  1. Trump Has 30 Days to Update Congress on Saudi, UAE Objectives in Yemen – NDAA (sputniknews, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/us/201808141067172095-usa-yemen-uae-ndaa-congress-trump/

“The Trump administration has 30 days to submit to Congress a report on Saudi Arabia’s and the United Arab Emirates’(UAE) objectives in Yemen, the US National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) revealed.

Earlier in the day the 2019 NDAA, which authorizes $716 billion of US defense spending, was signed into law by President Donald Trump during a ceremony at Fort Drum in New York.

“Not later than 30 days after the date of the enactment of this Act, the President or the President’s designee shall provide a briefing to the appropriate committees of Congress including… a description of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates’ military and political objectives in Yemen and whether United States assistance to the Saudi-led coalition has resulted in significant progress towards meeting those objectives,” the NDAA said.

The administration must also provide details on Saudi Arabia’s efforts to avoid disproportionate harm to civilians in Yemen and whether US assistance has helped decrease the number of civilian deaths by Saudi-led airstrikes, the legislation said.

Last week, Yemeni media reported that the Saudi-led coalition’s warplanes had struck a school bus at a busy market in northern Yemeni province of Saada, a stronghold of Houthi rebels, who are engaged in violent conflict with the government supported by the coalition. The strike reportedly killed at least 50 people and wounded another 77. Over half of the killed were children under the age of 15.

The NDAA will also require the Trump administration to list sources of external support for the Houthi rebels including financial assistance, weapons transfers, operational planning, training, and advisory assistance, the legislation said.

The administration’s report must also include a report on the applicability of US and international sanctions against Houthi rebels and individuals or entities providing the Houthi forces with material support, the legislation said.

In addition, legislation said the administration must assess the effect of the Saudi-led coalition’s military operations in Yemen on the efforts of the United States campaign to defeat al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula and the Daesh terrorist group.

For several years, Yemen has been experiencing a violent conflict between the government and the Houthi rebels. In March 2015, the conflict escalated as the Saudi-led coalition started carrying out airstrikes against Houthis at the government’s request.”

    • The strike reportedly killed at least 50 people and wounded another 77. Over half of the killed were children under the age of 15.

      Women and children hit hardest…

      The Narrative™ continues.

    • The Saudis are paying AQAP as mercenaries against the Houthis and misc. Yemeni tribals. They’re giving them advanced weapons (U.S. top-of-the-line), and we provide training and maintenance. Our defense contractors are thrilled at these big-ticket purchases, don’t look too closely at the recipients.

They stage assaults, then retreat to the north where they’re firmly established. They’re NOT “conquering” rebels; they barely engage. They’re retreating to a region they now own.

The topography is ideal for such a stronghold. AQAQ _grows_ all the time: battle-hardened, armed by us to go against us. When they’re ready.

They’re intimately tied to MB-Yemen (the al-Islah Party), which represents the “internationally recognized” President Hadi (i.e. the Saudi favorite). They include al-Q from the Afghan campaign, as well as ISIS and many of the best foreign fighters.

We’re dancing with Wolves, let’s not kid ourselves.

Saudis are using them, we’re turning a blind eye because we share the same enemy: _Iran_. So does Israel. That’s the beginning and the end of it. Once Iran is neutralized, we’ll see changes in alignment.

The UAE has different interests. They seek to control the south. It fits with their commercial plan, the Dubai Port World conglomerate. They’ve allied with southern tribes and made extensive use of foreign mercenaries.

The south is really a different country than the north. It’s more liberal, considers the MB their worst enemy. They share Egypt’s point of view here, and it’s decidedly different from that of the Saudis. Not so anti-Iran, more anti-jihadi.

Don’t forget, Nasser was tangled in a lengthy, brutal war here. El-Sissi is a very reluctant, token “partner” right now. The Egyptian “street” wouldn’t tolerate much more.

To ignore the divergent interests of “our Sunni Gulf allies”, aka, the “Axis of Moderation”, may be politically expedient for PTrump _at_ this _moment_.

It’s a gross and misleading oversimplification, but it’s considered necessary to convince the U.S. public. We’re unlikely to support even a temporary, tactical alliance with the folks who brought us 9/11. Who continue to target our soldiers in Afghanistan. Who befriend the MB, selectively.

This explains why propaganda lauding Saud and the bogus “GCC” blankets U.S. administration-friendly media. The praise is over-the-top for the Saudi govt, especially the Madison Avenue packaged MbS.

