In this regard, the federal government has prepared a three-option ‘toughest diplomatic policy’.
According to federal sources on Sunday, the policy includes gradually limiting diplomatic relations with the US, reducing mutual cooperation on terrorism-related issues and non-cooperation in US strategy for Afghanistan.
The last option may include a ban on using Pakistani land for Nato supplies to Afghanistan.

“As the academic year begins at the University of Geneva (Unige), a new programme is on offer that aims to help imams in Switzerland integrate into Swiss society.
Speaking to La Tribune de Genève, Unige’s rector Yves Flückiger said the new programme would include courses in French language, political philosophy, human rights and ethics.
The optional programme is open to imams and people who teach in Islamic centres and has come out of discussions with Geneva cantonal government, he said.
Though normally participants would pay for it, the pilot year is being funded by Unige and the canton, which will cover the 10,000 franc per person costs for 10-12 participants.
“Our mission is not to train imams but to contribute to their integration,” said Flückiger.
Besides the programme for imams, the university will also offer courses teaching Islamic theology to all students, and a series of conferences focusing on Islamic thought.
The initiative is in keeping with the university’s international outlook, Flückiger said, in the same vein as last year’s new scheme, Horizon Academique, which allowed 35 refugee students to sit in on classes for free.”

DAILY MAIL – Bangladesh frets about population boom in Rohingya camps
Bangladesh has launched a birth control drive in its overcrowded Rohingya refugee camps, an official said Tuesday, fearing a population boom would worsen the humanitarian crisis unfolding along its border.
Family planning teams have been deployed to offer advice and distribute condoms and other contraceptives throughout its ill-equipped camps, which have been overwhelmed by the arrival of 420,000 Rohingya refugees since August 25.
Authorities have already identified 70,000 new or expectant mothers among the latest influx from Myanmar, and fear without intervention the population pressures could worsen in coming months as the crisis drags on.
“They have six, seven, eight, nine, 10 children,” said Pintu Kanti Bhattacharjee, head of the government’s family planning department in Cox’s Bazar district where the camps are located.
“We are very worried. If they are here for another six months to a year, another 20,000 children will be born.”
Mothers with newborns, pregnant women and enormous families with more than 10 children are not uncommon among the camps.
Bangladesh is building a large new camp to accommodate hundreds of thousands of these new arrivals fleeing violence across the border, but space is stretched very thin.
Whole families are sleeping outdoors and squatting in farmland, roadsides and vacant buildings, with competition for food, shelter and other essentials intensifying as the number of new arrivals climbs.
Bhattacharjee said officials on the ground were “counselling” new Rohingya arrivals about family planning, a new concept for many, and trying to prevent unwanted pregnancies.
Officials on the ground were distributing contraceptives to men and women with mixed results, he added.
Mujibur Rahman, a Rohingya man in the Kutupalong refugee camp in Ukhia, was open to the condoms and birth control pills he received in a handout.
“These will definitely help us,” the 25-year-old told AFP.
But others were not so sure.
“I thought it was a food pack,” said Mohammad Mostafiz, a 40-year-old Rohingya man, who has two wives and 14 children.
“IT IS OUR RELIGIOUS DUTY TO HAVE CHILDREN “.Using medicines to prevent childbirth is a sin. I don’t think my family will use this stuff.”

Police on Tuesday cleared squatters and dismantled shanties around Kutupalong, one of the largest camps, where the roads are choked with refugees and long queues of traffic snake from aid centres.
Police warned those squatting on roadsides they could be arrested if they refused to move. The government has been trying to herd refugees into designated areas, fearful that nearby cities could be overwhelmed if they are left unchecked.

Eiffel Tower starts work on anti-terror upgrade

Works began Monday to boost security at the Eiffel Tower as an anti-terrorism measure, city hall said, with bulletproof glass walls set to go up around the world’s most visited monument.

It’s frankly weird that this is being reported now. After all this time, why would it have just come out?
The suspicion has to be that the purpose of leaking this information is to prepare the infospace for an indictment of Manafort, which the rumor mill has just cranked up about.
The “Manafort indictment” news isn’t new, however. For one thing, the likelihood of an indictment was reportedly made clear to Manafort back in July (see the last link), when federal agents raided his home in Virginia.
But for another, the Daily Caller had the story about a probable Manafort indictment two weeks ago. The New York Times story that’s reverberating in the MSM echo chamber today isn’t a revelation. It just seems to be a carefully timed disclosure to one of the Washington establishment’s most cooperative media outlets.
Naturally, Trump supporters are tweeting furiously that Trump is vindicated. His campaign was “wiretapped,” just as Trump tweeted it was.

