  1. GERMAN PSYCHIATRIST: MIGRANTS BRING HUGE POTENTIAL FOR VIOLENCE AND HAVE DIFFERENT VALUES. IT IS A TIME BOMB

On 18 September, German Public Broadcaster ZDF showed an interview by Peter Hahne. It posited the idea that Germany has been living in fear for quite some time and asks the questions:

“Is that right? Are we Germans fearful in our own country for violence, terrorism and war? Or is this mood promoted, exaggerated by the media? What is the truth about ‘German angst’?“

On the ZDF website, the interview is introduced by noting increased crime in German cities, the growth in the number of terrorist attacks in Europe, assaults by immigrants against unreproachable citizens, the threat of climate change. So, the program asks, what is happening in the world, in Europe, in Germany? Is it really all that dangerous? Should we fear? Or is it a conspiracy

“to make people live in fear and coerce them into a certain direction?“
What to make of the emotional state of the Germans? Is the fear genuine, or constructed? Can it be fought with arguments, proof and ‘fact-checks’? These are the questions Peter Hahne discussed with his guests.

His first guest is Ulricht Reitz, who replaced Jörg Quoos as Chief Editor of Focus in 2014.

By means of introduction, a quote from an editorial in newspaper Derwesten from 2010 is given:

“‘We want to be free in Germany and live without fear – no terrorist threat will deter us.’ A strong sentence by the Chancellor. But it is a false one. One is reminded of childhood, shouting as loudly as possible in a dark cellar:’I am not afraid.’“

The second guest is psychiatrist Christian Peter Dogs. He states that:

“Fear, in a positive way, makes life into an adventure. He who knows no fear doesn’t live long and not intensive.“
The remarkable section of the conversation displayed above, unfolded as follows:

Reitz: “We can’t seem to manage to integrate refugees. There is a pressure on the various levels of government, that keeps growing, when one was to warn of this two years ago, that this was going to happen, one would have been truly stigmatised, because nobody wanted to hear it. But it was predictable. Those people, they have a regular, working pair of brains, they knew this was going to happen. When you let in a lot of people, that come from a culture that is hard to integrate, with a religion that is at least unsavoury, that will give problems, big problems. And from the top, from the political elite the signal is given, we can manage that and at the bottom they have to solve it. But they can’t solve it.”

Hahne: “Yes, yes, and then young men are coming from war zones, backed up by their religion.”

Dogs: “Yes, and then we are confronted by the dangerous phenomenon that nobody wants to see, that someone’s personality is completely formed around twelve, or around twenty years old at the latest and is very difficult, even impossible to change. Which means that with those young men, an enormous potential for violence is introduced, that is controlled by a completely different set of values, and that’s a time bomb that we have let in, because not only do they not understand our values, we can’t even teach them to them. And even if we could, you can’t achieve much by asking them a few questions during refugee therapy, we’ll just have to accept that.”

Hahne: “I had Claudia Roth here as a guest, she said ‘we make everything integration, with courses etc.’ and that’s just naïve?”

    Reitz: “Yes, without a doubt.”

Dogs: “Integration is impossible in a lot of cases. You can learn the language. But you teach them to become a member of the culture, or learn a certain religious sensibility, or integrate the conviction and least of all the potential for violence. We’re talking about people that have an innate potential for violence, because they have grown up in war. They have learned to fight, they don’t know how to do harmony and to believe you can train them in that is madness.”

  2. After 1990 the porn biz flourished in eastern Europe. Young women were easy to get not because they were more slutty but because socialism had bankrupted countries, demoralized populations, and generally thrown everyone down a shithole they had to crawl out of. They were desperate. At least the old people had seen what life could be like before the commies took over. Under Soviet occupation at least a whole generation was crippled by ignorance, or alcoholism, or reliance upon deceitful commie tactics such as character assassination when they didn’t get their own way.

God forbid the U.S. falls prey to this. This business of virtue signalling without virtue (take a knee? Take a pill.) must be nipped in the bud. Vacuous heads and half-baked morality are tearing us apart. And I mean us, southern friends, because you must know we are in lockstep with your shadow.

Canada had a gun culture once, too It wasn’t enshrined in its constitution as it is in the U.S., but it did exist. My grandfather and uncles all had rifles, shotguns, pistols, even old machine guns from The Big One. The country was armed and MORALIZED. People were not constantly browbeating eachother over right and wrong. You stood for your flag and you shut up when your anthem was played. What was there to argue? You lived in the best country. It was armed and moralized and decent. Weapons in the absence of violence was a proof, of sorts.

