German Muslims recommend beating of disobedient women – German courts do not have any objections to it+++
In the case of a marriage in serious trouble or if the partner is “unruly”, the Islamic Centre Munich (IZM) refers to the Koran. Accordingly, the husband should observe three steps: First: Exhortation. Second: Separation in the marriage bed. And third: Beating. For 15 years, visitors to the website of the Munich community have been given this information under item 10 “Woman and Family in Islam”. The employee of a contact point for abused women, who does not want to be named, reports in an interview with broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk about an abused Muslim woman whose husband regards domestic violence as legitimate because his community considers it legal. Such publications as those of the IZM would have a catastrophic effect on the idea of equality for men and women, according to the educator. This would also have serious consequences for the next generation: Some girls, traumatised by their mothers’ experiences of violence, often submit to subservience and victimhood. Boys are educated to become perpetrators of violence by such community legitimized rules. According to the teacher, there is no political will to change the facts of the crime in such a way that even general “calls” to violence are punishable. Despite all this, the public prosecutor’s office in Munich informs the broadcaster BR that there are no indications that a punishable offence has been committed. The recommendations published by the Islamic Centre Munich on its website on the subject of “Women and Family in Islam” “sometimes seem strange, but do not constitute a criminal offence”. The legal reason: Here no call is made for the committing of concrete crimes, there is no incitement to concrete acts of bodily injury. “There was and is therefore no room for the initiation of preliminary proceedings,” explains the public prosecutor’s office in Munich. The Islamic Centre has been based in Munich for many decades. The Association of the German Muslim Community (DMG) was founded under the auspices of the IZM. The Bavarian Ministry of the Interior takes a critical view of the IZM, which is regularly mentioned in the Bavarian report on the protection of the constitution – also because of its association with the DMG, which “… tries to achieve its goals, which are shaped by the ideology of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), by political engagement in Germany”. And their desired political system shows clear features of a totalitarian system of rule, which “… does not guarantee the principles of freedom and equality of people”. In addition to the beating of their wives, there is also an article on divorce under the heading “Wife and Family in Islam”: “Usually, after the divorce the wife returns to her parents’ house without the children. This makes it easier for her to remarry.”

“India and Pakistan are reported to be engaged in heavy gunfire in northern Kashmir’s Baramulla District amid tensions that are gradually ratcheting up along the Line of Control.
“The Indian Army is using cluster bombs deliberately to target civilian population along the Line of Control, the use of cluster bombs was done on the night of 30th July/31st July, which is a violation of international law”, the Pakistani military said in a statement.
The Pakistani military has released pictures allegedly showing the cluster bombs that, as they claim, were used against civilians by the Indian Army.
The statement comes a day after reports about the two countries being engaged in heavy gunfire in northern Kashmir’s Baramulla District.
Following the events, India decided to send more border troops to the Pakistani border. A total of 28,000 troops from the Indian Central Armed Police Force were reportedly moved to Jammu and Kashmir on 2 August in addition to the 10,000 soldiers that were deployed to the India-administered part of the state last week.
Tensions between the two countries have escalated over the past several months since Pakistan fully closed its airspace to India on 27 February. The decision was initially caused by a deadly attack on an Indian security convoy in Kashmir, an area disputed by both countries, on 14 February that resulted in over 40 deaths. The attack was later allegedly claimed by Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed. Tensions increased as India accused Pakistan of being behind the attack and supporting the terrorists, whose leader is based in Pakistan. Islamabad has rejected all the allegations.
In retaliation, the Indian Air Force carried out airstrikes against what it claimed to be a Jaish-e-Mohammed camp in the Pakistani part of the disputed Kashmir region. The Pakistani military then shot down two Indian military jets that had crossed the line of control separating the Indian and Pakistani parts of Kashmir.
Following several armed conflicts, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire in 2003 after years of clashes since the end of British rule in the region in 1947. Both parties have repeatedly accused each other of violating the truce since 2003, with continued instability in the region leading to the emergence of various extremist groups.”

“The Swedish municipality of Bengtsfors has petitioned the national government for aid due to massive costs incurred taking in more migrants than the municipality could afford.
Local Moderate Party politician Stig Bertilsson said the multi-page letter was clear in identifying the cause of the budget deficit as being related to the large number of “new Swedes” taken in and requested aid to cover the costs, SVT reports.
“Costs in municipalities that have received new arrivals have continued to be substantial even when government revenues have stopped. This creates a large negative hole in the municipal cash register,” Bertilsson said.
When asked about tax revenues from new migrants that could bridge the deficit gap, Bertilsson said that in the long run he hoped there would be a rise in revenues but so far there has not been one, adding that the Swedish labour market “has a long way to go”.
Unemployment figures for migrants in Sweden are in fact much higher than those for native Swedes, with a report last summer showing a 19.9 per cent unemployment rate for migrants compared to just 3.6 per cent for natives.
In the letter to the national government, the local government claims that raising taxes to cover the costs will not be a solution as local tax rates are already high at 22.9 per cent, the tenth-highest overall in Sweden.
Last year, a report from the Swedish National Institute of Economic Research (KI) claimed that many municipalities across the country would be forced to raise taxes, specifically stating mass migration costs as the reason.
“We are facing some years of demographic challenge, which makes me a little worried that the municipalities may be forced to raise taxes,” said Urban Hansson Brusewitz, the head of KI.
Bertilsson has proposed that Swedish municipalities should look at a system of equalisation payments among municipalities in order for those with higher average tax yields to help those where residents have lower average incomes.
Such a plan has already been proposed and was discussed last spring by the municipal governments in order to help more rural, lower-populated areas.”

