  1. Disturbance and fire at Bavarian migrant center leaves 11 injured (DW, Dec 11, 2018)
    https://www.dw.com/en/disturbance-and-fire-at-bavarian-migrant-center-leaves-11-injured/a-46679113

“Four residents of the hostel are to appear in court charged in connection with a disturbance. A fire at the facility caused some damage and eleven people were injured.

Emergency services were called to the migrant center in the northern Bavarian town of Bamberg on Tuesday after a disturbance.

Men reportedly threw stones and other objects at police before barricading themselves in a building.

    A fire then broke out.

Police said nine people had to be treated for smoke inhalation and two others were also injured.

Police characterized the events as a disturbance of the peace and opened an investigation. Four main suspects are due to be brought before the investigating judge on Wednesday.

Bavaria shares its southern border with Austria. In August it set up seven migrant centers with the aim of speeding up asylum claims.

The facility in Bamberg offers space for up to 3,400 people.

Police said about 1,250 asylum seekers were currently there.”

  2. BREAKING: France raises terror threat to ‘ATTACK EMERGENCY’ after Strasbourg shooting (express, Dec 12, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1057648/strasbourg-shooting-news-strasbourg-christmas-market-latest-france-terror-attack-emergency

“THE FRENCH authorities have raised the country’s terror threat to “attack emergency” after deadly shootings in Strasbourg on Tuesday night, according to the French interior minister.

The threat level is the highest of a three-tier system and means “exceptional measures are in place to prevent any imminent risk of attack”.

It was raised by the French interior minister after a gunman opened fire at Strasbourg Christmas market.

Interior minister Christophe Castaner told reporters early on Wednesday morning the national terror level had been raised from “Heightened Security” to “Attack Emergency” – the highest level.

The government’s official website says an Attack Emergency, or Urgence Attentat in French, can be declared in the event of an imminent threat of a terrorist act or directly after an attack.

The decision came just hours after a suspected terrorist opened fire near the famous Strasbourg Christmas market – where millions of tourists travel every year.

The suspect was known to security services and is believed to be at large as police attempt to track him down.

The shooting happened near one of Strasbourg’s central squares, Place Kléber.

There were a total of three fatalities from the attack, with France’s counterterrorism prosecutor opening an investigation.

    More to follow…”