Immigration for its own sake didn’t exist. The question at the border was, “What can you do for us?” Now Trudeau kisses every arse he can get his lips on except arses that know math, science, or other useful things. Strangely, hearing a cab driver Intelligence Signal by saying he INTENDS to be an engineer does not an engineer make. Same goes for every donair-stuffing wannabe tard doctor. Give me a break. Maybe if uncle Omar hadn’t stuffed so much tender lovin’ into yo’ momma you’d have more brains than the flat bread you’re stuffing for a living, stupido.

How about other forms of “signalling” while we’re coming clean? My mother would have called it being a liar rather than this tedious new term.

Affluence signalling for the male gold chains and bank-owned Porche crowd. Artist/sensitive signalling for the soul patch man bun crowd. Adventurer/man of the world signalling for the young man with big stupid beard crowd (AKA Most Interesting Man In the World), I’m a Unique and Terribly Interesting Individual signalling with my tattoos and face piercings crowd, and I Don’t Really Know What the Fuck I Am signalling with a half-shaved head, blue-streaked hair dyed, overweight and jack-boots But I’m a Serious Lesbian crowd. On and on and without substance.

    Exhausting, vapid bullshitters all.

He also told worshippers: “We will sort you out. I have friends. I’ll be back tomorrow. We will wipe you out.”

Mr Stroh, who works in property management, said: “He just wanted to cause terror and scare people and he was ready to attack people. If it was not for us and the security he would have attacked someone.”

He added: “I was very, very scared for myself and the whole community.”…….

A National Security Agency contractor accused of leaking a classified report on Russian hacking aimed at the 2016 election told FBI agents she smuggled the document out of a high security intelligence facility in her pantyhose.

That and other details appear in a transcript federal prosecutors filed in court Wednesday detailing the interrogation of 25-year-old linguist Reality Winner by the FBI as they carried out a search warrant at her home in June.

  6. Why didn’t TV networks show angry, booing NFL fans Sunday or Monday?

With President Donald Trump’s attacks against protesting NFL players still reverberating, the league’s TV partners decided to air live coverage of the national anthem before Week 3 games. Those partners left out a key element of the coverage: crowd shots of angry fans.

Networks typically do not televise the national anthem except for the Super Bowl and other special occasions, but they recognized there would be intense viewer interest this past weekend.

  7. FBI Director: Terrorist Drones ‘Coming Here Imminently’ [VIDEO]
    Photo of Chuck Ross
    Chuck Ross

FBI Director Christopher Wray warned Congress on Wednesday that terrorist groups are looking to use drones to wage attacks in the U.S.

“I think we do know that terrorist organizations have an interest in using drones,” Wray testified in a hearing for the Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee.

“We’ve seen that overseas already with growing frequency. I think the expectation is that it’s coming here imminently. I think they are relatively easy to acquire, relatively easy to operate, and quite difficult to disrupt and monitor,” Wray added.

    http://dailycaller.com/2017/09/27/fbi-director-terrorist-drones-coming-here-imminently-video/

    • Speaking of drones, if we actually do develop a DE weapon against them, I assume it will take a finite time of attack (Time * Power = watt-hours) to destroy them. What if you program a sequence of high-G maneuvers to take advantage of the necessity of a relatively small area of the laser beam in order to develop sufficient power density to destroy the drone? You could have a 100% reliable attack sensor like a thermal cutout used on an electronic component to sense overheating. Such cutouts reset themselves once they cool down. By doing so, you know your drone is under attack and from what direction, and hence, using a computer, could design a series of preplanned anti-DEW moves that could be varied depending on altitude and velocity.

  8. Mystery Surrounds Metal Towers Popping Up In Tunnels & Bridges

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Mysterious metal towers are popping up at local tunnels, and soon they’ll start appearing at bridges, too.

But even people on the MTA board in charge of the towers can’t say why they’re being used or what’s in them, CBS2’s Dave Carlin reports.
    ADVERTISING

Jose Lugo said the tall metal towers quickly appeared up after the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel tolls booths came down.

“We don’t really know what’s the purpose of this,” he told Carlin.

It’s a $100 million MTA project shrouded in secrecy, with 18 of them for tunnels and bridges. So what are they exactly?

The MTA’s man in charge of the bridges and tunnels, Cedrick Fulton, dodged Carlin’s questions Wednesday.

WASHINGTON — Urgent new orders went out earlier this month for United States Navy warships that have been plagued by deadly mishaps this year.

More sleep and no more 100-hour workweeks for sailors. Ships steaming in crowded waters like those near Singapore and Tokyo will now broadcast their positions as do other vessels. And ships whose crews lack basic seamanship certification will probably stay in port until the problems are fixed.

All seemingly obvious standards, military officials say, except that the Navy only now is rushing the remedies into effect after two collisions in two months left 17 sailors dead, despite repeated warnings about the looming problems from congressional watchdogs and the Navy’s own experts dating to 2010.

