  2. US slams allies Saudi Arabia, Bahrain for persecuting religious minorities in damning report (alaraby, Aug 16, 2017)
    https://www.alaraby.co.uk/english/news/2017/8/15/us-slams-saudi-arabia-in-damning-religious-freedom-report

“The United States issued its annual religious freedom report on Tuesday, slamming its allies in the Gulf, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, for persecuting religious minorities.

Launching the first report since Trump took office, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson took swipes at Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Iran, Sudan, Turkey, Pakistan and China.

Tillerson, who gave a brief address to launch the report, urged Riyadh to “embrace greater degrees of religious freedom for all of its citizens”.

“The government does not recognise the right of non-Muslims to practice their religion in public and applied criminal penalties including prison sentences, lashings, and fines for apostasy, atheism, blasphemy and insulting the state’s interpretation of Islam,” he said.

He added that Saudi authorities were attacking Shia Muslims and allowing social prejudice and discrimination against the minority, which makes up around 15 percent of the country.

Saudi security forces have recently sealed off a Shia-majority town in the east of the country, demolishing large sections of the town following months of unrest.

Similarly, Tillerson slammed the Gulf state of Bahrain for the detention of Shia clerics and political activists.

“Members of the Shia community there continue to report ongoing discrimination in government employment, education, and the justice system,” he said.

Bahrain has been ruled for more than 200 years by the Sunni Al Khalifa dynasty.

The kingdom has been gripped by unrest since 2011, when the country’s majority Shia population took to the streets to demand an elected government.

The report, however, failed to look into policy in the US, where Trump won office on a pledge to ban all Muslim immigration and is now battling US courts for the right to ban arrivals from eight mainly-Muslim states. The report did not contain criticism of key US ally Israel either, despite its restrictions on the religious freedoms of Palestinians under occupation.

Tillerson and the report called out the Islamic State group, China, Iran, Pakistan, Sudan and Turkey for persecuting, stigmatising or otherwise restricting the rights of religious minorities.”

  3. Several killed in suicide bombings at Nigeria refugee camp (france24, Aug 16, 2017)
    http://www.france24.com/en/20170816-several-killed-suicide-bomings-nigeria-refugee-camp

“Three women suicide bombers blew themselves up at the entrance to a camp for displaced people in northeast Nigeria on Tuesday, killing 28 people and wounding 82, local sources said.

The attack — the latest in a string of assaults in the troubled region — took place in the town of Mandarari, 25 kilometres (15 miles) from Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, said Baba Kura, a member of a vigilante force set up to fight jihadists.

“Three female bombers triggered their explosive outside of the IDP (internally displaced persons) camp… killing 28 people and wounding 82 others,” Kura said.

The first assailant blew herself up, triggering panic, Kura said.

“People were trying to close their shops when two other female bombers triggered their explosives, causing most of the casualties,” he said.

Ibrahim Liman, the head of a local anti-jihadist militia force, confirmed the details of the attack, and said that more than 80 injured had been taken to Maiduguri hospital.

A source at the hospital said a “huge number” of patients had arrived.

“ISIS has named a female British doctor as the head of its health department in Iraq, it has been reported.

A security source told local media: “IS selected a British female doctor from Sudanese origin, who arrived to Nineveh via Syria two years ago, to head the group’s health department after the group’s health minister was killed in an airstrike in Hawija.

“The doctor was one of eight doctors who fled London to join IS.”

She is reported to be the first woman to head the group’s health department.

  5. ‘You will be targeted’ Libyan coastguard issues warning to Spanish migrant rescue boat (express, Aug 16, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/841613/Libya-news-coastguard-threat-migrant-crisis-rescue-ships-Tripoli

“THE Libyan coastguard has issued another terrifying warning as it demanded a Spanish ship rescuing migrants in the Mediterranean leave its waters.

The warning is the latest in a series of incidents in which charities rescuing migrants trying to cross from Africa to Italy have been threatened.

And today, it was the turn of the Golfo Azzurro, operated by Spanish humanitarian organisation Proactiva Open Arms.

The rescue boat was repeatedly contacted by a Libyan coastguard vessel, saying: “You are sailing in our waters for months now and you are conducting activities that are causing problems to Libyan state sovereignty.

