These ATM bombings actually are a lot more serious than the article lets on to. ATMs are a mainstay of the Thai (and every other international) tourist industry. Thailand’s percentage of GDP—based upon tourism alone—is nearly twice the global average of nine percent. Ergo, these bombings easily could have double the impact than they might cause elsewhere, if a lot not more.
After all, most of these bombed ATM sites (redundant, I know) were in the more prosperous—easily accessed, tourist popular, and heavily sex-trafficked—Southern Thailand region, whereas, even a slight decrease of attendance in the more primitive northern Chang Mai tourist loop can be life-changing with even minor alterations in its economic cycles.
Thailand is one of Southeast Asia’s (and the world’s) economic success stories. The percentage of its population living below the national poverty line has decreased from 65.26 percent in 1988 to 13.15 percent in 2011 (per Wiki). Yet, just as with almost any other recent aspirant nations (Lebanon, anyone? India? Egypt?), Islam’s benighting shadow is cast over the scene like a Wet. Black. Sopping. Felt. Blanket.
Islamic terrorism mandates worldwide transportation security measures that drain the global economy of over one trillion dollars per year. This suppression of regional growth is, in some ways, even more devastating because it inhibits the flow of precious foreign, difficultly-won, hard currencies into these otherwise impoverished tourist destinations. Second World countries are almost unanimously dependent upon these tourism-related revenues, even if it just their own ex-pat nationals returning to spend some of their Western wealth back in the Old Country.

I have found that the officers that are warriors generally have brains and the higher ranking the more they have. The officers who are bureaucrats on the other hand seem to be on the level of most politicians.

They accepted this and sent authorization to buy a new crowbar.

President Trump has tweeted in support of Fox News pundit Tomi Lahren morning after she had a drink thrown in her face during a brunch altercation on Sunday.
Lahren, whose conservative views and outspoken demeanor consistently rattle her critics, was with her mother at the UNION restaurant in Minneapolis when another diner tossed a glass of water on her as she walked past her table.
Witnesses said Lahren had been behaving badly towards staff and that the restaurant ‘cheered’ when she was doused.
Footage of the attack circulated on Snapchat and Lahren, 25, was outraged.
To back her up, the president tweeted on Wednesday morning: ‘Everybody is with Tomi Lahren, a truly outstanding and respected young woman!’

He uses the coercive power of the government to force people to live their lives as he sees fit.

He refers to low income individuals as “those people” and then takes a shot at coal miners and the U.S. military. He clearly reveals his arrogant, bullying worldview. But in Illinois, one of the major reasons to seek a change of venue is because the state is simply taxing them out of their homes, according to Chicago’s WGN TV.
According to reports, Illinois alone lost 33,703 citizens to outward migration last year. In 2016, the state lost another 37,508 people. A report by the Chicago Tribune also noted that Chicago has been a net loser of its citizens for the last three years running. And the surrounding county was also a net loser of its population.
Indeed, Chicago is unique in the U.S. for being the only major city that has consistently lost citizens over the last five years. The Tribune’s editorial board even published an editorial saying that it no longer makes any sense to live in Illinois.

Myanmar Rohingya militants massacred Hindus, says Amnesty
Rohingya Muslim militants in Myanmar killed dozens of Hindu civilians during attacks last August, according to an investigation by Amnesty International.
The group called Arsa killed up to 99 Hindu civilians in one, or possibly two massacres, said the rights group. Arsa had denied involvement.

Hundreds of girls have refused to return to their school in northeast Nigeria because of security fears following a mass kidnapping by Boko Haram militants, parents and teachers said on Tuesday.
Terrorists stormed the Government Girls Technical College in Dapchi on February 19, seizing 111 schoolgirls in a carbon copy of the abduction in Chibok in 2014 that caused global outrage.
All but six of the Dapchi girls were returned to the school just over a month later. Five died in captivity while the only Christian among them is still being held.
The school re-opened on April 30 but one teacher, who asked not to be identified for fear of official sanctions, said most pupils have stayed away because they were still afraid.

A businessman was today spared jail after attacking a business partner over an ice cream parlour deal gone wrong – but was told he won’t have to start his punishment until Ramadan is over.
Imran Amin was placed on an electronic tag confining him to his home address overnight for 12 weeks over the attack on Muhammad Mehmood in Dundee’s Lyon Street last November 2.
But a sheriff ordered that doesn’t start until June 16 – the day the Muslim month of fasting ends this year.

A Labour Party constituency boss has been suspended for tweets about the shadow foreign secretary being beheaded by the Islamic State (IS) group.
Lewisham East Constituency Labour Party (CLP) chairman Ian McKenzie said the group would behead Emily Thornberry instead of taking her as a sex slave.
Critics described the tweets, posted between 2015 and 2016, as “vile”.
An investigation into Mr McKenzie’s actions has now begun, the Labour Party has confirmed.
A Labour spokesman told the BBC: “The issue is being looked into. Ian has now been suspended pending investigation.”

