The United States will not support Turkey in its operation in Northern Syria, the White House announced after phone talks between US President Donald Trump and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
“Today, President Donald J. Trump spoke with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey by telephone. Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria. The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the ISIS territorial ‘Caliphate,’ will no longer be in the immediate area,” the White House statement says.
According to Turkish presidential spokesman Ibrahim Kalin, Ankara will create a safe zone in Syria to exterminate terrorists and ensure the safe return of the refugees to their homeland.
Meanwhile, media reported that the US military had evacuated two observation posts in Ras al-Ain and Tell Abiad ahead of the looming operation. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed that the withdrawal has started after his phone call with Trump, adding that Ankara and Washington woild continue the talks on the issue.
He also announced his plan to visit Washington to meet with Trump in the first half of November, in order to discuss he project of the safe zone and dispute over F-35 fighter jets programme.
On Saturday, Erdogan said that Ankara was planning to launch an operation in northern Syria east of the Euphrates River in the coming days. According to him, the purpose of the operation is to clear the Syrian border with Turkey from Kurdish militias, create a security zone and accommodate Syrian refugees there.
On August 7, Turkey and the United States agreed to create a safe zone in northern Syria after months of tensions between the two countries over the presence of Kurdish militia in the region.
Later in August, Erdogan warned that his country could launch a military operation against Kurdish forces in Syria to the east of the Euphrates River if the United States failed to meet Ankara’s conditions for a safe zone.
The area to the east of the Euphrates is currently controlled by the self-defence forces, primarily comprised of the Kurdish militia, including the US-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), which Ankara views as an affiliate of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), listed as a terrorist organisation in Turkey.
In December 2018, Erdogan announced that Turkey was ready to kick off a military operation against Kurdish militia on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River as well as in Syria’s Manbij, located near the Turkish border if the United States did not remove the fighters from there.
Shortly thereafter, the Turkish president stated that he had decided to postpone the beginning of the operation following a phone conversation with Trump in mid-December, during which POTUS revealed his plans to pull out all Americans troops from Syria.
Turkey has long been opposed to the presence of Kurdish militia in the north of Syria, claiming that they posed a threat to the country’s security. In January 2018, Turkey launched a military operation in the city of Afrin against the US-backed Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). The offensive was slammed as aggression by Damascus.”

Turkish-backed troops train in Afrin preparing for incursion into Syria
Turkish-backed Syrian fighters have been training near the Syrian northern town of Afrin, in preparation for an expected Turkish incursion into Syria.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has not elaborated on the planned Turkish incursion but said Turkey was determined to halt what it perceives as threats from the Syrian Kurdish fighters.
Syria: US forces drive through north east after withdrawal announcement
US military forces were seen driving through northeastern Syria on Monday after the White House announced in a statement it would pull out troops from the area. Footage shows a convoy of US military vehicles traversing a highway in the Tell Abyad District.
“The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the Isis territorial ‘caliphate’, will no longer be in the immediate area,” The White House statement released on October 9 said.
The withdrawal of US forces comes ahead of a planned Turkish military operation to create a ‘safe zone’ the Northern Syria. According to the White House statement Turkey, will ‘soon’ begin the operation.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan confirmed the White House statement at a news conference on Monday, stating that the official withdrawal of US troops had begun.
Turkish jets strike Kurdish targets in northern Syria: reports
Attack against the US allies comes after the Pentagon pulls Ankara out of air tasking order in Syria
Turkey’s air force launched late Monday an offensive against Kurdish targets in northeast Syria, the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported, following a US decision to withdraw troops from the region.
Hebrew media reported that according to Kurdish sources, the strikes targeted a Kurdish base in western Iraq near the Syrian border, in an attempt to withhold supply and logistics from Kurds in eastern Syria.
The attack comes despite warnings by the Pentagon against such an operation. The Department of Defense spokeswoman Carla Gleason said that the US military has removed Turkey from the anti-IS coalition’s air tasking order, effectively halting its access to surveillance information.
The Pentagon also issued a statement, saying “The Department of Defense made clear to Turkey — as did the president — that we do not endorse a Turkish operation in Northern Syria.”
However, on Monday morning, US President Donald Trump asserted in a series of tweets that “Turkey will soon be moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria.”
After drawing relentless criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike, the US leader seemed to retract from his initial statement, writing on Twitter that “If Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!).”
France joined the warning calls to Turkey, urging it to “avoid any initiative” that could harm the fight against the Islamic State group in Syria.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his army was ready to launch operations to thwart Kurdish militants “at any moment.”
“There is a phrase that we always say: we can come any night without warning,” Erdogan told reporters. “It is absolutely out of the question for us to further tolerate the threats from these terrorist groups,” he said, referring to Kurdish militants.

