  1. Danish Parties Consider Jailing Burqa Wearers as Tycoon Pledges to Pay Fines (sputniknews, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201808101067090012-denmark-burqa-jail/

“Two of Denmark’s ruling parties are considering upping the punishment for transgressors of the recent burqa ban from DKK 1,000 ($155) to a prison sentence, as it risks being rendered ineffective by a French-Algerian mogul previously dubbed the “Zorro of Niqab.”

The Liberals and the Danish People’s Party (DF), currently members of Denmark’s ruling coalition, argue that the pledge by Rachid Nekkaz to pay all fines accrued under the contentious “Burqa Law” is undermining Danish law, Danish Radio reported.

According to DF’s immigration and integration rapporteur, Martin Henriksen, the government should consider introducing prison terms in the legislation.

“If he pays the fines, we think it should be regarded as income, so that the women for whom he pays the fines shall be taxed,” Henriksen argued. “Also, we think this is a reason why the government should consider imposing prison terms. You may pay fines for others, but you cannot serve terms for others,” Martin Henriksen stressed.

Previously, the DF argued for the “Burqa Law” to include up to 7 days’ imprisonment. By contrast, repeat offences would be punished by up to 14 days in prison, if the Danish People’s Party had its way.

Liberal foreign affairs and integration rapporteur Marcus Knuth argued that “mild” jail sentences for repeat violations may indeed be considered.

“We shouldn’t start it right now, though. Let’s first see if he actually pays the fines, and if the Ministry of Justice can somehow stop him,” Knuth said…”

  2. ‘I’ll Raid You, White Trash’: Australians Told to Lock Doors as Africans Rampage in Melbourne (breitbart, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/10/melbourne-residents-lock-doors-africans/

“Police in Melbourne have been slammed for making no arrests after residents of the city’s north-west suburbs were terrorised by gangs of African youths who bragged “police can’t touch us” and branded frightened families “racist”.

Despite its sending dozens of armed officers in riot gear to Taylors Hill as more than 100 teenagers gathered “for war”, and telling residents to “stay inside and lock their doors” as rival gangs ran amok, police claimed there had been “no threat to community safety”.

According to The Age, there was a heavy police presence at the scene for several hours, including cavalry officers and a helicopter, with traffic diverted away from the area as gangs hurled rocks at authorities and law enforcement vehicles, smashing the window of a patrol car.

Local media heard police had said the youths had gathered “for war” as they told people to stay inside their homes, with one resident telling reporters: “They told me to stay inside, lock the doors and yeah, it’s scary, I’ve got a nine-year-old and an 11-year-old and they’re scared.”

Another Taylors Hill local described youths threatening his family, asking “what are you looking at, you white trash” before warning him not to be shocked if they decided to “raid” his home, and he added that the group seemed completely unafraid of police in the area.

A recurring theme in locals’ testimony was the desire to feel safe in their own homes amidst rising African violence in Melbourne. “I thought this isn’t right. I should be able to come out here and feel safe,” said one resident, who told 9NEWS she was branded a “racist” by female troublemakers on her property she tried to confront during the chaos.

“They were everywhere, I don’t know if I’m over exaggerating but it looked like hundreds,” resident Maree Delaney said, recalling she was “scared they were going to start smashing cars, breaking doors down, everything.

“Other than a security door, there is nothing we can do. We don’t want to build brick walls, we’re Australians, we don’t want to live like that,” she said, adding: “You just think, how am I going to defend myself?”.

A couple with a number of small children at home, who bought the land and built the house in 2007, said the once peaceful area had seen increasing trouble in the past two years.

“We’ve been here nine years and this is the worst yet… You build a nice house in a nice area… you don’t want to start seeing things like that, where is it coming from?” the husband said.

Speaking to The Age through a window in his glass front door, he said safety concerns have spurred the family to consider moving elsewhere.

“That’s the reason we have roller shutters now. I’m not opening the door. I was told by police to get inside before,” he said.

Residents are so desperate that people have begun stockpiling weapons with which they could defend their families from similar incidents in the future, 9NEWS heard from one man, who said “What do we do? Bolt all our doors?” as he predicted: “One day somebody’s going to get hurt and it’s not going to be good.”

Speaking to ABC Melbourne, Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton said the youths were ‘north south’ rivals who had gathered for a brawl over girlfriends, which had been arranged in a Facebook post.

