Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We must use it while we can.

  1. NR: While a lot of mountain climbers would likely admit to not being the most balanced individuals there are, I still maintain that Darwin would have been gobsmacked to see the following clip.

Anyone who’s read, “Into Thin Air”, can probably guess that the most bizarre segments seen below likely came from that el supremo bottleneck near Chomolunga’s apex, the ~40′ (10 m) “Hillary Step”. At least—with the Great Warmening™ making things all melty—there’s renewed hope of recovering some 200 bodies from Jeffery Dahmer’s Nepalese icebox.

Now, about Kathmandu issuing those 380 annual permits (to get all them sherpas off the dole), that’s more than one per day. All in all, it’s not much more than one summit every daylight period. So, what’s the big problem (like I was asking somewhere else just a little while ago)?

Well, first there’s the storms. It’s a safe bet that most people want to climb on days with good conditions. For one thing, if there’s bad visibility, you don’t just miss the view, you get a chance to die. For another—unless you’re a high risk, ultra-marathoner, and extreme sports phreak who’s willing to sleep rough for around $20k—there’s probably about fifty to a hundred Big Ones on the table. Did I mention that (of the seven tanks needed) oxygen is $500.00 a bottle? Hell, what’s in those things, Chateau d’Yquem?

    Are we there … Yeti?

    • The leftist politicians make their fortunes taking bribes to leave companies and entire industries alone. This is why almost all of the corporate donations go to left wing parties, when the left gets enough control over the government to be able to shut down the various companies the bribes increase from massive sums of money to stock in the companies. Then when the left turns the nation into a one political party nation they take over the companies and hand out positions in the companies as patronage jobs. This is why the “Socialist” countries have to steal their technological advances.

This is the least damaging future the west can expect if the left gains total control our our nations.

    • It seems that the battery pack in an electric vehicle is over 1000 lbs, so relying on the petrochemical industry to lighten the load is, ironically, essential:

Just make sure you never “brick” your power cells or some such foolishness. This ain’t no Maglite we’re talking about and it can run $40,000 to replace a Roadster’s 53-kWh hour pack.

Also, there’s a couple of really nasty Easter eggs stashed away in these pocket rockets. For instance: Don’t ever stand downwind from a burning electric vehicle. Metallic nickle, as in the battery’s Nickle Metal Hydride (NiMH), is a carcinogen and even a burning Tesla without its battery pack is something you’d want to avoid breathing around.

Interestingly, the battery OEMs are reaching power densities of over 400Wh/kg. My guess is there’s a 1kWh/kg holy grail lurking somewhere in some spec manual.

I just wish everybody here could have been present at my last lecture on the past, present, and future of renewable energy. As I was walking this class through the major hurdles of safely downloading several dozen kilowatts of energy (without thermally frying the whole shooting match) in the same time it takes an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle’s driver to pump a tank of gas, it was then that the vehicle’s overall carbon footprint came up.

Imagine how this class went all quiet about the edges when I politely explained to them that a brand new Tesla being driven off of the showroom floor has a substantially larger environmental footprint than an SUV. One young lady was totally flabbergasted and the observing professor had to assure this student that the batteries and other composite materials in the car are very resource or energy intensive.

The light went on (as it were) when I spelled it out to her that only after the Tesla had been driven for several thousands of miles did its gasoline-free energy footprint begin to shrink below that of an Escalade.

It’s indescribable fun to delicately shred so many of the “green” misconceptions that these poor kids have been brainwashed with. Another great example is when I ask for a showing of hands about “zero emissions”.

Literally, all of the pupils will know about this concept and are routinely stunned when I inform them that nothing on this entire planet has “zero emissions”.

Once again, I have to explain how legal terminology rarely sullies itself by accurately corresponding with scientific reality and that even a Tesla still sheds the heavy metal, cadmium, in granules of vulcanized rubber abrading from its tires along with an entire Sears catalog of different lubricants, coatings, polymers, and veeblefetzers that leave a trail of droppings to challenge any elephant herd.

Actually, I made up that last part about elephants, but the kids are still totally bewildered when they see their cherished B-52 ideals shot down in flames with my logical peashooter. It adds that extra-special verve to waving around a laser pointer for an hour and yakking about high tech.

  2. This guy seems way too old for daddy to be teaching him how to shave. And the father talks to his son(?) like he’s retarded. After I watched this commercial and vomitted into my purse, I thanked my lucky stars that I learned to shave the old-fashioned way–in the streets!

Corporate obsequiousness to PoMo deconstruction is so much more disgusting and damaging than the private version. Whoring a whole multinational business to flawed, sick ideals is no way to run an empire.

    • I lolled at “You need to see this adorable video”.
Despite the earlier backlash, Gillette doubles down on the wokeness. What are they smoking!?
I’d love to be a fly on the wall during their board meetings.

      • Like I keep saying Western Civilization is dead, there is no reviving it, all we can do is fight to remain free and rebuild another civilization.

    • And the father talks to his son(?) like he’s retarded.

Have you ever stopped to think that that the kid probably is retarded? No, not developmentally disabled, just so purposefully dumbed down by lowest common denominator everything, that the kid’s lucky to fire on half his cylinders.

Hell, at least the kid’s father is showing him how to shave. My dad couldn’t be arsed to teach me how to shave or drive. Can you believe that he even tried to tell me, “Studies show that people resent whoever teaches them how to drive.”

Hunky dory, pops. Between what you left out about how to show respect for women and why good grades are important for college (from a college graduate and career science teacher, no less), and all the beatings, I certainly learned one thing for sure.

And, after thirty years of never hearing my voice, I’d bet the farm that my father still lies about me when people ask how his son is because he doesn’t know shit about the man I’ve become or the least of my triumphs (like delivering university level science lectures with my high school diploma).

Fortunately, one of the most important life lessons I learned was teaching myself that his approbation would actually represent a blot upon my escutcheon, specially coming for someone that used to rape his teenie junior high school students.

After I watched this commercial and vomited into my purse…

Tell ya what, Johnnyu. If you keep vomiting into your purse and I keep clutching at my pearls, between the two of us, we might be able to preserve a major chunk of femininity from perishing at the hands of their “liberated womyn”.

Towards that end, I’ve gotten so “in touch” with my feminine side, that it filed a restraining order against me!

… I thanked my lucky stars that I learned to shave the old-fashioned way–in the streets!