Many have queued overnight, waiting patiently for the Simón Bolívar International bridge to open. Some 25,000 people cross the bridge into Colombia every day.

Venezuela is suffering from acute shortages of medicines, hospitals struggle to treat patients and staple goods have become scarce and unaffordable to many.

  11. South Korea expects more provocative acts by North Korea in mid-October

SEOUL (Reuters) – South Korea expects more provocative acts by North Korea next month, to coincide with the anniversary of the founding of the North Korean communist party and China’s all-important Communist Party Congress.

During a meeting with President Moon Jae-in on Thursday, national security adviser Chung Eui-yong said he expected Pyongyang to act around Oct. 10 and 18, but gave no details.

The South Korean security adviser’s report also pointed to the risk that a military conflict could by sparked by “accidental incidents,” said Park Wan-ju, a lawmaker and head spokesman of the ruling Democratic Party.

“The president said the United States speaks of military and diplomatic options, but South Korea can’t go through war again,” said Park.

Tension on the Korean peninsula has risen in recent weeks as North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un and U.S. President Donald Trump exchanged war-like threats and insults over the North’s nuclear and missile development program.

      • South Korea ought to stfu.
These mewling sounds don’t help grown-ups negotiate.

        Too right, yucki!

After decades of counterproductive appeasement policies, South Korea has essentially abdicated its role as any sort of meaningful player in dealing with North Korea.

It’s time for Seoul to step aside and let the big boys do the job. While the Sorks have the most to lose, they have perpetuated this crisis through inaction (much like the past three-or-more American administrations) to where this threat has expanded well beyond the Korean Peninsula.

It is this growing danger that now sees the millions of potential South Korean casualties fade into insignificance. Had Seoul protested more loudly against America’s own previously flaccid “diplomatic” efforts, they might have some measure of warranted outrage.

Instead, the festering Nork carbuncle must be lanced and, mysteriously, nobody but the USA appears to have any interest in excising this gangrenous excrescence.

  12. Chelsea Clinton’s ‘best friend’ got $11 million in defense contracts but has no security clearance
By LU Staff September 28, 2017

A company whose president is “best friends” with former first daughter Chelsea Clinton received more than $11 million in contracts over the last decade from a highly secretive Defense Department think tank, but to date the group lacks official federal approval to handle classified materials, according to sensitive documents TheDCNF was allowed to view.

Jacqueline Newmyer, the president of a company called the Long Term Strategy Group (LTSG), has over the past ten years received numerous Department of Defense (DOD) contracts from a secretive think tank called Office of Net Assessment (ONA).

ONA is so sensitive, the specialized think tank is housed in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and it reports directly to the Secretary.

To date, LTSG has received $11.2 million in contracts, according to USAspending, gov, a government database of federal contracts.

Yet so many Americans remain mystified as to how a total political outsider like Trump got elected. If DJT is able to effect meaningful prosecution of the Clinton Mafia, it would cement his political street creds. Any failure to do so could, just as easily, make him into a one term trick pony like Bush 1.0.

  13. Communist West Point grad was inspired to infiltrate military by Chelsea Manning
By LU Staff September 27, 2017

[This is the guy LU contributor Joe Newby wrote about after he expressed support for the NFL knee-takers, claiming that “Communism will win.” – Ed.]

Army Pvt. Chelsea Manning, who was sentenced to prison for leaking classified documents and subsequently freed by President Barack Obama, inspired West Point graduate and communist Spenser Rapone to infiltrate the military.

Rapone has come under fire and become the subject of an Army investigation after reports emerged of his open and unabashed support for communism and tweets he made calling for political violence and referring to Secretary of Defense James Mattis as an “evil, vile f***.”

In a Reddit post regarding Manning, Rapone spelled out some of his motivations for remaining in the military and exactly what he wanted to accomplish while serving as a second lieutenant in the 2nd Combat Brigade Team, 10th Mountain Division. Those motivations included Manning’s decision to leak national security documents to WikiLeaks.

Notably, Manning was also part of the 10th Mountain Division.

  14. Lingerie football league: We stand for the anthem
By Cade Pelerine September 27, 2017

It may get a little harder for the NFL to continue justifying its sort of sideways pro-kneeling policy.

Besides the blowback from fans and the sharp criticism from President Trump, the NFL is now being shown up by the women’s “lingerie football league.”

The women’s league changed its name a few years ago to the Legends Football League, but it still plays in bikini-style uniforms (along with helmets and pads). And it announced this week that its league policy would be standing for the national anthem, period.

The Washington Free Beacon quotes the LFL (video below):

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has suggested that Ankara could free a detained US pastor if Washington extradites Muslim cleric Fethullah Gulen, who Turkey accuses of being behind last year’s failed coup attempt.