“Therefore I ask you to alter your course towards Tripoli port. If you do not obey the orders right now… you will be targeted.”…”

  6. YouTube ‘wipe out evidence of brutal ISIS regime’ in heavy handed jihadi video purge (express, Aug 16, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/841671/YouTube-IS-ISIS-Islamic-State-jihadi-Syria-Iraq-Bellingcat-Airwars

“YOUTUBE has been accused of removing “irreplaceable” videos of the war against ISIS in a heavy handed attempt to remove radicalising footage created by jihadis.

The video sharing site has previously come under fire for carrying videos used to radicalise would-be ISIS fighters, including the three musketeers who plotted a pipe bomb attack in the UK before being caught in an undercover sting operation.

Now in a bid to cut down on ISIS inspired content on the site with automatic “machine learning”, YouTube has been criticised for censoring historic accounts of the barbaric rule of ISIS in Syria.

YouTube’s rules allow footage of violence on the site as long as the “primary purpose” of any video is “educational, documentary, scientific or artistic”.

But academics and observers claim their footage of the conflict has been removed, with one describing the crackdown as a “total flop”.

The streaming site revealed last month it had started “developing and implementing cutting-edge machine learning technology designed to help us identify and remove violent extremism and terrorism-related content”.

But Eliot Higgins, a research associate at King’s College London and founder of the investigative website Bellingcat, claimed the machine learning system had thrown up “loads of false positives, removing irreplaceable documentation of the conflict”.

He added: “It appears all videos are being checked for violations, including videos that were uploaded years ago.

“This means for Syrian opposition YouTube channels, which have uploaded hundreds, if not thousands, of videos per channel, they need only a few videos posted in the last five years that violate the new policy to have their entire channels removed.”

Chris Woods, director of the NGO airways who catalogue coalition footage of airstrikes in Syria, Iraq and Libya, revealed three of his videos had been suspended.

He told the Times: “I have looked at the videos involved and they appear entirely arbitrary.

“They are filmed from high above, with no bodies and no blood.

“It seems perverse that a conflict like Syria that has affected so many children should now be seen as adult-only.

“This is a record of war. Because of the absence of conventional media, Syrians have taken to social media.”…”

  7. Five ISIS leaders executed for COWARDICE as jihadists face annihilation (express, Aug 16, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/841699/isis-jihadists-mosul-iraq-war-cowardice

“ISIS has executed five of its leaders for cowardice as US-led coalition forces advanced on the terror groups final strongholds in Syria and Iraq.

A paramilitary official from the Shia-led al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilisation Units), revealed the terror group turned on its vile leaders in central Iraq and sentenced them to death on Tuesday.

He said: “ISIS executed five leaders in Annah town, west of Ramadi, and punished others.

“The group accused the slain and punished leaders of reluctance especially after several members were killed and injured by army and paramilitary troops over the past few days.”

A source from the army’s command said on Monday that there have been intensive strikes in the towns of Annah and Rawa…”

Despite the backlash, the White House is standing by the president, saying he was ‘entirely correct’ to blame ‘both sides,’ according to a talking points memo

      • If the antifa/BLM side wins their will be mass murder of all who opposed them, if the White Supremacist win there will be genocide against all they consider inferior.

The problem we face is that to the left all who oppose them are part of the White Supremacist movement and thus are targets for murder. One of the things they are trying to do (and succeeding on a much larger scale then is comfortable) to make the uninformed voter types believe that we who oppose the destruction of Western Civilization are racist who belong to Whir Supremacist groups. There are no good solutions to this problem.

    • Thank you, Johnnyu.

“We’re living through the most extraordinary period of monetary printing in all of human history. It’s as widespread as it is delusional.

One of the most perplexing mysteries to us is that right as the Federal Reserve embarked on QE3 — which was a huge, enormous, $85 billion a month experiment — commodities began a multiyear decline within two weeks of that announcement. Concurrently, the world’s central banks plunged the world into steeply negative real interest rates, a condition that has almost always resulted in booming commodity prices — but not this time. Today, the ratio between commodity prices and equities is at one of, if not the most, extreme points in history.

To explain that gap, we talk this week with Brien Lundin, publisher of Gold Newsletter and producer of the New Orleans Investment Conference (where Chris and Adam are speaking on Oct 25-28):”

    • So…What’s so special about gold? If it’s what they tell us: that it’s a barbaric relic and it has no use in society, then why be so secretive about it? Why be so reluctant to have your citizens own it? That alone tells you all you really need to know.

