Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. From Essays in Idleness by David Warren:

    Omigod chronicles
Having been told many times that I’m not welcome here; that I should go back where I came from; that if I came from here I should nevertheless leave the country; or that I should recede in time, and go fix the problems of the 13th century; or move to any other century that will have me; … hooo, do I empathize with “The Squad.” They, too, were told they should go home (to Somalia, or the Bronx, or wherever) and fix the problems there. It was a very hurtful comment. And made by Donald Trump, on Twitter. He is worse than Hitler.
Me, too, was a victim of racism; including chrono-racism, the worst kind. (There has been a genocide against all those born before the 20th century. They’re all dead now.) I was utterly traumatized, let me tell you — so much that, in several cases, I attempted a witty rejoinder. In others, I didn’t react at all. I waited for my fellow panelists to defend me. But they didn’t have the courage. They just sat there, like grinning idiots, pretending that nothing important had happened.
I get so outraged by Donald Trump, when he tweets what most of the population are thinking; until he says it and they line up to condemn him. He is such a racist. An anti-Semite, and what makes it worse, a Zionist and an Israel-lover. A guy making jobs more plentiful for Blacks and Hispanics, just to buy them off. (What a corrupt person!) An Orange Supremacist. He even has an estate in Florida.
A Fascist, who wants to enforce immigration laws. There are concentration camps all along the Mexican border now, with millions of people trying to get into them.
Why do you think people elected Trump? Because Vladimir Putin told them to do so. That’s what made them think he’d be okay. But he’s a Russian agent. Probably an Iranian agent, too.
Trump is putting tariffs on the poor, innocent, defenceless Red Chinese, so that we can’t buy them at Walmart any more. His wife is from Slovenia. He must have bought her in the slave market at Ljubljana, and smuggled her in Air Force One.
Time to impeach him: before he wins another election. And don’t wait another minute! For it could be a landslide next time.

  2. The way to the truth and the life.

I was discussing in Eastern Europe with an Orthodox friend, a condition where they faint at a trigger of a certain suggestion. This being uncovered after many years with a psychotherapist and based upon a known and recognized traumatic incident way back in childhood.

Phantom limb syndrome is the same. You know when the accident occurred, you know how it happened, by whom and by what means, and yet still the phantom limb lives on in you affecting your every moment.

The cure, discovered by the neurologist Ramachandran, was to hold up a mirror and see the ‘arm’ once again, to grieve and say goodbye, and let it go.

This is the same for youth in a fixation of love of unreciprocated desire. The Perfect Person. The movie star. Muhammad. Jesus. Until that is, you actually meet them. And the myth is blown forever.
Instantly coming out of the trance due to the imperfections of the human animal. [In order to keep Religions going their heroes we are told are not like us but wear sacred hats].

Kings ordered their subjects to avert their eyes right up until they developed pomp and pagent.

The Gays are not like us, nor the Communists, and not the muslims. They Parade to intimidate in their conformity to themselves and their unlikeness to any sane person.

So my advice to all those who live under these spells, inadvertently or deliberately induced by seduction or cruelty, is to go back to the source of the glazed-over fantasy, stand in the presence of your most feared or loved, and realize it never happened and could never have possibly occurred in the way you thought it had. A realization. An epiphany. Reclaiming your rationality back upstairs.

Those failing to recreate the moment – of facing their fears of unworthiness – can try the trick of hypnotherapy to recreate the dreamstate of re-living and facing the memory of their protagonist, and allowing the therapist to draw in the blanks, the actual rational details that you missed in the situation of tunnel vision. To then give back the cup you took from the terrible or awesome. For what is theirs is theirs what is yours is yours.

I win, you win. There is no finer relationship. Those who shoot fish in a barrel are the ones you to be acutely aware of.

  3. Imran Khan admits Pakistan LIED to US over terror groups: ‘We have 40,000 militants!’ (express, Jul 24, 2019)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1157144/imran-khan-pakistan-us-washington-terror-groups-karachi-militants-spt

“IMRAN KHAN owned up to US President Donald Trump that his predecessors’ refused to disclose the vast number of terrorists operating inside Pakistan.

Khan was speaking after concluding talks with Trump at the White House, which marked a rare upturn in relations between Karachi and Washington. The Pakistan Prime Minister said that previous governments let down the peace process by not disclosing details about the 40 terror groups inside the nation. He also said that there previously was no “political will” to disarm the groups – but that his own administration would take a very different approach.

