Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

    • Nine years on, I’m sure nothing has changed:

How does the U.N. define terrorism:

  1. WATCH: An Islamist woman attacks publicist Henryk Stöckl on AfD rally in Hanover, Germany+++
On the way back from the AfD rally in Hanover a Burka woman suddenly ran into our crowd. We feared the worst!Immediately several policemen stopped the veiled woman. But when I recorded the aggression with which she resisted the police officers, she tore herself loose again, ran towards me and attacked me! She grabbed me by the shirt and kept hitting my head. With great effort, several policemen released her from me at some point.Full of hatred the burqa woman then also attacked the policemen! Only with great effort did several officers finally succeed in wrestling the Islamist to the ground.

  2. Norway Refuses to Take Migrants Ferried to Europe by ‘Rescue’ NGO (breitbart, Aug 25, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/08/25/norway-refuses-to-take-migrants-ferried-to-europe-by-rescue-ngo/

“The Norwegian government has confirmed it will not be taking in any migrants rescued by NGO Proactiva Open Arms in the Mediterranean, despite a French request.

Norwegian Justice and Immigration Minister Jøran Kallmyr confirmed that the government rejected the French offer, saying that Norway would also reject taking any migrants from the Doctors Without Borders (MSF) vessel the Ocean Viking, NRK reports.

Kallmyr told the broadcaster his reasoning for the rejection, saying, “basic mechanisms to prevent people from going out to sea are not in place. This applies, for example, to a screening system, so that we can quickly return those who do not want to stay in Europe back to Africa. And before this is in place, we do not want to participate in a distribution [of migrants].”

The move comes after the Proactiva Open Arms ship was allowed to dock on the Italian island of Lampedusa earlier this week after prosecutors gave the order.

Oscar Camps, founder of the Spain-based NGO, tweeted shortly after the go-ahead allowing the ship to dock, saying, “After 19 days, we will land in Lampedusa today. The boat will be temporarily seized, but it is a cost that Open Arms assumes to ensure that people on board can be taken care of.”

The move comes as part of a probe by prosecutor Luigi Patronaggio, who is investigating kidnapping allegations against populist leader Matteo Salvini.

Salvini responded to the allegations and the move to allow the migrants into Italian territory robustly, saying, “If anybody thinks they can scare me with the umpteenth complaint and wants a trial, they’re mistaken.”

Open Arms could face legal trouble itself in Spain, with Deputy Prime Minister Carmen Calvo telling media that the NGO did not have the correct Spanish permit to perform “rescue” operations and could face a fine of up to 900,000 euros ($1,000,000).”

  3. IS mortar attack on soccer field kills 6 in Iraq (abcnews, Aug 25, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/mortar-attack-soccer-field-kills-iraq-65177826

“Police in Iraq say Islamic State militants have fired mortar rounds at a soccer field near a Shiite shrine, killing six civilians and wounding nine others.

The attack occurred late Saturday in the village of Daquq, in Iraq’s northern Kirkuk province, as people were exercising.

Police officials confirmed the attack, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

The area of the attack, southeast of the city of Kirkuk, is controlled by Iran-supported militias known as the Popular Mobilization Forces.

IS, which once ruled a self-styled Islamic caliphate sprawling across Iraq and Syria, no longer controls territory in either country but has continued to stage sporadic attacks.”

  4. Migrant dies after van plunges into river in Croatia (abcnews, Aug 25, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/migrant-dies-van-plunges-river-croatia-65178428

“Police in Croatia say a migrant has died after a van carrying 12 of them plunged into a river near the border with Slovenia.

Police say the crash happened early Sunday after the van driver refused to stop at a checkpoint and was chased by a patrol. The driver, presumably a migrant smuggler, managed to get out of the sinking vehicle, fleeing into a nearby minefield and a search for him is ongoing.

Police rescued 11 migrants from the sinking van by breaking its windows, but a woman died at a hospital.

Last week, Slovenia started erecting additional fences on its southern border with Croatia after a considerable increase in the number of migrants trying to illegally cross between the two European Union-member states.”

  5. 3 Turkish soldiers killed in northern Iraq (abcnews, Aug 25, 2019)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkish-soldiers-killed-northern-iraq-65178531

“Turkey’s official news agency is reporting that three Turkish soldiers were killed in northern Iraq in clashes with Kurdish militants.