Ah, yup! If you ever want a close shave, just get into a fight with someone carrying a straight razor. Hell, remember back in 1980s when American flyboys almost brought down Yasser’s plane over Libya? That was Arafat’s first close shave.

NOTE: — Even today, people debate over how to spell the name of modern terrorism’s grandpa. I’ll stick with “Yasser”, if only to make sure someone’s still keeping the “ass” in “Yasser”. —

Corporate obsequiousness to PoMo deconstruction is so much more disgusting and damaging than the private version.

I do believe that this is why words like “treason” continue bobbing to the surface with such frequency hereabouts. If you thought Financial Capitalism was bad, just wait until full-blown Socialist cronyism gets its toe in the door. You’ll have to disconnect the bell and keep a meat ax next to the umbrella stand just to get some sleep.

Whoring a whole multinational business to flawed, sick ideals is no way to run an empire.

Hell, any whore could tell you that, and I’m sure their favorite ones remind them all the time how they’ve got lots of cute girlfriends that need deconstructing too. And while we’re on the topic of evil empires…

PS: Research always bears such incredibly unexpected fruit. Scroll down after the clip for a brilliant takeoff on this classic lampoon. As a hardcore filker, whoever conjured up that little derivative vignette deserves a prize.

      Speaking of PoMo deconstruction:

      • NR: Hokay, now that you’ve watched the preceding, ultra-classic Robot Chicken clip, let’s go in for the text-based 2016 reboot. While not really NSFW, just its political context would probably be enough to get a Silicon Valley snowflake pink-slipped.

So, please return your seats to their full upright position, make sure your table trays are locked, and fasten your seat belts so everyone doesn’t pile up at the lavatories after wetting themselves on THIS: (To properly appreciate its dazzling genius, the previous clip is a must-watch.)

John King and Joe Biden look at each other as Obama starts to get really mad.
Obama: Oh oh oh oh, I’m sorry. I thought that Miss “I’m gonna be the First Female President in America” could manage to erase some emails without the FBI launching some public investigation up everyone’s ass! THEY STILL WON’T COME OVER TO WATCH FOOTBALL WITH ME BECAUSE OF YOU’RE STUPIDITY! YOU SHOULDN’T HAVE EVEN MADE THOSE EMAILS YOU STUPID WOMAN! Do you, you have any idea what this is gonna do to my programs-
        Phone starts to ring again.
Obama: Ah, hang on I got another call. WHAT? I’M VERY BUSY RIGHT NOW! Oh, oh well, well who’s going? Oh okay, um, I suppose I’ll go just get me a Jumbo Hot Dog. Uh, popcorn I guess, I uh, I’m not even gonna realize it’s there until it’s gone anyway. What what, what are you getting?
Joe shakes his head slowly and looks at John. He shrugs.
Obama: Ah, I didn’t even know people ate cotton candy anymore when they watched Baseball? No no no, I’m not saying it’s bad. My daughters love that stuff! Okay, bye, wait what time? Got it 7:00, see ya. Huh? Oh, um 7-Up. Thanks.
Hangs up and goes back to talking to Hillary Clinton.
Obama: Sorry about that. Huh? Oh, oh you’ll just run for 2020! Oh, yeah yeah yeah, great f**** plan! And who do you think is gonna vote for you, pie-brain, Trump’s wife? You, you you think you’re gonna be able to win this time around after you’re failed campaigns have beaten you into defeat again? NOW GET YOU’RE LYING CORRUPTIBLE OVERACHIEVING ASS BACK HERE, OR I’M GONNA TELL EVERYONE HOW YOU SMILED TO THE CAMERA WHEN THAT ADULTEROUS HUSBAND OF YOUR’S HAD SEX WITH JUANANITO OR JUANABEE BROADWAY OR WHATEVER THE HELL HER NAME IS!
Obama raises a hand to his mouth.
Obama: Oh geez, she’s crying. Hahahaha. Woah, woah, hey hey hey, come on. Come on. Don’t be like that, look, look I’m just dealing with a lot of crap right now. Donald J. Trump becoming the president of the United F**** States, you know? I didn’t mean to snap. Look, look, just get back here. I’ll buy you a drink, okay? Okay. Bye. I uh, what, I um.
Obama looks around the room before whispering.
        Obama: I love you, too.
        Hangs up.

        PS: “JUANABEE” = KEEPER!

And I most certainly do have to agree with the clip’s many comments, because “What the hell is an aluminum falcon?”, really does deserve hall-of-fame status. Just like, “All your base are belong to us” (see below), over the years, I’ve watched this Adult Swim short at least twenty times and, once I’m done with typing this, I’ll probably watch it again.

  6. Ireland Sought to Give Thousands of Migrants ‘Amnesty Under Another Name’ (breitbart, May 26, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/05/26/ireland-migrants-amnesty-another-name/

“Authorities in Ireland “tried very much to introduce something like an amnesty” for thousands of asylum seekers, but “did not dare” call it that because politicians knew such a move would be electoral poison, it has emerged.

Former High Court judge Dr Bryan McMahon made the revelation while giving evidence to the Oireachtas (legislature of Ireland) Committee on Justice and Equality this week, as the United Nations ordered politicians to improve the quality of life for asylum seekers in the country.

Dr McMahon, whose eponymous 2015 report predicted an “upward trend in the number of new applications” for asylum in Ireland, described how efforts to regularise the migration status of 4,000 people were set back by politicians’ fears that “the word ‘amnesty’ … is not a prospect that would go down well with the public”.

He said: “With regard to an amnesty for those who have been in the system for more than five years, we tried very much in our discussions to introduce something that was like an amnesty but we did not dare call it an amnesty.

“To some extent, the word is taboo in the discussion because it will not fly [so] the administrators tried to do it in another way,” Dr McMahon added, stressing that the move “had to be done without using the word ‘amnesty’.”

The head of the Irish branch of the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), Enda O’Neill, had complained to the committee over the length of time migrants were having to wait to have their applications processed.

Other issues raised included that newcomers, who are now allowed to work while seeking asylum thanks to rule changes supported by big business, were being placed in taxpayer-funded accommodation which was considered too far away from urban areas to be considered convenient for finding employment.

In September, Ireland announced an amnesty to regularise the status of an estimated 3,500 to 5,500 illegal immigrants who arrived in the country as international students between 2005 and 2010 — a move hailed by open borders groups such as Right to Remain.