‘It was kids from our Australian Sudanese [community] coming from the southern suburbs to meet up with kids from the northern suburbs to have a bit of clash there… about girlfriends or something like that,’ he said.

“They are groups of kids coming together. You can call them gangs … But if you think of them as gangs it’s not the way we tend to respond to them as they don’t have the traditional thing that we think groups have,” said Ashton, adding: “These are groups that use social media.”

Federal Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton, who has previously highlighted problems with African gang violence in Melbourne, blasted Victoria’s left-wing authorities for downplaying the issue.

“In 2018, having people riot like this, as you say, like a scene from some other part of the world is unacceptable,” he told Sydney radio station 2GB, noting [Victorian premier] Daniel Andrews “won’t even accept that there’s a problem, that these gangs exist”.

“He needs to, I think, come out and start sorting this out because at the moment people are getting hurt and somebody’s going to be killed.””

      • What is the difference between Aussie cops and their leaders and those in many US cities? Even with a decent national leader many US cities are sewers still. Australia has the choice of a globalist rich boy pretending to be a conservative and a socialist rich boy as leaders as the many dissenting parties splinter further(as devised by the left) and both of these major parties ignore the seething, simmering anger of the majority. It will hit the fan eventually, guns or no. Most Australians have no time for the Sudanese or the Somalis and not because of their colour but their behaviour.

  4. Turkey to trigger EUROPEAN financial crisis as Lira hits TERRIFYING LOW, ECB gives warning (express, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1001640/turkey-lira-euro-dollar-russia-rouble-Erdogan-donald-trump-EU

“TURKEY has hit a fresh financial crisis which could cause a chaos across the eurozone after the lira plummeted to a record low.

One US dollar bought 5.57 lira during evening trading yesterday with the troubled currency plummeting five percent in one day.

Investors questioned the ability of newly elected President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s to prevent the nation’s deepening financial turmoil spiralling further out of control.

The slump of the lira, which has lost a dangerous 30 percent of its value since the start of 2018, has triggered the presentation of a new economic plan by the country’s finance minister and son-in-law of President Erdogan, Berat Albayrak.

Though the nation has failed to address issues behind the currency’s fall in the past with president Erdogan refusing austerity measures, resulting in volatility seeping out of the nation and into the wider economy.

The slump comes after threats by the country to retaliate after US President Donald Trump slapped sanctions on Turkey for continuing to trade with Iran and for the detention of American pastor Andrew Brunson, who has been held on terror charges.

The European Central Bank warned sanctions constituted a “serious risk to the outlook for global trade and activity” and has shared concerned over the impact of the weak lira on European banks.

The euro also fell 0.5 percent to trade at $1.14 in the early hours of this morning.

This followed a report that Spain’s BBVA, Italy’s UniCredit, and France’s BNP Paribas banks could be particularly impacted by the ongoing depreciation of the lira.

Director-general of the World Trade Organisation Roberto Azevedo warned global trade was “under treat” and that the outlook was “extremely serious”.

He added: “Whether or not you call the current situation a trade war, certainly the first shots have been fired.”

The devaluation of the lira ha also seen an eye-watering €18million loss by Europe’s leading travel firm Tui, formerly Thomson.

With trade sanctions becoming the political weapon of choice, Russia followed Turkey’s lead last night after the rouble also dropped four percent against the US dollar.

President Erdogan has previously declared himself an “enemy of interest rates” and moved to take exclusive control over appointments to the central bank after winning incensed constitutional powers when re-elected…”

“PRESIDENT Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian leader Vladimir Putin have held urgent talks amid the deepening economic crisis engulfing Turkey.

The two leaders spoke by phone earlier today to discuss economic ties amid the deepening crisis.

A Kremlin source said they talked about projects such as energy, just hours after Donald Trump weighed in on the economic crisis by declaring more Turkish sanctions via Twitter.

Donald Trump tweeted: “I have just authorised a doubling of Tariffs on Steel and Aluminum with respect to Turkey as their currency, the Turkish Lira, slides rapidly downward against our very strong Dollar! Aluminium will now be 20 percent and Steel 50 percent. Our relations with Turkey are not good at this time!”

Shares of Turkish steelmakers Kardemir and Erdemir plunged as much as eight percent and 9.9 percent respectively after Trump’s tweet.

Turkish lira fell to an all-time low against the dollar this afternoon, but the country’s leader has brushed aside concerns, telling Turks “we have our God.”

