Taiwan keen to accommodate manufacturers back from China
The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) has stepped up efforts trying to accommodate Taiwan-based makers moving their production lines back from China amid the escalating US-China trade war, according to government officials.
Many makers have been asked by clients to move their China production lines back to Taiwan, or to Southeast Asian countries, such as Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines, to avoid the US tariffs on China-made products, the officials said.
Economics minister Shen Jong-chin revealed that the government is closely watching the development concerning Taiwan firms’ production line relocation, and has asked the Industrial Development Bureau contact companies to understand their plans.
MOEA’s Investment Commission and Department of Investment Services have also jointly set up a task force to help returning makers solve problems in acquiring factory sites and securing power, water and labor supply, the officials said.

Taiwan moving to help makers avert China-US trade war impact
The government in Taiwan has taken three major countermeasures to avert possible impact of the escalating China-US trade spats, including helping makers to boost their domestic R&D and production ratios, according the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The ministry said that the government will also step up promoting investment in domestic demand and strengthen innovation momentum and multiple deployments to accelerate industrial transformation.
The ministry hopes Taiwan businesses to diversify overseas markets and export risks, thus effectively reducing negative impacts of the China-US trade fight.
The Bureau of Foreign Trade under the ministry will host promotions in Japan, Latin America, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Central Asia, European Union, and the US, to help Taiwan makers of auto parts, hand tools, food products, and machinery products better tap overseas sales in the second half of 2018.

Asian firms shuffle production around the region as China tariffs hit
A growing number of Asian manufacturers of products ranging from memory chips to machines tools are moving to shift production from China to other factories in the region in the wake of U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs on Chinese imports.
Companies including SK Hynix of South Korea and Mitsubishi Electric, Toshiba Machine Co. and Komatsu of Japan began plotting production moves since July, when the first tariffs hit, and the shifts are now under way, company representatives and others with knowledge of the plans told Reuters. Others, such as Taiwanese computer-maker Compal Electronics and South Korea’s LG Electronics, are making contingency plans in case the trade war continues or deepens.
The company representatives and other sources spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue.
The quick reactions to the U.S. tariffs are possible because many large manufacturers have facilities in multiple countries and can move at least small amounts of production without building new factories. Some governments, notably in Taiwan and Thailand, are actively encouraging companies to move work from China.
The United States imposed 25 percent duties covering $50 billion of Chinese-made goods in July, and a second round of 10 percent tariffs covering another $200 billion of Chinese exports will come into effect next week. The latter rate will jump to 25 percent at the end of the year, and Trump has threatened a third round of tariffs on $267 billion of goods, which would bring all of China’s exports to the United States into the tariff regime.
The tariffs threaten China’s status as a low-cost production base that, along with the appeal of the fast-growing China market, drew many companies to build factories and supply chains in the country over the past several decades.
At SK Hynix, which makes computer memory chips, work is under way to move production of certain chip modules back to South Korea from China. Like its U.S. rival Micron Technology, which is also moving some memory-chip work from China to other Asian locations, SK Hynix does some of its packaging and testing of chips in China, with the chips themselves mostly made elsewhere.
“There are a few DRAM module products made in China that are exported to the United States,” said a source with direct knowledge of the situation, referring to widely used dynamic random-access memory chips. “SK Hynix is planning on bringing those DRAM module products to South Korea to avoid the tariff hit.”
Most of SK Hynix’s production won’t be affected, the source added, since China’s dominance in computer and smartphone manufacturing makes it by far the largest market for DRAM chips.
Toshiba Machine Co says it plans to shift production of U.S.-bound plastic molding machines from China to Japan or Thailand in October.
The machines are used for making plastic components such as automotive bumpers. “We’ve decided to shift part of our production from China because the impact of the tariffs is significant,” a spokesman said.

NR: I am obliged to admit that this entire scenario quite escaped me. While I’m not an Asian finance expert, in hindsight, the logic of this entire scheme makes complete and total sense. As in, without firing a single shot Trump is managing to stampede a not insignificant chunk of Communist China’s externally funded production manufacturing back to its home base or preexisting alternative factory sites. Doing this through the mere threat of tariffs—without even having actually imposed them yet—represents the sort of opening moves that makes patzers weep silently.
To continue the chess analogy, Trump has claimed the board’s center and there is no way that President Xi Jinping can pretend otherwise or conceal his country’s vulnerability and inferior position. In a first amongst decades of American presidents, Trump has seized the tempo and is giving every indication that he intends to hold it.
To date, Red China’s misconduct has been so egregious such that, even though it may not be the most sagacious strategy, causing Jinping to experience a major loss of face may be one of the only ways of forcing him to the bargaining table.
As things stand, Beijing has been persistently unresponsive, if not downright deceitful, in all of its dealings with America. For that one reason alone it may well prove necessary to break Jinping’s political will as requisite preamble to genuinely leveling the playing field for a change. There will be few other future instances of such exposure on the Mainland—in every sense of the word—without having their colossal financial and real estate bubbles burst in advance.
Since Beijing always has refused to allow Foreign Direct Investment (FDI)—whereby an outside entity maintains majority controlling interest in a domestically situated enterprise—all ventures are limited to Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) and the minority holding status which that implies. Ironically, this makes it easier for foreign portfolio investors to abandon their projects in midcourse.
And this is precisely what we are seeing happen. Rather than being caught out by any sudden imposition of tariffs, foreign investors are cutting their losses by taking preemptive action. One can only imagine how many alarm bells are going off in the Politburo as this capital flight goes from trickle to torrent. There is a sideband to this message as well; and it is that outside of China, regional leaders are taking Trump quite seriously.
This credibility of a relative political newcomer—when compared to a ostensibly seasoned statesman like Jinping—must be the source of more than a little torment. Then again, it’s not as if Beijing hasn’t spent the past several decades vigorously painting itself into a very tight corner. Between squandering billions on makework projects like its “ghost cities” and foolhardily attempting to operate the world’s most populous nation as a command economy, Communist China is fenced in by inch-deep wet paint whichever direction it turns.
Were it not for the adversarial stance that Beijing has continually refused to forsake, Trump would almost be stooping to conquer. Instead, defusing the Chicom threat singlehandedly drives the necessity for immediate economic confrontation as a proxy for ultimately destructive military conflict. Jinping knows this equally well, which is most likely a key motivation for Red China’s precipitous and abrasive behavior in the South China Sea.
To close on a seemingly morose note, please imagine what would be happening right now if Trump had not won in 2016. Sino–American trade relations, not to mention all domestic policy and foreign diplomacy, would be arcing through an entirely different trajectory at this moment—while Communist China would still be scamming Washington DC with its multibillion dollar three-card monte. All by itself, that alone is reason enough to snap an uncooperative Beijing like a dry twig.
—————————————————————
And now for the lead pipe cinch:
China’s Sept. trade surplus with US widens to record $34.13B
NR: Does anyone else find it curious that the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issued these latest figures with such uncommon alacrity? I seem to recall that these numbers would often take months to churn out. What conspicuously fortuitous timing. Eh, wot?
Also, this sort of puts just a slight amount of additional pressure on bad-guy Jinping whilst allowing Trump to play the righteously aggrieved party. If I didn’t know any better, I’d have to say that somebody purposefully orchestrated this little state of affairs.
” “We’ve decided to shift part of our production from China because the impact of the tariffs is significant,” a spokesman said.”