“Two Iraqi men have been arrested in the German capital on suspicion of membership in a terrorist organization and war crimes as part of the Islamic State group, federal prosecutors said Tuesday.
A 31-year-old, identified only as Raad Riyadh A. A. in line with privacy laws, and 19-year-old Abbas R. were both arrested Monday in Berlin, prosecutors’ spokeswoman Frauke Koehler said. They’re both alleged to have joined IS in Mosul in June 2014 and participated in the killing of two Shiite Muslims.
Four months later, prosecutors said, they were involved in the execution of a captured Iraqi military officer.
While in Iraq, Raad Riyadh A.A. is also accused of extorting money from businesses to support IS and procuring weapons from the Iraqi army and police forces for the group.
After arriving in Germany in July 2015, Raad Riyadh A.A. tried to recruit two other Iraqis and convince a third to carry out a suicide attack, Koehler said.

Bombings and other terrorist attacks are now a common feature of life in modern Europe. On just one day (September 15, 2017), an improvised explosive device was placed on a London Underground train, a man wielding a knife and shouting “Allah” attacked a soldier in Paris, and a man with a hammer shouting “Allahu Akbar” badly wounded two women in Lyon. As the former Prime Minister of France and the present Mayor of London have put it, perhaps this is all just a price we have to pay for living in big cities in Europe in the 21st century: we have traffic congestion, great restaurants and terrorist attacks.
Of course, the public are all the time worrying about other things — not just whether all this is just a taste of something worse to come, but whether anything might be done to stop it. While our political leaders continue to view this as a narrow security-related question, the public can see that it is also a border-security and mass-immigration issue. Across the continent, poll after poll shows the European public continuously calling for migration into Europe to be slowed down. This plea is not due to some atavistic urge or distasteful racist instinct, but something that the public seems to intuit better than their politicians — which is that if you do not have control of your borders, with a meaningful set of immigration laws and the right to keep people out of your country then you do not really have a country.
Since the upsurge in Europe’s migration crisis in 2015, when Germany’s Chancellor Angela Merkel unilaterally decided to suspend normal border checks and turn an already existing flow of migrants into a tidal wave, politicians and the public have divided from each other over this issue. While the public want their representatives to control their borders, politicians seem to see only political capital in running the other way. In part this is because there appears to be some kind of “bonus” to be achieved by looking welcoming and kindly in contrast to the unwelcoming and mean things that borders now appear to represent.

St. Louis was rocked Monday by a third consecutive night of riots organized and carried out by Black Lives Matter after a white cop was acquitted Friday of first-degree murder in the death of a notorious black criminal.
At time of writing, ABC News was reporting that “more than 160 people have now been now arrested, as police have been aggressively arresting more people to curb property destruction and police assaults.”
The virulently racist Black Lives Matter movement, which, along with its Antifa allies should be designated a terrorist organization, has long welcomed the deaths of blacks at the hands of law enforcement, treatment their passing as a profit center and recruitment opportunity. INDIA – Man held at Mangaluru airport (India) after alleged cell phone bomb found in check-in luggage
In a major scare at Mangalore airport on Tuesday, a Dubai-bound passenger’s power bank was found to have a suspicious clay-like object in his check-in baggage.
The flight is question was an Indigo Airlines aircraft plying directly from Mangaluru to Dubai.
“IndiGo’s alert security screener staff at Mangalore caught a suspect carrying alleged cellphone bomb today. The matter has been reported to the local police. Since it is a sensitive security matter we have nothing more to share. IndiGo is committed to providing the highest levels of safety and security for its passengers at all times,” the airliner said.
“The passenger was booked on IndiGo’s flight 6E877 from Mangalore to Bangalore at 10 pm on Tuesday and then he was to travel from Bangalore to Dubai on IndiGo flight 6E95 Wednesday (September 20) at 7.20 am. While screening his checked in baggage at Mangalore, the screener noticed that a power bank was in his bag which looked suspicious (as it showed a green colored thick image). The screener did a physical check and opened the power bank to check and noticed a clay like substance in the power bank,” said a senior official.
The screener raised an alarm and the Central Industrial Security Force dog squad was pressed into service. While the dog squad gave “mixed signal of positive and negative”. An explosive trace detection test was conducted which showed it was not an explosive.

The bill would be signed by Governor Brown who hasn’t released his own tax returns.