“Two Somalia refugees will be jailed until their trial on charges they provided support to a terror group after federal agents say they were planning to travel from Tucson, Arizona, to Egypt to join the Islamic State.
Earlier this week, a federal magistrate ordered 21-year-old Ahmed Mahad Mohamed and 20-year-old Abdi Yemani Hussein to remain jailed.
A criminal charge alleged Mohamed and Hussein told an undercover FBI employee they wanted to travel to the Middle East to carry out violence and “achieve martyrdom.”
Both men were arrested July 26 after they checked in for their flights and made their way through security at the Tucson airport.
Mohamed and Hussein haven’t yet had an arraignment hearing where they will enter a plea to the charge.

An independent adviser has been appointed to provide expert advice on a definition of Islamophobia to the government.
An independent adviser has today (23 July 2019) been appointed to provide expert advice on a definition of Islamophobia to the government.
Imam Qari Asim MBE, Deputy Chair of the Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group will lead a process for establishing a definition of Islamophobia. He will be joined by a second adviser to be confirmed in due course.
This new work will build on the definitions of Islamophobia currently being considered, including the APPG definition. It will also draw on a wide range of opinions and work in close collaboration with the cross-government Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group, to ensure that it commands broad support within Muslim communities and wider society.

The government is wholeheartedly committed to ensuring that Muslims are not targeted for hatred, persecution or discrimination.

This is a matter that needs careful consideration.
The Communities Secretary announced earlier this year that we would instead be appointing two advisers to drive the process of establishing a definition on Islamophobia forward and lead work on making recommendations for the government to consider. The advisers will work with the Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group which will continue to engage with Muslims and address hate and discrimination.

-Qari Asim, MBE, is senior Imam at Makkah Mosque in Leeds, which has won the award of being UK’s model mosque and Legal Director at a global law firm.
He is Deputy Chair of government’s Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group and was an advisor to the Independent Review into the Application of Sharia Law in England and Wales.
Alongside this, he is Chair of Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board, and Senior Editor of ImamsOnline. Qari Asim is passionate about fostering relations between communities and is a trustee of Christian Muslim Forum, an executive board member of National Council of Imams & Rabbis, a director of Forum for Promoting Peace (London) and one of the faith advisors to the Near Neighbours programme.

The definition will not be legally binding and the appointment of a legal expert will be to ensure that the definition does not conflict with current equalities legislation.
The government has done more in recent years to tackle anti-Muslim hatred. This includes:

Rabat – Today, July 23, the UK government appointed an independent advisor to give expert advice on islamophobia, as well as help create a clear definition of the social problem.
Imam Qari Asim MBE, Deputy Chair of the Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group, has been selected for the important role, and he will be joined by a second advisor in due course, according to a press release from the UK government.
Asim, along with his team, will draw on a wide range of opinions and work in close collaboration with the cross-government Anti-Muslim Hatred Working Group to build on the current definitions of Islamophobia, added the statement.
Asim expressed his honor in being entrusted with the role, “which will have a far-reaching impact in protecting British Muslims and tackling anti-Muslim hatred.”

Recent crackdown on Islamophobia
The appointment of an independent expert is part of ongoing efforts by the UK government to crackdown on Islamophobia.
In recent years, the government doubled the Places of Worship Fund, which protects mosques and other places of worship, to £1.6 million. A new £5 million fund has also been allocated to provide security training and consultation on what more can be done to protect faith communities.
The crackdown and concentrated efforts are in response to worrying statistics showing a rise in islamophobia. In its 2017 annual report, Tell MAMA, a UK government-funded NGO, logged the highest ever number of anti-muslim incidents since its launch 5 years earlier.
The NGO recorded a total of 1,330 anti-muslim acts, defined as vandalism, harassment, and violence, in 2017 alone.

Is May’s Islamophobia adviser a parting shot at Boris?
Theresa May has had a busy few weeks, frantically churning out press releases, consultations and policies to build a legacy before she is replaced by her nemesis Boris Johnson.
And as one of her final acts as Prime Minister, Theresa May took the unusual step of appointing Imam Qari Asim as a new Islamophobia tsar this morning. According to a government press release the ‘independent adviser has been appointed to provide expert advice on a definition of Islamophobia to the government.’ May’s government also announced that Labour’s John Mann would be appointed as an independent adviser on anti-Semitism.
But Mr Steerpike can’t quite help but wonder if the appointment of Qari Asim has more to do with Boris Johnson than ‘tackling burning injustices’ or the good of the country.
Back in 2018, when Boris was under fire for comparing women in burkas to ‘letterboxes’, Asim, as chair of the Mosques and Imams National Advisory Board, went on LBC radio to publicly lambast Johnson, whose comments he said ‘legitimised the hatred that exists towards Muslim women’ and ‘fanned the flames of Islamophobia.’