Well, at least we can count on Trump making sure that few if any of those Commie drones will be setting foot in America. We invented plastic injection molding right here in the good old USA and still have more than adequate amounts of sufficiently talented human capital necessary to operate this sort of Civil War era (i.e., 1868) technology.
How do I know this? It’s because I personally operated a plastic injection molding system at Intel Corp. as part of performing per lot, per wafer, per chip, yield analysis on DIP (Dual Inline Package) glass fiber reinforced epoxy body integrated circuit packaging for the world’s first 256K CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) memory devices. And, yes, I bought off the molds and performed source inspection on them at the machinist’s shop, too.
This is something a high school graduate could learn in one work day.
P’raps another time I will bore you with the mysterious “soft errors” that plagued this integrated circuit’s initial production run until EDAX (Energy Dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) was performed to determine the cause of these totally unpredictable bit errors.
Just a little mite of pressure, China is discovering what the US having a strong leaders means. China is learning what “Total War” really means, they started using that term towards the end of the 20th Century saying they would wage “Total War” against the US and destroy us. They thought that the left in the West was going to dominate our political process forever and this would allow them to do what they want. Now they are facing a major economic disaster, and if they aren’t very careful this disaster will strike soon.
Right now the big questions are 1) will China remain intact after the economic disaster, 2) what form of government will China or the many smaller Chinas have?
“Just a little mite of pressure, China is discovering what the US having a strong leader means.”
Ah yup and boy howdy on the pressure angle. At the very least (sticking with chess metaphors), Communist China unexpectedly has made one of the most fatal blunders common to many greenhorn players.
It is one of chess’ most wholesome object lessons and a tutorial which any good (i.e., winning) player learns early and often. Namely, NEVER BASE YOUR OWN STRATEGY ON THE EXPECTATION THAT AN OPPONENT WILL MAKE A LESS-THAN-BEST MOVE.
Communist China’s presumption that America would permanently remain under the incompetent direction of its Liberal (i.e., Socialist) faction indicates an overreliance upon the persistent demoralization (per Bezmenov) of the US voter base and whatever officials they routinely elect.
“1) [W]ill China remain intact after the economic disaster[?]”
Yours are tough questions, Richard. Red China is so yuge that keeping it in a post-implosion situation of even semi-stable political contiguity will require an effort of will that most of its people are unaccustomed to exercising. Especially after so many decades of intense nanny-state conditioning.
However uninviting it may be for the Chinese masses, opportunities to lapse back into an oppressive, militarily dominated, sociopolitical construct will be manifold and almost impossible to disown as generals begin to exert regional power over whichever sectors happen to have fallen into the folds of their robes.
“2) [W]hat form of government will China or the many smaller Chinas have?”
Again, it’s hard to say, but I’m fairly confident that Mao’s own twisted brand of easily corrupted Stalinist–Leninist, hyper-centralized government will not make the next cut. Too many people still carry traumatic memories, if not blood feuds, dating from that tumultuous (and just as often deadly) era.
Bearing this in mind, it’s equally difficult to imagine that the PLA won’t stick their nose under the tent and that’s where everything gets rather squiffy.
Much as with Europe, the post-implosion’s end result is a largely unarmed Chinese citizenry milling about—with the only difference being that nearly one quarter of this world’s population is involved—while undergoing a degree of political and military instability whose stupendous proportions will make this nearly unique demographic into a proverbial ticking time bomb.
While the Uyghurs in western Xinjiang Province certainly are ripe for Balkanization, any relationship between the Mainland’s food-growing interior and its more wealthy mercantile coastal ports will be very ticklish to balance.
There are far too many interdependencies for Eastern regional fragmentation to bear much in the way of edible fruit. Still, there persists a striking income disparity between the agrarian and commercial territories which—however much Sino–Socialism was supposed to equilibrate—remains a perpetual thorn in the side of perceived equality and a serious obstacle to past, present, and future harmony.
So back to the days of the warlords fighting each other for anything that looks valuable.
I have a Chinese friend whose grandfather was – as he tells it – a “warlord”. Actually the product of generations of scholars and musicians and civil service who ruled China for thousands of years.
He had 4 sons. When the Communists took over, the sons were dispatched: one stayed on the mainland, the second went to Hong Kong, the third to Australia, and the fourth to Boston.
They were all brilliant, educated, industrious. (I’d add handsome, from pictures I’ve seen.) They became quite successful, the one in the PRC rising high in the Party.
The others, superb Western thinkers, as innovative and productive as Jews. My friend is a physics professor emeritus, MIT. Who’s also a gifted musician, close to our own Yo-Yo Ma.
All offspring of the second and third generations married ethnic Chinese. The families never lost contact.
Maybe the Chinese diaspora will develop its own Zionist-style nostalgia. Especially if the West goes all sub-Saharan and tardish.
That may be the best thing that could happen to China, a lot of Western born western culture ethnic Chinese moving back and bringing the old fashion Western ethics to China. They could provide the capital to repair the ecological damage and bring all of China into the 21st Century.
IF/when Communist China collapses Taiwan will try seizing a lot of the mainland near them and so will Hong Kong.
It’ll be push- rather than pull- factor that drives them from the West. Re-tribalization is already affecting them.
“since July, when the first tariffs hit”
Thank goodness I already admitted how, ” I’m not an Asian finance expert”. Obviously, the first round of tariffs were a proverbial, “shot across the bow”, for Red China or else Beijing’s screaming would have been audible over here in North America.
None of which significantly changes the context of my essay. Communist China is hemorrhaging external investment capital—right at a time when inflow of foreign hard currency is one of the few things propping up Beijing’s teetering pagoda of mahjong tiles.
Red China’s ongoing Ponzi scam makes hyper-felon, Bernie Madoff, look like a Boy Scout. Trump clearly embodies their every last worst nightmare all rolled into one super-Capitalist bio-engine.
Just as Madoff was more than likely responsible for not-a-few elderly investors losing their homes (with some even freezing to death beneath whatever freeway overpass)—so has China utterly disrupted America’s employment chain and likely driven an unspecified percentage of this nation’s homelessness.
It’s high time to return the favor to these economic predators.
Newt says that it may take a war to prove to China and Putin that the US is still much stronger then they are. Any war (no matter how small and brief) between the US and China will weaken the Chinese Communist Party to an extent that they will probably collapse.