The Britain-based NGO, which works to dismantle immigration restrictions in Britain, lauded the decision, alleging that “support for amnesty schemes is mainstream in Ireland”.

“Major Irish political parties have advocated regularisation schemes, including in election manifestos, and the main opposition party welcomed the move,” the group said on its website.

But a number of factors suggest there is far less consensus on the topic than the Irish establishment claims, including that politicians and the country’s almost uniformly left-liberal mainstream media enforces a tough line against anyone who would discuss mass migration or its consequences in less than glowingly positive terms.

At recent elections, discourse around immigration has been controlled by the European Network Against Racism (ENAR), an NGO funded by Hungarian-American billionaire George Soros and EU taxpayers, while a centrist politician was smeared as a “dog-whistling” extremist for commenting that “there needs to be sustainable levels of immigration in this country, it needs to be managed”.

The gap in attitudes between Ireland’s elite and the people who they are supposed to represent was exposed in a survey earlier this year, which found that not one of the country’s TDs (the equivalent of British MPs) wanted to reduce immigration.

Despite half the respondents admitting that mass migration was regularly brought up on the doorstep as a topic of concern, 65 per cent said they were happy to see immigration remain at its current level while 35 per cent stated they would like to see it increased further.”

  7. France: As Many Muslims as Practising Catholics in 18-29 Year-Old Demographic (breitbart, May 26, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/05/26/france-as-many-muslims-as-practicing-catholics-in-18-29-year-old-demographic/

“Fewer and fewer French identify as being actively religious, and according to a new study there are now as many practising Muslims among the 18- to 29-year-old demographic as there are practising Roman Catholics.

In total, around 32 per cent of French in 2018 identify as being members of the Roman Catholic church, but the majority, 19 per cent, say that they do not practise, and only seven per cent say that they attend mass once a month — down from an already low nine per cent in 2008, French political magazine Le Point reports.

The research comes from sociologists Claude Dargent and Olivier Galland who compared the numbers to 1981 when 70 per cent of French identified as being Roman Catholics and 17 per cent regularly practised.

One of the largest trends in the data is the huge difference between those of different generations in terms of active religious practice. Among the 18 to 29-year-olds, a mere three per cent of Catholics say they practise, compared to 16 per cent of those over the age of 70.

As Catholicism has declined, other religions have grown in France, with Islam being the fastest. Around 14 per cent of French identify as being Muslim, and among the 18 to 29-year-old age bracket there are just as many practising Muslims in France as practising Roman Catholics.

The rise of Islam in France was addressed by Archbishop of Strasbourg Luc Ravel, who tied the trend to the shifting population demographics, claiming, “Muslim believers know very well that their birthrate is such that today, they call it … the Great Replacement, they tell you in a very calm, very positive way that, ‘one day all this, it will be ours’.”

The idea of population replacement, conceived as the “Great Replacement” by French writer Renaud Camus, is considered a conspiracy theory by many in the mainstream media.

According to a survey by Jean-Jaurès Foundation and Conspiracy Watch, at least a quarter of French believe “elites” are using mass migration policies to replace them.”

  8. The problem I see with this article is it stops short of explaining the potential liability to the Red Chinese Politburo whence massive unemployment results from this trade/currency war. All those young men created by their one-child policy, and alleyway female-baby slaughter houses, will turn the people against their commie bosses in a flash. In other words the new “Social Credit’ system of state control will be repurposed as a commie suppository:

    • The CCP will remain in power as long as they can find police and military who are willing to murder their own people. Given the current imbalance in the sexes this may depend on the CCP providing brides for the bachelor police and military personal.

I wonder if they have found a way to use the social credit system to fix this massive problem?

    https://www.thenational.ae/uae/courts/woman-raped-and-forced-to-eat-dog-food-by-man-she-met-online-court-hears-1.866338

“A woman was raped repeatedly and forced to eat dog food after being forced into an apartment at knifepoint by a jewellery designer she met online, Dubai Criminal Court heard.

The Nigerian accused, 31 allegedly struck up a conversation with the woman on social networking site, Badoo, on January 4 and agreed to met her at a coffee shop in Dubai the same day.

The Serbian woman, 53, told prosecutors she agreed to share a taxi with the man, only for him to produce a knife when they stepped out of the vehicle.

“We chatted on the Badoo application and agreed to meet. We then hailed a taxi together and when we stepped out near a building, he held a knife against me,” said the woman.

In court records, she stated the man then forced her into his apartment and raped her close to 20 times.

“As he raped me over and over again, he hit me, took away my passport, mobile phone and shoes and forced me to eat dog food.”

The woman reported the incident to police four days later.

Police reviewed CCTV footage showing the man and the woman entering the entrance of the building at 10.22pm on January 4.

A police report said it could not be established from the footage whether the man was carrying a knife.

A medical report confirmed that the accused and the complainant had sexual intercourse and the woman had minor bruises.

The court hearing on Sunday was held behind closed doors.

The case was adjourned until June 30.”

    • MORE on 50-year old women dating 20-year old refugee guys. They deserve what they get.

GERMANY: Afghan refugee slits throat of girlfriend’s father. “In Afghanistan, killings are normal. We can solve that with money”

It shouldn’t have happened, but it did: As part of an integration project, the graduate of Ecology fell in love with the Afghan, 30 years her junior. He appreciated the unexpected affection. And he took advantage of it.

Looks, laughs, contacts. And finally sex, living together in their apartment. She even gave him money, which he later lost to gambling. This woman working with refugees admitted her relationship in court.

Did the young Afghan misunderstand her affection? Perhaps Almut P. saw this relationship only as a fling, especially since she knew that Najmudin was promised to another woman in his native land.

      And obviously, he wanted more.

The day before the murder, the refugee and Almut saw each other in Saxony. Then he went to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania to the house of Almut P.’s father, Dietrich P. († 85). His lover asked him to do some gardening.

But the next night he snuck into the sleeping pensioner’s room. The Afghan compared what happened there to a slaughter.

The WOUND in the victim’s THROAT was 22 CENTIMETERS LONG and SEVEN CENTIMETERS DEEP to the cervical vertebrae. According to the medical examiner, the Afghan is experienced in the practice. When he fled to Turkey, he worked as a shepherd [Editor’s note: the newspaper implied a practice related to Muslim ritual slaughter where animals are slaughtered].

