile, said there was currently no way to keep people deemed security risks detained if they had not committed a crime.

Instead, he noted that new legislation on participation in terror organisations could provide the means to imprison or expel those deemed to be a security risk.”

  21. Just Eight Per Cent of Swedes Think Leftist Govt Will Solve Gang Violence (breitbart, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/12/01/just-eight-per-cent-swedes-think-social-democrats-solve-gang-violence/

“A poll has shown that only eight per cent of Swedes think the ruling Social Democrats can solve the rising problem of gang violence in the next six months.

The results of the poll, which was conducted by Sifo, show that the vast majority of Swedes, some 88 per cent, say that the levels of violence will either remain unchanged or will increase in the coming months, Swedish newspaper Expressen reports.

Toivo Sjörén, head of opinion at Sifo, said the total lack of confidence was a serious issue for the government.

“Of course, those in the government must bear the greatest responsibility. But it can lead to a distrust in society when there is such low confidence in police and politicians,” he said.

“It is serious if the state cannot deliver what is part of the social contract,” he added.

The low confidence from Swedes comes after Swedish prime minister Stefan Löfven appeared in Gothenburg earlier this week and said that police would be enacting measures that would see positive changes within the next six months in regards to gang violence.

The Swedish prime minister claimed that there was no link between the rise of gang violence and the level of mass migration seen over the last several years, despite several Swedish media reports pointing to a high number of migration-related crimes in the country.

“The segregation is because there is too low employment and too high unemployment in these areas. But that would have been the same regardless of who had lived there. If you put people born in Sweden under the same conditions, you get the same result,” Mr Löfven claimed.

Gang violence has increased across the country in recent years, with 2019 seeing a considerable increase in explosions thought to be linked to gang crime.

Shootings have also remained at high levels, with a 15-year-old being fatally shot in the multicultural southern city of Malmö earlier this month.

A report released in September by Expressen claimed that the vast majority of shooting suspects in the city were from migrant backgrounds.”

  22. Record Number of Swedes Taking Antidepressant Medication (breitbart, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/12/01/record-number-of-swedes-taking-antidepressant-medication/

“More than one million Swedes are now taking medication for depression, while a study has found people in Stockholm feel insecure due to surging crime.

Around one in ten Swedes now take antidepressants, a number that has doubled over the last two decades, becoming one of the countries with the highest use of antidepressant drugs, Swedish broadcaster SVT reports.

Mikael Tiger, a psychiatrist and researcher, stated that there are several reasons for the rise, including cheaper medication and less stigma attached to those who take the drugs.

The most significant increase in demand for the drugs has been children aged 10 to 14, but it is individuals over 80 years old who have the highest usage of the medication.

Increasing levels of crime have also led to more and more residents in and around Stockholm becoming anxious over being alone in some public areas, according to a study by the County Administrative Board.

Over the last eight years, the number of people who feel unsafe in their own neighbourhood during the day has doubled from 11 to 20 per cent, with nearly half, 44 per cent, saying they did not feel safe alone at night.

The report claims that every third person has refrained from activities and stayed home due to fears over being a victim of crime, with women and young people expressing the highest levels of anxiety.

“Gang shootings, crime and more and more threats and violence against socially important functions create insecurity among people,” local Moderate party politician Irene Svenonius said.

“When so many people are insecure, it is tearing apart society,” Svenonius added.

The study echoes similar reports, including one released in January, that stated nearly half of the women in their twenties felt insecure, fearing they could become a victim of crime.”

  24. DC Comics deletes Batman poster after China claims it’s pro-Hong Kong

The future is young — unless China says otherwise.

DC Comics has removed a piece of artwork from social media that was meant to promote a new Batman comic after Chinese critics claimed the artwork showed support for pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

The image by artist Rafael Grampa shows a version of Batwoman holding a Molotov cocktail in front of pink lettering that says: “The future is young.”

DC briefly used the image on Twitter and Instagram to promote Dark Knight Returns: The Golden Child, a Batman story that follows his young successor, Carrie Kelley (now Batwoman). The comic was written by Frank Miller, whose original Dark Knight Returns comic reshaped Batman in the 1980s and inspired recent film versions of the character.

