Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. Swedish ‘Sustainable Food’ Project Teaches Kids to Eat Insects, Garbage (sputniknews, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201909231076866431-swedish-sustainable-food-project-teaches-kids-to-eat-insects-garbage/

“A new Swedish project aimed at cultivating a taste for climate-friendly food among little children includes such dubious delicacies as Algae Ball, Bug Mac, and Tasty Waste.

The Swedish company WIN WIN has launched a new project aimed at paving the way for the “food of the future” in order to enable a “switch from high-carbon beef to low-carbon bugs”, the newspaper Veckans Affärer reported.

The idea of Play Food from the Future is for the kids to acquire a taste for food considered marginally edible or unsavoury by today’s standards by using 3D-printed toys.

“The toy food should accustom children and parents to the idea that the food of the future contains ingredients that many of today’s adults would reject,” the press release said.

“Each toy shows a category of sustainable food that children are probably not used to, but which we will have to start eating in the future if we are to save this planet,” Petter Swanberg, one of the creators behind the project, told Veckans Affären.

According to the company, the menu of the future includes insects, algae, waste, powder food and other nutritious and climate-friendly ingredients.

Sustainable food, project manager Lovisa Ralpher stressed, is “vital” for mankind’s survival.

The company’s ad features kids changing their attitude towards such delicacies as Algae Ball, Bug Mac, Power Powder, and Tasty Waste from “yuck!” to enthusiasm…

However, not all Swedes were equally zealous about the perspective of ‘eating sustainably’.

“You may also try teaching your children how to grow, breed, hunt and fish their own food”, a Swede tweeted…

Some voiced apocalyptic premonitions about the trend.

“Our children will be forced to eat waste. They will die of starvation and cold. We see a new totalitarian ideology being born, climatism, which will result in the de-industrialisation and self-destruction of Western civilization. No adults can possibly stop it”, one tweet said…”

  2. Russia Registers 35 Ceasefire Violations in Syria Over Past 24 Hours – Defen?e Ministry (sputniknews, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201909231076866454-russia-registers-35-ceasefire-violations-in-syria-over-past-24-hours—defence-ministry/

“The Russian side of the Russian-Turkish commission monitoring the implementation of the Syrian truce has registered 35 ceasefire violations in the country over the past 24 hours, while the Turkish side has recorded 29 truce breaches, the Russian Defence Ministry said on Monday.

“The Russian side of the Russian-Turkish commission reviewing issues related to violations of the ceasefire has registered 35 cases of firing in [Syrian] provinces: nine in Latakia, nine in Aleppo, 14 in Idlib and three in Hama. The Turkish side has registered 29 truce breaches: seven in Idlib, seven in Hama, four in Aleppo and 11 in Latakia,” the ministry said in its daily bulletin.

The ministry added that Russian military had held no humanitarian operations in Syria over the given period.

Russia, Turkey and Iran are the ceasefire guarantors in conflict-affected Syria. Russia carries out humanitarian operations across the country on a regular basis and helps Damascus in providing safe passage for the return of Syrian refugees.

The Syrian government has regained control over most of the territories that were seized by terrorists in late 2017, however, anti-terror operations still continue in a number of areas.”

  3. ‘They Must Go Home’: Danish Government Scraps ‘Alcatraz for Migrants’ (sputniknews, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201909231076865915-they-must-go-home-danish-government-scraps-alcatraz-for-migrants/

“Denmark’s previous centre-right government planned to turn a deserted island that has for decades served as a laboratory for infectious diseases including African swine fever into a deportation camp for jihadists and criminal migrants.

Denmark’s new centre-left Social Democrat government has officially scrapped plans to accommodate criminal immigrants slated for deportation on the uninhabited island of Lindholm off Copenhagen’s coast.

According to Social Democrat Immigration and Integration Minister Matthias Tesfaye, the plans set forward by the previous government, led by the liberal-conservative Venstre party, have been permanently shelved, mostly for economic reasons.

“It is very expensive to sail criminal foreigners back and forth between Lindholm and the mainland. One night on the island costs the same as one night at a luxury hotel,” Tesfaye explained to Danish Radio, likening it to “throwing money into the window” and pledging to find a “cheaper solution”.

Furthermore, Tesfaye concluded that the perspective of being sent to a remote facility is “hardly likely” to encourage more deportees to travel home of their own accord.

The revocation of the plans doesn’t mean that Denmark has changed its attitude towards crime, Tesfaye assured.

“Criminal foreigners are not welcome in Denmark. They must go home,” he stressed.

The now-terminated plan would have housed up to 125 rejected asylum seekers, migrants with criminal records and jihadists slated for deportation. Reasons for being unable to deport an individual include statelessness or lack of a re-admission arrangement between Denmark and the deportee’s home country.

Annual expenses per resident would be DKK 1 million ($150,000) on Lindholm compared to DKK 300,000 ($45,000) at existing deportation facilities, according to the immigration ministry.

The cancellation of the “deportation island” sparked mixed reactions. Some hailed the decision to scrap was was already dubbed “Alcatraz for migrants” as symbolic, praising the Social Democrats for their departure from their predecessors’ hardline immigration policy. Owing to their slim majority, the Social Democrats are reliant on an array of junior left-wing parties, who are pushing for a more lenient immigration policy.

