“PUBLIC floggings under the shariah-inspired criminal code in the Indonesian province of Aceh have reached more than 500 since October 2015, reported a human rights monitor last week.

Human Rights Watch said that at least 530 people have been caned since the introduction of Aceh’s new, Islamic penal code two years ago. The organisation said punishments were mainly for what it called “victimless crimes” such as non-martial kissing and sexual relations, as well as gambling.

There have also been people whipped for selling alcohol, which is outlawed in the strictly Muslim-majority province. Under Indonesian law, Aceh is the only of the country’s 34 provinces to legally implement bylaws directly from Quranic teachings…”

  8. East Libya air strikes kill at least 15 (middleeasteye, Oct 30, 2017)
    http://www.middleeasteye.net/news/least-15-killed-air-strikes-east-libya-827807884

“At least 15 people including women and children were killed in air strikes on the eastern Libyan city of Derna late on Monday, a medical source and a resident said.

Derna has long been under siege by the eastern-based Libyan National Army (LNA), which has occasionally carried out air strikes against the city. Military officials declined to comment on the strikes.

The attacks on Monday continued for around an hour and hit the Dahr al-Hamar district in Derna’s south and al-Fatayeh, a hilly area about 20km from the city, a resident said.

At least 17 people were wounded, according to the medical source, who said all the victims appeared to be civilians.

Derna is a coastal city about 265km west of the Egyptian border. It is controlled by a coalition of Islamist militants and former rebels from Libya’s 2011 uprising known as the Derna Mujahideen Shura Council (DMSC).

The Islamic State (IS) group established a foothold in Derna in late 2014, but was driven out by the DMSC the following year.

Egypt, which backs the LNA, has also carried out strikes on Derna, including in May when it said it was targeting militants linked to an attack in southern Egypt.”

    http://www.france24.com/en/20171030-usa-captures-suspect-2012-benghazi-libya-attack

“U.S. forces have captured a militant believed to have played a role in a 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, that killed U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, three U.S. officials said on Monday.

The officials, speaking on the condition of anonymity, said that U.S. Special Operation Forces captured the militant in Libya in the past few days.

Two of the officials identified him as Mustafa al Imam and said he had played a role in the attack and the ambassador’s death.

The officials said the man was now in the custody of the Department of Justice and being transported back to the United States by the military.

They added that the operation was authorized by President Donald Trump and had been carried out in coordination with the U.N.-backed Government of National Accord.

In a statement, Trump said al Imam “will face justice in the United States for his alleged role in the September 11, 2012 attacks.”

The appropriate Congressional committees and the families of the Americans killed in the 2012 attack had also been notified, the officials said.

The attack on the embassy was the topic of numerous congressional hearings, with Republican lawmakers critical of the way in which then-secretary of state Hillary Clinton responded to the attack.

Earlier this month, U.S. prosecutors opened their case against the suspected ringleader, Ahmed Abu Khatallah.

Khatallah had been awaiting trial since 2014, when he was captured by a team of U.S. military and FBI officials in Libya and transported on a 13-day journey to the United States aboard a Navy vessel.”

  12. Mueller team won battle to force testimony from lawyer for Manafort and Gates

Judge concluded there was substantial evidence attorney was duped into relaying falsehoods to Justice Department.

Prosecutors convinced a federal judge to require a lawyer for Trump campaign officials Paul Manafort and Rick Gates to testify before the grand jury investigating Russian involvement in the 2016 election, a court ruling unsealed on Monday showed.

The unusual move is an indication of the aggressiveness of special counsel Robert Mueller’s prosecution team as they prepared to indict Manafort and Gates on charges of money laundering and failing to

  14. The Manafort Indictment: Not Much There, and a Boon for Trump

Do not be fooled by the “Conspiracy against the United States” heading.

The Paul Manafort indictment is much ado about nothing . . . except as a vehicle to squeeze Manafort, which is special counsel Robert Mueller’s objective — as we have been arguing for three months (see here, here, and here).

Do not be fooled by the “Conspiracy against the United States” heading on Count One (page 23 of the indictment). This case has nothing to do with what Democrats and the media call “the attack on our democracy” (i.e., the Kremlin’s meddling in the 2016 election, supposedly in “collusion” with the Trump campaign). Essentially, Manafort and his associate, Richard W. Gates, are charged with (a) conspiring to conceal from the U.S. government about $75 million they made as unregistered foreign agents for Ukraine, years before the 2016 election (mainly, from 2006 through 2014), and (b) a money-laundering conspiracy.