Shops shut, traffic blocked as protests again roil Hong Kong
HONG KONG, Aug 3 (Reuters) – Stores in the heart of Hong Kong’s Kowloon shopping area shut their doors on Saturday and black-clad activists blocked thoroughfares as the Chinese-controlled city was again rocked by anti-government protests.
Tens of thousands marched through the crowded Mong Kok district in the afternoon, with many then dispersing to different parts of the Kowloon peninsula, where they defaced police station signs and set up barriers across busy streets.
Police said a large group of protesters had marked the Tsim Sha Tsui police station, in one of Kowloon’s shopping districts, with paint and damaged a vehicle inside the station. The police said in a statement that officers had warned them “to stop their illegal act at once and disperse peacefully”.
Riot police could be seen outside the police stations in Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok.
Protests against a proposed bill allowing people to be extradited to stand trial in mainland China have grown increasingly violent since June, with police accused of excessive force and failing to protect protesters from suspected gang attacks.

I am watching Gordon Chang on FOX and he is saying that he thinks the CCP will back off in Hong Kong but on the mainland they are releasing videos showing the Chinese Army hunting down Chinese citizens.
When thinking about this problem you also need to take a look at the Pak India border with the artillery exchanges along the LOC. I don’t know if China is pushing this directly of if India is pushing because they think China is tied up . We can take it as a given that the North Korean missile tests/launches are attempts to keep attention off of Hong Kong.
This can be good news in the trade war since China can back off during the Hong Kong trouble with very little risk of the Chinese Population learning about it.
Air Force to deploy ground-based lasers in first field test of ‘directed energy’ weapon

The Air Force announced Friday it will soon deploy two ground-based laser weapons to an undisclosed location to test how they can be used against small drones, the service’s first “operational field test” of an experimental “directed energy” weapon.
On Friday afternoon, the Air Force announced a $23 million sole-source contract for two of Raytheon’s High Energy Laser Weapons Systems, through which the systems are to be tested for 12 months in an undisclosed “contested environment” outside the continental United States.
“What we really want to do is figure out how we can deploy these systems in an environment where our warfighters work and train every day,” said Evan Hunt, director of high energy laser and counter-UAS at Raytheon. (UAS stands for unmanned aerial system.)

California is making it difficult for primary voters to review the criminal justice record of presidential hopeful Kamala Harris. The state’s Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation recently removed archives on incarceration rates from its website.
The reports contained information from Harris’ tenure as attorney general from 2011 through 2017. During that time, data shows more than 120,000 black and Latino citizens were sent to prison.
Harris has attempted to portray herself as a progressive on criminal justice on the campaign trail, but her record has faced growing scrutiny. Most recently, Harris was called out by one her 2020 challengers on the debate stage.

Russian police detain nearly 100 opposition protesters in Moscow
MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russian police on Saturday detained nearly 100 people attending a protest in Moscow to demand free elections, including prominent activist Lyubov Sobol, after the authorities warned the demonstration was illegal.
Police removed Sobol from a taxi and bundled her into a van minutes before the start of what anti-Kremlin activists described as a peaceful walk to protest against the exclusion of their candidates from an election next month.

The accord, the General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA), facilitates three-way intelligence gathering with Washington, and is crucial for both South Korea and Japan in dealing with North Korea’s nuclear and missile threats. The deal is automatically renewed annually on Aug. 24.
“GSOMIA plays a quite significant part in three-way security cooperation,” said the official told reporters on the sidelines of a regional security forum in Bangkok.

Retracing a slave route in Ghana, 400 years on
ADIDWAN, Ghana (Reuters) – Nana Assenso stands at the grave of his uncle, remembering the man he loved but also a past that has haunted his family for generations.
His uncle was called Kwame Badu, a name that has been passed on through the family in remembrance of an ancestor with that name who was captured and sold into slavery long, long ago.

“Growing up, I was told the story of two of my great-great-grand-uncles Kwame Badu and Kofi Aboagye who were captured and sold into slavery,” says Assenso, 68, the chief of Adidwan, a village in Ghana’s interior. He followed the family tradition and named his youngest son Kwame Badu.
This month marks 400 years since the first recorded African slaves arrived in North America to work plantations in English colonies. In the centuries after, European slave traders shipped millions of African men, women and children across the Atlantic Ocean. Many died in horrific conditions on the slave boats, while survivors endured a life of misery and backbreaking farm work.
For some of them, the terrible journey began here, deep inside Ghana. Captured by slavers, they were marched along dirt tracks for 200 kilometers (125 miles) to slave castles perched on the Atlantic Coast, where they boarded ships for North America. They never saw their homeland again.
From here in Adidwan, the slaves were forced south, passing through the gold-mining town of Obuasi.
Kwaku Agyei is a pastor and elder in Obuasi. He tells the story of the slave trade to young workers in his neighborhood, the indignity of it mixed with pride in his ancestors.