By contrast, Danish People’s Party foreign and integration spokeswoman Pia Kjærsgaard called the development “sad”. She challenged Tesfaye by claiming that keeping criminal migrants inside Denmark was even more expensive.

“It’s quite grotesque to talk about price. Neither the Social Democrats nor the ‘red’ support parties usually do that. If it’s about the money, then send them home. It’s expensive to have criminal aliens in Denmark”, Kjærsgaard said, taking a jab at her left-wing opponents.

Venstre’s integration spokesman Mads Fuglede reminded of the danger posed by the criminal migrants.

“Don’t forget that in many cases these are dangerous people, and in our view, it would have been optimal to place them on Lindholm”, Fuglede told the newspaper BT.

For over 90 years, the island of Lindholm has served as a laboratory for infectious diseases such as foot and mouth disease, rabies and African swine fever.”

  4. Iran to Present ‘Coalition of Hope’ Gulf Initiative at UN Amid Tensions Over Attacks on Saudi Aramco (sputniknews, Sep 23, 2019)

“Earlier on Sunday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s administration said that meetings have been scheduled for him with UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and French President Emmanuel Macron on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, as tensions have been spiralling in the wake of the attack on Saudi Aramco oil facilities.

Iran’s president, Hassan Rouhani, has stated he will propose a new initiative for the security of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman at this week’s UN General Assembly, as Tehran and Washington have been sparring in the diplomatic arena in the wake of the drone attack on Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities.

“This year, we will be putting forward a plan at the United Nations, according to which the Islamic Republic of Iran – in cooperation with the regional countries – can ensure security in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman with the help of the region’s countries,” Tasnim quoted the president as saying as he addressed a military parade in Tehran marking the 39th anniversary of the Iran-Iraq war.

“The security of the Persian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Sea of Oman is indigenous. Foreign forces could cause problems and insecurity for our nation and region,” Rouhani added.

Rouhani said he will be attending the UN General Assembly in New York with the mottos “Coalition of Hope” and “Hormuz Peace Initiative”.

According to Hassan Rouhani, the “Coalition of Hope”, was conceived to exclude the US, rendering it unpalatable for Gulf states who see Washington as an ally and protector.

Iran’s foreign minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, however, said opposition to foreign forces in the Gulf was not a precondition for joining the coalition, The Guardian reported.

According to Zarif, all permanent members of the UN Security Council were welcome to participate…”

  5. Niger, Russia Have Military Cooperation Deals to Be Extended Biennially – Foreign Minister (sputniknews, Sep 23, 2019)

“Niger and Russia will extend defence cooperation deals into large-scale contracts every two years to strengthen bilateral ties under the 2017 intergovernmental military agreement, Nigerien Foreign Minister Kallo Ankourao said.

“In the military sphere, which is probably the most important thing, two years ago we signed an agreement, and on the basis of this agreement we acquire military equipment from Russia – helicopters, military weapons. There are already deals, we start with the small contracts, but every two years we will increase them so it’s going to be a big contract,” Ankourao said…”

  6. Pakistani Drone Reportedly Violates Indian Airspace, Drops Arms (sputniknews, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201909231076866701-pakistani-drone-reportedly-violates-indian-airspace-drops-arms/

“Police in the Indian state of Punjab have alleged that Pakistan recently used a drone to drop weapons in the area. Islamabad has yet to comment on the claims.

Indian police claim a Pakistani drone was linked to the capture of a terror cell allegedly affiliated to the Khalistan Zindabad Force on Sunday.

The Khalistan Zindabad Force is a banned militant group that has been fighting for the creation of a separate independent state of Khalistan for the Sikh community since 1988, when terrorism was at its peak in the state of Punjab.

Initial investigations allege that the drone was used to deliver weapons and communication hardware from Pakistan to terrorists based in either Punjab or Jammu and Kashmir, a senior police official told Indian daily The Tribune.

Police said they recovered five AK-47 rifles, pistols, satellite phones and hand grenades from the four people arrested on suspicion of being part of a terror cell.

The warning by state police led Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on 22 September to urge the central government to alert the country’s air force and paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) about the possibility of drones being used to supply weapons from across the border.

The captured cell was backed by the chief of the Khalistan Zindabad Force who is based in Pakistan and his associates in Germany, the senior police official said, adding that local terror sleeper cells had been used to deliver funds and weapons from across the border.

Those arrested are currently in jail in Amritsar city. Pakistani officials have yet to respond to the claims.

Sunday’s incident assumes greater significance in the wake of ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan over New Delhi’s revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on 5 August.

Kashmir has been a bone of contention between the two countries since they gained freedom from British colonial rule in 1947.

Both India and Pakistan control part of Kashmir but claim it in full. They’ve also fought three wars since then, two of them over Kashmir.”

  8. Two police officers and another man are ‘deliberately’ rammed by a Mercedes driver at high speed while carrying out a routine roadside drugs check (dailymail, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7494255/Two-police-officers-man-deliberately-rammed-Mercedes-driver.html

“Two police officers and another man are in serious condition after they were rammed at high speed as they carried out a routine stop.

The officers, a man and woman, were detaining a man on suspected drugs offences when a Mercedes approached them at high speed, police said.

As the officers questioned the man on the roadside, they were rammed by the Mercedes in what police described as a deliberate act.

All three were taken to hospital with serious injuries, Sussex Police said.

The Mercedes driver escaped on foot.

