The Boston Globe has been contacting newspaper editorial boards and proposing a “coordinated response” to President Trump’s escalating “enemy of the people” rhetoric.
“We propose to publish an editorial on August 16 on the dangers of the administration’s assault on the press and ask others to commit to publishing their own editorials on the same date,” The Globe said in its pitch to fellow papers.

Iran unveils next generation missile: media

Iran’s defence minister unveiled the next generation of Tehran’s Fateh Mobin short-range ballistic missile on Monday, according to conservative news agency Tasnim.
“As promised to our dear people, we will not spare any effort to increase the missile capabilities of the country and we will certainly increase our missile power every day,” the minister, Brigadier General Amir Hatami, said.

On Sunday, James Mattis explained why he reversed course after initially urging lawmakers to oppose the idea last year.

Iran’s Khamenei rejects Trump offer of talks, chides government over economy
ANKARA (Reuters) – Iran’s Supreme Leader on Monday rejected U.S. President Donald Trump’s offer of unconditional talks to improve bilateral ties and he also accused the Iranian government of economic mismanagement in the face of reimposed U.S. sanctions.
Washington reimposed the sanctions last week after pulling out of a 2015 international deal aimed at curbing Iran’s nuclear program in return for an easing of economic sanctions. Trump has also threatened to penalize companies that continue to operate in Iran.
“I ban holding any talks with America… America never remains loyal to its promises in talks,” said Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who has the final say on policy in the Islamic Republic.
“America’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal is a clear proof that America cannot be trusted,” state TV quoted Khamenei as telling a gathering attended by thousands of Iranians.
The sanctions target Iran’s trade in gold and other precious metals, its purchases of U.S. dollars and its car industry.
Washington had said Iran’s only chance of avoiding the sanctions would be to accept Trump’s offer to negotiate for a tougher nuclear deal. Iranian officials already rejected the offer but it is the first time Khamenei has publicly commented.

China rejects allegations of detaining million Uighurs in camps in Xinjiang
GENEVA (Reuters) – China rejected on Monday allegations raised by a U.N. panel that 1 million Uighurs may be held in internment camps in the restive Xinjiang region, but said that some people underwent re-education after being deceived by extremists.
Hu Lianhe, deputy director general of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee, said that authorities in the far western Xinjiang region protected the full rights of all citizens equally.
China says that Xinjiang faces a serious threat from Islamist militants and separatists who plot attacks and stir up tensions between the mostly Muslim Uighur minority who call the region home and the ethnic Han Chinese majority.
“The argument that 1 million are detained in re-education centers is completely untrue,” Hu told the U.N. Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on the second day of its regular review of China’s record.

Yesterday we informed you that Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez is now in the endorsing business. In particular, the Democratic Socialist is bullish on Ilhan Omar, a Somali immigrant running for a seat in Congress. Ocasio-Cortez calls her a “modern day hero.”
Apparently Omar isn’t so modern that she’s above tying the knot with a man reported to be a blood relative (which, nota bene, is illegal in the state of Minnesota).
Not to mention, Omar has not yet officially dissolved her marriage to “brother” Ahmed Nur Said Elmi but in the meantime married another man, which also makes her a bigamist.
The reason for the marriage to Elmi apparently is also believed to be to gain Elmi entry into the United States, which may amount to crime number 3.

“A Muslim teacher who labelled homosexuals “animals” who should be “eradicated” has lost a claim of unfair dismissal, where he argued he was discriminated against because he is Muslim.
Razwan Faraz, 38, the former deputy headteacher at Nansen Primary School was one of five teachers suspended amid accusations of exercising undue of religious influence at three Birmingham academies.
The teachers were part of the so-called “Trojan-Horse” scandal where radical Muslim allegedly plotted to take control of schools funded by the taxpayer, with aspirations including banning sex education and Christian songs.
The schools were also accused of segregating pupils according to sex, banning the teaching of music and drama, and introducing lessons in Arabic.
Despite the claims, Mr Faraz claimed his dismissal was a result of religious discrimination. Faraz lost his job in 2015 over comments made in a Whatsapp group called “Park View Brotherhood” describing gay people as “animals”.
According to The Times, Mr Faraz insisted he has now changed his views about homosexuality and argued that the comments were an expression of his Muslim faith.
But a disciplinary panel rejected his defence, with his comments described as “demonstrably homophobic”.
A tribunal panel found that his comments “were a significant factor in causing the school to be brought into disrepute”. A judgment also described him as “evasive” and “not a credible witness”.
Despite this, Mr Faraz and five other suspended teachers have been allowed to return to the classroom after an independent disciplinary panel discontinued cases against them claiming government lawyers did not share crucial evidence.
The National College for Teaching and Leadership panel decided they had no option but to stop the hearings for the school leaders accused of allowing undue Islamist influence in state schools.
The first of the two comments Mr Faraz was sacked for was sent in May 2013, along with a link to a newspaper article about gay marriage.
“These animals are going out full force. As teachers we must be aware and counter their satanic ways of influencing young people”, he wrote.
In a separate conversation in September 2013, discussing an article about a shrine in Pakistan being used as a meeting place for gay men, he said: “May Allah further expose this and give us the strength to deal and eradicate it.””
“Faraz lost his job in 2015 over comments made in a Whatsapp group called “Park View Brotherhood” describing gay people as “animals”.”

A former Bernie Sanders staffer opened fire on a group of Republican congressmen practicing baseball, seriously wounding House Majority Whip Steve Scalise.
Sunday afternoon, on the one year anniversary of the Charlottesville riots, progressives, anarchists, black bloc thugs gathered together as so-called “Antifa” again to counter-protest a gathering of white supremacists in Washington, D.C. The “Obama Center” promised not to cut down any trees in the park until all permits were awarded and all lawsuits were settled. But trees are already being destroyed quite despite Obama’s promises.

Obama Center Breaks Pledge Not to Remove Trees in Jackson Park
The Obama Presidential Center has already started destroying dozens of age-old trees in Chicago’s Jackson Park, despite a pledge not to start removing trees until all legal paths are cleared.
The City of Chicago, the park district, and the Obama Center agreed to wait until a handful of lawsuits have developed before beginning preparations for construction, but the Chicago Sun-Times reports that the Obama Center’s promise has essentially been broken because the Chicago Park District has already begun destroying baseball diamonds and tearing out trees as part of the work associated with the Obama complex construction.
In January, the Obama Center promised that until the foundation had all permits secured and all lawsuits were satisfied, “there will be no trees removed or cut down.” But now, the Center claims that only the 19.3 acres upon which the center will sit is included in that promise, and the trees destroyed by the Park District are not on that acreage.