Pelosi Cites Progress in Trump Probes as Impeachment Calls Rise
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats in Congress will continue to “legislate, investigate and litigate” to hold President Donald Trump accountable for what she called an assault on U.S. elections and the Constitution.
At a time when increasing numbers of her rank-and-file members are calling for a formal impeachment inquiry, Pelosi issued a statement Friday outlining legal battles and investigations that she said make up an aggressive posture toward the president.
“In America, no one is above the law,” Pelosi said in her statement. “The president will be held accountable.”
She outlined the work of six congressional panels conducting activities such as seeking Trump’s tax returns, filing to obtain grand jury testimony underlying Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report, and looking into the president’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. She said 54% of all House Democrats serve on a committee engaged in some sort of Trump investigation.
Pelosi issued her statement on the same day the Washington Post reported that a majority of House Democrats have endorsed an impeachment inquiry.

BREITBART – Delingpole: Exposed? Soros on List of Mega-Rich Extinction Rebellion Backers
An anonymous source claims to have extracted lots of documents from Extinction Rebellion’s computer database and has put them up online.
The documents, if genuine, seem to have been exposed through carelessness on the part of Extinction Rebellion, not a computer hack. Anyway, Paul Homewood has been filleting some of the best bits and here is what he has found.
If verified, this confirms Extinction Rebellion is disturbingly flush and well-funded: over £1 million raised this year, half of it still unspent, according to the documents.
Major donors are said to include — inevitably — George Soros; Vivienne Westwood’s son Joe Corre (the saucy underwear and dildo tycoon, worth $48 million); the European Climate Foundation (which funnels money from far-left American philanthropic foundations to European climate projects); Greenpeace; the far-left Tides Foundation; and a little known Swiss asset management company, called Furka Holdings, founded by a banker with Russian links, which gave £50,000.
Another of their previously revealed donors is the popular beat combo Radiohead.
Here are some of things that the eco-fascist protest group has achieved for its sponsors so far:
Prevented a man from saying goodbye to his dying father because their roadblock prevented him getting to hospital in time.
Exposed the police to ridicule after one officer was filmed skateboarding to show how down with the green kidz he was during a protest at which Extinction Rebellion had blocked an entire London bridge by turning it into a mini-Glastonbury.
Cost the taxpayer at least£16 million for extra policing, plus untold millions more for the cost of dealing with the 1200 Extinction Rebellion activists arrested in 11 days of protests.
Threatened to ruin the summer holidays of thousands of travellers with a plan (happily nixed) to use drones to shut down Heathrow Airport.
Cost London businesses upwards of £12 million in lost revenues.
Short of actually killing someone – they claim to be non-violent, though let’s see how long that one lasts – it’s hard to imagine what Extinction Rebellion could do that they haven’t done already to show what very nasty pieces of work they are.
So why would anyone wish to give such a wickedly unpleasant organisation money?
One reason, perhaps, is the gulf between how Extinction Rebellion presents its aims publicly and what it actually believes privately.
As was noted in a recent report by Richard Walton – former head of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism Command – Extinction Rebellion is a hard-left extremist organisation with anti-Semitic associations.
“Those encountering Extinction Rebellion should be under no illusions about just how destabilising and extremist their agenda is. Not only is it unclear how their three formal demands could realistically be satisfied, but also it appears unlikely that their actions would end even if government committed to trying to implement them. The words of Extinction Rebellion’s founders and its posts on social media make clear that the objective is system change. This means bringing down our existing democratic system—which several of the campaign’s leading figures hold in contempt—and causing rapid economic disaster for the country. The proponents of this course of action have no serious explanations for how the country would function if their demands were implemented.”
But remarkably Extinction Rebellion’s public image remains quite favourable.
At a conference held in the City of London recently by the health insurance group Aviva, for example, one of the speakers was the communications director of Extinction Rebellion. He urged the City audience to whistleblow their companies’ strategic plans to Extinction Rebellion who would post them online: his explanation being that the climate emergency is so much greater than we’ve been told by our lying governments that this kind of economic sabotage is vital to our survival. Several of the conference attendees cheered.
I haven’t seen this reported by Aviva or written up elsewhere. But I expect that Aviva is far from the only woke corporate institution suffering from this kind of cognitive dissonance – giving oxygen space and uncritical enthusiasm to people who are, au fond, its sworn enemies hell bent on destroying the entire economic system whence it derives its business model.
Extinction Rebellion represents the most extreme end of the green movement which sees economic growth as an unsustainable evil and Western industrial civilisation as something which must necessarily be destroyed if the world is to enjoy any kind of future.
If its view of the world sounds slightly unhinged that’s probably because it is unhinged.
There is little if any scientific evidence to support its deranged world view; yet its conviction that it is right, that indeed it has a monopoly on truth, is as strong as any doomsday cult’s.
It spells out what it believes very clearly in this private briefing document, which lists its aims and describes its philosophy:
To show to radical people (and internationally) that it is possible to have an “impossible” plan and carry out a rebellion – however small (or large!) and thus increase the “overton window” of acceptable discourse on the ecological crisis.
To create a national conversation about the ecological crisis and climate breakdown – including that our families/communities/society and state are facing existential threat. This includes to discuss our demands with the government/ political parties (see below). Also to support further uprisings to demand change off the back of the door we open.
To build structure, community and test prototypes in preparation for the coming structural collapse of the regimes of western “democracies” – now seen as inevitable due to stored up crisis. Thus preparing a foundation to transform society and resist fascism / other extremes. This includes creating Rising from the Wreckage- a Citizens Assembly based on sortition
Our overall ambition is an international rebellion that helps humanity to turn quickly onto a course that is compatible with life on earth. However we are unattached to this outcome, we also make these valiant efforts, to lead an honourable life in this time of grief, destruction and unravelling.
It’s their way or the highway – or so these people believe. But if they get their way — and they are perfectly sincere about their aims: this isn’t a game — then it will be the end of Western civilisation as we know it. The costs of heating or cooling homes will rocket; travel will become prohibitively expensive (and possibly, in some cases, illegal; standards of living will plummet; the children of the future (whom greenies so love to invoke) will be poorer than their forebears; state regulation will become increasingly totalitarian; resources will be rationed by the government rather than distributed by the market; still more old people will die in fuel poverty.

