  1. Turkish president’s bodyguards pummel protesters again

Violence broke out Thursday as protesters descended upon a Midtown speech by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The Turkish leader — whose guards were recently indicted in connection with a wild DC brawl — was attempting to address the Turkish American National Steering Committee at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square, according to BuzzFeed News.

As soon as Erdogan enters the stage a protester can be heard on a Periscope video shouting “You’re a terrorist! Get out of my country!”

The assembly soon turned into a battle royale, with protesters causing mayhem as security guards hurried them out of the room. The demonstrators can be seen being pummeled by punches as they attempt to leave.

It was the latest violence to come from an Erdogan appearance in the US.

Last month, a total of 15 Turkish security guards were indicted by a grand jury for beating up protesters on Washington’s Embassy Row while Erdogan was watching on May 16.

The NYPD said that although five people were briefly detained, no arrests were made.

    =================================================

NYT – Fighting Breaks Out at Turkish President’s Speech in New York

Violence broke out at a New York hotel Thursday afternoon when protesters disrupted a speech by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey.

In the middle of Mr. Erdogan’s speech, delivered in Turkish, a man — one of a handful of protesters — screamed in English: “You’re a terrorist. Get out of my country!” The ballroom at the Marriott Marquis hotel in Times Square instantly erupted, with many attendees chanting Mr. Erdogan’s name to drown out the protesters

Videos showed the protesters — one of them wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with a picture of Michael Israel, an American who was killed in a Turkish airstrike while volunteering with the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, or Y.P.G. — being punched and slapped by several attendees as security personnel removed them from the room. Security also removed at least one person who had assaulted the protesters.

Meghan Bodette, who identified herself as one of six protesters (one of whom was filming), said their goal was “to call attention to the Turkish state’s war crimes and human rights abuses against the Kurdish people,” both in Turkey and in Syria.

“Erdogan should not be able to speak here unchallenged, and we challenged him because the American people need to know that a state that claims to be our ally is hindering the fight against ISIS in Syria and destroying civilian lives,” Ms. Bodette said in a Twitter message.[…]

    • How is this scumbag Erdogan even allowed to have a demonstration like this on US soil, let alone a major city like New Yokr? Just as with the Antifa thugs, their mooslim counterparts who work for the dictator, they are allowed free rein to shut down FREE SPEECH.

Of course since we have the Islamic sympathizer, communist Mayor Deblasio running things, no one in the ultra liberal city would ever stand up for the right of the protestors to speak on AMERICAN SOIL.

It is truly sickening that in our Sanctuary Cities not only do the illegals get a pass and can do whatever they want, but a fascist dictator is allowed to take over a public space, prohibit free speech that is guaranteed by OUR Constitution, and have his thugs beat up dissenters who dare to speak out.

Things are moving very quikcly in a bad direction. Trump needs to step things up when it comes to immigration and free speech, the two biggest issues we face worldwide.

    https://www.cbsnews.com/news/protesters-at-ny-erdogan-speech-punched-hit-as-they-were-removed-from-room/

“Videos posted on social media appeared to show protesters in New York being hit and punched as they were removed from a speech by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to one video on Twitter, a protester who appeared to be American yelled at Erdogan, “You’re a terrorist! Get out of my country!”

The scuffles took place as Erdogan addressed the Turkish American National Steering Committee (TASC), a group friendly to Erdogan, at the Marriott Marquis in Times Square…”

“U.S. President Donald Trump and Afghanistan President Ashraf Ghani agreed at a meeting in New York on Thursday that U.S. companies could help develop Afghanistan’s rare earth minerals, the White House said in a statement.

“They agreed that such initiatives would help American companies develop materials critical to national security while growing Afghanistan’s economy and creating new jobs in both countries, therefore defraying some of the costs of United States assistance as Afghans become more self-reliant,” the White House said.

The two leaders also expressed their commitment to fully implement Trump’s new South Asia strategy to defeat terrorism, the statement said.”

  4. Algeria: six government banks to offer islamic banking by 2018 (memo, Sep 22, 2017)
    https://www.middleeastmonitor.com/20170922-algeria-six-government-banks-to-offer-islamic-banking-by-2018/

“On Thursday, Algeria’s Prime Minister, Ahmed Ouyahia, announced that Islamic banking and financial services are to be approved in two public government banks before the end of this year and will be approved in four other banks in 2018.

This announcement came during Ouyahia’s response to the deputies of the People’s National Assembly (the first chamber of the parliament) during the ratification session of the government’s plan of action.

The government’s action plan won 341 votes out of 462, the total number of deputies in the first chamber, against 64 opposed votes and 13 abstentions.

Ouyahia explained that Islamic financial services (Islamic banking and instruments) will be approved in two government banks before the end of this year, without giving details on the process and the involved banks.

“The process will be approved in four other government banks in 2018,” he added.

According to Ouyahia, this step shows the government’s intention to move towards this option to attract financial masses from the parallel market to the banks. He explained that “the opposition’s claims that the government does not intend to adopt this type of funding are unfounded.”

The Algerian Prime Minister considered that “the financial mass that currently exists in the parallel market is estimated at 2700 billion Algerian dinars (26 billion dollars), but it will not solve the crisis by its own, even if the banks attracted it.”…”

  5. Soldier watched ‘Cops’ to learn to train Afghan police – watchdog (RT, Sep 22, 2017)
    https://www.rt.com/usa/404161-sigar-review-us-training-afghan-police/

“A government watchdog tasked with studying the effects of reconstruction in Afghanistan finds US forces to be ill-equipped to train the Afghan National Police. One military official even used “Cops” to learn law enforcement techniques.

The title of the critical review, issued by the special inspector general for reconstruction (SIGAR), is “Reconstructing the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces: Lessons From the US Experience in Afghanistan.” It is the second in a series of reports focused on lessons learned in the country. SIGAR started the lessons learned program in late 2014.