Anadolu Agency, citing the Turkish Defense Ministry, said Sunday that another seven soldiers were wounded and hospitalized.

Turkey launched the “Claw” operation in May into mountainous northern Iraq against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK. The offensive entered its third phase Friday, in which troops aim to destroy PKK caves and shelters in the Sinat-Haftanin region.

The PKK began an insurgency against Turkey in the country’s mainly Kurdish southeast in 1984, and the conflict has killed tens of thousands of people. Turkey, the United States and the European Union consider the group, based in the Qandil mountains of northern Iraq, a terror organization.”

  7. Israel hits Iranian force in Syria to stop ‘killer drones’ – military

JERUSALEM/DAMASCUS, Aug 24 (Reuters) – Israeli aircraft on Saturday struck Iranian forces near Damascus that had been planning to launch “killer drones” at targets in Israel, an Israeli military spokesman said.

“The strike targeted Iranian Quds Force operatives and Shiite militias which were preparing to advance attack plans targeting sites in Israel from within Syria over the last number of days,” the military said in a statement.

The elite Quds Force is the overseas arm of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards (IRGC). Israeli military spokesman Jonathan Conricus told reporters the forces on Thursday had been preparing to launch “killer drones” armed with explosives at northern Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the military had thwarted the planned Iranian attack. “Iran has no immunity anywhere. Our forces operate in every sector against the Iranian aggression,” he said on Twitter.

Syrian state media said Syrian air defences intercepted “hostile targets” over Damascus, the capital, Saturday night.

  8. Iran Issues Sanctions on Top Trump Admin Officials, Sen. Cruz
Cruz spox: ‘Cruz already avoids travel to terrorist regimes that take American citizens hostage’

Iranian lawmakers are preparing to issue a salvo of sanctions on top Trump administration figures and their supporters in Congress, according to reports in the country’s state-controlled press that have already elicited reaction from those officials targeted.

Iran’s parliament has set the stage for Tehran to sanction White House National Security Adviser John Bolton, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and Sen. Ted Cruz (R., Texas) for what Iranian officials have described as their “long record of animosity towards Iran.”

The sanctions would ban each of the Americans from ever traveling to Iran, bar them from engaging in any sort of talks with Iranian regime figures, and deny them the ability to trade with any Iranian entity.

“The bill calls for lifetime bans on U.S. National Security Adviser John R. Bolton, U.S. Secretary of Treasury Steven Mnuchin, and American senator Ted Cruz and their family members’ traveling to Iran, in a reaction to Washington’s embargos on Iranian officials, and these figures’ strong hostile measures against Iran in the past few years,” Iran’s state-controlled Fars News Agency reported, adding the measure is payback for Bolton, Mnuchin, and Cruz seeking to isolate the Islamic Republic.

  9. Mexican reporter found dead with stab wounds amid escalating violence

MEXICO CITY, Aug 24 (Reuters) – A Mexican journalist was found dead with stab wounds on Saturday, authorities said, adding to a growing list of reporter deaths in one of the world’s most dangerous countries for the press.

The state of Mexico prosecutor said it was investigating the cause of death of Nevith N., 42, whose body was found in the Tejupilco municipality about 75 miles (122 km) from Mexico City.

Advocacy group Reporters Without Borders identified him as Nevith Condes Jaramillo, who ran the local news site El Observatorio del Sur in the central state of Mexico.

Condes had published stories that triggered tensions with the local government and he received threats in November and June, a Reporters Without Borders spokeswoman said, citing information obtained from Condes’ reporter colleagues.

The group has singled out Mexico as the most dangerous country for journalists in the Western Hemisphere.

If proven as a homicide, Condes’ death would bring the murder toll of Mexican journalists this year to at least 10 compared with nine last year, according to free-speech advocacy group Article 19.

  10. Hong Kong police use water cannon in latest clashes

Hong Kong police used water cannon for the first time Sunday, raising the stakes against protesters who have staged sometimes violent rallies that have rocked the city for the past three months.

Officers were also seen with drawn sidearms as protesters clashed with police in the district of Tsuen Wan after a rally at a nearby sports stadium.

The financial hub has been gripped by mass rallies that were initially against a proposed extradition bill to China, but have spun into a wider pro-democracy movement targeting the pro-Beijing government.

As thousands of people marched in the pouring rain to Tsuen Wan, a group of hardcore protesters erected makeshift roadblocks and dug up bricks from the pavements.

