Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Germany: Migrant runs over a woman with his car and then hacks her to pieces with a butcher’s hatchet on the open road (VIDEO)+++
A 34-year-old man is said to have hit his wife in Limburg on the open road only with a car and then killed. The police said witnesses reported in the morning that a man had hit a woman. According to police, the 31-year-old woman was walking on a sidewalk near the main train station. The 34-year-old should then have got out of his car and have hit with an object on the woman lying on the ground. She had died of her serious injuries at the scene of the accident. The man was arrested without resistance, according to police at the scene. The investigators go from the current state of a “relationship act,” as a spokesman said. At first the police did not give any details on the subject of the offense or on the nationality of the alleged perpetrator and the victim.According to the tabloid Bild, the man has a migration background.

  2. ‘International State Banditism’: Russian Defence Ministry Explains What US Really Does to Syrian Oil (sputniknews, Oct 26, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201910261077152862-international-state-banditism-russian-defence-ministry-explains-what-us-really-does-to-syrian-oil/

“Commenting on US Defence Secretary Mark T. Esper’s statement that a group of US troops will remain in eastern Syria, allegedly to prevent Daesh from accessing the oil fields, a Russian Defense Ministry spokesman said the statement should not be a surprise.

In a statement, the chief spokesman for the Russian Defence Ministry, Igor Konashenkov, noted that the US’ stated goal of protecting Syrian oil fields from Daesh* fighters could not be farther from the truth.

“What Washington does now – the capture and holding under its armed control of oil fields in Eastern Syria is, simply speaking, an international state banditism,” he said, adding that Syrian oil reserves and other mineral resources belong solely to the Syrian Arab Republic, not to Daesh terrorists or to “American protectors from Daesh terrorists”.

“Neither international law, nor the American legislation itself can justify the US troops’ goal to guard Syrian hydrocarbon reserves from Syria itself and its people,” the statement reads.

Citing intelligence obtained via Russian Defence Ministry surveillance satellites, both before and after the Daesh defeat north of the Euphrates, Syrian oil was being actively extracted and smuggled to other countries, while being guarded by US soldiers.

The oil was smuggled in tanker truck convoys, guarded both by US servicemen and the mercenaries of private military contractors (PMCs), the ministry spokesman said.

“Meanwhile, Washington imposed sanctions on shipping hydrocarbons to Syria, which spans not only US companies, but everyone else,” the statement says.

Despite that, oil extraction is being conducted using equipment provided by “leading Amercian corporations”, Konashenkov said.

In case of an attack on convoys, the US military immediately calls upon special operations forces and its air force for protection, he added.

According to the statement, oil extraction was conducted by a US-controlled company, created under the so-called “Autonomous Administration of East Syria”.

The smuggling revenue went through intermediary companies to US intelligence agency and PMC bank accounts, he said.

“Considering one barrel of Syrian oil costs $38, the monthly revenue of this ‘private enterprise’ of US intelligence agencies is more than $30 million,” the statement reads. “For such a constant flow of cash, free of state control and taxes, Pentagon and Langley management will be ready to guard Syrian oil wells from ‘hidden Daesh cells’ indefinitely.”

On 9 October, Turkey announced its ‘Operation Peace Spring’ which aims to drive Kurdish militias and remaining Daesh fighters away from the border. On 13 October, US Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper said the US will withdraw all of its force of 1,000 soldiers from northeastern Syria. On 25 October, Esper said the US would maintain a “reduced presence” in Syria, citing concerns about Daesh terrorists taking control of the oil fields. His words contradict the Trump administration, which announced earlier this year that Daesh had been 100 percent defeated.

”The United States will maintain a reduced presence in Syria to deny ISIS access to oil revenue as we reposition for the next phase of the Defeat-ISIS campaign,” Esper said.

  4. EU pays for MEPs’ plastic surgery and anti-ageing treatments in bonkers expenses policy (express, Oct 26, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1195915/EU-latest-European-Parliament-MEP-healthcare-insurance-scheme

“MEMBERS of the European Parliament can claim for plastic surgery, anti-ageing treatments and addiction rehabilitation as part of their gold-plated expenses package, Express can reveal.

The wealthy parliamentarians can claim for Breast reduction surgery, hair removal services and growth hormones as part of their taxpayer-funded health insurance scheme.

