US affirms opposition to demographic change in northeast Syria
WASHINGTON DC (Kurdistan24) – Amb. James Jeffrey, US Special Representative for Syria Engagement and Special Envoy for the Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS, expressed Washington’s concern that Turkey might try to engineer a significant demographic change in northeast Syria and described the steps that Washington is taking to prevent that.
Last week, The New York Times reported on a lengthy memo, written by Amb. William Roebuck, Jeffrey’s deputy, detailing ethnic cleansing and war crimes conducted by Turkish-backed militias in northeast Syria. In light of that report, as well as Turkish statements about moving large numbers of Syrian refugees into the area, Kurdistan 24 asked Jeffrey if the US was doing anything to prevent a major demographic change.…
The day before, on Wednesday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had a series of meetings with US President Donald Trump, and the two leaders held a joint press conference at the end of the day.
Erdogan stated that he wanted to move a substantial number of the Syrian refugees now in Turkey to the “safe zone” that Turkey is carving out in Syria, along its border with Turkey.…

The statements made on Thursday—both in Jeffrey’s press conference, as well as the joint communique of the Defeat ISIS Coalition—represent the strongest public expression from the US, and 26 other countries, of their opposition to any Turkish plans to alter the demography of northeast Syria.
Of course, whether that will be enforced remains to be seen, but there is, at least, a clear, official statement, on the record, that the US and other major powers, including France, Germany, and the UK, as well as the European Union and NATO, all oppose such a move.

GOP lawmakers say Democrats’ evidence against President Trump is ‘crumbling’
GOP congressmen are coming to the president’s defense amid the ongoing impeachment inquiry. Representative Chris Stewart is saying evidence the Democrats are looking to find against President Trump is “crumbling.” During a Sunday interview, Stewart said there was no evidence building through ongoing impeachment hearings.
He pointed to Marie Yovanovitch’s testimony last week, where she told lawmakers she had no knowledge of criminal activity related to the Trump administration.
The representative accused Democrats of reaching for reasons to impeach President Trump. He added the longer the public hearings go on, the less Americans will support impeachment — because the evidence just doesn’t support it.
“I think the Democrats know they’re in trouble on this — which is why we keep moving the goal post,” stated Stewart. “We went from some supposed quid pro quo, and as you said, tying these investigations to withholding military aid — but we know that didn’t happen.”

The U.S. border and the return of an old national defense problem

Alongside the “Great War” that gave the United States last week’s Veterans Day commemoration – the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, when the guns of World War I fell silent – the simultaneous border war that gave us the modern National Guard is barely remembered.
But if World Wars I and II shaped and defined the 20th century, as they arguably did, the decade of skirmishes at America’s southern border with Mexico, from 1910 to 1920, seems more in line with the trends entrenching themselves in the 21st. That border war came about because of disruptive unrest in Mexico – unrest that spawned a revolution in 1910 against the regime of Porfirio Diaz – and ended up involving the United States because America was a lifeline to arms and cash for the warring factions that roamed Mexico with the demise of the dictator. The U.S. border and its access points fell into dispute time and time again because of their significance to the martial fortunes of those on the other side.
The 1910s were the decade of Francisco “Pancho” Villa, a guerrilla force commander and all-around thug-bandit in northern Mexico who began by supporting a would-be strongman, Francisco Madero, but continued operating on his own after Madero was assassinated in 1913. Villa wasn’t the only factional fighter operating in Mexico’s northern states (principally in Chihuahua and Sonora). But he was the one Americans were most aware of.

