Anti-Depressants Consumption in Sweden Reaches Record Highs, Report Claims (sputniknews, Nov 28, 2019)

“While the use of anti-depressant drugs in Sweden has doubled since the 2000s, the disturbing increase among children and teenagers is even higher.
About a million Swedes, more than ever before, take anti-depressants, national broadcaster SVT reported.
While anti-depressant use reached one-tenth of the country’s entire population, it has also doubled compared with the beginning of the 2000s. The increase is even higher among children and adolescents, as anti-depressants use among children aged 10-14 has tripled in merely ten years. Women take more anti-depressant medication than men. About 6 in 10 users are women. Yet another group that stands out in anti-depressants consumption is senior citizens.
Researcher and psychiatrist Mikael Tiger argued that one explanation for the elevated consumption is that the stigma over seeking help for depression has disappeared.
“Another reason is that patents on anti-depressants have expired, which made prescription drugs much cheaper”, Mikael Tiger said.
Ylva Ginsberg at the National Board of Health admitted that the incidence of stress and anxiety-related disorders may have increased, which may have made drug treatment more relevant.
Bo Runeson, a suicide researcher and professor of psychiatry at the Karolinska Institute, argued that both the number of suicides and the prescription of sedatives have decreased with the introduction of anti-depressants.
According to Mikael Tiger, the high prescription of anti-depressant medicine does not pose a risk to public health. Still, Sweden suffers from both over-prescription and under-prescription at the same time, he argued.
“The typical case of over-prescribing is people in elderly homes who receive it without clear indication. At the same time, we have under-prescription in that people who have depression do not seek help. I think it’s more common in men and maybe people in sparsely-populated areas,” Tiger suggested.
Depression and anxiety syndrome are the most common reasons for taking anti-depressant medication, but the drugs are also used to treat nerve pain and eating disorders.
Each year, anti-depressant drugs are sold in Sweden to the tune of SEK 720 million ($75 million), putting it among the top consumers of anti-depressant medication, alongside fellow Nordic nations Iceland and Denmark.
Side effects of anti-depressant medication may include dry mouth, headache, nausea, weight gain and impaired sexual function.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) sees depression as the world’s most common disability. Globally, more than 300 million people suffer from depression.”

“As of today, the Scandinavian country has 29 troubled areas, which are all characterised by a high share of immigrants and formally classed as ghettos.
Over 11,000 people will have to find a new place to live in the aftermath of the Danish government’s plan to eradicate ghettos, Danish Radio reported.
In addition, over 5,500 will have to be temporarily resettled due to reconstruction issues.
In a bold attempt to weed out social problems such as unemployment, crime and segregation, associated with a high percentage of immigrants, billions of kroner will be spent on demolishing public housing and reshaping entire areas.
Denmark has since 2010 maintained a special ghetto list, updated every 1 December. The current edition features 29 ghettos. Furthermore, residential areas that have been on the ghetto list for four consecutive years are classed as “hard ghettos”. For a hard ghetto, a re-housing and development plan must be prepared within six months. As of today, there are 15 hard ghettos in Denmark, including its largst, Vollsmose in the city of Odense.
In the run-up to the new ghetto list being published, housing companies face the huge task of having to relocate thousands of their residents, Bent Madsen, CEO of BL, Denmark’s Social Housing authority, said.
“11,000 is quite a few people, and it is a very big local task to make the re-housing work for the individual family. But we have a bound task. And now it is about making it as gentle as possible and with respect for the individual, so that people feel as secure as possible,” Madsen said, as quoted by Danish Radio.
Housing Minister Kaare Dybvad recognised that the plan intervened in people’s lives.
“It is clear that there are some who have to move from the blocks that are being torn down. And I understand that it can be intrusive”, Dyvblad said, as quoted by the Danish Radio.
While some, including the newspaper Altinget, went so far as to call it “the biggest social experiment of the century”, its results are far from guaranteed.
“We just don’t know if it works the way one hopes and expects. The ghetto plan is a great social experiment,” Marie Stender, senior researcher at the State Construction Research Institute, told Altinget.
The so-called “ghetto package”, which aims to abolish all of Denmark’s troubled suburbs and counter the growth of parallel immigrant societies was first presented in 2018. The idea is that by 2030 there will be no problematic immigrant ghettos left.
The “ghetto package” contains 22 measures. Among other things, crimes committed in the designated suburbs are now punished twice as severely as in the rest of the country.
Other measures include setting a limit on children from designated ghettos in a single preschool, and welfare recipients choosing to settle in “blacklisted” areas having their social benefits halved. Lastly, billions of kroner will be spent on demolishing housing areas and building new ones.”