John Sopko, the special inspector general for reconstruction (SIGAR) in Afghanistan who released the review Thursday, is tasked with investigating the United States’ efforts to build security forces in Afghanistan, as well as to point out the flaws leading to failures in the mission.

Sopko explained that he and his team spoke with a US military officer who claimed to have watched “NCIS” and “Cops” to learn about techniques to teach Afghan police officers, according to the review.

In two other instances, Sopko and his team also met a US Army helicopter pilot assigned to teach policing, and uncovered a US police-training unit designed as a military unit, and another military unit designed as a police unit.

“You should have police or people with police backgrounds teaching police,” Sopko said. “And it is silly to have a really well-trained Army helicopter pilot teaching police. That just doesn’t make sense. You’ve got to align it.”

In another example of a communication breakdown among US troops training Afghan forces, Sopko said US officials used unreliable PowerPoint presentations focusing on US-NATO Balkan operations in training sessions with Afghan Police.

“The presentations were not only of questionable relevance to the Afghan setting, but also overlooked the high level of illiteracy among the recruits,” he said. “Such cut-and-paste activities lifted from one country and slapped onto another like a decal are not likely to boost the prospects of overall success.”…”

    • This one is absolute BS, the MPs have been training overseas police forces since the mid 1900s. If Russia wants to put out believable propaganda they need to come up with more believable BS.

  6. Police forced to make ‘difficult and unpalatable’ choices as anti-terror work hits budgets (express, Sep 22, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/857290/Police-anti-terror-budget-Sara-Thornton-officer-forces

“SHRINKING budgets are forcing police chiefs to make “difficult and unpalatable” choices over safeguarding the public, a senior officer has revealed.

Sara Thornton claimed every police force is having to make decisions about what to prioritise while dealing with an increased demand.

Ms Thornton, who chairs the National Police Chiefs’ Council, wants to make sure day-to-day policing is not forgotten as more and more is demanded of forces.

The former Thames Valley chief warned that police risked losing touch with communities as officers are taken off the street and money and resources are ploughed into anti-terror operations.

Mrs Thornton claimed the current pressure on the service is “not sustainable” despite Government claims that the police are suitably resourced.

The senior officer is calling for and “open-minded dialogue” with the Government.

She said: “Withdrawal from communities risks undermining their trust in us, at a time when we need people to have the confidence to share information with us.

“Police chiefs will do all they can to protect the public from terrorism. We will make choices about what we prioritise and where we invest.

“Some of these choices may be difficult and unpalatable to the public but we can make them if necessary.”

Mrs Thorton’s warning follow claims from chief officers that they are forced to neglect activities such as patrolling in favour of urgent threats…”

    • This is an unintended consequence of the refusal of the left to admit that the terror attacks are acts of war and require intelligence and military responses instead of being criminal acts requiring the police to do everything.

“Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has vowed to strengthen the country’s missile capabilities, state media reported. The statement comes amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington after President Trump’s speech at the UN General Assembly.

The Iranian leader addressed the military on Friday, during a parade marking the start of Muharram, the first month of the Islamic lunar calendar.

“A man was arrested Friday for alleged links to the extremist cell in last month’s attacks in Barcelona and a nearby town that killed 16 people, Spain’s Interior Ministry said.

The 24-year-old suspect of Moroccan origin purchased materials for explosives in his name and he provided vehicles to transport them, the ministry said. The man’s name hasn’t been released.

The ministry said the suspect had a close relationship with Abdelbaki Es Satty, the imam that investigators see as the key figure in the recruitment of other cell members and the planning of the deadly attacks.

The latest suspect was arrested in the coastal town of Vinaros, 10 kilometers (six miles) south of Alcanar, where Es Satty died with another alleged cell member when a bomb workshop exploded.

Six others attackers were shot dead by police and five people so far have been arrested in connection with the attacks. Three, including the latest suspect, are in custody and two others have been freed but remain under investigation.

The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the van attack in Barcelona’s Las Ramblas district and the vehicle and knife attack in the coastal town of Cambrils on Aug. 17-18.

Authorities say 201 suspected jihadi activists have been arrested since Spain raised its national security alert to one step below the maximum in mid-2015.”

  10. Angela Merkel embroiled in refugee scandal in huge blow days before German election (express, Sep 22, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/857378/german-election-2017-angela-merkel-refugee-policy-illegal-der-spiegel-bundestag

“A LEAKED internal German government report appears to condemn Chancellor Angel Merkel for opening the country’s borders to refugees without first gaining parliamentary approval.

The admonishment comes two days before she seeks a fourth term in power in Sunday’s general election – with 20 percent of voters still undecided who they will support.

The report by the Bundestag Scientific Office – a team of non party political legal experts – stated it is the role of the Bundestag to decide on all “matters of essential relevance to the state”.

Experts said the opaque diplomatic language used in it signals parliament should have had the final say on the matter “as the decision led to a change in the proportion of non-Germans to Germans in the country”.

Influential news magazine Der Spiegel said: “Bundestag lawyers clearly see an unclear legal situation for the border opening.

“This is an explosive opinion on the refugee crisis shortly before the election.”

The story was broken by the Die Welt newspaper.

Merkel opened up the borders in September 2015 after discussing the issue with her cabinet. Since then she has lost thousands of party members to the hard right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party and witnessed bogus asylum seekers carry out terror attacks.

To this day she has never explained the legal basis for arriving at the decision which will see the AfD become the main opposition party in a new parliament even though she is still expected to win.

The internal report says German law states that refugees do not have a right to apply for asylum in Germany if they entered the it through another signatory to the 1951 Refugee Convention.

They said, according to German law, asylum seekers should have been turned away at the Austrian border.

