After visiting North Korea, South Korea officials to meet China, Japan leaders
SEOUL (Reuters) – Two senior South Korean officials who met with North Korea’s Kim Jong Un last week will split up to visit the leaders of China and Japan this week to update them on the talks, a South Korean presidential official said on Sunday.
Blue House spokesman Kim Eui-kyeom said in a mobile message that National Security Office head Chung Eui-yong will meet with China’s Xi Jinping on Monday, while spy agency chief Suh Hoon, accompanied by one of Chung’s deputies Nam Gwan-pyo, will speak with Japan’s Shinzo Abe on Tuesday.
Chung and Suh will leave for China and Japan separately on Monday to discuss their visit to North Korea with officials there. Chung is also scheduled to visit Russia after his trip to Beijing, but the details of that have yet to be announced.
The two officials returned on Sunday from a visit to the United States where an invitation from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for dialogue on his nuclear program was delivered to U.S. President Donald Trump.

Trump says North Korea talks could fail or bring ‘greatest deal’
MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (Reuters) – U.S. President Donald Trump said on Saturday his planned meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un could fizzle without an agreement or it could result in “the greatest deal for the world” to ease nuclear tensions between the two countries.
“I may leave fast” if progress does not seem possible, Trump said at a campaign rally for Republican congressional candidate Rick Saccone in western Pennsylvania. Trump said he believes North Korea wants to make peace and that, “I think it’s time.”
A time and place to meet has not yet been set, although the meeting is supposed to happen by the end of May.
“Who knows what’s going to happen?” said Trump, who added that if the meeting takes place, “I may leave fast or we may sit down and make the greatest deal for the world.”
Trump made the shocking decision on Thursday to meet with Kim after the North Korean leader’s invitation was relayed by a South Korean delegation who visited the White House. The move abruptly reversed decades of U.S. policy aimed at preventing North Korea from developing nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles.

The whole world seems to have heard in the last 48 hours about the Oakland coffee shop that won’t sell a cup of joe to a cop.
The most common reaction seems to be some version of “How would the shop like it if the cops didn’t come when there was an emergency?”
Which is about the reaction you’d expect, and you won’t hear me saying it’s wrong.
But I did have a pondering moment on Friday when I first read the Hasta Muerte Coffee’s manifesto on Instagram about the no-cops policy and how its purpose is to ensure “the safety of customers.”

Immigration Worker Protection Act
The Act put several practices into place to prevent migrant workers from becoming subject to broad immigration enforcement sweeps that are known to happen from time to time. Among the provisions of the bill are requirements that:
Demand a warrant from immigration officials before giving them access to a worksite;
Make it illegal to provide immigration officials confidential employee information without a subpoena;
Require companies to inform their employees prior to a federal audit of their records; and
Prohibit an employer from going back and re-verifying information that was provided on employment forms.

That last one sounds treacherous because it interferes with freedom of speech — when asking employees to update their information. I don’t understand how a school district or Federal contractor could do a periodic review without re-verifying information on employment forms.
Double standards on religious freedom

Religious exemptions should be afforded evenhandedly. They should not be denied to religious conservatives, while being granted to those whose beliefs are deemed more progressive.
But in practice, this sometimes happens. Judges recognize religious exemptions for some people — even when those exemptions place enormous costs or burdens on third-parties or society — yet deny religious exemptions to others, citing temporary inconvenience to third parties. Thus, they permit progressive peaceniks to avoid the draft for religious reasons, even when that means that someone else will be drafted and die as a result. Yet they insist with a straight face that conservative religious wedding photographers and wedding-cake makers cannot be given an exemption from laws requiring them to facilitate gay weddings, even when the gay couple can easily obtain the same service from a different, non-religious provider.

Abolishing ICE likely to become 2020 campaign issue for Democrats

Left-wing pundits and activists are increasing pressure on Democratic politicians to embrace the fringe position of abolishing ICE.
Once a fringe idea on the far Left, abolishing the nation’s immigration enforcement agency now looks likely to become a campaign issue in the Democrats’ 2020 presidential primary.
Former Hillary Clinton campaign spokesman Brian Fallon came out for eliminating the agency in January. “ICE operates as an unaccountable deportation force,” Fallon argued. “Dems running in 2020 should campaign on ending the agency in its current form.”
Liberal writer Jack Mirkinson on Friday slammed Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) for waffling on the question of whether the agency should be shut down, writing at Splinter, a left-wing website:

“We needed it urgently because we did not have an air defense system. We even had troubles with buying simple rifles from the US due to concerns of the Congress. We had to buy it from someone,” Cavusoglu told the Zeit newspaper, in an exclusive interview.
The S-400 Triumf is the most advanced Russian anti-aircraft system, designed to engage aerodynamic targets at a range of up to 400km and ballistic missiles up to 60km away. The launcher can use at least four interceptor missile types, suited to different targets. An S-400 division can engage up to 36 targets simultaneously.
Turkey, however, is ready to purchase the corresponding US systems, namely Patriot anti-air missiles, as well, if “the US government can guarantee that Congress will approve it,” the official stated. This will not mean that Turkey would scrap the agreement with Russia or not use the S-400 systems when they would be delivered, as the country seeks to strengthen military and technological cooperation with many partners simultaneously, including European countries.
“The deal has already been signed. But we will continue to buy products in the future. We hope for joint investment and technology transfer in the armaments sector,” Cavusoglu said. “But if we do not get anything from our allies, we have to buy it from somebody else.”
Cavusoglu’s remarks echoed a statement by Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who vowed to stick to the S-400 deal with Russia, despite the threat of US sanctions. Washington could, potentially, slap Ankara with sanctions over the deal, under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), which was signed by the US President last August.
“You claimed that the contract with Russia was a mistake. You also said that you might introduce sanctions. We are not going to be accountable to you. We will proceed along the right way without any concessions for the sake of achieving our own goals,” Erdogan said earlier this week.
In the event of any US sanctions Turkey will “respond” in a fashion different from other countries, Cavusoglu stated, without providing any details of the possible retaliation.
“If they want to punish Turkey with sanctions, then Turkey would react differently than Russia or other countries. We would answer. You should not threaten us. We are a NATO ally,” the top diplomat warned. “The US is threatening many, saying something like: ‘Do not buy gas from this or that country.’ That will not do. Being strong is not being right.”…”

Germany: Making immigrants speak local language (2014)
Proposal In 2014, just prior to the seismic migrant influx of the following year, the Christian Social Union in Bavaria (CSU), the influential regional sister party to Angela Merkel’s CDU, introduced a “well-prepared and widely backed” proposal that both recent arrivals and established immigrant communities must communicate in German both in public and in private to aid integration, and to help their children catch up with locals in school.

Results While the sentiment may have played well with the party’s conservative base, the idea set off a storm of rage and ridicule, not least from the CSU’s coalition partners, who accused the party of “cultural dementia.” The CSU backtracked almost immediately, saying that its proposals had been “misunderstood,” and were never intended to be mandatory. In 2016, Germany adopted a new Integration Law that provides financial incentives for those attending language and civics courses, and allows the government to allocate any newcomers away from immigrant-heavy areas to prevent ghetto creation.
France: Sarkozy’s ghetto Marshall Plan (2007)
Proposal As he campaigned for his one-term presidency, Nicolas Sarkozy outlined a typically grandiose vision of a “new Marshall Plan” for France’s ghettoized banlieues, still alienated in the aftermath of the 2005 riots. The candidate promised a top-to-bottom makeover – better transport links, more jobs, second-chance schools and a promise to the poorly-educated, largely unemployed population of “access to every position of responsibility, including the very highest.”

Results Most of the proposals weren’t budgeted or costed, and by 2010 the initiative lost priority – Sarkozy’s specially-created Ministry of Immigration, Integration, National Identity and Solidarity Development was abolished, while Fadela Amara, the politician in charge of urban renewal, left the government. In the 2012 election Sarkozy lost to Francois Hollande, ghettos were barely a talking point, edged out by economic issues, though the socialist government later announced similar initiatives with less fanfare. The banlieues have continued to be a breeding ground for foreign and domestic terrorists, while Marine Le Pen has become the leading voice for enforced integration.
Netherlands: De-Islamization (2017)
Proposal Party for Freedom leader Geert Wilders has long called Islam an “existential threat” to Western civilization, while accusing Muslim immigrants of wreaking ”street terror” upon communities where they constitute a noticeable percentage. As his party surged into the lead ahead of the 2017 parliamentary election, he published a manifesto that would “de-Islamize” the Netherlands. Among the proposals: a stripping of all licenses for mosques and Islamic schools, a ban of the Koran, and a denaturalization of dual-nationality criminals, coupled with a revocation of all asylum permits.

