“The New York Times previously claimed that the Russian Air Forces had bombed several hospitals in Syria back in May. The newspaper said that local journalists had filmed the bombing and proved the incident via a radio recording of a ground controller giving the coordinates of the facility to the pilots.
The Russian Ministry of Defence stated on Monday that the “bomb-destroyed” hospital in Syria mentioned in the NYT reports was actually a terrorist base in a cave, adding that 80 journalists saw it.
“They [the journalists] saw what is actually located in such caves, or rather in well-protected terrorist bunkers with their own eyes: huge stockpiles of weapons and ammunition, including those made in the West, prisons, niches for sheltering tanks, gas masks”, he said, noting that the report came after several media outlets published articles revealing details about these kinds of facilities in Idlib.
The Russian military representative pointed out that “the hospital for civilians” was located in an area far from settlements in an “isolated cave”, where medics couldn’t have upheld any standards for treating injured people.
According to Gen. Major Igor Konashenkov, the media fell for another disinformation stunt, propagated by the British intelligence services, masked as news from “activists”.
He also dismissed claims about “eavesdropped” dialogue between pilots and ground controllers, stressing that the military does not use open radio channels to transmit coordinates.
The official was addressing the NYT articles from 13 October, which claimed that “the Russian Air Force has repeatedly bombed hospitals in Syria in order to crush the last pockets of resistance to President Bashar al-Assad”.”

US President Donald Trump appears to have agreed to a Congressional plan to sanction Recep Tayyip Erdo?an and all of the Turkish president’s top ministers, a move that would infuriate Ankara and inflame US-Turkey relations.
Fears were also rising over an Islamic State (Isil) resurgence as it emerged that US forces had failed to secure dozens of the most hardened jihadist fighters and the first known British member of Isil escaped Kurdish custody.

The SDF said that under the agreement Kurdish and Syrian regime troops would join forces to drive back the Turkish invasion. However, it seems likely that Russia will broker a broader agreement to avoid a clash between Turkey and the Assad regime.

BEIRUT, LEBANON (7:00 A.M.) – Celebrations erupted in the Al-Hasakah province last night following the announcement of a new agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Syrian Arab Army (SAA).
The border city of Al-Qamishli was one of the first to experience these celebrations as people took to the streets to greet the Syrian Arab Army in several neighborhoods (video below):
The provincial capital of Al-Hasakah also witnessed celebrations, with many people taking to the streets to greet the Syrian Army soldiers deploying to these areas.

Pelosi tweets plan to ‘overturn’ Trump move in Syria
Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Monday that the House and Senate would craft a resolution to “overturn” President Trump’s decision to pull U.S. troops away from the Syrian border.
The California Democrat said she discussed the plan Monday morning with Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, a South Carolina Republican who is generally an ally of Trump’s but is staunchly opposed to the president’s move in Syria.
“Our first order of business was to agree that we must have a bipartisan, bicameral joint resolution to overturn the President’s dangerous decision in Syria immediately,” Pelosi tweeted Monday.
But Graham characterized the call differently and said Monday that he’s planning bipartisan legislation to sanction Turkey, which has moved aggressively to attack Syria since Trump’s announcement that he would move several dozen U.S. military advisers away from the conflicted border region, leaving the Kurds to fend for themselves.
“Just spoke with Speaker Pelosi regarding congressional action on Turkey’s incursion of Syria,” Graham tweeted. “Speaker supports bipartisan sanctions against Turkey’s outrages in Syria. She also believes we should show support for Kurdish allies and is concerned about the reemergence of ISIS.”

