      • At the risk of repeating myself, Molyneux’s example of “miasma” versus biologically vectored transmission is just another less-articulate subset of Michael Crichton’s brilliant 2003 Cal-Poly lecture, “Aliens Cause Global Warming“.

        Sidebar: Much to my astonishment, such an articulate and erudite person as Stefan Molyneux neglected to mention a beyond-perfect example of the “miasma” myth; when he failed to cite one of this world’s oldest and most persistent scourges.

        As in, “Malaria“:

        1740, from Italian mal’aria, from mala aria, literally “bad air,” from mala “bad” (fem. of malo, from Latin malus; see mal-) + aria “air” (see air (n.1)). Probably first used by Italian physician Francisco Torti (1658-1741). The disease, now known to be mosquito-borne, once was thought to be caused by foul air in marshy districts. Replaced native ague.

        With this, Crichton precedes Molyneux by a solid FIFTEEN YEARS in his scathing dismissal of “accepted wisdom” or, more accurately, Consensus Science (one of the most deadly predecessors of Socialism.

        From the 2003 lecture:

        One might expect it [the “Nuclear Winter” model] to be the subject of some dispute. But [Carl] Sagan and his coworkers were prepared, for nuclear winter was from the outset the subject of a well-orchestrated media campaign. The first announcement of nuclear winter appeared in an article by Sagan in the Sunday supplement, Parade. The very next day, a highly-publicized, high-profile conference on the long-term consequences of nuclear war was held in Washington, chaired by Carl Sagan and Paul Ehrlich, the most famous and media-savvy scientists of their generation.

        Sagan appeared on the Johnny Carson show 40 times. Ehrlich was on 25 times. Following the conference, there were press conferences, meetings with congressmen, and so on. The formal papers in Science came months later.

        This is not the way science is done, it is the way products are sold …
        … At the conference in Washington, during the question period, Ehrlich was reminded that after Hiroshima and Nagasaki, scientists were quoted as saying nothing would grow there for 75 years, but in fact melons were growing the next year. So, he was asked, how accurate were these findings now?

        Ehrlich answered by saying “I think they are extremely robust. Scientists may have made statements like that, although I cannot imagine what their basis would have been, even with the state of science at that time, but scientists are always making absurd statements, individually, in various places. What we are doing here, however, is presenting a consensus of a very large group of scientists”

        I want to pause here and talk about this notion of consensus, and the rise of what has been called consensus science. I regard consensus science as an extremely pernicious development that ought to be stopped cold in its tracks. Historically, the claim of consensus has been the first refuge of scoundrels; it is a way to avoid debate by claiming that the matter is already settled. Whenever you hear the consensus of scientists agrees on something or other, reach for your wallet, because you’re being had.

        Let’s be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world.

        In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus. There is no such thing as consensus science. If it’s consensus, it isn’t science. If it’s science, it isn’t consensus. Period.

        In addition, let me remind you that the track record of the consensus is nothing to be proud of. Let’s review a few cases.

        In past centuries, the greatest killer of women was fever following childbirth. One woman in six died of this fever.

        In 1795, Alexander Gordon of Aberdeen suggested that the fevers were infectious processes, and he was able to cure them. The consensus said no.

        In 1843, Oliver Wendell Holmes claimed puerperal fever was contagious, and presented compelling evidence. The consensus said no.

        In 1849, Semmelweiss demonstrated that sanitary techniques virtually eliminated puerperal fever in hospitals under his management. The consensus said he was a Jew, ignored him, and dismissed him from his post. There was in fact no agreement on puerperal fever until the start of the twentieth century. Thus the consensus took one hundred and twenty five years to arrive at the right conclusion despite the efforts of the prominent “skeptics” around the world, skeptics who were demeaned and ignored. And despite the constant ongoing deaths of women.