  26. Iran, China, and Russia will hold in the coming weeks their first-ever joint war drills, which leaders say are meant to send a “message to the world” about increased military cooperation between the rogue countries.

The commander of Iran’s navy, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, said Wednesday that the Islamic Republic will team up with Moscow and Beijing within the next month to hold the mass war drills.

“When we talk about joint wargames, we are talking about two or more countries with a high level of relations in various political, economic and social fields, which culminate in cooperation in the military sector, with wargames usually being the highest level of such cooperation,” Khanzadi was quoted as saying in remarks to Iran’s state-controlled press.

  27. Islamist Militants Hack to Death 12-Year-Old Christian Boy in Cameroon (breitbart, Dec 1, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/africa/2019/12/01/islamist-militants-hack-to-death-12-year-old-christian-boy-in-cameroon/

“Jihadists from the Boko Haram terror group hacked to death a 12-year-old boy with machetes for his refusal to become a “child soldier” of the group.

Although news of the slaughter has only just reached the west, the militants are believed to have abducted the Christian schoolboy in a raid on the northern Cameroon district of Tourou on or around November 19.

The boy and his mother reportedly escaped from their home as the militants began their raid on the village, going door to door looting homes of anything of value, including clothes and bedding. The jihadists eventually caught up with the boy, killing him after hearing of his unwillingness to join their army. Members of the jihadist group frequently abduct male children and oblige them to train as soldiers.

Boko Haram has been intensifying assaults on Christian villages in the far north of Cameroon in an effort to extend a west African Islamic caliphate from north-eastern Nigeria all the way to northern Cameroon.

In early November, Boko Haram militants killed retired Christian pastor David Mokoni along with a hearing-impaired Christian boy during an attack on a church in Moskota, in northern Cameroon. A few days earlier, Islamic militants split the skull of a 15-year-old Christian boy with an axe as he slept in Kotserehé village.

A member of the village’s vigilance committee said the attackers came to the village on October 31 “armed with machetes, axes, knives, and clubs, and cut out anyone they met on their way,” adding that “they were literally chopped up by their executioners.”

According to United Nations estimates, more than 170,000 Cameroonians, mostly Christians, have been driven from their homes by Boko Haram.”

A UN study shows the “U.S. has world’s highest rate of children in detention”.

That was under the Obama administration.

    Unacceptable Headline
Of course, such a headline is politically unacceptable.

Thus, the UN Withdrew the Study.

A Nov. 18 story headlined “U.S. has world’s highest rate of children in detention -U.N. study” is withdrawn.

The United Nations issued a statement on Nov. 19 saying the number was not current but was for the year 2015. No replacement story will be issued.

    Story Pulled in Multiple Places
Not only did the UN pull the story, Reuters and Agence France-Presse also killed the story.

Oops, can’t scandalize the wrong guy can we?

  30. Netherlands: Police arrest The Hague stabbing attack suspect

A 35-year old man was arrested in connection to Friday’s stabbing attack in The Hague, according to police spokesperson Marije Kuiper, who gave a statement in the Dutch city on Saturday.

“We arrested a 35-year old man in the city centre of The Hague. This man has no fixed place of residence and right now he is being transferred to a police station where he will be questioned,” said Kuiper.

“Yesterday we received of course a notion of the stabbing and since then we are doing a very extensively investigation of course, non-stop, and in the investigation we found clues that pointed in the direction of this suspect, so that is why we arrested him and we are now looking into his involvement with this incident,” she said.

“All three victims were minors – it was a 13-year old boy from The Hague, a 15-year old girl from Alphen aan den Rijn, and a 15-year old girl from Leiderdorp. They were treated of the injuries at the hospital and later in the evening yesterday they were released from the hospital,” said Kuiper, adding that the investigators are now seeking to determine the suspect’s involvement in the stabbing.

An unknown perpetrator went on a stabbing spree at a shopping stretch in The Hague, injuring several people in the process. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.