The Turkish President Recep Erdogan urged Turks to sell dollars and gold and buy lira.

Putin and Erdogan told each other on the phone said they were pleased with the positive direction in their economic trade ties.

They also said they were content with the two nations’ cooperation in the energy and defence industry sectors.

Putin and Erdogan also discussed the latest developments in Syria.

  6. CANADA SHOOTING: Multiple fatalities in Fredericton attack – Police urge ‘STAY INSIDE’ (express, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://www.express.co.uk/news/world/1001725/canada-shooting-Fredericton-attack-latest-terror-fears

“AT least four people have been killed in a shooting in the eastern Canadian city of Fredericton, with police urging members of the public to avoid the area and stay in their homes.

Fredericton Police tweeted: “An incident has resulted in at least four people killed. More information will be available when we can confirm.

A second tweet shortly afterwards added: “Due to the volume of calls, please refrain from calling the police station directly, and in case of emergency continue to call 9-1-1.”

Police described it as an “active situation, urging people to “stay in their homes with doors locked at this time for their safety” and to stay away from the area of Brookside Drive between Main and Ring Road in the city, which is the capital of the New Brunswick region.

A journalist earlier reported that four shots had been heard at around 8.20am local time (12.20pm GMT).

    (More to follow)”

    • Four people, including two police officers, were shot to death in an apartment complex in the eastern Canadian city of Fredericton on Friday, and a suspect was taken into custody, authorities said. It was a rare instance of gun violence in the Canadian province of New Brunswick.

Fredericton police said they are not releasing the names of the slain officers yet.

Justin Mclean, who lives in the complex, said he tried to help.

“I just woke up and heard gunshots and I looked outside my window. There was basically three dead people laying there. It wasn’t a pretty sight,” Mclean told the Canadian Broadcasting Corp.

“The cops were trying to put one of the officers into the vehicle so they could take him out to safety.”

He said there had been fights in the apartment complex, but never anything like this.

David MacCoubrey, who also lives in the complex, said he heard about 20 shots and hid on his kitchen floor

“I’m on my floor,” he said in a phone interview. “The cops have come through my place. They have searched all the apartments in the building. It sounded like it started in the courtyard area.”

He awoke in his apartment on Brookside Drive around 7 a.m. local time to the sound of three gunshots 33 feet (10 meters) from his bed.

MacCoubrey said his apartment complex has four buildings in a square, and it sounded like the shots were coming from the middle of the complex.

He said police have been searching the buildings, and he’s been sitting away from windows.

“It’s not something that happens here regularly,” he said.

Travis Hrubeniuk, who lives nearby, said his fiancee had just left for work around 7:45 when he began hearing a steady stream of sirens.

Hrubeniuk said residents have been advised to stay inside with their doors locked. The quiet residential neighborhood, which has houses, grocery stores, a church and an elementary school, is the last place Hrubeniuk said he expected to encounter a dangerous situation.

“This is the first time I’ve even heard of any serious crime or violent crime in this city,” he said.

  7. Italian Soldiers Forced to Intervene as Migrants Brawl on Naples Streets (breitbart, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/10/italian-soldiers-forced-intervene-migrants-brawl-naples-streets/

“Italian soldiers were forced to intervene in three separate brawls over a period of only a few hours, including violence between migrants in which one soldier was attacked.

The three bouts of violence took place in Naples’ Vasto district during the middle of the night as acts of violence have become more and more common in the area, Il Giornale reports.

As part of Operation Strade Sicure, or “secure streets”, several military personnel were also on hand in the area and were forced to intervene in two of the brawls.

The first, between Italian nationals, ended quickly after the soldiers got involved in the dispute with police officers coming in shortly after to handcuff and arrest the suspects involved.

The second fight which the soldiers became involved with was between two migrants and occurred just as police were attempting to identify the men in the previous brawl.

This time the soldiers attempted to separate the two parties but one of the migrants, both originating from a country outside the European Union, punched one of the soldiers in the face during the scuffle. Both migrant men involved in the fight were then arrested by police.

The brawls are just the latest acts of violence to plague the Vasto district. Last weekend saw several acts of violence following an “anti-racism” demonstration on Friday in which local residents refused to participate, closing their windows and doors to the marchers. The reaction was seen as having heightened the tension among the migrants.

Migrant violence has plagued Italy for several years including brawling between migrants and Italians, as was the case in the Sardinian city of Sassari last October in which ten Italians were attacked by as many as 30 asylum seekers in what was described as a revenge attack.