“‘Give us the pastor back,’ they say. You have one pastor as well. Give him (Gulen) to us,” Erdogan said during a speech to police officers at the presidential palace in Ankara.

“Then we will try him and give him to you.

“The (pastor) we have is on trial. Yours is not – he is living in Pennsylvania. You can give him easily. You can give him right away.”

The US pastor referred to by Erdogan is Andrew Brunson, who was detained in Turkey on terrorism charges last October.

According to Turkish media, Brunson’s charges include being part of Gulen’s network. However, the US says the pastor has been wrongfully imprisoned and has called for his release.

President Donald Trump asked Ankara to return Brunson to the US in May, according to the White House.

Gulen, a former ally of Erdogan, and his supporters are accused of orchestrating the failed coup attempt in July 2016. However, the cleric has denied any role in the events, which led to the deaths of 250 people.

In August 2016, President Erdogan issued an ultimatum to the US, saying it must choose between Turkey and the US-based Turkish cleric…”

  21. Chinese Police Order Xinjiang’s Muslims to Hand in All Copies of The Quran

Chinese authorities in the northwestern region of Xinjiang have ordered ethnic minority Muslim families to hand in religious items including prayer mats and copies of the quran to the authorities, RFA has learned.

Officials across Xinjiang have been warning neighborhoods and mosques that ethnic minority Uyghur, Kazakh and Kyrgyz Muslims must hand in the items or face harsh punishment if they are found later, sources in the region said.

“Officials at village, township and county level are confiscating all qurans and the special mats used for namaaz [prayer],” a Kazakh source in Altay prefecture, near the border with Kazakhstan told RFA on Wednesday.

“Pretty much every household has a quran, and prayer mats,” he said.

Dilxat Raxit, spokesman for the exile World Uyghur Congress group, said reports have emerged from Kashgar, Hotan and other regions of similar practices starting last week.

“We received a notification saying that every single ethnic Uyghur must hand in any Islam-related items from their own home, including qurans, prayers and anything else bearing the symbols of religion,” Raxit said.

“They have to be handed in voluntarily. If they aren’t handed in, and they are found, then there will be harsh punishments,” he said.

Raxit said announcements are being made by the police via popular social media platform WeChat.

“All qurans and related items must be handed into the authorities, and there are notices to this effect being broadcast via WeChat,” Raxit said.

“The announcements say that people must hand in any prayer mats of their own accord to the authorities, as well as any religious reading matter, including anything with the Islamic moon and star symbol on it,” he said.

“They are requiring people to hand in these items of their own accord,” he said.

    ‘Three Illegals’

Earlier this year, Xinjiang authorities began confiscating all qurans published more than five years ago due to “extremist content,” according to local officials, amid an ongoing campaign against “illegal” religious items owned by mostly Muslim ethnic Uyghur residents.

The qurans were appropriated as part of the “Three Illegals and One Item” campaign underway in Xinjiang that bans “illegal” publicity materials, religious activities, and religious teaching, as well as items deemed by authorities to be tools of terrorism—including knives, flammable objects, remote-controlled toys, and objects sporting symbols related to Islam, they said.

The Kazakh source said that earlier directives calling for the confiscation of qurans and other religious items hadn’t been effective, and so the authorities are now stepping up the pressure and placing the onus on individual households to hand them in under a compulsory program.

He said confiscation drives targeting Uyghurs are now also being extended to the country’s ethnic Kazakh population.

At the same time, any products from neighboring Kazakhstan or bearing the Kazakh language or symbols have also been outlawed, sources said.

A leaked police notice from Changji prefecture called on local officials to search for any items bearing any writing or symbols linked to Kazakhstan.

“Any items bearing writing or any other traces of Kazakhstan, including street signs or graffiti, store decorations, arts and crafts items, T-shirts and so on, must immediately be investigated … and a detailed report made to higher authorities by Sept. 25,” the notice, dated Sept. 22, it said.

    Products from Kazakhstan

A second Kazakh source said authorities are also searching for and confiscating any products brought from Kazakhstan.

“There are restrictions on the sale of any products and foodstuffs from Kazakhstan, including noodles, organic products and mare’s milk spirit,” the source said. “They won’t let you sell things brought over from Kazakhstan.”

An official who answered the phone at the Altay police department on Wednesday hung up when asked to comment on the reports.

Chinese authorities have lately issued orders for ethnic Kazakh Chinese nationals to hand in their passports and Kazakh green cards in some parts of Xinjiang, and have reportedly detained dozens of Kazakhs returning from overseas study or family visits to Kazakhstan, sending them for indefinite terms in “re-education” facilities, sources have told RFA.

Official figures show that there are around 1.5 million Kazakhs in China, mostly concentrated in and around the Ili Kazakh Autonomous Prefecture close to the Kazakhstan border.