Turkish War Planes Strike Kurds: Trump’s Warning To ‘Obliterate’ Ankara’s Economy Wasn’t Enough
President Donald Trump sent a dire warning to Turkey Monday, on Twitter that if the NATO ally strikes in Northern Syria against the Kurdish people he will ‘obliterate’ Ankara’s economy but by mid-Monday, Turkish warplanes were heading over Northern Syria in a prepared strike against U.S. Kurdish allies in the region.
Shortly before the Turkish warplanes launched to strike, U.S. defense officials cut off Turkey from U.S. air defense systems in the region, according to reports.
The move to cut off Turkey from U.S. intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) networks is a significant admission that the Trump administration believes there is a high probability that Ankara will strike against northern Syrian Kurds.
Threatening to sanction Turkey may work in the short-term but the escalation in violence in the region proved it was not enough to stop the advance of Ankara against the Kurdish factions in Northern Syria. By the time I was almost done writing this column, the Turkish launched their strike.
It looks like Turkey ignored Trump’s economic sanctions warning, leaving a very uncertain future for the Kurdish people in Northern Syria and a very hostile region again in the throngs of extremist groups and foreign state actors, such as Russia and Iran to gain ground.
This escalation, coupled by evidence that Turkey was allegedly assisting Islamic State fighters as a proxy against Kurds during Syria’s civil war could turn the region into a safe-haven once again for Islamic State and threaten the national security of U.S. assets overseas and at home. It also degenerates the relationship with a long-time U.S. ally in the region: the Kurdish government in Iraq.
In an interview with a captured Islamic State fighter, Anne Speckhard and Ardian Shajkovci reveal Turkey’s alleged role with the terrorist organization. Speckard is the Director of the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism (ICSVE) and serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Psychiatry at Georgetown University School of Medicine. Shajkovici is also with the International Center for the Study of Violent Extremism.
In the complicated relationship between the government of Turkey and ISIS, it’s unclear how much of the relationship was direct and formal, as opposed to support coming from private individuals and entities in Turkey, or in response to the vast amounts of money ISIS had to spend on a network it deployed inside Turkey to receive and funnel foreign fighters, weapons, and medical supplies into its huge state apparatus. In any case, it’s clear that every state needs diplomats to negotiate political deals with the countries near its borders. ISIS, it seems, was no exception to this rule, as ICSVE researchers learned in a February 2019 five-hour interview with an ISIS emir, Abu Mansour al Maghrebi, who claims he essentially served as the ISIS ambassador to Turkey.
According to Abu Mansour, an Islamic State fighter, who is described as the ISIS Ambassador to Turkey, the government in Ankara was working closely with the terrorist organization and creating a safe passage for terrorists in and out of Syria.
“At first, in 2013 we were assigned to receive the arrivals [to the Islamic State via Turkey],” the former Islamic State fighter says. “But later, I supervised the country entry operations, registration as a whole.”
He added, “[then, from 2015] I worked on external relations and relations with Turkish intelligence.”
Further, the Kurdish government and forces in the region that backed the United States during its fight against Islamic State are at a crossroads leaving them vulnerable to Iran’s growing presence in the region, as they search for new allies.
Trump, who faced some criticism after his announcement Sunday night, warned Turkey not to take military action against its longtime foe. However, Kurdish fighters with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), lashed back on Washington saying turning its back on an ally will negatively impact the war against the terrorist factions and create a breeding ground for more.
“As I have stated strongly before, and just to reiterate, if Turkey does anything that I, in my great and unmatched wisdom, consider to be off limits, I will totally destroy and obliterate the Economy of Turkey (I’ve done before!),” Tweeted Trump. “They must, with Europe and others watch over the captured ISIS fighters and families. The U.S. has done far more than anyone could have ever expected, including the capture of 100 percent of the ISIS Caliphate. It is time now for others in the region, some of great wealth, to protect their own territory. THE USA IS GREAT!”
Critics on both sides of the aisle, including Sen. Lindsey Graham, strongly opposed Trump’s recent decision to pull troops out of Northern Syria, thus abandoning the Kurdish forces in the region that worked with U.S. troops to target ISIS fighters during Syria’s long civil war.
Graham warned Trump on Monday afternoon that the decision to withdraw all U.S. forces was the same mistake made during President Obama’s administration.
“The Obama-libertarian foreign policy does not make America safe,” Tweeted Graham. “If ignoring radical Islam made America safe, there would NOT have been a 9/11.”
He added, “No matter what President Trump is saying about his decision, it is exactly what President Obama did in Iraq with even more disastrous consequences for our national security. Unlike President Obama, I hope President Trump will reassess and take sound military advice.”
Concern is mounting that Turkish forces will strike the Kurdish people residing in the North of the country and lack of security forces will once again pave a path for a safe-haven for various extremist terrorist organizations in the region, specifically Islamic State.
According to The National Interest online magazine, “the political branch of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) was blindsided by the Trump administration’s decision to hand over territory once occupied by ISIS fighters to Turkey.”
Trump’s decision came late Sunday night and by Monday morning, stated the online news outlet, “it became clear that many parties who were involved in carving out a safe zone in Northern Syria weren’t privy to the administration’s decision making process.”
By mid-Monday, the Kurdish people were on their own and facing the war planes from Turkey.