French authorities have been warned that Muslims could “set fire to the neighbourhood” in one of Paris’s migrant-populated suburbs following a court order to take down a number of tents erected for Ramadan.
An administrative court ordered the tents, which were erected in the commune of Sevran in north-east of Paris, to be taken down as they were placed in a private car park, Le Parisien reports.
The mayor and the Muslim organisers of the tents, which are used to house Muslims praying during the holy month of Ramadan, were given until Tuesday to remove the installations by the court, fueling anger and warnings that the situation could escalate into riots.
If the tents are not removed by the Tuesday deadline, the city could face fines of €2,000 per day.
Mostefa Arar, secretary general of a local association, said: “It has been four years since we installed the tents on this parking lot, at the furthest place from the houses to disturb as little as possible.”

The Sweden Democrats have backed up the Conservatives’ crusade to put an end to so-called “honor culture” permeating Swedish suburbs and stressed that they are prepared to go as far as expulsion to tackle it.
The Swedish Conservatives have presented a new set of measures against so-called “moral police” and honor-related oppression. The party wants to introduce “unlawful restriction of freedom” as a new crime, which they deem punishable by up to three years’ imprisonment.
The Conservatives referred to a 2009 survey by the Youth Board, which identified as many as 70,000 young people aged 16-25 suffering restrictions due to the culture of their parents or environment. According to the Conservatives’ estimate, this figure has risen to at least 240,000 young people in recent years.

A plane crash in Panama in 1994 that killed 21 people, many of them Jews, was the result of a terrorist incident, Panama’s president has said.
Juan Carlos Varela said the evidence came from Israeli intelligence and he had asked for the case to be reopened.

The picture that landed Sjunnesson in hot water was published in connection with the Gothenburg Book Fair in September 2017, which featured two divisive books that led to a hot debate: “Grandmother is no Ghost” and “Grandfather Has Four Wives.” The two books were published in collaboration with the society, Somali Nordic Culture and enlightened preschoolers about other cultures’ ways such as polygamy and full face veils.

JHANG: A man allegedly gunned down his sister and daughter over suspicion of having alleged illicit relations with a man in Jhang on Monday.
A police official told The Express News that the incident took place near Mochiwala area. He added accused Taj had suspicion over the character of her married sister Kauser, 40, and her 20-year-old daughter Saeeda.
He added the accused suspected that both women had illicit relations with a man who lived in the same village. In a fit of rage, Taj opened fire on Kausar and Saeeda, killing them on the spot. The police have arrested the suspect and registered a case against him.
Earlier, a woman was strangled to death by her brother and husband in the name of ‘honour’ within the precincts of Ludhianwala police in Faisalabad.
Police said that Tahira Bibi, a resident of Chak No 651/2, Jinnah Abadi, was asleep when her brother Niaz Ali and husband Mubarak Ali strangled her with a rope.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused confessed to murdering the woman and claimed that Tahira had an affair and illicit relations with a villager.

A bollard, Wikipedia tells us, “is a sturdy, short, vertical post. For a time I lived in a city, Amsterdam, where bollards numbering in the tens of thousands have been a feature of the urban landscape for generations. I didn’t know them as bollards, but rather by the local word, Amsterdammertjes. They’re all identical – brown and about hip-high and shaped rather like humongous dildos, which, given the city’s international image, is not entirely inappropriate. Amsterdammertjes were originally intended to separate the sidewalk from the street and protect buildings from traffic; later they also helped prevent illegal parking. For the fact is that throughout the West, bollards – formidable ones – and other, usually less attractive such structures are steadily becoming ubiquitous, and, in the process, dramatically altering the faces of some of the world’s great cities. In Washington, D.C., they began to be installed on a serious scale almost immediately after 9/11. “The 5.5-mile ring of steel posts around the Capitol Building is one of the largest (and most uniform) of its kind in the world,” stated one report last summer. “The waist-high steel posts installed after 9/11 cost about $7,500 a pop, and reportedly can stop ‘an eight-ton truck barreling into them at 50 mph.’”

Macron’s EU Reform Slammed by German Economists as “Great Risks for Europeans” (sputniknews, May 23, 2018)