The AfD and the pro-business FDP liberals parties want to establish a commission to look into the Chancellor’s border policies in the next parliament.

Die Linke – the Left Party – also slammed the democratic deficit in the decision making which led to the refugee influx.

“It was right to help those people,” said MP Sevim Dagdelen told Die Welt.

“Unfortunately she never brought the Bundestag or neighbouring countries into the decision- making process.””

  11. Spain CRISIS: Police boats BLOCKED by Catalan ports as unrest threatens to RIP Spain APART (express, Sep 22, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/857208/Catalan-independence-crisis-military-police-boats-blocked

“SPAIN’S plan to send boatloads of military police to Catalonia to prevent its independence referendum have backfired with dockers in two ports staging a boycott and a third refusing access.

More than 4,000 members of Spain’s Guardia Civil are being dispatched to the troubled region amid concerns over divided loyalties in the autonomous community’s own police force, the Mossos d’ Esquadra.

Spanish authorities wanted to house the Guardia Civil officers on four cruise ships – two in Barcelona, one in Tarragona and another in Palamos.

But as thousands took to the streets to protest against the detention of Catalan officials, local dock workers joined the backlash.

The Assembly of Stevedores of the Port of Barcelona announced that workers would not provide any services to boats carrying security forces, a decision it said was taken “in defence of civil rights”.

Colleagues in Tarragona quickly followed suit and the Catalan government then denied permission to dock in Palamos – which, unlike Barcelona and Tarragona, falls under regional rather than national control.

The moves to disrupt the deployment comes amid seething anger in Catalonia over the arrests of 14 people, most of them high ranking Catalan officials, during preparations for a referendum that has been declared illegal by Spain’s constitutional court.

Dramatic scenes unfolded across Barcelona and other Catalan towns as the Guardia Civil mounted 41 raids targeting government and presidential departments, as well as warehouses containing election material.

More than 40,000 people have gathered in Barcelona to protest over the arrests and the intervention of the Spanish government in the Catalan independence vote…”

“An Estonian court has sentenced a Syrian refugee guilty to 10 years in prison for setting his wife on fire.

The Baltic News Agency says a court in Tallinn ruled Friday that the 20-year-old Kovan Mohammad was guilty of grievous bodily harm when committing the crime on March 7.

BNS, the region’s largest news agency, said an unnamed 22-year-old Syrian woman sustained burns on 70 percent of her body in a fire in their apartment in the Estonian capital, in March.

Estonian broadcaster ERR said the Syrian woman ended up in a coma, from which she awoke later in March.

The couple’s child, who was also in the apartment at the time of the blaze, was unharmed. They arrived in Estonia as quota refugees from Greece in June 2016.”

  15. Amid new sanctions, Trump calls North Korea’s leader ‘madman’ whose regime will face new tests

NEW YORK — President Trump lashed back Friday at North Korea’s leader, calling Kim Jong Un a “madman” whose regime will be “tested like never before” amid new U. S-imposed financial sanctions.

The latest economic pressures announced Thursday come as the Trump administration seeks to build international support for more aggressively confronting the rogue nation, whose escalating nuclear and ballistic missile capabilities have reached what U.S. officials consider a crisis point.

The new penalties seek to leverage the dominance of the U.S. financial system by forcing nations, foreign companies and individuals to choose whether to do business with the United States or the comparatively tiny economy of North Korea. U.S. officials acknowledged that like other sanctions, these may not deter North Korean leader Kim Jong Un’s drive to threaten the United States with a nuclear weapon, but is aimed at slowing him down.

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post-politics/wp/2017/09/21/trump-says-the-u-s-will-impose-new-sanctions-on-north-korea/?utm_term=.54be8d946bf5

    • War of words with North Korea escalates, with Trump calling Kim a ‘madman’

The war of words between President Donald Trump and the leader of North Korea escalated Friday, with Trump saying Kim Jong Un “will be tested like never before.”

In a tweet, Trump called Kim “a madman who doesn’t mind starving or killing his people.”

Trump’s latest tirade came after the North Korean dictator chastised Trump, calling the president’s United Nations address earlier this week “unprecedented rude nonsense.”

“The mentally deranged behavior of the U.S. president openly expressing on the UN arena the unethical will to ‘totally destroy’ a sovereign state, beyond the boundary of threats of regime change or overturn of social system, makes even those with normal thinking faculty think about discretion and composure,” Kim said in a statement circulated by state news agency KCNA.

Early Friday, Kim said that Trump’s remarks at the U.N. merit the “highest level of hard-line countermeasure in history.”

The heated rhetoric comes as North Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Ri Yong Ho said that his country may consider a test of a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean, according to a report from South Korea’s official news agency Yonhap.

Ri said the potential test of “the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb” would be one possible “highest-level” action against the U.S., according to the report.

      https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/22/war-of-words-with-north-korea-escalates-with-trump-calling-kim-a-madman.html

    • North Korea may detonate nuclear bomb in Pacific, foreign minister tells reporters

North Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Ri Yong Ho said that his country may consider a test of a hydrogen bomb in the Pacific Ocean, according to a report from South Korea’s official news agency Yonhap.

Ri said the potential test of “the most powerful detonation of an H-bomb” would be one possible “highest-level” action against the U.S., according to the report.

He added that he didn’t know what actions would be ordered by Kim Jong-un, Yonhap reported.

Ri’s threat is significant because such a detonation would move North Korea’s nuclear weapons activities beyond its borders for the first time. Japan, for example, lies between North Korea and the Pacific Ocean.

The communist dictatorship’s previous nuclear tests have taken place in its isolated mountains.

      https://www.cnbc.com/2017/09/21/north-korea-foreign-minister-says-may-detonate-nuclear-bomb-in-pacific-reports-south-korean-news-agency.html

      • It looks like China is ready for the war to start, the ball is in their court and we aill have to wait and see if Kim is just running his mouth or is serious. The big questions is, will Kim carry out this threat? But the second biggest question is how will the left around the world react if/when he does an open air test of his hydrogen bomb? How will all of the environmental activists react?