China has previously welcomed Kazakhs who wished to relocate from Kazakhstan, with their numbers peaking at nearly 38,000 in 2006. But now many Kazakhs with Chinese nationality are heading back in the other direction.

    • Chinese authorities in the northwestern region of Xinjiang have ordered ethnic minority Muslim families to hand in religious items including prayer mats and copies of the quran to the authorities, RFA has learned.

Fecking priceless!!! Let’s see if this far-more-harsh restriction of Muslim worship gets a tiny fraction of the notoriety and vociferous protestations about Rohingya oppression.

Corporate-controlled Western media will likely be much less inclined to criticize the Chinese elements of American Capitalists, as opposed to squealing about a remote bunch of minority Islamic terrorists in some remote Southeast Asian country.

  23. Another Left-Wing Fascist Movement on the Rise
RAM informs us that slavery in America never actually ended.
    September 28, 2017
    Discover The Networks

Formed in May 2017 and based in New York City, the Revolutionary Abolitionist Movement (RAM) is a contingent of the Marxist/anarchist Antifa movement which has made many headlines this year with its violent, bloody attacks against conservatives from coast to coast. RAM’s self-described “revolutionary anarchists” are committed to waging “armed” warfare against American “fascism” ? the term that RAM employs as a synonym for conservatism. Rooted in what it calls “the context of the abolitionist struggle against slavery” ? and “dedicated to freeing people from bondage and building resistance in the United States” ? RAM contends not only that America was “built on slavery and genocide,” but also that “modern slavery and mass brutality” against black people “persist unchecked” to this day.

Because “the Civil War was never resolved,” RAM elaborates, “the system of slavery transitioned into the prison industrial complex” where blacks are inarcerated in disproportionately high numbers. On the premise that the United States government has conspired “with white supremacist organizations” to “ensure that the relations of slavery [remain] entrenched in U.S. political, social, and economic life,” RAM claims that “the [slave] ships” of yesteryear have been replaced by the “correctional buses” that transport African Americans en masse to prison cells across the country; that “the [slave] auction blocks [of the 1800s] are now the courtrooms” in American cities; and that black people today “are indelibly marked with prison numbers that remain etched on their records till they die.”

“The abolitionist struggle,” says RAM, must be extended and directed against “the state and capitalism,” which are supposedly the leading modern-day “perpetrators of oppression.” Openly advocating violence against “fascists” and police officers ? the latter of whom

    • Because “the Civil War was never resolved,” RAM elaborates, “the system of slavery transitioned into the prison industrial complex” where blacks are inarcerated [sic] in disproportionately high numbers.

      Now, why would that be?

Could it have something to do with how young Black men (between the age of 14 and 36), which represent around 1% – 2% of the entire US population are nonetheless RESPONSIBLE FOR SOME 52% OF ALL VIOLENT CRIME (i.e., rape, murder, physical assault)?

Here’s a simple statistic: AN INCARCERATED BLACK MALE HAS A LONGER LIFE EXPECTANCY THAN HIS UN-IMPRISONED EQUIVALENT WALKING FREE ON THE STREET.

      Go figure.

Can you tell that I’m sick of all this whining about disproportionate Black imprisonment?

  24. Free Ebook: A Fractured Civilization
The European Union’s failed world government.
    September 28, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

Once upon a time, the Ottoman Empire was known as the “Sick Man of Europe”. These days the sick man of Europe is… Europe. Or rather the European Union.

The ambitious plan for a regional government that would incorporate the hopes for a future world government look shakier than ever. Brexit dealt a severe blow to the credibility of the EU. And rumblings remain of other countries preparing to follow the Brits out of the “Prison of Nations” and into free market freedom.

As the EU reaches its senescent sixty, the Freedom Center’s own Bruce Thornton has a new ebook, A Fractured Civilization: The European Union at Sixty.

Bruce Thornton has written frequently about the foibles of the EU and his latest ebook is a detailed examination of a failed system. Like the USSR, the EU was an ideological ambition that was always bound to shatter against the sharp rocks of reality.

  25. NSA Leaker Did It Because Her Office Had FOX News Instead of Al Jazeera
    September 28, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

Between Bradley Manning, Snowden and this Winner, it might not be a bad idea for the government to actually apply psych tests before allowing anyone access to classified information.

    (Via PJ Media’s Patrick Poole)

“I wasn’t trying to be a Snowden,” Reality Winner assured. Then she explained that her job was tough because of FOX News. “I guess it’s just been hard at work because, and I’ve filed formal complaints about them having Fox News on, you know? Uh, just at least put Al Jazeera on, or a slideshow with people’s pets. I’ve tried everything to get that changed.”

So it was time to go running to the Intercept: a pro-terrorist and anti-American site with classified information. If only they had put on MSNBC. Or maybe fired anyone who asked for Al Jazeera.

