A RESPECTED Christian maths teacher at a school in Oxfordshire will appear at a disciplinary hearing on November 15 to answer allegations that he referred to a pupil born female as a “girl”.
Joshua Sutcliffe, from Oxford, began working at the school in September 2015 and currently teaches children aged 11-18. He has achieved excellent results, with his key-stage 3 students outperforming every parallel class.
On November 2, a complaint was made that Joshua referred to the pupil as a “girl”, rather than the desired ‘boy’. The pupil had self-declared as ‘male’. Joshua had not been given any formal instruction on how to refer to the pupil. An investigation began immediately, during which Joshua was prevented from teaching and forced to spend all his time ‘in isolation’ in the staff room.
Following the week-long investigation, the school found that Joshua ‘misgendered’ the pupil, ‘demonstrating discriminatory behaviours’ and ‘[contravened] the school’s equality policy’. The school recommended dealing with the matter of ‘misconduct’ under the disciplinary policy.
Since the pupil started at the school, Joshua has tried to balance his sincerely held Christian belief that biological sex is God-given and defined at birth, with the need to treat sensitively the pupil. He avoided the use of gender-specific pronouns, and instead referred to the pupil by the pupil’s chosen name. Joshua admits saying “Well done girls” when he addressed a group of students including the pupil in question. The pupil became irate at this and Joshua sought to diffuse the situation and apologised.
Whilst working at the school, Joshua also began running a successful Bible club, which was attended by over 100 pupils before being shut down by the school 18 months after its inception. He was initially told by the Headteacher that the Bible club could not run without a register and a curriculum. Yet, after producing the required documents, the Head still insisted on cancelling the club. During this time, the school’s LGBTI, mindfulness club, and Qigong club continued running without a register or curriculum.
Following a grievance meeting initiated by a deputy headteacher, it was found that the Bible club could continue running but only when the school was satisfied that it could be run in such a way that upheld the school’s policies. Determined to comply with the conditions and have the club reinstated, Joshua made numerous attempts over the following five weeks to follow instructions to re-instate the Bible club to be run in a way which upheld the school’s policies. After ignoring the issue over this period, the Head has recently agreed to a meeting where the issues will be discussed.
Responding to the disciplinary process, Joshua commented: “I have been shocked and saddened by the actions of the school, which, in my opinion, reflect an increasing trend of seeing Christians, people like me, being marginalised in the public square, and our beliefs punished and silenced.
“While the suggestion that gender is fluid conflicts sharply with my Christian beliefs, I recognise my responsibility as a teacher and Christian to treat each of my pupils with respect and dignity.
“I have never looked to impose my convictions on others, I just try to earnestly live out the gospel of peace.
“I have balanced these factors by calling the pupil by the chosen name and although I did not intentionally refer to the pupil as a ‘girl’, I do not believe it is unreasonable to call someone a girl if they were born a girl.
“The aggressive way in which transgender ideology is being imposed is undermining my freedom of belief and conscience, as well as the conscience of many people throughout our nation who believe that gender is assigned at birth.
“I have a deep conviction that we are all made in God’s image, male and female.
The case comes just a week after well-known genetics expert, Professor Lord Robert Winston said that transgender people can end up “badly damaged”. In an interview on BBC Radio 4 Today Programme, he said: “What I’ve been seeing in my fertility clinic is the long-term results of often very unhappy people who are now quite badly damaged.”
Professor Gary Barry, a leading expert in care for transgender children said on the same programme that the effect on fertility was “worrying”.
Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre which is supporting the teacher, added:
“This case is one of a flood of cases we are encountering where teachers are finding themselves silenced or punished if they refuse to fall in line with the current transgender fad.
“We all know how much we change during our teenage years. It is vital that during those years we help our children to live in the biological sex they were born rather than encouraging them to change ‘gender’. If we encourage them to change gender it is not kind and compassionate; it is cruel.
“What we need is a culture in our schools which gives emotional support to children through puberty without encouraging them to make life-long decisions against their natural born biological sex.
‘If we collude in the transgender delusion we do not serve our children well, we harm them”.

But Pink Life QueerFest criticised the move, saying it “deprives us of our constitutional rights,” in a statement on their website.
By suggesting the risk of a terror threat, the ban “serves to legitimise the people and institutions who see our existence as a threat and produce hate speech about us”, Pink Life QueerFest said.
The governorate “should not ban such events but ensure they take place in a safe way”, the organisers added.
The ban of the German festival comes at a time of high tension between Berlin and Ankara sparked by the detention of German nationals and what Turkey regards as German meddling in its affairs.

Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, a project manager with the Thomson Reuters Foundation, was sentenced to five years after being convicted by an Iranian court of plotting to overthrow the clerical establishment. She denies the charges.
Britain has sought legal advice over whether it could transfer the funds which it owes as a result of a disputed arms deal in the 1970s. Diplomats told the newspaper that any payment should not be linked to the fate of Zaghari-Ratcliffe.

A spokesman for Britain’s Foreign Office could not be reached for comment out of normal business hours but Senior Whitehall sources have told the Telegraph that the payment is not directly linked to the fate of Zaghari-Ratcliffe and that work has intensified in recent months in a bid to improve relations with Iran.
The Shah’s tanks and vehicles
The Ministry of Defence announced in 2010 that it would return the money which was paid upfront by the former regime of the Shah of Iran for a huge consignment of tanks and support vehicles in the 1970s. After the Shah was overthrown as the Islamic Revolution swept through Iran in 1979, the contract was cancelled, but the British government refused to give the money back.
After a three-decade impasse at the arbitration court of the International Chamber of Commerce, Iran won a ruling in its favour in April 2009.
At the time of the ruling Britain vowed to “comply with UK and international law” but sanctions on Iran meant the money could not be directly transferred at the time.
Britain has yet to repay the money since the easing of sanctions following the Iranian nuclear deal in 2016, and Iranian officials have said they want it to be settled.

Presenting its new report on the subject, Migration Watch UK said Communities Secretary Sajid Javid’s claim that “two thirds of housing demand has nothing to do with immigration; it is to do with natural population growth”, was “entirely false and misleading”.
The minister’s claim was based on the government’s projection that between 2014 and 2049 Britain will need homes for 210,000 new households a year, of which it said 77,000 will be down to immigration, and the remaining 133,000 resulting from future family formation by the existing population.
But the projection “seriously understates the true impact of immigration on housing demand”, according to Migration Watch’s report, which notes that not only does the government model its figures on the assumption that future net migration will be much lower than today, it also ignores the effect of migrants already living in Britain.
“The existing migrant population in England will also be driving future household formation; however, this has been misleadingly designated as ‘natural change’ among the existing UK population as a whole rather than as also due to previous migration,” states the report.

7 cases of Legionnaires’ disease tied to Las Vegas’ Rio hotel
Five months after an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease was reported at the Rio, the number of confirmed cases of the pneumonia-like bacterial illness among guests has risen to seven, with 29 more cases suspected, the Southern Nevada Health District said Tuesday.
Meanwhile, cleaning and testing of the hotel’s water system is continuing to ensure the disease has been eradicated.
That’s a normal timeline for a Legionnaires’ outbreak investigation, health experts say.
“In a situation like this, part of the process of these investigations on an environmental aspect is continued testing and monitoring,” said Robert Cole, the health district’s senior environmental health specialist.

DOZENS of medics treating patients infected by the lethal Black Death plague ravaging Madagascar have been struck down by the deadly disease.
Scientists have warned Madagascar’s health system is at risk of reaching breaking point if the disease continues to spread.
At least 165 people have been killed by the “medieval disease” to date with an estimated 2,000 thought to be infected, according to health officials.

Doctors have issued warnings about a new strain of the airborne disease which “can kill in three hours”, local reports say.

Lebanon’s Hariri to fly to Paris within 48 hours: source close to Hariri
BEIRUT (Reuters) – Lebanon’s Saad al-Hariri is expected to leave Saudi Arabia for France within 48 hours, before flying home to Beirut to officially submit his resignation as Lebanese prime minister, a source close to Hariri told Reuters on Thursday.
Hariri announced his resignation in a televised broadcast from Saudi Arabia on Nov. 4, and has not yet returned to Lebanon. He said on Wednesday he would return soon.
Lebanese President Michel Aoun tweeted on Thursday that he hoped the country’s political crisis was over following Hariri’s acceptance of the French invitation.
“I await the return of PM Hariri to Beirut so we can decide on the situation of the government – if he wants to resign or rescind his resignation,” Aoun said, according to presidential sources.
Aoun has previously said he will not accept Hariri’s resignation until he returns to Beirut to tender it and explain his reasons.