“After picking up 40 migrants, the NGO Sea-Eye has challenged Italian interior minister Matteo Salvini, saying they will never return migrants to Libya.
The defiant NGO addressed the populist League leader in comments reported by Il Giornale, saying: “We will obey international law and we will not bring anyone back to a country at war. Libya is not a safe haven.”
Salvini was quick to reply to the NGO saying: “The ship Alan Kurdi, currently 30 miles from the coasts of Libya, REFUSED the port of Tripoli assigned to it by the Libyan Coast Guard.”
“Here we are again, a German NGO which doesn’t care about the international authorities. I won’t give up!” Salvini added.
The comments from the German-based NGO come after the interior minister reiterated that the Italian ports were closed to migrant transport vessels, telling the ship to drop the migrants off in Tunisia, which is far closer to the area where they are collected than Sicily or mainland Italy.
Earlier this week, German interior minister Horst Seehofer requested that Salvini open the ports to NGOs, arguing that many have landed in Italy anyway after days of negotiations.
Salvini, who has always tried to ensure that other EU member-states have agreed to take in any migrants which do land in Italy prior to bringing them ashore, rejected the German’s call, saying: “We are not opening anything, the ports remain closed.”
This week also saw the landing of 116 migrants who were picked up by an Italian coastguard vessel, the Gregoretti, after a deal was made to redistribute them to six countries across Europe, including France and Germany.
Italian authorities announced on Thursday that two of the migrants aboard the vessel had been arrested on suspicion of being human traffickers. The Ragusa police said the two men, from Senegal and Gambia, are under investigation for aiding illegal migration.
They added that they were also searching through a second group of migrants picked up by the coastguard to determine if any human traffickers were among those migrants as well.
Several members of migrant transport NGOs are facing similar charges, including ship captain Pia Klemp and captain Carola Rackete of Sea-Watch.”

“The Islamic State terror group continues to pose a real and present danger, according to the latest United Nations six-month report on jihadist activities.
Islamic State (ISIS) leadership “aims to adapt, survive and consolidate in the core area and to establish sleeper cells at the local level in preparation for eventual resurgence, while using propaganda to maintain the group’s reputation as the leading global terrorist brand – the ‘virtual caliphate,’” the report declares.
“When it has the time and space to reinvest in an external operations capability, ISIL will direct and facilitate international attacks in addition to the ISIL-inspired attacks that continue to occur in many locations around the world,” it states.
“The current abatement of such attacks, therefore, may not last long, possibly not even until the end of 2019,” it warns.
The report points to the estimated 30,000 foreigners who traveled to fight for ISIS and may still be alive.
“Their future prospects will be of international concern for the foreseeable future,” the report says. “Some may join al-Qaida or other terrorist brands that may emerge. Some will become leaders or radicalisers.”
Relying on information provided by intelligence agencies of U.N. member states, the report offers a collective overview from security services around the world.
Despite a drop in recent major attacks, the threat to Europe from Islamic State activity “remains high,” the report declares.
“Deradicalisation programmes have not proven to be fully effective,” the report says. “The most combat-hardened fighters serving longer sentences are not yet approaching release from prison. They remain dangerous and continue to pose a challenge both inside and outside the penal system.”
The presence of jihadist extremists in prisons elevates the threat of radicalization of “inmates afflicted by poverty, marginalisation, frustration, low self-esteem and violence,” the text states.
As many as 6,000 European citizens traveled to Iraq and Syria to join ISIS or other radical groups, the document notes, and while a third was killed, another third remains at large, and two thousand or more may have returned to Europe.
The report also notes that the Islamic State still has access to somewhere between $50 million and $300 million remaining from the revenues of the caliphate, a sum that could be used to inflict significant damage.”

In a controversial decision in April, Yazidi religious leaders, apparently to protect the traumatized, insular community, decreed they won’t embrace the children of IS, only those born to two Yazidi parents.”