If he can continue as our puppet without domestic upheaval, so much the better. The presentation varies by region, by language. It tends to be more nuanced.

But this is an inherently unstable situation. Irrespective of outside major power machinations, this is the Middle East. It’s generating its own stew all the time. Always has, always will.

      • The article Richard posted yesterday illustrates my argument: The Gulf States: The Weak Link in Sanctions on Iran
        https://besacenter.org/perspectives-papers/gulf-states-weak-link-sanctions-on-iran/

The UAE, Kuwait, and our other “moderate Sunni allies” – GCC! hah! – aren’t exactly models of cooperation. With each other or us. They have mixed motives, dubious loyalties, and most crucially: they are NOT enemies of our enemies.

Only the Saudis – and not all of them – regard Iran as an existential threat. (Even as they double-deal with our worst jihadi enemies. Our defense industry contractors are just fine with that, so that makes it kosher. I guess…)

The only reason the UAE is fighting in Yemen is to grab the south coast for its commercial empire. Others are just out to make a buck. Iran continues to be a major trading partner. From the article linked above:

“Iran’s non-oil trade with the UAE, Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia amounted to $23.89 billion in 2017. In the first three months of 2018, it increased by nearly 17% compared to the previous year. Such trade yields a surplus for Iran of $3 billion – not a trivial figure, though it is substantially less than in previous years.

Most of this trade – over $16 billion – occurred between Iran and the UAE despite Iran’s occupation of the Abu Musa and al-Tunb islands, which the UAE claims as its own. The UAE was Iran’s second-biggest trading partner in the world last year after China.

Equally robust are the flight connections that the UAE, principally Dubai, offers to and from Iran. Dubai is the second-most popular getaway for Iranian citizens after Istanbul, Turkey.”

No matter what they do, the American security umbrella has them covered. And that’s just fine, as long as they buy our think-tanks, lobbyists, and keep our military-industrial complex humming.

        • This arming of AQAP is probably a hold over from the Obama administration another possibility is that some of the MB infiltrators in the US Government have managed to get in charge of the arming and training program for the AP and are covering/lying about who we are arming.

          • PTrump’s gotten close enough to the Saudis to know better. It’s hardly a secret. Talk of a “Sunni NATO”, woo-woo with the double-dealing Emiratis, for heavens sake!

PT’s chosen to look the other way. It’s cute for PR spin,
but it will come back to bite us, the US of A.

We’ve got _serious_ problems in the Pentagon. Mattis should’ve been replaced along with Tillerson and McMasters [poo].

I can’t believe Brett H. McGurk is still on the job. Completely at odds with this administration’s stated policies.

To the military advisors: Hello, there’s a new C-in-Chief. Get it?

All the watchers – including our favorite lady analyst – are rolling their eyes. Discreetly.

  2. Tamara Crowchief may have yelled “I hate white people” as she carried out a violent assault on a white person, but that doesn’t mean her attack was racially motivated, a Canadian judge has ruled.

The attack occurred outside a pub in Calgary, Canada, on Nov. 1, according to the Calgary Herald. Crowchief’s victim, identified as Lydia White, lost a tooth in the assault, the paper reported.

Prosecutor Karuna Ramakrishnan had tried to put Crowchief behind bars for 12 to 15 months by arguing that the indigenous woman’s “unprovoked” actions represented a hate crime, the paper reported. But Judge Harry Van Harten of the provincial court strongly disagreed.

[Britain confronts a wave of racist incidents after the Brexit vote]

“The offender said, ‘I hate white people’ and threw a punch,” Van Harten told those gathered in the court during his ruling. “There is no evidence either way about what the offender meant or whether . . . she holds or promotes an ideology which would explain why this assault was aimed at this victim. I am not satisfied beyond a reasonable doubt that this offense was, even in part, motivated by racial bias.”

    • “Judge Harry Van Harten of the provincial court strongly disagreed.”

Maybe she hated people with the surname White?

That she actually said she hate people with the surname White should by definition make it the marxist Hate Crime.

The truth is no defence and it is no longer the prosecution.

      • Western nations no longer have the rule of law, we have the rule of man with special laws for special people. This is guaranteed to create massive radical tribalism with the rise of ethnic idendity being used to determine the guilt or innocence of all people accused of crimes. This will in turn create real racism and a return ot the White Supremacist, ethnic militias and massive racial violence. The video I posted yesterday of the Blacks at the St. Louis is the beginning of the open display of the Black Militias in the US. ANTIFA is a left wing White Militia (New leftist name anti-hate protesters) the Proud Boys is a conservative White Militia and more will be formed in the future.

