reuters – Pope kisses feet of South Sudan leaders, urging them to keep the peace
VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – Pope Francis, in a dramatic gesture after an unprecedented retreat at the Vatican, knelt to kiss the feet of South Sudan’s previously warring leaders on Thursday as he urged them to not return to a civil war.
He appealed to President Salva Kiir, his former deputy turned rebel leader Riek Machar, and three other vice presidents to respect an armistice they signed and commit to forming a unity government next month.
“I am asking you as a brother to stay in peace. I am asking you with my heart, let us go forward. There will be many problems but they will not overcome us. Resolve your problems,” Francis said in improvised remarks.
The leaders appeared to be stunned as the 82-year-old pope, who suffers from chronic leg pain, was helped by aides as he knelt with difficulty to kiss the shoes of the two main opposing leaders and several other people in the room.
His appeal was made even more pressing as anxiety grew in South Sudan that Thursday’s coup in neighboring Sudan might put at risk the fragile peace deal that ended South Sudan’s brutal five-year civil war.
The Vatican brought together South Sudanese leaders for 24 hours of prayer and preaching inside the pope’s residence in an attempt to heal bitter divisions before the country is due to set up a unity government.
“There will be struggles, disagreements among you but keep them within you, inside the office, so to speak,” Francis said in Italian as an aide translated into English. “But in front of the people, hold hands united. So, as simple citizens, you will become fathers of the nation.”
Sudan, which is predominantly Muslim, and the mainly Christian south fought for decades before South Sudan became independent in 2011. South Sudan plunged into civil war two years later after Kiir, a Dinka, fired Machar, from the Nuer ethnic group, from the vice presidency.
About 400,000 people died and more than a third of the country’s 12 million people were uprooted, sparking Africa’s worst refugee crisis since the 1994 Rwandan genocide.
The two sides signed a power-sharing deal in September calling on the main rival factions to assemble, screen and train their respective forces to create a national army before the formation of a unity government next month.
In his prepared address earlier on Thursday, Francis said South Sudan’s people were exhausted by war and the leaders had a duty to build their young nation in justice. He also repeated his wish to visit the country along with other religious leaders to solidify the peace.
Others who attended the retreat were the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who is spiritual leader of the worldwide Anglican community, members of the South Sudan Council of Churches, and other Catholic and Presbyterian Church leaders from Africa. Welby had proposed the idea of the retreat to the pope.

Germany has also had a poor track record with deporting failed asylum seekers since 2015, and Maassen explained the government’s lack of success saying, “This has a number of reasons, starting with the fact that the countries of origin are often not yet ready to take these people back. (They) are not ready, partly for purely economic reasons.”
He noted that many countries see their citizens sending back euros from the German welfare system and said countries are unlikely to want to take them back and be forced to pay them benefits.
“In addition, there are also so-called NGOs, which deliberately prevent deportation by supporting the deportees or hiding him and the like. All in all, one has to say that the deportation policy in Germany is, unfortunately, a disaster, but unfortunately not only in Germany but also in other Western European countries,” he said.
Maassen was sacked from his position at the BfV after commenting on riots in Chemnitz that followed the murder of a local man by a migrant and for comments he had made about far-left radical elements within the Social Democratic party.
During the interview, he noted that people in Germany often approach him and thank him for speaking out when they did not dare to.
“My grandfather had been mistreated by the Nazis. My uncle had been persecuted. And all that he had described back then led to the memory: totalitarianism and opinion dictatorship can be possible today. I’m not saying that’s the case in Germany, but that needs to be prevented,” he said.”

Ilhan Omar (D-MN), speaking at a CAIR dinner in California last month, described the 9/11 attacks in dismissive terms, saying “some people did something.” In context, the quote is actually worse: Omar was minimizing the significance of the 9/11 attacks in order to exaggerate the backlash she claims against Muslims in America. She even asserted that CAIR was founded to rescue Muslims’ civil rights after 9/11, a patent falsehood. (CAIR was founded in 1994.)