Migrant criminal gang wars have also spilt out onto the streets of Italy. For three straight days, Nigerian migrants in the town of Ferrara engaged in various attacks on each other involving knives and other weapons earlier this month.”

Oslo (AFP) – Norway, which has one of the highest deadly drug overdose rates in Europe, will test prescribing free heroin to the most serious addicts to improve their living conditions, the government said on Friday.

The Norwegian Directorate for Health and Social Affairs has been tasked with proposing an experimental project to identify patients likely to benefit from the programme, to examine the implementation method, and to calculate the costs.

“We hope that this will provide a solution that will give… a better quality of life to some addicts who are today out of our reach and whom current programmes do not help enough,” Health Minister Bente Hoie wrote on Facebook.

Norway has one of the highest overdose mortality rates in Europe, with 81 deaths per million in 2015 after Estonia (132 deaths per million) and Sweden (88 deaths per million), according to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction.

Four billion. That, according to a new study shared with CNBC by market research firm SimilarWeb, is how many monthly page visits Facebook has shed in a slow-drip but nevertheless huge decline over the last two years.

Facebook’s traffic hasn’t just fallen by about half since 2016, according to the study. Among the consequences of such a precipitous drop is the opening it’s given to YouTube, which the study’s data shows is about to overtake Facebook to become the second biggest site, traffic-wise, in the U.S. Which would give Google ownership of the top two spots, pushing Facebook down to number three.

  12. Russia tells Washington curbs on its banks would be act of economic war

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Russia warned the United States on Friday it would regard any U.S. move to curb the activities of its banks as a declaration of economic war which it would retaliate against, stepping up a war of words with Washington over spiralling sanctions.

The warning, from Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, reflects Russian fears over the impact of new restrictions on its economy and assets, including the rouble which has lost nearly six percent of its value this week on sanctions jitters.

Economists expect the economy to grow by 1.8 percent this year. But if new sanctions proposed by Congress and the State Department are implemented in full, something that remains uncertain, some economists fear growth would be almost cut to zero in future.

In a sign of how seriously Russia is taking the threat, President Vladimir Putin discussed what the Kremlin called “possible new unfriendly steps by Washington” with his Security Council on Friday.

Moscow’s strategy of trying to improve battered U.S.-Russia ties by attempting to build bridges with President Donald Trump is backfiring after U.S. lawmakers launched a new sanctions drive last week because they fear Trump is too soft on Russia.

  13. The arc of history bends toward insanity
By Jerome Woehrle August 9, 2018

The arc of history is long, and it sometimes bends toward insanity. A society can go backwards as well as forwards. Russia and Germany were worse places in the 1930s and 1940s than they were in 1910, as illustrated by the Holocaust and the Holodomor. The Holodomor was Russian Communist dictator Joseph Stalin’s genocide: A man-made famine in the Ukraine in 1932-33, which caused millions of ethnic Ukrainians to starve even as officials confiscated their grain.

America as a whole has never been more prosperous (although this is not true of all regions within the U.S.). But America’s political and legal system has deteriorated for decades. The budget deficit is rising due to self-indulgent spending increases and excessive tax cuts. And civil liberties, and basic civility, have taken a beating.

Protections for private property have waned. The Magna Carta recognized back in the 13th century that property rights extend beyond land, by specifically protecting people’s personal property, such as their “corn.” But federal judges have often ruled that the Constitution’s Takings Clause affords less protection to personal than to real property, even though the text of the Takings Clause doesn’t distinguish between personal property and real property. It says that “private property [shall not be] taken for public use, without just compensation.” Indeed, one of the principal purposes of the Takings Clause was to curb armies from taking private property to supply soldiers during wars. Personal property, such as food and clothing, were the primary targets of such seizures.

Mueller team files complaint against Manafort trial judge over latest reprimand

After days of being dressed down by the judge overseeing the Paul Manafort case, federal prosecutors sought Thursday to put their foot down — filing a motion complaining that Judge T.S. Ellis III had unfairly admonished them in front of the jury.

Ellis has memorably and repeatedly criticized Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team during the trial for the former Trump campaign chairman. On Wednesday, Ellis ripped into prosecutors for letting a witness, IRS Agent Michael Welsh, sit in the courtroom before his testimony.

But in a five-page motion filed Thursday, Mueller deputy Andrew Weissmann and other attorneys on the team claimed Ellis had actually granted permission earlier in the trial for the witness to remain in the room during proceedings.