“An anti-mass migration feminist group was forcibly removed from a protest against violence towards women, claiming it was because they denounced migrant sex attackers.
The group Collectif Némésis posted a video of members holding signs which referenced the rape gangs of Rotherham and claims that 52 per cent of the rapes in the Ille de France region, where Paris is located, were committed by foreigners. The video ended with the group being forcibly removed.
According to conservative French magazine Valeurs Actuelles, the group predicted they would not be welcome the night before the protest. They said: “We have no doubt that our mere presence would be interpreted as aggression by the organisers of this march because of our views on immigration.”
They went on to denounce the group Nous Toutes which organised the event, stating that they were “more concerned with the promotion of leftist laxity than with the real protection of women and their rights”. They added that many feminist groups only deal with “anecdotal themes” rather than real issues that affect women.
“Feminist websites and organisations did not say anything about the 2015 Cologne rapes and assaults and the mass rapes committed by Indo-Pakistanis across England for decades,” they added.
The movement bears some similarity to the 120-decibel (120Db) movement in Germany which appeared in February of last year and listed incidents in Germany where migrants had raped or killed young European women.
The group, which also engaged in a protest at the Berlinale film festival, was named after the decibel range of rape alarms that became popular following the mass sex attacks on New Year’s Eve in Cologne in 2015.
Sex attacks in the Paris region have increased on the public transport system according to a report from the Paris Police Prefecture earlier this year that said in 2018 the number had risen by 30 per cent.
A plainclothes police officer who worked on the Paris metro system claimed that the majority of sex attackers he arrested were from North African migrant backgrounds.”

“Baz Ahmed, the Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) officer for Labour in the port city of Plymouth, Devon, has been reported to police for what was alleged to be “clear voter fraud”.
Ahmed, of the Plymouth Sutton and Devonport Labour Party, had shared pictures of unsealed ballot papers marked for Labour candidate Luke Pollard, on Twitter.
“@PlymouthLabour volunteers working hard to reelect @LukePollard just received these, more votes for @UKLabour and @PlymouthLabour,” he boasted in one tweet showing two postal votes marked with crosses which the Guido Fawkes political blog described as “identical”.
“I have just received this, votes in the box for @UKLabour @LukePollard #PlymouthsuttonandDevonport,” Ahmed had bragged in another tweet, which showed a picture of a ballot paper ticked rather than crossed for Pollard — technically incorrect, but likely to be accepted as valid — complete with further correspondence doxing the voter’s personal details.
In response to Ahmed’s tweets, Guido Fawkes highlighted the following Electoral Commission rules, suggesting Ahmed had “committed multiple offences under [the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act]”:
“You should not touch or handle anyone else’s ballot paper.”
“It is absolutely clear that anyone acting on behalf of a party or campaign should not solicit the collection of any ballot paper.”
“If you are asked to take the completed ballot paper, you should ensure that the voter has sealed it first and then post it or take it to a polling station or office of the Returning Officer immediately, without interfering in any way with the package.”
“If you are with a voter when they complete their ballot paper, remember they should complete it in secret. Equally, you should ensure that the voter seals the envelopes personally and immediately.”
“I have long been concerned about the unpleasant practices of Plymouth Labour,” noted Tory veterans minister Johnny Mercer, who represented a neighbouring Plymouth constituency prior to Parliament’s dissolution for the general election.
“This election they are being totally exposed. This is clear voter fraud, and I will be informing the police.”
Luke Pollard, for his part, claimed he was unaware of Ahmed’s activities, and told Guido Fawkes that “If that was happening it would be illegal.”
However, Labour now claims that Ahmed was not sharing pictures of unsealed ballots which party activists had received, and was only sharing pictures which he had been sent by voters themselves.
The Electoral Commission, the elections regulator which has been accused of anti-Brexit, left-liberal bias on multiple occasions, appears to have accepted this excuse with no further investigation.
“Postal ballot papers are treated differently in electoral law, compared to polling station ballot papers,” the watchdog told PlymouthLive.
“A postal voter may take a picture of their own postal ballot paper and publicise it (including via social media).
“However, while the postal voter themselves may publicise the information, if someone else persuades or induces them to make this information available, they would be committing an offence,” they conceded.
“I’m an activist and it is my job to help encourage people to vote for Labour,” Ahmed insisted.”

“Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Agency (BKA) has claimed that recently-arrived migrants are forming their own criminal clan gangs and are pressuring existing Arab and Lebanese gang families.
Holger Münch, head of the BKA, said that migrants were involved in at least a third of the cases involving Arab-linked clan families but said that the Syrians and Iraqis had not yet formed formal criminal networks, Deutsche Welle reports.
The BKA head told broadcaster ARD that authorities should watch developments closely and not repeat prior mistakes that have led to the rising power of Lebanese migrant gangs in parts of the country.
In March, Islamic and migration researcher Ralph Ghadban blamed the ideology of multiculturalism for the rise of Arab clan gangs saying: “The attitude of political correctness, which suppresses free opinions, prevents a factual confrontation with topics, and leaves it to the radicals.”
The existing Arab clans, particularly in Berlin, have become more powerful over the years, with members going as far as intimidating police officers and using tactics including spreading rumours of sexual encounters with prostitutes against them to silence officers.
Frank Richter, the chief of police in Essen, also spoke to ARD and said that the newcomers, who had previously worked in menial jobs such as drug couriers, were now becoming more competitive and could take over the local drug trade.
Richter also highlighted that some of the newly-arrived migrants might have “combat experience” from the conflicts in the Middle East.
A 2017 report from police in the region of Schleswig-Holstein said that newly arrived migrants had already begun to take over the drug trade and linked several mass brawls involving asylum seekers to drug disputes.
Authorities have also become concerned with the infiltration of the police by Arab clans in recent years with Berlin politicians calling a special meeting in 2017 to address the issue.”

Police said Thursday the incident happened on Wednesday afternoon in the region of Gorski Kotar mountain, about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the border with Bosnia.
They say the migrant caused the weapon to fire while “actively resisting” police. No other details were immediately available and police say they are investigating all the circumstances of the incident.
Another migrant recently was shot and seriously wounded in an incident that Croatian police described as an accident.

A roadside bomb struck a civilian vehicle going to a wedding Wednesday evening, killing at least 15 people; six women, six girls and two infants, as well as the male driver, according to Nasrat Rahimi, an interior ministry spokesman. He said two other civilians were wounded in the blast in the northeastern Kunduz province.
Hours later, a gunfight and explosion at a security checkpoint killed at least one policeman, said Mohammad Nooragha Faizi, a police spokesman in the northern Sari Pul province.
He said militants in a vehicle carrying explosives were stopped at the checkpoint Thursday morning, then opened fire to cover their escape. Faizi said they apparently detonated the explosives remotely after getting away, although an investigation was ongoing.

“A Copenhagen court has found three men guilty of helping a terror organization by buying drones and components on behalf of the Islamic State group. The items were meant to be used in combat actions in Syria and Iraq.
The Copenhagen City Court said Thursday that the men, two of whom are Danish citizens, bought hobby planes, drones and thermal cameras as well as components, tools and accessories in Denmark between 2013 and 2017. The items were shipped to IS.
All were cleared of terror charges and face prison terms of up to six years. Sentencing is expected next month.

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea on Thursday fired two short-range projectiles, likely from a “super-large” multiple rocket launcher, South Korea’s military said, adding to tensions three days after the North said its troops conducted artillery drills near its disputed sea boundary with South Korea.
The recent North Korea activities could indicate it wants to show what would happen if Washington fails to meet a year-end deadline set by its leader, Kim Jong Un, for the U.S. to offer a new proposal in their stalemated nuclear talks.