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/defiant-rouhani-iran-press-missile-program-50020440

“Iran’s Revolutionary Guard on Friday unveiled its latest ballistic missile capable of reaching much of the Middle East, including Israel, while the country’s president vowed that Tehran would press ahead with its missile program in defiance of U.S. demands to the contrary.

The unveiling came during a military parade in Tehran that commemorated the 1980s Iraq-Iran war.

The move was a direct challenge to President Donald Trump, who in August signed a bill imposing mandatory penalties on those involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them.

Though Iran has long boasted of having missiles in the same range in its arsenal, it was the first time that the Khoramshahr, with a range of 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles) was displayed in public.

In February, Iran test-fired the same medium-range type of missile, prompting Trump to say that the United States is “putting Iran on notice.”

Trump has vowed repeatedly to take a tougher line toward Iran than his predecessor, threatening at various times to renegotiate or even dismantle the nuclear deal, and shoot Iranian boats out of the water if they provoke U.S. naval vessels in the Persian Gulf…”

“Turkey’s government will never accept a separate Kurdish state in neighboring Iraq and won’t refrain from taking steps to prevent it, the Turkish prime minister said Friday.

Binali Yildirim again called on Iraqi Kurdish leaders to abandon plans for a referendum on independence, saying it wasn’t too late for them to turn away “from this adventure.”

“This decision for a referendum and the realization of this referendum is a matter of Turkish national security,” Yildirim said. “Turkey is determined — and wouldn’t hesitate to use its rights emanating from international agreements and bilateral agreements where matters of national security are concerned.”

“A change to the existing statuses of Syria or Iraq would be a result that we would never accept and would do the necessary against within our rights,” he said.

Yildirim was speaking to reporters hours before Turkey’s political and military leaders were due to meet to consider possible sanctions and other measures against Iraq’s Kurdish region if it goes ahead with the vote. The National Security Council was to meet followed by a Cabinet meeting on Friday as the country stepped up pressure on Iraq’s Kurds to abandon the vote slated for Sept. 25…”

“Thousands were voting Friday in the predominantly Kurdish regions in northern Syria to elect heads of local communities as part of the Kurds’ efforts to move closer to a federal system within Syria.

The vote comes days before Iraqi Kurds are to vote on their independence from Baghdad but the two elections are not related.

Damascus hasn’t commented on the Syrian Kurdish vote but Kurdish officials see it as a step toward enshrining their project of a decentralized system — one they say hasn’t faced the same objections as the Iraqi vote.

“These elections are an important step in the history of Syria,” senior Kurdish official Ilham Ahmed told The Associated Press.

The Kurdish-run Hawar news agency said 12,421 candidates are running to head 3,732 neighborhood and village communities or “communes.” Nearly half the candidates are women.

    • Is he really worried? Or is he trying to get the West to stop their research [so that] Russia can get ahead of us?

Ask yourself this … Manhattan Project Commander, General Leslie Groves made sure that Roosevelt was obliged to assay just how urgent America’s pursuit of the atomic bomb should be. In response, he asked a too-simple question (otherwise known as a “dry lab” experiment). What of it?

Essentially, his overall argument boiled down to this: What if Nazi Germany was in sole possession of nuclear weapons? What then would be the outcome of WWII?

Faced with this brutal decision-gate, the President instantly understood that there was no alternative. PERIOD.

Overly-simplistic as it may seem, this single discussion (essentially) funded the entire Manhattan Project and won America’s Pacific Theater.

The idea of America’s Artificial Intelligence program hinging upon this same sort of binary (so to speak) outcome is more than a little daunting.

  22. Artificial intelligence pioneer calls for the breakup of Big Tech

Yoshua Bengio, the artificial intelligence pioneer, says the centralization of wealth, power and capability in Big Tech is “dangerous for democracy” and that the companies should be broken up.

Why it matters: Bengio is a professor at the University of Montreal and a member of the three-man “Canadian Mafia” that pioneered machine learning, the leading method used in AI. His remarks are notable because of his influence in the AI community and because he or his peers all either directly lead or consult for Big Tech’s AI programs. Says Bengio: “Concentration of wealth leads to concentration of power. That’s one reason why monopoly is dangerous. It’s dangerous for democracy.”
    Keep reading 235 words

The AI pioneers: Bengio consults for IBM and his colleagues Geoffrey Hinton consults for Google and Yann LeCun for Facebook. Ruslan Salakhutdinov, a protege of Hinton’s, runs Apple’s AI research effort.

Benigo said the concentration of resources, talent and knowledge among giant tech companies is only increasing and governments must act. “We need to create a more level playing field for people and companies,” Bengio told Axios at an AI conference in Toronto last week.

  24. The continuing lesson of the wiretapping and unmasking done by the Obama administration
    By J.E. Dyer September 22, 2017

As this whole “investigative” drama flails, stalled in a crashing of gears, never moving “forward” in any sense, it is good to take a moment to remember one of the most important things about it.

We learned this week – assuming the reports are correct – that Paul Manafort, for a time the chairman of Donald Trump’s campaign, was in fact wiretapped from mid-2016 to early 2017. This probably means conversations with Trump were listened in on, and that Trump Tower, where Manafort has an apartment, was wiretapped, as Trump claimed earlier this year.

We also learned that in 2016, Samantha Power, then U.S. ambassador to the UN, reportedly made more than 260 “unmasking” requests on communications involving U.S. persons, many of them in the days after the November election, and apparently thought to involve people from the Trump team.