After the bloody act, the killer first fled, but he was arrested quickly.

The killer told the psychologist who interrogated him that his lover was overworked because she cared a lot for her father.

“He was angry with her father for stealing his wife,” said the expert.

“Nearly 330,000 Syrians in Turkey have returned home since Turkey successfully completed counter-terror operations in northern Syria, Turkey’s interior minister said on May 26.

Speaking in Istanbul, Süleyman Soylu said, “329,000 people from Syria have returned so far thanks to the peace provided in Afrin and the area liberated by Operation Euphrates Shield.”

Turkey currently hosts some 4 million Syrian refugees — more than any country in the world — but many have been returning to regions since stability and peace were established by Turkish counter-terrorist operations since 2016.

Over 41,000 Afghan migrants came to Turkey illegally this year and about half of them, some 20,500, were repatriated, added Soylu.”

“An Iraqi court on Sunday, May 15 sentenced three French citizens to death after they were found guilty of joining Islamic State, a court official said.

Captured in Syria by the Syrian Democratic Forces, Kevin Gonot, Leonard Lopez and Salim Machou are the first French ISIS members to receive death sentences in Iraq. They were among at least 12 French nationals who were transferred from Syria in February.

They have 30 days to appeal.

Previously, Iraq offered to try foreign ISIS adherents in the country if their home governments will not repatriate them, provided the Coalition pays court costs.

Iraq has already tried and sentenced several hundred foreign ISIS members, and others are in detention in Baghdad awaiting trial.

Last April, a court commuted the death sentence of a German woman of Moroccan origin, reducing her sentence to a life term.”

Six-year-old Mahsa Ahmadi was snatched off a Kabul street in March and was killed after her parents were unable to pay a ransom of $300,000.

Police eventually arrested two boys and released a video clip showing them confessing. They said they had picked up Mahsa, driven her away on a motorcycle, taken her to a house and then strangled her after the ransom wasn’t paid.

In a televised court hearing, a judge sentenced the two youths to 30 years each in prison. Their ages were not released, but the judge said they were under 18.

For Mahsa’s father, the sentence was too lenient.

“I want the severest punishment for them, they should be hanged,” he said.

“They should feel what we are feeling.”

But the judge said since they were minors they could not be executed. They have the right to appeal the sentence.

Even in war-torn Afghanistan, where crime and violence are common, Mahsa’s death drew broad condemnation and angry Afghans took to social media demanding justice.

Kidnappings for ransom are increasing in Kabul, as are a host of other crimes, adding yet more worries for an already stressed-out population.

Overwhelmed police are already pushed to their limits attempting to prevent insurgent attacks by the Taliban and other groups.

Crime in Kabul came under scrutiny again this month when former journalist Mena Mangal was murdered in broad daylight on a busy street.

Her killing appears tied to a domestic dispute, but many observers viewed the brutal and public slaying as a bellwether demonstrating just how cheap life has become in Afghanistan.”

  14. UK: ‘Asian Male’ Holds Knife to Baby’s Throat in ‘Terrifying’ Daylight Robbery (breitbart, May 26, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/05/26/uk-asian-male-holds-knife-babys-throat-daylight-robbery/

“Police are seeking an “Asian male” with a “foreign accent” who held a knife to the throat of a 19-month baby during a “terrifying” daylight street robbery in Normanby, England.
“The incident happened between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Friday (May 24) as the victim, a woman in her 40s, was taking her 19-month-old grandson for a walk,” recounted Cleveland Police in an official witness appeal.

“She was pushing the pushchair along the footpath in the wooded area off Ormesby Road, Normanby, when a man came out of the bushes in front of her and demanded her purse.

“When the victim refused the man produced a knife and placed it to her grandchild’s throat. The victim then handed over her purse and the man ran off towards Normanby High Street.”

Police described the suspect as an “Asian male” in his early to mid-twenties, around 6-feet tall, with a “foreign accent” and “very bad teeth”.

In British parlance, “Asian” normally refers to people with roots in the Middle East and South Asia — particularly Pakistan and Bangladesh, and often including Afghanistan — rather the Far East, as it does in the United States.

“This was clearly a terrifying incident for the victim and very distressing as it involved a threat of violence against her grandchild,” commented DC Lewis Mackfall for Cleveland Police.

“We’re appealing for anyone who might have seen a man matching this description to speak to us urgently by calling 101 with reference number 086712.”

Violent crime is soaring in England and Wales, with the latest Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures showing an increase of almost 20 per cent on the previous year.

Knife crime, in particular, is becoming a matter of increasing concern, with 2019 having already rung in its 100th fatal stabbing and gang members reportedly awarding each other “points” for piercing victims in different body parts — with the head and face scoring highest.”

  15. Libya’s Haftar rules out Tripoli ceasefire,dismisses U.N.-led talks -newspaper (reuters, May 26, 2019)
    https://af.reuters.com/article/topNews/idAFKCN1SW0EJ-OZATP

“Libyan eastern commander Khalifa Haftar has ruled out a ceasefire in the battle for Tripoli and accused the United Nations of seeking to partition Libya, according to an interview published by French newspaper Le Journal du Dimanche.

Haftar’s Libyan National Army (LNA) began an offensive in early April to take Tripoli from fighters loyal to Prime Minister Fayez al-Serraj’s Government of National Accord (GNA) which has the backing of the United Nations.

The LNA, which is allied to a parallel government in the east, has not been able to breach the southern defences of Tripoli. The fighting has killed at least 510 people, forced 75,000 out of their homes and trapped thousands of migrants in detention centres.

“Of course, the political solution is still the goal. But to get back to politics, we must first finish with militias,” Haftar told the newspaper.

Haftar also said the head of U.N. mission to Libya, Ghassan Salame, was no longer impartial.

“Partition of Libya is maybe what our adversaries want. This is maybe what Ghassan Salame also wants.”

The flare-up in the conflict in Libya – which has been gripped by anarchy since Muammar Gaddafi was toppled in 2011 – began in early April, when the LNA advanced on the capital.

Even though France and other Western countries officially back the Libyan government, some have supported Haftar as they see him as a bulwark against Islamist militias in the country.

Macron had asked Haftar in a meeting held in Paris this week to make a public step towards a ceasefire, without much luck, a French official told Reuters.”

Secret FBI tapes that accuse Martin Luther King Jr of having extramarital affairs with ’40 to 45 women’ and even claim he ‘looked on and laughed’ as a pastor friend raped a parishioner exist, an author has claimed.