According to internal documents, seen by Express.co.uk, members of the European Parliament, past and present, are covered by the institution’s £4 million medical budget. MEPs can usually claim back up to two-thirds of a treatment, but in special circumstances they can recover the entire cost.

“In the event of a serious illness, a 100 percent reimbursement may be granted on request,” according to a dossier of their entitlements.

The healthcare package comes on top of their annual parliamentary earnings, which are upwards of £90,000.

Sources said the European Parliament’s doctors can authorise prescriptions for “medicines for erectile dysfunction” in certain circumstances.

Viagra is giving to MEPs with “erectile disorders caused by a prostate operation, accident or recognised serious illness”.

It emerged last year that they can even claim for surgery for “removal of a foreign body from the rectum”.

Routine trips to the dentist and GPs are covered as standard, with members able to claim back £650 without permission from the Parliament’s doctors.

UK taxpayers continue to pick up the bill for MEPs’ healthcare insurance package as well as their other generous financial perks.

Brexit Party MEP Alexandra Phillips said: “The fact that British taxpayers are paying for eurocrat beauty treatments tells you all you need to know about the bare-faced cheek of the EU when it comes to spending other people’s money.”

A European Parliament spokeswoman said members have no National Health Service of their own while working in Brussels, Strasbourg or Luxembourg.

She said: “The general rules of the EU scheme are similar to those found in national health systems. No two such systems are exactly the same, and there will always be some things covered in one scheme that are not covered by another.

“MEPs are entitled to a reimbursement of two-thirds of their medical expenses.

“Apart from the proportion of reimbursement, the detailed rules and procedures of this system are the same as that which covers EU civil servants.

“I’d like to insist that treatments are only available when there is a medical need, as certified by a doctor’s prescription.

“In specific cases prior authorisation is required by the scheme’s independent medical officer.”

The spokeswoman added that the healthcare scheme’s “independent medical official” is charged with authorising the costly treatments.”

  5. Oxford University Bans Clapping to Keep People from Being ‘Triggered’ (breitbart, Oct 26, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/26/oxford-university-bans-clapping-to-keep-people-from-being-triggered/

“Student union representatives at the University of Oxford passed a motion this week to ban clapping and replace it with silent “jazz hands” waving, insisting that applause “could trigger anxiety”.

The motion to “mandate the encouragement of silent clapping” proposed using the more “inclusive” British Sign Language symbol for clapping — known as “silent jazz hands” (waving both hands by the sides of the body at about shoulder height) — in place of audible applause.

The clapping ban would affect student union meetings and events where traditional clapping and cheering “presents an access issue” to those with anxiety disorders.

Officers at the student union contended that traditional applause, whooping, foot-stamping, and other loud noises presented an “access issue” for some disabled students who have “anxiety disorders, sensory sensitivity and those who use hearing aids.”

Sabbatical Officer Roisin McCallion says the change is specifically aimed at making events “more inclusive” and accessible to all.

“The policy was proposed in order to encourage the use of British Sign Language clapping during our democratic events, to make those events more accessible and inclusive for all, including people who suffer from anxiety. ‘Inclusivity is one of the Students’ Union’s founding principles,’” McCallion said.

One former student told the Daily Mail that despite Oxford’s good intentions and desire to be accommodating for students with accessibility issues, “this idea will not work and is completely ludicrous.”

The move away from clapping at Oxford follows a similar motion passed by the University of Manchester in September of last year…”

  6. Thousands of Girls Subjected to Female Genital Mutilation in Ireland, Experts Warn (breitbart, Oct 26, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/26/thousands-children-subjected-to-female-genital-mutilation-ireland/

“An estimated 6,000 women and girls in Ireland have had their genitals mutilated, and experts warn that another 3,000 girls are currently at risk of being subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM).

At a conference in Dublin, activists gathered to decry the practice of FGM and called for a national plan of action.

The Journal reports that Senator Ivana Bacik, who helped craft Ireland’s anti-FGM legislation, said that the practices should be treated as “a serious form of child abuse”.

FGM, sometimes referred to as “cutting”, is a cultural practice in which some or all of a pre-pubescent girl’s external genitalia is removed. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 200 million women and girls have undergone FGM worldwide and that every year three million girls are at risk of being cut.