  26. Interpol Admits Islamic Terrorist Organization
    September 28, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

The first rule of any police force is don’t let criminals join. Also terrorists.

Generally people who hijack planes or start randomly stabbing people because they’re non-Muslims are not ideal members. But Interpol decided that having a major terrorist group join would be a major asset.

JNS.org – The international police organization Interpol voted on Wednesday in favor of granting the “State of Palestine” full membership, in a diplomatic defeat for Israel.

At the group’s annual General Assembly that convened this year in Beijing, the Palestinian membership bid was approved with 75 countries voting in favor, 24 voting against and 34 abstaining.

Israel had campaigned against the move, arguing the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) support for terrorism would undermine Interpol’s efforts.

  27. Russian Facebook Ads Pushed Black Lives Matter, Bernie Sanders, Hatred of Israel
    September 28, 2017
    Daniel Greenfield

After all the noise about Russian election interference and ad targeting, here’s what it actually comes down to.

Act 1: Ads for Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein

Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein was the beneficiary of at least one of the Russian-bought political ads on Facebook that federal government officials suspect were intended to influence the 2016 election.

Other advertisements paid for by shadowy Russian buyers criticized Hillary Clinton and promoted Donald Trump. Some backed Bernie Sanders and his platform even after his presidential campaign had ended, according to a person with knowledge of the ads.

The ads show a complicated effort that didn’t necessarily hew to promoting Trump and bashing Clinton. Instead, they show a desire to create divisions while sometimes praising Trump, Sanders and Stein. A number of the ads seemed to question Clinton’s authenticity and tout some of the liberal criticisms of her candidacy.

There is no indication Stein, Sanders or Trump was aware of the advertisements, which were described to POLITICO by people with knowledge of them.

  28. Revisiting Orwell to Understand our Times
When Big Brother is really watching you.
    September 28, 2017
    Scott S. Powell

Just two or three generations ago, most Americans understood that George Orwell’s classics Animal Farm and 1984 were written to explain how freedom is lost to totalitarianism and the intolerance that accompanies it. “Big Brother,” a term that many people still casually use to describe an all-knowing governing authority, comes right out of 1984. In the society that Orwell describes, all citizens are continually reminded that “Big Brother is watching you,” by way of a constant surveillance through the pervasive use of “telescreens” by the ruling class.

Orwell’s warnings about totalitarianism written in novel form in Animal Farm and 1984 came shortly after Freidrich Hayek’s Road to Serfdom was published at the end of World War II. But it took the shocking revelations from books on Nazism and Soviet Communism, by scholars like William Shirer and Robert Conquest in the 1960s, to really make Orwell relevant for teaching to the masses educated in American public schools. And it was not just an academic exercise insofar as Stalin’s successor, Nikita Khrushchev, was at that time brutally crushing all resistance, enforcing the Soviet model of totalitarian control on East European countries that became satellite states of Moscow.

  29. Florida Islamist’s “Human Rights” Organization Needs to Be Investigated for Possible Terrorism Ties

    by Joe Kaufman
    September 28, 2017 at 4:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/11078/nidal-mohamed-sakr-muslim-brotherhood

On March 19, 2014, Nidal Mohamed Sakr, an American citizen from Providence, Rhode Island, was detained by Homeland Security upon his arrival in the United States from an extended stay in Egypt, the country of his mother’s birth. Although Sakr is an active member of the Muslim Brotherhood and former al-Qaeda associate, he was released and has been operating freely in the U.S., traveling back and forth between Florida and California as the head of a Miami-based, self-described “human rights” organization called The March for Justice.

This was not the first time that Sakr, who describes himself as “US born from Palestinian origin,” had been interrogated by American authorities. According to an account he posted on the March for Justice website, he was questioned by Palm Beach police in January 2002 about the whereabouts of Osama bin Laden. This occurred as he, Sakr, left an event held by a Jewish organization to express unity and solidarity in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, which had taken place less than four months earlier. At the time, he penned a letter to President George W. Bush complaining that he was being victimized by anti-Muslim Jews.

Prior to 2014, when he was temporarily detained at a US airport, Sakr had spent time in Egypt, where he actively participated in the eruption of the “Arab Spring” — which led to the ouster and imprisonment of then-President Hosni Mubarak and the rise of Muslim Brotherhood chief Mohammed Morsi as Egypt’s president. While in Egypt, Sakr gave a lecture in which he recounted how he was recruited by al-Qaeda co-founder and bin Laden mentor Abdullah Azzam to a Palestinian terrorist cell operating out of Jordan in the 1970s and ’80s. He also spoke about having gotten to know bin Laden and his family.