I don’t know how the world has escaped another major recession/depression since 2008 but one has been building and at some point is going to hit no matter what every Central Bank in the world can do. When it hits things are going to get real bad, the Marxists economic policies of the Worlds nations have only made things worse, and if continued once the crisis hits will make it much worse then it needs to be. Like FDRs Marxist actoins turned a mild depression into a grest depression.

    • Refugee claimants found in possession of child porn at Quebec border

Multiple refugee claimants have been found in possession of child pornography at or near the Quebec border crossing where an influx of hundreds of asylum seekers crossing from New York state has led the Canadian government to set up a border camp, Global News has learned.

In a memorandum to officers of the Canadian Border Services Agency this week, acting CBSA assistant director Daniel St-Arnaud outlines a set of guidelines for officers at and near the St-Bernard-de-Lacolle crossing to deal with the illicit material. The guidelines will “come into effect immediately” and remain until national guidelines are put in place.

According to a source, officials in St-Bernard-de-Lacolle have in recent months found “four or five” refugee claimants from Haiti in possession of child pornography, which prompted the memorandum.

A spokesperson for Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Ralph Goodale confirmed two cases have resulted in criminal proceedings. “We can confirm that, following an investigation, two people have been charged by the Quebec Direction des Poursuites Criminelles et Pénales with possession and importation of child pornography,” said Dan Brien. “The matter remains under adjudication.”

Brien said the CBSA maintains “rigorous security measures,” and said of the charges, “This is an indication of the security system that is in place and that it is working well.”

Last week, the Canadian government deployed soldiers to set up tents near St-Bernard-de-Lacolle, which sits across the border from Champlain, New York, in order to temporarily house hundreds of asylum seekers, most of which are Haitians who fear deportation by the United States government. The city of Montreal, which is 60 kilometres from the border point, last week said it is receiving between 250 and 300 asylum claimants who crossed the Canada-U.S. border every day — the number is up from 50 per day in the first half of July.

The CBSA document advises officers at legal border crossings that “if child pornography or any other prohibited material is found” to notify the CBSA’s Intelligence Division, which will contact either the CBSA Criminal Investigation unit or Quebec’s provincial police force, the Sûreté du Québec, “to assess whether there are sufficient grounds to initiate an investigation.”

An investigation by the CBSA or SQ could determine there are grounds to lay criminal charges, which would also result in a refugee claimant’s file to be put on hold for the duration of criminal proceedings.

Earlier this year, in February, New York police arrested Benz K. Benoit, a 36-year old Haitian national, after the CBSA held him in custody on suspicions he was in possession of child pornography. After being returned to U.S. authorities, he was charged with one count of promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child and one count of possessing an obscene sexual performance by a child.

In cases where child pornography is found in the possession of claimants who cross illegally between border points, the CBSA document says the Royal Canadian Mounted Police has jurisdiction to investigate, or to transfer the case to the SQ, both of which could also lead to criminal charges and the claimant’s asylum file being put on hold during criminal proceedings.

However, according to the document, in cases where the RCMP seizes child pornography from an asylum keeper but decides not to lay charges “the CBSA must accept that decision” and process their claim.

“The fact that this document leaves some ambiguity as to what happens to an asylum claim if the RCMP seizes child pornography but doesn’t press forward with an investigation is something I think a lot of Canadians would take issue with,” said Conservative immigration critic Michelle Rempel, in an interview with Global News.

Rempel said the border arrests comprised one part of broader concerns that the opposition has about the government’s management of Canada’s refugee system. Earlier this month, Global News reported on a CBSA document which suggested that Somalis with criminal records, who fear being deported by the US, have been crossing illegally into Canada near the Emerson, Manitoba border.

“This is a troubling pattern where we’re seeing people with criminal records or involved in criminal activity come across the border,” added Rempel. “I think that Justin Trudeau has been irresponsible in his language around how Canada’s asylum system should be accessed. I think he needs to be much more clear that you shouldn’t be entering Canada illegally and he should be more clear about the expectations that our system has in terms of legitimate claims so that our asylum system can be focused on helping the world’s most vulnerable.”

  12. Furious Germany takes on EU: ECB attacked over £1.8TRILLION quantitive easing programme (express, Aug 16, 2017)
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/841772/Germany-EU-ECB-quantitative-easing-court

“THE European Central Bank (ECB) has been accused of breaking European Union (EU) laws over its £1.8trillion quantitative easing programme.