The practice not only can cause long term physical and mental damage but can also, in some cases, lead to death. Last year a man from Somalia defended female genital mutilation, even after his daughter died during the procedure from loss of blood.

Instances of female genital mutilation have been recorded in 30 countries; the majority of cases take place in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

But the numbers of girls and women cut in Europe, Australia, and North America has started to rise, due in large part to growing migration from countries in which FGM is practised.

Earlier this year in the United Kingdom, a woman from Uganda became the first person to be convicted of FGM. She was sentenced to an 11 year term for allowing the cutting of her three-year-old daughter’s genitals, leaving the girl with permanent physical and likely psychological damage.

The practice has also been illegal in Ireland since 2012, but as of yet no one has been convicted.

One of the main issues in ridding the Ireland of FGM is that mothers are often pressured by relatives to return to their country of origin to have their daughter cut.

Salome Mbugua, Head of Operations and Strategy at Akidwa, told The Journal that: “What we are hearing now from women is that they believe [FGM] is a harmful practice and they wouldn’t want it to happen to their children, but there is still a lot of pressure.”

“They’re being pressurised from where they’re coming from, being told they shouldn’t wait long [to have FGM carried out on their daughter],” added Ms Mbugua.

Mothers told the conference that they feared to return to their home countries, out of worry that their daughters would be cut without their consent.

Senator Bacik has introduced legislation that would not only criminalise FGM in Ireland but criminalise parents who bring their daughter to their country of origin to be cut.”

  7. Iran cuts off man’s fingers for theft (BBC, Oct 25, 2019)
    https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-50179741

“Amnesty International has condemned Iranian authorities for cutting off the fingers of a man convicted of theft.

The rights group said the amputation, carried out at a prison in the northern province of Mazandaran, was “an abhorrent form of torture”.

Iranian officials said the man was found guilty of 28 cases of theft.

Iran’s Islamic penal code says theft “on the first occasion” is punishable by the amputation of four fingers of the right hand.

Iranian authorities have defended amputation as the best way to deter theft despite protests by international human rights organisations.

However, reports of such punishments are rare….”

  9. UN Flies ‘First’ EU-funded Planeloads of Somalis, Syrians to Germany, Romania (breitbart, Oct 26, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/10/26/un-flies-first-planeloads-of-somalis-syrians-germany-romania/

“The UN Migration Agency/International Organization for Migration (IOM) has hailed the arrival of its “first” planeload of 154 Somali migrants to Germany, along with dozens of Syrians transported to Romania using European Union funds.

The IOM, which promotes mass migration as “inevitable, desirable, [and] necessary”, announced the arrival of “its first international charter flight” of 154 Somalis from Ethiopia to Germany — with “An additional 220 refugees [to] depart for Germany on a second IOM-chartered flight in mid-November” — in an official press release.

“We are happy that refugees enjoyed this facilitated charter flight from departure to destination, with no hassles faced,” commented Milun Jovanovic, IOM Operations Officer in Ethiopia, in the press release, which went on to boast: “For the past 15 year , IOM Ethiopia has been involved in relocating refugees to more than 16 countries, including the USA, Canada, Australia, Norway and the European Union [sic] through resettlement, family reunification [chain migration] and humanitarian admission programmes.”

On October 24th, the UN agency boasted that it had also landed two flights of migrants in Germany’s relatively poor EU bedfellow of Romania, this time Syrians previously based in Amman, Jordan.

“The people who arrived today have been through the worst and now have a chance at rebuilding their lives in peace,” claimed Mircea Mocanu, Head of IOM’s office in Romania.

“Resettlement proves once again an amazing instrument for humane and safe travel,” he added.

“We are happy to be supporting the Romanian Government in its humanitarian response towards the situation in Jordan and Turkey,” he continued.

The resettlement programme is part of the European Union efforts to increase resettlement in solidarity with hosting countries” and “financed by the European Union through the National Programme – Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF)”, the IOM explains — lending credibility to the warnings of migration sceptics like Hungarian premier Viktor Orbán that the EU establishment is seeking to “solve” the issue of illegal mass migration not by putting an end to the mass movement of people into Western countries, but by regularising it through the establishment of “legal routes”.

The EU and UN “are serious about legalising illegal migration, contrary to the will of the people” said Prime Minister Orbán’s spokesman Dr Zoltán Kovács in late 2018, shortly after the EU backed the UN Global Compact for Migration.”