Pentagon reportedly rethinking whether it’s still safe to keep them there
The military situation near the Turkish border in Syria remains in flux, with allegiances shifting quickly amid uncertainty of how everything will shake out. But the fast-moving developments also have drawn attention to a lesser-known fact of US foreign policy: The Pentagon has about 50 tactical nuclear weapons stored in Turkey at its Incirlik Air Base, reports Business Insider. The big question: Is it still safe to keep them there now that US-Turkey relations are fraying?
Under review: Officials in the State and Energy departments have begun “quietly reviewing” plans to evacuate the weapons, reports the New York Times. “Those weapons, one senior official said, were now essentially Erdogan’s hostages,” writes David Sanger. “To fly them out of Incirlik would be to mark the de facto end of the Turkish-American alliance. To keep them there, though, is to perpetuate a nuclear vulnerability that should have been eliminated years ago.”
In vaults: The bombs have been stored in underground vaults at Incirlik since the 1960s, per a backgrounder in the New Yorker. That goes back to the days when Incirlik turned into a crucial Cold War base. The story says the vaults “hold about fifty B-61 hydrogen bombs—more than 25% of the nuclear weapons in the NATO stockpile.”
Old question: Business Insider notes that experts have been questioning the safety of keeping the weapons in Turkey even before the latest developments. “An airbase is a not a fortress; it is not intended to withstand a siege by the host government any more than an embassy might,” wrote Jeffrey Lewis of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at Middlebury College in 2016. The base is less than 100 miles from the Syrian border, where the new conflict in unfolding.
Deterrent: A piece at Quartz notes that one reason the stockpile has remained in Turkey all these years has been the hope that it would deter Turkey from seeking nuclear missiles of its own. “An illegal Tunisian migrant, who had been deported from Italy, mocked populist leader Matteo Salvini after getting back into the country, saying he was glad Salvini was gone.
The Tunisian is one of around 2,000 migrants who have landed in Italy in September and was interviewed by Italian media on the island of Lampedusa last week, Italian broadcaster TGCOM24 reports.
“I came in 2011. They expelled me in 2019. I had a residence permit. Then I participated in a fight, and they denounced me. Because at that time, there was Salvini,” the Tunisian said.
“I know he’s not there anymore and I’m happy about it,” he added. The migrant confirmed that many in Tunisia knew that Salvini was no longer in the Italian government and claimed that more migrants were leaving the North African country for Italy every day.

Salvini has repeatedly slammed the leftist Italian coalition government of the Five Star Movement and the Democratic Party which has opened the country’s ports to migrant transport NGOs. As interior minister, Matteo Salvini had closed the ports to NGO ships.
“Now the new leftist government is reopening the ports: hardly advocates of the Italians. Here, I see advocates of illegal immigrants,” Salvini said last month.

WASHINGTON — A video depicting a macabre scene of a fake President Trump shooting, stabbing and brutally assaulting members of the news media and his political opponents was shown at a conference for his supporters at his Miami resort last week, according to footage obtained by The New York Times.
Several of Mr. Trump’s top surrogates — including his son Donald Trump Jr., his former spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders and the governor of Florida, Ron DeSantis — were scheduled to speak at the three-day conference, which was held by a pro-Trump group, American Priority, at Trump National Doral Miami. Ms. Sanders and a person close Mr. Trump’s son said on Sunday that they did not see the video at the conference.
The video, which includes the logo for Mr. Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, comprises a series of internet memes. The most violent clip shows Mr. Trump’s head superimposed on the body of a man opening fire inside the “Church of Fake News” on parishioners who have the faces of his critics or the logos of media organizations superimposed on their bodies. Crushed bodies and shattered bones:’ China’s Xi Jinping threatens dissidents amid Hong Kong protests
Chinese President Xi Jinping raised the specter of a violent crackdown on protesters against the Communist government, as Beijing rebuffs international condemnation for human rights abuses.
“Anyone attempting to split China in any part of the country will end in crushed bodies and shattered bones,” Xi said Sunday, per state-run media.
That warning was issued from Nepal, where thousands of Tibetan Buddhists have taken refuge from Chinese Communist rule. But the blanket threat is likely a message to the protesters in Hong Kong and Western-allied leaders of Taiwan, whom Chinese officials regard as “separatists” and advocates of “secessionism” from the mainland government.
“And any external forces backing such attempts at dividing China will be deemed by the Chinese people as pipe-dreaming,” Xi also said.
Hong Kong has been rocked by protests for months, as dissidents were outraged by the Beijing-backed local government’s attempt to pass an extradition bill that would allow mainland Chinese authorities to take custody of Hong Kong residents based on flimsy evidence. Vietnam pulls DreamWorks’ ‘Abominable’ film over South China Sea map
HANOI, Oct 14 (Reuters) – Vietnam has pulled DreamWorks’ animated film “Abominable” from cinemas over a scene featuring a map which shows China’s unilaterally declared “nine-dash line” in the South China Sea, state media reported on Monday.
The U-shaped line is a feature used on Chinese maps to illustrate its claims over vast expanses of the resource-rich South China Sea, including large swathes of what Vietnam regards as its continental shelf, where it has awarded oil concessions.
Last week, sports network ESPN faced criticism of its coverage of a row between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and China after using a map that featured the line.
China and Vietnam have been locked in a standoff since China dispatched a vessel to conduct an energy survey in waters controlled by Vietnam in early July.
“We will revoke (the film’s licence),” Ta Quang Dong, deputy minister of culture, sports and tourism, was quoted as saying by the Thanh Nien newspaper.
The ministry is in charge of licensing and censoring foreign films.