“PROTESTS have erupted across Iran, triggered by a sharp hike in petrol prices and the shut down of the internet, leaving dozens dead and cities ablaze as the uprising enters its third day.
The protests broke out over the weekend after authorities abruptly announced a hike in petrol prices at midnight on Friday. The move saw the rollout of a rationing scheme which sent prices soaring by at least 50 percent, in part triggered to offset the effects of crippling US sanctions on the country’s economy.
The plan was agreed by the Supreme Council of Economic Coordination, which is made up of President Hassan Rouhani, judiciary chief Ebrahim Raisi and Speaker of Parliament Ali Larijani.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei backed the move, saying it was based on expert opinion and should be supported.
The changes were said to be part of a scheme aimed at raising funds for Iran’s poorest, but many Iranians already struggling under rising inflation were quick to take to the streets in protests which soon turned violent.
According to reports from the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) on Monday, the uprisings are now in their third day and have spread to 107 cities.
Internet access in Iran has now been almost entirely cut off in attempts to conceal the “scope of the uprising and the scale of it brutality”, the NCRI reported.
Some 61 people have been reported dead in 10 cities, but the NCRI said it expects the actual number to be much higher.
Most of the 61 deaths were recorded when the protests broke out on November 16, but those who have been killed since have not been recorded.
Angry protestors in their thousands took to the streets, abandoning vehicles on motorways and blocking roads.
Buildings, including banks, petrol stations and stores were set alight as the protests took hold.
The Governor’s Office in Sharak Qods in suburbs of Tehran was attacked and set on fire.
“Scores” of police vehicles have been set on fire by protestors, the NCRI reported.
In Tehran’s Andimeshk township, protestors took advantage of darkness to attack the suppressive forces, forcing them to flee and blocking the streets.
According to the NCRI, Mr Khamenei ordered the Revolutionary Guards and other suppressive forces to open fire on the demonstrations in different cities.
Reports have come in of armed forced shooting indiscriminately at protestors in attempts to disperse crowds and gain access to streets.
All active duty members of the Revolutionary Guard have been recalled from annual leave and dispatched to protest scenes.
Maryam Rajavi, the President-elect of the NCRI, called the killings “a manifest case of crime against humanity”.
Mrs Rajavi offered “condolences to the families of the proud martyrs of the uprising, noting that such unjust shedding of blood only adds to the resolve of the Iranian people to continue their rightful resistance to overthrow the mullahs’ regime.”
Mr Khamenei labelled protesters taking violent action as “thugs” and accused counter-revolutionaries and foreign enemies of fuelling the unrest.
He ordered security forces to “implement their tasks”.
Mr Rouhani said families would start receiving financial assistance on Monday from the funds raised by the move, also warning that “anarchy and rioting” will not be tolerated.”

