Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  2. Germany: “We’re fed up” – Political leftist bar expels asylum seekers+++
There were massive problems with asylum seekers in a bar in Augsburg this weekend. “We are sick and tired of it! It’s no fun anymore with us. I am speechless. The boys are resistant to advice, highly aggressive and no longer bearable for us”, the landlady of the left-wing trendy pub “Kreuzweise” posted in a meanwhile deleted Facebook article.Tatjana Dogan’s bar is supposed to be a place where everyone is welcome – no matter what gender, age, skin colour or dress style, the landlady declares to the newspaper “Augsburger Allgemeine”. That could change now, because on Saturday the police had to move in.According to the “Kreuzweise” landlady, the trouble was caused by a group of about 25 African asylum seekers. The men manifested themselves unpleasantly several times in her pub, not only because of theft, but also because of harassment of women and aggressive behaviour. When the bar closed on the weekend and nothing was served anymore, the trouble had really started. After they had left the bar, several of them were standing outside with glass bottles in their hands. This was reported by the police.A 23-year-old smashed the bottom of his bottle on a house wall and threatened with the broken bottle. According to police reports, the 23-year-old did not release the bottle until the police threatened to use firearms. But he still punched one of the people involved – 19 years old – in the face with his fist.According to police, all those involved were men from Gambia who live in an accommodation for asylum seekers in Donauwörth. For the time being, they will not be allowed to enter the Augsburg bar.According to the newspaper, in recent weeks there have been more and more large groups of African asylum seekers in the streets who wanted to visit bars and clubs. There were frequent discussions with bouncers because most of the pubs did not allow larger groups of refugees in.

  3. Pakistan Reactivates Seven Terror Launch Pads Along Line of Control – Intel Report (sputniknews, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/asia/201909111076774362-pakistan-reactivates-seven-terror-launch-pads-along-line-of-control—intel-report/

“Pakistan is preparing to send across about 275 terrorists into India-administered Jammu and Kashmir through the border that separates the two nations in the region, inputs from Indian intelligence agencies have stated.

At least seven terror launch pads have been set up on the Pakistani side of Kashmir along the Line of Control (LoC), which exists as a de-facto boundary bifurcating India and Pakistan, intelligence sources are cited as saying.

The terrorists, including Afghan and Pashtun mercenaries, are attempting to infiltrate Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir, most of them through northern Kashmir’s Gurez sector, the sources added.

The development comes as the Paris-based terrorism finance watchdog Financial Action Task Force (FATF) is meeting this week in Bangkok. It is set to review Islamabad’s progress in meeting its anti-terror commitments.

It is to make a final decision in October on whether or not to place Pakistan on the global blacklist, which could economically cripple Islamabad in terms of securing funding from abroad.

The daily claimed to be in possession of documents that suggest around 80 terrorists are camping near the Gurez sector, 60 in Machhal, 50 in Karnah, 40 in Keran, 20 in Uri, 15 in Naugam, and 10 in Rampur.

Pakistan has allegedly been pushing foreign mercenaries into Indian-governed Kashmir since the early 1990s. India has reportedly time and again neutralised these infiltrations through aggressive counter-terror operations.

After New Delhi revoked Jammu and Kashmir’s special status on 5 August, Islamabad upped its Kashmir-centred rhetoric at all forums available to it, both at home and abroad. It has also suspended diplomatic and trade engagements with India.

New Delhi says the decision to revoke the region’s special status is an internal matter.

The nuclear-armed neighbours have fought two of their three wars over Kashmir since gaining independence from British colonial rule in 1947.”

…there is no mystery about what is currently transpiring at Priory School in Lewes, East Sussex, UK. The Left is simply continuing its Maoist Cultural revolution — just as it is faithfully emulating the ingredients of Sharia that it treasures most. In its hatred for humans, and in its unquenchable lust to control who and what they are, the self-appointed social redeemers of our time are now waging war on the femininity and freedom of young girls in the United Kingdom. 5. Jihadi Trace Suspected in Monumental Tax Fraud in Denmark (sputniknews, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201909111076773825-jihadi-trace-suspected-in-monumental-tax-fraud-in-denmark/

“The scammers who allegedly relieved the Danish Treasury of millions of dollars in unpaid VAT abused Denmark’s “trust-based society” and merely used “an open door”, an expert in money laundering said, warning of similar crimes.

A comprehensive review of court documents and bankruptcies compiled by the Danish dailies Dagbladet Information and Jyllands-Posten has unveiled a large-scale VAT scam for millions of kroner, involving, among others, a group of jihadists and terrorist supporters.