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2017/09/22/continuing-lesson-wiretapping-unmasking-done-obama-administration/

    • She lays this out in a lot more detail (and those interested should read the entire article) that unless the media or Mueller comes up with a new source there will be no new evidence (and their is no evidence the Russians were in Collusion with the Trump Campaign). As whats his face who use to work for the Obama administration said the entire Russian meme is a big nothing burger.

For that matter the leftists sudden concern about Russian interference in the US elections. The Russians (with both communist and oligarchical government) have been trying to influence the US elections all of my life. This is the first time I can remember when the Dems and the left have been worried about this interference. My take on this is that the left knows that with the rise of populism in the US (and around the world) is the death knell of the radical lefts power in politics for the foreseeable future and they are going to do all they can to oppose this lose of power. This also explains the Deep States attempt to carry out a soft coup to reverse the 2016 election. They know that once we the people wake up and assert our political power their control of the US Government is over.

“ROTHERHAM child sex gang victim Sammy Woodhouse spoke out about her horrific experience again as she appeared on today’s Loose Women.

Sammy – who previously discussed the scandal on Loose Women back in April – received a letter after her appearance on the show saying she’d been initially refused compensation because she had “consented” to the grooming and sexual abuse.

Sammy – who has now launched the Sammy’s Law campaign to help others – was also asked by panellist Kaye Adams about how she felt when she found out that the South Yorkshire Police had ruled out a further investigation against senior figures at Rotherham borough council.

The victim replied: “It’s disgusting really, there’s always some kind of loophole. I never got my hopes up, but you have to keep fighting it.”

More than 1,400 children were abused by gangs of Asian men in the South Yorkshire town over a 16-year period, with the authorities failing to act because they feared being branded “racist”.

In response to the victims not getting compensation, the Government has confirmed the CICA is reviewing its guidelines after lawyers argued that a child giving consent was not legally possible…”

  26. 80 people surrounded police headquarters demanding release of their compatriot

Situation unexpected (and tense) yesterday evening, Tuesday, at the police station Val-de-Reuil (Eure). Eighty people from the Turkish community gathered in front of the building and encircled it, blocking with their vehicles the main portal and the access reserved for the public.

    Lack of license
At the origin of this “state of siege”, the arrest of a 25-year-old Turkish motorist, late afternoon, at 18:15, following a roadside check. The young man was driving with a Turkish license which is not valid in France. In order to carry out checks, in particular on his administrative situation, the police officers notified him of his detention in police custody.

A measure that caused an unexpected reaction of his compatriots, who demanded his release as soon as possible.

    Reinforcements from Évreux and Vernon
Faced with the particularly tense situation, the police station requested reinforcements from Vernon and Evreux. Some thirty policemen took positions to prevent any slippage.

Commissioner Éric Maudier, departmental director of public security, joined the Val-de-Reuil commissioner, Julien Daubigny.

Finally, after more than an hour and a half of discussion, the assailants agreed to retire in a calm, around 10:30 pm.
The driver regained his freedom this Wednesday morning.

On Thursday, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made a pledge to protect “election integrity” and democracy from the possibility of foreign meddling after promising to provide details to congressional investigators about ads purchased by Russians during the 2016 elections.

“The integrity of our elections is fundamental to democracy around the world,” said Zuckerberg. “That’s why we’ve built teams dedicated to working on election integrity and preventing governments from interfering in the elections of other nations.”

  28. Newly released email shows Hillary Clinton invited Vladimir Putin to Clinton Foundation event
By Rusty Weiss September 21, 2017

If Hillary Clinton had won the presidency (yes, I know: a troubling thought), would Democrats still be screeching “Impeach 45”? You’re playing saying, “Of course not.” But what if they had learned that Clinton sought to meet with enemy of the state Vladimir Putin? Would that change the calculus?

An email unearthed by Judicial Watch reveals that Clinton Foundation Director of Foreign Policy Amitabh Desai provided to Assistant Secretary of State Andrew Shapiro a list of prospective dignitaries who were invited to attend the 2009 Clinton Global Initiative meeting.

  29. Two men aged 20 and 21 were arrested and taken into custody on Tuesday night for a violent robbery committed in downtown Nantes. At about 3:30 am, Quai de Turenne, a 36-year-old Nantais, who was coming out of a bar on rue Kervégan, was approached by the two individuals who were asking him for cigarettes.
The two men then threw him on the lawn and beat him. Worse, they jumped with their feet together on his ankle until it broke, in order to avoid getting caught up, police said. The two attackers then fled with the mobile phone of the wounded man left lying on the ground.

Unfortunately for them, a witness spotted them at Commerce Square and warned the police. This Libyan and Moroccan were the subject of a ban on return to France for three years. Transferred to the CHU, the thirty-year-old, on the other hand, suffers from an open fracture. The investigation is ongoing.

  30. Europe: Muslim Reformers Need Police Protection

    by Giulio Meotti
    September 22, 2017 at 5:00 am

    https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/11032/europe-muslim-reformers

Abdelbaki Essati, the imam the authorities believe was at the center of terrorist attacks in and around Barcelona, was apparently a master of deception — “too polite, too correct”. He was apparently able to deceive European intelligence services by preaching a “moderate” version of Islam, while at the same time, orchestrating deadly jihadist attacks.

Another imam in Europe, Seyran Ates, preaches a genuinely “moderate Islam” but needs around-the-clock police protection.

Ates, training to become an imam, seems to have thought there was no better place than Berlin to inaugurate her mosque, Ibn Rushd-Goethe. It is the first Islamic religious site open to unmarried women, homosexuals, atheists, Sufis, unveiled women — all those people that many fundamentalist Islamists have said they wish to silence or kill.

But after the flashbulbs of photographers came the death threats. Now, six German police officers are needed to protect Ates. She is not new to death threats. She closed her law firm in Kreuzberg (a Turkish district of Berlin) after almost being murdered in a terror attack. The bullet lodged between her fourth and fifth vertebrae. It took her five years to recover from the injury.