“A French police officer, who works as part of a plainclothes team on the Paris metro to prevent crime, has claimed that the majority of sex attackers he arrests come from North African backgrounds.
The officer, named Fabien, is part of the special force of eighty or so police who travel the metro in plain clothes to prevent violent attacks and sexual assaults, Le Figaro reports.
According to Fabien, the sex assaults occur mostly on the 2, 4, and 13 lines of the metro, generally in the northern part of the city.
He said that the suspects can come from a variety of backgrounds and he has seen sexual predators aged 12 to 86, but noted: “for more than ten years that I have done this job, the suspects I have arrested are a very, very large majority from a North African origin.”
“As for the victims,” he said, “they could be teenagers or retirees. And men too, more and more.”
Violence, including sexual violence, is becoming more and more of a problem for authorities in Paris. According to a survey of the Ille-de-France region where Paris is located, 43 per cent of violent sexual incidents occur on public transit and 87 per cent of female travellers say they have been the victims of some type of sexual assault or harassment in the past.
Drivers for the RATP, the company that operates the metro in Paris, have even said they will not stop at certain stations because of the risk of danger to passengers safety — and their own safety, as employees are often attacked as well.
Some, like mobile phone app designer Fabien Boyaval, have attempted to innovate ways of keeping women safer on French public transit, partnering with RATP to promote a chaperone app which allows travellers to meet with others while travelling on the metro or in dangerous areas, in order make attacks less likely.”

Kansas Secretary of State and gubernatorial candidate Kris Kobach has filed two more criminal complaints against individuals he says committed voter fraud during the 2016 general election.
This week, Que J. Fulmer and Bailey Ann McCaughey were charged with voter fraud violations, with Kobach saying, “These prosecutions will help deter voter fraud in the future” of the criminal complaints.
According to Kobach, Fulmer was charged with two counts of voting without being qualified, one count of voting more than once, and one count of advance voting unlawful acts.

One boat with 110 migrants on board made it as far as rescue ship Aquarius, operated by the Berlin-based non-governmental organization SOS Mediterranee and Doctors Without Borders (MSF) about 21 miles from the coast west of Tripoli, which was preparing to deliver the migrants to Italy.
More than half the migrants on that boat were Nigerians, with the rest from other sub-Saharan African countries as well as two Palestinians.

Every day we hear on television, “We need an honest discussion about race in this country”.
Many well-meaning Americans, however, may have had enough of this endless, empty and dysfunctional discussion of race. To an outsider, Americans seem obsessed with race; and the discussion always deteriorates to shouting, insulting, blaming, finger-pointing, distorting reality and removing any hope of taking responsibility for oneself. The goal of the discussion always seems to be to try to claim that “I am holier than thou.”
We immigrants, on the other hand, the minute we land in the US, we feel the political struggle for our vote.
The day I got my citizenship and went out to register to vote, some people in the room told me to register as a Democrat because the Democrats would protect my rights from the racist establishment and give me “stuff.” Many of the people who had come with me did register that way, but I found the urging alarming. I grew up under a socialist, totalitarian system under the leadership of President Gamal Abdel Nasser in Egypt — a nanny state that also gives you “stuff’.” What many Americans do not realize is that the free stuff can be too expensive

According to those in the know in Paris, France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian is a smart soft-soaper capable of persuading a mule out of its hind legs.
A provincial politician, Le Drian emerged from relative obscurity towards the end of President François Hollande’s much-maligned presidency. As Defense Minister in Hollande’s government, Le Drian was quickly established as the star of a moribund administration.
While other ministers turned round vacuous illusions, Le Drian won a reputation as a “doer” (in French faiseur) by winning huge contracts for the sale of the latest French combat aircraft, the Dassault Rafale, to a number of countries including Brazil, Egypt and India, thus providing some good news for Hollande’s bad-news tenure.
Le Drian was Socialist enough to survive several Cabinet reshuffles but not too Socialist to remain on board as the party’s sinking ship.
Knowing when to abandon ship, Le Drian was the first senior politician to jump on Emanuel Macron’s presidential bandwagon at a time few rated the young aspirant’s chances above that of a snowflake in June.
He’s exactly right.