A total of 14 businessmen have played key roles in a network that accumulated a debt to the Danish Treasury of over DKK 800 million (about $120 million) in unpaid VAT, the newspapers reported. The extent of their net debt to the German and Swedish treasuries remains unknown. At least two of the men are jihadists linked to al-Qaeda* and Daesh* respectively.

The companies with which the two jihadists were personally involved both went bankrupt with a tax debt of at least DKK 97 million ($14.5 million) in VAT and more than DKK 66 million (almost $10 million) to private creditors. In addition, a number of so-called “Syrian warriors”, a euphemism for jihadists used by the Danish press, have been deployed as straw men in companies allegedly used for fraud, where goods were imported to Denmark without VAT that was later charged to Danish customers.

While no concrete evidence of money transfers to terrorist groups has been unearthed so far, experts fear that a large portion of the yields from the scam may have been used to support the terrorist cause.

“It is double as serious if a scam goes through and the money is used to undermine our society”, Lars Krull, a senior adviser at Aalborg University and expert in money laundering, said. “It is my opinion that the money has not disappeared somewhere to to make a few people rich. My impression is that the money has disappeared because it was intended for something. And when I say something, I think of everything from warfare to supporting soldiers somewhere”.

Denmark is a “trust-based society”, and the perpetrators merely “used an open door”, Krull concluded, warning that there is no defence against this type of fraud, as the scammers later simply leave Denmark altogether.

Professor Tom Kirchmaier, a researcher of financial crime at Copenhagen Business School and the London School of Economics, found it strange that the authorities had not intervened in a timely manner.

“If you are to stop the jihadists, you have to stop their financing. And this starts with stopping the scams”, Kirchmaier ventured.

Police Inspector Thomas Anderskov Riis assured that the State Prosecutor for Serious Economic and International Crime (SØIK) takes all cases of VAT fraud and possible terrorist financing seriously, yet refused to comment on the case.

According to a Danish Police Intelligence Service’s (PET) assessment, at least 150 people have left the country for the Middle East to join the jihadists’ cause since 2012. About 40 of them are believed to still be in the region, while about a third of the Danish jihadists are believed to have returned. Over a dozen have been indicted in Denmark so far.

  6. Sweden’s New Foreign Minister Pledges More ‘Feminist Policy’ (sputniknews, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201909111076773422-swedens-new-foreign-minister-pledges-more-feminist-policy/

“Sweden’s “feminist foreign policy” pursued by its previous Foreign Minister Margot Wallström has sparked a lot of international criticism and resulted in badly damaged relations with several countries, including both Israel and Arab states.

Ann Linde has been named Sweden’s new foreign minister, following the resignation of Margot Wallström, who is credited with masterminding Sweden’s “feminist” foreign policy.

“Ann Linde has worked with foreign policy for many years, she has solid knowledge and a large network of contacts all over the world”, Prime Minister Stefan Löfven said, presenting the new apointee, as quoted by Aftonbladet.

Like her predecessor, Linde is a veteran Social Democrat. Most recently she held the position of minister for foreign trade.

“I feel that my role now is to bring forward a foreign policy that contributes to peace, freedom and security. We will continue to pursue a feminist foreign policy”, Ann Linde said, paying respects to Wallström. “I have just launched a feminist trade policy myself”, she declared, suggesting that women contribute to more sustainable agreements.

Unlike her predecessor, who was no stranger to international controversy, Linde has maintained a lower profile. Still, she attracted criticism for wearing a headscarf during a government visit to Tehran in 2017.

Addressing the criticism, Linde said that she is prepared to go against her convictions for the sake of diplomacy, adding that it’s the price you have to pay.

Linde admitted that one of the difficult tasks facing her is to improve Swedish relations with Israel, which have been very strained, not least as a direct result of the her predecessor’s feminist policy.

“I think it is very important that Sweden has good relations with both Israel and Palestine. I was recently there and talked to many politicians that I know for many years on both sides. I really want to work for that”, Linde said.

Linde’s appointment has been hailed as a wise move even by the Social Democrats traditional rivals, the centre-right Moderate Party.

“So far I have seen Ann Linde a serious free trade friend in her work, so I believe, given the alternatives Stefan Löfven had, it was a wise choice”, Moderate leader Ulf Kristersson said.

Linde was announced after Wallström stepped down last Friday from the post she has held since 2014, citing family reasons.

The departing foreign minister gained international notoriety by damaging relations with Israel and the Arab world alike. In 2014, Wallström’s very first step in office was to recognise Palestine as a state, which immediately soured Stockholm’s relations with Israel. Subsequently, Wallström was declared persona non grata in Israel for backing an investigation into whether Palestinian assailants were victims of “extrajudicial killings”.

She also sparked a diplomatic spat with Saudi Arabia by slamming its human rights record and calling its methods “medieval”.