“Be sure and check out the article about the fall of housing prices in China…”
From a historical perspective, Chinese people have to represent one of the biggest and most hapless victim pools on earth. In the past, year after year, Chinese households were positively famous for their “percentage of income saved”.
Yet, anyone with a mild appreciation of the Politburo’s lust for real capital—and not their own fiat government scrip—will know there isn’t any way they were content with all that wealth sitting around, stuffed into mattresses or buried in peoples’ back yards.
A few years back, the government issued thinly disguised orders that citizens must make some sort of financial investment in their nation’s future. Those dyed-in-the-wool Communists immediately purchased stocks in large government enterprises. The more skeptical bought property, usually in the form of an apartment in some newly built block.
Just as with the more recently introduced “Social Credit” system, this prior “patriotic investment” maneuver was much like Narendra Modi’s 2016 demonetization of the Ghandi series’ 500 and 1,000 rupee notes—which (in spite of massive economic turmoil) put a lot of previously anonymous currency hoarders on radar.
Of course, there is no shelter from the Communist storm and Beijing continued to build its almost totally unoccupied “ghost cities”. This program of blatant makework, in turn, created some 64 million vacant dwellings (as of June 2018). What this had done to dilute the capital outlay of all of those skeptical investors who bought property instead stocks (which promptly crashed and burned) is anybody’s guess.
So, after scouring out the savings of countless people, le voila!, here comes the “Social Credit” system to keep even the most disgruntled citizens on Beijing’s radar.
There’s no fighting a command economy.

There is a lot of money in the Western Nations that came out of Communist China, part of it is families getting money and kids out of Communist China and part is the Chinese Communist Party trying to buy influence.
The latter group will fall apart once the economic collapse starts but the second group is the important one, even after the many decades of Communist rule the family is still important tot he Chinese. I hadn’t thought about this for a long time and need to rethink what is going to happen when China collapses.
From what I understand, the family was religion. Duty, continuity, meaning.
How much of that has survived, hard to tell. Even if only within a small proportion, the numbers would be significant. Plenty in the diaspora will be searching for their roots when tshf.
“How much of that has survived, hard to tell.”
I would suggest examining what percentage of the Communist Chinese population still adheres to Confucianism as a useful number for that equation.

#MeToo Setback: Austrian politician convicted of libel for accusing man of sexual harassment on Facebook
In a setback for the global #MeToo movement, a former member of Austria’s parliament was convicted of libel this week against a man she publicly accused of sexually harassing her on Facebook.
In an unprecedented case, a judge at the Regional Court for Criminal Matters in Vienna ruled that Green Party politician Sigrid Maurer libeled the owner of a city craft beer store because she couldn’t prove that he actually posted the harassing messages on his Facebook account.
In March, Maurer, 33, an advocate for women’s rights, received obscene Facebook messages from the account of the owner of the store, where she walks by frequently. One said, “Hello you went to my shop today and looked at my c— as if you wanted to eat it.“
Maurer posted the messages on Facebook and Twitter, including his name and t

Thousands line up for zero-down-payment, subprime mortgages
Magdalene Altidor lost her home to foreclosure during the subprime mortgage crisis, but this week she was first in line at a four-day event in Miami where borrowers with poor credit were offered no-down payment, low interest rate loans.
“I left home, it was about 4 a.m.,” she laughed. “I’m ready to purchase a home.”
The event is one of several being held in cities across America this year, run by the nonprofit, Boston-based brokerage Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, or NACA.
“It’s a national disgrace about the low amount of homeownership, mortgages for low- and moderate-income people and for minority homebuyers,” said Bruce Marks, CEO of NACA. “In the loans that we’ve originated in the past 6 years, zero foreclosures.”
Marks and NACA were front and center during the subprime mortgage crisis, holding mass mortgage modification events across the country with banks and servicers. Bank of America was there then and the bank is with NACA now, backing the program with $10 billion in mortgage commitments.
Over 17 Inches of Snow Fell in North Dakota and It’s Only October
Over 17 inches of snow fell in parts of eastern North Dakota – the area’s first significant snowfall of the season – when snowstorm swept through the area this week.
The Grand Forks Air Force Base recorded a whopping 17.4 inches overnight Wednesday into Thursday with snow drifts piling up to 33 inches high, according to the National Weather Service’s Grand Forks office.
“It’s kind of unbelievable that this happened in October,” Andrew Moore, an NWS-Grand Forks meteorologist, told the Grand Forks Herald.
Some 15 miles east of the base, the NWS office in Grand Forks recorded 6.1 inches of snow, 5.7 of which fell on Wednesday alone, nearly doubling their daily record snowfall amount. The previous record was when 3 inches fell in 1921.