“The court’s reprimand of government counsel suggested to the jury—incorrectly—that the government had acted improperly and in contravention of court rules,” the prosecutors wrote. “This prejudice should be cured.”

Ellis responded by expressing regret in court Thursday.

By Daily Caller News Foundation August 9, 2018

Twitter is planning to accelerate changes to the company’s speech policies after a backlash from its own employees who want the company to ban right-wing conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, responding to a critical tweet from a Twitter engineer, said Wednesday he is “not happy” with Twitter’s current policies, which he said need to “evolve.”

Twitter vice president Del Harvey also sent a company-wide email Wednesday pledging to accelerate Twitter’s efforts to crack down on “dehumanizing hate speech,” in the wake of internal “conversations” about Jones.

Harvey noted that Twitter also plans to evaluate whether the company needs to better police “off-platform behavior.”

Despite its sending dozens of armed officers in riot gear to Taylors Hill as more than 100 teenagers gathered “for war”, and telling residents to “stay inside and lock their doors” as rival gangs ran amok, police claimed there had been “no threat to community safety”.

A new report alleges that there are scores of registered voters who are over 116 years old in Ohio’s 12th Congressional District, where Republican Troy Balderson is currently hanging onto a narrow lead over Democrat Danny O’Connor in Tuesday’s special election.

Eric Eggers, the research director at the Government Accountability Institute (GAI), reports that GAI accessed voter rolls in Ohio’s 12th Congressional District last August and found “170 registered voters listed as being over 116 years old [that] still existed on the [voter] rolls.”

  19. CBC – Little support for Canada in Saudi dispute surprises experts

The lack of support for Canada in the dispute with Saudi Arabia has surprised experts and diplomats alike.

Arab states have rushed to defend the Middle Eastern kingdom, while Canada has largely had to stand alone, something we may have to get used to according to analysts.

      Impudent fools.

    • Chris Chappell is absolutely right about Taiwan. As a lifelong student of Asian culture, visiting Formosa was one of the most memorable experiences of my entire life. And, yes, the food could be insanely good.

In Taoyuan, there was a tiny little family restaurant named, “Happy Mouth”. No false advertising there, as even their Chung Yao Bing (scallion pancakes) whipped the everliving snot out of a much closer establishment that made their living on selling thousands per day of this same breadstuff.

The tangerine pork, pea and shrimp omelets, and other dishes at Happy Mouth were equally memorable. Before leaving, I brought them some very special ingredients to sample.

In Taipei, there was Shu Hai Fu Long (The Dragon that Swims in Four Oceans) where gyoza-style dumplings were five or ten per dollar and you could waddle out stuffed to the gills for a ten-spot. Yust drag in a liter bottle of fine Taiwanese beer from the local Quicky-Mart and get down to business.

Then there was the, “Of Sea and Sky” buffet restaurant. While its Chinese food and Japanese sushi were mediocre at best, in the middle of the dining floor was a freely available (i.e, self-serve) tapper of chilled San Miguel lager which made up for a host of other noticeable shortcomings.

I suppose this isn’t the best time to go into any detail about the severe food poisoning I experienced after sampling some of the street offerings in Taoyuan.

  21. EU to Give Additional $6.8Mln to Bosnia to Tackle Migration – EU Commission (sputniknews, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://sputniknews.com/europe/201808101067108638-eu-bosnia-migration/

“The European Commission on Friday said it adopted a special measure worth six million euros ($6.8 million) to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in country’s efforts to manage migration flows.

“Today the European Commission adopted a special measure for an amount of €6 million to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in managing the migration flows,” the commission said in a press release.

The support is aimed at boosting the country’s capacity for identification and registration of migrants, as well as at strengthening Bosnia’s border control and surveillance.

“The EU funds will improve the capacity of Bosnia and Herzegovina for identification, registration and referral of third-country nationals crossing the border, provide accommodation and basic services for refugees, asylum seekers and migrants and strengthen the capacity for border control and surveillance, hence also contributing to the prevention of and fight against the trafficking of human beings,” the press release said.

According to the commission, the new support will supplement 1.5-million-euros assistance to Bosnia allocated by the commission in June. Since 2007, the commission has already provided 24.6 million euros for the European country, it added.