  3. Ahed Tamimi has called on “Palestinians to murder Israelis through ‘martyrdom-seeking operations’ (i.e., suicide bombings), stabbing attacks, and stone-throwing…” — Bradley Martin, researcher.

If Palestinian Arabs are stateless today, it is by their own choice. Their leaders have chosen to expend their energies on wiping Israel from the face of the earth rather than on establishing a state of their own next to Israel.

Palestinian Arabs keep rejecting offers to establish a state of their own, according to David Brog, with Israel, Britain and the UN having offered Palestinian Arabs the opportunity to build their own state on five separate occasions — in 1936, 1947, 1967, 2000, and 2008.

Turkey, on the other hand, has never accepted the right to self-rule of any non-Turkish people living in Asia Minor and historic Armenia, which is today eastern Turkey.

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12828/turkey-palestinians-hate-fest

    • The “Two State” solution will never work, except as another Final Solution. That Israelis would have to transit a ten-mile-wide corridor between Gaza and the West Bank as they seek north–south passage within their own country is beyond laughable or hilarious.

Such a typically moronic proposition is an insult to all thinking minds and a pluperfect example of lunatic Muslim demands (…and a pony!). This sort of undisguised, genocidal tommyrot is what will see Gaza (literally) flushed out into the Sinai and get the West Bank shoveled over the fence into Jordan.

Let Muslim countries deal with the consequences of having supported this purposefully designed, low-intensity “conflict” (i.e., terrorism) for all these years. That they’ve finally begun to come around regarding what a complete-and-total enemy the Muslim Brotherhood happens to be is of no consequence or redemptive value. The time has come for these various Islamic pissholes to take ownership (and suffer the consequences) of their institutionalized Antisemitic doctrine.

  4. As Americans continue to debate what to do about the humanitarian crisis in the Middle East, this analysis attempts to estimate the costs of resettling refugees from that region in the United States. Although we do not consider all costs, our best estimate is that in their first five years in the United States each refugee from the Middle East costs taxpayers $64,370 — 12 times what the UN estimates it costs to care for one refugee in neighboring Middle Eastern countries. The cost of resettlement includes heavy welfare use by Middle Eastern refugees; 91 percent receive food stamps and 68 percent receive cash assistance. Costs also include processing refugees, assistance given to new refugees, and aid to refugee-receiving communities. Given the high costs of resettling refugees in the United States, providing for them in neighboring countries in the Middle East may be a more cost-effective way to help them.

Among the findings of this analysis:

On average, each Middle Eastern refugee resettled in the United States costs an estimated $64,370 in the first five years, or $257,481 per household.
The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has requested $1,057 to care for each Syrian refugee annually in most countries neighboring Syria.
For what it costs to resettle one Middle Eastern refugee in the United States for five years, about 12 refugees can be helped in the Middle East for five years, or 61 refugees can be helped for one year.
UNHCR reports a gap of $2.5 billion in funding that it needs to care for approximately four million Syrians in neighboring countries.
The five-year cost of resettling about 39,000 Syrian refugees in the United States is enough to erase the current UNHCR funding gap.
The five-year costs of resettlement in the United States include $9,230 spent by the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) within HHS and the Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM) within the State Department in the first year, as well as $55,139 in expenditures on welfare and education.
Very heavy use of welfare programs by Middle Eastern refugees, and the fact that they have only 10.5 years of education on average, makes it likely that it will be many years, if ever, before this population will cease to be a net fiscal drain on public coffers — using more in public services than they pay in taxes.

  5. Finally someone has a clue about the nature of total War. However he does miss the point that communist infiltration and disinformation of the west has NEVER ceased and antifa is part of this as is the destruction of education, academia and the arts in the west.
How he can ignore this is beyond me unless he is that archetypical mythological history prof. who when told why a student was looking out the window(at enemy ?soviet tanks entering the town) told him to sit down as the present has nothing to do with history.

The decades-long “Cold War” (1947-1989) between the United States and the Soviet Union was so named because the two global powers never came to direct blows. Yet, the war was not without its victims. In fact, millions of Cubans, Koreans and Vietnamese suffered under Communist tyranny.

  6. TRUMP IS THE FIRST PRESIDENT TO GET TURKEY RIGHT

Good riddance to the so-called strategic relationship between Washington and Ankara.