Frankfurt Book Fair: Harassment victim Anna Todd is threatened by police!–
During the Frankfurt Book Fair, the well-known US author Anna Todd became acquainted with the current “Way of Life” in Germany. On Friday, she was so badly harassed by a group of men in the lobby of her hotel that she cancelled one autograph session the next day because of fear.
The men had verbally attacked her for hours, and although they were thrown out of the hotel bar, they had returned again. “They called us sad, stupid women who they don’t want to fuck,” the 29-year-old described the harassment. The group was not of German origin, although they had spoken German to the staff, Anna Todd said on her Twitter account.

Black Africans and North Africans attack each other with knives and bottles in Düsseldorf, Germany–
It is still unclear what caused and what the course of a fight was, which in the night from Friday to Saturday triggered a brawl between several young men. In the course of the fighting, some of them were injured, two of them by the use of a knife. They had to be treated as in-patients. According to the current investigations of the Düsseldorf criminal police, a dispute between several young men from Africa and several Germans with a North African migration background occurred on Saturday morning, around 3 a.m., on Mutter-Ey-Street. The disputes as well as the following physical conflicts shifted from there in the direction of Andreas Church. Here several people were injured by knife wounds and bottles thrown and used. Two men from Guinea (28 and 22 years old) were taken to nearby hospitals because they were briefly at risk of death due to stab wounds in the thorax area. Numerous persons were temporarily arrested in unclear circumstances or brought to the Central Police Station as witnesses. Within the framework of an established investigation commission, all persons were released again after the interrogations and further investigations. The suspicion of the knife stabbing was directed against a 21 year old man from Düsseldorf. He is already known to the police several times, also for violent offences. Whether he was the one who stabbed with a knife, however, has not yet been conclusively clarified. It is also still unclear how many of those involved used dangerous objects or knives to defend themselves or to attack.

Saudi Arabia Vows Response to Any Sanctions Over Journalist’s Disappearance (sputniknews, Oct 14, 2018)
https://sputniknews.com/middleeast/201810141068873906-saudi-arabia-sanctions-khashoggi-disappearance/
“In an interview with CBS, US President Donald Trump pledged “to get to the bottom” of the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, warning that if it turns out that Saudi authorities are behind all this, the US would inflict “severe punishment” on them.
Saudi Arabia has rejected “any attempts to undermine it whether through threats to impose economic sanctions or the use of political pressure,” an official source was quoted by the country’s state-run news agency SPA as saying.
“The kingdom also affirms that it will respond to any action with a bigger one,” the source pointed out.
The source also referred to the Saudi economy, saying it “has vital and influential roles for the global economy.”
The remarks came after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose “severe punishment” on Saudi Arabia if it turns out that Riyadh is behind the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
At the same time, he emphasized that Riyadh has been “vehemently denying” the allegations of its involvement in the Khashoggi case.
Earlier, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s top senators penned a letter to Trump pressing him to consider imposing sanctions “with respect to any foreign person responsible for such a violation related to Mr. Khashoggi.”
“The recent disappearance of […] Khashoggi suggests that he could be the victim of a gross violation of internationally recognized human rights,” the senators wrote.
They added that it may include “torture or cruel, inhumane, or degrading treatment or punishment, prolonged detention without charges and trial, causing the disappearance of persons by the abduction and clandestine detention of those persons, and other flagrant denial of the right to life, liberty, or security of person.”
Meanwhile, the BBC reported that due to the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi from the Saudi embassy in Istanbul, London and Washington are considering boycotting this month’s investment conference in Riyadh, dubbed Davos in the Desert and hosted by Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to promote his reform agenda…”

Bear spray, bloody brawls at Patriot Prayer ‘law and order’ march in Portland
Updated 1:04 AM; Posted Oct 13, 7:49 PM
Warning: This post contains graphic content
A demonstration billed as a march for “law and order” in the streets of Portland descended into chaos as rival political factions broke into bloody brawls downtown Saturday night.
Members of the right-wing group Patriot Prayer and their black-clad adversaries, known as antifa, used bear spray, bare fists and batons to thrash each other outside Kelly’s Olympian, a popular bar on Southwest Washington Street.
The melee, which lasted more than a minute, ended when riot cops rushed in and fired pepper balls at the street fighters.

Portland mayor stands by decision to allow Antifa to block traffic, hassle motorists
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler came under fire over a viral video showing Antifa protesters blocking traffic and harassing drivers, but he says he supports the decision by police to watch from a distance without getting involved.
“I was appalled by what I saw in the video, but I support the Portland Police Bureau’s decision not to intervene,” he said at a Friday press conference. “This whole incident will be investigated.”
The video posted by journalist Andy C. Ngo showed protesters, including members of Antifa and Black Lives Matter, blocking an intersection and attempting to direct traffic at while officers on motorcycle watched from a block away.
At one point, the activists chased down 74-year-old Kent Houser after he made a right turn against their wishes, pounding on his silver Lexus and breaking a window. The car sustained thousands of dollars in damage, he told the Oregonian.

By my own lights, Mr. Houser would be well within his rights to sue the everliving crap out of the City of Portland for any and all vandalism done to his automobile. Given that the police were idly standing by within visual observation range, pursuing extra damages for emotional distress and unequal protection under the law would seem to be in order as well.
Pandering to and protecting violent, racist groups like Antifa or BLM from due consequences ought to carry an uncomfortable price tag attached to it. Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler deserves to be named as a codefendant. Let’s see if the ACLU will demonstrate an iota of integrity and provide Mr. Houser with pro bono representation.
Successful suit in a Portland courtroom?!
Who’s the judge?
Jury of peers?
Don’t worry the ACCLU won’t help him in anything, he would be suing someone doing what the far left wants.
Saudi threatens to retaliate against any sanctions over Khashoggi disappearance
DUBAI (Reuters) – Saudi Arabia rejected threats to punish it over the disappearance of journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul, saying the kingdom would retaliate against any sanctions with tougher measures, the official state news agency said on Sunday.
The comments came after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened “severe punishment” for Riyadh if it turned out Khashoggi, a prominent critic of Saudi authorities and a legal resident of the United States, was killed in the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.
“The Kingdom affirms its total rejection of any threats and attempts to undermine it, whether by threatening to impose economic sanctions, using political pressures, or repeating false accusations…” the official Saudi Press Agency quoted an unnamed government source as saying.
“The Kingdom also affirms that if it receives any action, it will respond with greater action, and that the Kingdom’s economy has an influential and vital role in the global economy…” the source added without elaborating.
The threat caused the stock market of the world’s biggest oil exporter to lose as much as $33 billion of its value on Sunday in one of the first signs of the economic pain that Riyadh could suffer over the affair.