Hunter Biden steps down from Chinese-backed firm following corruption claims
Joe Biden’s son, 49-year-old Hunter Biden, will be leaving his position at a Chinese-backed private equity fund by the end of the month. The announcement was made in a statement released by his lawyers on Sunday.
Hunter pledged that he will not work for foreign-owned companies if his father is elected in 2020. He said he wants to avoid any potential conflicts of interest.
President Trump continues to call for transparency from Hunter and Joe Biden regarding their business dealings with companies in China and Ukraine.
“But (I) also insist on transparency from Joe Biden and his son Hunter on the millions of dollars that have been quickly…taken out of Ukraine and China,” the president said recently. “Millions and millions of dollars (were) taken out very rapidly while he was vice president.”

Turkey says Kurdish forces emptied Islamic State prison in northeast Syria
ANKARA (Reuters) – Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Monday Syrian Kurdish YPG fighters had emptied a jail holding Islamic State prisoners in a part of Syria where Ankara is mounting an offensive, and that the prisoners there had been abducted.

Dayton family outraged that brother shot by clerk while robbing store
A Dollar General clerk fatally shot an armed robber Wednesday night inside the store at 2228 North Gettysburg Avenue.
“I just had somebody try to attempt and rob me over here at Dollar General on Gettysburg,” the 911 caller said. “Came in with a firearm, threatened to take money out the drawer, pointed a gun at me and my staff members.”
The suspect, believed to be in his 20s, entered the store about 6:20 p.m. with a firearm, and the clerk shot him after he demanded money, Dayton police Sgt. Thomas Schloss said.
“He pointed a gun at me, I had a firearm on me, I pulled my firearm and I shot him in self-defense,” the caller said.
Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Kent Harshbarger said Roosevelt Rappley, 23, of Dayton, was pronounced dead at the the scene.

Trump did not betray the Kurds
The US has neither major influence in Syria nor an interest in confronting Turkey to protect the Kurds. Trump avoided war with Turkey this week and began extracting America from an open-ended commitment to the Kurds it never made.
The near-consensus view of US President Donald Trump’s decision to remove American special forces from the Syrian border with Turkey is that Trump is enabling a Turkish invasion and double-crossing the Syrian Kurds who have fought with the Americans for five years against the Islamic State group. Trump’s move, the thinking goes, harms US credibility and undermines US power in the region and throughout the world.
There are several problems with this narrative. The first is that it assumes that until this week, the US had power and influence in Syria when in fact, by design, the US went to great lengths to limit its ability to influence events there.

“A man who deliberately drove his car into several people outside Britain’s Parliament in a bid “to kill as many people as possible” was sentenced Monday to life imprisonment for attempted murder.
During a hearing at London’s Central Criminal Court, Judge Maura McGowan said Salih Khater must serve a minimum of 15 years for the August 2018 attack that injured three people.
“Even acting alone, you acted for a terrorist purpose,” McGowan said. “All the evidence is consistent with that conclusion.”
Khater, 30, was convicted in July of driving his car into people outside Parliament before colliding with a security barrier guarded by police.
While, Khater was not convicted of a terrorist offense, the judge said his “undoubted intention was to kill as many people as possible and by doing so spread fear and terror.”
McGowan called it “an attack on strangers and police officers at the seat of democracy in this country.”
The incident came a year after London was hit by several deadly vehicle attacks, including one outside Parliament.
Prosecutor Alison Morgan told jurors at Khater’s trial that his attack was “premeditated and deliberate” She said Khater’s reason for the attack was unclear, but that the choice of target indicated a “terrorist motive.”
Khater, a British citizen originally from Sudan, claimed he drove to London to apply for a visa at the Sudanese embassy but “got lost” around Westminster and panicked.
Defense lawyer Peter Carter told the court Khater was an “enigma” and had not explained his actions. He said there was no evidence Khater had links to terrorism.
London police said the sentence and judge’s comments underscored their view that terrorism was the motive.
“This was a man who used his car as a weapon to attempt to kill as many people as possible spreading fear and terror,” said Richard Smith, the Metropolitan Police’s counterterror chief. “It was our view that this attack was carried out with a terrorist purpose and the sentence confirms this.””