Stay at home instead of vote for the right-wing party, Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), is the last-minute advice Chancellor Merkel’s chief of staff, Peter Altmaier, is giving to voters ahead of Sunday’s election in Germany.

“Better not vote than to vote for the AfD,” Merkel’s powerful right-hand man told the German newspaper Bild on Tuesday. “The AfD are dividing our country. They are exploiting people’s fears. Therefore, I believe that a vote for the AfD cannot be justified.

“These are just a few rabble-rousers who profit from all the reporting on them,” he continued, urging the media to stop covering the AfD.

  33. Iran Nuclear Deal at a Crossroads
President Trump eyes changes to fix dangerous flaws.
    September 22, 2017
    Joseph Klein

President Trump used his address to the United Nations General Assembly on September 19th to lash out at Barack Obama’s nuclear deal with Iran, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). He called it an “embarrassment” and “one of the worst and one-sided transactions the U.S. has ever entered into,” warning the General Assembly that “you haven’t heard the last on it, believe me.” President Trump said on Wednesday that he has made up his mind on what to do about the JCPOA, but would not disclose his decision publicly at this time. There are reports that the president is leaning towards refusing to sign the next certification to Congress of Iran’s compliance with the JCPOA by the deadline of October 15th. This would place the matter in Congress’s lap to decide within 60 days whether to re-impose the sanctions that had been lifted as a result of the JCPOA’s implementation. If Congress does so, the whole deal will likely unravel.

President Trump may be maneuvering towards a position that uses the threat of restoring sanctions, and imposing new secondary sanctions on firms doing business with certain individuals and entities in Iran, as leverage to pressure the U.S.’s Western European negotiating partners into agreeing to join his demand for a re-opening of negotiations with Iran.

Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani closed the door on re-opening the JCPOA for negotiations during his own address to the General Assembly and in his remarks afterwards to the press. “It will be a great pity if this agreement would be destroyed by rogue newcomers to the world of politics,” he said in a veiled reference to President Trump. “By violating its international commitments, the new U.S. administration only destroys its own credibility and undermines international confidence in negotiating with it.” He later told reporters that there could be no amending, reopening or renegotiation of the JCPOA as far as Iran was concerned.

  34. Turkey: Turkey beefs up military presence along Syrian border

Turkey began increasing its military presence along the Syrian border in town of Reyhanli on Friday, with a number of convoy trucks carrying significant military hardware.

The move follows an announcement by Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at the United Nations General Council on Thursday of his intentions to deploy military forces to Syrian de-escalation zones, with more troops and equipment expected to be deployed over the next weeks.

“This referendum is an issue of Turkey’s national security. Turkey is determined to use its natural rights originating from international and bilateral conventions and will not hesitate in this,” Y?ld?r?m told reporters in Ankara.

He once again reiterated Ankara’s call to KRG President Barzani to cancel the referendum, stating that it will not bring any benefit to the Kurdish people in the region.

Y?ld?r?m also described the inclusion of Kirkuk in the vote as a “calamity.””

“Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an said on Sept. 21 Turkey will deploy troops in Syria’s northern Idlib region as part of a so-called de-escalation agreement brokered by Russia last month.

The “de-escalation” zones, agreed by Turkey, Russia and Iran, would be further discussed in talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin during his trip to Ankara next week, Erdo?an said in an interview with Reuters while he was in New York for the annual United Nations General Assembly.

“Under the agreement, Russians are maintaining security outside Idlib and Turkey will maintain the security inside Idlib region,” Erdo?an said.

“The task is not easy … With Putin, we will discuss additional steps that need to be taken in order to eradicate terrorists once and for all to restore peace,” he said.

“Turkey’s National Security Council Meeting (MGK) which convened under President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an ended late on Sept. 22, stressing that the Iraqi Kurdish independence referendum slated for Sept. 25 was illegitimate and unacceptable.

“The illegitimacy of the referendum announced by the KRG as on Sept. 25 and its unacceptance was once again specified. It was strongly stressed that this step which directly threatens Turkey’s national security was a grave mistake that threatens Iraq’s political unity and territorial integrity as well as peace, security and stability of the region,” the statement read issued after the meeting.

It also added that Turkey reserved its rights originating from bilateral and international conventions.

“Turkey reserves its rights originating from bilateral and international conventions if this referendum is held despite all of our warnings,” it stated.

It once again urged the Kurdish Regional Government to cancel the referendum which it said was “threatening Turkey’s national security.”

The statement noted the inevitability of the fact that there would be serious consequences which would “damage the whole region” if the KRG insisted on the mistake.”

  35. The Truth About Police Violence Against Black Men
    Facts are stubborn things.
    September 22, 2017
    Mark Tapson

In the wake of violent protests in St. Louis following the acquittal of white former police officer Jason Stockley for the murder of black suspect Anthony Lamar Smith, a Cornell University doctoral candidate in philosophy has put forth an argument you’re unlikely to hear in the mainstream media. Writing at National Review Online, Philippe Lemoine marshals actual facts and logic to demonstrate that, contrary to received wisdom, black males in the United States do not suffer a disproportionate degree of police brutality.

The largely undisputed narrative about cops and black men goes like this: black males are victimized daily all over America by police harassment and brutality, even when innocent, and there is an epidemic of police shootings of unarmed black men. This narrative is false, says Lemoine, and “distracts from far more serious problems that black Americans face.” Furthermore, the news media acceptance of it “poisons the relations between law enforcement and black communities throughout the country and results in violent protests that destroy property and sometimes even claim lives.”

The reality, Lemoine declares, is that a random black male is “overwhelmingly unlikely” to be the victim of police violence, and any disparity that does exist between the violence blacks and whites experience in their encounter with cops “is consistent with the racial gap in violent crime, suggesting that the role of racial bias is small.”