N.Korea test fires rockets in Thanksgiving reminder of year-end deadline for U.S.
SEOUL, Nov 28 (Reuters) – Breaking a month-long lull in missile tests, North Korea fired two short range projectiles into the sea off its east coast on Thursday in what appeared to be the latest try out its new multiple rocket launchers, South Korea’s military said.
The test-firing came as the clock ticks down on the year-end deadline that Pyongyang had given the United Stated to show flexibility in their stalled denuclearisation talks.
It also coincided with the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday, and took place one day before the second anniversary of the North’s test of an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) capable of hitting the U.S. mainland.
South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said the North fired the two projectiles into the sea from launchers in the eastern coastal town of Yonpo at around 5 p.m. (0800 GMT).
The rockets travelled up to 380 km (236 miles) and reached an altitude of 97 km (60 miles), the JCS said.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said the launch was a threat to not only Japan but the region and beyond, though his defence ministry said the projectile did not enter Japanese airspace or its Exclusive Economic Zone.

Iran, Russia, China to Hold Joint Wargames in ‘Message to the World’
Iran, China, and Russia will hold in the coming weeks their first-ever joint war drills, which leaders say are meant to send a “message to the world” about increased military cooperation between the rogue countries.
The commander of Iran’s navy, Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi, said Wednesday that the Islamic Republic will team up with Moscow and Beijing within the next month to hold the mass war drills.
“When we talk about joint wargames, we are talking about two or more countries with a high level of relations in various political, economic and social fields, which culminate in cooperation in the military sector, with wargames usually being the highest level of such cooperation,” Khanzadi was quoted as saying in remarks to Iran’s state-controlled press.

UN says rebel attacks in eastern Congo kill Ebola responders

China uses torture and hate-speech charges against minority group

In northwestern China, as many as three million members of ethnic minority groups have been imprisoned in concentration camps. Over one million of the imprisoned people are Uighurs, the largest minority group in China’s Xinjiang province. Torture is widespread in the concentration camps, and thousands have died in them. Uighur cemeteries have been destroyed in a campaign some have called cultural genocide.

“A Gambian migrant, who had already been ordered to leave Italy twice, was arrested in Suzzara after attacking two police officers outside of a shopping centre.
The 28-year-old Gambian, who was intoxicated at the time, was at the shopping centre harassing customers and begging for money. He had been in an altercation with other African migrants earlier in the day over who could beg in the area, Il Giornale reports.
Once he secured the area for himself, the Gambian set about on customers before it was reported to police that he had been threatening shopping centre patrons.
Once the Carabinieri arrived on the scene, the Gambian refused to identify himself or give the officers any identification documents. After making several threats, the 28-year-old then physically attacked the officers before he was subdued.
Following his arrest, officers discovered that the Gambian had claimed asylum in Italy but had been ordered to leave the country twice and that authorities had never fulfilled the deportation orders.
Over the last year alone, migrant attacks on Italian law enforcement officials have become increasingly common.
In July, migrants armed with glass bottles attacked two officers in Genoa who were pursuing a drug dealer following a routine identification check.
In Turin, a 26-year-old Senegalese migrant who yelled “Allah hu Akbar!” wounded two officers with an iron bar, with one officer suffering head trauma and the other receiving injuries to his hand. The man had also been ordered to leave Italy twice before the incident occurred.
The most serious occurance of migrant violence towards Italian police took place in May in Mirandola, just north of the city of Bologna. The incident saw a North African set fire to a police station which led to the deaths of two people and injuries to a dozen others.”