The former Pakistan cricket captain said: “We were fighting the US war on terror. Pakistan has nothing to do with 9/11. Al-Qaeda was in Afghanistan.

“There were no militant Taliban in Pakistan but we joined the US war.

“Unfortunately, when things went wrong, where I blame my government, we did not tell the US exactly the truth on the ground.”

This was, according to the Prime Minister, due to the lack of control exerted by previous governments.

Pakistan was not concerned about the war on terror, because it was too busy ensuring its own survival amid internal tensions.

He added: “There were 40 different militant groups operating within Pakistan. So Pakistan went through a period where people like us were worried about could we survive it.

“So while the US expected us to do more and help the US win the war, Pakistan at that time was fighting for its own existence.”

The US began working with Pakistan in the so-called ‘War on Terror’ in 2002, a year after 9/11 – but the relationship yielded mixed results.

While the Pakistani army carried out several successful anti-terror operations, they were also accused of turning a blind eye to militant groups – which Khan has just admitted.

The 66-year-old, who was elected in 2018, said his government would do their utmost to cooperate with Washington.

He said: “Until we came into power, the governments did not have the political will, because when you talk about militant groups we still have about 30,000 to 40,000 armed people who have been trained and fought in some part of Afghanistan or Kashmir.

“We are the first government that has started disarming militant groups.

“This is the first time it’s happening. We’ve taken over their institutes, their seminaries. We have administrators there.”

Khan told the US that the process would be complex and drawn out, however.

He said: “So far, we have done pretty well.

“Do not expect this to be easy, because it is a very complicated situation in Afghanistan. But rest assured, we would be trying our best.

“The whole country is standing behind me. The Pakistan Army, the security forces, all are behind me.

“We all have one objective and it is exactly the same objective as the US, which is to have a peaceful solution as quickly as possible in Afghanistan.”

The comments came after Trump praised the Pakistani leader – a year after accusing the previous administration of “lies and deceit”.

He added: “We have a new leader, he is going be a great leader of Pakistan.

“I think Pakistan is going to do a lot. I really do.””

  4. Ilhan Omar Also Called for Opponent to Be ‘Deported’ (breitbart, Jul 23, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/07/23/ilhan-omar-also-called-for-opponent-to-be-deported/

“Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was found Tuesday to have told a political opponent in the past that she needed to be deported — using a rhetorical tactic that Democrats have said is “un-American” and “racist.”

Last Sunday, President Donald Trump tweeted that Omar and three other far-left Democratic congresswomen in the so-called “Squad” should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came” and then “come back and show us how it is done.”

He did not call for them to be deported, and later clarified that he meant simply that if they did not like the U.S., they should leave.

Some members of a large rally crowd in North Carolina chanted “Send her back,” in reference to Omar, during Trump’s speech there last Wednesday. The president disavowed it the next day.

But Omar has, in fact, called for an opponent to be deported. Her tweet, from 2012, was unearthed as a similar tweet from Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) — one of the other “Squad” members — surfaced, in which she declared “Deport this asshole!” in 2015.

Omar’s tweet read: “we are citizens & can’t be deported, why don’t we deport you to where ever you came from.”

Omar was responding to a thread of comments on an article about how a mayor in Maine said that Somali immigrants to the community should “accept our culture and leave your culture at the door.”

During the course of the debate, Omar defended the right of Somalis not to assimilate: “Most people I know keep and maintain their culture,” she said, adding, “[d]on’t expect us to change either. We have as much right to be here as you.”

One of her interlocutors, who appears to be female and has a “protected” account, seems to have brought up deportation. Omar’s reference to deportation seems to have been a response.

Nevertheless, she and Tlaib are guilty of the very thing they are accusing Trump of doing — and worse, since he specifically disagreed with calls for them to be sent “back” voluntarily.

(Tlaib, who has emphasized her family’s Palestinian origins, was born in Michigan.)

One observer suggested that telling opponents to leave the country was, in fact, a common tactic in heated political debate:…

Tlaib also seemed to have used the phrase on other occasions:…

Trump did not mention race or color in his tweets, but his opponents, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), have specifically done so. Pelosi claimed that Trump wanted to “make America white again.””