As revealed in recent congressional testimony, Students for Justice in Palestine is a campus front for Hamas terrorists. SJP’s propaganda activities are orchestrated and funded by a Hamas front group, American Muslims for Palestine, whose chairman is Hatem Bazian and whose principals are former officers of the Holy Land Foundation and other Islamic “charities” previously convicted of funneling money to Hamas. The report and posters are part of a larger Freedom Center campaign titled Stop University Support for Terrorists. Images of the posters that appeared at UC-Berkeley may be viewed at http://www.stopuniversitysupportforterrorists.org.

    University of California-Irvine

Over the past decade, the University of California Irvine has earned a well-deserved reputation as a base for supporters of anti-Israel terrorism and hostility towards Jews. At several events over the past few years, members of UCI SJP have entirely disrupted pro-Israel events, chanting slogans promoting terrorism such as “Intifada, Intifada/long live the Intifada” and “when people are occupied/resistance is justified,” forcing Jewish students to disperse under the watch of campus police. Irvine hosts an annual Israeli Apartheid Week which has been variously called “Anti-Zionism Week” and “Resisting Zionism Week.” A mock “apartheid wall” displayed during the week has glorified convicted hijacker Leila Khaled a member of the murderous terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and also depicted a map of Israel with the entire nation labeled as “occupied territory.” It has also contained incitements to terrorism such as the statement “When people are occupied, resistance is justified.”

  37. Unmasking Power’s Abuse of Power
More proof emerges that Obama used spy agencies to undermine Trump.
    September 22, 2017
    Matthew Vadum

President Obama’s UN Ambassador Samantha Power was reportedly “unmasking” Americans almost on a daily basis right up to President Trump’s inauguration, which bolsters Trump’s claim that the Obama administration tried to rig last year’s election by spying on the then-GOP candidate’s campaign.

Fox News is reporting that in the closing months of the Obama administration, Irish-born Power reportedly made more than 260 requests to identify Americans whose names turned up in foreign intelligence collection, a process called unmasking. Why an envoy to the United Nations would be involved in unmasking anyone, in this case focusing on the private communications of hundreds of Americans, has not been explained.

These private communications were intercepted by U.S. intelligence agencies that were surveilling the Trump campaign. Conversations between Trump associates and persons not under surveillance themselves are referred to in the intelligence community as examples of “incidental collection.”

    California’s Vietnam War
For Golden State Democrats, some Asians are more equal than others.
    September 22, 2017
    Lloyd Billingsley

The Vietnam War, the ten-part, 18-hour documentary series by Ken Burns and Lynn Novick, is running on PBS. Thursday’s episode 5 showed the conflict on the brink of the Tet Offensive in 1968. Future episodes will deal with the withdrawal of U.S. forces in 1973, which paved the way for the victory of the Soviet-backed North Vietnamese Communists in 1975. One California state senator has considerable experience on that front.

The Communists changed the name of Saigon to Ho Chi Minh City and Janet Nguyen was born there in 1976. Her father was a South Vietnamese soldier and imprisoned when the family tried to escape. The Communists assassinated her uncle, a South Vietnamese Army officer, in front of his village and family.

The Nguyen family became part of the “boat people” exodus and made their way to Thailand. California governor Jerry Brown spearheaded an effort by high-profile Democrats to keep the refugees – even orphans – out of the United States.

Brown tried to block flights of refugees into Travis Air Force Base and said it was “a little strange” to bring in refugees when one million Californians were out of work. Rep. Elizabeth Holtzman of New York likewise pitted the refugees against her constituents. Rep Don Riegle of Michigan sought to bar funds for the refugees. Rep. Joshua Eilberg of Pennsylvania, chairman of a subcommittee on immigration, accused the Ford administration of acting “with unnecessary haste” in evacuation of the orphans.

Pope Francis welcomes to the Vatican the head of a Muslim group tied to the financing of jihad terror.
    September 22, 2017
    Robert Spencer

As if he weren’t already committed enough to foolish false charity and willful ignorance regarding the jihad threat, Pope Francis on Wednesday met in the Vatican with Dr. Muhammad bin Abdul Karim Al-Issa, the secretary general of the Muslim World League (MWL), a group that has been linked to the financing of jihad terror.

During the meeting, al-Issa thanked the Pope for his “fair positions” on what he called the “false claims that link extremism and violence to Islam.” In other words, he thanked the Pope for dissembling about the motivating ideology of jihad terror, which his group has been accused of financing, and for defaming other religions in an effort to whitewash Islam.

I don’t object to the Pope’s meeting this man. After all, Jesus was a friend of tax collectors and sinners. But the meeting appears to have been a pointless feelgood session, probably featuring some sly dawah from al-Issa. According to Breitbart News, “the two men reportedly exchanged views on a number of ‘issues of common interest’ including peace and global harmony, and discussed cooperation on issues of peaceful coexistence and the spread of love.”

  40. California Poised to Provide “Sanctuary” to Alien Criminals and Terrorists
Playing politics with national security and public safety.
    September 22, 2017
    Michael Cutler

On September 18, 2017, roughly one week after the 16th anniversary of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, the LA Times reported on California’s “sanctuary state” bill-SB 54 that would ostensibly “expand protections for immigrants” by preventing officers from questioning and holding people on immigration violations.

To understand the ominousness of this measure, we must look back to the 9/11 Commission’s official “9/11 and Terrorist Travel” report, which focused on the multiple failures of the immigration system that enabled the 9/11 terrorists and other international terrorists to enter the United States and embed themselves as they went about their deadly preparations.

This explicit paragraph explains how sanctuary policies that confound DHS efforts to enforce immigration laws undermines America’s counterterrorism operations:

Thus, abuse of the immigration system and a lack of interior immigration enforcement were unwittingly working together to support terrorist activity. It would remain largely unknown, since no agency of the United States government analyzed terrorist travel patterns until after 9/11. This lack of attention meant that critical opportunities to disrupt terrorist travel and, therefore, deadly terrorist operations were missed.