Morocco became yet another point of friction, as Sweden moved to recognise Western Sahara, a disputed former Spanish province partially under Moroccan control, as an independent republic. However, the Swedish government later reversed the recognition, following political and economic pressure from Rabat.

Wallström also came under fire for what Ulf Cahn of the pro-Israel organisation Keren Hayesod called “uncritical support of the Palestinian authority and UNRWA”. Sweden is one of the largest net contributors to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, edging out even the US and donating five times more than its neighbour Denmark and a whole 12 times more than Finland.

?Wallström and Löfven were also criticised for never making good on the previous promise to recognise the Armenian genocide of 1915.”

  7. Top Anti-Terror Chief Blames Press Coverage for ‘Exacerbating’ Terrorism (breitbart, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/11/top-anti-terror-chief-blames-press-coverage-exacerbating-terrorism/

“Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu of the Metropolitan police force said that the “relentless” reporting on extremist attacks could be promoting terrorism.

Speaking at a counter-terrorism conference in Israel, Mr Basu claimed in comments reported by The Telegraph that “Relentless media coverage of terrorist events is understandable given the public interest, but may exacerbate the problem. I am concerned that both social and mainstream media unwittingly amplify the threat.

“I don’t seek to undermine press freedoms – they are important – but I do want to work with them to understand if their reporting style can help prevent, not promote, terrorism.”

Mr Basu was criticised in July for seemingly undermining press freedom when he told journalists that publishing leaked diplomatic memos, in the wake of the the Kim Darroch affair, may be a “criminal matter”.

The assistant commissioner is widely tipped to be the next head of London’s Scotland Yard — which also has responsibilities for coordinating counter-terrorist activity nationwide — departed from the accepted position that terrorism needs to be defeated through intelligence and policing, by telling The Guardian last month that extremism needs to be fought also through “policies that go towards more social inclusion, more social mobility and more education”.

Exploring what he believes makes some people are more ‘vulnerable’ to recruitment by terrorist groups than others, he said: “It might be everything from high anxiety, to lack of confidence, lack of education, things that may have happened to them when they are young, bullying, racism, bigotry, lack of opportunity, early experiences with law enforcement even, domestic violence.”

In further remarks, he said that Muslims should not be expected to “assimilate” into British culture, and in a separate interview said that if someone made critical comments about the burqa — as Prime Minister Boris Johnson had done — “they wouldn’t be recruited into policing”.

Saying that London’s Metropolitan Police Service “prided ourselves” on being “inclusive” and “diverse”, he told the newspaper: “What we must not do at any point, now or in the future, is lower our standards in terms of integrity and professionalism, diversity, inclusion.””

  8. Tensions as Iran Detains Two British-Australian Tourists (breitbart, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/11/tensions-as-iran-detains-two-british-australian-tourists/

“Two women who are dual British-Australian citizens and an Australian man have been detained in Iran, one of them sentenced to 10 years in prison, Australia’s government and media said Wednesday.

Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said it was providing consular assistance to the families of all three. The department said it could not comment further due to privacy obligations.

The department also urged Australians to follow its travel advice, which includes a warning that foreigners risk arbitrary detention in Iran.

A British-Australian blogger and her Australian boyfriend were detained 10 weeks ago while traveling through Asia, The Times newspaper in London reported.

A British-Australian academic who studied at Cambridge University and was lecturing at an Australian university was detained separately and sentenced to 10 years in prison, the newspaper reported. The newspaper said she was being held in solitary confinement but it did not know what she had been convicted of doing.

The lecturer has been behind bars for almost a year, Australian Broadcasting Corp. reported.

The Australian government, the newspaper and the ABC have not released names.

The three are held in Tehran’s Evin prison, where British Iranian Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, 41, has been detained since 2016 on spying charges, the newspaper reported.

The women are thought to be the first British passport holders who do not also have Iranian nationality to have been imprisoned by Tehran in recent years, the newspaper said.

The blogger was being held in the same ward for female political prisoners as Zaghari-Ratcliffe, the newspaper reported.

Iranian authorities told the blogger she was being held as part of a plan to facilitate a prisoner swap with Australia, the newspaper said, citing an anonymous source with knowledge of the cases.

The couple were in Iran as part of a trip that started in Australia three years ago, the paper reported.

ABC reported the two cases were not connected.

There was no immediate comment Wednesday from Iranian officials, nor state media. Cases involving dual nationals typically end up in closed-door hearings of Iran’s Revolutionary Court, where former detainees say they had no opportunity to defend themselves against spying charges or offer evidence.

Analysts and family members of dual nationals and others detained in Iran long have said hard-liners in the Islamic Republic’s security agencies use the prisoners as bargaining chips in negotiations with the West. A U.N. panel in 2018 described “an emerging pattern involving the arbitrary deprivation of liberty of dual nationals” in Iran, which Tehran denied.