After the official closure of the so-called Western Balkans migration route (Greece-Macedonia-Serbia-Croatia) in 2016, refugees now travel to the EU countries through a new Balkan route, increasing pressure on the reception capacities of Bosnia, Albania, and Montenegro with thousands of asylum seekers registered in these countries in early 2018.”

  22. Hungary Discontinues Gender Studies Programs: ‘Ideology, Not Science’ (breitbart, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://www.breitbart.com/london/2018/08/10/hungary-discontinues-gender-studies-programs-ideology-not-science/

“The Hungarian government is discontinuing programs in gender studies at state-run universities after determining the programs serve no identifiable purpose and are based on “ideology rather than science.”

Bence Rétvári, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Human Resources (EMMI), said that university degrees must be rooted in a scientific basis, whereas gender studies, “like Marxist-Leninism,” are more aptly termed ideology than science, and are inappropriate matter for university-level education.

A spokesman for the Hungarian government told Breitbart News that there is no demand for gender studies graduates in the Hungarian job market.

“There is no economic rationale for studies such as these,” he said, and nor does the program “furnish students with skills that can be readily and directly converted on the labour market.”

Few university students will be affected by the decision, since only 11 applicants were admitted this year into the gender studies program at ELTE, which has a cap of 18 students, and two more at George Soros’s CEU.

The spokesman said that programs with such low student numbers are unsustainable and “take away valuable resources from other programs, deteriorating the economic stability of universities.”

“State universities operated from public funds must take these factors into consideration,” he said, “since the purpose of these institutions of higher education is to meet genuine social and labour market needs.”

The government decree only affects two universities in Hungary, the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest (ELTE) and the Central European University (CEU), the only two offering gender studies at the graduate level.

Officials have been eying gender studies with some suspicion for a while. In 2017, L?rinc Nacsa, the leader of the Christian Democrat (KDNP) youth wing, said that gender studies at ELTE are a wasteful luxury and counterproductive.

“We must raise awareness to the fact that these programs are doing nothing to lift up our nation. In fact, they are destroying the values-centred mode of thinking that is still present in the countries of Central Europe,” Mr. Nacsa wrote in a letter to the president of ELTE.”

  23. weasel zippers – Reuters Cleans Up The History Of Imam Whose Son Was Arrested At New Mexico Compound

One of the men at the compound who was arrested is Siraj Ibn Wahhaj the son of the controversial Brooklyn imam, Siraj Wahhaj, who was named an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He also testified as a character witness for Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, the notorious “blind sheikh” who was convicted in 1995 of plotting terror attacks in the U.S.

But in the Reuter’s story which is basically about the imam’s reaction to the situation, they never mention that critical fact about the imam. Nor do they mention that the police have called the compound group Muslim extremists.

In fact, they actually seem to be making an effort to build up the imam, as just the poor beleaguered father/grandfather in the situation.

Check out how they describe him:

  24. Italy’s Salvini asserts ‘natural family’ in move against same-sex parents

ROME (Reuters) – Italy’s right-wing Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini has ordered the wording on some official forms changed so that same-sex couples cannot both declare themselves as a child’s parents.

Salvini, interior minister and leader of the anti-immigrant League party, is now the Italy’s most favored politician, according to some surveys, and his socially conservative policies have proven popular among voters so far.

In an interview with a Catholic online newspaper Salvini said he had ordered the identity card application forms for children to be changed to refer to the “mother and father” instead of “parent 1” and “parent 2”.

“We will defend the natural family founded on the union between a man and a woman. I will exert all the power possible,” Salvini told La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana.

In Italy surrogate pregnancies are illegal and same-sex couples cannot adopt children.

However, some courts and city halls have granted parental status to the partner of a mother or father who had children by a previous relationship, even though the right is not enshrined in national law.

Salvini said the government would never contemplate surrogate pregnancies “or similar horrors”.

Support for the League, which governs with the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement, has surged from 17 percent of the vote at a March national election, to around 30 percent in recent opinion polls. The less hardline 5-Star, on the other hand, has held steady at about 30 percent.

Salvini’s refusal to take in migrants rescued at sea by humanitarian ships has drawn criticism from some Roman Catholic factions because Pope Francis has made compassion toward refugees and migrants a plank of his papacy.

As a result, last month a popular Christian magazine comparing Salvini to Satan on its front cover.

But a recent Ipsos poll showed support for Salvini among Catholics who attend mass at least once a week has doubled, reaching almost 32 percent in July from just under 16 percent in March.