Obama seldom prosecuted criminals who sought to buy guns illegally

More than 100,000 convicted felons or other “prohibited persons” tried to buy guns each year during President Barack Obama’s administration by lying on their applications, but the Justice Department considered prosecuting only about 30 to 40 people each year, according to a Daily Caller News Foundation investigation.
The Obama administration may have publicly aligned itself with anti-gun activists, but it consistently turned a blind eye to prosecuting known criminals who tried to buy guns.
A June 2016 Justice Department Inspector General’s report revealed that between 2008 and 2015 the U.S. Attorneys office considered prosecuting “less [sic] than 32 people per year” for lying on form 4473, the federal application to buy guns.
Surprisingly, the Obama administration’s harshest critics were directed at gun manufacturers themselves.

Awan family got favoritism from Pakistani govt in 2009; claimed ‘intervention’ by Rahm Emanuel

The family of Imran Awan, the now-indicted former IT aide to Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz and other Democrats, was previously accused of fraud in Pakistan involving “huge chunks” of land, but the charges were dropped because “Awan’s son had easy access to the corridors of power,” according to a detailed article in a Pakistani newspaper.
Elderly farmers said Imran’s father ripped them off, but local police dropped charges against Imran’s father and targeted his accusers after alleged pressure from Pakistani national-level politicians, the Sept. 3, 2009, article in Dawn reported. The story was headlined, “Influential expat shields father from long arm of law.”
A Democratic IT aide said Imran told him a similar story in a House cafeteria in 2009 and said Imran claimed he persuaded Rahm Emanuel — the Obama White House chief of staff who employed the Awan family during his days as a congressman — to intervene. The Dawn article refers to Imran as a White House employee.
The dropped charges and alleged punishing of victims raise questions about whether congressional employers pulled in favors, and how an IT aide could have such influence. The Awans had access to the emails of 45 members of Congress.

Three elephants in Connecticut just got a lawyer
Minnie, Beulah and Karen are elephants who for decades have belonged to a family-owned, traveling zoo in Connecticut. Over the years, they’ve also been hired out for appearances in advertisements, movies and weddings.
And on Monday, they got a lawyer, though they did not ask for one. The prominent animal rights attorney Steven Wise filed a writ of habeas corpus petition on behalf of the elephants, arguing that they are “legal persons” with a right to bodily liberty and asking the Connecticut Superior Court to order their release to a sanctuary.
Wise and his legal group, the Nonhuman Rights Project, have unsuccessfully made this argument several times before in New York, where their plaintiffs were chimpanzees. As in those cases, the elephant lawsuit cites a wide body of scientific research establishing the species’s advanced cognitive abilities and complex social lives — evidence of what the legal team says is the elephants’ “autonomy.”

Fink was recently fired as a result of a vindictive leftist administrator, UCLA’s Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, Jerry Kang. The campus chapter of Young Americans for Freedom invited Fink back to campus to deliver this talk. It has been lightly edited for readability.

Thank you, Young Americans for Freedom for having me. It’s always an honor to be on this campus. I’m an alumnus. I love my time at UCLA; I love my students who I had the honor of teaching for 10 years, and anything I can do, as long as I breathe, to help the UCLA students, I will do.
It’s ironic to me that UCLA is holding a Free Speech 101 event this week on the heels of UCLA terminating one of the most popular teachers on campus, and the only teacher that teaches students about the importance of free speech. And UCLA no longer is going to have the two Free Speech classes that had an undergraduate curriculum because they fired me.
If you just take a moment after this lecture to look at what Professor (Greg) Bryant says as to why they had some issues with me as a teacher — Professor (Greg) Bryant said “Fink launched into an analysis of the letter by Dean (Jerry) Kang. Fink had a provocative tone that was unfavorable towards Dean (Jerry) Kang.” Now, why should that be an issue?