Germany’s constitutional court said yesterday it will refer a case launched by Angela Merkel’s Government to the European Court of Justice.

Judges said there was evidence decisions about the programme overstepped the ECB’s mandate and broke a ban on purchasing bonds directly from governments, which amounts to monetary financing.

In a statement, the court said: “In the view of the court significant reasons indicate that the ECB decisions governing the asset purchase programme violate the prohibition of monetary financing and exceed the monetary policy mandate of the European Central Bank.

“It is doubtful whether the (purchase of government bonds under QE) is compatible with the prohibition of monetary financing.”

If the ECB is found to have violated EU law Germany’s central bank, the Bundesbank, would be forbidden from taking part in the QE programme alongside other national central banks operating under the ECB.

The Bundesbank has bought about £9.1billion in government bonds ever month, making it the biggest purchaser of government debt in the EU.

A ECJ ruling could take more than a year, and the programme could have ended by then.

Handrik Haag, partner at German law firm Hengeler Mueller, told the Financial Times: “The wait for the ECJ decision may well be an elegant way out for the ECB.

“It may put pressure on the ECB to be a little bit quicker with tapering the QE programme.”

The ECB has been hoping to avoid legal challenges in Germany as central bank bond purchases have been heavily criticised by politicians and economists.

The ECB said: “The extended asset purchase programme is in our opinion fully within our mandate…”

  14. USA – WA – Police identify Kennewick man killed in sword attack

Kennewick police identified the man wielding a sword who was shot and killed by officers Sunday night.

Hussein Hassan, 46, of Kennewick, was walking on Olympia Street near 10th Avenue with the sword about 6:30 p.m. Witnesses said he seemed to be trying to hide the weapon with a newspaper.

When Kennewick Officer Jason Kiel got out of his car to talk with him, Hassan charged and started hitting Kiel in the head with the sword.

Just then, a second officer, Joshua Kuhn arrived. Kiel managed to pull back and both policemen drew their weapons and fired at Hassan.

Hassan was taken to Trios Southridge Hospital, where he died, said a police news release. Kiel suffered a head injury and was treated at Trios and later released.

Benton County Coroner John Hansens said a formal autopsy for Hassan is scheduled for 9 a.m. Wednesday.

The Tri-City Special Investigations Unit is continuing its investigation into the shooting. The special unit includes officers from other law enforcement agencies in the area. The agency involved in the shooting does not participate.

Kuhn and Kiel are on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.

Kuhn has been an officer for 15 years. He was involved in the 2014 shooting death of Aaron T. Wright, 32, after he led police on a chase in a stolen car and pointed a pellet gun at officers. The Benton County Prosecutor’s Office cleared the three police officers involved of any wrong doing.

Kiel has almost 20 years combined service with the Kennewick Police Department and the Washington State Patrol. He was named Kennewick’s officer of the year in 2014.

Benton County Sheriff’s Sgt. Bob Brockman is asking anyone who may have video of the shooting or saw what happened to call 509-735-6555.

    • ZeroHedge- Why Was This ‘Crowd Hire’ Company Recruiting $25 An Hour ‘Political Activists’ In Charlotte Last Week?

Trump ignited a political firestorm yesterday during an impromptu press conference in which he said there was “blame on both sides” for the tragic events that occurred in Charlottesville over the weekend.

Now, the discovery of a craigslist ad posted last Monday, almost a full week before the Charlottesville protests, is raising new questions over whether paid protesters were sourced by a Los Angeles based “public relations firm specializing in innovative events” to serve as agitators in counterprotests.

The ad was posted by a company called “Crowds on Demand” and offered $25 per hour to “actors and photographers” to participate in events in the “Charlotte, NC area.” While the ad didn’t explicitly define a role to be filled by its crowd of “actors and photographers” it did ask applicants to comment on whether they were “ok with participating in peaceful protests.” Here is the text from the ad:

    • the daily caller – Woman Who Destroyed Durham Confederate Statue Is A Pro-North Korea Marxist

One of the activists who toppled a Confederate statue in Durham, N.C., on Monday night is a member of an extreme leftist group that supports the totalitarian regime in North Korea and wants to abolish capitalism.

Taqiyah Thompson, a student at North Carolina Central University, was arrested Tuesday following a press conference in which she defended the actions of the demonstrators and equated police officers to Confederate soldiers and Ku Klux Klan members.