  30. Switzerland: The Hills are Alive with the Sound of Jihad

    by Bruce Bawer
    September 28, 2017 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/11082/switzerland-islam

If you listen to some of Switzerland’s pollsters and government officials, the country is suffering from a serious and ever-intensifying crisis — anti-Muslim bigotry.

In August, a study concluded that Swiss Muslims “are generally well integrated into Swiss society.” Their main problem? They face “Islamophobia.”

Another study the same month found that the percentage of Swiss non-Muslims who feel “threatened” by Islam had more than doubled since 2004, from 16% to 38%.

At a September 11 conference, Switzerland’s Federal Commission against Racism (FCR) issued an explicit alert: “hostility toward Muslims,” it warned, was rising – and was “fed by facts that have nothing to do with Muslims themselves.”

Conference organizers blamed this “hostility” on online “propaganda”; Interior Minister Alain Berset accused Swiss citizens of erroneously holding “Islam responsible for all the extremist acts committed in its name.”

What you would never know, from all this hand-wringing about “Islamophobia,” is that only a few weeks before the conference, the country’s media had reported on a popular imam in Biel who, in his sermons, “asked Allah to destroy the enemies of Islam — Jews, Christians, Hindus, Russians, and Shiites.” The imam in question, Abu Ramadan, preached that Muslims who befriended infidels were “cursed until the Day of Judgment” — which, of course, is not radical at all, but is straight out of the Koran.

  31. Somalia police say car bomb blast kills 5 in capital (abcnews, Sep 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/somalia-police-car-bomb-blast-kills-capital-50155751

“A car bomb explosion in Somalia’s capital late Thursday has killed at least five people, police say.

The blast was by a car parked outside a restaurant in Mogadishu’s Hamarweyne district and killed mostly civilians, said Capt. Mohamed Hussein.

The explosion shattered a period of calm in this seaside city which has a large security presence following a series of attacks by the Islamic extremist rebels of al-Shabab, who are linked to Al-Qaida and fighting the Somali government and African Union forces in the country.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. However al-Shabab often carries out such attacks. Despite being ousted from large parts of the south and central Somalia, the insurgents continue deadly attacks across the country.”

  32. Lebanese cleric sentenced to death for clashes with army (abcnews, Sep 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/lebanese-cleric-sentenced-death-clashes-army-50155158

“A Lebanese military tribunal on Thursday sentenced a radical Sunni cleric to death for his role in 2013 clashes that killed 18 soldiers, following a trial that lasted for two years.

The firebrand cleric, Ahmed al-Assir, had gained support in southern Lebanon for his vocal criticism of the powerful Shiite militant Hezbollah group’s involvement in Syria’s civil war, sparking tension between Sunni and Shiite Muslims who support opposing sides.

What started as clashes between al-Assir’s supporters and opponents turned into a deadly, days-long standoff with the Lebanese army that left 18 soldiers dead. The cleric used Twitter and Facebook at the time to call on supporters to join the fight with the army and urged soldiers to defect from the military.

After the clashes, al-Assir went into hiding and was only caught two years later trying to flee Lebanon in disguise and with a forged passport.

The court convicted al-Assir of illegal possession of weapons and pre-meditated killing of soldiers. He was also accused of forming an armed group that undermined the state’s authority and inciting sectarianism.

During the trial, he refused to recognize the court’s authority and before Thursday’s sentencing, he repeated his claim that the tribunal is politically motivated and accused it of being influenced by Iran, the main backer of Hezbollah and Syrian President Bashar Assad…”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/official-12-afghan-security-forces-killed-south-50147777

“A sticky bomb, attached to a police vehicle, killed two Afghan policemen and a civilian in an attack on Thursday evening in Kabul, a spokesman said.

Interior Ministry spokesman, Najib Danish, says the explosion also wounded 16 others. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack and Danish said the police were investigating.

The city’s district police chief, Ali Ahmad Attahye, said the blast was so powerful that the vehicle, which belonged to the ministry’s counter-terrorism deportment, was completely burned.

Earlier in the day, officials said that 12 members of the Afghan security forces were killed and four others were wounded when the Taliban stormed the governor’s compounds in Maruf district in southern Kandahar province the previous evening.

Zia Durani, spokesman for the provincial chief of police, said that government forces subsequently managed to push the Taliban out of the district.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yusouf Ahmadi said insurgents captured and held Maruf for a few hours, and seized weapons and other items before leaving the district.”

  34. UK preacher gets 6½ years for promoting terrorism in sermons (abcnews, Sep 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/uk-preacher-years-promoting-terrorism-sermons-50158607

“A Muslim cleric in England has been given a 6?-year prison sentence for using his sermons to back the Islamic State group and encourage terrorism.

Police secretly recorded 40-year-old Kamran Hussain last year giving sermons in which he told children that martyrdom was better than school.