Turkey starts bombing Kurds in Syria as US pulls out – report
Syrian news agency says Turkish forces hit positions of Syrian Democratic Forces militia in northeast of the country
Turkish forces reportedly began bombing Syrian Kurd positions in north-east Syria on Monday evening, a day after the White House announced that US forces would be pulling out of the area.
The Syrian Arab News Agency said that Turkey hit positions of the Syrian Democratic Forces, a Kurdish militia that allied with US forces against the Islamic State group in Syria.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has threatened for months to launch a military operation across the border. He views the Syria Kurdish forces as a threat to his country as Ankara has struggled with a Kurdish insurgency within Turkey.
Republicans and Democrats have long warned that allowing a Turkish attack could lead to a massacre of the Kurds and send a troubling message to American allies across the globe.
Several of US President Donald Trump’s closest allies on Capitol Hill voiced similar concerns Monday, with Republican South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham warning the US withdrawal would also make the situation dangerous for Israel.
“The most probable outcome of this impulsive decision is to ensure Iran’s domination of Syria,” Graham tweeted. “The US now has no leverage and Syria will eventually become a nightmare for Israel.”
Earlier, Graham said he will call on Congress to reverse the sudden decision to withdraw American forces from positions along or near Turkey’s border with Syria.
MK Naftali Bennett of the right-wing Yamina alliance said Monday night that the assault on the Kurds was a sign that Israel could only rely on itself when it came to its security.
On Sunday night, the White House said US forces in northeastern Syria will step aside and clear the way for an expected Turkish assault — essentially abandoning Kurdish fighters who fought alongside American forces in the years-long battle to defeat the Islamic State group.
Trump defended his decision on Monday, saying that he “was elected on getting out of these ridiculous endless wars.” If Turkey were to do anything “off limits,” he said, he would consequence the country harshly.

Videos circulating on social media appear to show Turkish forces targeting Kurdish troops near Syria’s border with Iraq with airstrikes, just hours after the US announced it would be pulling out of the region.
Turkish forces launched airstrikes against Kurdish and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) positions in al-Hasakah province in northeastern Syria, according to SANA news agency, which initially reported there were no casualties from the attacks.
Turkish planes reportedly attacked SDF headquarters in Hasakah province, according to Saudi broadcaster al-Ikhbariya. Other reports suggest Turkey targeted the Kurdish YPG militia, which Ankara views as a terrorist group and which is part of the SDF.

Syrian Kurds protest near US-occupied military base seeking protection from Turkish occupation
“Down with Erdogan, down with the occupation!” chanted protesters as they marched several kilometers from the Syrian border town of Ras al-Ayn in Hasakah governorate to hand over their petition seeking protection from a seemingly imminent Turkish incursion.
Ankara and Washington agreed earlier in August to create a ‘peace corridor’ to facilitate the return of displaced Syrians into northern Syria – until Turkey realized that joint “land and air patrols with [the] US were a fairytale.” Turkish President Erdogan even openly suggested that Washington was only seeking to protect their Kurdish “terrorist group,” and announced that Turkey was all set and ready to go in alone to establish the so-called “safe zone.”

“The Asia Pacific Group of the Inter-Governmental Financial Action Task Force (FATF) published its report on money laundering and terror financing by Pakistan. The report precedes their annual plenary session, where a decision could be made on Islamabad’s “grey-list” status with the possibility of a demotion to their blacklist
A report by the Asia Pacific Group on Money Laundering, the regional body of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF), claims that Pakistan has failed to fully implement a UN Security Council resolution against several UN-designated terrorists and terrorist organisations.
“With the exception of some recent actions discussed in detail below, Pakistan has not taken sufficient measures to fully implement UNSCR 1267 obligations against all listed individuals and entities – especially those associated with Lashkar-eTayyiba (LeT)/Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD), and Falah-i-Insaniat Foundation (FIF) as well as the groups’ leader Hafiz Saeed,” said the report.
The report further said, Pakistan has limited mitigating measures for legal persons, and there is no supervisory oversight for Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism purposes. There are no measures in place to address the money laundering and terror funding risks posed by trusts, including foreign trusts, and waqfs in Pakistan.
The group said in its report that Pakistan’s National Risk Assessment lacks comprehensive analysis.
“Competent authorities have varying levels of understanding of the country’s ML (money laundering) and TF (terror financing) risks, and the private sector has a mixed understanding of risks… Pakistan’s ability to share beneficial ownership information is severely limited”.
The report comes a week before the agency is set to decide whether or not to keep Pakistan on an “enhanced blacklist” in which it had been included in August, after being found non-complaint in 32 of the 40 compliance parametres.
New Delhi has been campaigning to put Islamabad on the “blacklist” after the Pakistan-based Jaish-e Mohammad reportedly claimed responsibility for the deadly suicide attack on a convoy of troops in Pulwama, in Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February killing 40 Indian soldiers.
The grey-list is a warning given to a country to curb money laundering and terror financing. If Pakistan is put on the blacklist, it could face economic sanctions from international financial organisations and countries. It could also impact Islamabad’s international trade.”

“Four police officers were killed and one injured in a knife attack in Paris last week, prompting French prosecutors to launch a terror investigation into the matter.
France’s interior minister Christophe Castaner has warned that the terrorist risk in France remains ‘high’ to ‘very high’ in the wake of the deadly attack that resulted in the deaths of four police officers.
Castaner also admitted that the killing of the officers could have been prevented, but that opportunity had been missed.
Addressing opposition calls for him to resign, the minister stressed that he would not be stepping down.
The official also underlined that since 2003, the police had thwarted 59 terrorist attacks, including three attempts since the beginning of this year.
Last Thursday, a software engineer went on a stabbing spree injuring law enforcement officers with a knife at his workplace in the centre of the French capital.
The assailant was identified as 45-year-old Michael Harpon. A total of five people, including the attacker, were killed in the incident.
France’s national anti-terrorism prosecutor, Jean-Francois Ricard, later said that Harpon was a radicalised Islamist. The incident prompted French prosecutors to open a terror investigation into the deadly attack.