A 20-year-old man believed to be the Mercedes driver was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The three men were rammed during a routine drugs check at the side of the A259 at Littlehampton in the early hours of Monday morning.

Police have appealed for two men who were passengers in the car the officers pulled over to come forward.

Assistant Chief Constable Julia Chapman said: ‘This is being investigated as a deliberate attack on two police officers in the course of carrying out their duties.

‘Their injuries, and that of the man they were with, whilst serious, are not believed to be life threatening.

‘Two passengers in the car remain outstanding and we urge the public to help us trace and bring to justice all of those involved.’

The incident occurred at the Bodyshop roundabout on the A259 at Littlehampton at approximately 1.05am.

  9. NY Times: Muslim Refugees ‘Distraught’ by Trump’s Immigration Reforms (breitbart, Sep 22, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/09/22/nyt-muslim-refugees-distraught-trump-immigration-reform/

“Muslim refugees living in the United States are “frustrated and distraught” over the prospect that President Donald Trump may further reduce the number of refugees resettled in the country every year.

A report by the New York Times details how Rohingya refugees — the Muslim-minority of Myanmar — are increasingly disappointed by Trump’s reduction of refugee resettlement because they hoped to bring their foreign family members and relatives to the U.S.

    The Times reports:

For the dozens of children like Hefzur [Rahman] who have been arriving from Myanmar without family, an initial expectation that their parents would join them has faded, leaving many of them frustrated and distraught. [Emphasis added]

“My dream is to bring my family here,” Hefzur said. “I’m afraid my mom and dad will die before I can touch them again.” [Emphasis added]

Another Rohingya refugee, 17-year-old Rohim Mohammod, told the Times he too wants to bring his siblings to the U.S.

“I would like to bring my brothers over here,” Mohammod said.

After five years of living in the U.S., Rohingya refugees are able to apply for naturalized American citizenship. Should they obtain citizenship, they are then allowed to bring an unlimited number of foreign relatives to the country through the process known as “chain migration,” which Rahman and Mohammod said they hope to do.

Trump is expected to announce the cap for Fiscal Year 2020 refugee resettlement sometime this week. This is merely a numerical limit and not a goal federal officials are supposed to reach.

Reports have circulated that Trump wants to follow through on his 2016 promise to zero out refugee admissions for 2020, as Breitbart News noted. The national security establishment and Defense Department officials, though, are pleading with Trump to admit more refugees next year.

Since October 1, 2018, more than 29,800 refugees have been admitted to the U.S., including less than 600 Rohingya refugees. Compare that to 2015 when former President Obama admitted more than 5,000 Rohingya refugees to the country.

Refugee resettlement to the U.S. costs American taxpayers about $1.8 billion a year and about $8.8 billion over the course of five years, research has revealed. Since 1980, the U.S. has admitted more than 3.5 million refugees, with nearly 100,000 refugees arriving in 2016 under Obama.”

  10. Islamic State Pair on Trial For 2016 Arson Attack Against Notre Dame Cathedral (breitbart, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/23/islamic-state-pair-on-trial-for-2016-arson-attack-against-notre-dame-cathedral/

“Before it was ravaged by fire, Notre Dame Cathedral was the target of a bungled terrorist plot by two French women who pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group.

They’re going on trial Monday in a special Paris court, for attempting to explode a vehicle laden with fuel-doused gas canisters in the shadow of the medieval monument in 2016. Six other people are also on trial for related terrorism charges.

The Notre Dame plot failed, and no one was hurt. But the women had been recruited by one of France’s most notorious jihadists, and prosecutors say the attempted explosion could have killed dozens of people in one of the French capital’s most touristed neighborhhoods. It came after a string of Islamic extremist attacks that deeply shook France and hardened its security posture.

Ines Madani, now 22, is considered the key player. She was just a teenager when she and Ornella Gilligmann joined a channel on social network Telegram run by French jihadist Rachid Kassim, according to court documents.

Kassim was central to French recruiting efforts for IS, prosecutors say, and was believed linked to a gruesome attack on a French priest inside his Normandy church and the killing of a French police couple at home in front of their child. Kassim moved to Syria in 2015, and during the summer of 2016 he multiplied his threats against France on social networks and released a guide detailing how followers should commit attacks. Among suggested methods: group stabbing or “filling a vehicle with gas cylinders and spraying them with fuel.”

Madani and Gilligmann tried to do just that, after sending Kassim videos pledging allegiance to IS, court documents say.

On Sept. 4, 2016, they parked a Peugeot carrying six gas canisters near Notre Dame, doused them with diesel fuel and tried to set them alight. But they failed, and fled.

Police quickly found their trail. The car belonged to Madani’s father, and the two women’s fingerprints and DNA were found on the gas canisters.

Gilligmann, already known to intelligence services for trying to reach Syria in 2014, was arrested two days later in southern France.

Madani tried to plot a new attack with help from Kassim and other women extremists. On Sept. 8, three of them took kitchen knives and attempted a rampage as police closed in.

The suspects face from 30 years to life in prison if convicted.

Madani “acknowledges responsibility” for plotting the Notre Dame attack and is expecting a conviction, her lawyer Laurent Pasquet Marinacce told The Associated Press. The lawyer said Madani was manipulated by Kassim and is “no longer radicalized at all. She has done a lot of self-examination.”

Kassim will be tried in absentia. An international arrest warrant was issued for him, but he was believed killed by a drone strike in 2017 around the Iraqi city of Mosul. U.S. authorities confirmed his death, but no proof of death was officially reported to the French courts.”