Judge Rebecca Poulet said that Hussain preached “hatred and division” when she sentenced him on Thursday at London’s Old Bailey courthouse.

Hussain claimed during his trial that he was exercising his right to free speech, but he was found guilty of supporting IS and encouraging terrorism.

The judge said the sermons represented a serious, persistent advocacy of terrorism.

Hussain preached at a charity-funded mosque in Stoke-on-Trent, a city 155 miles (250 kilometers) northwest of London.”

  35. Italy: Neo-fascists get a boost from anti-migrant sentiment (abcnews, Sep 28, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/italy-neo-fascists-boost-anti-migrant-sentiment-50153147

“Created as a social movement to help under-privileged Italians, a small neo-fascist group has been grabbing headlines and gaining notoriety with its fierce opposition to migrants arriving in Italy.

But CasaPound, which combines progressive policies such as gay rights and abortion with die-hard nationalism, also is attracting supporters as it tries to redefine neo-fascism, which never completely disappeared in Italy despite Fascism’s defeat as a political movement seven decades ago.

The group is riding a tide of anti-migrant sentiment as it seeks inroads into Italian politics with the ambition of entering parliament next spring and government in a decade.

While analysts doubt it can achieve broad voter acceptance, CasaPound is among a growing movement of nationalist, anti-establishment politics across Europe. Last week, the anti-migrant Alternative for Germany party, founded just four years ago, finished third in Germany’s election to secure seats in the national parliament.

Founded in 2003 as a group of squatters claiming housing for needy families, CasaPound takes its name from American poet Ezra Pound. He was a sympathizer of Benito Mussolini, Italy’s Fascist Party dictator, and identified rent as a form of usury, one of the neo-fascist group’s founding principles.

The group’s fierce opposition to the unabated arrival of migrants, along with its defense of marginalized Italians, has helped it grow in recent years from 5,000 members in 2013 to the 20,000 it claims today.

Long identified in Italy as a violent spark in larger protests, CasaPound has recently been active in disrupting efforts to house migrants. Earlier this month, CasaPound members violently clashed with leftists at a meeting about migrant housing in Rome. And in June, CasaPound activists attacked and injured volunteers inside Milan’s city hall ahead of a similar meeting.

Members have patrolled the beaches of Ostia, near Rome, against migrants allegedly peddling goods illegally.

Leader Gianluca Iannone — a lead singer for the rock band Zetazeroalfa — says the party is redefining what it means to be neo-fascists in Italy.

“Here we are. It simply means that homeland, nation and community come first, because we are one people,” he told The Associated Press.

CasaPound does not hew to the image first cast by Mussolini’s black shirts. Members sport elaborate tattoos and practice martial arts, and the entrance to the group’s headquarters is painted with the names of other figures it admires: the poet W. B. Yeats, German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche and the writers Ray Bradbury and J.R.R. Tolkien.

While they align closely with other European populist groups in opposing the euro currency and closer financial integration within the European Union, they also embrace some progressive policies. Members back gay rights, abortion, and full-time salaries for mothers who work part-time, and send out volunteers after natural disasters.

Concerns about the rise of neo-fascists and the spread of other right-leaning propaganda in Italy have prompted the Democratic Party to introduce a new bill that would tighten legislation promoting fascism. The bill is opposed by the Northern League, which shares an anti-EU and anti-migrant platform with CasaPound, the populist 5-Star Movement, and Brothers of Italy, another right-wing party.

Still, observers say CasaPound’s activist profile, including volunteering in quake zones, has managed to help soften its image. Emanuele Toscano, a sociologist who has researched the group, says that many are attracted by a sense of community without being fully aware of the political implications.

“Like all the populist and right-wing forces, they leverage on general fears: fear of invasion, poor management of the territory, fears tied to the loss of Italian identity, questions of general order related to security,” Toscano said.

“But the difference in respect to the traditional right extremists in Italy is that CasaPound has managed to build a more acceptable image. … CasaPound is in some way less scary than other extreme-right movements.”

The group’s political successes so far have been minor. Its supporters have been elected to local councils in cities as diverse as Bolzano, located in the autonomous northern region of Trentino-Alto-Adige, and historically left-wing Lucca in Tuscany. But experts say CasaPound is far from being a player in the current landscape, and is unlikely to pass the threshold to enter parliament in the next elections.

Political analyst Stefano Folli said it is unlikely to earn more than half a percent of votes in the spring. Attempts to align with the more well-established Lega Nord, or Northern League, have been so far unsuccessful, he noted.

“It is a very small radical movement, part of a right wing that is rather hard-line and already represented by two important parties — the Northern League and Brothers of Italy,” said Piero Ignazi, a professor at the University of Bologna who has written a book about the radical right in Europe and Italy. “There is no space for them. It is a group without great appeal.””