Former German intelligence chief Hans-George Maassen told Hungarian media this week that the door of immigration was “still open” and slammed the asylum policy of Chancellor Angela Merkel.
Speaking to broadcaster M1, the former president of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (BfV) said that despite there being fewer asylum seekers than 2015,” the lock is still open,” Die Welt reports.
During the 25-minute interview, Mr Maassen also touched upon the problems with integrating a large number of asylum seekers saying, “Integration is possible if you create the legal framework and also get people to integrate or be integrated. Integration can not only be ordered, but integration must also be demanded.”
“My concern is that there is integration, but not integration into German society, but into Arab society, the Salafist society or the Turkish society in Germany, so that we have parallel societies. And from my point of view, that has to be prevented with all our might,” he added.
Germany has also had a poor track record with deporting failed asylum seekers since 2015, and Maassen explained the government’s lack of success saying, “This has a number of reasons, starting with the fact that the countries of origin are often not yet ready to take these people back. (They) are not ready, partly for purely economic reasons.”
He noted that many countries see their citizens sending back euros from the German welfare system and said countries are unlikely to want to take them back and be forced to pay them benefits.
“In addition, there are also so-called NGOs, which deliberately prevent deportation by supporting the deportees or hiding him and the like. All in all, one has to say that the deportation policy in Germany is, unfortunately, a disaster, but unfortunately not only in Germany but also in other Western European countries,” he said.
Maassen was sacked from his position at the BfV after commenting on riots in Chemnitz that followed the murder of a local man by a migrant and for comments he had made about far-left radical elements within the Social Democratic party.
During the interview, he noted that people in Germany often approach him and thank him for speaking out when they did not dare to.
“My grandfather had been mistreated by the Nazis. My uncle had been persecuted. And all that he had described back then led to the memory: totalitarianism and opinion dictatorship can be possible today. I’m not saying that’s the case in Germany, but that needs to be prevented,” he said.

A Muslim asylum seeker has been convicted of planning a terrorist attack in Denmark with a homemade bomb made of sulphur stripped from more than 17,000 matchsticks.
A Danish court has found the 32-year-old man guilty of ‘preparing for terrorism’ by planning to detonate one or more bombs in Copenhagen and then attack passersby with knives.
On November 19, 2016 – the man arrived in the Danish capital from Sweden, where he had arrived as an asylum seeker 2015.
He had planned to meet his accomplice, fellow Syrian citizen Dieab Khadigah, but the 21-year-old was detained by German police as he tried to cross the border into Denmark.
In his backpack they discovered 17,460 matches, fireworks, 17 batteries, two kitchen knives and six walkie-talkies as well as other components for the manufacture of bombs.
Instructions by al-Qaeda for making a bomb were found on the man’s phone.
‘My mission was to carry the bag to Copenhagen and leave it with a contact at the railway station,’ he told a German court.
Khadigah was convicted and sentenced to six and a half years in a German prison in July 2017.

He was awarded 97,000 Swedish kronor (£8,000) in damages by a Swedish court after being held in pre-trial detention for four months.
But two months later he was arrested by Danish police on suspicion of planning to ‘randomly kill or hurt several people in an unknown location in Copenhagen’.
He is expected to be sentenced in late May.
During the case, bomb experts from Danish armed forces tested the would-be bomb using the al-Qaeda instruction manual.
They found that 17,000 matches could produce 237 grams of explosive sulphur – enough for small but potentially lethal blast that could strike people within a distance of 50 metres.

The Italian town of Calolziocorte in Lombardy has banned reception centres for asylum seekers from being placed near schools.
The urban plan states “welcome centres for migrants must not be located within 150 metres of schools”. Town mayor Marco Ghezzi is a member of the League party, which has strict stances on immigration — he defended the decision on the basis welcome centres could be hubs for criminal activity.
“In another nearby [welcome centre], there was drug dealing. Therefore, we took this decision as a preventive measure and to safeguard our schools. There is a risk welcome centres double as drug-dealing hubs, and it is an act of common sense to place these facilities in the best place possible for the community and to favour integration. There is no discrimination, no drug emergency; it is simply a matter of common sense,” he told local media.
Other League party officials elsewhere have pursued even more stringent policies. In 2017 the city council of Palazzago, Bergamo approved a local regulation requiring anyone accommodating migrants to notify authorities, or face fines of up to €15,000. Two years earlier, in the province of Pavia, asylum seekers were banned exercising on a town’s public football pitch.
Opposition parties and human rights groups have condemned the move, but support for such measures is widespread in Italy, due to the mass influx of refugees into the country since 2013. Over the course of six years, around 690,000 migrants have arrived by boat, most from sub-Saharan Africa — during this period, the number of people living in asylum centres has leapt from 22,000 to 182,000.
International Organization for Migration figures suggest around 120,000 immigrants arrived in Italy by sea in 2017 alone — the government calculates the cost of taking them in at €4.2 billion.
Interior Minister Matteo Salvini, who heads the League party, has made clear his intention to reverse the tide, stating Italy “cannot be Europe’s refugee camp” — the number of migrants that reached the country’s shores in the first five months of 2018 was 13,808, an 84 percent reduction year-on-year, and refugee expulsions and asylum application rejections are increasing significantly.”
Montreal terrorist considered targeting U.S. college and ‘gay club’ before attacking airport