A prisoner exchange in January 2016 that freed Washington Post journalist Jason Rezaian and three other Iranian-Americans also saw the U.S. make a $400 million cash delivery to Iran the same day, which involved money from a weapons sale in the era of the late Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi.

Several British nationals with Iranian backgrounds are similarly held as Iran and Britain have been discussing the possible release of some 400 million pounds held by London since the 1979 Islamic Revolution for a tank purchase that never happened.

It’s unclear what Australia would offer in return, though the 2016 prisoner swap saw Iranians held in the U.S. similarly released. Several Americans remain held in Iran now as well.

Detentions of those with Western ties have spiked in the past around sensitive times in Iran. Tensions between Iran and the U.S. remain high over Tehran’s unraveling 2015 nuclear deal with world powers, which President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew America from over a year ago. Recently, Iran has broken the deal’s limits on enrichment, its uranium stockpile and the use of advanced centrifuges, trying to pressure Europe to offer it a way to sell its crude oil on the international market despite U.S. sanctions.

Australia has advised its citizens to “reconsider your need to travel” to Iran, the highest warning on a four-tier scale after “do not travel” to a country.

Britain and Australia last month signed onto a U.S.-led maritime security mission to protect international shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, where Iran’s recent seizures of vessels has raised tensions with the West.”

  9. French Judge Expresses Concern over Juror Corruption in No-Go Paris Suburbs (breitbart, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/09/11/french-judge-concern-juror-corruption-no-go-paris-suburbs/

“The president of the Assize court in the Paris suburb of Bobigny has expressed concerns that corrupt juries could hinder criminal cases across the Seine-Saint-Denis area.

Assize court president Philippe Jean-Draeher made his concerns known in an internal note obtained by French newspaper Le Parisien which reports that the judge is worried about organised gangs influencing and corrupting jurors to acquit suspects in serious cases.

“Very quickly, when speaking to jurors, an almost unanimous tendency appeared, to refuse the guilt of some defendants,” Jean-Draeher wrote and added that some of the acquittals were “totally unfounded”.

The note comes after a jury of seven men and one woman acquitted suspects in a serious violent kidnapping case connected to drug trafficking in which the victim was tortured for 36 hours by being beaten, burned, and nearly drowned in Seine-Saint-Denis earlier this year.

The verdict in the case had even managed to be leaked before it was read in court. An investigation into the jurors on corruption charges led to six indictments, including one of the jurors.

Among those indicted were two men, said to be close associates of one of the suspects in the case. They are accused of intimidating one of the jurors and are said to have contacted the juror at a local shisha bar during the trial and knew each other from a local mosque.

The heavily-migrant populated Seine-Saint-Denis area, which contains an estimated 400,000 illegal migrants, is well-known for several extremely violent criminal cases in recent years.

Last year, three African men were arrested after assaulting a man in the suburb of Clichy-sous-Bois. The men proceeded to bite off pieces of his lip and ear in an apparent act of cannibalism.

In August, a server at a restaurant in Noisy-le-Grand was fatally shot by a man who allegedly murdered the waiter for taking too long to make a sandwich.”

  10. ASHURA 2019

India: Shia Muslims mark Ashura by self-flagellating in Hyderabad

Thousands of Shia Muslims marked Ashura in the Indian city of Hyderabad on Tuesday.

Worshippers engaged in self-flagellation during a procession, in what is consider a symbolic act of mourning the killing of Imam Hussein, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, in 680AD. The men chanted, beat their chests and whipped themselves with chains bearing blades, often until they bled.

Ashura falls on the 10th of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar. It is usually marked with mourning rituals and passion plays re-enacting Hussein’s martyrdom.

    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/czech-leader-interested-reversal-recognizing-kosovo-65534615

“Czech President Milos Zeman says he wants to know if his country can reverse its recognition of Serbia’s former province Kosovo as an independent nation.

On his second day visiting Serbia, Zeman criticized Kosovo for a second time. The predominantly ethnic Albanian nation split from Serbia in 2008 after a war.

More than 100 countries around the word recognize Kosovo’s declaration of independence, including 23 European Union member nations.

Serbia refuses to do so, along with Russia and China.

Zeman said on Tuesday he dislikes Kosovo. On Wednesday, he said he would assemble Czech constitutional experts to ask if it is possible to change the Czech Republic’s position.

He says he is “no dictator, unfortunately” and won’t act unilaterally.

“German authorities have arrested two Syrian men on suspicion of transferring large amounts of money abroad that might have been used to fund extremist activity.