“The far-left French activist group SOS Racisme has begun targetting advertisers of French newspaper Le Figaro after one of its writers, philosopher Eric Zemmour, made a controversial speech on Islam and immigration.
The group began targetting the newspaper advertisers on social media last week, posting several pictures of the magazine Madame Figaro, a women’s magazine published by the paper and a supplement to the paper’s Saturday editions.
The tweets, which targetted iconic French fashion brand Chanel, the owners of Louis Vuitton LVMH, and luxury Swiss watchmaker Rolex, stated, “thanks to your adverts, you are financing the Le Figaro group who is employing Eric Zemmour, a journalist condemned for incitement to racial and religious hatred and who now calls for racist violence. How about it? Do your clients know that?”
The speech, which has been fully translated into English by U.S. blog The American Conservative, is a lengthy polemic on mass migration and Islamisation. In it, Zemmour calls the present migratory flows to Europe a reverse colonisation and said the process was a “double jeopardy”, because in his opinion the difficulties of mass migration are compounded by a resurgent Islam.
The SOS Racisme group, who are a collection of various NGOs, have put pressure on those critical of Islamisation and demographic changes in the past.
In 2017, they were behind a court case against Béziers Mayor Robert Ménard after he wrote on Twitter, “In a class in the city centre of my town, 91 per cent of the children are Muslims. Obviously, this is a problem. There are limits to tolerance.”
SOS Racisme has also been the recipient of cash from billionaire pluotocrat George Soros’s Open Society Foundation, which has funded other far-left groups such as Hope not Hate in Britain and the Expo Foundation in Sweden.
Earlier last week, the Paris Prosecutor’s Office announced they would be launching an investigation into Mr Zemmour following his speech made at the “Convention of the Right” last weekend.”

“The Italian Coast Guard says at least nine people have died when a migrant boat capsized near the island of Lampedusa as they were about to be rescued. Twenty-two people were saved.
The Coast Guard said Monday the overpacked smugglers’ boat overturned as a patrol was boarding migrants some 6 miles off Lampedusa just after midnight.
Authorities said 22 migrants were rescued from the sea, and nine bodies were recovered. The search is underway for more missing.
Initial reports by authorities in Sicily who received the distress call put the number of migrants on board at around 50.”

“Taliban officials say several of their group’s members have been freed from Afghan jails, including former shadow governors, just days after a U.S. envoy met top Taliban leaders in the Pakistani capital following the suspension of U.S.-Taliban talks last month.
The Taliban also said they released three Indian engineers they had been holding, though that has yet to be confirmed by New Delhi or the Afghan government.
The Taliban officials spoke Sunday on condition of anonymity because they were not cleared by their leadership to speak to the media.
Among the Taliban figures freed were the group’s shadow governors for northeastern Kunar province and southwestern Nimroz province, Sheikh Abdul Rahim and Maulvi Rashid, the officials said.
The Taliban have established a shadow government in areas they control across Afghanistan and have even set up courts to try offenders and abide by their strict interpretation of Islamic law, or Sharia.
The Taliban were reportedly released from one of Afghanistan’s largest jails at the Bagram military base, north of the capital, Kabul. While the U.S. troops years ago handed over the sprawling base to Afghan security forces, it still maintains a military presence at Bagram. It wasn’t clear whether the U.S. or Afghan forces released the Taliban.

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has approved a request from a Turkish university to open three campuses in northern Syria.
The campuses will be affiliated with Gaziantep University, which is the south-eastern city bordering Syria. The faculties will be located in Turkish controlled cities.
The decree was approved on Thursday and logged in Turkey’s Official Gazette on Friday.
The university rector, Ali Gur told the Anadolu Agency in May that “There was a high demand from local assemblies and provincial leaders. I went [to northern Syria] myself and saw the demand, they really need it.”
“We have ordered the opening of an Economic and Administrative Faculty in Al-Bab, Islamic Sciences Faculty in Azaz, and Education Faculty in Afrin, which are affiliated to Gaziantep University’s Presidency,” read the presidential decree.
Al-Bab and Azaz have been under Turkey’s control since 2017. It captured Kurdish-majority Afrin in early 2018.
With scholarships on offer for Syrians forced to leave school as a result of the conflict, it is hoped they will be incentivised to return. Turkey currently hosts some 3.6 million Syrian refugees, more than any other country in the world.”

(Bloomberg) — In a farm deep in the southern region of China lives a very big pig that’s as heavy as a polar bear.
The 500 kilogram, or 1,102 pound, animal is part of a herd that’s being bred to become giant swine. At slaughter, some of the pigs can sell for more than 10,000 yuan ($1,399), over three times higher than the average monthly disposable income in Nanning, the capital of Guangxi province where Pang Cong, the farm’s owner, lives.
While Pang’s pigs may be an extreme example of the lengths farmers are going to fill China’s swelling pork shortage problem, the idea that bigger is better has been spreading across the country, home to the world’s most voracious consumers of the meat.
High pork prices in the northeastern province of Jilin is prompting farmers to raise pigs to reach an average weight of 175 kilograms to 200 kilograms, higher than the normal weight of 125 kilograms. They want to raise them “as big as possible,”said Zhao Hailin, a hog farmer in the region.
The trend isn’t limited to small farms either. Major protein producers in China, including Wens Foodstuffs Group Co, the country’s top pig breeder, Cofco Meat Holdings Ltd. and Beijing Dabeinong Technology Group Co. say they are trying to increase the average weight of their pigs. Big farms are focusing on boosting the heft by at least 14%, said Lin Guofa, a senior analyst with consulting firm Bric Agriculture Group.