  11. Khan’s London: Hijabi Woman Racially Abuses Indian Man in Multicultural Capital (breitbart, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/23/hijabi-woman-racially-abuses-indian-man-multicultural-london/

“Police officers are investigating a viral video of a black hijabi woman launching a racist tirade against an Indian bus passenger in Britain’s multicultural capital of London.
Video footage of the incident, originally uploaded by a @guri.1001, was widely circulated on social media, and shows the woman screaming “You smell of curry you dumb b***h” at an Indian man thought to be in his twenties, and telling him to “get back to your f*****g Southall slum” in reference to a west London district in the Borough of Ealing.

Another woman, identified as her mother can be seen attempting to physically restrain her as she becomes violent, to which she responds “No, let me hit.”

According to witnesses, the tirade began after the woman’s mother began complaining to the bus driver that he was letting to many people on board, prompting the Indian male to ask her to stop arguing so the vehicle could continue on its journey.

Officers from the Roads and Transport Policing Command (RTPC) of the Metropolitan Police Force are now seeking “witnesses to the incident, or anyone who can provide information about the people involved”, according to an official statement.

“The investigation was launched after a video of the incident circulated on social media, and was reported in the press,” the force confirmed, noting that the incident is “believed to have happened on a 195 [bus] in the Hayes area of Hillingdon borough, on Saturday, 14 September” and that anyone with information should call them on the 101 non-emergency number quoting 0921546/19”

    https://www.breitbart.com/middle-east/2019/09/23/10-syrians-disguised-as-ukrainian-volleyballers-arrested-in-greece/

“Ten undocumented Syrian migrants who were disguised as a Ukrainian volleyball team were stopped and arrested on Sunday by Greek police.

All were arrested at Athens’ Eleftherios Venizelos airport after border security officials found the Ukrainian passports they were carrying had been reported stolen or lost. They also said the disguises being worn betrayed their true identities, DW reports.

The detainees were dressed in identical athletic uniforms, and carried identical sports bags as well as two volleyballs, police said.

After questioning, police determined that the men were not a volleyball team. They detained them and sent them to an examining magistrate to face charges of trying to illegally enter the country using stolen or lost travel documents.

The men were planning to travel to Switzerland and claim asylum, police said.

Migrants entering and leaving Greece often make great efforts to reach other destinations.

According to the latest official numbers, there are more than 26,600 asylum seekers in camps on Lesbos, Chios and Samos, the Greek islands at the forefront of the illegal migrant influx.”

“Indonesia’s counterterrorism squad on Monday arrested nine suspected militants accused of plotting a suicide bomb attack on police using high-explosive materials, police said.

Six people were arrested in Jakarta’s satellite city of Bekasi, two others in northern Jakarta and another in western Jakarta, said National Police spokesman Dedi Prasetyo.

He said the group of nine, aged between 18 and 28 and led by a militant cell leader, Abu Zee Ghurobah, are believed to be linked to Jemaah Anshorut Daulah, a local militant network affiliated with the Islamic State group.

“They have been preparing themselves to attack police with military-style training in several places,” Prasetyo said.

He said authorities defused a powerful bomb from one of the suspects, Muhammad Arshad, when they raided his house in northern Jakarta.

Separately, the North Jakarta police chief, Budhi Herdi Susianto, said they also found a goodbye letter written by Arshad, who allegedly planned an imminent suicide attack using the explosive at a police station.

Susianto said police seized a rifle, a gun, two knives, military-style uniforms, jihadi books and bomb devices from the suspects…”

“Egyptian security forces say police have killed 15 suspected militants in a shootout in the restive northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.

They say the shootout took place on Sunday when police raided the militants’ hideout west of the Mediterranean city of el-Arish.

Security officials say they found weapons and explosive materials in the hideout, and the bodies were taken to a nearby hospital for identification.

Separately, they say six security forces were wounded when an explosive device hit their vehicle in the nearby town Sheikh Zuweid.

Officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief the media.

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/india-pakistan-reactivated-militant-camps-65795774

“India’s army chief said Monday that Pakistan has reactivated terror camps in Pakistan-held Kashmir and about 500 militants are waiting to infiltrate into India.

Gen. Bipin Rawat didn’t provide any evidence to back his claims.

Senior officials at Pakistan’s foreign ministry denied the accusation. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

They said India’s government and military were “using false propaganda to implicate Pakistan for the domestic backlash to Indian repression in Indian-administered Kashmir.”

India has placed a curfew and other restrictions on people in its part of Kashmir since downgrading the special status of the disputed Himalayan region on Aug. 5.

The Press Trust of India news agency quoted the army chief as saying that “some action had been taken” by India’s air force “and now they (Pakistan) have got the people back there.”…”

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/greek-island-grapples-rising-number-migrants-65793998

“Security and municipal services on the Greek island of Lesbos will hold an emergency meeting Monday after administrators of a refugee camp said they were overwhelmed by the number of arrivals from nearby Turkey.

The camp at Moria on the Aegean Sea island began turning away new arrivals Friday as the number of people at the site exceeded 12,000, four times its intended capacity.

The rapidly rising numbers — the highest entering the European Union — have created the worst crisis on the island since the massive influx of refugees into Europe four years ago. Hundreds of migrants unable to find camp accommodation are already sleeping in the open or in tents.