In the winter of ’56, Khrushchev told the 20th Congress of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union that Stalin may not have been a very nice guy. In the fall of ’17, the media began to concede that maybe Bill Clinton did abuse a whole bunch of women. And maybe those women weren’t really part of a vast right-wing conspiracy to make a bloated piggish progressive hero seem like he might not be a very nice guy.
Why are Democrats turning on the Clintons? Same reason Khrushchev turned on Stalin. They’re purging the Clintons for the same reasons that they defended them. They’re calling out Bill Clinton for his sexual assaults for the same reasons that they covered them up. It’s about power and money.
The Democrats smeared Bill Clinton’s accusers then. Now they’ll exploit them to throw the Clintons out.
The #MeToo campaign provided an opening. But if you really want to understand why the left is disavowing Bill Clinton, ignore the hashtags and look at the bigger picture.
Earlier this month, the rollout of Donna Brazile’s book raked Hillary Clinton and her campaign over the coals. The former interim DNC boss made the case that the Clinton campaign had rigged the primaries.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) is calling on the Senate Ethics Committee to review allegations that Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.) kissed and groped a woman without her consent in 2006.
“As with all credible allegations of sexual harassment or assault, I believe the Ethics Committee should review the matter. I hope the Democratic Leader will join me on this. Regardless of party, harassment and assault are completely unacceptable — in the workplace or anywhere else,” McConnell said in a statement.

Saudi Arabia accused Lebanon last week of declaring war against it because of acts by Hezbollah, which is both a militant and political organisation represented in Lebanon’s parliament and government.
Jubeir said Hezbollah, which he described as a subsidiary of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard “doing Iran’s bidding”, must disarm for Lebanon to stabilise.
“Wherever we see a problem, we see Hezbollah act as an arm or agent of Iran and this has to come to an end,” he said.
Jubeir said Iran had harboured terrorists, assassinated diplomats and interfered in other countries’ affairs – charges Tehran denies.
“If you want us to deal with you as a good neighbour, act like one. But if you continue to act in an aggressive manner, we will push back,” he said…”

A source in the Houthis said the two had not been kidnapped but ordered confined to a hotel after they were found travelling near combat areas in northern Yemen without permission. The source said they were part of a fact-finding human rights mission.

France: Escalating Muslim Anti-Semitism

In France, any public mention of Muslim anti-Semitism can lead you to court. In February 2017, the scholar Georges Bensoussan was sued for “incitement to racial hatred” because he mentioned in a radio debate how vastly widespread anti-Semitism is among French Muslim families.
Now, however, two types of Muslim anti-Semitism are being highlighted by the media. These two types could be called “hard anti-Semitism” and “soft anti-Semitism”.
Hard Muslim anti-Semitism is the anti-Semitism of murderers. Soft Muslim anti-Semitism is anti-Semitism of “anti-Zionists” and harrassers of various stripes.
The recently concluded trial of terrorist Abdelkader Merah is a clear and pathetic illustration of hard Muslim anti-Semitism. Abdelkader Merah is the brother of Mohamed Merah, a French Muslim extremist who murdered seven people, including three Jewish children and their teacher at a Jewish school, in Toulouse. Mohamed Merah was killed in a shoot-out with police on March 22, 2012. Abdelkader Merah, Mohamed’s brother, was on trial during the past few weeks. He was accused of being a member of a terrorist organization and to have closely monitored his brother during his murder spree. Abdelkader’s trial ended on November 2, 2017; he was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison.

The October 31 terror attack in New York and the arrest of three suspected ISIS militants in Germany are merely reminders of how determined many Islamists are to rattle the foundations of modern civilization and move their plans forward inch by inch.
As ISIS retreats in Syria and Iraq, its adherents show up in the West as “inspired” home-grown or would-be terrorists. Anyone believing that these homecoming terrorists were merely hostages of ISIS or were only given air-guns is misinformed.
So many terrorist attacks this year have made people in the West doubt the ability of governments to counter terrorist aggression. Some political leaders, such as London’s Mayor Sadiq Khan, have said that people will just have to get used to terror attacks — a response the public might understandably find less than satisfactory.
Meanwhile, President Trump’s tweet after the October 31 attack in New York — “We must not allow ISIS to return, or enter, our country after defeating them in the Middle East and elsewhere. Enough!” — resurfaced skepticism about how terrorism is being handled.

The editor of Gay Times has been sacked just weeks after his appointment over a string of offensive and antisemitic tweets – including some aimed at members of the LGBTQ community.
Jews, lesbians, straight women, Egyptians, Asians, Chinese, transgender people, obese people, mothers and bus drivers are among the groups of people that Josh Rivers took aim at between 2010 and 2015.
Within hours of the posts being discovered, Mr Rivers had been suspended by Gay Times, and he subsequently issued a grovelling apology over Twitter.
