This came to my attention because I heard about Iran expropriating a (Jewish) family’s land for a mosque. Although I can’t find an article about that expropriation, here is what I found: (Now, in what ways does this expropriation differ from that done by MBS in KSA?) On July 7, 1979, the new Islamic state in Iran issued a decree seizing the assets of 51 supporters of the previous regime and their families. A few weeks later, a revolutionary Court issued a separate order confiscating the assets of another 209 individuals and their families.
According to court documents the claimants provided to me, the properties seized included major factories and industrial conglomerates, hotels, private residences, real estate, land, stock, and other holdings, which today are worth more than $100 billion.
In all, thousands of Iranians were directly robbed by the Islamic regime, and millions more were terrorized with the threat of confiscations.
Many of these individuals subsequently fled to America and became U.S. citizens. The figures offer an insight into how violent crime in the country is escalating at an alarming rate. The extent of that increase is illustrated starkly by figures from the capital’s Metropolitan Police Service, Britain’s biggest force.
Five years ago in 2013 it issued just 24 threat to life notices, and in 2014, it formally made 64 such warnings. However, last year the Met gave 425 notices, a nine per cent rise on the 390 it made in 2016.

A MAN is fighting for life in hospital after being found stabbed outside an east London police station, in the latest shocking violent incident to hit the capital.
The critically injured man, thought to be in his 30s, was found lying outside the police station in Ilford High Road just after 4am today.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and took the stricken victim to hospital.
Police cordoned off the area and are currently investigating the brazen attack.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) – The United States is considering intensified naval patrols in the South China Sea in a bid to challenge China’s growing militarization of the waterway, actions that could further raise the stakes in one of the world’s most volatile areas.
The Pentagon is weighing a more assertive program of so-called freedom-of-navigation operations close to Chinese installations on disputed reefs, two U.S. officials and Western and Asian diplomats close to discussions said.
The officials declined to say how close they were to finalizing a decision.
Such moves could involve longer patrols, ones involving larger numbers of ships or operations involving closer surveillance of Chinese facilities in the area, which now include electronic jamming equipment and advanced military radars.

Indonesian police raid university over suspected plot to attack assemblies
JAKARTA (Reuters) – Indonesian anti-terrorism police have detained a former student and are questioning two others after a raid on a university campus in Pekanbaru, on Sumatra island, where crude bombs and other explosive material were seized, police said.
The former student is thought to have been planning attacks on the Indonesian parliament in Jakarta and the local assembly in Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau province, national police spokesman Setyo Wasisto told a news conference on Sunday.
An earlier police statement had said all three men had been named suspects, but Wasisto said that applied to only one and two were being questioned as witnesses.
Wasisto said the suspect had links to members of the Islamic State-inspired Jemaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD), an umbrella organization on a U.S. State Department terrorist list that is reckoned to have drawn hundreds of Indonesian sympathizers.
During Saturday’s raid on a faculty at Riau University, police found a pipe bomb, a homemade grenade, as well as the homemade explosive triacetone triperoxide (TATP), known as the “Mother of Satan”, Wasisto said.

Nice to have a President who isn’t letting the world run all over the US.
First thing I had to learn when I started studying Japanese was “bowing etiquette”. I was somewhat prepared after years of tae kwon do [Korean], but the Japanese traditions are distinct.
Everybody bows to everybody, but the angles are different, arm positions and facial expressions matter. Eastern body-language is just plain alien for Westerners.
Not that heads-of-state are expected to meet complicated protocol, but I’m sure we’ll notice subtle gestures of respect on both sides.

But with the corporate mindset on Spygate/Russiagate finally shifting to where it’s been headed for months now – toward the recognition that “X”-gate started well before the FBI put down the stake of a formal predicate for an “investigation,” in July 2016 – this is a good time to deploy the chip.
Here is the context in which to view it. If the FBI’s (and other U.S. agencies’) “Trump-Russia probe” started before there were supposedly specific, documented suspicions about George Papadopoulos, that means two things of overriding importance.
First, it means the “Papadopoulos” narrative about how the suspicions supposedly arose is no longer a constraint for reconstructing what happened.
And second, it means that there is nothing constraining us to assume it was a good-faith investigation at all.