The civil rights hero was also heard allegedly joking he was the founder of the ‘International Association for the Advancement of P***y-Eaters’ on an agency recording that was obtained by bugging his room, according to the sensational claims made by biographer David Garrow – a Pullitzer prize-winning author and biographer of MLK.

Writing in British magazine Standpoint, Garrow says that the shocking files could lead to a ‘painful historical reckoning’ for the man who is celebrated across the world for his campaign against racial injustice.

Along with many US civil rights figures, King was subject to an FBI campaign of surveillance ordered by Director J Edgar Hoover in an effort to undermine his power amid fears he could have links to the Communist Party.

    • Writing in British magazine Standpoint, Garrow says that the shocking files could lead to a ‘painful historical reckoning’ for the man who is celebrated across the world for his campaign against racial injustice.

So, is this the beginnings of an admission as to how this really isn’t about any “deplorables”, or why they are, “bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade” but really a long overdue reckoning about all the abuse that was heaped upon less-than-reverential voices who called this, boastingly infidelitous, Communist infiltrator, “Marchin’ Looter King”?

  18. Utah Judge Given Six-Month Suspension For Anti-Trump Comments Which Violated Judicial Code Of Conduct
By Donica Phifer On 5/24/19 at 10:37 PM EDT

A Utah judge has been suspended from his post for six months without pay after another judge ruled that posts made on social media and inside the courtroom were a violation of the judicial code of conduct.

Utah State Supreme Court Justice John A. Pearce wrote in his ruling that Judge Michael Kwan made posts to his Facebook and Linked In accounts in 2016 and 2017 that violated the code and hurt “the reputation of our entire judiciary,” ABC News reports.

“The problem here is not primarily a concern that Judge Kwan has voiced his views on a range of political issues via his criticisms of Donald Trump. Far more importantly, Judge Kwan has implicitly used the esteem associated with his judicial office as a platform from which to criticize a candidate for elected office,” the opinion says. “Fulfillment of judicial duties does not come without personal sacrifice of some opportunities and privileges available to the public at large. And as a person the public entrusts to decide issues with utmost fairness, independence, and impartiality, a judge must at times set aside the power of his or her voice — which becomes inextricably tied to his or her position — as a tool to publicly influence the results of a local, regional, or national election.”

Though Kwan’s Facebook posts were published on his private account, his security settings allowed his friends’ list to share what he wrote, Pearce said in his ruling

  20. Former intel analyst who was in Afghanistan at time of John Walker Lindh capture sets NYT straight
By LU Staff May 26, 2019

When it was announced last week that “American Taliban” John Walker Lindh was being released from prison early on good behavior, Americans blinked. Some wondered why the first U.S.-born enemy combatant captured on the battlefield in the global war on terror was being released at all. Most cringed at the thought, especially in light of reports that he is still committed to “waging jihad” against the U.S.

Some thoughtful journalists on the Left penned articles with titles like “As John Walker Lindh walks out of prison, we have to figure out what awaits him.” Notice the authors’ sole concern is what awaits Lindh, not what awaits us, his sworn enemy.

For its part the New York Times on Thursday ran a helpful op-ed by John Wray, identified as “a novelist who has traveled as a journalist in Afghanistan.” The piece opens with the fiction “that there was a time when” the U.S. was “fairly cozy with the Taliban.” Apart from being untrue, the claim is irrelevant since at the time when the U.S. negotiated indirectly with the Taliban over an Afghan oil pipeline, Lindh was a small child.

But Wray is just getting warmed up. He goes on to submit that Lindh, who “had enlisted as a simple foot soldier in a strictly regional conflict between the Taliban and a group of rival warlords,” was never at war with the U.S. Yes, he was taken prisoner by American troops and was present during the uprising that claimed the life of CIA adviser Johnny Micheal Spann, but “[t]here was no evidence that this young American had taken an active part in the violence — in fact, it was later determined that he had been hiding in the basement for the bulk of the conflict.”

In brief, what condemned Lindh to prison time at all was his American citizenship.

The day after the Times ran Wray’s fanciful account (Wray is a novelist, keep in mind), Jason Buttrill, a former intelligence analyst for the Department of Defense, crafted a rebuttal in the form of a Twitter thread. In it Buttrill writes that he was in Afghanistan as an intel analyst when Lindh was brought to his patrol base for questioning. Here are several of his observations:

    1. The only reason Lindh didn’t spend the rest of his life in prison is due to his plea deal. He gave intell in order to escape a life sentence, and YES what he did justified him never seeing anything but bars and grey walls for the rest of his life. +

  21. Oregon: Clerk fired after pulling gun on hatchet-bearing attacker, causing attacker to flee
    By J.E. Dyer May 25, 2019

This seems to explain a lot about Portland, Oregon.

According to KOIN 6, a convenience store clerk in Oak Grove, a suburb of Portland, was confronted in late April by a “customer” who apparently hoped to take cash from the register, and perhaps make off with some merchandise for free. The man came into the Plaid Pantry around 1 AM and pulled a foot-long hatchet from his pants. He “showed it” to the clerk, and in the security video (below) appeared to accompany his hatchet move with some words. The would-be thief then laid the hatchet on the counter.

Almost instantaneously, the clerk — clearly with small arms training — pulled his pistol but held it in a safe position in front of him, not pointing it at the attacker. With his left hand, he picked up his cell phone and called 911.

The position of the gun isn’t visible for most of the security video sequence at the counter, since the camera is behind the clerk. But his well-trained response at the beginning is a good indication that he would have held the gun in a safe position throughout. This appears to be exactly what he should have been doing, based on the quickly abject behavior of the attacker (who slumped on the counter, crouched down or went to his knees, and raised his hands, away from the hatchet and the counter, in a surrender gesture).

Richard: The probable reason for the no weapons police is the fear of law suit if the employee injures a wanna be robber. The virtue signaling statement are so much BS. This fear of law suits are why the big chain stores have policies that the employees and store security can’t chase a person after they have left the store. The fact that left leaning Judges and Juries are willing to pay off big bucks to criminals who are injured committing a crime is one of the first data points showing the slow motion collapse of civilization.

    • I’d have expected the cool-headed clerk to get a commendation.
He ought to move to a state where he’d be welcomed, as he should be.