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A wildfire in California wine country that may have been caused by a high-voltage transmission line called into question Pacific Gas & Electric’s strategy of selectively cutting off power in windy weather to prevent blazes and could force it to resort to even bigger blackouts affecting millions as early as this weekend.

The repeated shut-offs and the prospect of longer and more widespread ones brought anger down on the utility from the governor and ordinary customers.

“We will hold them to account,” warned Gov. Gavin Newsom, who has repeatedly blasted PG&E — the nation’s largest utility — for what he calls years of mismanagement and underinvestment that have left its grid less resilient.

  12. Biggest demonstrations yet rock protest-stricken Chile

SANTIAGO, Oct 25 (Reuters) – As many as a million Chileans protested on Friday in the capital Santiago in the biggest demonstrations yet since violence broke out a week ago over entrenched inequality in the South American nation.

Demonstrators waving national flags, blowing whistles and horns, wafting incense and bearing placards urging political and social change streamed through the streets, walking for miles from around Santiago to converge on Plaza Italia.

The scenes were replicated in cities around the country.

Traffic already hobbled by truck and taxi drivers adding their own protest over road tolls ground to a standstill in Santiago as roads were closed and public transport shut down early ahead of marches that built throughout the afternoon.

Santiago governor Karla Rubilar said almost a million people marched in the capital – more than five percent of the country’s population.

“Today is a historic day,” Rubilar wrote on Twitter. “The Metropolitan Region is host to a peaceful march of almost one million people who represent a dream for a new Chile.”

  13. Hong Kong medics join protests against perceived police brutality

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hundreds of Hong Kong medical workers and other anti-government protesters rallied in the Chinese-ruled city’s financial center on Saturday, angry at perceived police brutality during more than four months of sometimes violent unrest.

Pro-democracy activists have attacked police with petrol bombs and rocks and shone lasers in their eyes. One officer was slashed in the neck with a knife.

Police have responded with tear gas, water cannon, rubber bullets and occasional live rounds, wounding several protesters, many of whom received treatment from volunteer first aiders at the roadside.

A 26-year-old nurse, who gave his name only as Stephen, said police would often come into the hospital where he works on the Kowloon peninsula and stand outside the wards or search for protesters in the accident and emergency department.

“Sometimes they bring their guns and weapons. The patients may be scared. This is not good practice,” he said. “The protesters have injuries. This searching must be done after they are healed.”

He said he worked as a first aider at protest sites in his spare time.

  14. The Italian Job: ‘Spygate’ probe goes criminal
    By J.E. Dyer October 25, 2019

Thursday evening brought news that the Durham “review” of the Justice Department/FBI handling of the “Russia-Trump” operation has become a criminal investigation.

Originally, the matter was called an administrative review. In being designated a criminal investigation, it will allow for such measures as convening grand juries and issuing subpoenas. It can lead to indictments, trials, and convictions.

This information comes the same week as the news that Durham wants to interview John Brennan and James Clapper, the top national intelligence officials involved in the “Russia-Trump” operation.

The report on the decision to “go criminal” also comes with an added detail from Fox’s Catherine Herridge. According to her reports, the catalyst for the decision to pursue this as a criminal investigation came from the visits of Attorney General William Barr and federal DA John Durham to Italy in August and September. It was information they obtained during meetings in Rome that tipped the scales on the potential for criminal indictments.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/10/25/the-italian-job-spygate-probe-goes-criminal/

Richard: The shift to a Criminal Investigation is good for the US and improves the chances that we will be able to save the Republic. The fact that the evidence gathered in Italy was what changed the investigation into a Criminal Investigation is good for Italy. It means that Salvini will get help in returning to power so he can start draining the Italian Swamp.

This attempt by the Deep State to take down a duly elected President of the United States is providing the evidence needed to take down the Deep State (drain the swamp) in many of the allied nations. According to the information that is currently available there was not only help from the Italian Swamp but also from the British and Australian Swamps.

I don’t know if we will be able to remove all of the swamp critters from the US Government or if the allied nations will be able to remove all of the swamp critters in their governments but we (the US and our allies) should (with a little luck) be able to take down enough of the Swamp Critters that all of the Western nations can regain their freedom. This struggle and the coming civil wars will also create a healthy climate of skepticism about the government making it hard for the Radical Left to once again enough power to think they can seize total power in free nations.