“the pressure that the Trump administration has brought to bear on Turkey is a welcome change from the passivity of the last two administrations, which preferred to overlook Turkey’s malign policies, either in an effort to try cajole Ankara to support the United States or because they did not want to risk a rift with a “strategic partner.” Not only did this approach not work, but it also sent the message to Ankara that it was so valuable an ally that there would be no consequences for its actions.

For the longest time, the legacy of the Cold War and the NATO alliance have framed the discussion of Turkey in Washington and Europe. Perhaps the controversy over Pastor Brunson and the way the Turkish government has responded to the lira crisis will be a clarifying moment, highlighting what should be clear by now: Turkey is no longer an ally or partner.”

  8. Westminster car crash: Man arrested as pedestrians injured

Two people have been injured after a car crashed into security barriers outside the Houses of Parliament.
Officers were seen surrounding the vehicle before a man was arrested, shortly after 07:30 BST.
Cyclists were hit in the crash and London Ambulance Service said it had taken two patients to hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
Scotland Yard’s counter-terrorism unit is leading the investigation but the force is “keeping an open mind”.
Armed police, ambulances and firefighters are continuing to respond to the incident in central London.
While a number of eyewitnesses have said the silver car appeared to deliberately hit members of the public, police cannot say if the incident is related to terrorism at this stage.

London’s Metropolitan Police say that they are treating the crash outside of Parliament as a terrorist incident.

Authorities said in a statement Tuesday that a man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of terrorist offenses after the silver Ford Fiesta collided with a number of cyclists and pedestrians before crashing into the barriers during the morning rush hour.

He is in custody. No one else was in the car, which is being searched at the scene of the accident.

    • Most of the events we report aren’t covered by the national and international news because the Propaganda media doesn’t want to “alarm” us by telling us the truth.

      • Remember that in many parts of the west they do not even allow the public naming of defendants on trial for crimes because the names might give a clue to their motives.

  11. ‘Dozens dead’ in Italy after huge section of Genoa motorway bridge collapses in ‘immense tragedy’ (telegraph, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/08/14/casualties-feared-huge-section-motorway-bridge-collapses-italy/

“Dozens of people are reported to have been killed after a large section of motorway bridge collapsed onto houses in the northern port city of Genoa.

The head of the local ambulance service said there were “dozens of dead”, Italian news agency Adnkronos reported. However, Maria Luisa Catalano of the highway police in Genoa said work was ongoing, adding, “we don’t know numbers of victims/injured yet.”

Danilo Toninelli, the Transport Minister, said in a tweet that he was “following with great apprehension what seems like an immense tragedy”.

Up to 100 yards of the motorway collapsed at around 11:30am (9.30am GMT) during torrential rainfall after Genoa was hit by a strong thunderstorm.

“The debris from the collapse came to within 20 metres of my car,” said a witness, Davide Ricci, who saw the bridge go down while he was driving.

“First the central pylon crumbled, then the whole thing came down.”

Another witness told Sky Italia television he saw “eight or nine” vehicles on the bridge when it collapsed in what he said was an “apocalyptic scene”.

The first injured have been extracted from the rubble and taken to hospital, according to Italian media reports.

Italian news agency ANSA said one person had been extracted alive from and was being transported by helicopter to a hospital.

Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said some 200 firefighters were responding to the accident.

“We are following minute by minute the situation for the bridge collapse in Genoa,” Salvini said on Twitter.

A video has emerged on Facebook of the moment the bridge collapsed, with a witness saying “Oh my God, oh my God.”

The fire service said it was feared that cars that were on the motorway had plummeted when it suddenly gave way.

Italian television showed images of the collapsed bridge, which was built on the A10 toll motorway in the 1960s.

Restructuring work on the bridge was carried out in 2016…”

    • Salvini Points Finger at EU After Italian Bridge Disaster Kills 35

Deputy Premier Matteo Salvini and his allies seized on the collapse of a bridge in northern Italy to question whether their country should respect European Union budget constraints.

The failure of a roughly 50-year-old suspension bridge in Genoa shows how important it is to increase investment spending in Italy, Salvini told reporters Tuesday in Catania, Sicily, hinting that EU spending limits could put lives at risk.

“If external constraints prevent us from spending to have safe roads and schools, then it really calls into question whether it makes sense to follow these rules,” Salvini, who heads the euroskeptic League, said. “There can be no tradeoff between fiscal rules and the safety of Italians.”