  22. Ex-CIA officials, fuming over declassification, seemed fine with intel agencies leaking like a sieve in the past
By Daily Caller News Foundation May 25, 2019

Former intelligence community officials, including former CIA director John Brennan, have expressed concern over President Donald Trump’s declassification order due the potential release of CIA sources and methods.

“The concern is that very, very precious source and methods of the United States intelligence community as well as our partners and allies abroad — those who share this sensitive information with us,” Brennan said on MSNBC on Friday.

But Brennan’s concern, which was echoed by other intelligence community veterans and TV pundits on Friday, may be misplaced.

“Heavily armed individuals attacked the church as worshippers celebrated Sunday Mass, the source cited by AFP news agency noted.

Three worshipers were killed on Sunday as a result of a fresh attack on a Catholic church in Toulfe, northern Burkina Faso, where violence against Christians has been increasing, according to a security source cited by the AFP news agency.

“The attack, which took place around 09:00 (local and GMT), killed at least three and injured several people,” the source added.

The latest deadly attack comes after media reported that six people, including a priest, were killed on 12 May in an assault on a Catholic church in Dablo, northern Burkina Faso.

Another attack took place last month, as several gunmen targeted a Protestant church in Silgdji in the north of the country, killing five churchgoers and the pastor. The April deadly incident was the first attack on a church since 2015.

The attacks comes as the authorities of Burkina Faso have launched a massive anti-terrorist operation in the eastern and central-eastern regions of the country.”

  26. Migrant Convicts Escape Custody in ‘Prison Break’ Style Plan (breitbart, May 26, 2019)
    https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2019/05/26/migrant-convicts-escape-custody-in-prison-break-style-plan/

“A trio of migrants managed to slip past security and escape the Hendaye administrative detention centre last weekend after executing an intricate plan to evade their guards.
The three prisoners escaped the facility, located near the French-Spanish border, last Saturday at around 4 a.m. by first removing a metal door handle which they then used to smash the glass of a window looking out into a courtyard that was not accessible to the police on duty, according to a report from Le Parisien.

Armed with a collection of knotted together bedsheets around twelve metres long, the trio used a water bottle as a counterweight to throw over the seven-metre high wall of the detention facility and used the makeshift rope to climb the wall and ended up on a roof where they managed to make their escape.

At around 6 a.m. the prison’s roof alarm sounded. Officers attempted to get to the roof but were delayed when one of the officers did not bring the correct keys to unlock a ladder.

According to Le Parisien, the migrants had been sold plans of the facility six months prior in order to plan their escape. Investigators also criticised the security in the detention centre, especially the lack of alarm systems in the courtyard which had previously been used for escapes in the past.

A source also claimed that there were no police doing rounds in the centre because of Ramadan, saying, “during Ramadan and in view of the police force, our colleagues prefer not to enter the centre in the middle of the night to avoid any tension.”

The escape comes just under a year after a spectacular prison escape by notorious criminal Redoine Faid, who managed to break out of prison using a helicopter. Despite the escape, he was later recaptured in October.

Two of the three migrants involved in this most recent escape were recaptured after being caught on a bus.”

    • reuters – Italy’s ruling League tops EU vote as 5-Star loses ground: exit polls

ROME (Reuters) – The far-right League emerged as Italy’s largest party in Sunday’s European parliamentary election, overtaking its coalition partner the 5-Star Movement, which lost a third of its voters in a year, exit polls said.

If confirmed, such a result could alter the balance of power within the argument-plagued government, giving greater authority to League leader Matteo Salvini, who is pushing for swingeing tax cuts in possible defiance of EU budget rules.

Polls predicted the League took between 26.0-31.0 percent of the vote, up from some 17 percent at the 2018 national election and 6.2 percent at the last EU ballot in 2014, with its uncompromising anti-immigrant message boosting its support.

However, earlier this year it had been polling as high as 37 percent, suggesting its momentum had ground to a halt following months of surging popularity.

The 5-Star, led by another deputy prime minister, Luigi Di Maio, took between 18.5-23.0 percent, according to polling on four different television stations, compared with 32 percent last year and 21.1 percent five years ago.

The same polls suggested 5-Star had been overtaken on Sunday by the opposition center-left Democratic Party (PD), which was seen winning between 20.5-25.0 percent from 18.7 percent in 2018 and 40.8 percent in 2014.

Italy’s Interior Minister and leader of the League Party cast his vote in the European parliamentary elections, in Milan on Sunday.

Speaking to journalists outside the polling station, Salvini, who teamed up with other right-wing forces such as Germany’s AfD, Finns Party of Finland and Danish People’s Party to create the European Alliance for People and Nations, said: “I am happy because for the first time in the history of European elections, the Italian vote might change Europe’s history.”

“Until five years ago you already knew the final outcome before voting, but this is the first time that Italians can shift the balance in Europe, change the rules of finance, agriculture, fishing, trade. I am convinced that in these hours someone, among the big powers in Brussels and Berlin, is very worried,” he added.

According to opinion polls the League is set to win around 30 percent of the vote and 25 seats, leaping from six percent and five seats in the 2014 European elections.

The European parliamentary elections will see around 400 million people from 28 member states elect a total of 751 Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) between 23-26 May. Seven states already voted, with the remaining 21 voting on Sunday.

The Dutch politician said the predicted win of his Dutch Labour party in Thursday’s European elections in the Netherlands would be indicative of a European-wide change. “I’ve seen that everywhere is going better, it’s going well in my country too,” he told the crowd.

“PD has resumed its role of being a reasonable left-wing party with reasonable projects and with serious politicians. And this is what Italy deserves,” he added.

The European presidential candidate also criticised Italy’s resurgent populist right. “Lega and its European partners play on fear and falsehoods for a handful of votes that can have disastrous consequences.”

  31. BREITBART – WATCH: Hunt Stands to Attention for Islamic Call to Prayer at Foreign Office

Tory leadership contender and Foreign and Commonwealth Secretary Jeremy Hunt stood to attention for the Islamic call to prayer at a Ramadan feast in Whitehall on May 23rd.

The Remain voter, who will become Prime Minister if he wins to contest to succeed Theresa May as Conservative Party leader, stood for the call to prayer at an Iftar — a sunset feast at which Muslims break their Ramadan fasts — alongside junior minister Tariq Ahmad, also known as the Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon.

“Proud to co-host an Iftar [at the Foreign Office] with [Tariq Ahmad],” the Foreign Secretary posted on Twitter.