  5. Locals Claim Swedish City Centre Deteriorating Due to Violence and Drugs (breitbart, Jul 24, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/07/24/locals-claim-swedish-city-centre-deteriorating-violence-drugs/

“Locals in the Swedish city of Gothenburg claim the centre of the city had greatly deteriorated as violence, robberies, and drugs have become more common.

In only a week, two people have been stabbed to death in central Gothenburg and now locals are coming forward, claiming the area of the city has become so dangerous, some refuse to visit the area alone at night, Aftonbladet reports.

Local taxi driver Imad El-Saneh, who has worked in the area since the early 1990s, said the centre now has more drugs and more weapons on the streets saying: “It has become much worse than in the 90s. It’s more people, more drugs and people care less about what they do.”

The 52-year-old blamed a lack of police patrols on foot, saying he only sees officers in their cars and described how some of his customers have been robbed near the Nordstan shopping centre where a 19-year-old was killed on Friday.

Local residents Frida Eriksson and Mikhail Ngibun both expressed their concerns over the state of the area with Eriksson saying: “At some point, it will be my or my friends turn to get hurt. To be robbed or raped.” Ngibun said he tried to avoid the area at night entirely.

Thomas Fuxborg, Gothenburg police press spokesman, claimed the police simply do not have the resources for foot patrols and blamed recent problems in the area on the summer weather and the Gothia Cup youth football tournament.

The subject of robberies in Gothenburg was addressed by broadcaster TV4 recently with expert Sven-Erik Alhem advising people to dress as though they look poor and do not own anything valuable to avoid being robbed.

For years, Sweden has released a list of so-called “vulnerable areas”, often referred to as no-go zones, across the country where crime rates and unemployment are much higher than national averages.

This year, some municipalities attempted to have the list censored from public view in order not to harm local investment opportunities.”

  6. Taliban kill 4 Afghan police in attack on checkpoint (abcnews, Jul 24, 2019)

“An Afghan official says the Taliban have attacked a checkpoint in the western Farah province, killing at least four police and wounding another two.

Mohibullah Mohib, spokesman for the provincial police chief, says two insurgents were killed in the shootout late Tuesday.

The Taliban claimed the attack. The insurgents have continued to launch daily assaults, mainly targeting security forces, even while holding negotiations with the United States aimed at ending the 18-year war.”

  8. Germany: Turk prays on sidewalk – passerby and residents protest against it+++
After an insult last night in the Berlin district of Spandau, there was a violent clash. According to previous findings, a 38-year-old man was first allegedly insulted by an unknown person as he unfolded his prayer rug on the sidewalk of Seegefelder Street at about 8.30 p.m. and then physically attacked. The Muslim then fought back with a bicycle lock. A local resident, who had noticed the dispute, threw filled bags at the 38-year-old and allegedly insulted him.The State Security Police at the Berlin State Criminal Investigation Office has taken over further investigations. Spiegel Online reports that the 38-year-old man is Turkish.I suspect that the German state security will not investigate against the Muslim provocateur who blocked a public sidewalk, but against the courageous German citizens who opposed it.

  10. China takes aim at U.S., Taiwan in new military blueprint

BEIJING – China sharpened its hostility toward the United States and Taiwan in a new high-level report on its future military strategy that accused Washington and its allies of undermining global stability.

Releasing the document on Wednesday, officials of the People’s Liberation Army repeatedly warned that Beijing would be willing to deploy military force to assert its claims over Taiwan. The self-ruled island has pulled closer to the Trump administration and agreed this month to buy $2.2 billion in weapons, including M1A2T Abrams tanks and Stinger missiles.

  11. China-Russia joint exercise sends a message to Washington

Beijing (AFP) – An unprecedented joint China-Russia bomber patrol over disputed territory off the coast of South Korea and Japan was a “massive development” in their bid to challenge US influence in the region, analysts said Wednesday.

The joint patrol caused outcry from Washington’s two main allies in the region after both Tokyo and Seoul claimed a Russian plane violated their airspace.

Seoul said a Russian warplane twice entered South Korean airspace near the disputed Dokdo islets — which Tokyo also claims and calls Takeshima — and that it fired warning shots in return. Japan also said it scrambled fighter jets in response.