German news agency dpa reported Wednesday that the men, ages 34 and 37, are suspected of being part of a criminal network that earned commissions for sending six-figure sums abroad.

Dpa says 11 people are under investigation. Police and prosecutors searched 16 locations in the northern states of Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg Western-Pomerania and Hamburg on Wednesday.

The news agency quoted Flensburg chief prosecutor Ulrike Stahlmann-Liebelt as saying authorities are also investigating whether there are indications of “terror financing.””

  14. As NRA membership wanes, America’s largest black gun group is thriving

The country’s largest and best known gun rights association, the NRA, is losing board members amid a spate of deadly mass shootings. But another, lesser-known gun organization is thriving: the National African American Gun Association, the largest minority gun group in the country.

The group was founded by Phillip Smith, who fondly remembers the first time he fired his 9 mm pistol at a gun range.

“I felt free,” Smith said. “I had a chance to kind of have some power in my hands.”

Smith formed the first chapter of the National African American Gun Association, or NAAGA, in Atlanta.

“I didn’t think I’d get more than 30 people…” Smith said. But in just five years, NAAGA has started 75 chapters with more than 30,000 members, over 90% of whom are black.

“We have folks from every walk of life,” Smith said. “Black doctors, gay, straight, Republicans, Democrats. You name it, we have it … We’re not monolithic in why we’re all here. We have different reasons.”

When asked why the members didn’t just join the NRA, Smith said that “the NRA is good for some people that are having that perspective. Our perspective is for black folks.”

  15. New Jersey Will Refuse to Do Business with Banks, Retailers that Resist Stricter Gun-Control Measures

New Jersey’s Democratic governor, Phil Murphy, is expected to sign an executive order Tuesday that will leverage the state’s purchasing power to coerce gun retailers, manufacturers, and financial institutions to comply with a more stringent gun-control regime.

Under the executive order, the state, which purchases an estimated $70 million in firearms and related equipment annually, will refuse to do business with gun manufacturers and retailers that lack policies that deny guns to people with a history of mental illness or domestic abuse, the New York Times first reported. Retailers that wish to keep the state’s business will be required to “prevent, detect and screen for the transfer of firearms to straw purchasers or firearm traffickers.”

Murphy’s order will also deny the roughly $1 billion in financial-transaction fees the state pays annually to banks that have relationships with gun manufacturers and retailers that adhere to permissive policies.

New Jersey already has strict gun-control laws in place that require retailers to perform background checks, but the new policy will apply to out-of-state companies that are not bound by New Jersey laws.

Senior executives from 7 major newspaper publishing companies will head to Capitol Hill on Tuesday to convince lawmakers to do something about the dominance of tech companies over content creators, executives tell Axios.

Why it matters: This will be just the 2nd time that the newspaper industry has sent members to formally lobby members of Congress. It speaks to the major increase in lobbying efforts that the newspaper industry has used in recent years to combat the economic decline of its industry.

The big picture: “Our belief is that the current antitrust laws don’t allow us to work together,” says Timothy Knight, CEO of Tribune Publishing Company. “I view what we’re trying to do as rethinking how the game is played.”

WASHINGTON. Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn, Illinois, allegedly has a ‘comfort room’ for aborted babies who are born alive to die in, according to nurse Jill Stanek.

The nurse explained that while she was working at the hospital, she observed that doctors performed “live birth abortions,” a procedure in which the doctors perform an abortion and allow the baby to die during or after the abortion.

Stanek explained that Christ Hospital offered “comfort care” to babies who were born alive during these abortions, because these babies often survived for at least two hours after they were born. The hospital did not yet respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Dr. Kevin Barrett, a Muslim-American academic and radio host who is known for his belief that 9/11 was carried out by Israel and for his criticism of the War on Terror, was interviewed in an August 30, 2019 episode of “The Deen Show”, which is based in Chicago and hosted by Eddie Redzovic.

Dr. Barrett and Redzovic discussed how evidence that Muslims carried out 9/11 is obviously fabricated, and Dr. Barrett said that the official narrative of 9/11 is a “complete joke.”

Dr. Barrett and Redzovic agreed that people who try to “tell the truth” about 9/11, such as the group called Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth, are doing a form of Jihad.

“The Deen Show” is broadcasted by several English-language TV satellite and cable channels in the U.S., the U.K., and elsewhere.

  21. TORONTO – The Law Society of Ontario revoked a rule Wednesday that required its members to spell out their commitment to promoting diversity, but the decision did not quell debate over what the organization can and should do to tackle discrimination.

In a meeting in Toronto, the organization’s board of directors voted 28-20 in favour of repealing the rule, with two members abstaining. Another motion that would have made participation voluntary failed, with 27 voting against and 23 in support.