“Britain’s Muslim communities make an invaluable contribution to our national life. Ramadan Mubarak to those celebrating in the UK and around the world.”

  32. (Richard: Read the entire article, There is a lot of good information there and part of it shows that there is still an ongoing effort to cover up/suppress what was on the Weiner laptop. I hope the investigation into the Hillary email mess has managed to lay their hands on either the laptop or on the mirrored hard drive that has so much damaging material on it.)

In Latest Transcript Release NY FBI Asst Dir Sweeney Tosses Comey Under Bus — And Has No Idea What Happened to Weiner Laptop

The DOJ IG’s report related to the many lies made by former FBI Head Andrew McCabe was released in April 2018. (See report here)

We reported our summary of the report at the time. One key item included in the IG’s report was related to Anthony Weiner’s emails.

    The Gateway Pundit reported:

The report includes little mention of Anthony Weiner’s laptop emails other than to mention that a meeting was scheduled to get a search warrant to request the emails on October 27th, 2016. The emails were the suspected cause for Comey’s email to Congress on October 28th, 2016, announcing that the Hillary email scandal was being reopened. However, per text messages between Strzok and Page, the FBI knew about the emails in September 2016 and had sent a team to New York to review the emails at that time. [The Weiner emails may be what the Democrats are most fearful of being released to the public.]

Some Internet sleuths put together some astounding implications from the McCabe report when put in context with events at the time and Weiner’s emails.
    Background

Anthony Weiner was sentenced to nearly 2 years in prison in September 2017 for sexting minors. The pervert was Democrat Senator Chuck Schumer’s protégé and is married to Huma Abedin, Hillary Clinton’s closest aide during the 2016 Presidential campaign.

When NYPD investigated Weiner’s crime for texting minors sometime in and around 2016 they obtained his computer that at least one source said included up to 650,000 emails related to corruption, pay-for-play and more heinous crimes implicating a number of individuals including the Clintons and other liberal elites. It’s suspected that this was Weiner’s insurance in case he ever needed it. Instead it landed into the hands of the authorities as a result of him texting minors.

The IG Report and the Weiner Emails

As we reported last year, Andrew McCabe was made aware of Weiner’s emails in September 2016 but he sat on the emails for a month. After about a month there was either unrest within the FBI or the NYPD. Individuals who knew of Weiner’s emails are suspected of putting pressure on the FBI to look into the emails.

Then on October 24th, 2016, Obama’s corrupt AG Loretta Lynch inserted a new team on the Eric Garner case in New York. Garner was a black man who died under police custody. There were no indictments in the Garner case but somehow the Justice Department got involved.

According to the IG’s McCabe report, McCabe and AG Lynch held a call with New York:

McCabe told the OIG that during the October 2016 time frame, it was his “perception that there was a lot of information coming out of likely the [FBI’s] New York Field Office” that was ending up in the news. McCabe told the OIG that he “had some heated back-and-forths” with the New York Assistant Director in Charge (“NY-ADIC”) over the issue of media leaks.

On October 26, 2016, McCabe and NY-ADIC participated in what McCabe described as “a hastily convened conference call with the Attorney General who delivered the same message to us” about leaks, with specific focus being on leaks regarding the high-profile investigation by FBI’s New York Field Office into the death of Eric Garner. McCabe told us that he “never heard her use more forceful language.” NY-ADIC confirmed that the participants got “ripped by the AG on leaks.”

Note that McCabe held the call with AG Lynch that was “hastily convened” and McCabe said he never heard AG Lynch “use more forceful language”. Why did McCabe use the word “forceful”? What was she forcing? Also, how did anyone in New York know about McCabe’s leaks which had not yet even occurred at that time (October 30th)? The AG must have been referring to some other leaks.

On about the same day Trump supporter Rudy Giuliani was on FOX News noting that there were big campaign surprises coming out in the next few days.

    ……….

    In Summary:
The Obama Administration’s corrupt FBI, DOJ and AG all were working to cover-up and stop an investigation into Anthony Weiner’s laptop emails before the 2016 election.
An individual or a group of individuals forced these crooks to open up the second Hillary email investigation in late October.
AG Lynch may have tried to use the Garner investigation to coerce individuals in New York to stop looking into Weiner’s emails.
All these Obama crooks were hoping for a Hillary win.
    Fortunately President Trump won.

In my forward I said that I hope the investigation into the Hillary email mess has either the laptop or the mirror of its hard drive. If one honest cop has managed to save one or the other the leftist cockroaches will be running for protection in nations that won’t extradite to the US.

  33. Genocide of Christians Reaches “Alarming Stage”

“Christian persecution ‘at near genocide levels,'” the title of a May 3 BBC report, cites a lengthy interim study ordered by British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt and led by Rev. Philip Mounstephen, the Bishop of Truro.

According to the BBC report, one in three people around the world suffer from religious persecution, with Christians being “the most persecuted religious group”. “Religion ‘is at risk of disappearing’ in some parts of the world,” it noted, and “In some regions, the level and nature of persecution is arguably coming close to meeting the international definition of genocide, according to that adopted by the UN.”

British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt is also quoted on why Western governments have been “asleep” — his word — concerning this growing epidemic:

  34. Iran’s Options and the Destructive Defiance

    by Amir Taheri

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/14269/iran-options-defiance

According to an old adage, every crisis also contains an opportunity. And the current crisis between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States may be no exception. Intense sabre-rattling on both sides, combined with what one might call “diplomacy of gesticulations,” have reignited interest in what was a half-dormant conflict. That renewed interest could be used for persuading both sides, and others interested in the “Iran problem”, to re-visit the root causes of the conflict. And, having done so, try to find realistic ways of defusing the situation.

But before that could be done, a number of steps must be taken.

To start with, we must realize that the crisis in question isn’t caused by any of the traditional causes of conflict between nation-states. Iran and the US do not have a border problem, they are not fighting over access to natural resources and do not seek to snatch market share from one another. Nor are they in conflict over the oppression of one side’s kith-and-kin by the other. The two are not fighting over water resources, access to open seas or calculations about national security.

In other words, the conflict isn’t a classical international one. The reason is that Iran no longer behaves as a nation-state but as a vehicle for an ideology. One might suggest that ideological aspect is also present on the American side, as shown by all the talk about democracy and human rights. However, as decades of Cold War with the Soviet Union — as ideological adversary — showed, the US was mostly successful in fitting the ideological aspect of the conflict into a frame of nation-state behavior.