“It’s a big deal because it displays confidence that the air forces of the two nations can coordinate a patrol of this nature in ways that the region will almost certainly find destabilising,” said Lyle Morris, senior policy analyst at RAND Corporation.

BEIJING (Reuters) – China warned on Wednesday that it was ready for war if there was any move toward Taiwan’s independence, accusing the United States of undermining global stability and denouncing its arms sales to the self-ruled island.

The Pentagon said this month the U.S. State Department had approved sales of weapons requested by Taiwan, including tanks and Stinger missiles estimated to be worth $2.2 billion.

  13. Joint Russian-Chinese air ops: That’s no ‘patrol,’ that’s a can of strategic ‘In your face’
    By J.E. Dyer July 24, 2019

If you need a key to understanding why South Korea would respond to a claimed air space violation by a Russian aircraft with 360 machine gun rounds from some of the 18 jet fighters scrambled in reaction, here it is.

The air space violation was part of a joint joy-ride on 23 July 2019 by Russian and Chinese strategic bombers around the Far East.

That would be Russian and Chinese strategic bombers: the ones that form a leg of each nuclear-armed nation’s strategic “triad” (air-launched, ground-launched, and sea-launched nuclear weapons). The Russian bombers were flying in conjunction with Chinese H-6 bombers, which South Korea said were the variant capable of delivering nuclear payloads (presumably the H-6K, the platform that serves as China’s strategic bomber).

The aircraft said by Seoul to be in actual air space violation was an airborne command and control platform, an A-50 “Mainstay” (NATO name), whose role is directing air combat. (The A-50 is similar to the U.S./NATO E-3A Sentry.) It wasn’t one of the bombers. A Chinese KJ-2000, the A-50’s counterpart, was also reported to be involved in the air operation.

    https://libertyunyielding.com/2019/07/24/joint-russian-chinese-air-ops-thats-no-patrol-thats-a-can-of-strategic-in-your-face/

    • As she points out this was an intimidation move by Russia and China. Looking at it frmo one angle this is a good sign, it shows that the sanctions are hurting China and they are reacting trying to get our two allies (South Korean and Japan) to put pressure on Trump to ease off on China. The problem with using this approach is that it can as easily have the reverse effect and cause Trump to crack down furth4er4.

We know that the Sanctions on China and separate sanctions on Russia are hurting them but I didn’t think that Russia was hurting that bad.

  14. Afghan police pull back from isolated outposts as losses mount (trtworld, Jul 24, 2019)
    https://www.trtworld.com/asia/afghan-police-pull-back-from-isolated-outposts-as-losses-mount-28483

“Afghanistan’s badly stretched police are taking heavy casualties as attempts build to set up peace talks with Taliban militants, prompting a move to pull back from vulnerable outposts across the country.

US advisers have for years pushed commanders to abandon isolated checkpoints that serve little purpose beyond showing a presence but which act as a magnet for attacks by mobile Taliban fighters, increasingly armed with night-vision equipment.

Following a change at the top of the interior ministry last year, officials say 6,452 police outposts and checkpoints all over Afghanistan are being assessed as part of efforts to reduce losses and cut the rate of desertion by police who feel abandoned by their commanders.

Abdul Moqim Abdulrahimzai, the director general of operations and plans at the interior ministry, said more than 210 police outposts and checkpoints had been closed in 17 provinces and another 200 had been identified for closure.

“These remote outposts did not contribute to security and were sitting ducks, a soft target for the Taliban to pick on them,” Abdulrahimzai said.

“…Those areas will not be abandoned but will remain under our close surveillance and we will respond to security threats when needed,” he said.

Fawad Aman, the deputy spokesman for the Ministry of Defense, said the government was also planning to merge several small, remote army outposts into larger bases.

The government no longer issues detailed casualty figures but officials say around half of the tens of thousands of losses suffered over the years were at isolated checkpoints.

Over the last three years, the 200 outposts identified for closure suffered 5,000 attacks that killed 2,260 police and wounded 3,601, according to an interior ministry document seen by Reuters.

At just one outpost in a remote area of the southern province of Helmand, more than 300 police were killed during dozens of insurgent attacks in the same period.

President Ashraf Ghani said last year 28,000 police and soldiers had been killed since 2015, with US commanders warning that such losses are unsustainable. US officers estimate that forces operating mainly from checkpoints suffer around double the level of casualties as forces on manoeuvre.