  11. Hong Kong riot police beat protesters at anti-surveillance rally

Teargas thrown at masked demonstrators angry over lamp posts equipped with CCTV

Hong Kong riot police have fired rounds of teargas, rubber bullets, pepper balls and sponge rounds, and beaten people, as protesters led them on a game of cat-and-mouse across the city. The actions took place after a peaceful afternoon march into a confrontation and split into several impromptu marches in different locations.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators took part in an anti-government rally in the Kwun Tong district in Kowloon on Saturday, marking the city’s 12th week of protests. The peaceful march, sanctioned by police, turned into a tense standoff between riot police and protesters by mid-afternoon after demonstrators built barricades with bamboo rods and plastic traffic barriers outside a police station.

At about 4.40pm local time, baton-wielding riot police charged at thousands of protesters, beating them as they fled. Protesters threw bamboo rods and other objects back at the police.

  15. Report: Ex-Oxford Scholar Tariq Ramadan Facing New Rape Allegations (breitbart, Aug 25, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/middle-east/2019/08/25/report-ex-oxford-scholar-tariq-ramadan-facing-new-rape-allegations/

“Tariq Ramadan, the prominent former Oxford Islamic scholar charged in France with raping two women, has now had further allegations made against him, French judicial sources said Sunday.

The sources confirmed by AFP cite reports on Europe 1 radio and in Le Journal du Dimanche newspaper that a woman in her 50s had accused Swiss-born Ramadan, 56, of raping her along with a member of his staff when she went to interview the academic at a hotel in Lyon in May 2014.

The woman, who filed a criminal complaint in May 2019, also accused Ramadan of issuing “threats or acts of intimidation” aimed at dissuading her from reporting the alleged attack to the police, the judicial sources added.

Ramadan, grandson of Hassan Al Banna who founded the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, denies any wrong doing and maintains his innocence.

The married father of four was a professor at Oxford University until he was forced to take leave when rape allegations surfaced at the height of the “Me Too” movement in late 2017. He has previously denied charges he raped a disabled woman in 2009 and a feminist activist in 2012.

The academic was taken into custody in February 2018 and held for nine months before being granted bail. Authorities in Switzerland are also investigating him after receiving a rape complaint in that country.

The woman behind the latest complaint told police that Ramadan and a male assistant repeatedly raped her in Ramadan’s room at the Sofitel hotel in Lyon.

She described the alleged attack as being of “untold violence” and claimed that when she threatened to report them to the police Ramadan replied: “You don’t know how powerful I am.”

Ramadan was banned from entering the United States by the George W. Bush administration in 2004 after it was alleged he donated to the Association de Secours Palestinien (ASP/Palestinian Relief Organisation) from 1998 to 2002.

The U.S. government considered the ASP a group that funded terrorism by giving some of their donations to the anti-Israel terrorist organisation Hamas which is proscribed in the U.S.

Ramadan’s U.S. travel ban was later lifted by then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in 2010 during the Obama administration.

Ramadan’s own supporters have previously used social media networks to claim his problems are all part of a “Zionist plot.””

  16. Migrant Rapist, Spared Deportation by Plane Mutiny, Claims to be ‘Suicidal’, Seeks to Stay in UK (sputniknews, Aug 25, 2019)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201908251076636995-migrant-rapist-spared-deportation-by-plane-mutiny-claims-to-be-suicidal-seeks-to-stay-in-uk/

“Somalian Yaqub Ahmed, who was part of a gang that raped a 16-year-old girl, should have been deported from Britain last October; however, a revolt by people on board the plane scuppered his removal.

A rapist who dodged deportation from the UK in October after plane passengers, unaware of his crime, helped him stay on in the country is now seeking to be allowed to remain in Britain because of a “deterioration” in his mental health, writes MailOnline.

The bail tribunal hearing at Feltham, South West London, last Monday, revealed both the length to which Ahmed had gone to avoid deportation, and the legal wrangling entailing moving convicted foreign criminals out of the UK.

His barrister, Mark Allison, revealed that Ahmed, who was granted refugee status in the UK in 2003, was applying for a judicial review of his case. The man had also told a psychiatrist that he was suffering from “mental trauma”.

The psychiatrist filed a report which Home Office lawyer Matthew Williams said “is being treated as a request to revoke the deportation order”.