“Hundreds of leaked Iranian intelligence documents have revealed Tehran’s massive influence in Iraq, including paying Iraqi agents in the US to switch sides.
The unprecedented leak of 700 pages of the intelligence cables written mainly in 2014 and 2015 by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security shows how Iran ‘aggressively embedded’ itself in its neighbouring country.
The reports obtained by the New York Times and the Intercept show how Iran is trying to infiltrate every aspect of Iraq’s political, economic and religious life.
The secret source, who had declined to meet with a reporter in person, had said they wanted to ‘let the world know what Iran is doing in my country Iraq’.
Among the revelations was how Iran had recruited former CIA informants after the United States pulled out its troops in 2011, leaving the assets ‘jobless and destitute’ and ready to share their knowledge.
And in one meeting between military intelligence officers from both countries, the Iraqi side had reportedly signalled to Iran: ‘All of the Iraqi Army’s intelligence – consider it yours.
Iraq has had close but complex ties with its large eastern neighbour, whose sway among Iraqi political and military actors grew vastly after the US-led invasion of 2003.
The new reports served to confirm the sentiment of protesters across Baghdad and the Shiite-majority south who oppose the current government and its backers in Iran.
‘Iran is intervening in our country,’ one demonstrator told AFP. ‘But we, the people, are the decision makers.’
The demonstrator, a veiled Iraqi woman in her sixties, also greeted the fact that Iran had been hit by its own wave of protests since Friday, triggered by a sharp rise in petrol prices.
‘The spark that started in Iraq has reached Iran,’ she said.
The documents ‘offer a detailed portrait of just how aggressively Tehran has worked to embed itself into Iraqi affairs, and of the unique role of General (Qasem) Soleimani,’ wrote the outlets.
Soleimani, the head of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps’ elite Quds Force, is Tehran’s point man on Iraq and travels there frequently during times of political turmoil.
Amid Iraq’s largest and deadliest protests in decades, Soleimani has chaired meetings in Baghdad and Najaf in recent weeks to persuade political parties to close rank around Iraqi premier Adel Abdel Mahdi, sources have told AFP.
In one of the Iranian leaks, Abdel Mahdi is described as having had a ‘special relationship’ with Tehran when he was Iraq’s oil minister in 2014.
The prime minister’s office told AFP it had ‘no comment’ for the time being on the report.
The reports reveal how informants lurk at Baghdad airport, snapping pictures of American soldiers and keeping tabs on coalition military flights, sources are plied with gifts and Iraqi officials are offered bribes.
But other cables show serious ineptitude such as one which describes how Iranian spies broke into a German cultural institute in Iraq only to find they had the wrong codes and could not unlock the safes.
The reports also named former prime ministers Haider al-Abadi and Ibrahim al-Jafari as well as former speaker of parliament Salim al-Jabouri as politicians with close Iran links.
According to the NYT, Tehran was able to gain much more access following the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq in 2011, which it said left Iraqi assets of the Central Intelligence Agency ‘jobless and destitute’.
The US invasion in 2003 left a vacuum in Iraq which was filled by Iranian power.
They then turned to Iran, offering information on the CIA’s operations in Iraq in exchange for money, the report said.
In one incident, an Iraqi military intelligence officer had travelled from Baghdad to meet with an Iranian intelligence official in Iraq’s holy city of Karbala.
During the three-hour meeting, the Iraqi official said his boss, Lieutenant General Hatem al-Maksusi, had told him to pass on the message to Iran that ‘all of the Iraqi Army’s intelligence – consider it yours’.
Al-Maksusi had also offered to give Iran information about a covert system established by the US to eavesdrop on Iraqi phones, run by the premier’s office and military intelligence, the reports said.
Iran and Iraq fought a devastating war from 1980 to 1988 and were ferocious foes under dictator Saddam Hussein.
Many Iraqi dissidents under the Saddam regime sheltered in Iran but returned to political life in Baghdad following the brutal ruler’s ouster in 2003.
Iran has therefore enjoyed close ties with the new generation of Iraqi politicians and has helped train military actors including in the Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary network.
It is also a major trading partner, selling crucial electricity and natural gas to supplement Iraq’s gutted power sector as well as goods ranging from fruit to carpets and cars.
Iran has used wide-ranging intelligence operations to maintain that deep influence, the NYT and The Intercept reported.
Its major goals were to ‘keep Iraq from falling apart and prevent the emergence of an independent Kurdistan, among other strategic aims’.
The ‘greater focus,’ the NYT report said, was ‘on maintaining Iraq as a client state of Iran and making sure that political factions loyal to Tehran remain in power’.”