“July saw the highest number of civilian casualties in Afghanistan in a single month since 2017, the U.N. mission said Saturday.
Its preliminary findings indicate more than 1,500 civilians were killed or wounded, mainly due to a spike in casualties from insurgent attacks. It did not provide a breakdown of deaths and injuries, but said the overall number was the highest for a single month since May 2017.
It said more than 50% of casualties were caused by bombings. A roadside bomb tore through a bus in western Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing at least 32 people. A complex attack on the office of the Afghan president’s running mate last weekend killed at least 20 people. The target of the attack, former intelligence chief Amrullah Saleh, escaped unharmed. No one has claimed either attack.
The Taliban, who effectively control half the country, carry out daily attacks on security forces and government targets that often kill and wound civilians. An Islamic State affiliate also operates in Afghanistan, targeting security forces as well as minority Shiites.
A roadside bomb in the western Herat province killed a district chief and another individual on Saturday, according to police spokesman Farzad Farotan, who said five others were wounded in the blast. In the southern city of Kandahar, a suicide bomber on a motorcycle wounded at least eight civilians, according to provincial police spokesman Jamal Naser Barekzai. No one claimed either attack.
The Taliban have kept up a steady tempo of attacks despite holding several rounds of peace talks with the United States in recent months. The two sides appear to be closing in on an agreement in which U.S. forces would withdraw in exchange for guarantees that Afghanistan would not become a haven for terrorist groups.
“As peace efforts have intensified in recent weeks so too has the conflict on the ground,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the U.N. envoy to Afghanistan. “I call on all parties not to ramp up military operations thinking that doing so will give them a stronger position in talks about peace.”
On Tuesday, the U.N. released a report saying most civilian deaths in the first half of the year were caused by Afghan forces and their international allies. The report apparently referred to civilians killed during Afghan and U.S. military operations against insurgents. “Spain’s maritime rescue service says it has saved 59 migrants, nearly all minors, trying to make the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea in a small boat.
The service says that the migrants were located Saturday in the Strait of Gibraltar by a Civil Guard patrol craft, which escorted them to a rescue ship. The Guardia Civil reported to the service that 51 of the occupants were under 18.
The other passengers were seven women and one adult man. All appeared to be of northern African descent, according to authorities.
Spain became the leading entry point for migrants to Europe in 2018, with about 57,000 unauthorized border crossings.
The International Organization for Migration says 840 people have died trying to cross the Mediterranean this year.”

Man who killed calf in Home Depot lot charged with cruelty
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A butcher shop employee who cut the throat of a runaway calf in a Home Depot parking lot has been charged with animal cruelty, police said Friday.
Badr Musaed,39, turned himself in Thursday to face the felony charge, authorities said. He was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
The young cow broke out of the Saba Live Poultry store in Bloomfield on July 13 and ran behind the Home Depot store across the street. The animal eluded several people who tried to corral it before employees from the halal butcher shop wrestled it to the ground and Musaed cut its throat. At the time, he was cited for public disturbance.
Police decided to pursue the more serious charge after consulting with agriculture officials, said Lt. Christina Benvenuto, a spokeswoman for Bloomfield police. She said the investigation included a review of regulations for halal slaughter, in which animals are killed in accordance with Islamic dietary laws.
It was not immediately clear whether Musaed had an attorney.
The manager of the halal butcher shop, Bilal Musid, has apologized but said his employees worried the calf would hurt someone if wasn’t stopped.
The state Department of Agriculture investigated the shop after the parking lot slaughter and sent a cease-and-desist order, citing conditions at the facility that would result “in imminent and substantial harm to health of the animals.”
There are currently no animals at the store, and it must address several violations before it can resume operations, Benvenuto said.
The killing provoked an outcry from animal-rights activists, who held a vigil on the spot where the animal was killed. The case also has led to a stream of racist, anti-Muslim comments posted on webpages associated with the store

Multiple victims reported after shooting near El Paso Walmart, police warn of multiple ‘shooters’
More than a dozen people are believed to have been shot near Walmart in El Paso, Texas, on Saturday morning, as police warned of reports of multiple “shooters.”
Police responded to reports of an active shooting at the Cielo Vista Mall area shortly before 11 a.m. local time and asked people to stay clear of the active scene.
KTSM reported that at least 18 people were shot inside the Walmart; however, the extent of their injuries was not immediately known.
A witness told Fox News that his mother died at the scene.