“Scottish Labour has expressed its “deep regret” over selecting a woman who had allegedly made antisemitic social media posts in the past as its candidate to fight the seat of Falkirk in December’s snap general election.
The Labour Party said it took “immediate action” to remove “Community Development Practitioner” Safia Ali as their candidate in the election — but likely not fast enough to have her appear on the ballot paper alongside the logo, title, and election slogan of the Labour Party.
Postal ballots for the election have already been printed and posted in many constituencies, and it is possible some in the Falkirk area may have already cast their vote for Safia Ali before she was dropped by the party Thursday.
The exact nature of the Antisemitic social media posts has not been revealed, but the BBC quotes the remarks of Scottish Labour general-secretary Michael Sharpe, who said of Mr Ali: “I deeply regret the people of the Falkirk constituency will no longer have a Labour candidate to campaign and vote for on 12 December.
“There is no place for anti-Semitism, or any form of racism and bigotry, in our party. That is why Labour is taking robust action to root it out of our movement and wider society.”
The party excused itself for not having detected the posts earlier, saying they had been made on a defunct account.
While all Safia’s social media accounts have now been deactivated, social media posts by the Edinburgh & Lothians Regional Equality Council show Ali promoted as a guest speaker at their event An evening with Safia Ali, described as promoting “Diversity in public life”, with Ali herself described as a “Community Development Practitioner”.

As the Democrat-led impeachment inquiry into President Trump deepens, a spotlight has been cast on Hunter Biden ventures abroad not only in Ukraine but in China, where he set about investing while his dad served as vice president.
The questions come as Republicans are demanding that Hunter Biden – the 49-year-old son of Democratic presidential hopeful Joe Biden – appear before Congress to testify on his work.
For almost six years, the firm connected to Hunter Biden in China has moved more than $2.5 billion into various automotive, technology, energy, and mining endeavors.
Analysts point to the plethora of “ethical challenges” of Hunter doing such deals in China while his father was in the White House.
“At a time when the Obama administration was trying to pivot to Asia, a policy that ultimately fell flat, one has to at least stop and think what connections between policy and personal interests were there,” said Harry Kazianis, senior director for the Center for the National Interest. “While chances are Hunter Biden was doing what a lot of family members of famous politicians do – cash in on their name – it looks dirty.”

The campaign account belonging to Danielle Stella, the Republican hoping to unseat Ilhan Omar in 2020, has been permanently banned from Twitter for saying that the representative should be tried and hanged for treason if she passed sensitive information to Iran.
The 31-year-old candidate also posted the same sentiments on her Telegram channel and on Facebook.

Secretary Pompeo condemns Iran’s aggression towards protesters

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the U.S. will keep punishing Iran as long as it continues to use violence on protesters. During a press briefing at the State Department Tuesday, Pompeo said he and President Trump have been following the anti-government demonstrations in the Islamic Republic.
The U.S. secretary went on to say the people are taking to the streets as a result of the regime’s poor economic management, adding, the government is responding to their concerns with violence. Pompeo also revealed the U.S. asked demonstrators to send videos of the government’s abuses, so the U.S. can expose their violence.
This is what’s been happening in #Iran during the near-total internet shutdown. Security forces have shot and killed at least 106 people with complete impunity in nationwide protests. This is what they don’t want the rest of the world to see.

Angela Merkel delivers fiery speech condemning rise of hate speech
German Chancellor Angela Merkel was praised for having ‘integrity’ for her commitment to combat ‘extreme speech’.
Mrs Merkel spoke about offering opinions and people’s ability to challenge those opinions any time they like.
She said, though, that a line must be drawn once those opinions begin to infringe on other people’s freedoms.
The German leader said: ‘We have freedom of expression in our country.
‘For all those who claim they can no longer express their opinion, I say to them: If you express a pronounced opinion you must be able to live with the fact that you will be contradicted
‘Expressing an opinion does not come at zero cost. But freedom of expression has its limits.
‘Those limits begin where hatred is spread. They begin where the dignity of other people is violated.
‘This house must oppose extreme speech, otherwise our society will no longer be the free society it was.’
Supporters agreed with that position to ensure that nobody’s right’s are infringed upon.
One person in favour of the point added: ‘In the midst of a depressing UK election characterised by political and media deception, fakery & moral corruption come heartening external voices of democracy, integrity & leadership.’
A second person wrote: ‘Love this woman. Ten like her and the world would be a wonderful place.’
A third wrote: ‘This is a speech and a real politician.’
Not everyone who listened to her words agreed with the position, with many questioning who determines what constitutes hate or extreme speech.
One person said: ‘It’s really surprising how many people don’t actually understand the idea of freedom of speech.’
Another person said: ‘This sounds like extreme speech to me and should be banned.’
A third said: ‘Shorter version: Germany does not actually have freedom of speech.’