Some board members expressed disappointment and frustration with the results and raised concerns about the message the decision would send to members and the public at large.

Look! Up there! A pretty little bird gliding majestically through the sky, encapsulating the beauty of natu — oh wait. It’s a high-tech surveillance drone.

Over recent years, more than 30 Chinese military and government agencies have reportedly been using drones made to look like birds to surveil citizens in at least five provinces, according to the South China Morning Post.

The program is reportedly codenamed “Dove” and run by Song Bifeng, a professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University in Xi’an. Song was formerly a senior scientist on the Chengdu J-20, Asia’s first fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, according to the Post.

The bird-like drones mimic the flapping wings of a real bird using a pair of crank-rockers driven by an electric motor. Each drone has a high-definition camera, GPS antenna, flight control system and a data link with satellite communication capability, the Post reports.

  23. SAN FRANCISCO — Trump administration officials confirmed Tuesday they are on the ground in California looking at ways to intervene in the state’s mounting homelessness issue, which President Donald Trump has criticized as “disgusting” and a “disgrace to our country.”

But many elected officials and homelessness experts in the Golden State said any White House assistance would be disingenuous given federal housing cuts have helped exacerbate the problem. Some also accused Trump of using the homelessness issue to win over conservative supporters ahead of the 2020 election.

“We need federal support and resources to build more housing for people living on the streets,” San Francisco Mayor London Breed said in a statement. “But simply cracking down on homelessness without providing the housing people need is not a real solution.”

  27. Activists in Hong Kong who have been protesting for months, called off demonstrations Wednesday in remembrance of the 9/11 attacks.

The call to put the pause on the activism was also in response to a Chinese state newspaper, which conflated protesters to the terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people, according to Reuters.

“Anti-government fanatics are planning massive terror attacks, including blowing up gas pipes, in Hong Kong on September 11,” the Hong Kong edition of China Daily said in a Facebook post alongside a photo of the terror attacks at the World Trade Center.

“In solidarity against terrorism, all forms of protest in Hong Kong will be suspended on Sept. 11, apart from potential singing and chanting,” the demonstrators said in a statement.

  28. U.S. charges Chinese professor tied to Huawei with criminal theft of IP

At the center of a complicated U.S. criminal case involving China’s giant telecom firm Huawei is a Chinese professor in Texas named Bo Mao.

The case is significant because Huawei has repeatedly been accused of stealing intellectual property from U.S. companies, which Huawei denies. More broadly, President Trump has repeatedly accused China in recent months for reaping billions of dollars in IP theft from U.S. companies over the past two decades.

A criminal complaint accuses Mao of wire fraud in the theft of intellectual property of the architecture for Solid State Drive (SSD) controllers for semiconductor storage that was created by startup CNEX Labs in San Jose, California. The case (1:19-cr-00392-AMD1) was recently transferred from a Texas district court to the eastern district federal court in New York. The maximum penalty for a federal wire fraud conviction is 20 years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines.

  29. Russia Will Likely Collapse from the Inside

BESA Center Perspectives Paper No. 1,286, September 11, 2019

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: Russia is historically prone to internal collapse, as is shown by numerous examples from both the imperial and Soviet periods. The collapse usually takes place as Russia rests on the laurels of recent military victories while internal economic and social troubles grow. History teaches that the best way to deal with Russia is to keep intervention to a minimum and wait for its internal troubles to bring about its collapse.

When one power is defeated by another, the primary reason for its defeat is often internal weakness – military, social, or economic. Such weaknesses undermine state efforts to produce a fitting response to an enemy onslaught.

In the Russian case, these fundamental problems are compounded by another major flaw: geography. Russia’s harsh climate affects the central government’s ability to project its power efficiently. Long land borders with potential enemies add to the problem. Internal economic and technological weaknesses are a major hindrance to the state’s ability to succeed over the long term.

The implication of these fundamental flaws is that Russia is prone to internal collapse. The question is one of timing: whether or not the Russian Federation will collapse in the coming decade.

    https://besacenter.org/perspectives-papers/russia-internal-collapse/

    • Soomeone on the left has been studying history, they are doing their best to make the entire West collapse from economic, social and military weakness. Those three combined with traitors who are betraying us because of personal ambition and greed are causing the current problems.

Another problem we have is that too many people have bought into the idea that all is over and that we should set down and wait to be slaughtered. We haven’t been defeated and we won’t be defeated as long one third or more of the people have not given up. As long as we continue to fight we can’t lose, we can lose only when we have lost our will to resist the invasion.

  30. Nigeria: Islamic State claims ‘tens’ of military casualties in 2 Borno attacks (thedefensepost, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://thedefensepost.com/2019/09/11/nigeria-iswap-attacks-gudumbali-garunda-borno/

“Several Nigerian soldiers were killed in an ambush on a military convoy near Gudumbali in the Lake Chad area of Borno state, sources said, after Islamic State claimed its fighters carried out two attacks in the area.