  15. Did Mueller’s Team Violate Manafort’s Constitutional Rights? They May Have.

Ex-campaign adviser Paul Manafort turned himself in Monday after being indicted for money laundering, and a slew of other financial crimes. The feds alleged he illegally funneled millions of dollars of payments into offshore bank accounts in order to avoid detection by U.S. authorities as it related to his work on behalf of former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. While the indictment containing Manfort’s alleged criminal activities is very detailed, and well-documented, there is one area that could hurt Mueller’s investigation. Mueller’s team may have obtained evidence in the raid of Paul Manafort’s home that was not covered by the search warrant. That could be problematic.

In a surprise raid on July 26th, FBI agents busted into Manafort’s home in Alexandria, Virginia to collect documents and other materials related to the FBI probe into whether the Trump campaign colluded with the Russians. At the time, Manafort’s attorney raised concerns about how the raid was conducted. In order for the feds to obtain a warrant, a federal judge would have to determine that probable cause existed that a crime was committed. As part of the warrant, investigators attached an affidavit which contained a list of items that FBI agents hoped to collect. That’s where the trouble appears to be in Manafort’s case.

  16. From Cancun to Los Cabos, tourists scared off Mexico’s beaches

In the spring break capital of Cancun, Mexico, hotel occupancy has tumbled 10 percent this year. As bad as that is, over in Los Cabos, on the tip of the Baja California peninsula, it’s worse.

The airport serving Cabo San Lucas and its lesser-known sister city, San Jose del Cabo, is looking emptier these days. And hotel guests have canceled 35,000 nights of bookings over the next year – collectively a decade’s worth of visits for a single traveler.

At a time when the weaker peso should be luring American travelers in droves, many are staying away, spooked by a wave of violence that’s come dangerously close to tourist hot spots. Gunmen opened fire at a Cancun nightclub in November, and a cooler with two human heads was found on Cabo San Lucas’s main hotel strip in June.

  18. Black Death MAPPED: ‘global outbreak’ warning as NINE new countries place on high alert
HEALTH chiefs are scrambling to contain a Black Death outbreak after plague warnings were issued for nine countries across south-east Africa.

The latest outbreak, which took root in Madagascar, has now killed 124 people and infected around 1,300, but scientists say this figure will definitely rise.

South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Comoros, the Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion have all been placed on high alert by World Health Organisation (WHO) monitors.

Experts say the deadly disease is caused by the same bacteria that wiped out 25 million people in Europe in the 13th and 14th centuries.

And WHO officials, who have been working with Madagascar’s Ministry of Health, warn the risk of the epidemic spreading is “high”.

Plague – a terrifying bacterial infection transmitted by fleas – is nothing new in Madagascar, where about 600 cases are reported annually.

  19. SA wary of plague threat

Durban – South African health authorities are on alert for possible imported cases of the plague. This, as almost 1 300 suspected cases have been reported in Madagascar.

It was confirmed that there were no cases in South Africa at a press briefing with the Department of Health and the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Tuesday.

But, with Madagascar – where 93 people have died from the plague – being just one direct flight away, authorities are on their guard.

Travellers coming in from the island are screened on arrival for fever or cough, read an NICD statement. “Any ill passenger will be assessed in the airport clinic.”

Madagascar is also screening all travellers leaving the country to prevent ill persons from boarding aircraft and this appears to have been effective thus far.

It happened on the day of the Baltimore Marathon, Oct. 21. The event brought a big crowd to the harbor that night. The 10 family members, from grandparents to grandchildren, were walking by the H&M store when they were overwhelmed.

  21. Great America Increases Security After Chaotic Night Of Teen Fights
October 29, 2017 11:40 PM By Joe Vazquez

ANTA CLARA (KPIX 5) — Security at California’s Great America was beefed up Sunday evening, the night after as many as 100 teens got into fights and allegedly stole cell phones at the amusement park’s haunted house attraction.

The disturbances happened at Great America’s Halloween Haunt, the annual haunted house set up on the park for the holiday.

Park patron Noe Bracamontes posted video of the fight on Snapchat live Saturday evening. At first, two girls can be seen throwing punches. Then a zapping sound is heard.

Bracamontes is pretty sure it was a Taser.

“We heard it and I was like, ‘Is that what I think it is?’ She just started like, Tasing the girl. Almost like stabbing her in a way,” said Bracamontes. “It was chaotic. It was hectic.”

  24. China has practiced bombing runs targeting Guam, US says

JOINT BASE PEARL HARBOR-HICKAM, Hawaii — China has practiced bombing runs targeting the U.S. territory of Guam, one of a host of activities making U.S. forces here consider Beijing the most worrisome potential threat in the Pacific, even as North Korea pursues a nuclear warhead.

Beyond the well-publicized military build up on man-made islands in the South China Sea, China has built up its fleet of fighters to the extent that it operates a daily, aggressive campaign to contest airspace over the East China Sea, South China Sea and beyond, U.S. military officials in the region said. China has also taken several other non-military steps that are viewed as attempts to make it much more difficult for the U.S. to operate there and defend allies in the future.