A collective plea against French President Emmanuel Macron’s reform of the European financial system, signed by more 150 prominent German economists, has been published by the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ). They state that the French leader’s proposals “pose great risks for European citizens,” denouncing the fundamental measures planned to help the EU adapt to the new economic landscape, including the consequences of the Brexit.
According to the scholars, the proposed model of the union “undermines growth and threatens prosperity throughout Europe.”
The planned changes, pushed by Macron and supported by EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will affect several institutions and mechanisms, including setting up the joint budget.
Flawed in Every Measure
One of the major flaws of the new system within the 19-nation euro union, according to scholars, is creating the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), which is supposed to be a reinsurance instrument for bank recovery (backstop). They denounce the idea, as it will function at the expense of growth and financial stability in Europe as banks and regulators will lack incentives to clear bad loans.
Besides, when the ESM, planned as a European Monetary Fund (EMF), is subjected to EU law, non-members of the eurozone will be able to influence it. At the same time, creditor countries, among others Germany, would lose an ability to control the situation and could be easily overruled, as individual countries would be deprived of a right to veto, concerning urgent decisions by the EWF.
The planned shared system of deposit insurance is also viewed by the German scientists as a threat, which would also socialize the cost of past mistakes of banks and governments.
Another idea the economists have slammed is the creation of the European Investment Fund for macroeconomic stabilization and one more fund supporting structural reforms. According to them it would indulge further transfers and loans to eurozone states that have already failed to reform their finance systems, and reward financial misconduct.
The idea of a European minister of finance, able to negotiate with the European Central Bank (ECB) has also become a red flag for the German economists. According to them, an office with such capabilities would make monetary policy more politicized.
They have called for structural reforms instead of creating the mechanisms, which they believe will indulge economic misconduct. According to the economists, the currency union needs an orderly insolvency procedure for states and an orderly withdrawal procedure. They have called for the completion of the Capital Market Union, as well as linking voting rights within the ECB with each state’s liabilities.
Molding Future of EU
Since taking the presidential office in 2017, Emmanuel Macron has advocated for reforming the EU to enable it to compete with big powers like China and the United States. As he put it during the 2018 World Economic Forum in Davos, the countries that share the euro currency should agree on a “much stronger” and “much fairer” system.
Despite unanimity regarding recent international tensions with the US on the Iran deal and tariff exemptions, France and Germany have struggled to sort out their differences over their outlooks regarding the future of the European Union. Despite Germany’s backing of the reform, mentioned in a recent coalition treaty of the new German government, Macron’s proposal of creating a fund for the currency union hasn’t found support. According to German lawmakers, it would create a “transfer union” in which Berlin is likely to foot the bill of collective fund, paying more than other members. Germany, which is the largest net contributor to the union’s budget, insists that each country’s role in this fund should be connected with economic reforms.
However, other member states who are set to contribute more to the bloc after the UK’s exit also voiced their discontent, with Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands describing the proposals as “wrong” and “unacceptable.”
According to last year’s agreement between Merkel and Macron, June 2018 is set to be the deadline for all 19 eurozone states to agree on a reform roadmap.”

“Commenting on reports about the US military’s plans to use Greek bases to store its nuclear weapons, retired Turkish Air Force General Erdogan Karakus told Sputnik that all this reflects Athens’ push to develop its ties with Washington.
Erdogan Karakus, a retired lieutenant-general of the Turkish Air Force, said that “against the background of the events in the Eastern Mediterranean and tensions in Turkish-Greek relations, Athens is seeking to render every support to NATO.”
“The goal is to obtain Washington’s support, something that was confirmed by a [recent visit] by a NATO official to Greece’s Araxos Air Base,” Karakuus said.
Recalling the “confrontation of US and Russian interests in the Eastern Mediterranean region,” he noted that Washington cannot rely on Turkey in this confrontation.
“While Greece is making efforts to use America’s support against Turkey when it comes to the issues related to Cyprus and the Aegean Islands, the US, in turn, is seeking to derive maximum benefit from this situation. So it is safe to say that the NATO official’s visit to Araxos is sort of Washington’s warning to Ankara,” Karakus pointed out…”
Hopefully we have already removed the nukes from Turkey.
Turkey has the choice of trying to get either the US or Russia on their side in the arguments with Turkey, the US under Trump is more reliable but we won’t know about the long run until we see who replaces him.

While any nuclear “COLO” (Co-Location) of atomic weapons involving Ankara and Athens (much less all points between) makes about as much sense as deep-fried, “Jiro Dreams of Sashimi”, anything that strips Turkey (America’s favorite November pastime) and includes Greece (this nation’s permanent fast-food staple, and an essential part of swimming the English Channel), can only make for higher-water marks in most patriotic American quarters.

“My knowledge of Josiah Henson dates from his visit to this country twenty-five years ago, when my late brother Thomas Sturge, with other friends of the negro race, helped to establish ‘The Dawn Institute for the Education of Colored People in Canada.’ I regard Josiah Henson in many respects as a remarkable man. When I contemplate his unselfish efforts ( at great risk to himself) to rescue his brethren in slavery, after he had obtained his own liberty, and his labors as a free man to educate and enlighten them, I consider that there are few men now living who have done so much for the negro race. When it is remembered, too, that he was a slave for forty-two years, his life affords an encouraging example of what may be done, even by one who has labored under the greatest disadvantages, who is earnestly desirous to benefit his race. His Christian simplicity, and the absence of all bitter feelings towards those who have oppressed him, will have commended him to all who have made his acquaintance. The life of “Uncle Tom,’ now extended in its records to the present date, will be found by its readers to possess deep interest, and will doubtless be favorably received. On submitting these observations to SAMUEL MORLEY, his remark was, “I THOROUGHLY AGREE WITH THEM.’ ” – Sydenham, Oct. 1876.