Islamic State West Africa Province fighters opened fire with heavy machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades on the convoy as it traveled to Gudumbali on Monday, September 9, the security sources told AFP.

One told AFP that “the terrorists surprised troops with an ambush as they were heading to Gudumbali.”

“We lost several soldiers, vehicles and weapons to the terrorists in the attack,” said the source, who asked not to be identified.

The convoy was travelling to Gudumbali to reinforce troops from Nigeria and Chad attached to the regional Multinational Joint Task Force for a major offensive to recapture the town from ISWAP, a second security source said.

He added that the losses had been great and that from reports coming in, the number of casualties was “huge.”

A third security source told AFP, “It is not precisely clear the number of casualties recorded in the attack but a number paid the supreme price.”…”

“The Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen said Wednesday that it intercepted and downed a drone flown by the Iran-backed Houthi militias towards Saudi Arabia.

Arab Coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Maliki said the drone was launched towards the Saudi city of Najran.

He stressed that all Houthi attempts to attack the Kingdom are doomed to fail, saying the Coalition has taken all necessary measures, in line with the best rules of engagement, to deal with these threats and protect civilians.

Maliki vowed that the Coalition will continue to deter the Houthi actions to neutralize and destroy their abilities in line with international humanitarian law.”

  32. Nasrallah: Khamenei Is Our Imam, Our Leader… No Place For Neutrality in Any War Against Iran (aawsat, Sep 11, 2019)

“Hezbollah Leader Hassan Nasrallah warned that any war on Iran would ignite the entire region and lead to “the end of Israel.”

“This is our position as part of the axis of the resistance: we are not neutral and will not be,” he said.

In a speech in the southern suburbs of Beirut on the occasion of Ashura, Nasrallah described the US sanctions on Iran, Syria and the resistance movements in Palestine, Lebanon and Iraq as “unjust.”

“This supposed war will mark the end of Israel, the end of American hegemony and presence in our region,” he underlined.

Nasrallah went on to say: “From Lebanon, we tell the whole world that our imam, our leader, our master… is Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Husseini Khamenei… and that the Islamic Republic of Iran is the heart of the axis, its main center, its strongest supporter…”

He denounced the “sanctions on Lebanese banks”, which he said had “nothing to do with Hezbollah,” referring to the Jamal Trust Bank, adding that the Lebanese State and government should “defend the Lebanese and their institutions.”

Commenting on the recent Israeli attacks, Nasrallah said: “The Lebanese have foiled Israel’s attempt to change the rules of engagement that have been in place since 2006.”

He also valued “the united Lebanese position in rejecting the Israeli aggression on Lebanon.”

On the economic file, Nasrallah noted that the situation was not hopeless, but needed a responsible approach and concerted efforts to fight corruption.”

  33. ‘We’ll See What Happens,’ Trump Says about Possible Easing of Iran Sanctions (aawsat, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1897911/well-see-what-happens-trump-says-about-possible-easing-iran-sanctions

“US President Donald Trump left open on Wednesday the possibility that the United States could ease sanctions on Iran, adding he believes Iran wants to strike a deal with Washington on its nuclear program.

“We’ll see what happens,” Trump told reporters at the White House when asked about the possibility the United States would ease up on its “maximum pressure” campaign.

Trump’s firing of his hard-line national security adviser, John Bolton, on Tuesday prompted speculation that Washington’s policy toward adversaries such as Iran could ease.

Separately, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran would not negotiate with Washington while sanctions on his country are still being enforced by Washington.

Trump said on Wednesday it would be “very, very dangerous” for Iran to enrich uranium, a key step in developing a nuclear weapon, and also said, “I do believe they’d like to make a deal.”

“If they do, that’s great. If they don’t, that’s great too,” he said. “They have tremendous financial difficulty and the sanctions are getting tougher and tougher.”

Trump and US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo have said the president is open to meeting with Rouhani, possibly at the United Nations General Assembly meeting later this month.

Asked if he was looking at such a meeting, Trump told reporters he was not looking at anything.”

  34. Saudi Arabia calls for deterrent measures against Iran’s excesses (saudigazette, Sep 11, 2019)
    http://saudigazette.com.sa/article/577063/SAUDI-ARABIA/Saudi-Arabia-calls-for-deterrent-measures-against-Irans-excesses

“Saudi Arabia called on the international community to take deterrent measures against Iran’s excesses and breaches of the nuclear agreement.