[…]Italy’s coalition government won’t face any blame for the accident and may have some success in extracting political capital from it, said Francesco Galietti, founder of political consultancy Policy Sonar.

“The clear lack of maintenance on this bridge is some one else’s legacy,” he said. “But it could make it easier to push Brussels to accept more public investment.”

[…]For Salvini, who is also interior minister, it wasn’t just EU bureaucrats in the firing line. He’s also seeking to hold those directly involved to account.

“I want the names and family names of those responsible,” he told RAI. “In 2018 such a tragedy is unacceptable.”

    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/14/occupied-protests-in-bosnian-town-struggling-to-come-with-migrant-influx/

“Dozens of people have rallied in a small Bosnian town to protest an unprecedented influx of illegal migrants from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia, claiming authorities are trying to destroy the area.

The protesters gathered Monday in the central square of the town of Bihac, in the northwest of the country.

They are angry at authorities who they say intentionally sending migrants to the area without identifying and registering them or finding them suitable accommodation.

The town is already overwhelmed, with migrants living in tents and abandoned buildings, and buses full of new arrivals are still arriving.

The protesters reject claims that Bihac is simply a gathering place chosen by migrants as it is close to to the border with Croatia, a member of the European Union.

Thousands of migrants staying in squalid camps in town and the surrounding area are relying on limited support from the local Red Cross and other international aid agencies.

Over 9,300 migrants have entered Bosnia so far this year, compared to 755 in 2017…”

  14. 100,000 Turkish Immigrants Could be Stripped of Austrian Dual Citizenship (breitbart, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/14/100000-turkish-immigrants-could-be-stripped-of-austrian-dual-citizenship/

“Up to 100,000 Austrians with dual Turkish citizenship could be stripped of their Austrian passports as courts in the country investigate violations of the country’s dual nationality laws.

The Turks, who have become naturalised Austrian citizens, are accused of resuming citizenship in Turkey in order to vote in Turkish elections by the anti-mass migration Freedom Party (FPÖ).

In Austria, it is illegal for citizens to hold another foreign citizenship with another other nation without express permission — which is rare. A list of 100,000 individuals it is claimed have broken the country’s dual citizen laws and should have their Austrian citizenship revoked has now been circulated, Sveriges Radio reports.

“These people should not, after being Austrian citizens, have taken back Turkish citizenship without permission,” said the director of the Vienna City Administration Department Werner Sedlak, who deals with many cases as so many Turkish origin individuals live in the Austrian capital.

Since coming into government the Interior Ministry, under the leadership of FPÖ member Herbert Kickl, has distributed the 100,000 person list first introduced in 2017 to various local governments to investigate. Sor far, 70 Turkish citizens have been notified of their Austrian citizenship being revoked in line with long-standing Austrian law.

Several of the dual nationals have filed court cases related to the notifications.

With Vienna alone having 18,000 cases to investigate, the decisions on whether or not to revoke citizenship are not expected to be resolved quickly.

The cases follow several other measures directed toward the Turkish diaspora in Austria who overwhelmingly voted for Islamist Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan earlier this year and have been at the centre of a debate on assimilation.

Following the attempted coup in Turkey in 2016, Turks took to the streets of Vienna causing then-Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz to proclaim that Turkish-background Austrians should be loyal to Austria or go home to Turkey.

A similar statement was made earlier this year by Vice Chancellor and leader of the FPÖ Heinz-Christian Strache following the Turkish national elections. Strache wrote a post on Facebook saying, “I recommend all the Turks in Austria who voted for Erdo?an should return to Turkey!””

  15. Open Borders NGOs Furious as Gibraltar Strips ‘Rescue’ Vessel of Licence (breitbart, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/14/gibraltar-strips-migrant-vessel-licence/

“SOS Méditerranée has reacted with anger to news the government of Gibraltar is to strip the Aquarius vessel it uses to ferry migrants to Europe of its registration.

The move comes after Italy demanded the UK take responsibility for 140 migrants picked up off the coast of Libya by the rescue ship, which was sailing under the British Overseas Territory’s flag.

Gibraltar Maritime Administration (GMA) issued the ‘notice of removal’, which will come into effect on August 20, after its Franco-German operators ignored orders issued in June and July to stop its search and rescue activities.

According to Sky News, the Aquarius was chartered by the mass migration-promoting NGOs SOS Méditerranée and Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders/MSF), as a ‘survey vessel’ — which was not authorised to carry out search and rescue operations.