Speaking to the Washington Post, the women echo the experiences of others who have escaped the estimated thousands of concentration camps built in Xinjiang, China’s largest and westernmost province, to house Uighur, Kazakh, and Kyrgyz ethnic people. While survivors tend to be Kazakh – they can use their dual citizenship to escape to neighboring Kazakhstan – the majority of the 1 to 3 million people trapped in the camps are believed to be Uighurs. Others who have survived have been able to use their marital status to citizens of Pakistan or other neighboring countries to place pressure on Beijing to release them.

Hong Kong lashed by fresh violence as thousands defy mask ban
Hong Kong was rocked by fresh violence Sunday as tens of thousands hit the streets to defy a ban on face masks, sparking clashes with police, street fights and vandalism across the strife-torn city.
Large crowds marched through torrential rain in peaceful but unsanctioned rallies on both sides of Victoria Harbour, condemning the government for deploying emergency powers to ban face masks at public gatherings.
But violence erupted as police dispersed crowds with tear gas, and then battled hardcore protesters in multiple locations — plunging the finance hub into chaos once more.
In one incident, a taxi driver was beaten bloody in the district of Sham Shui Po after he drove into a crowd that had surrounded his car.
“Two girls were hit by the car and one girl was trapped between the car and a shop,” a witness, who gave his surname as Wong, told AFP, adding the crowd managed to push the car off the wounded woman.

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong police took to the streets on Monday night in an apparent show of force in a district that has seen some of the most violent clashes with protesters in recent months, but retreated after a confrontation with angry residents.
Riot police arrived in vans and began marching down Nathan Road, in Mong Kok, some beating their shields, after protesters blocked roads and shone laser lights at a police station.

Four months of protests have plunged the former British colony into its worst political crisis in decades and pose the biggest popular challenge to Chinese President Xi Jinping since he came to power in 2012.
Many Hong Kongers feel police have used excessive force against protesters, many school students and young adults, and are demanding an independent inquiry into their actions.
Greece: 570 migrants from overcrowded Lesbos camp arrive on mainland
A group of 570 migrants from the so called ‘vulnerable category’ arrived in the Greek port of Piraeus on Monday after being transported from the overcrowded Moria camp on Lesbos to the mainland.
Footage shows migrants, most of whom are seeking asylum, arriving at the harbour in Piraeus, near Athens, where officials of the International Organisation for Migration were waiting for them. Large number of women and children carrying their belongings can be spotted disembarking from the ferry, minutes before heading to take buses that would bring them to a camp near the northern city of Thessaloniki.
The move comes at a time when authorities are trying to reduce overcrowding at the camp in Lesbos, which is currently hosting around 13,000 people instead of the 3,000 it was planned for; a situation which has led to scarcity and unrest within the camp.

Trump issued a statement Sunday night that Turkey would shortly be “moving forward with its long-planned operation into Northern Syria,” and “The United States Armed Forces will not support or be involved in the operation, and United States forces, having defeated the ISIS territorial “Caliphate,” will no longer be in the immediate area.”
The safe zone depicted on the map is the area affected by this declaration. It is area that has been majority Kurdish for centuries, and has been held by the Syrian Kurdish forces for most of the last several years during the Syrian civil war.

UK: Dozens arrested as Extinction Rebellion protesters block London roads
Police arrested dozens as several hundred Extinction Rebellion protesters took to the streets of central London on Monday, where they disrupted traffic by occupying the streets outside Westminster blocking various roads leading to government buildings, Downing Street and Trafalgar Square.
Footage shows heavy police presence as activists sat on barricaded roads, chanting, playing drums, holding banners and flags. Some protesters were seen blocking parked cars with bricks.
Similar protests are taking place in Germany and other parts of the world.

As impeachment comes to the fore in the Democrat-controlled House – a consummation members of the Squad have been pushing for – the figurehead is now distancing herself from it. Not with a trumpet fanfare, of course, but with a quiet “meh.”