The government has promised tougher sea patrolling and said it would seek additional international support, including resources from the EU border protection agency Frontex.

Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos at the weekend said the Greek armed forces would provide greater support to island coast patrols but did not give further details.

“Our actions must be planned so that our eyes and ears in the Aegean Sea, surveillance mechanisms and the personnel cooperate more intensively to tighten surveillance and possibly deterrence,” he said.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is expected to discuss the crisis at meetings this week with U.S. President Donald Trump and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.”

    • Hong Kong mops up after fresh violence, braces for October 1 anniversary

HONG KONG (Reuters) – Hong Kong cleaned up on Monday and train services in the city resumed, after another weekend of sometimes violent protests that saw pro-democracy activists vandalize a railway station and a shopping mall.

Nearly 50 people were arrested in the weekend clashes, police said, bringing the total number of arrested in the protests since June to 1,556.

The Chinese-rule territory is on edge ahead of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic on Oct. 1, with authorities eager to avoid scenes that could embarrass the central government in Beijing.

  20. Iran’s president warns America to ‘stay away’ as it unveils long range missiles that could strike US bases

Iran’s president has warned American and other foreign forces to “stay away” from the region, as Tehran paraded long-range missile capable of reaching American bases.

Hassan Rouhani said the presence of such troops in the Gulf has always brought “pain and misery”, in a speech made at an annual military parade to commemorate the war with Iraq.

Mr Rouhani spoke in response to an announcement made by the US on Friday that it was sending more troops to Saudi Arabia after an attack on Saudi oil facilities both nations blame on Iran.

  21. Saudi Arabia seeks action against Iran after oil attack, allies wary

DUBAI/RIYADH, Sept 22 (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia will seek to make a case at a global gathering in New York this week for concerted action to punish and deter arch-foe Iran after strikes on Saudi oil plants rattled global markets and exposed the kingdom’s vulnerability to attack.

However, even Riyadh’s main allies the United States and the United Arab Emirates have little appetite for a conventional military confrontation which may spark a war in the Gulf and drag in other oil producers, diplomats say.

As it tries to build a coalition, Riyadh is preparing to provide evidence to the U.N. General Assembly which it says will prove Iran was behind the Sept. 14 drone and missile assault which initially drastically affected its oil output, a view shared by Washington. Riyadh says Iranian weapons were launched from the north and that it is working to pinpoint the exact location.

Iran has denied any involvement and vowed to retaliate against even a limited military response. It has criticised the accusations as part of a campaign of “maximum pressure” launched by President Donald Trump on Tehran after he quit a 2015 nuclear pact last year and widened sanctions to choke off Iran’s oil exports. Riyadh wants to see more punitive action by the international community.

“This attack is a tipping point. Saudi Arabia will make the case this was a devastating blow and continued threat to the global economy,” a Gulf Arab source told Reuters on Sunday.

  22. A crackdown on Islam is spreading across China

    https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/other/a-crackdown-on-islam-is-spreading-across-china/ar-AAHE7uT

In China s northwest, the government is stripping the most overt expressions of the Islamic faith from a picturesque valley where most residents are devout Muslims. Authorities have destroyed domes and minarets on mosques, including one in a small village near Linxia, a city known as Little Mecca.

Similar demolitions have been carried out in Inner Mongolia, Henan and Ningxia, the homeland of China s largest Muslim ethnic minority, the Hui. In the southern province of Yunnan, three mosques were closed. From Beijing to Ningxia, officials have banned the public use of Arabic script.

This campaign represents the newest front in the Chinese Communist Party s sweeping rollback of individual religious freedoms, after decades of relative openness that allowed more moderate forms of Islam to blossom. The harsh crackdown on Muslims that began with the Uighurs in Xinjiang is spreading to more regions and more groups.

    • Video showing hundreds of shackled, blindfolded prisoners in China is ‘genuine’
Human rights groups say China is holding one million people, mostly ethnic Uighurs, at detention camps – a charge Beijing denies.

By Deborah Haynes, foreign affairs editor

Online footage purporting to show hundreds of blindfolded and shackled prisoners in a mostly Muslim region of China is believed to be authentic, a European security source has told Sky News.

The detainees are thought to be from China’s minority Uighur Muslims, the source said on Friday.

Human rights organisations accuse China of holding one million people, mostly ethnic Uighurs, at sprawling detention camps in Xinjiang province – a charge Beijing strongly denies.

  23. THE CONFERENCE THAT SIGNALS THE END OF THE LABOUR PARTY
It is the end of September and Brighton are once again hosting a Labour Party conference. I have been to a conference once before, two years ago and had endured a pretty uncomfortable experience. The conference in 2017 was the moment that I realised the problem of antisemitism in the party was spreading to the mainstream and that it would continue to do so for as long as Corbyn’s faithful could maintain their vice grip of the party mechanisms. The conference in 2019 provides the evidence that confirms the Labour Party is lost. Day one of the conference is finished and it is difficult to know which aspect of the suffocating atmosphere to focus on. The sheer weight of the hostility was like nothing I have ever experienced. Not even at a pro-Hezbollah rally and far beyond the conference of 2017. There is no way back from this. So much hate. And this was just day one. David Collier

  25. An actual, no-kidding reason for Trump’s review of military aid to Ukraine
    By J.E. Dyer September 23, 2019

What a difference two weeks makes. That short a time ago, no one outside Washington had heard about the rumor-mongered version of a misnamed “whistleblower” allegation: that Trump tried to strong-arm Ukraine to investigate the Biden family’s activities there, by threatening Ukraine’s military aid funding. The only thing the folks outside a few privileged corners of D.C. knew was that military aid to Ukraine had been slow-rolled since early July, and was under review.