        There is no shortage of other examples. In the 1920s in America, tens of thousands of people, mostly poor, were dying of a disease called pellagra. The consensus of scientists said it was infectious, and what was necessary was to find the “pellagra germ.” The US government asked a brilliant young investigator, Dr. Joseph Goldberger, to find the cause. Goldberger concluded that diet was the crucial factor. The consensus remained wedded to the germ theory.

        Goldberger demonstrated that he could induce the disease through diet. He demonstrated that the disease was not infectious by injecting the blood of a pellagra patient into himself, and his assistant. They and other volunteers swabbed their noses with swabs from pellagra patients, and swallowed capsules containing scabs from pellagra rashes in what were called “Goldberger’s filth parties.” Nobody contracted pellagra.

        The consensus continued to disagree with him. There was, in addition, a social factor – southern States disliked the idea of poor diet as the cause, because it meant that social reform was required. They continued to deny it until the 1920s. Result-despite a twentieth century epidemic, the consensus took years to see the light.

        Due to prevailing Consensus Science, over the past several centuries, countless millions of women perished from potentially curable infections which (of late) the most basic medical hygiene protocols might have averted with relative ease.

        Even today, Consensus Science continues to cause immense harm. At present (as Crichton notes during his 2003 lecture and in his superb eco-terrorism themed book, “State of Fear”), far too much of “Climate Change” research—be it due to repeatedly and dishonestly “cherry-picked” data from academics, or blatantly fraudulent misrepresentations made by fossil-fuel industry shills—relies upon this thoroughly discredited pseudoscience.

        Replete with technical footnotes, Crichton’s vivid tale of contrived ecological disaster is an updated and high-tech version of Edward Abbey’s 1975 anti-establishment tirade, “The Monkey Wrench Gang“.

        To close, as I’ve mentioned before, having read almost every last written work of Crichton’s: With very few exceptions (e.g., “Prey”), his writing is of exceptional technical caliber while (for each book’s time-of-publication) remaining admirably accurate, well-explained, and detailed far beyond that of his contemporaries.

        At the very least, please read all dozen-or-so pages of, “Aliens Cause Global Warming“. I guarantee that you will not regret it.

    Lawyers, tricksters and con artists. They never change.

    No content in published newspapers or on TV, goes on them without editorial approval and oversight. And so an unmonitored free media-upload site is completely different. But now it is fined for what stupid people do with it.

    Car companies sued for wreckless drivers. Junk food outlets sued by the obese and their maimed children. Phone companies sued for fake calls.
    Police sued for criminal activities.

    The end result of this will be of course, the recognized standard that everyone can sue their Big Government. Their blame for creating an imperfect society. This practise called Communism. You are given a number and a very long line to stand in. People’s Democracy.

    Facebook therefore, should withdraw from the U.K. because any free country would have sued the uploader to remove their content. And after a court battle the winner enforces the takedown, (for which the media company has conveniently built a backdoor key to do so).

    The government fines, lawyers can’t shakedown.

    In the UK they can.

    Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., publisher of the Wall Street Journal and New York Post, will keep an eye on Facebook Inc.’s news-feed changes “for any signs that the weighting of news sites is politically motivated.”

    In a statement Friday, the publisher said it welcomed changes “that reward quality and confront clickbait,” but said it was too soon to say how the revisions would affect publishers. “We intend to monitor the impact closely,” the company said, adding it will continue pressing Facebook to encourage users to subscribe to its newspapers through the social-media platform.

    Saudi Arabia’s richest man is running out of time.

    It’s been more than two months since Prince Alwaleed bin Talal was first arrested and detained in what the Saudi government still calls an “anti-corruption” sweep. Yet the first sign of things getting more serious came early this week when Alwaleed was moved out of his restricted quarters at the Riyadh Ritz Carlton Hotel and moved to Al Ha’ir prison, according to the London-based Arabic news site Al-Araby Al-Jadeed.

    Al Ha’ir is not exactly the Bastille, but the decision to get Alwaleed to a more secluded and secure location is ominous.