SOS Méditerranée hit out at the decision as a “political manoeuvre” aimed at slowing the organisation’s transportation of migrants to Europe, blasting the government in Gibraltar for “pretending to care” about migrants aboard the Aquarius while carrying out a move that could “jeopardise a prompt sheltering of the survivors”.

Insisting there is no “technically founded” difference between survey and rescue vessels, in an angrily-worded statement the NGO claimed authorities were “abusively pretending” ships require clearance to conduct search and rescue operations when “the mere principle of rescue at sea is an overarching principle which falls upon all flags, all ships and on all seas.”

The group said: “While for the last two and half years, the Aquarius has conducted more than 200 search and rescue (SAR) operations, in complete transparency and regularly informing all competent authorities, the Gibraltar Maritime Authority is disguising a political manoeuvre behind an incoherent argument.”

Authorities in Italy and Malta have refused to allow the vessel to dock at its ports along with Tunisia, while the two NGOs operating the Aquarius insist the 141 migrants — the majority of whom are from Somalia and Eritrea — must be brought to Europe rather than dropped off in Libya.

“What is of utmost importance is that the survivors are brought to a place of safety without delay, where their basic needs can be met and where they can be protected from abuse,” said Nick Romaniuk, search and rescue coordinator for SOS Méditerranée.

The number of migrants ferried from Libya has fallen dramatically since Italians elected a populist government in March which has taken a tough approach to open borders-backing organisations accused of running a “taxi service” that encourages people trafficking.”

  16. Japanese Economist Uses Sweden as Example in Warning Against Mass Migration (breitbart, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/14/japanese-economist-uses-sweden-as-example-in-warning-against-mass-migration/

“A Japanese economist has warned that Japan should use caution following a loosening of regulations on foreign labourers claiming that the country should not open the gates to mass migration as Sweden has in the recent past.

Economist Takaaki Mitsuhashi commented on the new reforms, which aim to combat the rapidly ageing Japanese workforce, saying that while he welcomed foreigners into Japan, he did not want to see the country follow the path of Sweden, Finnish broadcaster Yleisradio Oy reports.

“Foreigners, mainly from Africa and the Middle East, have settled in districts that they have since completely taken over,” Mitsuhashi said and added that police refuse to enter certain areas.

While police are still present in so-called no-go areas, there have been multiple occasions where they, and other emergency services, have been attacked and have even delayed responding to emergency calls while waiting for backup to arrive, feeling unable to proceed in smaller numbers into the areas.

Mitsuhashi visited the no-go Stockholm suburb of Husby, where local businesses have experienced difficulty hiring security guards due to crime and violence, describing his impressions of the area saying, “whatever it was, it was not Sweden. We do not want this development in Japan.”

“Look at how it has been for Sweden, so you get a good picture of how it becomes when you open the country for immigration. Sweden and Japan have about the same basic conditions, high gross domestic product and free, democratic societies,” he added.

Another issue facing Sweden but not mentioned by Mitsuhashi is the much higher rate of unemployment among Swedish residents from foreign backgrounds compared to the native population.

A report last year showed that the unemployment rate for native Swedes was around 3.9 percent, while the foreign-born unemployment rate topped 21.8 percent.

A study released last year by the Swedish Expert Group on Public Finance (ESO) also showed that migrant children arriving in the country after age seven were also performing so poorly in schools that half were unable to pass grade nine.”

  17. 9 Islamist Radicals Seeking to Reach Italy by Boat Detained in Tunisia – Salvini (sputniknews, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201808141067183033-salvini-islamists-detained-tunisia/

“Tunisian authorities have detained nine Islamist extremists who were plotting to reach Italy by crossing the Mediterranean on a rubber boat, Italian Interior Minister Matteo Salvini said Tuesday.

“Tunisian authorities have stopped nine Islamist extremists who were planning to reach Italy on a rubber boat. In response to those who say that ‘Terrorists do not arrive on boats,’” Salvini wrote on Twitter.

He added that it was the state’s duty to control and protect its borders.

According to the AGI news agency, those detained were part of a 15-strong group, which was detained in the north of the country by the Tunisian coast guard and a counterterrorism unit. Nine of them, who are from 21 to 39 years old, were sent to police for questioning.

Europe has been facing a large influx of migrants fleeing armed conflicts and economic crises in Africa and the Middle East since 2015. Italy is one of the main entry points for migrants arriving in Europe. The new Italian government has taken a tough stance on migration, closing its ports to boats that rescue undocumented migrants traveling from Africa to Europe by sea.”