“Supply and demand of workers does have an impact on wage levels, the UK government has admitted, as a senior minister noted cheap foreign labour ‘depresses wages’ in the UK in apparent response by calls by the left-wing opposition to significantly grow immigration.
Last week, Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared himself a “pro-immigration politician,” but Johnson’s Foreign Secretary, Dominic Raab, admitted yesterday that while the UK should seek out high skilled labour, the number of low skilled workers flowing into the labour market from abroad has the impact of wage suppression.
“We want to be able to plug gaps in specific sectors, whether it’s in the NHS or whether it’s elsewhere. But what you don’t want to do is encourage over-reliance on cheap labour from abroad, which has a depressing effect on wages in this country”, Rabb told the BBC.
The admission is striking in that the Conservatives, who see themselves as the party of business, have long been reticent to admit the economic pitfalls associated with mass migration and the free movement of people.
Boris Johnson, known well for his strongly pro-illegal amnesty stance, has pledged to get the ‘numbers down’ on immigration after Brexit is delivered but has yet to commit to capping the number of immigrants per year, and has actually suggested that he would quadruple the amount of economic immigration to the British countryside.
The Tory leader has also dropped the Tory pledge to reduce immigration “from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands” which Conservatives promised ahead of the 2010, 2015, and 2017 general elections, yet never delivered on.
The far-left Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn defended the free movement of people, saying: “We all benefit from people moving to, living in and working in different societies.”
“I’m proud of the diversity of our society and our country, and I want that to be a basis of how we live”, he added.
The Labour Party is set to release its election manifesto on Thursday. The manifesto is expected to be far more radical on immigration than the 2017 Labour Party manifesto which said: “Freedom of movement will end when we leave the European Union,” and that: “Labour will develop and implement fair immigration rules.”
Shadow Home Secretary, Diane Abbot said this week that: ‘The Labour Party is committed to maintaining and extending Freedom of Movement rights.’
The negative impact that mass migration has on wages has long been demonstrated, with the Bank of England confirming as early as 2015 that immigration was depressing wages in the UK, a simple expression of supply and demand.
This knowledge, however, has not deterred past Labour or Conservative governments from pursuing mass migration policies in the United Kingdom.
The same negative impact on wages was also demonstrated in America in a study conducted in 2018 by the Center for Immigration Studies (CIS), which found that blue-collar workers in landscaping, meatpacking, construction, and fishing jobs had their wages artificially depressed by immigration.
Alternatively, the ease at which a reduction in immigration can result in wage growth was demonstrated earlier this year in a study which found that a drop in immigration from mainland Europe since the 2016 Brexit Referendum has coincided with around half of all employers offering higher wages to prospective employees.
The same trend has also held true in America under the leadership of President Donald Trump, with even the New York Times conceding that a reduction in immigration has resulted in higher wages for working Americans.
Yet increases in wages are not always appreciated by corporate bosses. Lord Stuart Rose, the chairman of the official Remain campaign during the Brexit referendum, admitted that ending the free movement of people would indeed raise wages, but added: “that’s not necessarily a good thing.””

“Media reports say a van carrying 52 migrants has smashed through border barriers between Morocco and Spain to enter the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.
Spanish private news agency Europa Press, citing Red Cross officials, said the van sped across the border before dawn Monday, breaking through at least one metal gate. The sub-Saharan migrants were later detained by police in the city.
Migrants gathered in Morocco normally try to scale the 6-meter (19.5 foot) wire fences that separate Ceuta from Morocco but rarely try to cross in vehicles.
Once in Ceuta, the migrants typically apply for asylum or wait for an opportunity to travel to mainland Spain.
Europa Press said four of the migrants were treated in a Ceuta hospital for minor injuries suffered in the crossing.”
Spain: Van with 52 migrants breaks border fence to enter Ceuta
A van carrying 52 migrants crossed the Ceuta border at dawn on Monday after breaking the gates of the border fence at high-speed.
The events occurred around 04:00 am local time (03:00 am GMT), when the vehicle crashed through the gates of the Tarajal border crossing.
The group of migrants on board consisted of 34 men, 16 women and two children, ages six and a mere five months old, both accompanied by their mothers.
After crossing the border, several of the migrants fled to the Almadraba neighborhood on foot. Four of the passengers, all of them of sub-Saharan origin, have been lightly injured and the rest have been transferred to the CETI (Centre for Temporary Stay of Immigrants) in the city.