But two weeks ago, the folks outside D.C. had every opportunity to know why the funds were under review. So, for that matter, did the folks inside D.C.

Not only that: the review the Ukraine assistance funds were under was a source of indignation against the Trump administration. It was a great reason to be mad at Trump; it just wasn’t the same reason now being turned into a melodramatic script about extortion, high crimes, misdemeanors, and impeachment.

But that was two weeks ago. Indignation wasn’t fanned high enough, and the late reporting languished. The biggest reason it languished, we can assume, is that after reviewing the Ukraine funding, the Trump administration decided to make no changes to it, and has allowed it to resume in the current fiscal year.

  26. Sheila Jackson Lee and the .50-cal AR-15, ‘as heavy as 10 boxes’
    By J.E. Dyer September 22, 2019

Sometimes you wonder why Democratic politicians even bother. It seems doubly incredible given that Sheila Jackson Lee represents a district in Texas.

And it’s central Houston, not Austin (where you’re more likely to find refugees from California who’ve never known anything about firearms in their lives). Rep. Jackson Lee is bound to have constituents who know an AR from a .30-06, and can tell you without bothering to ponder the matter that by far the most common AR-15 round is a .223, with a specialized (let us even say a very specialized) .50 caliber AR-15 round requiring a modified receiver.

There are other things her constituents probably know, such as that one of the principal advantages of the AR-15 is its comparatively light weight (at about 7 pounds). (A .30-06 will probably run in the 8-9 pound range.) Although the AR’s lighter weight and contributing attributes mean using it with larger-caliber rounds takes getting used to, and is not for everyone.

But I digress. Ms. Jackson Lee doesn’t, so let’s hear her out. Just start at the beginning; it’s about 28 seconds in.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/09/22/sheila-jackson-lee-and-the-50-cal-ar-15-as-heavy-as-10-boxes/

    • When I commented on Rep. Lee’s statements a few days ago I forgot about the .50 Beowulf, it is a .223 case necked up to accept a .50 inch bullet. I think the velocity is about 1800 FPS and as JE hints at it has a massive recoil. I forget why it was developed but it does make a real good brush round if you can stand the recoil.

  27. US Special Services Involved in Daesh Militants’ Transfer to Afghanistan – Russian Security Agency (sputniknews, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201909231076868911-us-special-services-involved-in-daesh-militants-transfer-to-afghanistan—russian-security-agency/

“On Monday, the Russian city of Kazan is hosting the 16th meeting of the leadership of intelligence services under the chairmanship of Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) head Sergey Naryshkin. The participants are set to discuss points related to counter external forces that attempt to influence the situation in the CIS.

US special services are involved in transferring Daesh* militants to northern regions of Afghanistan with the aim of destabilising the situation on the borders with the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), Sergey Beseda, the head of the Russian Federal Security Service’s international relations department, said on Monday.

“We have received information about the US special services’ involvement in the transferring of Daesh fighters to Afghan northern regions to destabilise the situation on the CIS southern borders and later in Central Asia,” Beseda said at the meeting.

According to an official, the security agencies and intelligence services of the CIS countries must identify threats at an early stage to provide security to the CIS states.

The US has been accused numerous times of providing various forms of support to Daesh and other terrorist groups operating in the region.

In 2018 Chief of Iranian General Staff Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri accused the US of transporting Daesh terrorists to Afghanistan after they were defeated in Syria and Iraq in order to maintain tension in the region, using it as an excuse to stay there longer.”

  28. Was the Muslim Migrant Airplane Mechanic Who Sabotaged a Plane Really Just a Disgruntled Union Man?
BY ROBERT SPENCER SEPTEMBER 22, 2019CHAT 35 COMMENTS
    American Airlines
(Image by F. Muhammad from Pixabay)
Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani, a Muslim migrant from Iraq who up until recently was a plane mechanic for American Airlines at Miami International Airport (MIA), was, he said, so proud to be a Union Man that he tried to murder 150 people because of a union dispute. That was his initial story, anyway, and everyone bought it – after all, who ever heard of a Muslim being involved in trying to sabotage aircraft for any other reason?

Alani was arrested “on a sabotage charge accusing him of disabling a navigation system on a flight with 150 people aboard before it was scheduled to take off from Miami International Airport earlier this summer.” He explained that he did this because he was “upset” over the ongoing impasse between his mechanics’ union and American Airlines, which has “affected him financially.”

As always, there was absolutely nothing, nothing whatsoever, for members of the public to be concerned about here. Alani stated “that his intention was not to cause harm to the aircraft or its passengers.” Oh good. All he wanted to do was “cause a delay or have the flight canceled in anticipation of obtaining overtime work.”

Well, that’s reasonable. Let’s not rush to judgment here. After all, who among us hasn’t exposed hundreds of people to the risk of a terrifying, fiery death in order to get some overtime hours?