The issue has gained renewed importance as the Taliban negotiate with the United States over a timetable for the withdrawal of US troops as a first step towards opening full peace talks with the Afghan government.

At the same time, apparently aiming to strengthen their negotiating position, the Taliban have stepped up attacks on security forces, which have been heavily dependent on US air support and intelligence.

A mixture of institutional inertia, lack of training and a fear of being seen to abandon ground to the Taliban has helped keep hundreds of ineffective checkpoints open, observers say.

Some police commanders also use highway checkpoints to levy illegal tolls from motorists and Abdulrahimzai said a number of checkpoints along the highway connecting the capital Kabul to the strategic southern province of Kandahar had been removed because the police extorted money from truck drivers.

As the pullback continues, however, officials must persuade the public that it means more than just abandoning ground to the Taliban.

“Since the checkpoints have been removed, the Taliban usually come on the road and stop cars for inspection,” said Mohammad Aref, a taxi driver who travels the Kabul-Kandahar highway every day.

“At least the checkpoints gave us a sense of security. Now there is none.”

Croatian soldier dies in Afghanistan suicide attack

A Croatian soldier serving in Afghanistan died and two others were seriously injured in a suicide attack on their convoy outside Kabul on Wednesday, authorities said.

It was the first Croatian fatality in Afghanistan since the former Yugoslav republic and NATO member deployed troops there in 2003.

The soldiers were en route to Kabul airport when a motorbike carrying a suicide bomber slammed into one of their vehicles, Croatian Defence Minister Damir Krsticevic told a news conference in Zagreb.

One of the soldiers, identified as Josip Briski, suffered serious head injuries in the blast and later died in the US-operated military hospital at Bagram airfield, the defence ministry and presidency said in statements.

“The serviceman received the maximum medical assistance at the hospital in Bagram … but he died due to the severity of his injuries,” the ministry said.

Krsticevic said the other two servicemen, who received arm and leg injuries, were stable. “It was an isolated attack and all other members of the Croatian contingent are safe,” he added.

The three soldiers were part of Croatia’s 23-strong advisory team, which is under British command and is tasked with training Afghan police.”

    https://www.thenational.ae/world/europe/man-jailed-for-15-years-for-remote-controlled-car-terror-plot-in-uk-1.890313

“A man has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment for planning a terror attack using a remote-controlled car filled with explosives in the UK.

Farhad Salah’s plot was foiled in the early stages when counter-terrorism police raided his home in Sheffield, northern England.

The 24-year-old, a supporter of ISIS, was found with extremist material including films of murder and torture.

After a six-week trial at Sheffield crown court, a jury found him guilty of preparing acts of terrorism.

Salah, who is originally from Iraq, had hoped to harm others without harming himself, the court heard during the trial.

A second man, chip shop owner Andy Star, 32, of Chesterfield, was also arrested but the jury failed to reach a verdict in his case.

Anne Whyte QC, prosecuting, had previously told the court: “The prosecution allege that he had decided that improvised explosive devices could be made and used in a way here in the UK that spared their own lives preferably but harmed others they considered to be infidels.”

Salah sent a message a week before the raid on his home, which read: “My only attempt is to find a way to carry out martyrdom operation with cars without driver, everything is perfect only the programme is left.”

Ms Whyte said that Salah, who arrived in the UK in 2010, had expressed a desire to fight in ISIS occupied territory but had not been able to travel to the Middle East because of his unsettled immigration status.

His application for asylum was unresolved at the time of his arrest in December 2017.

The judge Paul Watson QC sentenced Salah to 18 years, including a 15-year jail term with an extended three-year period on licence.”

  18. HUGE: Ted Cruz Demands RICO Investigation Into ANTIFA

Ted Cruz is formally requesting a RICO investigation into Antifa for its violent, criminal activities.

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) requested FBI Director Christopher Wray begin a RICO investigation into Antifa, citing its violent action in Portland, Oregon that saw journalist Andy Ngo hospitalized with a brain hemorrhage and the recent Antifa domestic terrorist attack in Tacoma, Washington in which a member of Antifa attacked a migrant detention facility armed with an AR-15 rifle and Molotov cocktails.

Cruz is one of the only members of Congress who are actively calling for investigations into Antifa, and he doubled down on his position when questioning Wray earlier today.