Moroccan Migrant Goes on Drunken Lorry Rampage in Northern Italy (breitbart, Oct 14, 2018)
https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2018/10/14/moroccan-migrant-goes-on-drunken-lorry-rampage-in-northern-italy/
“Italian police pursued an inebriated Moroccan migrant at the wheel of a lorry on a miles-long chase late Thursday, as the man crashed into parked cars, road signs, fire hydrants, and even the doors of houses along the route.
The chase occurred in the town of Legnago, in the northern Italian province of Verona, and finally ended with the arrest of the driver. The migrant reportedly had hijacked a garbage truck, forcing the driver out of the vehicle and driving off in a “mad rush” and provoking suspicions of a terrorist act.
After the high-speed pursuit lasting “ten kilometers,” the Carbinieri military police were finally able to stop the 31-year-old driver by setting up a roadblock. The man crashed into one of the police cars at full speed, sending the car into another civilian vehicle with a woman inside.
Four police as well as the young woman sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.
The Moroccan has been charged with crimes of attempted murder, property damage, resistance of arrest, and aggravated injuries to a public official. The man reportedly already has a criminal record with precedents for vandalism, theft, and brawling…”

Anyone care to speculate as to the cost of all damages done by this useless little sack of sh!t? My cocktail napkin calculations place the financial losses incurred during just this one incident at well over $200,000, and that’s before court expenses or costs of incarceration.
This is why chain gangs were invented and a few decades spent clearing roadside brush (see: “Cool Hand Luke” with Paul Newman) or uninterruptedly sledgehammering large granite boulders into gravel for city park paths should be the very least that awaits this ambulatory, bipedal wad of Nafri excrement.
Plug in time missed from work for those whose cars were ruined, general repairs to private homes and public infrastructure, the costs of victim hospitalization, etc., and that $200k probably skyrockets up to +$300k.
All so that some smug, self-satisfied, virtue-signalling progs can sip their iced Pinot Grigio, pat each other on the back
side, have a flaccid circle-jerk, and repeatedly congratulate themselves over just how splendiferously magnanimous they are towards their poor little brown brothers.‘We are not civil’: Antifa vandalizes NYC GOP headquarters
By Jeff Dunetz October 13, 2018
Antifa vandalized the New York City Republican headquarters at the Metropolitan Republican Club Thursday evening, and promised there’s more to come. (Yes, there are some Republicans in NYC.)
It happened around 1:30 a.m. at the HQ location on East 83rd Street on Upper East Side, where windows were broken, doors were spray-painted, and glue was put in the locks and on the handles. A threatening message was also left at the scene, telling Republicans the “attack is merely a beginning.

Turkey: 22 migrants die in truck crash, 13 others injured (abcnews, Oct 14, 2018)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-15-migrants-including-children-die-truck-crash-58486513
“At least 22 migrants, including children, have been killed in a truck accident Sunday, Turkey’s official news agency said.
The Anadolu news agency said the migrants were traveling in a truck in the western province of Izmir that rolled over off a bridge. Video footage showed a destroyed truck, tipped upside down in a waterway with personal items scattered all around.
Thirteen people were injured in the crash and were being treated in nearby hospitals. Their nationalities were not given and authorities have launched an investigation.
Turkish media reported the driver was among the injured and said in his initial statement to police that a car had swerved in front of him.
Hundreds of thousands of migrants have set out to sea from Turkey’s coasts in the last few years to try to reach neighboring Greece, which is a member of the European Union. A deal with the EU in 2016 to send those migrants back to Turkey significantly curbed the number of border crossings but many desperate migrants still attempt the journey.”
Taliban attack Afghan army base, killing 17 soldiers (abcnews, Oct 14, 2018)
https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/taliban-attack-afghan-army-base-killing-17-soldiers-58488011
“The Taliban have attacked an army base in western Afghanistan, killing 17 Afghan soldiers and abducting 11 others, officials said Sunday.
Ghausuddin Noorzai, the district chief in Pusht Rod, said another four soldiers were wounded in the attack, which began late Saturday and continued into Sunday morning. He said the Taliban also overran two checkpoints near the base, seizing weapons and ammunition.
Abdul Samad Salehi, a member of the provincial council in Farah, confirmed the death toll and said the troops defending the base received no air support or reinforcements.
The Taliban claimed the attack, the latest in their near-daily assaults on Afghan security forces. The Taliban have seized a number of districts across the country in recent years as Afghan forces have struggled to hold rural areas and defend against coordinated attacks.
Elsewhere in Afghanistan, a young girl was killed and three others were wounded in the crossfire of a battle between Afghan forces and the Taliban in the western Herat province, according to Gelani Farhad, the spokesman for provincial governor.
Farhad said the main highway between the southern province of Kandahar and Herat was blocked for several hours.
The death toll from an attack on an election rally on Saturday in the northern Takhar province meanwhile climbed from 14 to 22, according to Jawad Hajri, a spokesman for the provincial governor.
He said another 36 people were wounded in the attack, in which a motorbike loaded with explosives exploded near the rally for Nazefa Yusoufi Beg, a female candidate running for parliament in the Oct. 20 elections.
No one immediately claimed responsibility for the attack, but the Taliban are active in the province and have claimed pervious attacks there.”