U.S. President Donald Trump is seeking to be true to the promises he made during the 2016 presidential campaign. As a candidate, Trump called the Iran deal “the worst deal ever,” and he pledged to tear it down if elected president. Since then, as president of the U.S., he has moderated his tone. Yet, last month he said that Iran “is not in compliance with the agreement,” and added that he did not believe that he would again declare Iran to be abiding by the deal, come October.
Last May, the U.S. Treasury issued new sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran, more specific in scope, targeting senior Iranian defense officials, and suppliers of missile equipment. This was in retaliation for the recent missile test Iran conducted and its support of Syria’s dictator Bashar al-Assad. At the same time however, the White House renewed the waivers on more widespread sanctions, which are not permanent, and were due to expire. Trump has reluctantly renewed the agreement signed by former President Obama before he left office.
President Trump, according to the BBC, “has consistently warned Iran over its missile activity, and has criticized the terms of the nuclear deal made by Obama – at one point claiming his ‘number one priority’ if elected would be to dismantle the disastrous deal.” Yet, the Trump administration has continued to certify to Congress that Iran is upholding its part of the deal, which the administration must do every 90 days. In April, President Trump ordered a wider review of the nuclear deal, and Secretary Rex Tillerson announced that Iran “remains a leading state sponsor of terror, through many platforms and methods.”

The police officer, an unnamed member of the urban security team at the Mantes-la-Jolie police station on the outskirts of Paris, has been accused of abusing his authority and charged with one count of assault after the alleged incident took place during an interrogation in early March.
But the officer continues to claim his innocence, arguing he acted in “self-defence”.
The police officer told the court that the suspect – a 40-something Algerian who was being questioned by police over claims he had tried to extort money from his mother and physically assaulted her after she refused to comply – is a dangerous “would-be jihadist”.
He added that he had taken the death threats issued against him that day “very seriously”.
The officer told the judges: “The suspect, who was being interrogated by myself and my colleagues, was being particularly hostile and was refusing to answer questions about the alleged extortion attempt and assault… And then all of a sudden, he stood up, inched closer to me and made as if to hit me. And so I punched him… I acted in self-defence.
“He was hurling insults at me and threatening to kill me in the name of Allah. This man is a jihadist in the making.”
The police officer, a former boxer who towers at 1.90m and weighs 100kg, said his punch was a “proportionate defensive response” to the death threats, arguing that the suspect had only been “slightly injured” after receiving a “single blow to the cheekbone”.
The Algerian man, whose identity also remains unknown, was for his part handed a 15-month prison sentence for verbally assaulting a person in authority.
The suspect has an extensive criminal past, and was well known to police long before the March incident for aggravated assault, contempt and rebellion.”

“A KEY suspect in the Paris terror attacks has been on the loose for more than two years despite being hunted by police, according to reports.
The suspect, who is also believed to have been involved in the foiled attack on a high-speed train in August 2015, is still being actively searched by police.
Known only by his Islamic State alias Abou Walid, the suspect is said to have had close ties to Abdelhamid Abaaoud, the mastermind of the Paris attacks who was killed killed in a police raid shortly after the massacre.
A judicial source told France Inter radio the suspect appears to have “vanished into thin air” and that the jihadist’s current whereabouts “remain unknown”.
The insider said: “Abou Walid is the person who is thought to have driven Mr Abaaoud to Brussels in August 2015. Mr Abaaoud had just returned from Syria to plan the Paris attacks, which were successfully launched three months later.”
French police also believe that Abou Walid, whose true identity remains a mystery, also played a key logistics role in the failed attack on a Thalys train from Amsterdam to Paris in August 2015, which was prevented after four passengers helped overpower the alleged would-be gunman, Ayoub el-Khazzani, a 28-year-old Moroccan national who is currently awaiting trial.
Abou Walid is said to have driven Mr el-Khazzani to the Brussels train station where he boarded the Thalys train.
Valid is also believed to have supplied Mr el-Khazzani with the weapons used in the attack, while it is reported he packed the alleged attacker’s travel bag.
The judicial source added that Mr el-Khazzani had told investigative magistrates that the man known as Abou Walid is “a Belgian national of Turkish origin who is in his mid-twenties”.
The insider added: “He speaks French and at least one other language – either Flemish or German.””

Iran-Backed Hizbullah’s New Strength
Hizbullah has emerged from the Syrian conflict stronger and more powerful than ever, thanks to a steady stream of funds and advanced weaponry from its patron, Iran. At the behest of Iran, Hizbullah has been training thousands of Shiite militiamen in Iraq and Yemen, spreading its military might across the region and leading to concern that Iran might be trying to remake the Middle East, with Hizbullah as Iran’s enforcer.
Andrew Exum, a fellow at the Center for a New American Security who was a deputy assistant secretary of defense in the Obama administration, said Iran is committed to expanding across the region – no matter the price. “They haven’t been shy about talking about their regional ambitions,” he said. “Iran very much sees this as a zero-sum game with America for influence in the Middle East.”
Despite Hizbullah’s bravado, in another war with Israel the resulting devastation would likely engulf Lebanon. Gen. Giora Eiland, former head of Israel’s National Security Council, said, “The army of Lebanon is fully subordinate to the word of Hizbullah….That is why it is much more just and moral to hold the government and the people of Lebanon as accountable for Hizbullah.”