One of the things that really helps Intel Analysts is a degree in political science. For this reason it is a real good idea to pay close attention to J.E. Dyer when she starts talking about US internal politics. she is seeing a pattern here that I hadn’t noticed but she is the professional and I am the amateur.
First some history, the far left, took control of the Dems back in the early 1970s making their biggest gains when McGovern ran for President against Nixon. This was when the conservative and moderate Dems started to be pushed out of the party. They slowly shifted the definition of who is moderate to the left and people who were always leftist were now called moderate. (As an example if you look at Bill Clinton and his political actions and statements he was always a leftist but is now called a moderate by the leftist press.) During the Reagan years the Conservative Dems were forced out and into the Republicans. During the Obama years the very few Conservatives that remained were forced out. The Democrat shift to the left increased during the George W. years and when Obama ran for President very few in the Dem Party thought anything was wrong when Obama said that we had to move beyond the Constitution.
That brings us to the 2016 election and Donald Trump, the voters saw that the Dems have moved well beyond what the voters wanted and were unlikely to move back unless forced to by the voters. The in 2018 the Radical Left got people elected who were working to push the Dems (and the entire nation into total Marxism) but they faced the problem of the Far Leftists who controlled the Dems. Their goals were the same as the Radical Lefts goals but they were content to move slowly and slowly move the nation. (The analogy of the Frog in the cold water that will set still and by boiled alive if the heat is gradually increased ) The Radical Left isn’t willing to wait a few more decades to get to full Marxism and isn’t willing to accept some setbacks in their program. But first they have to get total control of the Dems, they have been introducing more and more radical ideas and letting the radical base of the Dems force the leaders further and further to the left. They (the radical left) knows this may cause them to lose the House in the next election and probably guarantee a second term for Trump. They also know that the continued attacks on Trump will have generated enough resentment in their radical base that their goal of making the US ungovernable is possible during a second Trump term. This goal of ungovernable is closer the more illegal aliens they can move into the US thus the fight to stop the Border Wall.
J.E. says she is praying for a soft landing for the US, this is a goal we all want and must work to achieve. As long as one nation remains free as an example freedom will return to most of the world. If the US falls to a totalitarian group freedom dies for many decades.

“London mayor Sadiq Khan’s controversial “Online Hate Crime Hub” has investigated 1,612 cases over two years — but secured only six convictions.
The £1.7 million unit, which ties up five “specialist officers” including a senior detective policing Facebook comments, tweets, and so on for “hate”, was hugely controversial when it was announced in 2016, at a time when London’s ongoing violent crime crisis was spiralling out of control.
Years later, it has been revealed that the so-called “Twitter squad” has investigated more than 1,600 cases, but charged only nine alleged offenders during twelve months of full-scale operations — a third of whom were not successfully convicted.
Only one of the six people actually found guilty of an offence received a term of imprisonment — although this was suspended, meaning they will not actually be locked up unless they commit further offences (and even then judges may not activate the sentence).
Susan Hall, a Conservative member of the London Assembly who sits on the capital’s police and crime committee, tweeted that the revelations proved “Sadiq Khan’s £1.7m ‘Hate Crime Hub’ is an exercise in spin over substance.”
“It has prosecuted just six trolls in two years,” she complained.
“Instead of wasting millions on a new unsuccessful unit for PR purposes, he could have put more bobbies on the beat!”
Senior police officers throughout the United Kingdom have not lost their appetite for pursuing people for online speech crimes, however, with Cardiff University having announced a “cutting-edge ethical artificial intelligence” tool named “HateLab” which is being used by “Wales’ four police forces, Greater Manchester Police, Welsh Government and hate crime charities” as recently as December 2018.
Remarkably, HateLab’s developers cited Brexit as a major driver for the tool’s development, with Professor Matthew Williams suggesting that whether the now three-year-old vote to Leave the European Union leads to “a second referendum, a soft Brexit or a no Brexit, there is concern that events will motivate more hate crime”.”

“BBC analysis has revealed that London has 16 of the top 25 knife crime hot spots in England and Wales.
The data from 34 of the 43 police forces include crimes of assault, robbery, sexual offences, the threat to kill, attempted murder, or murder committed with a blade. The report comes as the capital looks set to see the murder rate surpass that of last year, which was already a decade-high level.
Analysis in May by the London Assembly’s Conservatives claimed since Labour’s Sadiq Khan became mayor in 2016, the city has seen knife crime rise by 52 per cent. Mayor Khan has come under criticism for diverting funds on non-essential services, including spending £1.7 million on an online hate crime hub and £34 million on green projects.
Last year, it was revealed that London’s Metropolitan Police Service is dropping investigations into minor, ‘non-serious’ crimes while a separate report revealed the force was abandoning around one-third of all crime reports after a single phone call without investigation.
While the BBC’s analysis revealed that London remains the most dangerous region for knife attacks, the rate of serious knife crime in other areas is outstripping some London boroughs. Those listed include Manchester, Slough, Liverpool, and Blackpool. Other non-London regions listed in the top-25 are Nottingham, Birmingham, and Oldham.
A number of reports have raised the increase in County Lines as a factor in growing knife crime. County Lines are drug-trafficking networks based in metropolitan areas where dealers groom teens into transporting and selling drugs to customers in the suburbs. While the young dealers often cross county boundaries, the crime network is named for the dedicated mobile phone “deal lines” used to take orders from drug users.
Ashley Hackett, chief executive of Blackpool Football Club Community Trust, told the BBC: “There is a significant issue with county lines [drugs courier] gangs in Blackpool, and from that we are seeing that means a lot of young people are carrying knives.”
Media reports that most of the lines originate in London, with The Guardian noting some London lines linked to high-profile cases stretch to as far as Wiltshire, Norwich, and even Wales. Other lines originate in cities like Liverpool, Birmingham, and Manchester.
In January, the National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed that County Lines in London had nearly tripled in one year, and was fueling the rise of crime in the capital.
The BBC report also revealed that knife crime has risen by 81 per cent across England and Wales since 2014, while prosecutions have fallen 20 per cent. Statistics from June showed that knife crime in England and Wales had risen to a nine-year high. The number of fatal stabbings has surged to its highest level since records began in 1946.
Speaking at the Conservative Party conference last week, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson cited the rise of County Lines drug gangs for rising crime in the United Kingdom, but also hit out at middle-class drug users who were fuelling their trade.”

“Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has filed for divorce from her husband.
The Minnesota lawmaker filed papers on Friday, marking the second time she has split from Ahmed Hirsi – the father of her three children.
The two were first married in 2002 but split in 2008. Omar went on to marry British-born Ahmed Elmi in 2009. They divorced in 2017 and Omar and Hirsi were remarried in 2018.
The divorce comes after DailyMail reported in July that the couple had split and Omar, 38, had moved into a penthouse apartment in one of Minneapolis’s trendiest neighborhoods.
The news also follows DailyMail revealing Omar’s secret relationship with her then-married campaign strategist Tim Mynett, whose own wife filed for divorce in August, claiming he had made a ‘shocking declaration of love’ for Omar.
Omar claims in divorce documents that there had been an ‘irretrievable breakdown of the marriage relationship,’ according to TMZ.
She is seeking joint custody of their three children and wants to deny spousal support.
Omar first married Hirsi in an Islamic ceremony in 2002 when she was 19.
Six years later, after two children, the couple said they had ‘reached an impasse in our life together,’ and divorced.
The following year, Omar married Ahmed Nur Said Elmi, a British citizen, just two weeks after he entered the United States.
He has been identified as her brother by many media outlets, though due to a lack of records in their war-torn country of birth that has not been proven.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune wrote in June that it ‘could neither conclusively confirm nor rebut the allegation that (Elmi) is Omar’s sibling.’ Politifact and another myth-busing website, Snopes, came to similar conclusions.
On their marriage application they gave their address as Columbia Heights, Minnesota, but were married 25 miles away in Eden Prairie at a nondescript single-story brick building that houses a county office and a library.
Despite both being Muslim, the ceremony was conducted by Wilecia Harris, a Christian minister. ‘If they had gone to an imam he would have almost certainly have known if they were related,’ one Somali leader in Minnesota said.
That marriage lasted just two years but it was enough to allow Elmi to study alongside his new wife at North Dakota State University.
Records suggest that Omar, Elmi and Hirsi all lived together for at least part of that time.
Omar then had a third child with Hirsi in 2012 and in 2015 she filed a joint tax return with him — even though she was still legally married to Elmi.
She finally divorced Elmi in 2017 and married Hirsi in a civil ceremony the following year.
But in July, DailyMail revealed that Omar had split again with Hirsi and moved out of their family home and into her new penthouse apartment.
The Intercom system at the building lists ‘Omar I’ as a resident but has no mention of Hirsi.
The building boasts its own 14,000 sq. ft. private park, sauna, indoor pool, hot tub and gym.
Omar lives in a three-bedroom apartment on the fourth floor complete with movable granite island, built-in wine rack and stainless steel pot racks in its high-end kitchen.

Spurned Beth also revealed her fears that her husband’s affair could have been going on for the past year in the nine-page divorce filing.
Both Somali-born Omar and Mynett, 38, refused to discuss the fling after multiple sources confirmed it to DailyMailTV.
Beth, who has a 13-year-old-son with Mynett, describes in the papers how her cheating partner made a ‘shocking declaration of love’ for the leftist firebrand.
He is also said to have taken their son to formally meet Omar at the Mynett family’s favorite restaurant in Washington, D.C., when the reproductive health expert was out of town.
Despite being named in the Mynetts’ divorce proceedings, Omar continued to dodge questions about her tangled private life.
She denied being separated from her husband Ahmed Hirsi then refused to comment further on ‘personal matters’, according to Esme Murphy, a reporter with Minneapolis-based WCCO-TV.
‘I have no interest in allowing the conversation about my personal life to continue and so I have no desire to discuss it.’
Mynett’s confession brought his seven-year marriage to Beth to an abrupt end and the former spouses will meet at the D.C.’s Superior Court in October to thrash out divorce terms.
Beth’s attorneys are expected to tell the court how her cheating spouse put their son in ‘harm’s way’ – by exposing him to the media backlash and death threats Omar has received because of her comments about Israel and her high-profile feud with President Donald Trump.
Mynett had recently only had ‘sporadic’ involvement with the couple’s 13-year-old son because of his frequent work assignments with Omar, the filing states.
‘On reflection defendant’s more recent travel and long work hours now appear to be more related his affair with Rep. Omar that his actual work commitments, averaging 12 days a month away from home over the past year,’ it alleges.
Beth says her marriage collapsed in April when veteran Democrat operative Mynett announced he was ‘romantically involved with and in love with another woman, Ilhan Omar’.
‘Although devastated by the betrayal and deceit that preceded his abrupt declaration, Plaintiff told Defendant that she loved him and was willing to fight for the marriage,’ the divorce filing states.
‘Defendant, however told her that was not an option for him. He provided no other explanation for his sudden change of heart.’
After their relationship was revealed, Omar was accused of illegally using campaign cash to pay for her ‘lover’ to travel with her.
According to records, Omar paid Mynett’s company more than $250K in consulting fees and travel expenses within a year, records show. Around $21,500 was solely spent on travel expenses.”