“Let me turn to a final topic, which is an area of concern for me, which is a group that has called itself Antifa, which ironically is short for anti fascism, and yet they engage in the conduct of fascists,” said Cruz. “They engage in violent protests, masked men and women engaging in physical violence. We saw recently the Rose City chapter of Antifa in Portland Oregon that was assaulting citizens and disrupting traffic, violently assaulted one journalist so severely that he was hospitalized for brain hemorrhage.”

Cruz then spoke of the Tacoma terrorist attack.

  19. ‘Floating Bomb’: UN Warns Deserted Oil Tanker in Red Sea Threatens to Turn Into Major Disaster (sputniknews, Jul 24, 2019)

“A floating terminal with over a million barrels of oil docked near the Houthi-controlled coast of war-torn Yemen has been decaying for several years, according to experts. It is feared that toxic gases released from it could result in an explosion and an oil spill covering thousands of square kilometres, killing maritime life in the area.

The United Nations has expressed alarm over the abandoned Safer FSO (which stands for floating storage and offloading) tanker, left unattended off the war-torn Yemeni coast of Al Hudaydah and eroding since 2015, CNBC reports. The UN warned that the vessel, believed to hold 1.14 million barrels of oil, could explode or be torn apart, releasing the crude into the environment, which could result in it becoming one of the worst such man-made disasters.

The platform was earlier branded a “massive floating bomb” in the Red Sea by the NATO-linked US think tank the Atlantic Council. They predicted that volatile gases released from the storage tank in the corrosive maritime environment could lead to a blast.

At the same time, UN officials are said to be blocked from the vessel despite the potential danger and cannot inspect the situation or do anything to avert a possible catastrophe.

Although the Houthi authorities that control the area where the tanker is anchored reportedly requested help and promised to assist in 2018, UN Undersecretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs Matt Lowcock recently revealed to the Security Council that access continues to be delayed.

“If the tanker ruptures or explodes, we could see the coastline polluted all along the Red Sea. Depending on the time of year and water currents, the spill could reach from Bab el Mandeb to the Suez Canal — and potentially as far as the Strait of Hormuz”, Lowcock said, as cited by the US broadcaster, pointing at the potentially disastrous impact on the environment, regional shipping, and the global economy.

Meanwhile, the Saudi-backed Yemeni government has raised alarm that the Safer FSO could explode, triggering an environmental disaster that could be greater than the Exxon Valez oil spill in 1989.

The ongoing conflict between the Houthis and the Yemini government, backed by Saudi Arabia and the UN, is said to have complicated the issue, with both sides pointing the finger at the other. The Houthis are reportedly ready to allow inspectors to assess the situation on condition that they receive the profit from selling the oil on board the Safer FSO tanker, which is estimated to be worth more than $70 million.

Yemen has been suffering from a military conflict and related humanitarian crisis for several years. It began when Houthi rebels from the country’s north drove the government from power in a protracted mass upheaval between September 2014 and March 2015.”

  20. Amazon Removes Danish Filmmaker’s Islam Documentary (breitbart, Jul 24, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2019/07/24/amazon-removes-danish-filmmakers-islam-documentary/

“A documentary by independent filmmaker Michael Hansen about mass migration and Islam in Europe, entitled Killing Europe, has been removed by Amazon from its Prime Video service. Amazon cited “quality assurance” concerns — despite the fact that the documentary had been hosted on the platform since 2017 without issue.

Amazon’s censorship came shortly after Breitbart News covered Hansen’s new documentary, Killing Free Speech, which addresses the rise of Antifa and big tech censorship in the United States.

In its message to Hansen, Amazon said his previous documentary (which is still available on YouTube) does not meet “customer content quality expectations.” Amazon would not respond to repeated requests from Hansen for the company to specify what content failed to meet its criteria. The documentary had previously been hosted on Amazon since 2017.

Amazon did not return Breitbart News’ request for comment, but its full email to Hansen was obtained by Breitbart News and is copied below:

Thank you for using Prime Video Direct.

In part one of his new documentary, Killing Free Speech, Hansen says he intends to warn Americans about the dangers of a European approach to free speech. Originally from Denmark, Hansen says he has witnessed how Antifa and other far-left activists have been able to shut down political expression in the public square in Europe with minimal opposition — and even outright support — from politicians.