The previous center-left government passed a law granting limited rights to same sex couples in “civil unions” two years ago. After taking power in June, the League’s minister for the family, Lorenzo Fontana, caused a stir when he said that as far as he was concerned “rainbow families don’t exist”.

Fontana, known for his conservative Catholic views, has also called for the repeal of the current law which punishes racial and religious discrimination.

On another issue, Salvini told the website he would try to crack down on shops selling legal cannabis products that have no psychoactive effects, which have become widespread in Italy.

“These shops seem like Chinese massage centers that disguise fully-fledged brothels,” he said.

Salvini promised to find a compromise with the health minister, who is from 5-Star and who he said took a different view to him on the matter.

  26. Muslim convert admits London Oxford Street terror plot (BBC, Aug 10, 2018)
    https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-45147682

“A man has pleaded guilty to plotting a terror attack on London’s Oxford Street and raising money for terrorism.

Lewis Ludlow, 26, planned to hire a van and hit pedestrians and also targeted Madame Tussauds and St Paul’s Cathedral, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

He pleaded guilty at the Old Bailey and is due to be sentenced on 2 November.

Ludlow, who also used the name Ali Hussain, had hoped to kill up to 100 people.

A spokesman for the CPS said he had been under 24-hour armed police surveillance.

Ludlow, from Rochester, Kent, first came to the attention of police in 2010 when he attended a demonstration led by radical preacher Anjem Choudary and his banned Al-Muhajiroun group.

When Ludlow was arrested in 2015, Islamic State group material was found on his electronic devices but no further action was taken.

He had also been in contact with Junaid Hussain, an IS fighter from the UK who was killed in drone strike in 2016, the prosecution said.

Police also observed Ludlow at Al-Muhajiroun group demonstrations, where he was seen with, or near, Anjem Choudary and Lee Rigby’s killer Michael Adebowale…”

Foul-mouthed Antifa demonstrators went on a rampage August 6 as they assaulted two high-profile conservative activists at a downtown Philadelphia restaurant for being conservatives and supporters of President Trump.

The attack came the day after Antifa smashed the windows at a U.S. Marine Corps recruiting office in Berkeley, Calif., during a leftist counter-protest of a “No to Marxism” rally. Twenty people were arrested. “Besides the damage to the Marine Corps post, Berkeley police also said ‘an extremist element among a large group’ damaged 21 city vehicles, setting one on fire, and slashed their tires,” Fox News reported.

The incident in Pennsylvania’s biggest city also came after the leftist mayor of Portland, Ore., Ted Wheeler (D), allowed anarchy to break out in his city, instead of cracking down on Antifa troublemaking. For 38 days Wheeler, who is also police commissioner, allowed hundreds of his Antifa allies to unlawfully occupy public property at an Occupy ICE protest site that eventually became a biohazard. “I do not want the @PortlandPolice to be engaged or sucked into a conflict, particularly from a federal agency that I believe is on the wrong track,” he tweeted. “If [ICE is] looking for a bailout from this mayor, they are looking in the wrong place.”

  28. The Media Touted the Same Demographic Changes Laura Ingraham Mentioned

The media has dedicated numerous think pieces to the demographic changes that its lefty political faction expects will make white people and Republicans into a permanent minority. These pieces have alternated between the gleeful to the censorious.

And then Laura Ingraham mentioned the demographic changes. That was followed by howls of outrage from the left. And cries of racism.

But here’s what she actually said.

Trump’s criticism of the media “is contributing to a rise in threats against journalists and will lead to violence,” claims Artie Sulzberger, the latest scion of the New York Times dynasty.

Artie, who got the chairman job because of his last name, earns $5 million a year. The only threat to him came from a shameless bootlicking Washington Post article praising his journalistic humility.

“Yeah, we get it, you don’t like us. Fine. But do you have to put our lives in danger?” MSNBC’s Katy Tur whined. “He wants to endanger the lives of journalists,” columnist Connie Smith wailed at Trump.

How endangered is the modern media hack?

Reporters, pundits and other fake news media gobbers have been claiming that Trump is endangering them for a while now.

“How long before someone is seriously hurt, or worse?” New York Times media columnist Jim Rutenberg demanded last August.

How long? It’s been over a year now.

“Someone is going to do something awful to a journalist,” Jeffrey Toobin claimed on CNN. And they have. They’ve mocked, ridiculed and humiliated the media for its hysterical fake news nonsense.