“The voice of the call to prayer rings in the foreign ministry during the iftar ceremony of [Jeremy Hunt] the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Lord [Tariq Ahmad] Minister of State and Special envoy for freedom of religion” he commented in Arabic, roughly translated.

The gathering was addressed by Qari Asim, imam of Leeds Mosque and chairman of the Mosque and Imam National Advisory Board (MINAB).

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has been embracing Islamic cultural practices with enthusiasm for some time, sending out a circular, shown above, inviting people to come to its India Office Council Chamber in London to “try on a Hijab” for World Hijab Day 2018, suggesting that “Many find liberation, respect and security through wearing it #StrongInHijab” [sic].

Curiously, the FCO’s press office was reluctant to discuss the event took place when Breitbart London queried it, putting off issuing a comment 15 times over a period of several days before finally confirming: “This was an internal event for staff in London who wished to gain a better understanding of the different cultural and social issues they may face when working overseas.”

The event was controversial, insofar as it took place around the same time as significant protests against the veil in the Islamic Republic of Iran, where women are forced to wear it.”

  37. global news –Turkey willing to help Canada repatriate ISIS members held in Syria, official says

Canada is facing increased pressure from the U.S. to bring home captured Canadian ISIS members. But as Mercedes Stephenson reports, concerns about national security have the Liberals resisting.

Turkey is open to allowing captured Canadian ISIS members to transit through the country so they can return to Canada for prosecution, a Turkish official said in an interview.

The official told Global News that Turkey was willing to co-operate with the RCMP to repatriate the dozens of Canadians caught by U.S.-backed Kurdish forces during the collapse of ISIS.

“I think we would be positive to that,” said the official. Due to the sensitivity of the issue, the official and a colleague spoke on the condition they would not be identified.

They said Turkey would not deal directly with the Kurdish forces holding the Canadians in Syria but said if the RCMP or Canadian Armed Forces brought them to the border, they would be allowed through.

“With some imagination, I suppose a way could be found,” the official said.

The RCMP has been exploring options for bringing the roughly 30 Canadians held by the Syrian Democratic Forces back to Canada. Turkey is considered the preferred route.

The Liberal government has said it would be difficult to get the Canadians out of Syria because they could be arrested and charged by authorities in neighbouring Turkey and Iraq.

But in a national security podcast released Friday, two experts said Canada’s current policy of inaction was not a lasting solution and the government needed to find a way to get them home.

“There needs to be something done about these Canadians that are abroad,” said Leah West, a former Department of Justice lawyer and now a doctoral candidate at the University of Toronto faculty of law.

Speaking on A Podcast Called Intrepid, she told hosts Stephanie Carvin and Craig Forcese that countries needed to work out a collective solution, “because leaving them in the hands of the Kurds is not sustainable.”

Jessica Davis, a former Canadian Security Intelligence Service analyst and now president of Insight Threat Intelligence, said while returning them to Canada had its own challenges, it had to be done.

“I think leaving them overseas is much more problematic from a threat perspective. There’s a possibility of being released, of being reintegrated into ISIS forces. All of those things just make it worse,” she said.

While the RCMP has been looking into transiting the Canadians through Turkey, it wants to ensure Turkish authorities would not question the detainees or search their electronic devices.

Doing so could taint their prosecution in Canada. Upon their arrival in Canada, the RCMP intends to lay charges when possible or seek peace bonds to restrict their actions.

The RCMP sees Turkey as a better option than Iraq, where foreign ISIS members could face death sentences. An RCMP delegation visited Turkey in March, and officials from the two NATO allies held recent security consultations.

One complication is who would hand the detainees over to Turkish authorities. The coalition holding the Canadians is dominated by the Kurdish Peoples Protection Units or YPG.

Turkey views the YPG as part of the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, which it considers a terrorist organization.

“We wouldn’t deal directly with the YPG. I don’t see that possibility,” the Turkish official said. “We don’t deal with terrorists.”

Those currently in detention in Syria include a Canadian who used social media to encourage terrorist attacks in Canada, and another who is believed to have helped produce ISIS execution videos.

Several Canadian women and their children are also among the detainees.

Following the defeat of ISIS in Syria, and the capture of thousands of foreign fighters and their families, the RCMP has ramped up preparations for their possible return of Canadians.

“We need to get ready in case they come back sooner than what we had expected,” Deputy Commissioner Gilles Michaud, who heads the RCMP’s federal policing branch, said in February.

To the extent possible, he said, the RCMP is trying to have charges ready before they set foot back on Canadian soil and is working with the Public Prosecution Service of Canada to see what can be used as evidence.

    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2019/5/26/sri-lanka-detains-100-people-in-anti-islamist-swoop

“Sri Lanka’s military has detained nearly 100 suspects during four days of search operations against remnants of an Islamist group blamed for the Easter attacks that killed 258, officials said on Sunday.

Some 3,000 military personnel were deployed in and around the capital as well as other key towns for cordon-and-search activities that began on Thursday, a military official said.

In the first three days, security forces took 87 suspects into custody and they were handed over to police for further investigations, he added.

“The number of people detained could be around 100 by now,” a security official said, adding that almost all were taken in for possessing drugs and in some cases illegal weapons.

A few were also detained along with video and other propaganda material of a local Islamist extremist group, the National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ) which has been blamed for the April 21 bombings.

Islamic State (IS) has also claimed a role in the attacks. Several parts of the capital were also targeted in search operations by troops on Sunday.

Similar raids were carried out in North Western Province, north of Colombo, where anti-Muslim riots this month left one man dead and left hundreds of Muslim-owned shops, homes and mosques destroyed.

Security forces have arrested scores of suspects in connection with the April 21 bombings of three hotels and three churches, as well as over what appeared to be organised violence against the island’s Muslim minority.

Last week, police arrested a parliament official on suspicion of having links to the National Thowheeth Jama’ath (NTJ).

While authorities say the immediate Islamist extremist threat has been blunted, President Maithripala Sirisena on Wednesday extended for one month the 30-day state of emergency imposed after the suicide bombings.

Sirisena said the move was to maintain “public security”, with the country still on edge after the Easter attacks. Christians make up 7.6 percent and Muslims 10 percent of mainly Buddhist Sri Lanka.”