“Indonesian police said Monday that they have arrested 43 suspected militants believed to have links to last week’s suicide attack at a busy police station in the country’s third-largest city.
National police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo said those arrested are suspected members of a local affiliate of the Islamic State group known as the Jama’ah Anshorut Daulah. He said police seized explosives, guns, knives, arrows and jihadi documents from the suspects.
The arrests were made in seven provinces and include the group’s leader, Prasetyo said at a news conference in the capital, Jakarta.
The Nov. 13 suicide bombing involving a lone attacker in Medan wounded six people.
Among the suspects arrested in the raids were 20 members of JAD who have attended military-style jihadi training in North Sumatra’s Mount Sibayak, Prasetyo said.
Police on Saturday killed two suspected militants in a shootout in North Sumatra province’s Hamparan Perak village. Police said they believe the two were the bombmakers in the Medan attack.
A day later, four suspects surrendered to authorities, Prasetyo said.
JAD has been implicated in numerous attacks in Indonesia over the past two years and was designated a terror organization by the U.S. in 2017.
An Indonesian court banned the network a year later and asked the government to strangle its funding and support.
In May last year, two families carried out suicide bombings at churches in Indonesia’s second-largest city, Surabaya, killing a dozen people. Police said the father was the head of a local JAD cell.
Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim-majority nation, has been battling militants since bombings on the resort island of Bali in 2002 killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists. Attacks aimed at foreigners have been largely replaced in recent years by smaller, less deadly strikes targeting the government, mainly police and anti-terrorism forces and local “infidels.””

Burkina Faso’s president earlier this month vowed to hunt down extremists after they killed at least 37 people in an attack on a convoy carrying employees of a Canadian mining company. It was called the deadliest attack since Islamic extremists became active in the country in 2015.”
Germany: Clashes and arrests as counter-protesters outnumber Pegida rally
A rally of the far-right Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident (Pegida) was met with a larger number of counter-protester in Duisburg on Sunday.
Clashes erupted as some counter-protesters were seen trying to break police lines. Footage also shows several people being apprehended by the police.
According to the numbers from the Duisburg police, the Pegida rally attracted 270 participants, while the counter-protesters’ were around 1,100.
Reports indicate that the police used pepper spray against some counter-protesters, and filed criminal charges against 22 participants.

“Pope Francis invited 1,500 mostly poor people to lunch this weekend to celebrate the World Day for the Poor and requested that all pork be removed from the menu so as not to give offense to Muslim guests.
This Sunday marked the third annual celebration of the World Day of the Poor, a Catholic commemoration established by Pope Francis in November 2016 to celebrate the end of the Jubilee Year of Mercy.
The World Day of the Poor should be “a day to help communities and each of the baptized to reflect on how poverty is at the very heart of the Gospel and that, as long as Lazarus lies at the door of our homes, there can be no justice or social peace,” Francis said on establishing the feast.
The pope held the Sunday banquet for 1,500 guests inside the Paul VI Hall in the Vatican, offering a meal that intentionally eschewed pork out of respect for any Muslims present, according to reports. Instead, chunks of chicken with mushroom cream were served along with potatoes.
The gesture echoed a similar move this past October by the archbishop of Bologna, Matteo Maria Zuppi, who commissioned a pork-free version of Bologna’s iconic tortellini pasta for the feast of the city’s patron, San Petronio, so that Muslims would feel welcome.
Archbishop Zuppi, now a cardinal, dubbed the modified pasta “welcome tortellini” but many locals decried the alteration as “culinary blasphemy.”
In his addresses Sunday for the World Day of the Poor, Pope Francis returned to some of his favorite topics, condemning indifference toward the poor and the “culture of waste,” while praising those who serve the poor, give hope to the disadvantaged, and promote solidarity.
“The poor are valuable in the eyes of God because they do not speak the language of the self: they do not support themselves on their own, by their own strength; they need someone to take them by the hand,” Francis said during his homily at Mass. “The poor remind us how we should live the Gospel: like beggars reaching out to God.”
“The presence of the poor makes us breathe the fresh air of the Gospel, where the poor in spirit are blessed,” he added. “Instead of feeling annoyed when they knock on our doors, let us welcome their cry for help as a summons to go out of ourselves, to welcome them with God’s own loving gaze.”