“I did the right thing,” she said. “Everyone who was there — the people did the right thing. The people will continue to keep making the right choices until every Confederate statue is gone, until white supremacy is gone. That statue is where it belongs. It needs to be in the garbage.”

Thompson is a member of the Worker’s World Party (WWP), a revolutionary Marxist-Leninist group originally formed in 1959 as a hard-line offshoot of the more moderate Socialist Workers Party. In addition to supporting a wide range of far-left causes, the group also defends the North Korean regime of dictator Kim Jong-un against alleged U.S. imperialism.

The Durham Branch of the WWP called for Monday’s demonstration in “solidarity” with local anti-racist and anti-fascist forces, according to the group’s website. The group says it organized the protest in response to events in Charlottesville, Va., on Saturday where three people were killed when a white supremacist rally descended into street battles with counter-protesters.

Video of the gathering shows Thompson climbing to the top of the statue and placing a rope around its neck the before fellow protesters pulled it down from its base.

The day after pulling down the statue, Thompson and fellow WWP members gathered at North Carolina Central University to demand that demonstrators receive amnesty from prosecution. Thompson argued that that Durham’s law enforcement officers were agents of white supremacy akin to Confederate soldiers and hate groups.

“If we understand history, we know that those boys who wore the gray, today they wear blue, and they wear sheets over their heads,” she said, referring to Ku Klux Klan garb.

Durham police took Thompson into custody following the press conference. Authorities have charged her with disorderly conduct by injury to a statue, damage to real property, felony participation in a riot with property damage in excess of $1,500 and felony inciting others to riot, according to jail records.

In a blog post on the WWP website, party member L.T. Pham said the group would seek to destroy other Confederate monuments.

“This is the first rope of many to pull down the pillars holding up white supremacy and capitalism,” he wrote Tuesday. “The powers that be will crumble under the power of organized people! Down with all statues of the Confederacy! Down with white supremacy!”

“Spain’s maritime rescue service says it has picked up 339 migrants from seven boats trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea from Morocco.

The rescue service says the migrants were taken by three maritime rescue ships to Spain’s southern town of Tarifa, located across the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco. The migrant boats were intercepted separately early Wednesday.

The service said one boat had 34 migrants from sub-Saharan African countries. It said the rest of the migrants were from the Maghreb countries of northwest Africa.

Tens of thousands of migrants from Africa attempt the perilous crossing to Europe in smugglers’ boats each year and thousands drown along the way.”

    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/turkey-warns-kurdish-referendum-lead-civil-war-49246807

“Turkey says Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region should reverse its decision to hold a referendum on independence, warning that the vote could lead to a civil war.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Wednesday that the referendum, slated for Sept. 25, would worsen the situation in a country “that is undergoing so many problems.”

He told state-run TRT television: “God forbid, it could lead to civil war.”

Massoud Barzani, president of Iraq’s autonomous Kurdish region, announced in June that the vote would determine whether the region would secede from Iraq.

Turkey — which has a large Kurdish population and is battling Kurdish rebels — has close ties with Iraq’s autonomous region but is strongly opposed to an independent Kurdish state.”

  17. Lebanon repeals ‘marry the rapist’ law (abcnews, Aug 16, 2017)
    http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory/jordan-lebanon-repeals-marry-rapist-law-49247214

“Lebanon’s parliament on Wednesday abolished a law that allowed rapists to avoid prison by marrying their victims.

The repeal of the law, which had been in place since the 1940s, follows years of campaigning by women’s rights advocates. Tunisia, Morocco and Egypt have canceled similar “marry the rapist” clauses over the years, and Jordan’s parliament recently repealed a similar law.

The clause remains on the books in Algeria, Iraq, Kuwait, Libya, the Palestinian territories and Syria, as well as several countries in Latin America and in the Philippines and Tajikistan, according to Human Rights Watch. Conservatives in the Middle East who support such laws argue that marriage salvages the honor of the woman and her family.

The Lebanese law stated that rape is punishable by up to seven years in prison, or more if the victim is mentally or physically disabled. Article 522 added that if the rapist marries the victim, criminal prosecution is suspended.

Human Rights Watch welcomed the move by Lebanon’s parliament but said more should be done to ensure women’s rights.

“The repeal of article 522 is an important and overdue step to protect women’s rights in Lebanon,” said Bassam Khawaja, Lebanon researcher at Human Rights Watch. “Parliament should now follow this up by passing pending legislation to end child marriage and marital rape, both of which are still legal in Lebanon.””