    For more than two months, the prince had been held at the Riyadh Ritz along with what had originally been 200 of his fellow princes and top officials. That number has dwindled to just a few prisoners. Most of the former detainees have bought their freedom with payments and other forms of capitulation to the new Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

    But bin Talal is holding out, reportedly balking at the $6 billion bin Salman is demanding from him and/or control of some of his investment companies.

    Netflix has been accused of glamorizing sex trafficking after commissioning an Italian drama based on the Baby Squillo teen prostitution scandal. The U.S.-based National Center on Sexual Exploitation (NCOSE) called for eight-part drama Baby to be axed ahead of its launch.

    The SVOD service ordered the series, which is produced by Italian firm Fabula Pictures, in November. It explores the lives of high school teenagers in Rome and is loosely inspired by a true story, the Baby Squillo scandal, which saw the husband of Mussolini’s granddaughter caught up in a teen prostitution racket in the Parioli district. Mauro Floriani (pictured), the husband of Alessandra Mussolini, was accused of being one of 20 clients of teenage schoolgirls who were selling themselves for sex.

    China experts and former intelligence officials are raising concerns about user data privacy following the acquisition of Grindr, the world’s largest gay dating application, by a Chinese technology firm. The Chinese government, they say, could be in a position to demand sensitive and embarrassing details on the lives of millions of non-Chinese citizens.

    This week, the Kunlun Group completed a full buyout of Grindr, a gay, bi, trans, and queer dating app that claims 3.3 million daily users. The Chinese firm bought 60 percent of the company in Jan. 2016 for $93 million and has now acquired the remaining stake for $152 million, according to stock filings. Grindr announced that Kunlun executives will take over leadership of the company.

    Little needs to be said here about the fascinating phenomenon of the Trump-suggestible media, which seem to scurry from one Trump-lobbed theme-word to the next without pausing to catch their breath.

    The previous word – “genius” – was only beginning to die down. Then “sh**hole” overtook it like a runaway 18-wheeler barreling down the mountainside on an interstate highway, after those yellow signs warning of certain death flash by.

    Meanwhile, back in what must be the eerie quiet of the offices of POTUS and his top officials, Trump laid down a new marker on Iran. If not for “sh**hole,” “genius,” and the word-of-the-day selections that came before them, the media might have been in a posture to do more about that. But it takes a lot of effort to explain to America what a real genius is, and how actual geniuses talk, and why Trump isn’t one, and how pathetic and wrong it is for him to call himself one.

    • Part of the problems that the Propaganda Media is having with the way PT works is that they don’t really understand the Constitution and the Rule of Law. They also don’t understand letting the Duly Elected Representatives of the People have a say in Government. Look at how the Dems operate when they have control of Congress and the White House. The White House gives an order and after some squabbling Congress does as he orders, PT on the other hand looks at the Constitution and the law and then allows Congress do to what they are suppose to do, then after this is done acts.

      • Remember the Iran Deal was never presented to the Senate for approval, Obama knew he couldn’t get it past the Senate so he signed the deal and said it was binding. The US Constitution (the highest law in the US) says that all foreign treaties must be approved by the Senate. This means that Trump can pull us out of that deal at any time, the fact that he is giving Congress 120 days to strengthen the deal shows that he is bending over backwards to let Congress do the job Obama prevented them from doing.

      VIENNA (Reuters) – The United States is pushing U.N. nuclear inspectors to check military sites in Iran to verify it is not breaching its nuclear deal with world powers. But for this to happen, inspectors must believe such checks are necessary and so far they do not, officials say.

      Last week, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley visited the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which is scrutinizing compliance with the 2015 agreement, as part of a review of the pact by the administration of President Donald Trump. He has called it “the worst deal ever negotiated”.

      After her talks with officials of the U.N. nuclear watchdog, Haley said: “There are… numerous undeclared sites that have not been inspected. That is a problem.” Iran dismissed her demands as “merely a dream”.