But then disturbing details began to emerge that cast Alani in a very different light. U.S. Magistrate Judge Chris McAliley imposed pretrial detention on Alani after prosecutors showed that Alani’s brother back home in Iraq may be involved with the Islamic State (ISIS), and may even be a member, as well as the fact that Alani himself may have a soft spot for that gang of beheaders, rapists, and murderers: according to Local 10 ABC News, “Islamic State group propaganda video showing graphic murders was discovered on Abdul-Majeed Marouf Ahmed Alani’s cellphone.”

Even worse, according to the Associated Press, Alani made statements about wishing that Allah would use his “divine powers” to harm non-Muslims. This is ominous because in the Qur’an, the Muslims are the executors of Allah’s wrath: “Fight them; Allah will punish them by your hands and will disgrace them and give you victory over them and satisfy the breasts of a believing people, and remove the fury in the believers’ hearts” (Qur’an 9:14-15).

Not only that, but Alani “also recently sent a $700 wire transfer to someone in Iraq — where he has extended family,” and “traveled to Iraq in March but did not disclose that to authorities after his arrest.”

McAliley, with admirable understatement, told Alani: “You may be very sympathetic to terrorists. That’s very disconcerting.” Yeah, that’s one word for it.

Alani himself, meanwhile, said: “Out of my evil side, I wanted to do something.” Does that mean that Alani thinks that the god of the Qur’an and Sunnah is evil?

In any case, Alani has not been charged with terrorism. Apparently the authorities are still going with the Disgruntled Union Man story. That may change, but the fact that it hasn’t already may reflect their wariness of charges of “Islamophobia.” For Alani has some experience with playing the victimhood card that is so beloved of Islamic supremacists in the United States: AP reported that he “was born in Iraq and became a U.S. citizen in 1992, sued Alaska Airlines for discrimination based on national origin. A judge dismissed the lawsuit for lack of evidence.” Also, in court Alani “spoke to Magistrate Judge John O’Sullivan through an Arabic interpreter.” Yet “according to American, Alani is proficient in English.”

All this suggests that if there is anything Alani has learned since he migrated from Iraq, it is that victimhood pays. Alani seems to be well aware that Muslims are among the Left’s pet victim groups, and that consequently, if he can convince the jury that he is a poor pawn caught between his union and American Airlines, struggling mightily to make a living in the cold, Islamophobic Amerikkka of Donald Trump, he may get off easy for his attempted sabotage, however many deaths may have resulted from his actions, and however many gruesome Islamic State videos he has on his phone.

    He may be right.

  29. UK Govt Blocks ‘Culturally Insensitive’ Ban on Cat and Dog Meat (breitbart, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/23/politically-correct-uk-govt-blocks-culturally-insensitive-ban-cat-dog-meat/

“The British government’s Ministry of Justice had blocked a “culturally insensitive” move to ban cat meat and dog meat, fearing it could offend people in Asian countries.

Cabinet Office chief Michael Gove drew up plans to outlaw the possession of cat and dog meat over the while he was still Secretary of State at the Department for the Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), according to reports.

However, the move is understood to have been blocked by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), currently headed by former solicitor-general Robert Buckland, after “nervous civil servants” suggested it was “culturally insensitive” and liable to cause offence in Asian countries where cat and dog meat consumption is more common.

The MoJ’s reasoning came as something of a surprise to Giles Watling, a Tory MP who has championed a ban, who pointed out “It’s not culturally insensitive because we’re not telling them what to do – we’re just telling them what we do” in comments to The Sun.

“Dogs are our companion animals. We do not eat them, and that is a very important message to send to the rest of the world,” he asserted.

Animal welfare campaigners in Asia itself have also stressed the importance of Western governments setting an example, with Kike Yuen of the World Dog Alliance explaining that “legislation against dog meat in UK would provide us with strength to continue our work in Asia, as the UK could influence other countries to stop dog meat consumption” in December 2018.

“Most of them usually refused to do so with the excuse that there is no such law in Western countries.”

Britain’s former colony of Hong Kong, now a semi-autonomous but increasingly repressed province of the People’s Republic of China, is one of the few jurisdictions in the Far East which has banned dog meat, as has the independent Republic of China — commonly known as Taiwan.

“We currently have some of the strongest animal welfare laws in the world,” claimed a Ministry of Justice spokesman in response to the controversy.

“The government is currently considering whether any changes are needed in this area in the UK and will set out any plans in due course,” they added non-commitally — language which generally indicates that there are no plans to act on a particular issue.”

  30. UK Labour Members Want to Sack the Queen, Don’t Support National Anthem, Borders (breitbart, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/23/labour-members-want-sack-queen-dont-support-anthem-borders/

“Over 60 per cent of Labour members want to sack the Queen, only 25 per cent support national borders, and just 15 per cent are proud of Britain’s history.

In a major YouGov poll commissioned by Ian Austin MP, who left the Labour Party and denounced its lurch to the far left after a series of antisemitism scandals — for which the party is currently under investigation — Labour members were asked their view on a range of views on issues from abolishing the monarchy to nuclear disarmament. Both policies received overwhelming support.

Pollsters found that the Jeremy Corbyn-led opposition party now holds views well outside the British mainstream. For example:

50 per cent said they would feel “angry, embarrassed, or bored” if asked to sing the national anthem, compared to just 20 per cent who would feel “proud or happy”.
48 per cent agreed “Nations should remove borders and people should decide where they want to live”, compared to just 25 per cent who disagreed
43 per cent were “ashamed” of Britain’s history over the past 300 years, compared to just 15 per cent who were “proud”

68 per cent of Labour members said that “The foreign policies of the British government and Western allies like the USA” were either more to blame or equally to blame for radical Islamic terrorism as “groups like Al Qaeda and ISIS”.