El Paso shooting: Gunman shoots dead 22 in Walmart massacre
A GUNMAN has stormed a Walmart supermarket in El Paso and shot dead 22 people, with reports four victims were children – with one shooter reported to now be in custody.
Police in the Texas state have received several reports there is more than one shooter at the supermarket in Cielo Vista Mall. The gunmen were armed with an AK-47 rifle, according to a witness. Terrified shoppers ran for cover under tables and desks in the store where 22 people have been shot dead in a shocking act of violence.
Police are said to be still dealing with one of the shooters. The other is in custoody.
The store on the Texas boarder is on lockdown.
The El Paso Police Department took to Twitter to release a statement.
They said: “Scene is still Active. We have multi reports of multiple shooters. Please avoid area police conducting search of a very large area. Media staging will be given when area is secure.”
Another person claimed there are at 20 dead, and that his wife was on the scene.
He said: “Wife was almost shot a bullet grazed her shirt at walmart then at the mall when she ran to cielo vista there are several shooters so far 20 dead or injured, sams, walmart and cielo vista mall have active shooters dozens of cops border patrol sheriffs and swat people still trapped.”
The FBI is at the scene too.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott said on Twitter: “In El Paso, the Texas Dept. of Public Safety is assisting local law enforcement & federal authorities to bring this tragedy to the swiftest & safest possible conclusion.
“We thank all First Responders for their courageous response & urge all area residents to remain safe.”
Another witness said he is safe but is struggling to get in touch with his friends.
He said: “I was in the area of the shooting, I’m safe, but I haven’t heard from any of my friends since. I’m so f***ing scared.
“I told all my friends, called my boyfriend. There’s rumors of more attacks to happen. I’m so terrified for my city. Stay safe el paso.”
Another social media claims a witness said the men had planned to open fire on El Paso and not just the Walmart store, adding they are part of a suspected crime gang.
There is a now a helecopter and several ambulances on the scene.
Police, who are still hunting a second shooter, have urged the public to avoid the area at all costs.
They said: “Active Shooter in area of Hawkins and Gateway East. Scene is still active avoid the area. RG limited information.
The area is full of shops and restaurants and is also located two miles south of El Paso International Airport.
The latest images show the US military have also been deployed to the scene having arrived by helicopter.
Walmart have just released a statement.

CNN – Three suspects are in custod after the shooting in El Paso, the city’s mayor told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer.
“This is a tragedy that I’m having a hard time getting my arms around, frankly,” Mayor Dee Margo said with his voice breaking.
Multiple people are dead, and several people have been transported to the hospital, El Paso Police Sgt. Enrique Castillo said in a press briefing.
Police said they are searching multiple scenes in addition to the Walmart where the shooting reportedly took place. Castillo said there is no imminent threat to the community.
A reunification center has been set up at MacArthur Intermediate School in El Paso, Castillo added.

In breaking news, the American Center for Law and Justice or ACLJ (Jay Sekulow’s organization, not related to his role as the President’s attorney), has obtained actual copies of the immunity agreements pertaining to Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson in the Hillary email scandal. This was a stunning litigation win, hard-fought after years of litigation by the ACLJ attorneys, who were unable to extract the documents through the normal FOIA processes, due to a lack of cooperation by the government.
In reviewing what the agreements uncovered, keep in mind that Cheryl Mills was Secretary Clinton’s Chief of Staff at the State Department and then bizarrely, she subsequently served as Clinton’s attorney, representing her in the email scandal. Heather Samuelson worked on Hillary Clinton’s 2008 campaign, and then became a Senior Advisor to her at the State Department, as well as the White House liaison. Somehow, she also became one of Clinton’s personal attorneys during the email scandal.
The immunity agreements issued by the government, were crafted so that the agencies could extract information from the parties, despite the fact that this is not necessary because DOJ has the power to require that the information be turned over. Clinton kept classified emails on a private server in violation of Federal law, and the immunity agreements reveal that both Cheryl Mills and Heather Samuelson were actively involved in the cover-up of these emails as well as in the destruction of evidence. According to Jordon Sekulow, Executive Director of the ACLJ, it is extremely unusual for someone involved in a criminal cover up, who needs an immunity deal to ensure the evasion of jail time, later becomes the attorney representing the other potential criminal or co-conspirator.