Liberals Call For Reckoning – Threaten Trump’s Family And Friends
Far left “Squad” member Rashida Tlaib made it very clear on Sunday that she and her fellow Democrats are considering imprisoning Trump allies who fail to comply with the House’s bogus impeachment inquiry.
Tlaib told a local news program in her district, Deadline Detroit, that Democrats, who have issued a number of subpoenas to Trump friends, family members, and administration officials, have discussed detaining those who don’t show up to testify.
“There have been actual serious conversations about what the logistics would look like … if we did have to force someone through a court order to come before the Congressional committee,” she said.
Congress typically negotiates with potential witnesses who receive subpoenas but have concerns about testifying. Tlaib is fully aware of the fact that this is not exactly standard protocol and that they are treating the situation differently simply because of their raw hatred of Trump. “This is pretty uncharted territory for many of us and even for Congress,” Tlaib said.
Tlaib, for her part, has a history of a desire to jail ideological opponents, particularly those allied with the president, who could have information as to whether Trump discussed a deal with Ukrainian officials, returning cancelled foreign aid if Ukrainian prosecutors pursued Hunter Biden, son of former Vice President Joe Biden, and investigated an energy corporation that placed Hunter Biden on its board.

FYI: If they go this route the Sargent of Arms of the House makes the arrests, those arrested are held in a cell in the House of Representatives. I don’t remember where I read the following but I remember reading that there is only one small cell so they can only hold a very limited number of people at a time.

A Washington man’s guns have been confiscated under red flag laws after posting memes on social media about the controversial movie “Joker.”
Authorities have confirmed that three guns were removed from a Redmond, WA man under an “extreme protection order” based on his social media activity. One offending Twitter post, based off of a popular meme, pictured the man holding two AK-47 rifles with the caption: “One ticket for joker please.”
They also claim that he posted offensive comments toward women back in 2017 to justify the use of red flag laws, showing that anything will be used to justify gun confiscation. The man will have a court appearance on Oct. 15 where he will have to grovel before a judge in order to get his guns back.

Turkey’s military offensive into the overwhelmingly Kurdish northeastern Syria is sending messages on many wavelengths. One consequence is beyond dispute: Turkey is adding further chaos, bloodshed and tears to a region already in turmoil. The U.S. had apparently “assur[ed] Kurdish protection from Turkey.” Trump spoke of “economic devastion” if Kurdish forces were attacked. “As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!),” Trump tweeted on October 7. So where is this “economic devastation” against Turkey? Or does that make two promises that the U.S. has not kept?
In theory, the Turkish incursion will build a safe zone that is 30 kilometers (20 miles) deep and stretches more than 480 kilometers (300 miles) toward Syria’s Iraqi border -– which just so happens to be the very place where many of the Kurds in Syria live. From there, the Turkish army will push Kurdish militants south and ward off an “existential threat” to Turkey. Once cleared of the YPG forces, the main Kurdish group (the Syrian offspring of the insurgent umbrella organization PKK) Turkey says it will build homes, hospitals schools and rehabilitation centers for the two million Syrian refugees it hosts.
This happy-ending scenario may not materialize so easily.

“The Republicans would like nothing better because they view their role as defending the president and being the president’s lawyers. If witnesses could tailor their testimony to other witnesses. They would love for one witness to be able to hear what another witness says so that they can know what they can give away and what they can’t give away,” Schiff said.
Schiff, who completely fabricated President Trump’s phone call to Zelensky during a congressional hearing, had the nerve to say he wants to prevent President Trump and his lawyers from ‘fabricating testimony to suit their interests.’
“There’s a reason why investigations and grand jury proceedings for example, and I think this is analogous to a grand jury proceeding, are done out of the public view initially. Now we may very well call some of the same witnesses or all the same witnesses in public hearings as well. But we want to make sure that we meet the needs of the investigation and not give the president or his legal minions the opportunity to tailor their testimony and in some cases fabricate testimony to suit their interests.” Schiff said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” with zero push back from host Margaret Brennan.

Depending on the level of culture and social progress, violence can take different forms in different societies. In the mid?twentieth century, Stalin’s brutal communist government killed more Soviet citizens through privation, forced labor, and famine than soldiers fighting the Germans in World War II.
In 1994, the Hutu?led Rwandan government massacred between 800,000 and over one million people, mostly Tutsis, in a genocide carried out largely with machete?wielding (not guns) government forces. The massacres took place despite the presence of UN “peace?keeping” forces, armed with automatic weapons who failed to intervene. The Tutsis were unarmed and helpless.
Civilian disarmament has always preceded genocide in authoritarian states. The political formula for accomplishing this goal is and remains: Media indoctrination against firearms, followed by gun licensing and registration, then banning, confiscation, and finally total civilian disarmament.