New details are emerging about Amor Ftouhi, the Montreal man charged with Wednesday’s attack at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan. Mike Armstrong spoke to neighbours and was inside the suspect’s apartment building.
A Montreal man convicted of transnational terrorism for a 2017 attack at a U.S. airport had initially considered targeting a college and “gay club,” prosecutors have revealed.
Before slashing the throat of a police officer at a Michigan airport, Amor Ftouhi used the public wifi at a McDonald’s to search Google maps for “guy club,” “gay club” and “aeroport.”
The evidence of his searches, which came a year after the Orlando nightclub shooting that killed 49, was not presented at his trial because it was considered too prejudicial.
He had also searched for directions to Baker College in Flint, Michigan, leading authorities to suspect it had been a potential target.
U.S. prosecutors are seeking a life sentence for Ftouhi, arguing in a court filing that while he had a “good life in Canada” he was “so consumed by hate that he left all of that aside to pursue his mission of murder.”

According to the prosecutors, Ftouhi is without remorse and sent a letter to his wife in Montreal that read: “Tell my children that I love them all; they must be proud of their father, who is fighting the infidel criminals.”
“I am not like the other Muslims, who are all talk and no action, who have held on to earthly matters, and stayed away from jihad,” the letter continued.
The 51-year-old former school janitor and delivery driver was convicted of terrorism last November for the June 21, 2017, stabbing of an officer at Bishop International Airport in Flint, Michigan.
Following the attack, he told the FBI he was a “soldier of Allah,” supported Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden, and believed the United States was the enemy.
“Ftouhi stated he wanted to kill a USG [U.S. government] employee at a location that would receive worldwide attention and therefore, Donald Trump would hear him,” according to an FBI report.
His sentencing is scheduled for next week.
In their sentencing arguments, his lawyers said Ftouhi was disappointed with his life in Canada. Since immigrating from Tunisia in 2007 he collected welfare and worked at “menial jobs,” which they attributed to Canadian intolerance.
“Mr. Ftouhi’s struggle to find employment was not unique to him. He was among many Muslims in Canada (Quebec especially) experiencing discrimination and Islamophobia,” they argued, citing the January 2017 Quebec mosque shooting.
Rather than being an ideological extremist, Ftouhi was hopeless as a result of being “wholly unprepared for the challenges he would face both as a first-generation immigrant and as a Muslim in a predominantly Christian city,” they wrote.
His attack was an act of “killing to be killed,” said the defence lawyers, who want a 25-year sentence.
But following his arrest, Ftouhi told the FBI he had been an Al Qaeda [AQ] supporter since at least the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, which he said he had celebrated. He also said he was “upset” when bin Laden [UBL] was killed.
“Ftouhi believes there is a war on Muslims and agrees with UBL’s statements that the USG is the problem. Ftouhi stated that when AQ and UBL attacked the USG, it was done for Allah.”
He claimed he was a victim of discrimination in Montreal because his car tires were once slashed, he didn’t get prayer breaks at work and he missed out on delivery jobs because he refused to transport alcohol.
After losing his latest job, he decided “enough was enough and it was time for him to act,” the FBI wrote.
He researched how to buy a firearm in the U.S. and drove to a Michigan gun show, but vendors wouldn’t sell to him because he wasn’t a U.S. citizen. Instead, he bought a $15 knife.
He then searched online for possible targets, settling on the Flint airport. The day before the attack, he visited the airport and observed police, then slept in his vehicle in a nearby parking lot.
The next day, he returned and saw a police officer standing alone. “Ftouhi planned to kill the police officer and take his gun to kill other officers,” according to the FBI report.
But he was quickly tackled and the officer survived.
“Ftouhi was on a mission to commit a jihadi attack against the United States,” the prosecutors argued.
“Ftouhi may have been unsatisfied with his life but he tried to kill Jeff Neville and intended to kill countless more because he dreamed of being a mujahedeen – a warrior.”
He was the second Canadian in just over a year arrested in the U.S. over a cross-border terror plot. In 2016, a Mississauga, Ont., teenager, Abdulrahm El-Bahnasawy, was arrested in New Jersey for conspiring with ISIS to conduct attacks in New York City.
In January, RCMP arrested a Kingston youth on terrorism charges.