  18. Indonesia woman irked by mosque noise on trial for blasphemy (abcnews, Aug 14, 2018)
    https://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/indonesia-woman-irked-mosque-noise-trial-blasphemy-57163122

“Indonesian prosecutors have demanded an 18-month prison term for a woman who was charged with blasphemy after she complained about the volume of a mosque’s loudspeakers.

The ethnic Chinese defendant, Meiliana, 44, was arrested on May 18, about two years after her case triggered a riot in Tanjung Balai, a port town in North Sumatra province.

A spokesman at the local prosecutor’s office, Sumanggar Siagian, said Tuesday the sentencing demand for Meiliana was made at the District Court in Medan, the province’s capital, on Monday.

Prosecutors said the defendant had violated Indonesia’s criminal code by committing blasphemy against Islam, the dominant faith in Indonesia.

Mobs burned and ransacked at least 14 Buddhist temples throughout Tanjung Balai in a July 2016 riot after reports of Meiliana’s complaint emerged.

Police arrested more than a dozen suspects but only two were charged with being instigators of the violence.

Meiliana’s lawyer, Rantau Sibarani, said there was no clear evidence she had committed blasphemy.

“This case seems to be very forced,” Sibarani said. “This is only to fulfill the will of the people.”

Indonesia is the world’s most populous Muslim nation. Its constitution guarantees freedom of speech and religion but in recent years blasphemy cases have been filed against those perceived as offending Islam, and the overwhelming majority end with guilty verdicts.

Presiding Judge Wahyu Prasetyo Wibowo said the trial will resume Thursday with the defendant’s lawyers making their final arguments.”

    • Ohh they missed one did they? Indonesians (once Bali aside) were the only Asians who cooperated wholesale with the Japanese in WW2 and if a POW escaped and was caught they often killed him before the Japanese did. They have never been afraid to show their hatred of infidels. In the ?late 1960s they decided to kill off the Chinese middle class, mostly Christian, as they called them all “communists” of the PKI (some actually were) and the west sat back and did nothing(as they did with the Christian Biafrans) and happily believed the lie. Currently in Malaysia all Chinese with money already have dual citizenship and are ready for the coming purges as their success rubs into muslim pride.

  22. In a speech that Beijing tried to stop, Hong Kong independence advocate lashes out

A pro-independence Hong Kong politician whose party is under threat of a ban lashed out at China in a closely watched Tuesday speech, drawing immediate criticism from local authorities.

Andy Chan Ho-tin, a member of the Hong Kong National Party, has been at the center of controversy over free speech and Hong Kong’s autonomy. The Foreign Correspondents’ Club of Hong Kong, which invited him, came under pressure itself from the central government in Beijing as well as local authorities to cancel the event.

Dozens of protesters gathered outside the club in central Hong Kong amid heavy police presence as what appeared to be mostly anti-independence demonstrators held up signs and shouted slogans.

Hong Kong enjoys rights not allowed in mainland China, such as the freedom to criticize political leaders, but the central government and local authorities has drawn a red line at calls for independence and has pressured local leaders to back that up.

  23. From laboratory in far west, China’s surveillance state spreads quietly

BEIJING (Reuters) – Filip Liu, a 31-year-old software developer from Beijing, was traveling in the far western Chinese region of Xinjiang when he was pulled to one side by police as he got off a bus.

The officers took Liu’s iPhone, hooked it up to a handheld device that looked like a laptop and told him they were “checking his phone for illegal information”.

Liu’s experience in Urumqi, the Xinjiang capital, is not uncommon in a region that has been wracked by separatist violence and a crackdown by security forces.

But such surveillance technologies, tested out in the laboratory of Xinjiang, are now quietly spreading across China.

  24. China denies claims a million Muslim Uighurs held in internment camps

The country is responding to concerns raised by a UN committee about a crackdown and strict controls in Xinjiang region.

China has rejected claims one million of its mostly Muslim Uighur minority are being held in internment camps, while it has also insisted “there are no such things” as re-education centres.

The country responded to concerns, raised by a member of a UN human rights committee, that its Xinjiang region has been turned into “something resembling a massive internment camp, shrouded in secrecy, a sort of no-rights zone”.

Human rights expert Gay McDougall, a member of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, last week highlighted reports that more than one million ethnic Uighurs and other Turkic Muslim minorities are being held in counter-extremism centres.