“20 years ago you started to see Antifa taking over the streets in Europe. Right now what it is in Europe, if you are conservative you cannot have a street protest — you’re going to get attacked by Antifa. That’s well established.”

“What I fear is that here in the U.S. you’re starting to see the beginnings of the same thing. If you’re conservative nowadays, you gotta run a gauntlet between these armed thugs. If you’re not careful here in the United States you’re going to lose that public space, it’s happening rapidly.”

Part Two of Killing Free Speech, which features an interview with this reporter, will be released later in the year.

  24. Ilhan Omar ‘Disgusted’ by Muslim Woman Asking Her to Condemn FGM (breitbart, Jul 24, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2019/07/23/ilhan-omar-disgusted-muslim-woman-asking-her-condemn-fgm/

“Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) lambasted a female Muslim audience member Tuesday for asking her to renounce female genital mutilation (FGM), a practice common in Omar’s native Somalia.

Omar was reportedly taking questions an event for the Muslim Collective for Equitable Democracy event when Muslim audience member Ani Osman-Zonneveld of Muslims for Progressive Values asked Omar to condemn FGM.

Omar said she was “disgusted” by people who ask Muslim politicians specific questions on issues and groups embraced by extreme members of their religion – such as FGM, al-Qaeda, and Hamas – and called it a “waste” of time.

“I am, I think, quite disgusted I think to be honest that as Muslim legislators, we are constantly being asked to waste our time speaking to issues that other people are not asked to speak to because of the assumption exist that we somehow support and are for [the issue],” Omar said, according to BuzzFeed News.

She urged audience members to think twice before asking Muslim lawmakers questions, pressing them to ensure that it is a “proper question that they would probably ask any member of Congress, any legislator, [or] any politician.”

While Omar condemned FGM as “abhorrent,” she continued to focus on the sentiment of the question, claiming that she and fellow “Squad” member and Muslim Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) are held to different standards than non-Muslim members of Congress.

    Omar said:

The question is posed: Could you and Rashida do this? And it’s like how often — should I make a schedule? Does this need to be on repeat every five minutes? Should I be like, so today I forgot to condemn al-Qaeda, so here’s the al-Qaeda one. Today I forgot to condemn FGM, so here we go. Today I forgot to condemn Hamas.

“You know, I mean, like, it is a very frustrating question that comes up,” Omar continued.

“So I would like, not just for you, but for everyone to know that if you want us to speak as politicians, American politicians, then you treat us as such,” she added.

FGM is a procedure in which a woman or, often, girl’s outer genitalia are partially or completely removed, typically by older women. It is common in eastern Africa and not an exclusively Muslim practice, nor do many Muslims outside of the region engage in FGM. In Somalia, however, where Omar and a growing number of her constituents in Minnesota were born, some estimate that as many as 95 percent of girls undergo FGM.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimated this year that “more than 500,000 women and girls in the United States are at risk of or have been subjected to FGM/C (Female Genital Mutilation or Cutting).”

Omar has recently been accused of having sympathy for terrorist groups, following a resurfaced video from 2013 featuring Omar drawing “a moral equivalence between radical Islamic terror and ‘the violence that is done [by] the West,’” Breitbart News reported. However, Omar did not endorse terrorist organizations like al-Qaeda.

Last week, Omar and Tlaib introduced a controversial resolution aimed to support the antisemitic Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel. Omar compared the BDS movement to the Boston Tea Party and likened Israel to the terrorist organization, Hamas…”

“A suicide bomber walked into the office of Mogadishu’s mayor and detonated explosives strapped to his waist, killing six people and badly wounding the mayor minutes after a visit from the new United Nations envoy, Somali officials said Wednesday.

The attack claimed by the al-Shabab extremist group occurred after the envoy to Somalia, James Swan, paid the mayor a “courtesy call” and left the compound, an official at the mayor’s office told The Associated Press. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

The U.N. mission in Somalia in a tweet before the bombing posted photos of the smiling mayor and envoy, saying Swan had received an overview of the “challenges” in the region.

The mayor, Abdirahman Omar Osman, and his deputy were rushed to a hospital with critical wounds, police Capt. Mohamed Hussein said.

Somalia’s information minister Mohamed Abdi Hayir said six officials were killed and six others were wounded. He told reporters the mayor was being treated and gave no further details. He also confirmed an investigation was underway.