Arab criminal gangs operating in Berlin have been accused of targetting individual police officers with threats, including spreading rumours of sexual encounters with prostitutes, in order to intimidate or take revenge on officers.
Over the past several years, the power of Arab family organised crime gangs in Berlin has increased substantially as they have largely taken over the city’s drug and prostitution trade. According to a new report, the gangs are now using their power to threaten and intimidate authorities to stop investigations, German media reports.
The gangs have developed several different tactics to intimidate or discredit officers including spreading rumours that certain officers have been visiting with prostitutes or even that they were being given free girls for sex, insinuating they were corrupt.
Berlin police spokesman Benjamin Jendro said “such slander is very stressful for our colleagues.”
Another tactic the gangs use is to cause mayhem during arrests by calling on their large extended families to show up and cause trouble, with the intention being to free their family member in the ensuing chaos.

March 10, 2018 (KHARTOUM) Sudan’s Minister of Water Resources and Electricity Muataz Musa said Russia has agreed to supply Sudan with a small- capacity floating nuclear plant to produce electricity.
Last December, The Russian State Corporation for Atomic Energy (Rosatom) said it signed an agreement to build the first nuclear power plant to produce electricity in Sudan.
Speaking on a talk show broadcasted by the state-run Radio Omdurman Saturday, Musa said his ministry has put the necessary measures to ensure a stable supply of electricity during the summer.
He added his ministry is also working to complete the technical studies to build Sudan’s nuclear power plant within eight years under the supervision and follow-up of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
In November 2017, Musa said the construction of the nuclear plant will take a year and a half after the signing of the contract, pointing the project is part of a government plan to generate more than 5000 megawatts by 2020.

New Florida Law Upholds First Amendment
The state of Florida passed new legislation reaffirming first amendment rights on college campuses. The new rules ban so called “free speech zones” on college campuses that limit free speech to specific areas. They also allow protesters to sue schools which violate their first amendment rights.
“The Florida Excellence in Higher Education Act of 2018 passed Monday in the House and Senate by votes of 84-28 and 33-5, respectively,” the Washington Times reported.

German Police Launch Inquiry Into Mosque Attack They Claim is Attempted Murder
Unknown perpetrators threw so called Molotov cocktails, also known as petrol bombs, onto a mosque while an imam was inside the building.
An attack on a mosque in the German town Lauffen am Neckar has prompted a police inquiry, German newspaper Die Zeit reported.
Although the move did not lead to any injuries, police have classified the case as attempted murder, because an imam was inside the building at the time of the crime.
The damage is estimated at about 5,000 euro and the perpetrators remain unknown.
According to the Federal Ministry of the Interior, there were almost 1,000 attacks on Muslims and Muslim institutions committed last year. As a result of the attacks, 33 people were injured.
Since 2015, the European Union has been facing an acute migration crisis resulting from an influx of asylum seekers and migrants fleeing hostilities and crises in the Middle East and Northern Africa.
The crisis partly came as a result of German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s open door migration policy, which has been criticized by many EU residents and politicians.
At the same time, Europe has been one of the main targets of terrorist attacks by jihadists, which is why some countries have expressed their desire to restrict migration for fear of even more terrorists reaching the continent in the vast migrant flows. The terrorist threat has also led to a rise in right-wing and anti-Islam sentiments in many European countries.

A mosque in Berlin has been set on fire by masked assailants in the early hours of Sunday morning.
“Witnesses told us that three assailants with covered faces threw burning material and immediately ran away,” said Bayram Turk, the head of the mosque association.
This attacks comes only a few days after another mosque frequented by the Turkish community in Germany was attacked on Friday.

Yildiz went on to criticise German politicians for not visiting the site of the fire. He said, I’d also wished that the CDU leader, the SPD leader, all those so-called democrats are here, so that they can also so that they distance themselves from this. It’s not enough that just the Interior Senator is here.”

An estimated 1,700 Syrian Arabs have abandoned the frontlines against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) to assist the Kurds in their fight against Turkey in northern Syria as Ankara claims to have seized “nearly half” of the Afrin region.
“We have taken out around 1,700 fighters … to defend Afrin against terrorism,” declared Abu Omar al-Edilbi, a spokesman for the Arab militias, which have been fighting ISIS in eastern Syria as part of the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), reports Reuters.
“We are (originally) from Aleppo and Idlib,” he added. “We had to because our families were homeless and displaced to Afrin more than three years ago. … We had to [redeploy fighters] unfortunately, and we informed our leadership that we must pull our forces.”
“After announcing the redeployment, he told Reuters in Raqqa that 700 of the fighters had already gone to Afrin in northwest Syria. They were moving from frontlines further east, where the Kurdish-led SDF seized vast territory from Islamic State militants last year with the help of U.S. jets and special forces,” notes Reuters.