The struggle is far from over but it is starting to look like the tide is shifting in direction of more freedom and less government.

  15. FISA abuse report is ‘lengthy’ and has ‘few’ redactions, DOJ IG tells Congress

The Justice Department inspector general’s report on possible FBI abuse of the foreign surveillance process is “lengthy,” and is likely to be made public with “few” redactions, the inspector general told lawmakers Thursday, according to a letter obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Michael Horowitz, the inspector general, informed Republicans and Democrats on four congressional committees with a status update on the report, which will detail an investigation into whether the FBI complied with laws and policies in applications for Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrants against Trump campaign adviser Carter Page. (RELATED: The FISA Abuse Report Is Coming Out Soon. Here’s What To Know About It)

Republicans have anticipated the report for months, with many speculating that it will show that the FBI misled the FISA court by relying heavily on the unverified Steele dossier to spy on Page.

  16. Canadian Human Rights Commission appeals to fight Islamophobia

The Canadian Human Rights Commission has called on the new parliament to take fundamental steps against racism and Islamophobia in the country.

Mary Claude Landry, commission official, congratulated in a statement the Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on the victory of his party in the parliamentary elections, calling for confronting the growth of Islamophobia and racism.

“Elections have not resolved the dispute in the Canadian society, and many people in the country continue to feel marginalized. The unification of the country is an urgent need and I urge the new parliament to take practical steps to address racism and intolerance, which has become a daily phenomenon for millions of Canadians.”

Landry urged the Canadian Parliament to take measures to repeal laws that violate human and minority rights, strengthen the anti-racism mechanism, counter the increase in crimes resulting from religious and racial hatred, and condemn hatred of Islam and all forms of xenophobia and hostility to migrants and refugees.

Canadian parliamentary elections were held on October 21, and Muslims were active during this election cycle as many Muslim candidates made their way to parliament.

Ezra Levant of TheRebel.media reports: Canada’s internet censorship law, Section 13, may be gone, but our Human Rights Commissions are still in the grievance business.

Yesterday the CHRC’s unelected chief commissioner Marie-Claude Landry sent out a press release, telling the new Trudeau government to “repair the erosion of human rights in Canada.”

But they aren’t eroding — unless you count all the ways these “human rights” tribunals abuse everyone else’s.

In this press release, this civil servant issues demands the repeal of laws she doesn’t like, especially ones she thinks discriminate against Muslims, even though she doesn’t even have the courage to write the word “Islam.”

It’s her job to carry out the laws of the land — not campaign against the ones she doesn’t like! Empress Landry obviously can’t be trusted to execute the will of Parliament in a neutral and objective manner. How would you feel if you had a case before these tribunals?

I’ve known since 2006 that the human rights commissions were illiberal and un-Canadian, when I was charged for showing the Danish cartoons of Mohammed.

I don’t blame a leftist hack for being a leftist hack. I blame Stephen Harper’s late Conservatives for not cleaning out these stables when they had the chance. Now Trudeau will put them to brutal use, either with Landry, or his own hand-picked patronage appointee.

  19. Europe’s Populist Wave Reaches Portugal

    by Soeren Kern
    October 26, 2019 at 5:00 am

A Portuguese populist party called Chega! — Enough! — has secured a seat in Parliament, after winning more than 65,000 votes in legislative elections held on October 6. It is the first time that an anti-establishment party has entered Parliament since Portugal became a democracy in 1974.

Chega leader André Ventura, a 36-year-old law professor and television sports personality, campaigned on a theme of law and order and opposition to both political correctness and the imposition of cultural Marxism. He rode a wave of discontent with traditional center-right parties, which in recent years have drifted to the left on domestic and foreign policy issues.

The Socialist Party won the election with 36.3% of the vote, far short of an outright majority. The center-right Social Democrats won 27.8%, the party’s worst result since 1983. Chega, which was founded in March 2019, won 2% of the vote in Lisbon and 1.3% of the vote nationwide.

Political observers agreed that Chega’s result was impressive for a party that is only seven months old, and that Ventura’s entry into Parliament would give Chega greater prominence and media visibility, in addition to financial support.