This is why each and every illegal alien, irrespective of whether or not he/she has a criminal record, must not be shielded from detection by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2017/9/22/houthi-dispute-is-not-political-hadi-tells-un

“The dispute with Yemen’s Houthi rebels is not a political issue that can be resolved on the negotiating tables, President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi said on Thursday.

The conflict with the rebels who overran the capital Sanaa and other major cities in 2014 is a dispute over a common value system, Hadi said.

“The problem in Yemen is not a political one that can only be managed through political dialogue, despite the great efforts and concessions made by the government in this regard,” Hadi said in a speech at the 72nd UN General Assembly in New York.

“It is not even a coup in the conventional sense of coups,” he added.

The president, who has sporadically visited Yemen’s temporary capital while living in neighbouring Saudi Arabia for some two years, slammed the rebels as “an extremist religious group that believes that God gave it an ethnic preference and a divine right to rule.”

The comments coincided with a mass gathering of Houthis and their supporters in Sanaa on Thursday marking the third anniversary since the rebels captured Sanaa and other major cities.

Thousands of supporters descended onto the capital’s iconic Sabaeen Square chanting slogans of support for the rebel group while denouncing the Saudi-led coalition for its military intervention in Yemen.

“From this blessed square we will liberate all of Yemen,” the head of the rebel government, Abdel Aziz bin Habtoor, told the crowds.

“We will not compromise on the liberation of our lands,” he said, accusing coalition members Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates of “direct occupation” of Yemen’s southern and some of its eastern regions.

Captured military vehicles belonging to the United Arab Emirates were paraded among the crowds as a show of defiance toward the coalition which vowed to reinstate the internationally recognised Hadi government three years earlier.

On September 21, 2014, the rebels seized key institutions, including the government headquarters and military sites, with the aid of forces loyal to Saleh.

By January 2015, they forced President Hadi to flee to Yemen’s second city, Aden, which he later declared as a “temporary capital”.

But the conflict escalated in March that year when the Saudi-led coalition launched a military intervention aimed at rolling back Houthi gains and restoring Hadi to power.

The fighting has caused a humanitarian catastrophe which the UN says is the world’s worst, pushing seven million people to the brink of famine and sparking a cholera outbreak that the World Health Organisation says has killed 2,000 people.

More than 10,000 civilians and wounded thousands more, according to the United Nations.

Yemen is today split in two, with the Houthi-Saleh camp controlling the north and coalition-backed pro-government forces in the south. “

“Austria’s Oberbank signed a credit deal with Tehran to boost exports to Iran, the first European lender to do so since sanctions were eased following a 2015 nuclear pact with world powers.

Oberbank said the framework agreement will finance Austrian investment projects in Iran’s infrastructure, healthcare and plant construction sectors.

“We are proud to be the first European bank to have reached this framework agreement after a year and a half of intense negotiations,” Franz Gasselsberger, the director general of the regional bank in Upper Austria, said in a statement.

The deal was “highly anticipated by Austrian exporters”, he said.

“Our clients have numerous projects in the pipeline, which can now be implemented.”

According to Iran’s central bank, the contract is worth one billion euro ($1.2 billion) and will benefit 14 Iranian banks.

“The Austrian bank’s resources will be allocated to finance authorised state and private infrastructure and production projects,” the Tehran-based central bank said in a statement published on its website.

Oberbank, which continued to maintain relations with Iran even while international sanctions were in place, said it was “prepared” in case the US pulled out of the landmark nuclear deal – something US President Donald Trump has threatened to do.

Under the deal signed between Tehran and six world powers, Iran agreed to curb its nuclear programme in exchange for the relief of crippling economic sanctions.

But Trump has called the pact negotiated under his predecessor Barack Obama the “worst deal in history”, and threatened to pull out if Iran does not face greater controls on its missile and nuclear programs.

Many European banks have remained wary of penalties from Washington for resuming business with Iran.

Oberbank increased its net profit by 8.9 percent to 181 million euros in 2016, with total assets worth 19.16 billion.

It owns a 26-percent stake in the Italian UniCredit bank.”

  44. Egypt proposes stripping citizenship from individuals posing a ‘security threat’ to the state (alaraby, Sep 22, 2017)
    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2017/9/22/egypt-proposes-stripping-citizenship-from-individuals-posing-security-threat

“Egypt’s Cabinet proposed on Wednesday an amendment to the law regulating conditions for withdrawal of citizenship, to include those convicted of crimes relating to “threatening state security”.

The proposed amendment to Article 26/1975 opens grounds for stripping citizenship from members of any group or entity – based at home or abroad – seen to be “illegally working to undermine the state’s political, social or economic order”, according to a government statement.

The new amendment needs to be approved by parliament and later ratified by the president before it comes into force.

A judicial source told The New Arab that despite “major constitutional problems the amendment poses, there will be strong attempts to make it pass”.

The current law provides for the withdrawal of citizenship if it is acquired through fraudulent means.

Authorities have already stripped citizenship from scores of people who acquired it during the one-year rule of the then-democratically elected Islamist president Mohamed Morsi.

Most current detainees in Egypt are alleged supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, which rose to power after the 2011 uprising that toppled President Hosni Mubarak but has been the target of a crackdown since the military overthrew Morsi in 2013.

In 2015, President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi approved a new law that defines “terrorist entities” as groups or individuals who call to “undermine laws, obstruct the functioning of state institutions, seek to attack the personal liberty of citizens or harm national unity of social peace”.

Egypt has since detained more than 60,000 people, while hundreds have been forcibly disappeared and hundreds more have been received death sentences as part of mass trials.”