“Iraq is asking the U.N. Security Council for assistance in collecting evidence to prosecute extremists from the Islamic State group for possible crimes against humanity.

Iraq’s Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari said in a letter to Secretary-General Antonio Guterres circulated Wednesday that his government and the United Kingdom are working on a draft Security Council resolution seeking assistance.

It was sent more than five months after human rights lawyer Amal Clooney urged Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to send a letter so the council can set up an investigation into crimes by the extremist group. The wife of actor George Clooney said the world’s nations must not let IS “get away with genocide.”

Al-Jaafari said the crimes committed by IS make it important to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

“Turkey formally asked the German government on Wednesday to arrest and extradite a top suspect in last year’s failed coup attempt following reports suggesting that he has been spotted in Germany.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said that Turkey submitted a formal note demanding fugitive Adil Oksuz’s extradition.

Oksuz, accused of being a follower of U.S.-based cleric Fethullah Gulen, is believed to have played a key part in the failed coup. Gulen denies accusations of involvement in the attempt.

“If this person is there, we asked that he be located, taken into custody and returned to Turkey,” Cavusoglu said.

German Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer confirmed that the request had been received and would be reviewed “on the basis of the law,” but said it wasn’t clear whether Oksuz was actually in Germany…”

  20. Obama withheld information from 21 states that Russians were hacking their voting systems
By LU Staff August 16, 2017

Is that what Barack Obama meant when he boasted his would be the most transparent administration in history?

At a June 21, 2017, Senate Select Committee on Intelligence hearing, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officials first divulged that the Russians had hacked the voting systems in 21 states.

Secretaries of state — the top election officials in 40 states — told The Daily Caller News Foundation Investigative Group they were shocked to learn of this development, which occurred on Obama’s watch. State election officials still don’t know which 21 of their jurisdictions Russian hackers targeted.

“We can’t find any secretaries of state who say they have been told they are part of this list of ‘targeted’ states.” said a spokeswoman for the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), which is the oldest nonpartisan professional organization for public officials, representing top state election officials in all 50 states, plus the District of Columbia and U.S. territories.

  21. ‘F**k law’: Lincoln Memorial vandalized. Common bonds slipping away
    By J.E. Dyer August 16, 2017

If there are any wise people left among us, they will recognize that the prompt defacement of the Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. tells us how far America is along the dangerous path of spiritual lawlessness.

It didn’t take any time at all, after Monday’s toppling of a memorial to the Civil War dead in Durham, North Carolina. Before the tweets were even posted – “Today Confederate monuments, tomorrow George Washington!” – someone had spray-painted an obscenity on one of the columns at the Lincoln Memorial.

It wasn’t just any obscenity. It read “F**k law.”

    http://libertyunyielding.com/2017/08/16/fk-law-lincoln-memorial-vandalized-common-bonds-slipping-away/

    • This past weekend showed me that too many on the political right, as well as virtually all on the left, see it as more necessary to engage in quasi-religious rituals of repudiation and atonement than to apply the law as impartially and justly as possible.

      • She says it better then me but the return to tribalism and primitive rituals to placate the Gods is in our future if we don’t resist and resist now> Given what is happening I doubt civilization can be saved but if we can preserve freedom and the idea of the rule of law with everyone equal before the law we can rebuild civilization. What we are currently seeing from the left and their propaganda media (I know redundant) is the left trying to create a multi-tiered judicial system with themselves on the top being above the law and anyone they dislike on the bottom with no rights. The fight to retain our rights is going to take a long time and the rule of law is going to take many hits during the fight.

        • A dictator or a military junta can enforce the rule of law.
A society that fails as a democracy may require a different mechanism ‘to protect and defend’ the nation and ALL its people.

          • The ancient Greeks said that governments go from Democracy to Dictatorships to Monarchies to Democracies etc in a never ending cycle.Current events may be proving the right, or we may find a way to break the cycle.

Dictatorships are notorious for their corruption so don’t expect the rule of law to be enforced in any Dictatorship.

  22. The Real Race War
(Not the fake one against “white supremacy.”)
    August 16, 2017
    David Horowitz

The tragedy in Charlottesville could have been an occasion to stop and consider how the tolerance for politically correct violence and politically correct hatred is leading the nation towards civil war. Instead, the media and the political left have turned this incident into the biggest fake news story of the summer, transforming its real lessons into a morality play that justifies war against the political right, and against white people generally.

