Contributor’s Links post for March 11, 2019

Daily Links Post graphic

Each day at just after midnight Eastern, a post like this one is created for contributors and readers of this site to upload news links and video links on the issues that concern this site. Most notably, Islam and its effects on Classical Civilization, and various forms of leftism from Soviet era communism, to postmodernism and all the flavours of galloping statism and totalitarianism such as Nazism and Fascism which are increasingly snuffing out the classical liberalism which created our near, miraculous civilization the West has been building since the time of Socrates.

This document was written around the time this site was created, for those who wish to understand what this site is about. And while our understanding of the world and events has grown since then, the basic ideas remain sound and true to the purpose.

So please post all links, thoughts and ideas that you feel will benefit the readers of this site to the comments under this post each day. And thank you all for your contributions.

This is the new Samizdat. We muse use it while we can.

“A former U.S. basketball star on Monday warned the NBA over one of its players supporting a terrorist group.

“Enes Kanter has been using the NBA platform for [spreading] the propaganda of the terrorist organization,” Hidayet Turkoglu, head of the Turkish Basketball Federation, told U.S. sports channel ESPN, referring to the Fetullah Terrorist Group (FETO).

“Enes Kanter clearly supports the head of terrorist organization. l won’t send any messages to the supporters of terrorist organizations,” he said, adding: “All I have to say to all my American fellows, [is] be careful.”

After the July 15, 2016 defeated coup attempt in Turkey, Portland Trail Blazers player Kanter has publicly expressed support for Fetullah Gulen — the U.S.-based leader of FETO, which orchestrated the defeated coup that left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

After playing 15 years for NBA teams such as the Orlando Magic, Turkoglu became head of the Turkish Basketball Federation in 2015.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.”

Nigeria’s presidential election may have officially wrapped up, but the country is still awaiting the final results of Saturday’s state elections which could have a significant impact on the country’s future.

Counting is still ongoing for 29 out of 36 states, as well as the Federal Capital Territory of Abuja, with full results expected in the coming days.

In Lagos the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) maintained control of the governorship according to early results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while concerns were raised after the outcome in the states of Sokoto, Adamawa, Plateau and Bauchi were declared inconclusive.

On Monday the European Union Election Observation Mission in Nigeria stated that the elections were “overshadowed by systemic failings” and demonstrated “the need for an inclusive national discussion on electoral reform.”

“The environment for this election has been difficult with cases of violence and intimidation,” chief observer Maria Arena told reporters.