More respondents also blamed the British government for The Troubles in Northern Ireland than blamed the Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) terror network — 32 per cent to 27 per cent — despite the fact that a clear majority of people in the British province backed the Union with Great Britain over unification with the Republic of Ireland in a 1973 referendum.

They may be taking their lead from the party’s top leaders, Jeremy Corbyn and Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer John McDonnell, who both back surrendering Ulster to the Republic in its entirety, with the latter having praised IRA members use of “the bullet and the bomb” in their campaign.

Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott, who would be the Secretary of State responsible for policing and security under a Corbyn government, has also backed the terrorists, opining that “every defeat of the British state is a victory for all of us” in a 1984 interview in which she also described the Province as an “enclave of white supremacist ideologies” and said she “couldn’t identify as British” despite being born in London.

Perhaps more worrying in terms of its immediate implications is Labour members’ attitude towards government control of the free press, with 79 per cent saying they would support “a future Labour government passing new laws limiting who can own national newspapers”, compared to only 13 per cent who said they would impose such a move.

51 per cent also said they would support “a future Labour government taking greater control of broadcasting media”, compared to 40 per cent opposed.

Ian Austin said his party had “been poisoned by a culture of extremism and intolerance” under Jeremy Corbyn, and that it had become a “destructive force”.

However, the poll also appeared to show that the concerns of now former members like Austin about antisemitism, in particular, have not been taken on board, with 66 per cent insisting the party does not have a “serious problem with antisemitism”, compared to 23 per cent who agreeing that it does.”

  31. Labour to Back Giving Voting Rights to Foreigners in National Elections (breitbart, Sep 23, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/23/labour-back-giving-voting-rights-national-elections-foreigners/

“In a move that would demolish a foundation of the British democratic system, Labour is set to back giving foreign nationals the right to vote in General Elections.

Currently, EU citizens and other foreigners living legally in the United Kingdom can vote in local and European Parliament elections, while only Britons, Irish citizens, and those from the Commonwealth can vote in national General Elections.

According to the Independent, the Labour Party will commit to backing extending the voting franchise to all those foreign citizens with residency rights, which the progressive-liberal news website says “could have a seismic impact on a future Brexit referendum”.

In the 2016 referendum, only those who could vote in national elections could vote on the UK’s membership of the EU. However, if the country’s voting franchise is extended and there is a General Election before Brexit is delivered, the some three-million EU citizens living in Britain could swing an election victory for Labour. If a Labour government then holds a second referendum on EU membership, those European citizens would hold power over Britons on the future of their country’s place in the world by forcing a vote to Remain.

Organised by the Labour Campaign for Free Movement, the motion to “extend equal rights to vote to all UK residents” is set to be voted on during Labour Party conference in Brighton on Monday, and if backed by members would become party policy.

It would also be put in place if Labour comes to power after Brexit, with the party set to abolish any laws that restricted immigration based on skills and the country’s need, the closure of all immigration detention centres for illegals and foreign criminals set for deportation, and “scrap all Hostile Environment measures”.

Labour Campaign for Free Movement said in a statement that it is “fundamentally wrong” that non-citizens cannot vote in national elections, saying the party “must be the champion of migrants’ rights in British politics”.

“We must not allow working class people to be divided on the basis of where they are from,” they added, continuing: “So at this Labour Party conference and beyond, we will support moves to extend equal rights to vote to all UK residents. And we will support moves to put this extension of the franchise into Labour’s next general election manifesto.”

According to the group, the plans are backed by the far-left Labour grassroots Momentum.

American Kate Andrews, associate director of the Institute of Economic Affairs, called the motion a “terrible idea”, saying: “To get public buy-in for liberal immigration policies, you need to draw a clear line between residency and citizenship, and protect the distinct rights of the latter (voting being at the top of the list).”

While UKIP member of the Welsh Assemble Neil Hamilton said: “This is utter lunacy! Only British citizens should be allowed to vote in elections.

“Labour have cemented themselves as the anti-Britain party.””

Still a leftist white kid was caught on camera telling a black officer, ‘F*** you, pig!’

Amid Friday’s worldwide climate strike, our Antifa heroes in Portland, Oregon, reportedly used the occasion to see what kind of violence and mayhem they could get away with.

According to independent conservative journalist Andy Ngo, a group of Antifa members — per usual dressed in black with masks and hoods — threw rocks and other projectiles at officers protecting an ICE facility.

But while the violent leftists have enjoyed anonymity and a relatively free pass to hurt anyone or anything they please, this incident turned out a little differently.

The below clip shows what happens when bullies experience aggression tossed back in their faces. (Content warning: Language):

It appears the officers who chased after the fleeing Antifa members represented both Portland Police and the Department of Homeland Security.

One leftist detractor in the clip was seen cursing out officers while — to his credit — not wearing a mask. The red-haired, white kid actually told a black officer, “F*** you, pig!”

But when another officer ran up and told him to back up, the retreating kid protested, “Stop threatening me!”

Finally backed up to the street corner, he exclaimed from a safe distance, “DHS, you f***ing Gestapo piece of s**t!”

Another part of the clip showed a rather large Antifa member in handcuffs while officers searched him.