“A Pakistani migrant male has been jailed for ten years in the Netherlands for his plot to launch a terror attack against Dutch firebrand Geert Wilders in revenge for his organising a ‘draw Mohammad’ free speech event.
The ten-year sentence for the Pakistani male — identified in the trial only as ‘Junaid I.’ due to Dutch privacy laws — is significantly higher than the six years requested by the public prosecutor, the judges in the case noting a longer period of incarceration was required because of the seriousness of the crime.
The court had previously heard how Junaid had repeatedly said he wanted to kill Geert Wilders, whose Party for Freedom is the second largest in the Netherlands, that he beleived the death of Mr Wilders would be a good thing, and that the attention he was gaining from the trial was improving his public standing back home in Pakistan. For these reasons and because he believed Junaid still presented a terrorism risk, the judges in the case said a longer sentence was in order.
Junaid I. argued throughout the trial that he had not wanted to kill Mr Wilders, but rather had travelled to the Netherlands from Pakistan to protest against the lawmaker, reports Algemeen Dagblad. Despite the claims, the court had previously found the 27-year-old guilty of preparing a terror attack, and his intention to murder Mr Wilders.
The apparent flashpoint for Junaid was a draw Mohammed cartoon competition being organised by Mr Wilders in the Netherlands in 2018, which was cancelled for security reasons around the time of the arrest of the Pakistani migrant. The Pakistani government issued a statement celebrating the cancellation at the time, the nation’s senate having already passed a resolution to condemn the event.
Mr Wilders praised the court Monday afternoon after the judgement was read out.
Cartoons of Mohammed, who is considered to be a holy prophet in the Islamic faith and who it is blasphemous to depict in any form, have become a flashpoint between freedom of speech activists and those otherwise concerned by the broader Islamisation of Western society on one hand and religious fundamentalists on the other hand who have reacted with extreme violence to cartoons.
In 2015 11 cartoonists, writers, and editors at French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo were murdered at their place of work by Muslim gunmen in a revenge attack over the paper’s occasional publishing of satirical cartoons of Mohammed. Later the same year, a freedom of speech event in Copenhagen featuring an artist who had made cartoons of Mohammed was targeted in a shooting, the attacker going on to continue his rampage at the city’s Jewish museum.
Again in 2015, a free speech event in Garland, Texas featuring a draw Mohammed competition and attended by Geert Wilders was targeted by Muslim extremists who were killed by law enforcement.
Speaking to Breitbart London after the Garland attack, Wilders said of his determination to stick to his freedom of expression principles: “We should do exactly what it is terrorists want to stop us from doing – otherwise the message we send to terrorists is that violence and the threat of violence can be effective. And this cannot be the case… We should use the paper and pen to win over those who use guns.
“You should be able to depict Mohammad without a death sentence. We live in the West, not Saudi Arabia or Pakistan.”
Geert Wilders has lived under constant police guard and in a safe house for years because of the numerous death threats, actual plots, and attempts on his life arising from his critical stance on Islam, comments which have times landed him in hot water with the Dutch courts. In late 2016, Mr Wilders was found guilty of inciting discrimination and fined 5,000 euros for comments he made about Moroccan migrants — Mr Wilders for his part dismissed the trial as politically motivated, and the ruling seems to have done little to impact his position in Dutch politics.”

DUNCAN, Oklahoma – Breaking news this Monday morning after three people were shot and killed in a Walmart in Duncan, Oklahoma.
Police have already issued a statement saying that the shooting took place in the Walmart parking lot. “We can confirm a shooting in Walmart parking lot. One female and one male were deceased in (a) car and one male outside of the car. A handgun was found on scene.”

Meanwhile, witnesses have said they heard the shots ring out around 9:54 this morning.
An Army veteran and Duncan resident, Aaron Helton, was there when the shooting happened.
He said that he counted nine shots, and then saw the gunman with his gun his hand.
That’s when Helton reported another man walk up to the shooter and point a gun at his head.
The second man shouted at the gunman to stop. That’s when the gunman pointed his gun at his own head.

One man is facing a few charges, including possession of a dangerous weapon, after a stabbing at Ottawa’s IKEA.
Ottawa police officers responded to the incident outside of the business on Iris Street, on November 8, around 11:50 a.m.
Two men suffered serious, but not-life-threatening injuries in the stabbing.
Two other men were initially wanted by police, but officers now say they are only charging one.
Abdel Arab, 20, of Ottawa, was identified as the suspect. He turned himself in at the courthouse on Elgin Street, Monday.