Prince Abdullah Bin Khalid Bin Sultan, Saudi Ambassador to Austria and the Kingdom’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna, stressed the importance of working out a comprehensive international agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

He made the remarks while addressing the session of the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) being held from Sept. 9 to 13 in Vienna to discuss the IAEA’s reports on “Monitoring and verification in Iran in the light of Security Council Resolution No. 2231 of 2015.”

Prince Abdullah underscored the importance of a comprehensive international agreement on Iran’s nuclear program, ensuring that it should prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons of any sort.

He stressed the need to work on everything that can reduce the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, so as to ensure international peace and security.

“This agreement must include a specific, rigorous and permanent inspection mechanism for all sites, including military sites, in Iran with a mechanism to re-impose sanctions quickly and effectively in the event of Iran’s violation of the agreement,” he said.

He noted that Iran has not harnessed the economic return from lifting sanctions after it signed the nuclear agreement in the service of domestic development and improving the situation of the Iranian people.

“It is a mockery on the part of Iran that it continued provocation of triggering internal unrest in neighboring countries, and destabilizing the region’s security and stability in particular.

“The continued aggressive behavior of Iran over the past 40 years is confirmed by the recent reports of IAEA, including Iran’s breaches of the nuclear agreement,” he said.

The IAEA reports still did not include information on Iran’s intention to develop Naval Nuclear Propulsion Systems, Prince Abdullah said while stressing the need to clarify the purpose, especially as this technology is used more in military fields.”

  35. Saudi scholar ‘arrested’ for criticising music concerts (alaraby, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2019/9/11/saudi-scholar-arrested-for-criticising-music-concerts

“Saudi authorities have arrested a religious scholar after he criticised Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s policy of hosting international music concerts in the country.

The Prisoners of Conscience rights group said on Tuesday that Sheikh Omar Al-Muqbil, a professor of Islamic law at Qassim University, was arrested after denouncing the policies of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA) as a threat to the kingdom’s culture.

In a video, Al-Muqbil accused the GEA of “erasing the original identity of society”.

“This is a continuation of the arbitrary arrests that have taken place in the kingdom for the past two years, which are aimed at leading scholars, sheikhs and other free thinkers,” the Prisoners of Conscience group said.

In the past year a number of high-profile Western music stars including Mariah Carey, 50 Cent, Janet Jackson and Sean Paul have performed concerts in Saudi Arabia as part of Mohammed bin Salman’s “liberalisation” drive that has led to new cinemas, concerts and sporting extravaganzas.

The reforms, including an end to the decades-long ban on women driving and mixed gender concerts, are part of a sweeping economic plan, dubbed “Vision 2030″, to direct the Saudi economy away from oil dependence and to create new jobs for an overwhelmingly young population.

But critics argue that the reforms are a distraction from a sweeping crackdown against critics of Mohammed bin Salman…”

  36. Pakistan, 50 countries demand action to end Kashmir humanitarian crisis (tribune, Sep 11, 2019)
    https://tribune.com.pk/story/2053766/1-pakistan-50-countries-demand-action-end-kashmir-humanitarian-crisis/

“Pakistan submitted at the UN Human Rights Council a statement on Wednesday on behalf of 50 countries, expressing concern over the illegal annexation of occupied Kashmir by India.

In the statement, the signatories call for immediate cessation of brutalities against the people of Indian Occupied Kashmir (IOK) and protection of human rights in the disputed territory.

“The worsening human rights and humanitarian situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, especially following decisions taken on August 5, 2019, requires urgent attention by the Human Rights Council and human rights mechanisms,” it says.

The statement asks for immediate lifting of curfew while expressing concern over reports of rape, brutality, and enforced disappearances coming from the region.

It adds that the signatories share the concern expressed by High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet regarding the impact of recent actions on the rights of Kashmiris.

Pakistan asks for immediate halt of force and pellet guns in the region along with access for human rights organisations as well as international media.

Implementation of the recommendations of OHCHR’s Kashmir Reports – including the establishment of a UN Commission of Inquiry to investigate egregious human rights violations – has also been demanded in the joint statement.

It requests for regular reporting by the UN high commissioner on human rights in Occupied Kashmir, while it says that the dispute should be resolved as per UN Security Council resolutions.

Pakistan’s Foreign Office thanked the 50 countries which signed the joint statement in support of the people of IOK.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi held a special meeting with UN Human Rights Council President Coly Seck in Geneva. The two leaders discussed India’s unilateral steps and blatant violations of human rights in the region.

Qureshi said the steps India had taken were illegal and in contravention with the UN Security Council resolutions. He said Delhi’s decision to strip IOK of its autonomy an attempt to change the demographic composition of the population.

Seck expressed concern over the abuse of human rights and said the entire world was cautiously watching the situation and India’s moves.”