This piece purports to be inclusive – a Lebanese Christian expresses qualified approval of Hezbollah. Odd. There was an Iranian-funded Lebanese Christian terrorist organization, but it was ethnically cleansed in 2006. Not many Christians left in southern Lebanon. Could’ve dredged up a Druze, but that might be beyond the ken of the latte-sipping reporter.

Hizb’Allah would be a proper way to spell Party of Allah I should think.
They’re all transliterations. As such, flexible. When English doesn’t use a sound, it’s hard to represent the phoneme.
The glottal stop – Hizb’Allah – is represented with the apostrophe and capital “A” because English doesn’t have a glottal stop. So why bother with fancy spelling? It won’t be accurate anyway. It becomes consistent through conventional usage.
Transliterations from the Arabic vary in accordance with regional dialects. Canonical versions exist for translations from classical Arabic, but political correctness adds another layer to the confusion: Koran or Quran?
For that matter, is it “Hanukkah” or “Chanukah”?
Modern Hebrew transliteration or Classical? Maybe as popularized in Yiddish?
The holiday assumed an importance not related to Biblical Judaism among Ashkenazim to offset Christmas. Sephardim and Mizrahim might incorporate the celebration as a gift from the cultural imperialists and keep the Yiddish name.
Eventually it gets straightened out in Israel. Everybody learns Modern Hebrew and a script that’s phonetic and consistent.

The Iran Nuclear Deal: One Option for the U.S.
?The U.S. administration’s larger message about Iran is that the problems it poses go far beyond the nuclear program. These include support for terrorism and criminal enterprises, threats to strategic waterways, and ballistic missile development.
One option would be to decertify Iran’s compliance with the deal but not reinstate sanctions, not yet anyway. “Trump can decertify on the condition that the JCPOA is not in the U.S. national interest,” says Mark Dubowitz, executive director of the Foundation for Defense of Democracies. “Then it goes to Congress for debate for 60 days where the president needs to lay out a persuasive case that this is not the time for Congress to reinstate sanctions and abrogate the deal.”
Dubowitz says this tactic not only puts Iran on notice but gives our European allies plenty of advance warning to develop a common policy on how to fix the fatally flawed nuclear deal. Everyone needs to understand that the U.S. is prepared to reimpose sanctions instead of giving Iran patient pathways to nuclear weapons and ICBMs.

Iran is smuggling increasingly potent weapons into Yemen, US Admiral says
….The officer, Vice Admiral Kevin M. Donegan, said that Iran is sustaining the Houthis with an increasingly potent arsenal of anti-ship and ballistic missiles, deadly sea mines and even explosive boats that have attacked allied ships in the Red Sea or Saudi territory across Yemen’s northern border. The United States, the Yemeni government and their allies in the region have retaliated with strikes of their own and recaptured some Houthi-held coastal areas to help blunt threats to international shipping, but the peril persists, the admiral said.
“These types of weapons did not exist in Yemen before the conflict,” said Admiral Donegan. “It’s not rocket science to conclude that the Houthis are getting not only these systems but likely training and advice and assistance in how to use them.”

Admiral Donegan’s most pointed accusations focused on suspected Iranian assistance to the Houthi rebels. The United States and other Western governments have provided vast quantities of weapons, and other forms of military support, to the embattled Yemeni government and its allies in a coalition led by Saudi Arabia, contributing to violence that the U.N. says has caused more than 10,000 civilian casualties.
The admiral’s charges appear supported, at least in part, by findings in a report late last year by Conflict Armament Research, a private arms consultancy. The report concluded that the available evidence pointed to an apparent “weapon pipeline, extending from Iran to Somalia and Yemen, which involves the transfer, by dhow, of significant quantities of Iranian-manufactured weapons and weapons that plausibly derive from Iranian stockpiles.”
For years, Iran has been under a series of international sanctions prohibiting it from exporting arms. The U.S. has frequently claimed that Tehran has violated the sanctions in support of proxy forces in many conflicts, including in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and the Palestinian territories.
Between September 2015 through March 2016, allied warships interdicted four Iranian dhows that yielded, in total, more than 80 antitank guided missiles and 5,000 Kalashnikov rifles as well as sniper rifles, machine guns and almost 300 rocket-propelled grenade launchers, according to data provided by the U.S. Navy.
Admiral Donegan said that while there have been no seizures since, he said he suspects Iran’s hand in the Houthis’ apparent ability to replenish and improve their arms stockpiles. “It is not something that was a one-time deal and stopped,” Admiral Donegan said. “It appears to be progressive.”