“I think some one just threw their career into the dumpster by not moving the planes.”
Three words: Dereliction of Duty
I think that everyone from the base commander—if not the air wing commander, too—right on down to the least qualified pilot on duty (or within appropriate response time and distance) all richly deserve to be busted down to buck privates and then dishonorably discharged without pension after serving maximum hard time in prison. In fact, the:
• Wing Commander
• Wing Staff
• Squadron Comptroller
• Operations Group
• Operations Support Squadron
• Operations Squadron
• Air Control Squadron
• Maintenance Group
• Maintenance Operations Squadron
• Aircraft/Missile Maintenance Squadron
• Maintenance Squadron
• Munitions Squadron
• Mission Support Group
• Force Support Squadron
• Civil Engineer Squadron
• Communications Squadron
• Contracting Squadron
• Logistics Readiness Squadron
• Security Squadron
• Aerial Port Squadron
• Medical Group
• Medical Operations Squadron
• Aerospace Medicine Squadron
• Dental Squadron
… all merit bookings in the gray-bar hotel (AKA Leavenworth). Well, maybe not the Dental Squadron but even they possessed enough military education to understand how Tyndall AFB was at extreme risk and that the 22 ($7,458,000,000 in taxpayer financed) birds stationed there—operational or not—were in harm’s way to where they absolutely, positively, had to be delivered from out of the storm track.
Days before hurricane Michael made landfall, base personnel ought to have been out scavenging and commandeering—at gunpoint, if necessary—heavy equipment transporters (i.e., flatbed semi trailers with ramps, tank transporters, etc.) or any other similar type of motorized platform along with whatever cranes or airport tugs required to load up these almost two dozen $339 million each stealth fighters as part of evacuating Tyndall AFB.
Even if every last hijacked truck was carrying the world’s most expensive tractor (e.g., a 600 HP Case Quadtrac) at $600 000 a throw and those were abandoned to drown in the storm surge, that would have racked up a peasely $15 million dollars in necessary compensation for the owners.
That $7,458,000,000 price tag could have bought almost 12,500 of those insane Case Quadtracs.

Is the Left just now discovering that not all women think alike?
By Howard Portnoy October 13, 2018
Maybe I’m being over-optimistic by broadly ascribing this epiphany to the entire “Left.” After all, the article title my headline riffs on — “Women Don’t Think Alike. Why Do We Think They Do?” — appears in Friday’s New York Times.
The piece is by Susan Chira, the Times’s editor on gender issues, who seems to be the first person on the Left to make this astonishing discovery. She writes, as if she had uncovered some ancient scroll that unleashed a startling eternal truth:

Killing Free Speech
(OIC at it again, this time blasphamy laws in the west)
Relates to UN article 16/18
Andrew C. McCarthy, a critic of Resolution 16/18, maintains that:
«Sharia forbids any speech — whether true or not — that casts Islam in an unfavorable light, dissents from settled Muslim doctrine, has the potential to sow discord within the ummah, or entices Muslims to renounce Islam or convert to other faiths. The idea is not merely to ban gratuitous ridicule — which, by the way, sensible people realize government should not do (and, under our Constitution, may not do) even if they themselves are repulsed by gratuitous ridicule. The objective is to ban all critical examination of Islam, period…» [Emphasis in original]

Muslim Slaughter of Christians
Pakistan: A Muslim man set a Christian woman on fire because she refused to convert to Islam and marry him. Asma Yaqoob, 25, with burns covering nearly 90 percent of her body, died five days later. According to her father, his son and he were waiting for Asma, a domestic servant, at the home of her employer, when she answered a knock on the door. “After some time we heard her screaming in pain,” he said. They “rushed outside to see what had happened” and saw Rizwan Gujjar, 30, a onetime family friend, fleeing “while Asma was engulfed in flames.” Three months earlier Gujjar had begun pressuring Asma to marry him. She, “not wanting to recant her Christian faith,” politely declined and tried to avoided him, says another report. So, on April 17, when she answered the door, he doused her with gasoline and set her aflame. According to her mother:

Christians Sentenced to Death Under Sharia Law

Frequently, Shiite Islamic preachers and leaders can be heard stating that Islam recognized “People of the Book,” which refers to Christians and Jews. This assertion sounds as if Islam gives Christian and Jews the same level of status and respect as their Muslim counterparts.
That argument was recently confirmed when the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Hassan Rouhani, claimed that “Christians have the same rights as others do.” With that confirmation, it might be easy to assume that Christians are relatively safe in Iran. But are they?
In speeches, and on paper, these words probably give the impression that Christians are not only welcome in Iran, but given equal rights and protections. However, the everyday experiences of Christians in Iran, tell a very different story.
Violence and persecution against Christians have, under the sharia law of Iran, increased significantly. One recent case documents the traumatic experiences of Pastor Victor Bet-Tamraz and his wife Shamiram Issavi, ethnic Assyrian Christians, along with Amin Afshar Naderi and Hadi Asgari, who converted to Christianity from Islam. Each were sentenced by the Revolutionary Court in Tehran to a combined total of 45 years in prison. Despite Iran’s claims that they have equal rights and protections, they may never see freedom again.
What terrible crime must they have committed to warrant such a harsh punishment? Surely it had to be more than simply being Christians? After all, the President of Iran had made it clear that Christians enjoy equal rights. The ambiguous charges they faced included vague terms such as conducting “illegal church activities” and threatening “national security.”
YouTube has taken a very curious decision and marked the traditional German National Anthem as inappropriate or offensive.
The clip has almost 3 million views and includes all three verses of the anthem. Nowadays only the third verse is sung.
Some people wrongly believe it is the Nazi version, as Chris Fox a BBC reporter did. The anthem predates the Nazis and they only sang the first verse followed by the Horst-Wessel-Song. The melody was first written in 1796/97. The verses of the poem were written in 1841.
https://voiceofeurope.com/2018/10/youtube-now-warns-that-the-german-national-anthem-is-offensive-for-some-groups/
Note: soon, all ‘national’ anthems and flags will be considered ‘offensive’, as they do not further the globalization and one world government…

Munich – Christian Social Union (CSU) has controlled the Bavarian political scene for over 60 years, but there might be a change coming.
Polling rooms will open their doors this weekend and it is expected that CSU will have the lowest percentage of the votes since World War II. CSU has been continuously governing Bavaria since 1957 and they are accustomed to clearly winning and controlling the majority in the government.
Pre-election surveys conducted by research institute Civey predict that CSU should prepare for a shock as only 35 per cent of voters expressed their support for the Social Union. Compared to 2013 where they received almost 48 per cent, and even higher, almost 60 per cent in 2003, it is clearly visible that CSU is heading for a disaster.