Nine people were injured after a van carrying 29 illegal migrants from Afghanistan and Iraq attempted to ram a police checkpoint on the border between Bosnia and Croatia.
The driver, thought to be Bosnian, had been discovered ferrying the migrants across the border from his own country, which is outside the European Union, into Croatia, which joined the bloc in 2013.
Croatian police set up a roadblock to stop the vehicle near the south-eastern town of Zadar, but the migrants decide they would attempt to ram through it rather than surrender, forcing officers to open fire, Business Insider reports.
“The driver did not stop after several warnings. He finally passed through a roadblock and drove towards the police. The police reaction was justified. They were forced to open fire because their lives were in danger,” said Zadar police chief Ranko Drazina.
Two migrants described as “children” were said to be in a “serious but stable” condition following the incident, with other injuries being less severe.

ERBIL — A group of armed men belonging to unidentified Iraqi forces on Friday attacked a small restaurant in the central province of Babil merely for serving meals during Muslim’s holy month of Ramadan.
Citing an anonymous security source, Iraqi media reported that the attackers beat the restaurant workers and then kidnapped two of them.
The two abducted workers were later left nearby a hospital, the source stated.

Germany: Far-right march challenged by counter-demo in Lower Saxony
About 200 far-right activists marched through the town of Goslar, Lower Saxony, this Saturday to mark the so-called ‘Day of the German Future’ (TDDZ).
The demonstrators were met by a large counter-protest outside Goslar’s main train station. A large police presence was on the scene to prevent the two sides from clashing. Both demonstrations passed off peacefully.

‘Shooting incident’ at Berlin Cathedral
Armed police have cordoned off Berlin Cathedral after an officer reportedly shot a man inside the building on Sunday afternoon.
Eyewitness video showed crews with submachine guns and police tape being put up around the cathedral.
“A shot was fired in the Berlin Cathedral,” a police spokeswoman told Reuters news agency.
The circumstances of the shooting incident remain unclear, but unconfirmed reports in local media suggested a police officer has been injured.

Syria’s Assad says will visit North Korea, news agency reports
SEOUL (Reuters) – Syrian President Bashar al-Assad said he plans to visit North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, North Korean state media reported on Sunday, potentially the first meeting between Kim and another head of state in Pyongyang.
“I am going to visit the DPRK and meet HE Kim Jong Un,” Assad said on May 30, North Korea’s KCNA news agency reported, using the initials of the country’s official name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
There was no immediate comment from the Syrian president’s office.
Assad reportedly made the remarks as he received the credentials of North Korean Ambassador Mun Jong Nam.
Pyongyang and Damascus maintain good relations, and United Nations monitors have accused North Korea of cooperating with Syria on chemical weapons, a charge the North denies.
Both countries have faced international isolation, North Korea over its nuclear weapons program, and Syria over its tactics during a bloody civil war.
Since the beginning of the year, however, North Korea’s Kim has launched a flurry of diplomatic meetings with leaders in China and South Korea, and is scheduled to hold a summit with U.S. President Donald Trump in Singapore on June 12.
Since taking power in 2011, Kim has not publicly met with another head of state in North Korea.
“The world welcomes the remarkable events in the Korean peninsula brought about recently by the outstanding political caliber and wise leadership of HE Kim Jong Un,” Assad said, according to KCNA. “I am sure that he will achieve the final victory and realize the reunification of Korea without fail.”
According to South Korea’s foreign ministry, North Korea established diplomatic relations with Syria in 1966, opening its embassy in Damascus. Syria opened its mission in Pyongyang in 1969.
Close military cooperation between the two countries began when North Korea sent some 530 troops including pilots, tank drivers and missile personnel to Syria during the Arab-Israeli war in October 1973.
“The Syrian government will as ever fully support all policies and measures of the DPRK leadership and invariably strengthen and develop the friendly ties with the DPRK,” Assad said, as quoted by KCNA.