A Somali intelligence official said the officials killed included two district commissioners, two local government directors and a senior adviser to the mayor. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.

It was not clear how the bomber managed to enter the mayor’s office during a security meeting. Some security officials said the attacker might have coordinated with corrupt officials, offering them bribes for access…”

  33. 6,000 Unregistered Migrants Arrested in Istanbul (aawsat, Jul 24, 2019)
    https://aawsat.com/english/home/article/1827316/6000-unregistered-migrants-arrested-istanbul

“A crackdown on unregistered migrants in Istanbul has seen 6,000 arrests, including Afghans and Syrians, in the past two weeks, Turkey’s interior minister said Wednesday.

“We have been carrying out an operation since July 12… We have caught 6,122 people in Istanbul, including 2,600 Afghans,” Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu told TV station NTV.

He said Syrians were part of the group, without giving numbers.

There has been concern in recent days over reports that hundreds of Syrian refugees have been sent back to Syria, after being forced to sign consent forms in Turkish that they do not understand.

    Soylu denied the claims.

“When we catch Syrians who are not registered, we send them to refugee camps,” he said, citing a camp in the Turkish border province of Hatay.

However, Agence France Presse quoted him as saying that some Syrians were choosing to go back to their home country “voluntarily” to areas where fighting has abated.

Turkey has more than 3.5 million Syrian refugees — the highest number in the world.

Most have “temporary protection” permits but these restrict them to the province in which they were registered. The current crackdown is aimed at those who live in Istanbul without a permit to stay in the city.

A coalition of Syrian NGOs said Monday that more than 600 Syrians — mostly with protection permits issued in other provinces — were arrested in Istanbul last week and deported back to Syria, rather than to their assigned provinces.

A survey published this month by Kadir Has University in Istanbul showed growing hostility towards Syrians, rising from 54.5 percent of respondents in 2017 to 67.7 percent in 2019.”

  35. Turkey to cancel EU migrant deal over lack of visa-free travel (memo, Jul 24, 2019)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20190724-turkey-to-cancel-eu-migrant-deal-over-lack-of-visa-free-travel/

“Turkey’s Foreign Minister has announced that his government will no longer allow the landmark migrant deal it agreed with the European Union to function due to the continued lack of visa-free travel for Turkish citizens.

“We will not wait at the EU’s door,” Mevlut Çavu?o?lu told Turkish news channel TGRT Haber on Monday. “The readmission agreement and visa-free deal will be put into effect at the same time.”

Turkey and the regional bloc signed the agreement in 2016 as a solution for the rapid influx of refugees into Europe, most of whom passed through Turkey. As part of the deal, the EU promised to provide a total of €6 billion in financial aid to the country, and guaranteed that Turkish citizens would be granted visa-free travel to EU member states.

In return for the aid and ease on travel restrictions, Turkey agreed to halt the influx of refugees and migrants into Europe by taking stricter measures against human traffickers, discouraging the dangerous methods of migration through the Aegean Sea, and improving the conditions in which the roughly 3 billion refugees within the country can live and prosper. Despite such efforts made on the Turkish side and the successful control of the flow of refugees, the EU has until now failed to deliver on its commitments under the deal.

Çavu?o?lu also addressed recent speculation on Turkey’s alleged shift in policies, insisting that the country will not leave the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) but that it will take new and independent strides in its foreign policy. “Waiting at the EU’s door for 50 more years is not possible for Turkey,” he said. “We will announce our new initiatives on foreign policy in the beginning of August.”

Today, the EU responded to Çavu?o?lu’s comments and the announcement that the refugee deal is no longer functional. The deputy chief spokesperson for the European Commission, Natasha Bertaud, claimed during a briefing in Brussels that the two sides are still committed to implementing the agreement, and that the visa-free travel will be granted to Turkey once the country continues to fulfil its part of the deal.

Throughout the past five decades, Turkey has had a long and complex relationship with the EU, having applied to join the bloc in 1963, since when it has been subject to condition after condition, with new restrictions raised every time the issue came to a head.

Relations between the two have also become particularly strained following the recent ongoing dispute over Turkey’s drilling for natural gas reserves in the eastern Mediterranean off the coast of Cyprus. The EU imposed sanctions on Turkey for this last week.”