“The British government is significantly underestimating the likely impact of mass immigration on future population growth, according to an expert think tank.
Lord Andrew Green of Deddington, Chairman of Migration Watch UK, has questioned why the Office for National Statistics (ONS) is basing its new “principal population projection” on international net migration to England of 152,000 per year.
This would increase the population of England, the largest and most populous of Britain’s Home Nations, to over 60 million by 2032, well up on the 2016 estimate of 55.3 million, with the hyper-diverse, crime-ridden capital of London swelling to 10 million by 2035.
Staggering though these figures are, Lord Green believes they hugely underestimated the speed and scale of the changes England is undergoing, as average net immigration to the country is actually well in excess of 152,000 a year — “whether you take the average of the past five years (246,000 per year) or the average of the past ten years (213,000 per year).”
Writing in The Telegraph, the former diplomat and Royal Green Jackets officer said it would be “much more realistic to use what the ONS calls its ‘high migration scenario’ (based on net migration to England of 215,000 per year) which would see England’s population rise not by 4.8 million between 2016 and 2032 (as in the principal projection) but by 5.9 million” — a difference, he points out, of “well over a million people.”
“Time and again the government has underestimated projected population growth,” the cross-bench peer reminded readers.
“A decade ago they estimated that the UK population would not reach 64 million by 2017. In fact, by mid-2017, the UK population exceeded a record 66 million.”
Lord Green warned that any attempt to deliberately “downplay the reality of rapid population” could only “backfire”, and that this latest ONS “discrepancy” would “further undermine public confidence in the authorities on immigration”.
“A poll published last year found that only 17 per cent of the public trust the government to tell the truth about immigration either all or most of the time,” he said.
Developments over the past few years suggest the public’s mistrust may not be entirely unjustified, as the governing Conservative Party have entered three general elections under two different prime ministers vowing to reduce net immigration “from the hundreds of thousands to the tens of thousands”, only for non-EU immigration — the only type of immigration which Britain can actually control, as long as it remains in the EU — to hit a 15-year high in the latest figures.
Shortly after the Brexit vote ended his immediate political career, David Cameron’s Chancellor of the Exchequer and chief lieutenant George Osborne revealed that persistent failure to fulfil immigration promises was a feature, rather than a bug, of Tory government.
“Over the past seven years, the Government has not been able to reduce significantly the numbers of non-Europeans coming here — though we could,” he admitted openly in 2017.
“[N]one of [the Cabinet’s] senior members supports the pledge [to reduce immigration] in private and all would be glad to see the back of something that has caused the Conservative Party such public grief,” he revealed.”

“A list from the Centre for Violent Extremism (CVE) has revealed that 41 out of 290 Swedish municipalities are expected to be forced to accommodate returning Islamic State members.
The CVE invited representatives from the 41 areas to an event to teach them more about the returning terror group members in order to “provide support to the municipalities that have or may be able to receive returning children and adults from areas previously controlled by the Islamic state,” SVT reports.
Anders Kretz, a senior advisor at CVE, said that their information about Islamic State members who were on their way home from the Middle East or who had already returned to Sweden had come from the Swedish security police, Säpo.