Another two million “have been forced” into re-education camps for “political and cultural indoctrination”, Ms McDougall had claimed, as she cited the work of rights groups.

However, a Chinese official hit back at the allegations in an appearance before the committee on Monday, insisting all Xinjiang citizens, including Uighurs, “enjoy equal freedom and rights”.

  25. China Detains VOA Mandarin Correspondent

Voice of America’s Mandarin Service correspondent and a multimedia journalist working for VOA were detained Monday evening by Chinese police while attempting to interview a retired Chinese professor who was taken away by authorities during a live television interview with VOA nearly two weeks ago.

Correspondent Yibing Feng and VOA contractor Allen Ai were taken into custody in Jinan, Shandong province after talking to professor Sun Wenguang, 84, through a closed door of his apartment. Sun told Feng details of his detention and thanked VOA for allowing him to express his freedom of speech on the air.

Authorities in the apartment hallway attempted several times to disrupt the interview and ordered Feng and his Chinese assistant to leave the building. The two reporters were then held by police at the building exit. They are still believed to be in police custody.

  26. Mexican Radio to Beam Chinese Propaganda
U.S. probes links between buyer of Tijuana station and China’s Phoenix TV

A large Spanish-language radio station in Mexico will soon begin broadcasting in Chinese in a deal critics say will bring Beijing propaganda to Chinese Americans throughout Southern California.

A Federal Communications Commission filing on the sale of radio station XEWW AM 690 radio near Tijuana reveals the buyer has ties to Phoenix Satellite Television US, a subsidiary of Hong Kong’s pro-Beijing Phoenix TV.

According to government sources, signs that Phoenix is involved in the purchase of the radio station prompted the Trump administration last week to begin an investigation into the national security implications of the sale.

Phoenix TV has been identified by U.S. intelligence agencies as a major overseas outlet used to spread propaganda and promote the policies of the communist government in Beijing. The Hong Kong television station also has close ties to China’s intelligence service and military.

  33. U.S. warns on Russia’s new space weapons

GENEVA (Reuters) – The United States voiced deep suspicion on Tuesday over Russia’s pursuit of new space weapons, including a mobile laser system to destroy satellites in space, and the launch of a new inspector satellite which was acting in an “abnormal” way.

Russia’s pursuit of counterspace capabilities was “disturbing”, Yleem D.S. Poblete, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Arms Control, Verification and Compliance, told the U.N.’s Conference on Disarmament which is discussing a new treaty to prevent an arms race in outer space.

A Russian delegate at the conference dismissed Poblete’s remarks as unfounded and slanderous.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, at the Geneva forum in February, said a priority was to prevent an arms race in outer space, in line with Russia’s joint draft treaty with China presented a decade ago.

But Russian President Vladimir Putin unveiled in March “six new major offensive weapons systems”, including the Peresvet military mobile laser system, Poblete said.

“To the United States this is yet further proof that the Russian actions do not match their words,” she said.

Referring to a “space apparatus inspector”, whose deployment was announced by the Russian defence ministry last October, Poblete said: “The only certainty we have is that this system has been ‘placed in orbit’.”

  34. Wait till you hear the Left’s new euphemism for ‘Antifa’
By Howard Portnoy August 14, 2018

It doesn’t rise quite to the level of justice-involved youth (the Obama administration’s kinder and gentler replacement for “juvenile delinquent”) or even man-caused disasters (its “no-fault” alternative to “acts of terrorism”). But the Left’s new preferred name for the ragtag band of cowardly radicals who call themselves Antifa would still raise a smile if the whole business weren’t so insidious.

As has been stated elsewhere, this publication holds no brief for white supremacists. To the degree that the “Unite the Right” rally in Washington on Sunday was intended to be a replay of the tragedy that unfolded last year in Charlottesville, in which one woman was killed, we hold its organizers accountable for any injury to people or property that might have occurred.

  35. Soros-funded nonprofit asks public for info on who Brett Kavanaugh went to Nationals games with
    By J.E. Dyer August 13, 2018

Well, this isn’t creepy and Stalinist or anything.

Obligatory point: imagine the heads exploding if a right-wing group were trying something like this to target a Democratic president’s nominee.

The progressive-left nonprofit ProPublica, funded by George Soros among others, has put out a call to the public for information about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s attendance at Washington Nationals baseball games.

ProPublica’s Ariana Tobin and Justin Elliott apparently find it deeply suspicious that Kavanaugh attended games with friends, and bought blocks of tickets for which the friends reimbursed him.