A series of laws recently enacted in the Netherlands have increased discrimination against Muslims and the violation of their rights, Dutch academics are warning.
Martijn de Koning of Amsterdam University’s Anthropology and Sociology Department told Anadolu Agency (AA) that legal regulations affecting religious groups have been made in the past in the Netherlands, but recent steps are now aimed entirely at Muslims.
In August, the Netherlands brought into force a ban on burqas — a full body covering including a face veil worn by some Muslim women – in public institutions.
Clothing that “covers the face,” such as burqas or veils no longer to be worn in public institutions such as schools, hospitals and government offices or on buses and trains, authorities said in August when the new law came into force. The ban was first proposed by far-right politician Geert Wilders in 2005.
In May, the Dutch parliament introduced a bill for the second time to ban ritual slaughter of animals, which would prohibit the methods of humane slaughter followed by Muslim and Jewish communities.
In addition to the burqa ban and restrictions on the animal slaughtering practices, Dutch Education Minister Arie Slob in September ordered a review of schools providing Islamic education.
“Cases such as the ban against halal slaughter and restriction of religious education have affected other religious groups as well. However, with the recent ban on burqas, we have seen that the aim of religious regulations is aimed only at Muslims,” Koning said, adding that this is a serious situation and the government needs to do something about it.
Professor Annelies Moors of Amsterdam University also told AA that politicians have used anti-Muslim rhetoric as a means of gaining votes that each restriction now targets Muslims.
Moors said that negative reactions toward women wearing burqas may increase because of the legal proceedings, noting, “Such restrictions trigger violence and discrimination against Muslims in the community.”
Cross Cultural Human Rights Centre Chairman Professor Tom Zwart said that the Dutch government’s intervention in the course content of Islamic education institutions and Islamic schools is a result of its efforts to make Islam “more democratic and European.” He explained that while Islam instructs Muslim minorities to be committed to the country where they live as long as they have religious freedom, these restrictions harm Muslims’ commitment due to the conflict of loyalties.
The Dutch government’s main advising body in 2015 said the choice to wear an Islamic veil is protected by the constitutional right to freedom of religion, and that it saw no ground to limit that right. It is also said the law was unnecessary, as only about 150 women in The Netherlands wear such clothes.
In 2012, the Dutch Senate scrapped a ban on ritual slaughtering put into law two years prior, allowing exceptions for Jews and Muslims to produce meat in line with religious guidelines. The senate cited violations of freedom of religion in its decision. The new bill introduced by the Party for the Animals calls for scrapping the exceptions for Muslims and Jews.

The Whistleblower Protection Act was put into place for the stated purpose of fighting waste and mismanagement in the civil service. It’s a controversial piece of legislation, but its purpose is clear.
As a Senate report on the 1978 Civil Service Reform Act put it, “What is needed is a means to protect the Pentagon employee who discloses billions of dollars in cost overruns, the GSA employee who discloses widespread fraud, and the nuclear engineer who questions the safety of certain nuclear plants. These conscientious civil servants deserve statutory protection rather than bureaucratic harassment and intimidation.” This does not cover a partisan effort to undermine the President of the United States.
It does not mean a government employee taking issue with a president’s foreign policy.
A whistleblower exposes structural waste, mismanagement and abuse within the civil service, among government contractors and in varied ways within the private sector. This is meant to protect employees who blow the whistle on misbehavior, not to serve as cover for assorted political agendas.

Canan Kaftancioglu, a Turkish politician and critic of Islam, has received a ten-year-long prison sentence for “blasphemy against Islam.” If the Court of Cassation upholds the verdict, Kaftancioglu will have to serve time in prison.
Canan is the executive director of the Istanbul branch of Cumhuriyet Halk Partisi (CHP), the secular opposition. Islamists have suffered a crushing defeat in Istanbul, the largest city in Europe and the fourth largest city in the world, thanks to Canan’s relentless efforts. Canan has multiple college degrees and a long history of human rights advocacy, including working for TIHV (Turkish Human Rights Foundation). She has written her dissertation about “Torture Victims in Forensic Medicine.” Her father was assassinated by Islamists.
Islamists are furious because they lost Istanbul, and Canan has now become their scapegoat – given her courageous and colorful rhetoric. Canan once quipped on Twitter: “men with small dicks want to build big mosques.” She posted pictures of herself eating pork (forbidden in Islam) and acknowledged the historical reality of the Armenian Genocide. She once wrote, “stop praying, Muslims: there is no room left in paradise.” She expressed support for Kurdish dissidents, accused the current Turkish government of serial murder, and wrote that “being human is a higher dignity than being Turkish.” She is a Socratic provocateur, perhaps. But her irreverent statements serve a higher purpose: to protest human rights violations. She is the proverbial canary in the coal mine.

The ad, which documented the facts about Islamic anti-Semitism, called out Jewish communal complacency by listing the undeniable facts about Islamic anti-Semitism.
The CAIRH ad pointed out that “the world’s 16 most antisemitic countries are all in the Muslim Middle East where 74% to 93% exhibit extreme Antisemitism” and that globally, and in America and Europe, Muslim Antisemitism rates are far higher than average.
It also demonstrated that Islamic Antisemitism is not about politics, but is a religious bigotry that has its origins in the Koran.
This powerful ad will no doubt elicit ugly responses from CAIR, ISNA, and various Islamist groups, and their leftist Jewish allies, who insist that any expose of Islamic Antisemitism is Islamophobia. But the ad’s use of evidence-based statistics demonstrates that the problem of Islamic anti-Semitism is real and inescapable.