A university in New York has been accused of chilling constitutionally protected speech by demanding a meeting with a student who engaged in a legal activity that was shown in a photo on Twitter.
Long Island University’s treatment of student Anand Venigalla was spotlighted by the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education.
His “offense” was taking part in an event sponsored by Cabela’s, the popular outdoor sporting goods chain.
He was photographed legally holding unloaded firearms at an off-campus event.
For that, LIU officials told Venigalla it was “imperative” that he meet with them.
When FIRE asked why a student was being investigated for legal activities, the school denied it was an investigation.
FIRE, however, remained unconvinced, and asked university officials to acknowledge that a mandatory administrative meeting about “non-threatening social media posts” suppresses free-speech rights.

At least 17 soldiers have been killed in Taliban raids on two military posts in western Afghanistan, officials said.
The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks that began late on Saturday in the Pusht Rod district of Farah province and continued into Sunday. The strikes come a week before voters cast their ballots in parliamentary elections across the war-torn country.
The raids involved “a large number of Taliban”, according to Farah provincial council chief Farid Bakhtawar.

Fusion GPS co-founder Glenn Simpson is pleading the fifth because he’s in “real legal jeopardy,” said a member of the House Judiciary Committee on Sunday.
Last week, Simpson’s lawyer announced that his client intends to “invoke his constitutional rights not to testify” for a closed-door deposition on Oct. 16.
Rep. John Ratcliffe, R-Texas, said he is not surprised Simpson would take such a course of action, considering how his past testimony clashes with what a Justice Department official under scrutiny told the committee.
“The reason for that … is that Glenn Simpson had previously testified under oath to the House Intelligence Committee that he never met with Bruce Ohr or discussed with Bruce Ohr the Steele dossier prior to the October [Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act] application in 2016 or the 2016 presidential election,” Ratcliffe said on Fox News. “That is in direct contradiction to what Bruce Ohr told me under oath last month. I’m not surprised he is taking the Fifth. He probably should. He’s in real legal jeopardy. Very clearly someone is not telling the truth. Nellie Ohr, Bruce’s Ohr wife, certainly can shed some light.”
Simpson’s firm Fusion GPS hired former British spy Christopher Steele during the 2016 campaign to conduct the opposition research, which led to the so-called Trump or Steele dossier containing a number of unverified claims about potentially compromising ties between President Trump and Russia.

Turkey is renaming the street on which a new U.S. embassy is being built after the black Muslim civil rights leader Malcolm X, according to a story tweeted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s spokesman Ibrahim Kalin.
The Ankara municipal assembly decided by a unanimous vote to rename the street after an order from Erdogan, Haberturk TV reported. The Turkish president met with Malcolm X’s daughters in New York during a United Nations assembly meeting, it said, calling Malcolm X a symbol of “the struggle against racism.” He was assassinated in 1965.

Members of an organized voter fraud ring have been arrested and indicted on charges they targeted and, in one case stole, the votes of elderly voters on the city’s north side.
Four people were arrested — Leticia Sanchez, Leticia Sanchez Tepichin, Maria Solis and Laura Parra — after being indicted on 30 felony counts of voter fraud, according to a statement from the Texas Attorney General’s Office.
These people allegedly were paid to target older voters on the north side “in a scheme to generate a large number of mail ballots and then harvest those ballots for specific candidates in 2016,” the statement read.
“Ballots by mail are intended to make it easier for Texas seniors to vote,” Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton said in a statement. “My office is committed to ensuring that paid vote harvesters who fraudulently generate mail ballots, stealing votes from seniors, are held accountable for their despicable actions and for the damage they inflict on the electoral process.”

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s Supreme Court has suspended the planned deportation of an American graduate student who has been held in detention while fighting an expulsion order over her involvement in the boycott movement against Israel.
The court ruled Sunday that Lara Alqasem’s deportation be frozen until judges have a chance to hear the appeal in the coming week.
Yotam Ben-Hillel, Alqasem’s lawyer, submitted the appeal on Sunday.

Chinese regional authorities recently laid out the kind of speech suppression that Google will likely have to facilitate for the country’s persecuted Muslim ethnic minority to launch its new product in China.
Authorities in Xinjiang, a region in western China, on Tuesday, passed new local laws demonstrating how officials should root out banned speech to fight so-called religious extremists.
Around 11 million Uighurs, a mostly-Muslim ethnic minority, live in Xinjiang, and are subject to some of the most intrusive surveillance measures in the world, which include being monitored by 40,000 facial recognition cameras across the region, and having their DNA samples and blood types recorded.
Tuesday’s laws made clear that authorities want tech companies to play their part in the surveillance, policing, and silencing of the Uighurs. Beijing justifies its crackdown in Xinjiang — also known to Uighurs as East Turkestan — as a counterterrorism measure, though it’s denied UN inspectors access to the region.

Sweden’s, and perhaps the world’s largest outdoor Christmas concert “Oh Holy Night”, which traditionally airs on Swedish national TV on Christmas Eve each year, has been cancelled, SVT news reports.
This is most likely yet another example of Swedish traditions being suppressed in order not to offend migrants who don’t hold Christian beliefs.
Earlier incidents include:
Replacing Lucia, who according to the ancient Swedish Pagan Yule tradition always has been a long haired, blonde, beautiful woman, with a black boy.
Putting a woman in a hijab on the annual Advent/Christmas calendar.
Cancelling the traditional student choirs’ appearance on TV at Valborg (Swedish Pagan spring celebration).