The tribunal also heard how Ahmed had previously tried to commit suicide on more than one occasion.

In another new claim, the Somalian man now reportedly says he was a victim of modern slavery prior to entering the UK.

He insists he was once kidnapped and worked “for a neighbour shining shoes for two years without pay”, although it isn’t clear where this was supposed to have taken place.

Apparently, anyone who is referred to authorities as a potential victim of slavery is up for a re-examination of their case by a specialist in a process that takes 45 days. Pending that, they cannot be deported.

The new developments have outraged Ahmed’s victim, who has been struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder after her ordeal.

“It’s ridiculous – his mental health is being put above mine. It’s absolutely disgusting and I’m appalled that he is using this excuse to try and avoid deportation,” she said.

The rapist, 30, was part of a gang that subjected a 16-year- old girl to a terrifying rape and was jailed for nine years.

In 2010, Ahmed, who still denies his crime, was first told he was liable for deportation. However, upon lodging an appeal against his removal, he was only put on a plane last October.

Fellow passengers on a flight to Turkey felt sorry for Ahmed, who began screaming that he had been separated from his family.

Thinking they were doing a good deed, the passengers stirred up a veritable mutiny before their aircraft left Heathrow.

Ahmed was bound for Istanbul, from where he would have travelled further on to Somalia.

In a video of the incident, Ahmed is heard screaming as passengers shout: “Take him off the plane!”

According to the publication, the case of Yaqub Ahmed is now a glaring example of the impotence of the UK immigration system.

According to new figures obtained by the Mail on Sunday, while 3,968 foreign criminals were served with deportation orders last year, 1,803 lodged legal appeals. This signifies that they will stay in Britain until their cases are heard.

Another 397 foreign criminals appealed against removal in the first three months of this year.”

“The Houthis and the Saudi-led coalition, which supports Yemen’s internationally recognised government in its fight against the movement, often exchange fire. Yemen’s Houthis Fire 10 Ballistic Missiles Towards Saudi Arabia’s Jizan Airport – Reports

Ten ballistic missiles were fired at Saudi Arabia’s Jizan Airport, located in the kingdom’s southwestern Jizan province, media reported, citing the Houthis’ military spokesperson.

According to the spokesperson, dozens were wounded and killed in the attack.

The Saudi-led coalition said that it had intercepted and destroyed six ballistic missiles fired by the Houthis, the media outlet reported, quoting a spokesman.

The report comes days after the Houthi’s military spokesperson said, as cited by Al Masirah broadcaster, that a medium-range missile had hit a Saudi military facility located in the city of Samtah in Jizan.

For several months, the Houthis have been launching of attacks on the Jizan and Abha airports in southern Saudi Arabia, injuring dozens of civilians, including children.

Yemen has been engulfed in an armed conflict between government forces, led by President Abdrabuh Mansour Hadi, and the Houthi movement for several years. https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/iraqi-militia-drone-attack-kills-commander-65182314

“Two unidentified drones killed two Iraqi members of an Iran-backed paramilitary force on Sunday, the group said in a statement, saying the attack took place in Iraq near the border with Syria.

The statement issued by the force known as the Popular Mobilization Forces said the attack occurred in Anbar province near the Qaim border crossing with Syria. It said the attack targeted vehicles belonging to the Hezbollah Brigades faction, also known as Brigade 45.

Two officials from the Hezbollah Brigades, which is separate from the Lebanese group of the same name, confirmed the attack and said the vehicles were being used to transport weapons. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to journalists about the matter.

Iraq’s Hezbollah Brigades operate under the umbrella of the state-sanctioned militias known collectively as the Popular Mobilization Forces, or PMF. Many of them are supported by Iran.

If confirmed, it would be the latest in a series of attacks that have targeted PMF bases and weapons depot in Iraq. U.S. officials have said that Israel was behind at least one of them.

No one claimed responsibility, and the PMF statement did not assign blame.”

Hundreds of far-right activists from the ‘Pro Chemnitz’ movement marched through the Saxon city on Sunday to mark one year since a stabbing that triggered mass protests there. Footage shows protesters holding banners with printed news articles covering the incident.

In August 2018, a German man was stabbed to death allegedly during a fight with two refugees from Iraq and Syria. The incident sparked mass rallies against immigration in Chemnitz.

Saxony will hold state elections next Sunday in which the far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) is hoping to make gains with its anti-migration policies.