      The IAEA has the authority to request access to facilities in Iran, including military ones, if there are new and credible indications of banned nuclear activities there, according to officials from the agency and signatories to the deal.

      But they said Washington has not provided such indications to back up its pressure on the IAEA to make such a request.

  18. Chinese trade with North Korea tanks as sanctions begin to take their toll

    China reported a substantial decrease in trade with North Korea Friday, highlighting the impact of sanctions on the rogue state.

    Bilateral trade between China and North Korea last year dropped 10.5% compared to the figure from the previous year, spokesman for the General Administration of Customs Huang Songping revealed at a press briefing Friday, according to the Associated Press.

    While Chinese exports to North Korea increased in 2017 by 8.3%, imports slumped 33% from the year earlier, Market Watch reports.

    In December, the decrease was even more noticeable, with overall trade between the two countries coming in 50.6% lower than the figure from the previous year. In the final month of 2017, imports dropped 81.6%, while exports fell 23.4%.

    In response to North Korean ballistic missile and nuclear weapons testing, such as the launches of three intercontinental ballistic missiles and the detonation of a staged thermonuclear bomb designed to level cities, the United Nations Security Council has imposed tough sanctions on the rogue regime.

  21. Bangladesh: Millions join largest Muslim gathering Bishwa Ijtema festival in Tongi

    Millions of Muslims arrived in Tongi, Friday, to attend the annual Bishwa Ijtema festival celebrations, the largest Muslim gathering in the world.

    Although the date of the first Bishwa Ijtema festival is not certain, it is alleged that the first such event took place in 1946. The festival takes place annually and is organised by the Tablighi Jamaat of Bangladesh.

    The festival, which is the largest Muslim congregation in the world, followed by the Hajj, is attended by around 5 million devotees each year from more than 150 countries, with the majority coming from across Bangladesh.

    The three-day prayer event culminates with the Final Prayer, the Akheri Munajat, when worshippers raise their hands and pray for world peace.

    • She isn’t making the comparison to Bill Clinton or even mentioning Bill’s sexual assaults and Hillary threatening the victims and trying to destroy those who came forward. Weinstein’s victims saw what was happening in DC and saw the pictures of him hobnobbing with the Clintons and drew the conclusion that coming forward would mean they would be attacked like those. They were right, women who came forward about Weinstein are being fired and blacklisted. This is how the left always works.

  24. BREAKING: Indictment Handed Out In Russian Bribery Case Involving Uranium One, Hillary Clinton

    An 11-count indictment was handed out on Friday connected to the alleged Russian bribery scheme involving former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the Obama administration, and Uranium One.

    The charges are against Mark Lambert, who is the “former co-president of a Maryland-based transportation company that provides services for the transportation of nuclear materials to customers in the United States and abroad.” Lambert 54, of Maryland, was charged with “one count of conspiracy to violate the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and to commit wire fraud, seven counts of violating the FCPA, two counts of wire fraud and one count of international promotion money laundering,” the DOJ said in a statement.

      Once the full dimensions of Hillary’s criminality, conspiracy, and corruption come to light, this sordid mess will offer up such a feast of the senses sensational to where there’s no way in hell that even the most dedicated of Hillary’s erstwhile water-carriers will be able to keep away from such a mouthwatering buffet of muckraking gold.

      The press will need French-trained truffle hunting pigs to dig up all of the lumps of filth that the Clintons have labored to bury in the wake of their massive criminal enterprise.

    In a December 8 Friday sermon delivered in a mosque in the Raleigh North Carolina area, U.S.-based Syrian Imam Abdullah Khadra cited an antisemitic hadith: “The Prophet gave us the glad tidings that at the End of Time, we will fight those Jews until the rocks and the trees will speak: ‘Oh Muslim, this is a Jew behind me’.” He said that “those occupiers made some legends, and they made the [Wall of Buraq] their own wall, and they distorted the facts.”