No, he hasn’t won his court case — that won’t come up again for weeks, or maybe months; they’ll drag it out for as long as they can.
But Tommy has won. This is not a little victory, but a major one: his actions have forced the local authorities in Bradford to explicitly and publicly acknowledge that Pakistanis make up a massively disproportionate share of the suspects in “grooming” cases — that is, the organized sexual enslavement of underage white girls by non-white Muslim gangs.
And those same authorities acknowledge Tommy’s role in what they are discussing: “If we don’t ask these questions, Tommy Robinson will.”
In the pie graph above you can see the Pakistani share of the cases, which looks like a Pac-Man icon with its mouth open wide. Can you imagine what it would look like if the figures had been normed to reflect the size of each group as a percentage of the population? The big mouth would snap shut on the little sliver of the “White British” share.

More than 1300 Honduran men, women, and children began a trek that is expected to take them through Central America and Mexico. Some of the migrants plan to seek asylum in Mexico while others plan to head to the U.S. border. The march appears to be organized through social media.
The march, dubbed “March of the Migrants,” began this weekend in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, where more than 1300 men, women, and children began a trek that will take them from Honduras to Guatemala and into Mexico where some will seek refugee status. Others are expected to continue north to the U.S border, Reuters reported.
Soon after the march began, social media groups promoting the well being of Honduras and Central America posted videos and photographs condemning the government and the lack of opportunities in the country.

With all eyes on Sunday’s Bavaria election, moments ago the first exit polls showed a historic collapse for the ruling CSU party, which has ruled Bavaria continuously since 1957, and which saw its share of the vote collapse from 47.7% in the 2013 election to just 35.5%, losing its absolute majority and suffering its worst result since 1950, as voters defected in their droves to the Greens and the far-right Alternative for Germany.
German newspaper Welt called the election “the most painful election defeat of the past 50 years for the CSU”. As predicted in the polls, the CSU experienced a “historic debacle” in the Bavarian state elections, according to Welt. The CSU was followed by the Greens which soared in the election, more than doubling to 18.5% from 8.6% in 2013, the Free Voters also rose to 11% from 9.0%, in 2013.
Meanwhile, the nationalist AfD are expecting to enter Bavaria’s parliament for the first time ever with 11% of the vote, and as such are setting up for their post-election party. Party leader Alice Weidel already is having the first beer in the small community of Mamming in Lower Bavaria.

According to the Greek webpage Kathimerini, 1,130 parents living with their children on the Greek island of Chios, sent a letter of protest to the principals of their schools, in which they declared that they do not want their children to study together with migrant children.
The letter of protest was also communicated to various high ranking officials on the island of Chios.
The 1,130 parents state that the right of refugee and migrant children to be educated is not only fully respected by them, but it is also an obligation of the state to do it without the participation of NGOs.
“We, the inhabitants of these islands, are the ones who have carried almost the whole weight of this situation, which the decision-makers do not seem to understand at least at a practical level. But is the ministry’s design well-thought out in all its parameters and is it one that works for all children? ” They ask and continue: “The inconsistency of the entire spectrum of migration management, the chaotic distance between the occasional promises and promises and their results, as well as our obligation as parents and as citizens, leads us to point out the wrong texts we identify…”

French hero, who sacrificed himself to save a hostage from an Islamist, won’t have a place named after him as ‘it may offend Muslims’
By Abdelhamid Kaddour , Voice of Europe, 13 October 2018:
French hero Arnaud Beltrame, who sacrificed himself to save a hostage from a Islamist terrorist, won’t have a place named after him because it may upset Marseille’s huge Muslim community, Valeurs Actuelles reports.
On 24 March 2018, an ISIS terrorist stormed a supermarket in Trèbes, armed with a handgun, a hunting knife and three homemade bombs. He shot two people dead and took others hostage.

Robert Spencer: Campa-Najjar and Sinema Prove the Democrats are the Party of Treason
The adage that the Democrats are the Party of Treason is being proven true more frequently than ever before during this election cycle.
Imagine if a Republican candidate had been found to have donated money to the Ku Klux Klan. This is far more farfetched than the Leftist media establishment would have you believe, but just imagine in any case that it really happened, and that instead of resigning, the candidate doubled down, and attacked those who had called his donation to light.
Would that candidate have any chance of winning? After the media savaging he would justifiably receive, not on your life.
But consider the case of Ammar Campa-Najjar, who is running against Representative Duncan Hunter for a California Congressional seat. Campa-Najjar’s campaign, according to a Breitbart News report, “made a ‘civic donation’ of $650.00 to CAIR in 2017.” Campa-Najjar, meanwhile, “received nearly $9,000 from CAIR officials.”
In response to this revelation, Campa-Najjar got into a Twitter argument with Breitbart’s Joel Pollack, in which he at first promised: “If you prove that the local chapter has sympathized with terrorism, I’ll demand for $650 be refunded and refund members of the chapter their donations. Prove so and I’ll refund.” When Pollack provided proof, however, Campa-Najjar changed the subject to allegations against his opponent Hunter.
And that will most likely be that. A donation to CAIR? Pah! Why should anyone be concerned about that, other than racist, bigoted “Islamophobes”?

German teenage girl called ‘Nazi’ for reading poem about migrant violence – Her house vandalised as well
This is more of the poison fruit of Merkel’s relentless stigmatizing and demonizing of all those who dare to oppose her suicidal program of mass Muslim migration. The slightest critical voice being raised — even that of a 14-year-old girl at a Poetry Slam — is smeared as “Nazi,” and with the left growing increasingly violent and thuggish, it was perhaps inevitable that her home would be vandalized as well. If Germany were remotely sane today, Merkel would be forced to resign over this. But it isn’t, and she won’t be.

If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that political correctness has gone too far. A new study from the international organization More in Common showed a whopping 80% of people think that “political correctness is a problem.”
The study focuses on the U.S., but I’d wager the numbers are similar in Canada.
Every day there are stories in the news about social media mobs going after someone for saying the wrong thing, or demanding that someone lose their job or their platform for saying things that other people don’t like.
This has a chilling impact on freedom of speech. It impedes on our ability to think, to discuss new ideas, to work through problems, to rightfully criticize things we don’t like, and to try to make our society a better place.
I’ll give you two recent examples of political correctness run amok.