Detectives investigating a number of robberies across London are today appealing for the public’s help in identifying the people in these CCTV images.
On 6th October, two men approached a 21-year-old victim on the London Overground at around 11.30am. They demanded his phone and Oyster card before punching him in the face and leaving the train at White Hart Lane.
On 26th October at around 6pm, a 25-year-old man was travelling on a south bound Victoria Line service from Finsbury Park to Highbury and Islington when a group of young men threatened to stab him before taking his phone, headphones, and watch.
On 29th October, a 20-year-old woman was sat on the tube at Lancaster Gate station when she had her phone snatched from her hands by a young man.

A suspected Isis military leader is on trial in a Hungarian court, accused of terrorism and crimes against humanity.
The 27-year-old Syrian, identified as F Hassan, was charged in September after an international investigation led to his capture in Budapest’s main airport at the end of last year.
Mr Hassan deserted from the Syrian army in 2011, then joined Isis sometime before 2014, prosecutor Andras Urbanyi told the court. He became commander of an Isis unit and actively recruited members, Mr Urbanyi said.
He allegedly participated in the murder of dozens of people near the city of Homs in 2015.

The Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons is now hemorrhaging evidence that the US and its allies deceived the world once again about yet another military intervention, which should be a front-page story all over the world.
Yet if you looked at American news media headlines you’d think the only thing that matters right now is indulging the childish fantasy that Donald Trump might somehow magically be removed from office via supermajority consensus in a majority-Republican Senate.
CounterPunch has published an actual bombshell of a report by journalist Jonathan Steele containing many revelations about the OPCW scandal which were previously unknown to the public. Steele is an award-winning reporter who worked as a senior foreign correspondent for The Guardian back before that outlet was purged of all critical thinkers on western imperialism; he first waded into the OPCW controversy last month with a statement made on the BBC revealing the existence of a second whistleblower on the organisation’s investigation into an alleged chemical weapons attack in Douma, Syria.
If you haven’t been following this story you can click here for a timeline of events to fully appreciate the significance of these new revelations about the Douma incident, but just to quickly recap, in April of last year reports surfaced that dozens of civilians had been killed in that city by chemical weapons used by the Syrian government under President Bashar al-Assad. This immediately drew skepticism from people who’ve been paying attention to the narrative manipulation campaign against Syria, since Assad had already won the battle for Douma and had no strategic reason to employ banned weapons there knowing that there would be a military strike in retaliation from western powers. True to form, a few days later the US, France and the UK launched airstrikes on the Syrian government.

The French government has shut down mosques, schools, and associations linked to the spread of Islamist ideology in fifteen neighbourhoods across the country.
French Secretary of State for the Interior Laurent Nuñez announced the closure of 130 drinking establishments, 12 places of worship, three schools, and nine associations linked to radical Islamism on Friday, Le Parisien reports.
“We fight against political Islamism that suggests that the law of God is superior to that of the Republic,” he told French media. He added that in his view political Islamism should not be conflated with the religion of Islam more generally.
While Nuñez noted that the closures occurred in fifteen different neighbourhoods, he did not identify which specific neighbourhoods were affected by the closures. The closures come as part of the National Plan for the Prevention of Radicalization (PNPR).

Kenyan government risks losing the lucrative Mombasa port to China should the country fail to repay huge loans advanced by Chinese lenders.
In November, African Stand reported on how Kenya is at high risk of Losing strategic assets over huge Chinese debt and just after a few month the Chinese are about to take action.
The loans have been granted for the development of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).
Also at stake is the Inland Container Depot in Nairobi, which receives and dispatches freight hauled on the new cargo trains from the seaport.
Implications of a takeover would be grave, including the thousands of port workers who would be forced to work under the Chinese lenders.
Management changes would immediately follow the port seizure since the Chinese would naturally want to secure their interests.
Further, revenues from the port would be directly sent to China for the servicing of an estimated Sh500 billion lent for the construction of the two sections of the SGR.