Tehran has summoned its Norwegian envoy to voice “strong protest” over the burning of a Koran at an anti-Muslim rally in Norway, joining Pakistan in condemning what it deemed an incitement of hatred and division.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry issued a statement on Monday warning the Koran-burning could have “dangerous consequences in spreading extremism and violence,” and insisted that the perpetrator faces punishment.
It is impossible to insult the beliefs and sanctities of over 1.5 billion Muslims in the world under the pretext of freedom of expression.
The Norwegian charge d’affaires, who currently serves in Tehran in lieu of an ambassador, said he would convey the message to Oslo, adding that his government roundly rejects the stunt, which took place at a political rally in the city of Kristiansand last week….

“Algeria’s upper house of parliament passed the country’s new energy law on Thursday aimed at reviving the key oil and gas sector by making it more attractive to investors.
Parliament also agreed the 2020 budget, which also contains reforms to open other sectors of the economy to majority foreign ownership as Algeria grapples with shrinking state revenue.
The two pieces of legislation are aimed at countering falling energy revenue and come at a time of political upheaval in Algeria, where mass protests have shaken the ruling elite.
Huge demonstrations since February dislodged veteran president Abdelaziz Bouteflika in April and an election is scheduled for December 12 to appoint a successor to interim president Abdelkader Bensalah.
The budget bill must be signed into law by the president, but it is not clear if Bensalah would wait until after the election. The energy law will come into effect once it is published in the Official Gazette.
State energy firm Sonatrach’s foreign partners have stayed away in recent years, complaining of bureaucracy and unattractive contract terms.
That has had a negative impact on output in the OPEC member and gas exporting country, causing a sharp fall in overall energy export revenue which accounts for 60% of the state budget and 94% of total export earnings.
The government has repeatedly warned that energy sales abroad would fall further in the coming years due to higher domestic consumption which has been raising by 7% annually.
The new law contains tax incentives and reduced administrative procedures, production sharing, participation and risk services as new types of contacts.
Protesters, who want to cancel the election until more in the ruling hierarchy have been pushed from power, oppose passage of any major legislation for now.
“This law will improve the attractiveness of our energy sector and boost exploration amid fierce competition on international markets,” said lawmaker Ali Djarbaa from the National Liberation Front party.
As a result of falling energy earnings, the 2020 budget includes a 9.2% reduction in public spending but a deficit of 7.2% of gross domestic product.
However, politically sensitive subsidies are untouched at 8.4% of GDP.”

“The US has sent investigators to Saudi Arabia and the UAE to probe claims that American-made weapons have been passed to militias related to Al-Qaeda in Yemen, CNN reported on Tuesday.
In a letter obtained by CNN, the US State Department said that the “continued insufficient responses” of Saudi Arabia and the UAE had hindered the probe which, the reporter said, was launched early this year.
CNN explained that American-made armoured vehicles known as MRAPs, which were sold to the UAE and Saudi Arabia, had been transferred to groups including Al-Qaeda linked fighters, Iranian-backed rebels and separatist militias.
According to the broadcaster, this was a violation of the sale agreements with Washington. It pointed out that the weapons in question were used against the internationally-backed government in Yemen.
In February, the State Department said that it had launched a joint investigation with the Pentagon into the unauthorised transfer of weapons in Yemen.”

“Turkey’s intelligence services have killed a prominent female operative of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) in an operation in the northern Iraqi town of Sinjar, Anadolu Agency has reported today. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organisation by the government in Ankara.
Beraat Af?in had been on Turkey’s list of “most-wanted” terrorists for a long time; she joined the PKK in 1997. The Turkish authorities had also announced a four million lira ($693,000) reward for her capture.
The killing of Af?in was part of Turkey’s Operation Claw, which it launched against the PKK in northern Iraq in May this year. A key aspect of the operation has been the use of armed drones to conduct targeted strikes against the group’s members.
This method utilises information gathered by Turkish intelligence agents. It was first proven to be effective when it hit the convoy of PKK commander Zaki Shingali, also in Sinjar, and killed him in August last year.”