The officials described the escalatory behaviors by China in a briefing they provided to reporters traveling with Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford.

The officials said despite increased threats by North Korea as it pursues its nuclear weapons program, a conflict with North Korea is still viewed as “a fight we can win,” they said. With China, they said they “worry about the way things are going.”

HONG KONG/BEIJING (Reuters) – China has quietly undertaken more construction and reclamation in the South China Sea, recent satellite images show, and is likely to more powerfully reassert its claims over the waterway soon, regional diplomats and military officers say.

With global attention focused on North Korea and Beijing engrossed in its Party Congress, tensions in the South China Sea have slipped from the headlines in recent months.

But with none of the underlying disputes resolved and new images reviewed by Reuters showing China continuing to develop facilities on North and Tree islands in the contested Paracel islands, experts say the vital trade route remains a global flashpoint.

Catalonia’s ousted president has traveled to Brussels and been offered asylum, Spanish authorities said Monday soon after indicating that prosecutors were filing charges against him and other regional leaders related to their declaration of independence last week.

Spanish prosecutors in Madrid said they were asking judges for rebellion, sedition and embezzlement charges against Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont and others who were dismissed by Spain’s central government.

Puigdemont and a majority of Catalonia’s parliament declared independence Friday, but the Spanish government then fired them under a special constitutional provision and called new regional elections Dec. 21.

  29. Ousted Catalan leader accepts new election, says ‘long road’ to independence

BRUSSELS/MADRID (Reuters) – Catalonia’s ousted leader Carles Puigdemont on Tuesday accepted the snap election called by Spain’s central government when it took control of the region to block its push for independence.

Puigdemont, speaking at a news conference in Brussels, also said he was not seeking asylum in Belgium after Spain’s state prosecutor recommended charges for rebellion and sedition be brought against him. He would return to Catalonia when given “guarantees” by the Spanish government, he said.

Puigdemont’s announcement that he would accept the regional election on Dec. 21 signaled that the Madrid government had for now at least gained the upper hand in the protracted struggle over Catalonia, a wealthy northeastern region that already had considerable autonomy.

Resistance to Madrid’s imposition of direct control on Catalonia failed to materialize at the start of the week and the secessionist leadership is in disarray.

  30. China, South Korea agree to mend ties after THAAD standoff

SEOUL/BEIJING (Reuters) – Seoul and Beijing on Tuesday agreed to move beyond a year-long stand-off over the deployment of a U.S. anti-missile system in South Korea, a dispute that has been devastating to South Korean businesses that rely on Chinese consumers.

The unexpected detente comes just days before U.S. President Donald Trump begins a trip to Asia, where the North Korean nuclear crisis will take center stage, and helped propel South Korean stocks to a record high.

The installation of the U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system had angered China, with South Korea’s tourism, cosmetics and entertainment industries bearing the brunt of a Chinese backlash, although Beijing has never specifically linked that to the THAAD deployment.

Beijing worries the THAAD system’s powerful radar can penetrate into Chinese territory.

  32. Why everyone should want the Mueller probe shut down immediately
    By J.E. Dyer October 31, 2017

Ordinarily, I would tend to agree with those – like Rep. Trey Gowdy ?
    83%
, for example – who urge continuing to suffer the special counsel investigation because, as they see it, doing so allows the familiar processes of law to work.

But today is a good day to pull up short, and recognize that the familiar processes of law are not at work.

That’s the inherent problem with a special counsel. And in the present case, the problem is compounded, because there was never a potential underlying “crime” to begin with.

It isn’t a crime to talk to Russians. That’s why no one targeted by the investigation who has indisputably talked to Russians has been indicted for it. Because it isn’t a crime.

It doesn’t matter if you find out that it happened. You also have to somehow demonstrate that it led to something else, and specifically, something that’s bad.

    • She makes a lot of good points although I question the idea of blanket pardons for everyone that would include the treason by those involved in the Uranium One deal.

    • She is thinking getting the information out before the people to keep them well informed. I am thinking the rule of law, if there are no arrests, convictions and prison time for the criminals from the Obama administration and the Clinton Crime Family the rule of law will be destroyed in the US.

  33. USA: Cernovich gives speech at Columbia University while protest rages outside

Mike Cernovich, an alt-right social media personality, was invited to give a speech at a conference on “alternative media” at Columbia University, New York City, by the Republican Student Association on Monday.

Cernovich used the opportunity to voice his support for Trump and launch into a crusade against African-Americans and the media outlets such as CNN, which he referred to as “fake news.”

“Right in this room we have people who want to commit genocide against white people,” Cernovich told those gathered, many of whom were protesters.