The organizers of the “Unite the Right” demonstration in Charlottesville were repellent racists. But they came to defend a historic monument honoring a complex man and cause, and not to attack it or presumably anyone else. They applied for a permit and were denied. They re-applied successfully in a petition supported by the local ACLU. If they had come to precipitate violence, why would they have gone to the tedious trouble of applying for a permit? Who knows what – if anything – would have happened if that had been the end of the story and no one had shown up to oppose them.

What “Unite the Right” actually demonstrated was that the assortment of neo-Nazis, pro-Confederates, and assorted yahoos gathered under the banner of the “Alt-Right” is actually a negligible group. This was a national show of strength that actually attracted a couple hundred people. Compare that to the tens of the thousands who can readily be marshaled by two violent groups of the left – Black Lives Matter and Antifa – and you get an idea of how marginal “white supremacists” are to America’s political and cultural life.

Yet “white supremacy” and its evils became the centerpiece of all the fake news reporting on the event, including all the ludicrous attacks on the president for not condemning enough a bogeyman the whole nation condemns, and that no one but a risible fringe supports. Talk about virtue signaling! Omitted from the media coverage were the other forces at work in precipitating the battle of Emancipation Park, specifically Black Lives Matter and Antifa, two violent left-wing groups with racial agendas who came to squelch the demonstration in defense of the monument.

Unlike the Unite the Right demonstrators, the leftist groups did not have a permit for Emancipation Park. But why should this matter, since the havoc they had previously wreaked in Ferguson, Berkeley, Sacramento, Portland and other cities, was accomplished without permits, while their criminality was presented by the media as “protests,” and their rioting went completely unpunished.

In short, there were two demonstrations in Charlottesville – a legal protest by “Unite the Right” and a protest by the vigilantes of Antifa and Black Lives Matter. Who started the fight is really immaterial. Both sides were prepared for violence because these conflicts are already a pattern of our deteriorating civic life. Once the two sides had gathered in the same place, the violence was totally predictable. Two parties, two culpabilities; but except for the initial statement of President Trump, condemning both sides, only one party has been held accountable, and that happens to be the one that was in the park legally.

What is taking place in the media accounts and political commentaries on this event is an effort by the left to turn the mayhem in Charlottesville into a template for their war against a mythical enemy – “white supremacy” – which is really a war on white people generally. The ideology that drives the left and divides our country is “identity politics” – the idea that the world consists of two groups – “people of color” who are guiltless and oppressed, and white people who are guilty and oppressors. This is the real race war. Its noxious themes inform the mindless, hysterical hatred for President Trump, and the equally mindless support for racist mobs like Black Lives Matter and Antifa. It is a war from which no good can come. But it won’t be stopped unless enough people have the courage to stand up and name it for what it is.

    • You see why I always defend this man?
He’s a complex character; he’ll always be a work in progress. Despite the kinks, that has to be better than frozen in arbitrary right/left dichotomy.

      • I defend him too, and he (like all great thinkers) is a work in progress, any human that stops learning and has their opinions frozen in one pattern is an obstacle to innovation, growth and progress.

  23. Al-Azhar Rejects Tunisia’s Call for Gender Equality in Inheritance

Cairo- The calls of Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi for gender equality in marriage and inheritance began on Tuesday to take a regional dimension after several Arab regional institutions commented on the issue.

Essebsi had called for the abolition of a circular that banned Tunisian Muslim women from taking non-Muslim husbands and to amend inheritance laws to allow equality between male and female inheritors.

In this regard, Egypt’s Al-Azhar criticized the move.

Deputy of Al-Azhar Sheikh Abbas Shuman said equality in inheritance is “unjust for women and is not in line with Islamic Sharia.”

In a statement, Sheikh Shuman said: “The call for equality in inheritance between genders is unfair because women can already inherit more than men in certain situations.”

As an example, Shuman said a mother would receive a bigger share of her deceased daughter’s legacy, as the mother receives one-third while the brother inherits only one-sixth.

He also commented on the law to allow for marriage between a non-Muslim man and a Muslim woman, saying that such a move is not in the interests of either women or men.

“Such a marriage would obstruct the stability of marriage,” the Sheikh said.

Under the current law, a Tunisian Muslim woman is banned from marrying a non-Muslim man unless he converts to Islam.