VICE NEWS – Far-Right Extremists Are Threatening to Burn Down German Kindergartens for Taking Pork Off Their Menus
Two kindergartens in the German city of Leipzig have been receiving death and arson threats after they announced plans to remove pork from their menus out of consideration for Muslim children.
Far-right extremists seized on the proposed menu changes, targeting staff with violent threats and railing against the kindergartens on social media, turning the administrative decision into a national talking point.
The incident, which saw the kindergartens placed under police guard for their safety, is the latest striking illustration of how unhinged the debate around immigration, identity and Islam has become in Germany under the influence of far-right agitators.
“The debate shows how widespread anti-Muslim racism is, and how openly hatred is now being articulated,” Viola Schmidt, spokeswoman for the anti-racism watchdog Amadeu Antonio Foundation, told VICE News. She added that the Leipzig case was especially disturbing as it had involved threats against childcare centers.
Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung revealed the extent of the threats in a Facebook post Tuesday, writing that they had included threats — delivered both in writing and in person — to stab those responsible for the changes through the heart, beat up staff until they were unable to work, and burn down the facilities if pork was not restored to the menu.
He said the outpouring of hate had left him “speechless.”
“In 2019, kindergartens are threatened when they change their menu, because it does not fit a small-minded picture of the world,” he wrote.
He singled out the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, which had publicly rallied against the proposed menu change as a sign of creeping Islamization of Germany and the impending demise of Western civilization, for fueling the unhinged response.
“The decline of western civilization,” Jung wrote, “is not the result of those who, for whatever reason, have a different food culture than is common at the traditional German table, but because of those who have lost their moral compass.”
Asked for its response to Jung’s remarks Friday, the AfD doubled-down on its attacks.
“It is high time to oppose this madness,” Beatrix von Storch, an AfD MP, told VICE News. “Mettbrötchen (minced pork buns), pork schnitzel and non-halal gummi bears are normal in Germany — everything else is not normal, and will never become the norm.”
Police in Leipzig have made no arrests over the threats so far.
Amadeu Antonio Foundation spokeswoman Schmidt said the situation hadn’t “come of the blue,” but was a product of the far-right’s incessant agitation over immigration, specifically from Muslim countries.
The AfD, which is particularly strong in eastern states like Saxony, where Leipzig is situated, has grown in power by steadily hammering a narrative that Germany is under threat from Islam, capitalizing on anxieties over Germany’s decision to welcome about a million asylum seekers during the height of Europe’s migrant crisis in 2015. Last year, the party’s anti-Islam messaging included a campaign explicitly calling for “Islam-free schools.”
“It’s a very dangerous narrative as it implies an attack situation, and suggests that those who are attacked must defend themselves,” said Schmidt. “In the end, this narrative legitimizes violence.”
While the AfD bear much of the blame for the latest bit of toxic rhetoric, Schmidt also singled out Merkel’s conservative Christian Democratic Union for contributing to the hysteria over the issue, in a demonstration of how the AfD’s narratives were leaching into the political mainstream. The CDU’s Saxony branch, which had branded the kindergartens’ plans as unacceptable, did not respond to a VICE News request for comment.
Josef Janning, head of the Berlin office of the European Council on Foreign Relations, told VICE News that the incident was also a reflection of Saxony’s relative lack of diversity, in contrast to more cosmopolitan parts of the country.
The conservative eastern state is a stronghold for the AfD, which is narrowly trailing the governing CDU in polls ahead of next month’s state elections, and the birthplace of the anti-Islam PEGIDA street movement. Last September, the Saxon city of Chemnitz was the scene of violent far-right protests, while in March last year, eight members of a neo-Nazi terror cell were convicted in the Saxon town of Freital.
“In those parts of the country with a long record of immigration… it is normal to cater for the specific needs of children,” he said. “In Saxony, that is not so firmly established, and in the absence of much diversity, these choices have become politicized by nationalist actors.”
The threats on the kindergartens have come at a time of particular sensitivity over racial issues in Germany. Last month, a 26-year-old Eritrean man narrowly survived an unprovoked, racially-motivated shooting in the town of Wächtersbach; on Monday, an eight-year-old boy was killed in Frankfurt when he was pushed in front of a train by a man of Eritrean origin.
The AfD were swift to seize on the Frankfurt killing as evidence that Germans’ safety was being jeopardized by the country’s welcoming stance towards immigrants, prompting Interior Minister Horst Seehofer to issue a call for restraint. “The sense of security among the public is very strained right now,” he said Wednesday. “We cannot allow either the exploitation, nor the downplaying, of crimes by immigrants.”

“According to the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ), the 39-year-old Moroccan prisoner escaped at 1 pm. The German news outlet reports that he took advantage of an exit permit to climb the 5.50-meter high fence reinforced with two rolls of NATO wire at the top.
FAZ reported that the police asked motorists to remain vigilant and warned against taking hitchhikers in the region. A helicopter was also mobilized during searches over Preungesheim.
Police also gave a description of the fugitive to the public. The Moroccan national is described as a man of stout build wearing a red shirt and gray pants. He sustained an injury to the head while escaping.
According to the German Ministry of Justice, quoted by FAZ, the man had been serving a sentence at the prison in Frankfurt-Preungesheim IV. The prison has a security level 2. The institution does not have a high-security wing and hosts prisoners who are due for release.
The Ministry’s spokesman clarified that the inmate was not a violent offender.”

“President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday laid the foundation stone for the first new church in Turkey since it became a modern republic in 1923.
The church in the Istanbul suburb of Yesilkoy will serve the 17,000-strong Syriac Christian community, which is also paying for the new building.
“It is the Turkish republic’s duty to meet the need for space to worship for the Syriac community, who are the ancient children of this geography,” Erdogan said during the stone-laying ceremony.
Syriac Christians are part of the eastern Christian tradition and pray in Aramaic, which Jesus is believed to have spoken.
Erdogan said he hoped the construction of the Syriac Orthodox Mor Ephrem Church would be completed within two years.
He had ordered the Istanbul metropolitan municipality to find space for the building in 2009 while he was prime minister.
It is being built on land belonging to the Latin Catholic Church and which is part of an Italian cemetery, the head of the Beyoglu Virgin Mary Syriac Orthodox Church Foundation in Istanbul, Sait Susin, said.
In recent years, Turkey has restored and reopened churches but the Islamic-rooted government has been criticised for trying to Islamicise the official secular country.
Christian minorities including Armenians have also complained of being treated as second-class citizens in the Muslim-majority country.
Christians make up around 0.2 percent of the total population in Turkey.
But Erdogan sought to extend a hand to other communities in the country of 82 million, saying “don’t forget, this country, this state belongs to everyone”.
“Anyone who has affection for, contributes to and is loyal to Turkey is a first-class citizen. There are no barriers to anyone in politics, trade or any other area.”
Official statistics show 98 percent of the Turkish population is Muslim but a poll by Konda group earlier this year showed the number of people identifying as atheist rose from one to three percent between 2008 and 2018.
In the same survey, 51 percent said they were religious in 2018 compared with 55 percent in 2008, although the number of those who said they were a “believer” rose from 31 percent to 34 percent in a decade.”