Karl Melin, a press officer at Säpo, confirmed that they were working with CVE on the matter saying, “The information goes on to all those who are involved in one way or another for the best way to work with the issue.”
“The purpose of this is to create the conditions for the police and municipalities to be able to handle individuals who are or have been in the conflict areas and possibly returning to Sweden,” he added.
The areas are being forced to take the returnees because, under Swedish law, they have Swedish passports and cannot be turned away. The returnees have the right to settle where they like and even claim social benefits, Breitbart London understands.
Around half of the 300 Swedes who went to Syria and Iraq to join the terror group have returned since 2012. Some left-wing politicians have suggested the returning fighters should be integrated back into Swedish society and even be given certain benefits to help them.
While some municipalities are welcoming returning jihadists, the municipal board chairman of Staffanstorp has expressed a desire to refuse municipal services to returning fighters.
In March, Christian Sonesson of the Moderate Party said, “We think it’s unreasonable. If you have joined this type of terror-stamped organisation, you have also turned away from the democratic society and the welfare systems we have.”
Others have also expressed concerns over returning fighters including anti-violent extremism activist Michael Helders in Malmö who said that Islamic State members have allegedly been recruiting new members in underground mosques.”

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — A 24-year-old man was arrested Friday in an incident in which a 5-year-old child may have been pushed or thrown from a balcony at the Mall of America, police said.
Bloomington Police Chief Jeffrey Potts said witnesses told police that the child may have been pushed or thrown from the mall’s third level to the first floor on Friday. Officers gave first aid but the 5-year-old child suffered “significant injuries” and had been taken to a hospital, Potts said.
Potts said the suspect took off running right after the incident but was quickly found and arrested at the mall.
He said police don’t think there is any relationship between the man and the child or the child’s family. He says police don’t have an idea about possible motive.

A man threw or pushed a 5-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony at the Mall of America on Friday morning, Bloomington police said, with the child suffering “significant injuries.”
“I am getting a report that someone threw the child over,” one officer on the scene told dispatch over an emergency audio channel.
A 24-year-old man was arrested and is being questioned about the incident, Bloomington Police Chief Jeff Potts said. The suspect’s name has not been released.
The boy was taken by ambulance from the mall to Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis. No further information on his condition was available.
Police don’t know why the child was launched over the railing, Potts said, adding that there doesn’t seem to be any connection between the victim, his family and the alleged assailant. Potts said he didn’t know whether the victim’s family is from Minnesota or visiting from elsewhere.

PC Madness: Italian Cemetery Covers Crosses to Avoid Offending Muslims
Despite the long-standing prevalence of Catholicism in Italy, it seems the culture may be succumbing to anti-Christian political correctness as a Catholic cemetery near Bologna has selected to cover crosses on graves to avoid offending those who may practice other religions.
Breitbart News reports that the cemetery, located in Pieve di Cento, will not only cover crosses on graves in black cloths, but will also be using motorized blackout curtains to hide Roman Catholic symbols during burial ceremonies involving other denominations.
Pieve di Cento is a small town just north of Bologna that is home to approximately 7,000 residents. The area reportedly has a small but growing Muslim population, though nine out of 10 residents continue to call themselves Catholics.
Why, then, does an entire population have to be offended to appease a small minority of people?
That is the very criticism posited by Giorgia Meloni, Brothers of Italy leader, Russia Today reports.
“With the excuse of respect for others, they lack respect for our Catholic culture and our traditions,” she said. “Now the Left is beyond fanaticism. This is ideological delirium.”

Adding more humor to the entire thing, apparently the White House wanted to several of the migrants to be released in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s district in San Francisco, California.

Senior Trump administration officials like former Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who resigned April 7, need to be ostracized, bankrupted, and made homeless, according to the Trump-deranged Left.
Since the Left won’t be able –knock on wood— to put former Trump officials on trial for crimes against humanity, tormenting those individuals until their dying days is the next big thing. The penalty for serving President Donald Trump, the duly elected 45th president, shall be everlasting infamy.
The day before Nielsen quit, a bunch of leftist groups signed on to a petition asking corporate America to blacklist senior Trump administration officials, including Nielsen, who played a role in the family separation policy used at the border.
“Allowing her to seek refuge in a corporate corner office or a boardroom, university, speaking agency or elsewhere poses a significant reputational risk for those involved,” said professional character assassin Karl Frisch of Restore Public Trust. Frisch is, of course, a former disciple of leftist David Brock, serving under him at the George Soros-funded Media Matters for America, a propaganda arm of the Democratic Party.

But since Obama judges have corruptly taken the lead in illegally blocking vital measures in just any area carried out by the administration as part of a larger leftist conspiracy against the 2016 election, it was only a matter of time until the circus came to town.
And the ringmaster is Judge Carlton Reeves, an Obama judge, who compared Trump and critics of officials wielding unlimited power to the KKK.