In a speech marking Women’s Day on Sunday, Essebsi said he had set up a committee to look into his proposals and present a report.

On Monday, Tunisian Islamic scholars at Diwan al-Ifta issued a statement in support to the president’s proposed changes.

The scholars said that Essebsi’s proposals “support the status of women, guarantee and activate the principle of equality between men and women in the rights and duties called for by Islam,” in addition to the international conventions ratified by Tunisia in this regard.

  24. Trump Takes Aim at the “Alt-Left”
The president won’t let the racist and violent Left off the hook for Charlottesville violence.
    August 16, 2017
    Matthew Vadum

President Trump’s politically incorrect insistence on blaming radical leftists for their rightful share of the violence on Saturday in Charlottesville is being met with predictable howls of outrage by the Left and the media.

At the protest, alleged neo-Nazi James Alex Fields, used his car to plow into a crowd of counter-protesters not far from the scheduled rally at Emancipation Park. About 20 people were injured, one of them fatally. Paralegal Heather D. Heyer, 32, was killed.

But left-wingers who descended in force on the rally site attacked people with bats and clubs, a fact President Trump stubbornly clings to despite intense pressure from the media and the rest of the Left to drop it. The people holding the “Unite the Right” rally may not all have been upstanding citizens, but holding and expressing views that are unpopular, even widely considered to be morally repugnant, is no reason to deprive those people of the right to express themselves in public.

President Trump has repeatedly denounced the right-wing extremists who organized the rally but at the same time he has stood up for their First Amendment rights. Trump stirred up a hornet’s nest during a press conference at Trump Tower in Manhattan yesterday when he was pushed by reporters to lay the blame for the violence in the Virginia college town exclusively on the “alt-right” and right-win

  25. Boko Haram Leader Releases New Video Taunting Buhari, Jonathan, Buratai

The video, delivered in Arabic, was released shortly after the terrorist organization carried out an attack in the remote Borno State community of Amarwa.

Abubakar Shekau, leader of the radical Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram, has released a new video in which he taunts President Muhammadu Buhari, former President Goodluck Jonathan, and the Chief of Army Staff, Yusuf Buratai.

The video, delivered in Arabic, was released shortly after the terrorist organization carried out an attack in the remote Borno State community of Amarwa.

President Buhari claimed early in his presidency that Boko Haram had been “technically defeated,” yet the sect has continued to launch attacks in northeastern Nigeria and the greater Lake Chad region.

The group has used suicide bombings, kidnappings, and other unconventional methods to attack innocent civilians, particularly in the states of Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe.

An estimated 20,000 people have been killed by the terrorist sect while over 2 million have been displaced.

Inciting violent riots should have consequences.

    Daniel Greenfiel

Marty Baron lives in a $1.7 million condo in Logan Circle. It’s seven blocks away from the headquarters of the Washington Post. And a 12 minute drive away from the FBI’s J Edgar Hoover Building.

    Arrest him.

His paper’s latest contribution to wrecking this country is an editorial titled “Charlottesville showed that liberalism can’t defeat white supremacy. Only direct action can.”

It concludes with, “Start throwing rocks.”

“Resistance, be it forceful or clandestine, threatened or explicit, stands as our ‘rock.’ Rocks can look like armed self-defense or nonviolent direct-action campaigns,” N.D. B. Connolly, a history professor at Johns Hopkins who specializes in racism writes.

  28. Guess Who The Charlottesville Kingpin Is
Where is the media’s reporting on a former Occupy Wall Street activist and Obama acolyte?
    August 16, 2017
    Lloyd Billingsley

In the wake of the deadly Charlottesville riot, the narrative of the left emerged loud and clear. The rioters were all Trump troops, a pack of right-wing racists on the march everywhere.

“White supremacists say they are just warming up,” wrote Tony Pugh of McClatchy News, in a piece headlined “America’s neo-Nazis are raising money, planning more rallies.” The violence at Charlottesville was only the “latest data point on a dramatically escalating trendline of hate-group activity.” As Pugh saw it:

“White supremacists picked up the pace in 2008, after the election of the first African American president, and again this year as white-power groups saw Donald Trump’s win as an opportunity to move from the fringes toward the near mainstream of political discourse.”

And so on. As Joseph Klein showed, that sort of boilerplate showed up all over the establishment media, including the Washington Post and New York Times. But things weren’t quite so simple.