  35. What did Dems know about dossier? Their handling of Imran Awan affair could be instructive
By LU Staff October 30, 2017

Rep. Keith Ellison, deputy chair of the Democratic National Committee, said he was unaware of the DNC’s role in funding the Trump dossier, repeating claims from former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and sources close to Hillary Clinton. The denial is reminiscent of Ellison’s claims to have not heard of Democratic IT aide Imran Awan, despite being repeatedly informed of the major investigation involving him.

In both the Awan and dossier affairs, Democratic leaders have said they did not have knowledge of major events that greatly concern them. Investigators contend that Imran Awan and his family members made unauthorized access to House servers thousands of times and funneled massive amounts of data off the network shortly before the 2016 presidential election. The Awans could potentially read the data of one in five House Democrats.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi professed a lack of familiarity with the Awan investigation despite playing an important role in the handling of the case months ago as one of the House leaders who determined it warranted a criminal probe. Pelosi was one of “the leadership [who] agreed to refer the probe to Capitol Police and the FBI” in October 2016 after the House inspector general said the Awans “could be reading and/or removing information,” The Washington Post reported.

  36. CBS’ Shameful Infomercial for Qatar’s Tyrant
    October 31, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

he media talks a good game when it comes to President Trump. Meanwhile its lefties remain deeply in love with actual tyrants.

Qatar has been spreading a lot of money around America. I certainly hope that CBS and Charlie Rose got paid for the infomercial they did for Qatar. It would be pathetic if they did it for free.

I’ll skip over Charlie Rose’s softball questions for the Emir of the international state sponsor of terror. I didn’t expect Charlie to ask the Emir any actual detailed questions about Qatar’s links to Islamist terrorists or its slave labor. Instead Charlie served up, “They say” softballs for the Emir to bat down.

But it’s the florid writing around it that’s truly striking. In the worst possible way.

  37. Brooklyn College SJP President Lists “Jews”, “White People” as Top 10 Hates

Students for Justice in Palestine has often been accused of being a racist hate group. Its usual defense is that it’s not anti-Semitic, it’s just anti-Zionist. Except that its leaders have a history of spouting hate.

Brooklyn College has had major issues with anti-Semitism due to the activity of hate groups such as SJP. The David Horowitz Freedom Center listed Brooklyn College at the top of its list of pro-terror schools. In response, Brooklyn College claimed to stand against hate.

But as Canary Mission points out, hate heads the SJP.

Ayah Aly is the 2017 president of Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP). And she has top 10 things she hates.

  38. Tensions High As Israel Destroys Palestinian Terror Tunnel
IDF deploys the Iron Dome and places troops on alert.

At least seven Palestinian terrorists were killed and 12 injured hours ago after the Israeli Army discovered a terror tunnel that extended from Gaza into Israeli territory. According to Israel’s Channel 2, eleven terrorists were killed. Most of the terrorists belonged to the Islamic Jihad group but some were affiliated with Hamas.

According to Palestinian sources, the tunnel was destroyed with an airstrike. Israeli sources, which are generally more reliable, claim that it was destroyed with a controlled explosion. Israel’s combat engineering units train incessantly for such scenarios and have played a key role in detecting and destroying terror tunnels. In the past two years, several Palestinian-constructed tunnels have mysteriously and inexplicably collapsed, killing dozens of terror operatives trapped inside. Palestinians have accused Israel of deploying a new weapon and the Israelis have not denied the existence of such a top-secret device.

Israel believes that the tunnel was constructed after Operation Protective Edge, which took place in 2014. Palestinians have attempted to employ tunnels as an offensive strategic weapon for the purpose of infiltrating Israeli territory and perpetrating mass killings and kidnappings. However, at least three dozen of these tunnels were destroyed during Operation Protective Edge, thwarting Hamas’s ghoulish designs. Hamas terrorists have invested substantial sums in creating a network of tunnels that crisscross the Gaza Strip. They have also diverted cement and steel, designated for civilian use, to construct tunnels.

    • A lot of people are afraid of a Convention of the States, they are afraid that the Constitution will be totally rewritten. Before anything voted out of the Convention must be approved by 3/4th of the States (38 states) have to approve the amendments before they become part of the Constitution. Does anyone think that 38 state legislatures are going to strip our rights from us?

This Convention of the States is the last ditch effort to reign in the run away Federal Government. Some people who haven’t read the Constitution are saying that the States can do this by nullification but nullification isn’t part of the Constitution. State nullification of Federal Laws doesn’t exist as a legal concept. There is no section of the Constitution that allows this to happen. The only way nuyllification can happen is if the Constitution is amended to put it in, just as there is no way the States can reverse the decisions by activist Judges unless this is put in the Constitution by an Amendment.

We either amend the Constitution to limit the power of the Federal Government or we know that even if we destroy the Deep State it will regrow and seize power in the future. We take a chance with a Convention of the States or we rest assured that in the future all of our rights will disappear because we didn’t take the chance to limit the power of the Federal Government, including the Federal Judges.
